Punty's Early Mail
For all of Punty's tips for Fannie Bay, head to https://punty.ai/tips/darwin-2026-10-17
Rightio Loose Units, Fannie Bay on Good, rail True, and the track's basically saying "do you want to win, or do you want to have a story?" Cos today's got pace on tap, and when this place gets rolling, the wrong bloke parked in the breeze ends up doing extra laps in your head.
This is one of those cards where the speed map is doing the heavy lifting. You've got front types that look like they'll get every chance, plus a couple of value swings that can smoke the margins if they land in the right spot. Also, remember the rule at Fannie Bay, if you're backmarkers hoping for a miracle, you're basically waiting for a mate to text you back. Sure, it can happen, just don't count on it.
My spine for the day is simple, Race 4 Tears Are Flowing, Race 6 Biden Time, plus Race 2 Littlebourkestreet as the main gear-grinder value. When those three do their job, the rest of the card turns into bonuses, and bonuses are what legends chase.
MEET SNAPSHOT
Track: Fannie Bay, middle to sprint range 1000m to 1600m card
Rail: True
Official going: Good (expected to play on-speed, with gate position mattering)
Weather: Fine (watch for gusts 22.2km/h, could sharpen up early)
Early lane guess: QUITE FORWARD, then finish off hard in the straight.
Jockeys to follow:
Jarrod Todd: he's got the kind of rides that turn "good luck" into "hit the line"
Danielle Hirini: flies home when they give her something to work with
Leslie Tilley: can get a soft run in a hurry, especially on-speed types
Stables to respect:
Tommy Logan (8 runners): they're often live early doors, and they know how to have 'em ready
G Clarke (7 runners): steady hand, they squeeze value out of the right races
Chloe Baxter (6 runners): more than one chance to poke a hole in the favourite's party
Punty's take:
Race 1 is a slow-chaos Restricted 64, so the race shape matters. Mr Marrakech and Press Express look like they'll be in the thick of it, but if the tempo stays ugly, the back-to-midfield runners can get away with murder. That's why No.4 If I Was You is the one I want near the front end of the betting, because her place profile just screams "sneaky smoke on Good".
Race 4 is where the track might show its teeth. With a genuine pace and the favourites sitting nicely, you want the on-speed horses with clean runs. Tears Are Flowing maps like she's made for the rail, and in a Class 2 dash, that means one job: don't get shuffled and keep hitting the line.
Then Race 6 is your closer, 1600m on a slowish tempo. Biden Time is the type that can sit handy and keep taking chunks out of the leaders, while the midpack runners are the ones most likely to get tangled up. The speed advantage is the whole game here, and Biden Time has it.
What it means for you:
You'll want to be aggressive in the races that have the clearest pace advantage and a fair draw. That means Race 2 for Littlebourkestreet, Race 4 for Tears Are Flowing, and Race 6 for Biden Time. If those three line up, your afternoon becomes way more relaxing, and you start thinking about exactas and trifectas like a degenerate, which is the correct mental state.
Meanwhile, be careful buying into any "bet it because it's short" energy in the midcard. A few of these fields are tight enough that one traffic issue or one awkward landing changes the whole race. Stick to your lane, back the horses that get the run, and let the others do their "what if" thing on your couch.
PUNTY'S BIG 3 + MULTI
These are the three bets the day leans on.
1 - Tears Are Flowing (Race 4, No.1) — $2.40
Why Maps to control the tempo, and she's got that "hit the line" profile on Good.
2 - Biden Time (Race 6, No.1) — $2.35
Why On-pace 1600m type, the draw helps, and she looks built for a steady tempo grind.
3 - Littlebourkestreet (Race 2, No.7) — $2.35
Why Midfield runner with the right pace setup, she can find the gaps and run on.
Multi (all three to win): $10 × ~13.00 = ~$130.00 collect
Race 1 – Restricted 64, "Slow Tempo, Fast Judgement"
Race type: Restricted 64, 1300m
Map & tempo: Slow Pace, pace advantaged types should get an easier run, but ugly tempos can still trap backmarkers.
