Punty's Punts
Race type: Open, 1000m
Map & tempo: Moderate pace, Red Line Fever quickest on paper, Line Of Law in the pocket
Punty read: This is a "rails don't forgive dumb luck" sprint. Line Of Law (No.7) is the market favourite for a reason, but it still has to find clean air and get through. Cassimir (No.2) has the best value swing if it can overcome the wide shuffle and keep grinding late. Te Pani (No.12) is the danger if the backmarker traffic doesn't get its act together early.
Top 3 + Roughie ($15.00 pool)
1. Line Of Law (No.7) — $2.70 🏆 WINNER
Bet $15.00 Win — ✓ Won, net +$25.50
Prob 27.5% | Place: 60.7% | Value: 0.74x
Why Locks into the right stalking rhythm, and with the tempo not going silly, it can hit the line without needing a miracle.
2. Cassimir (No.2) — $8.85 / $2.45 🏆 UNPLACED
Bet Tracked
Prob 16.2% | Place: 46.1% | Value: 1.77x
Why A real chance — but at $2.45 the place the numbers don't give me enough edge to insure with. Watching, not betting.
3. Te Pani (No.12) — $11.25 / $2.50 🏆 4TH
Bet Tracked
Prob 11.0% | Place: 32.7% | Value: 1.52x
Why Fresh legs plus a strong run pattern, if it avoids the traffic it's got a long sprint in it.
Roughie: Red Line Fever (No.11) — $9.02 / $2.80 🏆 UNPLACED
Bet Tracked
Prob 8.5% | Place: 30.3% | Value: 1.25x
Why If the speed collapses, it's the one that can sneak up the inside and steal it on momentum.
Race type: Open, 1400m
Map & tempo: Genuine pace, More Cash to set the tone with others pressing
Punty read: This is the kind of 1400 where the leaders don't just lead, they drag the whole field into a fitness test. More Cash (No.4) looks the class for the run, but The Bentley (No.8) is the one I like for the "always there at the end" factor. I'm also keeping I'm Scarlett (No.12) in my sights because it's the price that can hold form through a proper tempo.
Top 3 + Roughie ($13.00 pool)
1. More Cash (No.4) — $6.50 / $2.40 🏆 UNPLACED
Bet $13.00 Each Way ($6.50W + $6.50P) — ✗ Lost, net -$13.00
Prob 20.8% | Place: 46.1% | Value: 1.12x
Why Maps to be in the race early, and in a genuine tempo this type usually doesn't fade as soon as others.
2. The Bentley (No.8) — $7.20 / $2.65 🏆 WINNER
Bet Tracked
Prob 14.1% | Place: 46.1% | Value: 1.36x
Why The top pick's each-way already covers the place angle here — doubling up is paying twice for the same insurance. Tracked instead.
3. I'm Scarlett (No.12) — $5.00 / $2.00 🏆 2ND
Bet Tracked
Prob 11.9% | Place: 46.1% | Value: 0.99x
Why Can sit handy and run on, but it has to avoid a rough run through the middle.
Roughie: Himeros (No.3) — $12.50 / $3.90 🏆 UNPLACED
Bet Tracked
Prob 8.4% | Place: 32.7% | Value: 1.42x
Why If something swings the tempo late, this can punch through and grab a spot on the podium.
Race type: Maiden, 1400m
Map & tempo: Genuine pace, Velocette showing as pace advantaged
Punty read: Maiden handicaps at this level are chaos lotteries, so you want the ones that look like they'll be there when the race gets ugly. What A Gent (No.12) has the leader style and the class feel. Miss Maverick (No.8) is the live one at the shorter odds, because if it's got a clean run it can finish strongly. Duskaura (No.4) is the X-factor speed, and sometimes speed just wins these races.
Top 3 + Roughie ($13.00 pool)
1. What A Gent (No.12) — $4.00 / $1.75 🏆 UNPLACED
Bet $13.00 Each Way ($6.50W + $6.50P) — ✗ Lost, net -$13.00
Prob 19.4% | Place: 51.6% | Value: 0.83x
Why It's built to lead or be first out of trouble, and at 1400, that positioning is gold.
2. Miss Maverick (No.8) — $4.50 / $1.90 🏆 UNPLACED
Bet Tracked
Prob 19.1% | Place: 54.8% | Value: 1.25x
Why The top pick's each-way already covers the place angle here — doubling up is paying twice for the same insurance. Tracked instead.
3. Duskaura (No.4) — $3.80 / $1.70 🏆 2ND
Bet Tracked
Prob 17.0% | Place: 53.9% | Value: 1.22x
Why Speed map is the weapon here, and these maidens often get decided by who's still pushing at the 100m.
