Rightio Loose Units, Ascot on a Good 4 with a bit of shower chaos, rail +4m and the track basically saying 'come on then, take your time and pick your moment'. If you like winners you can explain over a pie, you're in the right joint. If you like donating cash to the big betting void, stay tuned anyway, legends.

This card's got that classic wet-weather vibe even without it becoming a bog, so patience matters and so does where you sit in running. The speed looks like it'll be there, but the showers can make the finish extra spicy, especially for those who can hold a straight path and not get involved in a wrestling match for the last 200m.

My spine today is a big three that should all be in the finish, then I'm building the multi like we're assembling a IKEA flatpack, tight legs, minimal drama. Let's get into it before the rain decides it wants front row seats.

MEET SNAPSHOT

Track: Good 4, 1000m-1800m card
Rail: +4m Entire
Official going: Good 4 (expected to play Speed Saves + On-Pace Pressure)
Weather: Showers, gusts 14.8km/h (watch for slick decision making in the straight)
Early lane guess: Inside-to-mid on the turn, then spread out late
Tempo profile: Moderate pace, with a couple of races that look like they'll lift, stretch and test
Jockeys to follow:
Holly Nottle: lots of rides today, and she's usually right in the thick of it when the map helps
Holly Watson: clean style up front and can hold the line when the track is a bit sticky
Lucy F Fiore: keeps finding the right spots in running, especially when the field spaces out
Stables to respect:
A G Durrant (7 runners): consistent, and they bring them to the track ready
D L Morton (7 runners): patient placings, then the odd weapon pops late
J N Pateman (6 runners): strong strike patterns, especially when they can land somewhere handy early

Punty's take:

Ascot is playing fair, but it's playing slippery fair. With the rail +4m entire, you can feel the inside saving ground, yet the late rain and gusts will make the straight a proper judge. If you're locked on the fence and trapped behind traffic, you might as well be watching the race through a letterbox.

The way I'm reading it, there are two lanes that keep showing up today, leaders who can kick through clean on the good ground, and those who can stalk without doing too much work. In a few races there's a clear 'you have to be there' vibe, then in others the value is in taking a horse that's been getting shuffled out of the story and gets a better run at the right time.

Now the best part, the Big 3 + Multi spine. Race 6 is where speed looks like it wins and the market's got the right sort of respect. Race 4 has the open-grass momentum type, and Race 8 is your classic 'good horse with the right run plan' job. Everything else is about price, pace, and not overcooking your ticket like a ratbag in a hurry.

What it means for you:

Aggressive where the tempo is clear, because on a Good 4 with showers, the ones who get momentum early often get the last say. That's why Race 6 and Race 8 are in the spine, those are the races where I expect straightening up to decide the narrative.

For the rest of the card, I'm leaning into your safer plays first, then sprinkling in the roughie when the racing path makes sense. If a horse maps to a handy run and the market is supporting it, I'll back the Top 3. If there's a horse with excuses that can bounce, that's your roughie moment.

Sequence-wise, the quaddie and big lanes are there for fun and payout potential, but I'm not trying to turn this into a lottery. The sensible way today is to keep the tight legs tight and let one or two races do the heavy lifting. You'll feel better placing bets when you know what you're rooting for.

PUNTY'S BIG 3 + MULTI

These are the three bets the day leans on.

1 - Swift Ruler (Race 6, No.4) — $1.88
Why Loves getting involved early, and with this type of field the class of the early run can carry them a long way.
2 - Roger (Race 4, No.2) — $3.10
Why Straightforward win profile, barrier helps, and he's the kind that turns races into work for everyone else.
3 - Hot And High (Race 8, No.6) — $2.14
Why The on-pace runner with the finish, and the showers just keep the race honest rather than making it random.

Multi (all three to win): $10 × ~12.47 = ~$124.72 collect

Race 1 – TABtouch - Westspeed Platinum (Rst 0 Met Win-LY)

Race type: Rst 0 Met Win-LY, 1600m
Map & tempo: Moderate Pace, My Jimmy backmarker with an 'if you give me room I sprint' profile

Punty read:

Race 1 looks like a two-horse sort of story with a third that can steal it if the others tangle. On paper, I'm Nipote is the main danger type, because he can sit midfield and roll forward when the lane opens. But the whole point of today's rail +4m is that straight decisions matter, and the backmarkers who can produce a clean final burst have a habit of grinding out results.