Punty read:
This one's got a slow tempo feel, so you're not chasing a runaway leader, you're chasing the horse that can stalk without getting stuck. Mr Marrakech is the market favourite because he's been reliable on Good and is drawn to get a nice trip. Press Express has the look of a live chance too, but if the speed stays sluggish, the real winners are the ones that can thread through late without needing a miracle.
I've got a watchful eye on No.4 If I Was You, because she brings serious place value for a race like this, where two lengths can disappear on the line when the tempo doesn't explode.
Top 3 + Roughie (pool $10.68 total stake)
1. If I Was You (No.4) — $3.30 / $1.75
Bet $10.68 Win, return $35.24
Prob 25.6% | Place: 46.1% | Value: 1.09x Steady since tip
Why Slower tempo makes this sort of runner dangerous, and she's timed for a run into the finish.
2. Mr Marrakech (No.1) — $3.50 / $1.75
Bet Tracked
Prob 19.4% | Place: 38.9% | Value: 0.88x Steady since tip
Why Only two places paid in a field this size, and skinny place divvies make savers a mug's game — this is a win-only race. Tracked, not staked.
3. Press Express (No.6) — $4.00 / place tote
Bet Tracked
Prob 18.1% | Place: 34.1% | Value: 0.94x Steady since tip
Why Genuine type, but it's one of those races where the value is in the one with the better place setup.
Roughie: Brazen Bon (No.3) — $6.50 / $2.80
Bet Tracked
Prob 11.0% | Place: 24.4% | Value: 0.93x Steady since tip
Why If the race bunches up late and the market over-focuses on the shorties, she can sneak into the finish.
Race 2 – Pointsbet 5for25 Hcp (76), "On-Pace Territory In A Hurry"
Race type: Restricted 76, 1100m
Map & tempo: Moderate Pace, with multiple on-pacers advantaged.
Punty read:
This is a sprint where the map decides the story. Littlebourkestreet is drawn out of the classic pocket, yet she's got the profile to keep finding her stride, and she's the kind of horse that punters hate until she storms past them at the line. Montjuic Magic should be right there early too, and Devils Delight is the one that can absolutely keep going if she gets a smooth trip.
Big respect for the market moves though, because Devils Delight firming is not random. That said, I want to ride the middle lane with Littlebourkestreet, because she's built to pick up pieces.
Top 3 + Roughie (pool $12.00 total stake)
1. Littlebourkestreet (No.7) — $2.45 / place tote
Bet $12.00 Win, return $29.40
Prob 25.8% | Place: 38.8% | Value: 0.82x Steady since tip
Why This is exactly the sort of 1100m where she can park just off it, then shove through when others get boxed.
2. Montjuic Magic (No.6) — $3.50 / $1.80
Bet Tracked
Prob 22.6% | Place: 32.7% | Value: 1.03x Steady since tip
Why Only two places paid in a field this size, and skinny place divvies make savers a mug's game — this is a win-only race. Tracked, not staked.
3. Devils Delight (No.2) — $5.50 / place tote
Bet Tracked
Prob 17.6% | Place: 31.7% | Value: 1.27x Steady since tip
Why If the pace holds together, she's the value upgrade that can still salute in a genuine speed race.
Roughie: Zing To Win (No.5) — $34.00 / $7.00
Bet Tracked
Prob 1.9% | Place: 4.7% | Value: 0.86x Steady since tip
Why The only way she wins is if chaos swallows the front end, and then she suddenly becomes a superhero. Fun, but risky.
Race 3 – Regency Foods (Bm54), "Speed vs Sharp Finishes"
Race type: Benchmark 54, 1100m
Map & tempo: Genuine pace, Bold Suitor and Miss Black Diamond set the pressure.
Punty read:
This is a 1100m where the first 200m can bully the rest of the race. Bold Suitor is priced short because he has the on-pace job and the race shape suits him. But don't ignore Tigers Roar and Southampton Flare, because they've got that "run on without needing the leaders to die" look.
