Punty's Early Mail
For all of Punty's tips for Eagle Farm, head to https://punty.ai/tips/eagle-farm-2026-10-28
Rightio Legends, Eagle Farm is sitting on a Heavy 9 after 169.5mm in the last seven days, so this is a proper mudfight from the first bell to the last. The rail is at 8.5m and the gusts are up near 30km/h, which means nobody's getting a free ride on the wind. There are seven races from 1000m to 1840m, and I reckon the day is won or lost on who reads the speed right, not who can name the most fancy sires.
MEET SNAPSHOT
Track: Eagle Farm, 1000m to 1840m card
Rail: 8.5m
Official going: Heavy 9 (10mm last 24hrs, 169.5mm last 7 days)
Weather: Fine, live gusts 29.6km/h, rain risk 45%+ chance at 13:00
Early lane guess: unknown pre-race, watch the first two
Tempo profile: Six of the seven races are rated Moderate or Slow on the pace lines, with only Race 5 flagged as Genuine. Race 4 has no named leader, so someone has to take it up or the whole field crawls.
Jockeys to follow:
Ben E Thompson: seven rides today, including Urban Lad in Race 1, Stellagracia in Race 2 and Mystical in Race 4, so he's in the thick of the action all card.
Bella Youngberry: six rides, with a 15.1% strike rate at this track (J@trk) and a 30.5% combo with Impervious in Race 1 that's worth noting.
Jace McMurray: six rides, including Symmetrique in Race 3 and California Grass in Race 5, and he has a 14.1% J@trk on the card.
Stables to respect:
T J Gollan (11 runners): the biggest operation on the card, with Stellagracia, Budda Bar and Ready Set Tergo among the group, and the T@trk for the stable sits at 17.1%.
Chris & Corey Munce (7 runners): Urban Lad, Tramca, Techna and Victoria all carry their colours, so they've got depth across the card.
G Heinrich & B Rodgers (5 runners): Night Glory and Final Edit in Race 3, plus Defiant Miss and Gold In Paris in Race 2, all need watching in the maidens.
Punty's take: Race 1 is the speed shootout, with Urban Lad and Flaressence both listed as leaders and nobody sure who gets the lead. Race 2 looks chaotic with a big field of runners on the pace, but my money sits with Stellagracia as the shortest price in a crowd of forgettable maidens. Race 3 is the banker race, Budda Bar at $1.90 is so short it's almost a bond, and the market has been stiffening him all week. Race 4 is a slow-pace scramble where Mystical has the map to lead, and I like what the market says about him. Race 5 is the staying stoush over 1840m with Genuine pace and a fair few stayers who can make it hard. Race 6 is the benchmark brawl where the speed is spread across Flying Bat and Swing State at the front. Race 7 is the Class 1 test, and Camelight sits on top with the map to ride a patient race.
What it means for you: Be aggressive in Race 3 and Race 4 because the favourites are short and the maps are clean. Protect your bankroll in Race 1 and Race 2 where the speed is shared and the rails are a lottery. Race 5 and Race 7 are the places to think about each-way or place options rather than straight win money. The quaddie is the only sequence on the card at this stage, and it lives or dies on whether the Race 5 and Race 6 favourites hold their form.
PUNTY'S BIG 3 + MULTI
These are the three bets the day leans on.
1 - Budda Bar (Race 3, No.8) — $1.90
Why Budda Bar is the shortest price on the card and the market has been heavily backing him, opening $2.45 and now sitting at $1.90. I make him the banker of the day.
2 - Mystical (Race 4, No.11) — $2.80
Why Mystical has a 35.0% win chance on my numbers, the best in its race, and the slow pace suits a horse with two seconds and a 33.3% combo strike rate with Ben E Thompson.
3 - Stellagracia (Race 2, No.10) — $3.80
Why Stellagracia finished second at Doomben 1200m last start, and the market is backing it in with Ben E Thompson aboard, so it's the most solid price in a messy maiden.