Roughie: Velocette (No.11) — $10.00 / $3.30 🏆 WINNER
Bet Tracked
Prob 8.8% | Place: 34.1% | Value: 1.20x
Why If the leaders get bogged up, it's the one that can coast past them late.
Race type: Maiden, 1000m
Map & tempo: Moderate pace with South Eight advantaged
Punty read: 1000m maidens are brutal, you get one clean decision and then you're just praying. Patrika Express (No.3) is the market play and can absolutely win with the right jump. Half Gage (No.11) is the value into place, and Orchid Boy (No.7) looks like it could ping at the right time.
Top 3 + Roughie ($15.00 pool)
1. Patrika Express (No.3) — $3.60 / $1.65 🏆 WINNER
Bet $15.00 Win — ✓ Won, net +$39.00
Prob 26.4% | Place: 59.2% | Value: 0.92x
Why Fast enough on the day to win straight out of the gate, and it looks built for a short, sharp sprint finish.
2. Half Gage (No.11) — $3.70 / $1.65 🏆 2ND
Bet Tracked
Prob 19.0% | Place: 46.1% | Value: 0.97x
Why A real chance — but at $1.65 the place the numbers don't give me enough edge to insure with. Watching, not betting.
3. Orchid Boy (No.7) — $6.50 / $2.40 🏆 UNPLACED
Bet Tracked
Prob 14.1% | Place: 40.7% | Value: 1.36x
Why The profile says it can be there late, and late at Dubbo is where the money ends up.
Roughie: Street Empress (No.6) — $9.80 / $3.20 🏆 4TH
Bet Tracked
Prob 6.8% | Place: 24.4% | Value: 0.82x
Why If the race compresses and finds a seam, it's got enough to clunk a place.
Race type: Benchmark 58, 2200m
Map & tempo: Slow pace, Cobocco/Bill Peyto/Sellinya advantaged
Punty read: This is where "everyone waits, then it suddenly matters" becomes real. Questionable (No.5) is the one who can win this kind of race because it's suited to surviving the slow sections and then still being strong late. Farraige (No.3) is the value play if the race opens up and the leaders start taking shortcuts. Backhander (No.4) is the type that can tack on for a place.
Top 3 + Roughie ($10.50 pool)
1. Questionable (No.5) — $2.70 / $1.40 🏆 3RD
Bet $10.50 Win — ✗ Lost, net -$10.50
Prob 30.6% | Place: 70.0% | Value: 0.85x
Why Strong win profile in a staying race where the tempo stays controlled, it's hard to extinguish late.
2. Farraige (No.3) — $7.00 / $2.25 🏆 2ND
Bet Tracked
Prob 15.9% | Place: 35.3% | Value: 1.40x
Why A real chance — but at $2.25 the place the numbers don't give me enough edge to insure with. Watching, not betting.
3. Backhander (No.4) — $6.00 / $2.15 🏆 WINNER
Bet Tracked
Prob 12.3% | Place: 46.1% | Value: 0.85x
Why Place hope with enough staying power to keep working late.
Roughie: Godwits (No.2) — $10.00 / $2.85 🏆 4TH
Bet Tracked
Prob 12.3% | Place: 38.9% | Value: 1.47x
Why If Questionable has to do some work earlier, Godwits can take advantage late.
Race type: Class 1, 1300m
Map & tempo: Moderate pace, Geewiz Johnny pace advantaged
Punty read: This race is about who can sit within striking distance without being forced to sprint too early. Chamber Of Secrets (No.5) is the cleanest map read for me, plus the gear says it's meant to perform again. Midnight In Minori (No.9) is the value if it can land close enough. Tigletta (No.2) is the favourite for a reason, but at this stage of the day you want to back the horse that looks like it can finish, not just place.
Top 3 + Roughie ($13.00 pool)
1. Chamber Of Secrets (No.5) — $4.50 / $1.80 🏆 4TH
Bet $13.00 Each Way ($6.50W + $6.50P) — ✗ Lost, net -$13.00
Prob 27.0% | Place: 70.0% | Value: 1.16x
Why Fits the race shape, on-pace style, and it's got the profile to hold position through the turn.
2. Tigletta (No.2) — $2.55 / $1.35 🏆 UNPLACED
Bet Tracked
Prob 19.5% | Place: 70.0% | Value: 0.58x
Why The top pick's each-way already covers the place angle here — doubling up is paying twice for the same insurance. Tracked instead.
3. Midnight In Minori (No.9) — $9.50 / $2.80 🏆 2ND
Bet Tracked
Prob 13.8% | Place: 53.5% | Value: 1.26x
Why It's the value finisher if it isn't trapped too far back.
Roughie: Marinera (No.4) — $9.60 / $2.60 🏆 UNPLACED
Bet Tracked
Prob 10.0% | Place: 46.1% | Value: 1.24x
Why If it gets a real look at the leaders, it can roll into the placings.