I'm biggest on No.5 Southampton Flare for place leverage, because even when she misses the win, she's got the kind of finish that keeps her in the frame. This is where you take the safe money and let the chaos do its job around you.
Top 3 + Roughie (pool $9.00 total stake)
1. Bold Suitor (No.3) — $2.00 / $1.13
Bet $9.00 Win, return $18.00
Prob 24.3% | Place: 46.1% | Value: 0.64x Steady since tip
Why Genuine on-pace pressure and gear that looks like it can sharpen him up. Hard to leave him out.
2. Tigers Roar (No.2) — $5.50 / $1.72
Bet Tracked
Prob 16.9% | Place: 46.1% | Value: 1.23x Steady since tip
Why A real chance — but at $1.72 the place the numbers don't give me enough edge to insure with. Watching, not betting.
3. Southampton Flare (No.5) — $7.50 / $2.30
Bet Tracked
Prob 16.5% | Place: 38.9% | Value: 1.63x Steady since tip
Why She's the value on paper for place work, and if the leaders get pressured, she's a runner for the money.
Roughie: Ankle Rolex (No.1) — $11.00 / $2.60
Bet Tracked
Prob 9.2% | Place: 32.7% | Value: 1.16x Steady since tip
Why If the race opens up late, he can slot into the right lane and pinch a finish.
Race 4 – Book Christmas Party at Silks Hcp (C2), "Rail Smiles, Shorts Don't"
Race type: Class 2, 1000m
Map & tempo: Genuine Pace, Blitzwater and Mistifyzou push the issue.
Punty read:
This is a straight-up sprint where being near the speed on Good is gold. Tears Are Flowing is the clear story: drawn to run on the better side of the track, maps well, and she's already looked capable at this level. When there's genuine pace, short-priced horses that can handle it usually get to do the fun stuff, like running through the line.
Steamy Mist is the danger because she's the kind of runner that can take a run into the lane and keep coming. Meet Me At The Bar is the value play that can run a big race if the front line bunches.
Top 3 + Roughie (pool $10.50 total stake)
1. Tears Are Flowing (No.1) — $2.40 / $1.22
Bet $10.50 Win, return $25.20
Prob 29.4% | Place: 62.7% | Value: 0.93x Steady since tip
Why On-pace job with the rail help, and the sprint conditions suit her best.
2. Steamy Mist (No.2) — $3.60 / $1.52
Bet Tracked
Prob 23.3% | Place: 46.1% | Value: 1.11x Steady since tip
Why A real chance — but at $1.52 the place the numbers don't give me enough edge to insure with. Watching, not betting.
3. Meet Me At The Bar (No.4) — $7.00 / $1.95
Bet Tracked
Prob 16.1% | Place: 38.8% | Value: 1.48x Steady since tip
Why If the pace holds, she can slice in late. Big chance, just not on my win line.
Roughie: Prince Of Sparta (No.8) — $11.00 / $2.75
Bet Tracked
Prob 10.0% | Place: 34.1% | Value: 1.32x Steady since tip
Why The roughie path is simple, the speed collapses a bit and she runs into the gaps like a bloke sneaking into the pokies room.
Race 5 – Mitcon Projects Hcp (58), "Middle Distance, Slowly Getting Mean"
Race type: Restricted 58, 1600m
Map & tempo: Slow Pace, so the kick timing is everything.
Punty read:
1600m on a slow tempo is all about when you get going, not when you start. Merimbula is a natural play because she's got the back-marker engine and the class to unwind into the run. Tokyo Bandit and I'm A Dreamer sit in the same general realm, and both look capable of running on when the leaders aren't sprinting anymore.
If you're chasing value, Sass is the one that can land in the right spot and keep grinding. But for this card, I'm backing Merimbula as the base and letting the other runners do their supporting act.
Top 3 + Roughie (pool $13.00 total stake)
1. Merimbula (No.2) — $3.50 / $1.45
Bet $13.00 Win, return $45.50
Prob 24.8% | Place: 61.6% | Value: 1.16x Steady since tip
Why Slow tempo means she gets to switch off early, then attack late. That pattern is built for her.