Multi (all three to win): $10 × 20.22 = $202.20
Race 1 – The Speed Shootout
Race type: Benchmark 70, 1000m
Map & tempo: Moderate pace. Leaders named: Urban Lad and Flaressence. Flaressence is LEADER on the map, Urban Lad is LEADER on the map. Isti Star, Impervious, Boss Mode, Rewrite and Sweet Hesitation are all ON-PACE. No one is marked MIDFIELD or BACKMARKER.
Punty read: Flaressence is my stake. He is the LEADER on the map, the pace line has him advantaged, and he's the $2.65 favourite for a reason. Last start he finished 3rd at Eagle Farm 1000m, only 3.8L off the winner, and before that a win at Sunshine Coast. He's got a 1-2-1 career record and has been placed in every heavy-track run he's had, which at this price is all I need. The danger is Urban Lad, who shares the lead and has a 22.2% combo with Ben E Thompson, so there's a real chance the two of them go hard early. Boss Mode is the one I'd watch, the market has him at $4.40 and he's a Good track specialist, but the pace line marks him as a disadvantaged runner in this shape.
Top 3 + Roughie ($12.00 pool)
1. Flaressence (No.8) — $2.90 / place tote
Bet $12.00 Win, return $34.80
Prob 23.7% | Place: 46.1% | Value: 0.69x Steady since tip
Why Leader in a seven-horse field, the pace line has him advantaged, and his last two runs show he's competitive at this distance.
2. Boss Mode (No.3) — $4.40 / $2.15
Bet Tracked
Prob 22.3% | Place: 46.1% | Value: 0.98x Steady since tip
Why Only two places paid in a field this size, and skinny place divvies make savers a mug's game — this is a win-only race. Tracked, not staked.
3. Urban Lad (No.6) — $5.50 / place tote
Bet Tracked
Prob 16.8% | Place: 38.9% | Value: 0.92x Steady since tip
Why He's the other leader and the one who could make Flaressence's day hard, but he's the pick to watch rather than the one to back.
Roughie: Isti Star (No.1) — $13.00 / $3.90
Bet Tracked
Prob 4.0% | Place: 11.8% | Value: 0.52x Steady since tip
Why He never got a clear run at Gold Coast last start and has the sectional speed to get into the race late if the front pair fold.
Race 2 – The Maiden Mud Fight
Race type: Maiden, 1200m
Map & tempo: Moderate pace. Pace advantaged: Duchess Difficult and Jolayna Dash. Pace disadvantaged: Lady Soprano, Legas Spirit, Stellagracia. Stellagracia is ON-PACE on the map but the pace line marks her as disadvantaged, so the map and the pace line disagree here. Buttercup, Reconciliate, Hit A Lick and Aristocratic Girl are all ON-PACE.
Punty read: Stellagracia is the bet, and I've got to be honest about the cracks. She has one of the shortest prices in the race at $3.80, a 24.2% win chance on my numbers, and a 57.8% place chance, so the place side is the cushion. She ran 2nd at Doomben 1200m last start and went 2nd at Doomben 1000m before that. The pace line flags her as disadvantaged, so if the early speed is hot she might get stuck wide. Buttercup is the one I'd keep an eye on, the gear changes are all on first time (ear muffs, tongue tie and a right side winker), and the career record is 0-6-2, so she's knocking on the door without kicking it in.
Top 3 + Roughie ($15.00 pool)
1. Stellagracia (No.10) — $3.80 / $1.70
Bet $15.00 Win, return $57.00
Prob 24.2% | Place: 54.4% | Value: 0.92x Steady since tip
Why Two runs placed at the 1000m and 1200m marks with Ben E Thompson riding, and the market is shortening her.
2. Buttercup (No.2) — $4.20 / $1.72
Bet Tracked
Prob 21.3% | Place: 47.2% | Value: 0.89x Steady since tip
Why A real chance — but at $1.72 the place the numbers don't give me enough edge to insure with. Watching, not betting.
3. Reconciliate (No.9) — $5.50 / $2.15
Bet Tracked
Prob 11.0% | Place: 38.9% | Value: 0.60x Steady since tip
Why Third at Doomben 1200m last start and the market has eased her in to $5.50, so she's the value on a nice day.