My Jimmy at backmarker is the one I'm comfortable with trusting through a muddle, especially with his last-start excuse being interference and being held up. If he gets clear air at the right time, he's got the finish to hit the line. Sandfire Rose and Boussac both look like they can be dangerous if pace cranks, but I don't want to lead with them unless the track gives them the run they're hunting.

Top 3 + Roughie ($6.50 pool)

1. My Jimmy (No.1) — $3.10 / $1.32
Bet $6.50 Each Way ($3.25W + $3.25P), return $10.08 (wins) / $4.29 (places)
Prob 31.4% | Place: 70.0% | Value: 1.21x Steady since tip
Why Backmarker with real finish juice, and his excuse was legit, held up, not beaten on the spot. On top of that, the class is the right tier and the market has him on-side.
2. I'm Nipote (No.3) — $2.35 / $1.17
Bet Tracked
Prob 29.5% | Place: 58.9% | Value: 0.86x Steady since tip
Why The top pick's each-way already covers the place angle here — doubling up is paying twice for the same insurance. Tracked instead.
3. Sandfire Rose (No.4) — $8.40 / $2.30
Bet Tracked
Prob 9.4% | Place: 34.5% | Value: 0.98x Steady since tip
Why On-pace threat, but the win path feels narrower unless the race really sets up for her.
Roughie: Boussac (No.5) — $9.50 / $2.50
Bet Tracked
Prob 9.0% | Place: 33.2% | Value: 1.04x Steady since tip

Race 2 – Reliable Asset Maintenance (Bm72+)

Race type: BenchMark 72+, 1600m
Map & tempo: Genuine Pace, Exceltrain likely to go forward, Silent Diva stalking back

Punty read:

This is a genuine pace scenario, which usually turns it into a position race first and a kicking contest second. Silent Diva looks the easiest "place the foot, then ask for more" type, with the market putting her at a nice price that says she's expected to be around the mark. Silver Eye is the other one who can run into a frame because she's durable, even if she's not always the loudest early.

The danger is Arcadia Knight if she gets into her rhythm and the leaders soften. I still think the race shape keeps the places valuable, because with only seven runners and limited room for chaos, the on-pace types get fewer excuses.

Top 3 + Roughie ($11.64 pool)

1. Silent Diva (No.5) — $2.90 / $1.62
Bet $11.64 Win, return $33.76
Prob 29.0% | Place: 46.1% | Value: 1.01x Steady since tip
Why Loves to be involved, and she's got the class to keep finding the line when tempo's honest. If the leaders go hard, she's the sort that still stays in it.
2. Silver Eye (No.1) — $5.00 / $2.25
Bet Tracked
Prob 19.0% | Place: 45.4% | Value: 1.16x Steady since tip
Why Only two places paid in a field this size, and skinny place divvies make savers a mug's game — this is a win-only race. Tracked, not staked.
3. Arcadia Knight (No.3) — $5.70 / $2.50
Bet Tracked
Prob 15.9% | Place: 29.3% | Value: 1.08x Steady since tip
Why She gets a crack at a more suitable run, and with the excuses included, she can bounce into the finish.
Roughie: Oly's Choice (No.2) — $9.00 / $3.30
Bet Tracked
Prob 7.9% | Place: 22.5% | Value: 0.82x Steady since tip

Race 3 – Glenroy Chaff (Rest 1 Metro Win)

Race type: Rest 1 Metro Win, 1000m
Map & tempo: Moderate pace, leaders engaged, short sprint where the first kick matters

Punty read:

1000m on a Good 4 with showers is basically a coin flip with excellent manners. Jedi Dream is drawn inside, which is everything in a sprint, because it removes one big decision. Kraken Time is the grinder who can still be close if he handles the new gear look, and Let's Talk is the one I like for value in the top end of the market because his rhythm style suits this sort of run.

Hezangelic is a fair play too, but the most reliable picture is that this race stays compact, and the first two lanes out of the pack determine the last two hundred. If you overthink it, you'll get done. If you trust the run plan, you'll be right there.

