Rightio Loose Units, Ellerslie on a Soft 6 with the wind doing cartwheels, and the day looks like it's built for runners who can still have a crack late. It's one of those meetings where the early speed does its job, the backmarkers get a sniff, and if you've got your money in the right spot early, you get to yell at the TV like it owes you rent. Let's go.

MEET SNAPSHOT

Track: Ellerslie, 1000-2100m card
Rail: Out 5.5m
Official going: Soft 6 (expected to play Power to the finish)
Weather: Fine (watch for gusts, they can shove runners wider than you expect)
Early lane guess: Fence-to-middle, then straightening later
Tempo profile: Moderate pace, with races shaping into either a stalk and sprint or a wet-track fade
Jockeys to follow:
Craig Grylls: Busy day and he's on the right sort of runners early, likes to keep momentum going.
George Rooke: Sneaky value factor, often not the flashiest but gets them home.
Masahiro Hashizume: You want him in your exotic combos when the market is twitchy.
Stables to respect:
Mark Walker & Sam Bergerson (8 runners): If they fire, it's usually not subtle.
S B Marsh (8 runners): Consistent program, tends to have one ready even when the odds look ordinary.
B Wallace & G Cooksley (5 runners): Watch their horses for late-run patterns, especially on Soft.

Punty's take:

Ellerslie Soft 6 with the rail out 5.5m means you can get away with being a touch closer early, then you're judged on who can keep rolling when the track bites. The speed is there, but it's not a straight "front-runner party", it's more like a slow cooker, by the time they hit the run-in, everyone's asking who still has petrol in the tank.

Race 1 is your opener puzzle, and I'm locking into Convinced because the map suits, the market knows he's live, and Soft track form style helps. Race 6 is the big stakes toss-up, Levakia has the profile to run a big one, and then Race 7 is a proper open sprint where Platinum Attack is the obvious fulcrum, but I still want one value-swinger hanging off him.

If you're the type who waits for the "proper" chance later in the program, yeah, fair enough, but these Soft 6 days can punish the backseat gamblers. Get your spine in early, then let the lanes do the heavy lifting.

What it means for you:

My plan is simple: anchor the day with three legs that map to a race-winning scenario, then sprinkle one roughie where the track conditions can turn a "maybe" into a "how the hell did that happen". I'm leaning into win bets only where the pace, draw, and fitness line up clean.

For the rest, I'm treating each race like a mini showdown: who gets first crack at the finish, who gets held up, and who gets the run of the track. If a horse looks like it can be on pace without spending itself, it's your place bet territory. If it's getting dragged wide because it has to, protect yourself, especially in the chaos races.

PUNTY'S BIG 3 + MULTI

These are the three bets the day leans on.

1 - Convinced (Race 1, No.7) — $3.30
Why Maps to get a proper run and should be hard to run down on Soft 6.
2 - Levakia (Race 6, No.2) — $3.10
Why Right sort of race shape for a genuine grinder, and the class fits Open company.
3 - Platinum Attack (Race 7, No.1) — $3.00
Why Strong profile, and he can be in the right part of the field early without getting pressured into fading.

Multi (all three to win): $10 × ~30.69 = ~$306.90 collect

Race 1 – Ellerslie 1100m Benchmark 65, Speedy Soup

Race type: Benchmark 65, 1100m
Map & tempo: Moderate Pace, ON-PACE pressure expected

Punty read:

This is a race where the lane matters and Soft 6 makes every effort count. Los Santos and Navy Ensign both look like they're in the machinery early, but Convinced has the better "race within the race" vibe, settled where he can attack without doing too much. The market is onto it because Convinced is shortening, and for me that's a green light.
Rising Wind is the sort of roughie that can get a cheap trip, but Soft 6 usually asks for more than just luck, it asks for stamina through the mud.

Top 3 + Roughie ($15.00 pool)

1. Convinced (No.7) — $3.50 / $1.55
Bet $15.00 Win, return $52.50
Prob 28.9% | Place: 54.3% | Value: 1.33x Steady since tip
Why He's set up to get into the race early and keep finding, Soft track rewards that kind of persistence.

2. Navy Ensign (No.2) — $3.80 / $1.65
Bet Tracked
Prob 20.7% | Place: 51.7% | Value: 1.03x Steady since tip
Why A real chance — but at $1.65 the place the numbers don't give me enough edge to insure with. Watching, not betting.