Roughie: Hit A Lick (No.11) — $11.00 / $3.30
Bet Tracked
Prob 8.1% | Place: 32.7% | Value: 0.89x Steady since tip
Why He's a horse who runs on and has the form to pick up if the early pace in the maiden blows up.
Race 3 – Budda Bar Banker or Bust
Race type: Maiden, 1200m
Map & tempo: Moderate pace. Leaders named: Son's Of Fortitude and Night Glory. Budda Bar is ON-PACE. Speedy Crown is BACKMARKER and is pace advantaged. Flashing Star is BACKMARKER and disadvantaged.
Punty read: Budda Bar is the banker, and the market agrees with me. He's $1.90, a 39.0% win chance on my numbers and 70.0% for a place, and the price has come in from $2.45 under heavy support. He's come 4th at Doomben 1200m and 2nd at Eagle Farm 1200m, so he's been competitive over this trip. The danger is Speedy Crown, who has the back-end speed and the pace advantage, and is the one who could run down the leaders. The market has him firming too, from $4.60 to $3.90.
Top 3 + Roughie ($15.00 pool)
1. Budda Bar (No.8) — $1.95 / $1.22
Bet $15.00 Win, return $29.25
Prob 39.0% | Place: 70.0% | Value: 0.76x Steady since tip
Why The market has made him the banker and I'm happy to agree, he's ON-PACE in a race where the front is shared.
2. Speedy Crown (No.4) — $4.00 / $1.72
Bet Tracked
Prob 21.3% | Place: 58.2% | Value: 0.85x Steady since tip
Why A real chance — but at $1.72 the place the numbers don't give me enough edge to insure with. Watching, not betting.
3. Tivacious (No.6) — $9.00 / $2.80
Bet Tracked
Prob 7.8% | Place: 32.7% | Value: 0.70x Steady since tip
Why A first-up runner with ear muffs and tongue tie both on first time, and J@trk 15.8% with Michael Rodd, so he's a live outsider rather than a backable one.
Roughie: The Aviator (No.5) — $13.00 / $3.50
Bet Tracked
Prob 6.1% | Place: 27.8% | Value: 0.79x Steady since tip
Why He's the one from midfield who could sneak through if the leaders stall and the favourite gets pinned on the fence.
Race 4 – Slow Pace Scramble
Race type: Maiden, 1400m
Map & tempo: Slow pace. No leaders are named on the pace line. Mystical, Ready Set Tergo, Nation and Akshaya are all BACKMARKER, and Alto Luna, Boots and Icy Lad are MIDFIELD. Nation is the only one with a pace advantage.
Punty read: Mystical is the bet, and the price is short for a reason. He's $2.80 with a 35.0% win chance and a 70.0% place chance, and his extended form shows a 1st at Randwick 1050m. The pace line puts no one at the front, so Mystical has to be the one who takes it up or sits outside a sluggish pace. The danger is Ready Set Tergo, who the market has at $5.00 and who has finished 3rd and 4th in recent runs. Nation is the other one to watch with a 1.11 pace advantage. The slow pace makes this a race of who can finish, not who can lead.
Top 3 + Roughie ($15.00 pool)
1. Mystical (No.11) — $2.80 / $1.45
Bet $15.00 Win, return $42.00
Prob 35.0% | Place: 70.0% | Value: 0.98x Steady since tip
Why He's the horse the market trusts most in this slow pace, with a strong Good track record and the 33.3% combo with Ben E Thompson that backs up the market move.
2. Ready Set Tergo (No.7) — $5.00 / $2.00
Bet Tracked
Prob 16.4% | Place: 46.1% | Value: 0.82x Steady since tip
Why A real chance — but at $2.00 the place the numbers don't give me enough edge to insure with. Watching, not betting.
3. Nation (No.6) — $5.50 / $2.15
Bet Tracked
Prob 12.1% | Place: 45.9% | Value: 0.67x Steady since tip
Why He's the only horse with a pace advantage in a slow race, and he's close up in his last three runs.