Race type: Class 2, 1100m
Map & tempo: Moderate pace, Super Infinity and the on-pacers have the advantage
Punty read: 1100s at Dubbo can be a "rail meets rocket" situation. Super Infinity (No.8) looks like it can keep its momentum and hit the line first, which is what you want. Marvel Man (No.5) and Puffin (No.13) both have enough speed to be in the fight if they land smoothly. Blue De Beers (No.1) is the roughie that can make it messy if it jumps and puts pressure on.
Top 3 + Roughie ($10.50 pool)
1. Super Infinity (No.8) — $3.80 / $1.70 🏆 2ND
Bet $10.50 Win — ✗ Lost, net -$10.50
Prob 29.1% | Place: 61.5% | Value: 1.20x
Why Speed map says it's in control, and at 1100, controlling the rhythm is everything.
2. Marvel Man (No.5) — $7.00 / $2.50 🏆 4TH
Bet Tracked
Prob 14.5% | Place: 46.1% | Value: 1.12x
Why A real chance — but at $2.50 the place the numbers don't give me enough edge to insure with. Watching, not betting.
3. Puffin (No.13) — $3.70 / $1.65 🏆 WINNER
Bet Tracked
Prob 14.3% | Place: 46.1% | Value: 0.64x
Why Place chance is real, but the win price isn't quite sweet enough for me.
Roughie: Blue De Beers (No.1) — $13.50 / $3.60 🏆 UNPLACED
Bet Tracked
Prob 8.0% | Place: 32.7% | Value: 1.39x
Why If it can get out and pressure, it can hold on longer than the odds suggest.
Race type: Handicap, 1100m
Map & tempo: Hot pace, Cruisader Kings and the fast starters in the mix
Punty read: This is a true flying handicap where the first part of the race decides the rest. Where'stheprofit (No.7) is the market favourite but it's got to handle the pressure without getting used up. Crusader Kings (No.5) and Micro Mikki (No.8) both have the "if it's there, it wins" look for me. Castlebar Road (No.4) is the roughie that can steal a short gap and do damage late.
Top 3 + Roughie ($10.50 pool)
1. Where'stheprofit (No.7) — $2.75 / $1.45 🏆 WINNER
Bet $10.50 Win — ✓ Won, net +$18.38
Prob 21.6% | Place: 57.8% | Value: 0.63x
Why On pace, prepared for the tempo, and it's got the right kind of early speed to survive.
2. Crusader Kings (No.5) — $3.90 / $1.72 🏆 4TH
Bet Tracked
Prob 20.3% | Place: 55.1% | Value: 1.07x
Why A real chance — but at $1.72 the place the numbers don't give me enough edge to insure with. Watching, not betting.
3. Micro Mikki (No.8) — $7.00 / $2.50 🏆 3RD
Bet Tracked
Prob 15.0% | Place: 41.6% | Value: 1.39x
Why It can sit handy and keep coming, especially with the pace hot enough to make lanes appear.
Roughie: Castlebar Road (No.4) — $17.00 / $4.40 🏆 2ND
Bet Tracked
Prob 4.5% | Place: 22.3% | Value: 1.17x
Why If it gets a split at the right time, it's one of those "suddenly there" finishers.
Race type: Open, 1600m
Map & tempo: Genuine pace, Stay Silent and Everido/Tom Vegas shaping up
Punty read: 1600 at Dubbo is where middle stages decide the Premier League of the day. Montpellier (No.5) and Puntin (No.6) are the ones with the staying speed to keep pressing, but I'm also backing Tom Vegas (No.14) for an each way sort of run because it can run its race without needing everything to go right. Stay Silent (No.2) is the roughie gamble if it gets a cleaner run and the leaders start stringing out.
Top 3 + Roughie ($13.00 pool)
1. Montpellier (No.5) — $4.80 / $1.95 🏆 4TH
Bet $13.00 Each Way ($6.50W + $6.50P) — ✗ Lost, net -$13.00
Prob 19.5% | Place: 46.1% | Value: 0.96x
Why Strong profile for a 1600 where tempo is honest, it should get a great chance to keep rolling.
2. Puntin (No.6) — $4.20 / $1.80 🏆 WINNER
Bet Tracked
Prob 17.6% | Place: 46.1% | Value: 0.75x
Why The top pick's each-way already covers the place angle here — doubling up is paying twice for the same insurance. Tracked instead.
3. Tom Vegas (No.14) — $5.50 / $2.15 🏆 2ND
Bet Tracked
Prob 13.0% | Place: 46.1% | Value: 0.95x
Why Solid running style, and if it doesn't get swallowed early, it has the engine to finish top 3.
