Rightio Loose Units, Wagga on a Good 4 with the rail doing a lazy +5m, temps fine, and the only drama coming from those clouds trying to look tough at dawn. This card's got that midweek sweet spot where speed can win, but the place getters are the ones that pay for your sins.
We've got a proper "pick the leaders or get chopped" vibe early, then a couple of races where the map actually matters more than people's stubbornness. If the track stays dry through the morning, the on-pacers are licking their lips. If it gets a squirt late, the finishers will get cheeky, but I'm staying planted on my lanes.
The spine I'm building this arvo is simple, clean, and hard to argue with: Race 1 is a consistent run type, Race 5 is your sprint weapon, and Race 6 is the maiden where the better horse should find the line. From there it's chaos management, not hero worship.
MEET SNAPSHOT
Track: Wagga, 1200m-2000m card
Rail: +5m 1400 to winning post, remainder true
Official going: Good 4 (expected to play Sticks-to-the-speed, with place value)
Weather: Fine, gusts 25.9km/h (watch for rain risk at 05:00 and 08:00)
Early lane guess: Tight through the straight sections, then wider out of the bends if it's holding firm
Tempo profile: Moderate to slow across the day, so you need to be in the first half or you're chasing air
Jockeys to follow:
Brodie Loy: rides 7 today, and he's been popping up everywhere in these midweek country fields
Dale Cole: rides 7 today, nice steady hands in these tempo races
Pierre Boudvillain: rides 7 today, covers plenty of ground when the gaps come
Stables to respect:
Doug Gorrel (6 runners): gets them ready and sharp for Wagga, the type that lifts on track
G J Colvin (6 runners): consistent local prep work, you see them right in the finish
Darrell Burnet (5 runners): sneaky in the market, and the horses handle the assignment
Punty's take:
Alright, here's how I'm seeing it. The meeting's got a classic Good 4 pattern, where the first third of the race is basically a job interview. In Race 1 and Race 5, I want runners that can either control position or at least sit close enough to pounce when the front skips away. Wagga likes a horse with a plan, not a horse that just "hopes".
Race 2 and Race 3 are the traps. They look open, but they're open for a reason, the tempo changes and holds up the rhythm. I'm backing the ones with the most natural go-forward style and the ones that have shown they can run their race after a messy trip. You can find winners in these, but the smarter money is usually getting the place and letting the win come to you.
Then Race 4 is the stayers heat, long enough for the right horse to keep answering, and short enough for the wrong one to fold late. Finally, the maidens in Race 6 and Race 7 are where you either trust class and preparation, or you gamble on raw ability. I'm doing the first one, then throwing a small glove at the roughie types like I always do, because I'm a sicko.
What it means for you:
For your betting game plan, be aggressive in the races where my top pick is matched to the map. That means sticking close in Race 1, getting on the proper speed set in Race 5, and having faith in the maiden quality in Race 6. Those are the "if the race runs normal, you look smart early" legs.
For everything else, protect your bankroll with place and each way. This track might be forgiving, but it's still Wagga, and the wind and rail quirks can throw a spanner. If the rain threat shows up or the day goes heavier than expected, the finishers will get a bit more credit, so keep your place coverage tight.
And yeah, if you're thinking "why not go bigger on the favourites?" because Wagga has a habit of doing a comedy sketch in the last 100m. That's why we've got a Multi spine, and a sequence plan that's entertainment-first, not mortgage-lifting.
PUNTY'S BIG 3 + MULTI
These are the three bets the day leans on.
1 - Hold This (Race 6, No.1) — $2.70
Why Maps midfield with a real chance to clunk onto the right run and keep going, plus that price is the easiest path to a clean win.
2 - Kenny's Swans (Race 1, No.3) — $3.80
Why Consistent, runs up on the speed, and should give you a place almost every time you blink.
3 - Pietro Road (Race 5, No.6) — $4.20
Why The backmarker profile is a lie here, with the tempo suiting and a late roll that can swipe the sprint.
Multi (all three to win): $10 × ~43.00 = ~$430.00 collect
Race 1 – Country Boosted Class 2, 1200m grudge match
Race type: Class 2, 1200m
Map & tempo: Moderate Pace, Dee Dee Express and Prince Of Love want the front early
Punty read:
Race 1 is a classic Wagga "don't get cute" job. Kenny's Swans sits ON-PACE and has the kind of recent run pattern that screams it won't throw its toys late. Choc Chip can be right there too, and Just Hear Me Out has that staying power over this trip, but this is the one where the speed wins more often than punters admit.
My danger is the market shape, because Choc Chip and Dee Dee Express are both short-ish and they can both take a slice out of the win if they both get brave early. That's fine, I'm backing the horse that looks the most likely to be in the right spot through the line, not just at the start.
Top 3 + Roughie ($10.50 pool)
1. Kenny's Swans (No.3) — $4.00 / $1.70
Bet $10.50 Each Way ($5.25W + $5.25P), return $21.00 (wins) / $8.92 (places)
Prob 25.5% | Place: 61.8% | Value: 1.30x Steady since tip
Why On the speed map, consistent trip history, and it should keep rolling instead of fading like a cheap motel key.