Roughie: Akshaya (No.9) — $9.50 / $3.10
Bet Tracked
Prob 7.9% | Place: 32.7% | Value: 0.75x Steady since tip
Why He's a backmarker who needs the pace to come to him, and a slow race is the kind of race where a late runner can get home.
Race 5 – Staying Stoush
Race type: Class 4, 1840m
Map & tempo: Genuine pace. Family Of League is the only named leader and is LEADER on the map. Barcelo and El Jasor are ON-PACE. Mirra Impact, Mazis, Prochester and most of the field are MIDFIELD. Entrusting is BACKMARKER.
Punty read: Mirra Impact is the bet at $4.20. She's got a 19.9% win chance on my numbers, the best in the race, and she has a 4-3-2 career record that puts her in the placings more often than not. Her last two runs were 2nd at Eagle Farm 1800m and 3rd at Toowoomba 1625m, and the market has her firming on the back of that. The danger is Family Of League who has the lead, and the pace line has him advantaged. Mazis and Prochester are the two I'd keep on the list, both in midfield with a good chance of finding a run.
Top 3 + Roughie ($4.50 pool)
1. Mirra Impact (No.1) — $4.40 / $1.80
Bet $4.50 Win, return $19.80
Prob 19.9% | Place: 46.1% | Value: 0.88x Steady since tip
Why The best 1800m form in the race, a 2nd at Eagle Farm 1800m last start, and the steady midfield position that suits a staying race at this pace.
2. Mazis (No.4) — $5.50 / $2.15
Bet Tracked
Prob 13.1% | Place: 38.9% | Value: 0.72x Steady since tip
Why A real chance — but at $2.15 the place the numbers don't give me enough edge to insure with. Watching, not betting.
3. Prochester (No.2) — $4.80 / $1.90
Bet Tracked
Prob 12.8% | Place: 38.9% | Value: 0.61x Steady since tip
Why Two straight wins at 1600m and 1800m on the Sunshine Coast, and a heavy-track 2-0-0.
Roughie: Family Of League (No.9) — $10.00 / $3.10
Bet Tracked
Prob 10.6% | Place: 34.1% | Value: 1.06x Steady since tip
Why He's the only leader in a genuine-paced race, and if he gets to hold a pace for 1840m he's a real danger.
Race 6 – Benchmark Brawl (WATCH ONLY)
Race type: Benchmark 72, 1300m
Map & tempo: Moderate pace. Leaders named: Flying Bat and Swing State, both LEADER on the map. Noble Decree, Puff 'n' Harry and Tasoraay are ON-PACE. Hopper, Exceed Speed and Aldolfito are MIDFIELD. Oakfield Duke is BACKMARKER.
Punty read: Noble Decree is the one I've got a bit of interest in, but I'm not going all in. He's $5.50 with a 12.8% win chance and 38.8% place, and the Each Way is the play here. He's the pace advantaged ON-PACE runner, and his last start was a 2nd at Doomben 1000m. The danger is Puff 'n' Harry, who is ON-PACE and has the Eagle Farm 1200m run to his name. Tasoraay is the one to watch if the front pair get hot, he's the $4.00 favourite and has finished 1st at Newcastle last start.
Top 3 + Roughie ($9.00 pool)
1. Noble Decree (No.5) — $6.50 / $2.15
Bet $9.00 Each Way ($4.50W + $4.50P), collects $38.93 if it wins ($29.25 win + $9.68 place), $9.68 if it only places
Prob 12.8% | Place: 34.1% | Value: 0.83x Steady since tip
Why The pace advantage and a recent 2nd at Doomben 1000m make him the right each-way bet in a race without a clear banker.
2. Puff 'n' Harry (No.12) — $6.50 / $2.40
Bet Tracked
Prob 10.2% | Place: 29.3% | Value: 0.66x Steady since tip
Why The top pick's each-way already covers the place angle here — doubling up is paying twice for the same insurance. Tracked instead.