2. Tokyo Bandit (No.1) — $4.60 / $1.60
Bet Tracked
Prob 18.8% | Place: 51.7% | Value: 1.15x Steady since tip
Why A real chance — but at $1.60 the place the numbers don't give me enough edge to insure with. Watching, not betting.
3. I'm A Dreamer (No.4) — $5.00 / $1.65
Bet Tracked
Prob 18.7% | Place: 46.1% | Value: 1.26x Steady since tip
Why She's got the class and a nice run pattern, but the value rank for the win line edges to Merimbula.
Roughie: Bryce (No.6) — $13.00 / $2.90
Bet Tracked
Prob 7.0% | Place: 29.3% | Value: 1.13x Steady since tip
Why Needs the leaders to overcook it slightly, then she claws back for a surprise top-three.
Race 6 – Book Melbourne Cup Day at DTC Hcp (58), "The 1600m Grinder Finale"
Race type: Restricted 58, 1600m
Map & tempo: Slow Pace, pace advantaged types get the best run.
Punty read:
This is the grand finale and it screams "sit close, keep punching". Biden Time is the one I want because she maps on-pace and should get a rhythm in the slow tempo. Miami Baby and Funnyifitwon are the main threats if they get room early, because at 1600m, the midpack can still cook late if they're not trapped.
New Enterprise is the value shake, and Canggu is the other one that can fill a spot if the tempo changes suddenly. But the win call is about Biden Time keeping her position without being hassled early, then letting down over the last bit.
Top 3 + Roughie (pool $13.00 total stake)
1. Biden Time (No.1) — $2.45 / $1.14
Bet $13.00 Win, return $31.85
Prob 29.3% | Place: 70.0% | Value: 0.95x Steady since tip
Why On-pace 1600m grinder, drawn to do it, and she's the type to keep going through the line.
2. Miami Baby (No.2) — $3.20 / $1.30
Bet Tracked
Prob 23.1% | Place: 70.0% | Value: 0.98x Steady since tip
Why A real chance — but at $1.30 the place the numbers don't give me enough edge to insure with. Watching, not betting.
3. Funnyifitwon (No.3) — $4.80 / $1.65
Bet Tracked
Prob 15.7% | Place: 46.1% | Value: 1.00x Steady since tip
Why Can land in the finish, but the value call for this ticket is on the top two only.
Roughie: New Enterprise (No.7) — $10.00 / $2.55
Bet Tracked
Prob 9.6% | Place: 38.8% | Value: 1.26x Steady since tip
Why If the race opens up and the late run is decisive, she's got the value route to surprise.
SEQUENCE LANES
Early Quaddie not provided for this meeting. Quaddie main and Big 6 are in the card plan via the provided ranges.
QUADDIE (R3–R6)
Smart: 3,2,5,1 / 1,2,4,8 / 2,1,4,6 / 2,1,3,7 (256 combos x $0.14 = $35.00) -- 14% flexi
This one's tight on the first leg, then opens up just enough in R4 and R5 to keep it from being a boys club, risk is moderate with 2 open legs.
Punty's take: Three-legged flow is clean, but R5 and R6 can still bite, this is entertainment plus, not a bank vault.
NUGGETS FROM THE TRACK
1 - The Good ground shortcut
Fannie Bay on Good punishes horses that need a perfect trip, but rewards the ones that can keep their rhythm. That's why the on-pace maps today are louder than the odds.
2 - Value lives in the place picture, even in win races
Even when you're backing a favourite to win, the way these fields are built means the finish often bunches. That's where the place confidence quietly pays for your soul.
3 - The sprint tax is real on a gusty day
With gusts floating around, horses that get rank in early sprint positions can lose a length before they've even done anything wrong. Clean trips are worth more than people think.
FINAL WORD FROM THE SICKO SANCTUARY
If you're gonna go broke, go broke on the horses that are in the right spot at the right time, not on vibes and wishful thinking. Lock the spine, respect the speed, and enjoy the ride. Gamble Responsibly.