Top 3 + Roughie ($8.50 pool)

1. Jedi Dream (No.7) — $2.65 / $1.25
Bet $8.50 Win, return $22.52
Prob 25.1% | Place: 70.0% | Value: 0.83x Steady since tip
Why Barrier 1 helps him avoid traffic headaches, and his tactical speed in a short race is exactly what you want. Even if it turns into a sprinting duel, he's in the duel.
2. Kraken Time (No.2) — $3.10 / $1.35
Bet Tracked
Prob 23.3% | Place: 54.3% | Value: 0.90x Steady since tip
Why A real chance — but at $1.35 the place the numbers don't give me enough edge to insure with. Watching, not betting.
3. Let's Talk (No.3) — $7.00 / $2.05
Bet Tracked
Prob 17.8% | Place: 46.1% | Value: 1.55x Steady since tip
Why This is the value angle, his recent wins and his leader-style map have him ready to pounce.
Roughie: Perfect Chant (No.4) — $9.00 / $2.45
Bet Tracked
Prob 9.9% | Place: 34.1% | Value: 1.11x Steady since tip
Why On-pace look and good sprint profile, roughie path is he grabs the rail and holds on longer than the odds expect.

Race 4 – Bisley Workwear Plate (Open)

Race type: Open, 1400m
Map & tempo: Moderate pace, Raw Umber on pace pressure, Roger the map-hardened favourite

Punty read:

Race 4 is where you can make money if you keep it simple. Roger has the right blend of early position and winning gear, and the speed is there enough that he won't need a miracle at the bend. The big danger is that this is open class, so the upset brigade can show up if the front runner burns too bright.

Rogue Ruler is your first real price threat with early pace, and Flying In The Wind is the sort that can run into the trifecta if the leaders get a bit too brave. Treasured Legacy might grab a placing if the race turns into a mid-race grind and he gets the right run.

Top 3 + Roughie ($13.00 pool)

1. Roger (No.2) — $3.10 / $1.40
Bet $13.00 Win, return $40.30
Prob 34.5% | Place: 70.0% | Value: 1.35x Steady since tip
Why The map and the form line up, and this is the kind of open 1400 where a horse that can sit the right way does the damage. He's not searching for luck, he's taking control.
2. Rogue Ruler (No.4) — $7.00 / $2.00
Bet Tracked
Prob 14.7% | Place: 46.1% | Value: 1.29x Steady since tip
Why A real chance — but at $2.00 the place the numbers don't give me enough edge to insure with. Watching, not betting.
3. Flying In The Wind (No.10) — $6.00 / $2.00
Bet Tracked
Prob 13.9% | Place: 46.1% | Value: 1.05x Steady since tip
Why If the tempo is right, he can swoop through the gaps late, and his recent form suggests he's live.
Roughie: Marcos (No.1) — $9.50 / $2.60
Bet Tracked
Prob 8.1% | Place: 32.7% | Value: 0.97x Steady since tip

Race 5 – C J Byfield 80th (Rst 0 Met Win-LY)

Race type: Rst 0 Met Win-LY, 1200m
Map & tempo: Genuine Pace, Noahquintilly leads, Quokka Rocka and Linchpin press

Punty read:

This is a classic "everyone wants the front" 1200 where the inside decisions can win races. Noahquintilly is the leader, but I'm not convinced she's the best bet on pure value because the price says "pretty short for a rest-of-the-field kind of day".

Quokka Rocka is the one I like because he's got the on-pace style and he fits the sprint grind, and the market is treating him with enough respect to suggest he can run a serious race. Cable Rock looks like he can lift late, and Strideaway is a sneaky runner if the leaders soften early.

Top 3 + Roughie ($10.00 pool)

1. Quokka Rocka (No.7) — $5.50 / $2.15
Bet $10.00 Each Way ($5.00W + $5.00P), return $27.50 (wins) / $10.75 (places)
Prob 18.5% | Place: 46.1% | Value: 1.30x Steady since tip
Why He's the value on the right sort of run, on-pace enough to be in it and quick enough to keep going through the line. If the race stays competitive, he's right there.
2. Linchpin (No.3) — $4.20 / $1.80
Bet Tracked
Prob 15.5% | Place: 46.1% | Value: 0.83x Steady since tip
Why The top pick's each-way already covers the place angle here — doubling up is paying twice for the same insurance. Tracked instead.
3. Delzee (No.6) — $5.50 / $2.15
Bet Tracked
Prob 13.6% | Place: 46.1% | Value: 0.96x Steady since tip
Why On-pace and capable, but you need a bit of luck in a tight 1200 field.
Roughie: Cable Rock (No.5) — $10.00 / $3.10
Bet Tracked
Prob 9.6% | Place: 32.7% | Value: 1.17x Steady since tip
Why If something tires early, he's got the finish to grab a lane and keep going.