Bet Tracked
Prob 18.1% | Place: 54.4% | Value: 1.02x Steady since tip

Race 2 – Murrumbidgee Benchmark 74, chaos with a capital C
Race type: Benchmark 74, 1300m
Map & tempo: Genuine Pace, Oneforian is trying to control it
Punty read:
This one's got genuine speed, so don't fall asleep and end up doing your money math after the race. Party Boss is the obvious guide as the market favourite for a reason, but the way I see it, Serenading and Dolly are the ones that can tag into the race's middle and keep picking off tired leaders late.
I'm not trying to overcomplicate it: I'll take the win line on the best price that matches the map, and let the better value runners do their job for place purposes. If they go hard early, the back half of the field becomes a threat, but that's exactly why Serenading and Dolly are relevant.
Top 3 + Roughie ($13.00 pool)
1. Party Boss (No.10) — $4.00 / $1.75
Bet $13.00 Win, return $52.00
Prob 17.3% | Place: 54.3% | Value: 0.90x Steady since tip
Why There's enough pace to set it up, and the horse profiles to hit the line without needing miracles.

Bet Tracked
Prob 16.0% | Place: 38.8% | Value: 1.45x Steady since tip
Why A real chance — but at $2.50 the place the numbers don't give me enough edge to insure with. Watching, not betting.

Bet Tracked
Prob 10.8% | Place: 38.4% | Value: 0.70x Steady since tip

Race 3 – Tumbarumba Benchmark 58, 1600m where the run must be right
Race type: Benchmark 58, 1600m
Map & tempo: Moderate Pace, Belnera and Dunna Runna are advantaged
Punty read:
This race is a "position is everything" affair. Snap Decision and Doc March both have the right kind of shapes to be there when the tempo steadies, and Dunna Runna is the one I love for the place angle because it can track the race and pounce without needing the lead.
Glenn's Legacy is dangerous if it finds the right spot, but the main theme is simple, this is a race where you want horses that can run their own script through the middle stages, not the ones that get trapped on the wrong bit.
Top 3 + Roughie ($13.00 pool)
1. Snap Decision (No.2) — $4.20 / $1.70
Bet $13.00 Each Way ($6.50W + $6.50P), return $27.30 (wins) / $11.05 (places)
Prob 18.6% | Place: 46.3% | Value: 1.00x Steady since tip
Why Solid draw, handles the trip, and should be around the mark when others get shuffled.

Bet Tracked
Prob 15.9% | Place: 46.1% | Value: 1.32x Steady since tip

Race 4 – Heat of Wagga Stayers Series, 2000m slow burn
Race type: Benchmark 66, 2000m
Map & tempo: Slow Pace, A Boy Named Soo and Midnight Affair are favoured
Punty read:
Slow 2000s are where the good ones just keep grinding, and where the "I ran second once" horses can still run out of excuses. Vasala is the pick because it's on the ON-PACE side and should get every chance to do its best work without being stuck in traffic too deep.
Midnight Affair is the obvious alternate with barrier 1 giving it the cleanest run, and A Boy Named Soo is a live threat because it has that run style where it can take control late when everyone else is still thinking.
My one worry is the market, because the prices imply more drama than I expect in a slow tempo, so the place divvy and lane coverage matters.
Top 3 + Roughie ($10.50 pool)
1. Vasala (No.5) — $5.00 / $1.75
Bet $10.50 Win, return $52.50
Prob 19.1% | Place: 62.0% | Value: 1.23x Steady since tip
Why ON-PACE in a slow race, it can stalk the right tempo and not get swallowed late.
2. Midnight Affair (No.4) — $5.00 / $1.82
Bet Tracked
Prob 15.9% | Place: 46.1% | Value: 1.03x Steady since tip
Why A real chance — but at $1.82 the place the numbers don't give me enough edge to insure with. Watching, not betting.