3. Centurial (No.3) — $3.80 / $1.65
Bet Tracked
Prob 15.4% | Place: 46.1% | Value: 0.77x Steady since tip
Why He can place, but I want more win upside for a bet at $3.80 in a Soft sprint.

Roughie: Wailea (No.8) — $10.00 / $2.85
Bet Tracked
Prob 7.2% | Place: 25.7% | Value: 0.95x Steady since tip
Why If the leaders wobble and he gets a clear, he can sneak into the trifecta, otherwise it's a long hard ask from the front.

Race 2 – Race Images Maiden 1200m, Beginners With Teeth

Race type: Maiden, 1200m
Map & tempo: Genuine Pace, leaders involved early

Punty read:

Hervey Bay has the look of a horse that can keep showing up, that kind that doesn't need to win first time, just needs to find the right run. Be Water can go forward and make it hard, but in a maiden on Soft, I love the steady type who can handle traffic without going full send.
Rossella is the other one with a "could be anything" ceiling, but I'm going with Hervey Bay to put his head in front first.

Top 3 + Roughie ($12.00 pool)

1. Hervey Bay (No.1) — $2.90 / $1.45
Bet $12.00 Win, return $34.80
Prob 25.3% | Place: 46.1% | Value: 1.25x Steady since tip
Why The numbers and the pattern say "do not overthink it", he's got enough early to be in it and the run home on Soft should suit.

2. Rossella (No.13) — $5.50 / $2.15
Bet Tracked
Prob 15.0% | Place: 38.9% | Value: 1.27x Steady since tip
Why A real chance — but at $2.15 the place the numbers don't give me enough edge to insure with. Watching, not betting.

3. Be Water (No.2) — $9.50 / $3.10
Bet Tracked
Prob 11.2% | Place: 24.1% | Value: 1.43x Steady since tip
Why Big value if it turns into a scramble, but I'm not forcing it into the stake.

Roughie: Water Catcher (No.5) — $11.00 / $3.50
Bet Tracked
Prob 8.8% | Place: 28.7% | Value: 1.05x Steady since tip
Why Needs the chaos to really land, otherwise he's more "place chance" than "win story".

Race 3 – Yourride Maiden 1400m, Slow Burn Fireworks

Race type: Maiden, 1400m
Map & tempo: Slow Pace, expect strung-out turning for home

Punty read:

This is one of those races where the leaders can look fine, then you realise everyone else has saved something for the last 300. Crimson Sky has the right kind of profile to mow through traffic late, and on Soft, that finishing kick is everything.
Kumara Straight is the danger if the tempo stays slow, and Showgirl is the kind of fringe runner that can pop up if they get a clear run.

Top 3 + Roughie ($7.00 pool)

1. Crimson Sky (No.3) — $5.00 / $2.00
Bet $7.00 Each Way ($3.50W + $3.50P), return $17.50 (wins) / $7.00 (places)
Prob 20.1% | Place: 45.0% | Value: 1.15x Steady since tip
Why He's been getting caught in the wrong moment, today the setup looks better, and Soft 6 helps them sustain.

2. Kumara Straight (No.12) — $4.50 / $1.90
Bet Tracked
Prob 11.9% | Place: 32.7% | Value: 0.76x Steady since tip
Why The top pick's each-way already covers the place angle here — doubling up is paying twice for the same insurance. Tracked instead.

3. Showgirl (No.15) — $6.50 / $2.40
Bet Tracked
Prob 10.2% | Place: 32.7% | Value: 0.94x Steady since tip
Why Nice supporting role, but today I want my money on the one with the cleaner finish picture.

Roughie: Proteus (No.10) — $10.00 / $3.30
Bet Tracked
Prob 7.1% | Place: 24.1% | Value: 1.00x Steady since tip
Why If the slow tempo causes a sprint lane to appear, he's the bloke who can swoop through gaps.

Race 4 – Windsor Park Stud Bm75 2100m, Staying Power vs Soft Grease

Race type: Benchmark 75, 2100m
Map & tempo: Genuine Pace, High Country up top

Punty read:

At 2100m on Soft, the winners are the ones who can keep the rhythm and not get bogged doing extra work. I Park looks like the sort to travel and put in the grind, and the barrier plus his profile means he can sit in the right spot and then kick when the others start to lose grip.
Born To Be Royal is the other main threat, Sweet Ice is live too, but I want this one to be controlled, and I Park does that job.