Race 6 – Happy 90th Birthday Brian Casey (Bm66+)

Race type: BenchMark 66+, 1800m
Map & tempo: Moderate pace, Swift Ruler backmarker option, I Love Ya Money on-pace, Wild Things mid-field

Punty read:

At 1800m the race becomes about who can keep their engine humming, and Swift Ruler's profile suits a long straight approach. He's not a true front-runner type today, but at this track and distance, that can be a feature. If he's sitting behind a couple and gets to the right corner, he can run through the line.

I Love Ya Money is the obvious on-pace threat with the best chance to set the tempo. Wild Things is the value play type, and if the race turns into a mid-race grind, she can run into the placings with the right lane.

Top 3 + Roughie ($10.50 pool)

1. Swift Ruler (No.4) — $1.95 / $1.10
Bet $10.50 Win, return $20.47
Prob 35.2% | Place: 70.0% | Value: 0.87x Steady since tip
Why The price is short for a reason, and his ability to finish from the back end on this Good 4 is what wins these 1800s when the pace is moderate.
2. I Love Ya Money (No.8) — $4.20 / $1.57
Bet Tracked
Prob 22.4% | Place: 61.3% | Value: 1.15x Steady since tip
Why A real chance — but at $1.57 the place the numbers don't give me enough edge to insure with. Watching, not betting.
3. Wild Things (No.6) — $8.40 / $2.25
Bet Tracked
Prob 10.5% | Place: 38.9% | Value: 1.10x Steady since tip
Why If the race doesn't go hard early, she gets her chance to unwind late.
Roughie: I Dreamed A Dream (No.3) — $11.00 / $2.60
Bet Tracked
Prob 8.9% | Place: 34.1% | Value: 1.20x Steady since tip

Race 7 – PPS Water Group (Rest 1 Metro Win)

Race type: Rest 1 Metro Win, 1400m
Map & tempo: Moderate pace, Western Miss on pace with Desert Waves applying pressure

Punty read:

This race is set up for a proper contest up front. Western Miss is the on-pace horse who gets her chance to dictate the tempo, and at barrier 9 she's not trapped, she's just got to find a clean spot and hit the straight with options.

Desert Waves is the value that's been doing the right work and gets to run into it today, and I'm Crafty is the backmarker who can run on if the leaders go a touch too hard. Ruthless Angel is the other who looks like she can sneak into a place if the field stretches.

Top 3 + Roughie ($13.00 pool)

1. Western Miss (No.7) — $2.25 / $1.25
Bet $13.00 Win, return $29.25
Prob 30.0% | Place: 70.0% | Value: 0.86x Steady since tip
Why The pace helps, the recent run line says she's consistent, and this is the sort of race where getting to the front cleanly matters more than flash finishers.
2. Desert Waves (No.4) — $5.00 / $1.90
Bet Tracked
Prob 20.3% | Place: 58.2% | Value: 1.28x Steady since tip

Prob 11.8% | Place: 38.9% | Value: 1.12x Steady since tip

Roughie: Ruthless Angel (No.13) — $9.00 / $2.85
Bet Tracked
Prob 10.1% | Place: 38.9% | Value: 1.16x Steady since tip
Why The bounce-back angle is live, and if the leaders wobble, she can grab a slice of the trifecta pie.

Race 8 – Swan Draught - R.S. Crawford Stakes (Open)

Race type: Open, 1200m
Map & tempo: Moderate pace, Hot And High and Cessation on-pace bullets, Playin'it Sweet pressure nearby

Punty read:

Now this is the kind of open 1200 where the best on-pace horse can make the race look simple. Hot And High is ticking boxes across the board, and with on-pace map help, she's built to be there when the race straightens. Cessation is next best, and if the pace splits properly, he can hang on for a place or even force a win scenario.

The value runner is Playin'it Sweet. If she brings the right rhythm and doesn't get stymied at the wrong moment, she's the one that can show up for you in the exacta or trifecta and make you feel like a genius for five minutes.

Top 3 + Roughie ($14.00 pool)

1. Hot And High (No.6) — $2.14 / $1.13
Bet $14.00 Win, return $29.96
Prob 33.6% | Place: 70.0% | Value: 0.89x Steady since tip
Why On the right part of the track, on pace with a finish, and the race shape screams 'be there at the turn, mate'.
2. Cessation (No.4) — $3.00 / $1.30

Bet Tracked
Prob 16.8% | Place: 54.1% | Value: 1.33x Steady since tip

Bet Tracked
Prob 9.2% | Place: 38.8% | Value: 1.09x Steady since tip
Why If the race pace crimps up, he can find the lane and run into the money from the right spot.