Bet Tracked
Prob 14.2% | Place: 34.1% | Value: 1.47x Steady since tip

Race 5 – Fire & Security, sprint where the right turn decides it
Race type: Benchmark 66, 1000m
Map & tempo: Moderate Pace, Bombay Boom and Divazou want to lead
Punty read:
1000m at Wagga turns punters into drongos, because everyone assumes the fastest horse holds on forever. Sometimes they do, but I'm siding with Pietro Road because it's positioned to use the pace rather than fight it from too far back.
Star Of Lily is a genuine danger as the speedy type, and Bombay Boom is the market leader for a reason. But Ditterich has the right blend of form and pace pressure to be in the mix late, and the roughie lane for Marine Girl always smells like value if the favourite gets grabbed.
This race is about who gets clear air at the right moment. Pietro Road looks built for it.
Top 3 + Roughie ($10.50 pool)
1. Pietro Road (No.6) — $4.40 / $1.65
Bet $10.50 Each Way ($5.25W + $5.25P), return $23.10 (wins) / $8.66 (places)
Prob 23.2% | Place: 61.5% | Value: 1.32x Steady since tip
Why That map setup plus sprint sharpness, it's the type that hits the line where others are still negotiating.
2. Star Of Lily (No.9) — $2.70 / $1.30
Bet Tracked
Prob 22.3% | Place: 61.4% | Value: 0.78x Steady since tip

Race 6 – Maiden 1600m, Hold This is the "pay the bill" type
Race type: Maiden, 1600m
Map & tempo: Slow Pace, Fighting Fox and Oaklands Orchid are pace advantaged
Punty read:
This is the spot where class and preparation should cut through. Hold This maps midfield, and with the tempo slow, that means it can sit within range and use the longer run to finish properly. Masakari is the main challenger, and The Ultimate Star is the type that can sneak into the top end if things go messy.
I'm not asking the maiden to do miracles though. I'm backing the horse that's built to run a straight race, not the ones that need a dream run.
Top 3 + Roughie ($13.00 pool)
1. Hold This (No.1) — $2.70 / $1.35
Bet $13.00 Win, return $35.10
Prob 35.0% | Place: 70.0% | Value: 1.30x Steady since tip
Why Slow 1600, midfield trip, then it should get the full impact of a clean finish.
2. Masakari (No.2) — $3.10 / $1.45
Bet Tracked
Prob 23.5% | Place: 70.0% | Value: 1.35x Steady since tip

Race 7 – Triple M Country Boosted Maiden Plate, 1300m with a slow start plan
Race type: Maiden, 1300m
Map & tempo: Slow Pace, Eyes Right is pace advantaged
Punty read:
Maiden plates at 1300m are always a bit like a pub quiz question where the answers are hidden in plain sight. Magic Bus has the market on side and the style to run close enough to take advantage, and Divine Spark is the value wobble that can run on and make it uncomfortable late.
Central Otago and Gold Decree are both on the "place and pray" list for me. If this becomes a one-speed race, Magic Bus is the one. If it turns into a real grind, Divine Spark can claw it back.
Top 3 + Roughie ($13.00 pool)
1. Magic Bus (No.11) — $3.90 / $1.70
Bet $13.00 Win, return $50.70
Prob 16.8% | Place: 46.1% | Value: 1.44x Steady since tip
Why Best mix of market support and run style, and it should be there to pounce when gaps open.

SEQUENCE LANES
QUADDIE (R4–R7)
Smart: 5,4,3 / 6,9,2,8 / 1,2,4,11 / 11,1,5,10 (192 combos x $0.26 = $50.00) -- 26% flexi
Punty's take: Three open legs make it wide, so you're buying coverage with a bit of risk, and you're hoping at least one mid-priced winner sneaks in.
NUGGETS FROM THE TRACK
1 - The place dividends live in the ON-PACE races
Wagga on Good 4 rewards horses that sit close enough early, you can cash late without getting forced into wide trips.
2 - Market firming is doing extra work today
When horses are coming in hard like they mean it, it usually means the run is there, not just the hype.
3 - Rain risk means your "safe" plan gets sharper, not wider
If the track stays dry, speed wins. If it gets a light sting, the finishers get a bump, so the place bets become even more valuable.
FINAL WORD FROM THE SICKO SANCTUARY
Good luck legends, go in with a plan and let the horses do the talking. If one of your roughies gets involved, embrace it, then pretend you always had it. Gamble Responsibly.