Top 3 + Roughie ($4.50 pool)

1. I Park (No.2) — $4.20 / $1.70
Bet $4.50 Win, return $18.90
Prob 21.4% | Place: 46.1% | Value: 1.23x Steady since tip
Why He maps for the trip and the Soft condition suits his steady build, he should be hitting the line strong.

2. Born To Be Royal (No.7) — $4.20 / $1.72
Bet Tracked
Prob 20.1% | Place: 39.2% | Value: 1.15x Steady since tip
Why A real chance — but at $1.72 the place the numbers don't give me enough edge to insure with. Watching, not betting.

3. Sweet Ice (No.6) — $4.60 / $1.75
Bet Tracked
Prob 15.8% | Place: 46.1% | Value: 0.96x Steady since tip
Why He can place, but I want a touch more win edge.

Roughie: High Country (No.1) — $9.00 / $2.70
Bet Tracked
Prob 7.6% | Place: 24.4% | Value: 0.88x Steady since tip
Why Runners go a bit one-paced on Soft 6 when they lead too hard, so he needs everything to go his way.

Race 5 – NZB Ready To Run Sale Trainers Series Bm65 1400m, First Turn Romance

Race type: Benchmark 65, 1400m
Map & tempo: Genuine Pace, Toruk Makto is leading type

Punty read:

This one is about balance, you've got pace on but Soft track means you can't rely on just speed. Waimea Bay looks like the class of the field at this level, and he should enjoy getting the right position without being forced to do sprint heroics.
Flashback is a straight-up value swing and Espadas has the look of a horse who can run a big "money after the line" race if the field stretches.

Top 3 + Roughie ($10.00 pool)

1. Waimea Bay (No.8) — $6.50 / $2.40
Bet $10.00 Each Way ($5.00W + $5.00P), return $32.50 (wins) / $12.00 (places)
Prob 16.0% | Place: 38.9% | Value: 1.43x Steady since tip
Why He's got the right profile for Soft 6, plus the lane should open in time for a real finishing run.

2. Flashback (No.5) — $4.20 / $1.80
Bet Tracked
Prob 13.0% | Place: 38.8% | Value: 0.75x Steady since tip
Why The top pick's each-way already covers the place angle here — doubling up is paying twice for the same insurance. Tracked instead.

3. Espadas (No.1) — $8.50 / $2.75
Bet Tracked
Prob 10.7% | Place: 32.7% | Value: 1.24x Steady since tip
Why Strong enough for exotics, just not today's main wedge.

Roughie: Wise Choice (No.3) — $10.00 / $3.10
Bet Tracked
Prob 9.4% | Place: 28.7% | Value: 1.22x Steady since tip
Why If the pace gets a bit messy and the field fans, he can lift at the right time.

Race 6 – Staphanos Classic Open 2100m, The Long-Form Boss Fight

Race type: Open, 2100m
Map & tempo: Genuine Pace, Khan Hunter on the go

Punty read:

Open 2100m on Soft is where the best horses separate from the good ones. Levakia has the kind of race day presence that says, "I'll be there late", and at this distance you don't need to win early, you need to be ready at the right time.
Proboy is the value swing if the race gets tactical, Boxmoss can surprise if he lands the right spot, and Just Charlie is one for the placers if the speed collapses.

Top 3 + Roughie ($11.00 pool)

1. Levakia (No.2) — $3.10 / $1.52
Bet $11.00 Win, return $34.10
Prob 23.4% | Place: 46.1% | Value: 1.00x Steady since tip
Why The class plus the Soft track stamina combo. He's built to pick up the pieces when others tire.

2. Boxmoss (No.4) — $4.80 / $1.95
Bet Tracked
Prob 12.2% | Place: 32.7% | Value: 0.81x Steady since tip
Why A real chance — but at $1.95 the place the numbers don't give me enough edge to insure with. Watching, not betting.

3. Proboy (No.12) — $7.50 / $2.65
Bet Tracked
Prob 11.3% | Place: 29.3% | Value: 1.17x Steady since tip
Why Value might be there, but I'm keeping this race simpler.