Race 9 – Senturf - Eurythmic Stakes (Open)

Race type: Open, 1400m
Map & tempo: Moderate pace, King Of Light Midfield, Bonjoy closer midfield, Western Empire more of a working role

Punty read:

Open 1400, and this is where horses that can keep positioning win. King Of Light is the main one to trust, because his profile screams "can sit in the right gear and keep going". Bonjoy is the value runner because he's got the class plus a draw that can get him into the run without too much trouble.

Western Empire is also in the mix, and Watch Me Rock is a danger if he gets an easy run early, because he can stay on. But if the tempo isn't silly, King Of Light's style looks like it has the edge.

Top 3 + Roughie ($10.00 pool)

1. King Of Light (No.3) — $2.20 / $1.17
Bet $10.00 Win, return $22.00
Prob 29.2% | Place: 58.7% | Value: 0.81x Steady since tip
Why Consistent build for a middle-distance race, and if he gets into the right part of the track early, he's hard to run down late.

Prob 16.7% | Place: 46.1% | Value: 1.55x Steady since tip

Prob 8.8% | Place: 32.7% | Value: 1.28x Steady since tip

Race 10 – Happy 80th Birthday Bernie Ryan (Bm66+)

Race type: BenchMark 66+, 1200m
Map & tempo: Moderate pace, Ourgirlcanrun and Hard Solo set up the tempo, Rock Fest midpack chances

Punty read:

Race 10 is where short-course tactics go from "important" to "everything". Ourgirlcanrun is the leader type and she's got the market respect, but I'm not ignoring Rock Fest because he's got the ability to feature without needing to lead, which matters a lot when the rail is helping the inside and the outside paths get crowded.

Timeless Gem and Hurricane Harley are the price threats if the leaders soften and the race turns into a sprint to the line. But Rock Fest is the bet I like most because he's the one who can hit the line strong if the speed stays honest.

Top 3 + Roughie ($10.50 pool)

1. Rock Fest (No.4) — $4.40 / $1.80
Bet $10.50 Each Way ($5.25W + $5.25P), return $23.10 (wins) / $9.45 (places)
Prob 23.0% | Place: 46.1% | Value: 1.34x Steady since tip

SEQUENCE LANES

EARLY QUADDIE (R3–R6)

Smart: 7,2,3,4 / 2,10,4,8,1 / 3,7,6 / 4,8,6,3 (240 combos x $0.15 = $35.00) -- 15% flexi
Punty's take: R3 and R6 are tighter to keep this alive, R4 and R5 are the open legs where the quaddie either pays you back or teaches you humility.

QUADDIE (R7–R10)

Smart: 7,4,13,2 / 6,4,5,3 / 3,9,1,5 / 10,4,5,2 (256 combos x $0.14 = $35.00) -- 14% flexi
Punty's take: Late card pressure makes this tricky, R10 is the narrow leg but R9 is a classic trap if you go too short.

BIG 6 (R5–R10)

Smart: 3,7,6,5 / 4,8,6,3 / 7,4,13,2 / 6,4,5,3 / 3,9,1,5 / 10,4,5,2 (4096 combos x $0.00122 = $5.00) -- 0.12% flexi
Punty's take: This is entertainment more than a value play, six legs means one miss wrecks the vibe, so keep it as a punts-for-fun sweep.

NUGGETS FROM THE TRACK

1 - Good 4 showers, but rail +4 is doing the heavy lifting
When the rail is out, straight-running position is basically free money, horses that get stuck behind the wrong peel are the ones paying tuition.

2 - Watch how the on-pace runners survive pressure in open races
On this sort of Good 4, the on-pace horses don't get steamrolled as often as people think, especially at 1200m where the race goes from "pace" to "fight" quickly.

3 - Gear changes are your chaos seasoning, especially in sprints
Tongue tie or new headgear can sharpen a sprint horse into the pocket, and that's exactly the sort of small edge that flips a finish when the gaps are tight.

FINAL WORD FROM THE SICKO SANCTUARY

If you back the spine and respect the pace, today's not a guessing day, it's a "watch the race unfold" day. Now go place your bets, and if you get a roughie home, swear quietly like a professional. Gamble Responsibly.