Roughie: Stay Silent (No.2) — $12.00 / $3.50 🏆 UNPLACED
Bet Tracked
Prob 7.2% | Place: 29.3% | Value: 1.09x
Why If it holds the early shape without being pinched, it can kick on at the finish.
Race type: Benchmark 58, 1300m
Map & tempo: Moderate pace, Tiger Town advantaged
Punty read: This is a "who's still there at the 100m" 1300. Mrs Bull (No.12) is the value anchor for me, and if it gets a decent spot it can kick clear late. Lang Park (No.1) is the other key runner if it repeats a strong positioning game. Jagerschnitzel (No.8) is the short price but I'm treating it as a place type today.
Top 3 + Roughie ($13.00 pool)
1. Mrs Bull (No.12) — $8.50 / $2.90 🏆 2ND
Bet $13.00 Each Way ($6.50W + $6.50P) — ✓ Won, net +$5.85
Prob 22.2% | Place: 54.2% | Value: 1.50x
Why Proper value with the right running style for a 1300 handicap, it can stalk and finish without exploding early.
2. Lang Park (No.1) — $4.95 / $1.75 🏆 4TH
Bet Tracked
Prob 18.9% | Place: 56.4% | Value: 1.15x
Why The top pick's each-way already covers the place angle here — doubling up is paying twice for the same insurance. Tracked instead.
3. Jagerschnitzel (No.8) — $2.96 / $1.25 🏆 3RD
Bet Tracked
Prob 14.7% | Place: 46.1% | Value: 0.54x
Why Strong place chance, but I'm not loving the win value at this price.
Roughie: The Confidante (No.4) — $10.00 / $3.30 🏆 UNPLACED
Bet Tracked
Prob 8.2% | Place: 32.7% | Value: 0.91x
Why If it lands the right trip, it can tack into the placings, especially if the pace sets up.
That's the ticket as I struck it — the legs below are exactly what ran, no rewriting history.

Punty's Early Mail
Rightio Loose Units, Dubbo's on a Good 4 with the rail true, and the whole joint's gonna feel like a speed-dream if your horse gets a clean run early. No drizzle, no softness, just proper racing anger. If someone's stuck wide mid-race, they'll earn their place like it's an extra shift at the servo.
Now, the way I see it, the day sets up for: pace to matter early (because it's a sprint and 1100 to 1400 type grind), value to pop where the market gets carried away with one name, and a couple of those "how the hell's that drifted?" jobs that can sneak into the quinella like a mate who turns up late but still thinks he owns the table.
I'm building my spine around my Big 3, then I'm filling in with three each race, plus a roughie that's got either a tactical path or a proper gear/travel angle. That's the playbook. Let's get stuck in.
MEET SNAPSHOT
Track: Dubbo, 1000m-1600m card
Rail: True
Official going: Good 4 (expected to play Speed on early, with the rail doing its job)
Weather: Partly cloudy, 24°C, humidity 52%, wind 16km/h ENE (watch for the gusts, can make them jump a touch)
Early lane guess: Get on speed from wide-ish to middle, don't get trapped
Tempo profile: Moderate to genuine tempo, sprints favour those who can hold position early
Jockeys to follow:
Leandro Ribeiro: Gets the right run, and he's not scared to press.
Jacob Stiff: When he's on, the whole race shape starts to look different.
Jean Van Overmeire: Calm hands, good decision making, usually the one who times it late.
Stables to respect:
Connie Greig (6 runners): Big presence across the card, often with horses that finish.
Brett Robb (5 runners): Shows up with runners that can handle the map and the grind.
Allan Kehoe (4 runners): If you see one with the right gear shift, you listen.
Punty's take:
Race 1 is a straight-up "who controls the first 200m" job, and Line Of Law looks like the sort that can sit in the right spot and still hit the line like it's fresh. Same meeting, different story in the maiden races, where one run can flip everything, and gear changes are the cheat code.
From there, you've got a lot of "market says one thing, I see another" moments. The big one is Race 5, Questionable. Market price might be short, but at this trip and with the way these staying races get set up at Dubbo, it's the kind of horse that keeps doing the job even when the race turns into a mess.
And the later races, especially Race 8 with the flying handicap, are the ones where you can get burned if you follow the favourite with blind faith. I'm using the shape, the likely racing positions, and the little hints in gear and barrier to pick where the value sits.
What it means for you:
If you want to be aggressive early, Race 1 and Race 5 are where I'm planting flags. Get those right, and the rest of the day turns into a lot more forgiving chaos.
If you're playing exotics later, don't over-tighten the wide open legs. Dubbo's the kind of track where one held-up run can ruin a perfectly good plan, so you back the horses with the cleanest path, then you spread just enough to survive the randomness.
And remember, the roughies today are roughies for a reason, they're either priced for a reason, or they're priced wrong. Either way, that's the whole fun.