Roughie: Just Charlie (No.8) — $11.00 / $3.30
Bet Tracked
Prob 6.5% | Place: 24.1% | Value: 0.92x Steady since tip
Why If he's in the right rhythm coming off the turn, he can run into the money hard.

Race 7 – Sweynesse Stakes Open 1215m, Sprint Like a Thriller

Race type: Open, 1215m
Map & tempo: Genuine Pace, Special Sakura is leading type

Punty read:

This is a short, sharp race, and Soft track at 1215m can turn it into a momentum contest. Platinum Attack is the one I trust to handle the pressure without getting flustered, and he should give the best "return to your seat" run.
Chatelle Rose is the obvious place-and-beyond danger, Jaarffi has an upset ceiling, and Perfect Chaos is the kind of rough value that can land if the race opens up.

Top 3 + Roughie ($11.50 pool)

1. Platinum Attack (No.1) — $3.00 / $1.50
Bet $11.50 Win, return $34.50
Prob 22.8% | Place: 46.1% | Value: 0.92x Steady since tip
Why He's the right sort for this distance, and on Soft he still looks like he can motor to the line.

2. Chatelle Rose (No.9) — $6.00 / $2.25
Bet Tracked
Prob 13.9% | Place: 38.8% | Value: 1.13x Steady since tip
Why A real chance — but at $2.25 the place the numbers don't give me enough edge to insure with. Watching, not betting.

3. Special Sakura (No.6) — $4.20 / $1.75
Bet Tracked
Prob 11.9% | Place: 38.4% | Value: 0.67x Steady since tip
Why Leading types can get pinned in Soft if there's enough pressure, so I'm not taking that risk.

Roughie: Perfect Chaos (No.11) — $13.00 / $3.60
Bet Tracked
Prob 7.2% | Place: 24.4% | Value: 1.13x Steady since tip
Why If the market has underestimated him and the gaps show late, he can absolutely clunk a win.

Race 8 – Horizon By Skycity Hcp Open 1400m, The Midfield Movers Test

Race type: Open, 1400m
Map & tempo: Moderate Pace, Talisker is the ON-PACE fulcrum

Punty read:

1400m on Soft is where you want a horse that can travel and then keep going when the track asks questions. Talisker might be more of a "meet-in-the-middle" type, but he's dangerous if he gets a clean run early.
Sweet Smile is my value angle, because she's the sort that can keep hitting the line, and El Viento has the profile to join the finish when the tempo is just right.

Top 3 + Roughie ($8.00 pool)

1. Talisker (No.4) — $4.50 / $1.90
Bet $8.00 Win, return $36.00
Prob 15.9% | Place: 46.1% | Value: 0.96x Steady since tip
Why He's positioned to run a honest race and on Soft 6 he's got enough grit to stick around late.

2. Sweet Smile (No.9) — $8.00 / $2.65
Bet Tracked
Prob 14.2% | Place: 34.1% | Value: 1.52x Steady since tip
Why A real chance — but at $2.65 the place the numbers don't give me enough edge to insure with. Watching, not betting.

3. El Viento (No.6) — $7.00 / $2.50
Bet Tracked
Prob 13.6% | Place: 32.7% | Value: 1.28x Steady since tip
Why Big finishing chance, just not the cleaner "must bet" on this card.

Roughie: Tellum (No.14) — $13.00 / $3.80
Bet Tracked
Prob 5.5% | Place: 22.3% | Value: 0.96x Steady since tip
Why If the leaders tire and she gets room late, she can punch into the placings and maybe more.

Race 9 – Windsor Park Stud Soliloquy Stakes Open 1400m, Big Day, Big Lanes

Race type: Open, 1400m
Map & tempo: Genuine Pace, Phillyjean up close early

Punty read:

This one's a classic "who can still find the kick" race on Soft. Asturia is the standout pick for me because she looks like she's built for this pressure and can keep running through the mud. Liguria is the other classy threat, and Shalabiya is a real danger if she gets cover and the timing is perfect.
Hawea has her fans, but I want my main play on the one that looks like she can be coming, not just surviving.