3. Tasoraay (No.8) — $4.60 / $1.75
Bet Tracked
Prob 9.6% | Place: 38.8% | Value: 0.44x Steady since tip
Why He won at Newcastle 1000m and Beaumont 1000m, and the market has him as the short favourite, so he's the one to beat.
Roughie: Hopper (No.10) — $10.00 / $3.30
Bet Tracked
Prob 6.2% | Place: 24.1% | Value: 0.61x Steady since tip
Why He's midfield with the Heavy 3:0-1-0 record, so if the leaders collapse he could run on.
Race 7 – Class 1 Test (WATCH ONLY)
Race type: Class 1, 1400m
Map & tempo: Moderate pace. Camelight, Storming Home and Victoria are ON-PACE. Maquisa, Kokatahi and Idyllic Affair are MIDFIELD. Switz, Idyllic Affair, Victoria, Whiskey And Rose and Tulong are pace advantaged.
Punty read: Camelight is my stake, $4.60 with a 15.9% win chance and 46.1% place. He's ON-PACE on the map and has the 1st-up 2:1-0-0 record, plus a 4th at Doomben 1000m last start. The danger is Maquisa, who sits midfield and has been running on through the field, and Kokatahi, who the market has at $8.50 with 1st on heavy. Victoria is the one from the pace-advantaged group who can sit outside Camelight and steal a run.
Top 3 + Roughie ($8.00 pool)
1. Camelight (No.1) — $5.50 / $1.90
Bet $8.00 Win, return $44.00
Prob 15.9% | Place: 34.6% | Value: 0.87x Steady since tip
Why The map gives him a good run from on-pace, and his last two runs are close enough to suggest he's still in form.
2. Maquisa (No.8) — $8.50 / $2.90
Bet Tracked
Prob 9.6% | Place: 32.7% | Value: 0.82x Steady since tip
Why A real chance — but at $2.90 the place the numbers don't give me enough edge to insure with. Watching, not betting.
3. Kokatahi (No.4) — $8.50 / $2.90
Bet Tracked
Prob 9.6% | Place: 37.5% | Value: 0.82x Steady since tip
Why Second at Doomben 1350m and Eagle Farm 1200m in his last two runs, and he's been close to the front.
Roughie: Idyllic Affair (No.7) — $12.00 / $3.50
Bet Tracked
Prob 6.4% | Place: 24.2% | Value: 0.77x Steady since tip
Why He's a pace-advantaged midfielder with a 1-1-0 record and a jockey strike rate of 15.8% at this track.
SEQUENCE LANES
QUADDIE (R4–R7)
Smart: 11,7,6,9 / 1,2,4,9 / 8,5,12,10 / 4,1,8,7 (256 combos x $0.3125 = $80.00) -- 31.2% flexi
Punty's take: Race 4 is the only tight leg with Mystical at the top, but Races 5, 6 and 7 are all open enough that the ticket is wide. At $80 this is a high-outlay chaos ticket, and it needs a $5 to $10 winner in one of the open legs to pay well. Entertainment-only for most punters, so keep the stakes sensible.
NUGGETS FROM THE TRACK
1 - The first-time gear on Buttercup
Ear muffs, tongue tie and a right side winker are all on first time for Buttercup in Race 2, and her career record is 0-6-2. She's had the seconds, the question is whether the gear turns those into wins.
2 - Budda Bar has been backed in hard
Budda Bar opened at $2.45 and is now $1.90 under heavy market support. That's the sort of money that tells you someone has a strong view, even if the reason isn't written down.
3 - Mirra Impact has the record for a long race
Mirra Impact has a 20-start career with 4 wins, 3 seconds and 2 thirds, which is more consistency than most of the field can point to in this 1840m race.
FINAL WORD FROM THE RATBAG REPORT
Heavy tracks and long odds make a mess of everyone's plans, so the best thing you can do is know when to walk away. Keep the stakes small, the mates close and the bar tab under control. Back the banker when it's there and leave the rest for the ticket you can afford to lose.