Top 3 + Roughie ($8.00 pool)

1. Asturia (No.5) — $4.80 / $1.95
Bet $8.00 Each Way ($4.00W + $4.00P), return $19.20 (wins) / $7.80 (places)
Prob 17.9% | Place: 46.1% | Value: 1.17x Steady since tip
Why Fits the Soft 6 finish role, and she looks like the one most likely to keep improving late.

2. Hawea (No.1) — $4.50 / $1.90
Bet Tracked
Prob 13.5% | Place: 34.1% | Value: 0.82x Steady since tip
Why The top pick's each-way already covers the place angle here — doubling up is paying twice for the same insurance. Tracked instead.

3. Liguria (No.2) — $7.50 / $2.50
Bet Tracked
Prob 12.5% | Place: 32.7% | Value: 1.22x Steady since tip
Why Value for placings, but Asturia is where I want the main.

Roughie: Shalabiya (No.10) — $9.00 / $3.00
Bet Tracked
Prob 8.1% | Place: 24.4% | Value: 0.93x Steady since tip
Why If the race turns into a scramble and she times it, she can still sneak a result.

Race 10 – Golf Warehouse Bm75 1600m, Middle Distance Muscle

Race type: Benchmark 75, 1600m
Map & tempo: Moderate Pace, Perilino is on pace, others midfield

Punty read:

1600m on Soft 6 often turns into a position race, you don't want to be too far back or too wide unless you're a miracle. Perlino looks like the horse that can do the right thing in the run and still have pop at the finish. Free Bird is the value runner with a clean finish look, and Towering Vision can keep grinding away.
Maldini is there, but at this point, I want my main money in the ones with the best finishing profile.

Top 3 + Roughie ($6.00 pool)

1. Perlino (No.6) — $4.40 / $1.85
Bet $6.00 Win, return $26.40
Prob 22.9% | Place: 38.9% | Value: 1.33x Steady since tip
Why He's got the right mix of travel and finish, and Soft suits horses who can maintain their rhythm.

2. Towering Vision (No.2) — $4.40 / $1.85
Bet Tracked
Prob 15.1% | Place: 46.1% | Value: 0.87x Steady since tip
Why A real chance — but at $1.85 the place the numbers don't give me enough edge to insure with. Watching, not betting.

3. Free Bird (No.8) — $8.00 / $2.75
Bet Tracked
Prob 11.7% | Place: 27.8% | Value: 1.24x Steady since tip
Why Great for a place crack, but I'm backing Perlino to get the job done.

Roughie: Rob's Mistake (No.14) — $10.00 / $3.30
Bet Tracked
Prob 5.9% | Place: 22.4% | Value: 0.78x Steady since tip
Why Needs the right kind of run, and if it doesn't go his way early, it can get ugly late.

SEQUENCE LANES

EARLY QUADDIE (R3–R6)

Smart: 3,12,15 / 1,13,2 / 3 / 2 (sequence selection not provided, lane kept tight)
Punty's take: Early quad with a short spine, still got risk because maiden racing is chaos with a trench coat.

QUADDIE (R7–R10)

Smart: 1,9,6,11 / 4,9,6,14 / 5 / 6 (sequence selection not provided, lane kept tight)
Punty's take: Open class legs create volatility, this is more "fun pressure" than guaranteed fireworks.

BIG 6 (R5–R10)

Smart: 8 / 3,15,10 / 1,2,4 / 4,9,6 / 5 / 6 (sequence selection not provided, lane kept tight)
Punty's take: Big 6s are a pick-your-poison job, keeping it narrow so you can at least dream.

NUGGETS FROM THE TRACK

1 - Soft 6 at Ellerslie makes ON-PACE runners pay for every yard.
If they have to go around too much early, the track flattens their finishes, so place bets often beat win-only bravado.

2 - When the speed is genuine and the field is big, "keep finding" horses cash.
You want runners that can stay in rhythm without getting punched up, that's Convinced and Perlino territory.

3 - Roughies that win on Soft 6 usually do it with a timing kink, not a miracle.
Perfect Chaos and Wailea are the sort that can turn a late lane into a win if the tempo breaks at the right moment.

FINAL WORD FROM THE SICKO SANCTUARY

Soft 6 is a cruel bastard, it rewards patience and punishes impatience. My job is to make sure your ticket has the right horses on it when the run-in hits, and your job is to get on early enough to enjoy the ride. Gamble Responsibly.
