Punty's Punts
Race type: Maiden; 1400m
Map & tempo: Slow Pace, backmarker disadvantage, wind on the straight makes late runs harder
Punty read:
This is a "who gets position early" maiden. It's not one of those races where you can just throw darts from the tail and hope magic appears at the 300m. Pac Fair (No.2) and Ted Lasso (No.3) are the two that most likely sit closer than everyone else and survive the wind. Radomir (No.6) is the awkward one in the mix, he can slot in, but if the pace is softer than expected he's a sneaky threat rather than a banker.
Top 3 + Roughie ($13.00 pool)
1. Pac Fair (No.2) — $2.46 / $1.15 🏆 WINNER
Bet $13.00 Win — ✓ Won, net +$18.98
Prob 31.6% | Place: 69.0% | Value: 0.94x
Why Big on-the-map presence and the market's treating him like the horse who should at least be in the finish, not just there to make up numbers.
2. Ted Lasso (No.3) — $2.90 / $1.30 🏆 3RD
Bet Tracked
Prob 27.6% | Place: 69.0% | Value: 1.03x
Why A real chance — but at $1.30 the place he's not a saver, he's a punt, and that's not a price I insure at. Watching, not betting.
3. Radomir (No.6) — $5.70 / $1.90 🏆 4TH
Bet Tracked
Prob 14.8% | Place: 56.2% | Value: 0.96x
Why Gets into the midfield and can keep momentum through the windy straight. Not a value kicker, more a place-sitter if the favourites wobble.
Roughie: Dark Martian (No.1) — $9.50 / $2.70 🏆 UNPLACED
Bet Tracked
Prob 7.4% | Place: 29.0% | Value: 0.93x
Why Ear muffs and winkers first time could sharpen him up, but you're backing the race to fall apart for the on-pace lot.
Race type: Maiden; 1000m
Map & tempo: Moderate Pace, sprint punch, on-pace advantage matters a heap
Punty read:
Cardonette (No.5) is the obvious speed engine. In 1000m maidens, if you're on the right part of the track early, the finish comes fast and merciless. Varejao (No.4) is the value angle because he can sit closer, and when the market's ready to forgive something, you pay attention. The third seat is Duchess Difficult (No.7), but she's more there to benefit from chaos, not lead the charge.
Top 3 + Roughie ($24.00 pool)
★ PUNTY'S PICK 1. Cardonette (No.5) — $1.50 / $1.03 🏆 WINNER
Bet $17.50 Win — ✓ Won, net +$8.75
Prob 54.2% | Place: 69.0% | Value: 1.07x
Why Everything points to him landing on pace and running his race, which is exactly what you want at this track on a sprint day.
2. Varejao (No.4) — $7.00 / $1.82 🏆 UNPLACED
Bet $6.50 Place — ✗ Lost, net -$6.50
Prob 13.4% | Place: 44.4% | Value: 1.30x
Why He's got enough tactical speed to not get bullied by the leaders, and the market support says they expect more than "just a run."
3. Duchess Difficult (No.7) — $9.00 / $2.20 🏆 UNPLACED
Bet Tracked
Prob 8.4% | Place: 53.8% | Value: 0.98x
Why Blinkers first time can help, but she needs the right ride and the leaders to set it up.
Roughie: Tszinsi (No.8) — $10.30 / $2.50 🏆 2ND
Bet Tracked
Prob 7.3% | Place: 36.6% | Value: 1.24x
Why If she gets her chance in the early mix, she can snag a place. Otherwise she's the "you needed the track to help" one.
Race type: Restricted 58; 1730m
Map & tempo: Slow Pace, the finish turns into a tactical grinder
Punty read:
This 1730m is where horses either park and pounce, or they get trapped behind everyone's excuses. All About Artie (No.2) is the on-pacer you respect, but the value angle tonight is Monte Carlo Miss (No.7) and Weekend Artist (No.1). Monte Carlo Miss maps to get a run into it and the rain risk later in the day makes the staying burst more about timing than pure sprinting.
Top 3 + Roughie ($9.00 pool)
1. All About Artie (No.2) — $2.76 / $1.32 🏆 UNPLACED
Bet $6.50 Win — ✗ Lost, net -$6.50
Prob 20.2% | Place: 64.1% | Value: 0.76x
Why On pace, stays in the contest, and with a slow tempo, he can steal the race with a clean run turning for home.
2. Monte Carlo Miss (No.7) — $4.60 / $1.80 🏆 4TH
Bet $2.50 Place — ✗ Lost, net -$2.50
Prob 19.1% | Place: 56.8% | Value: 1.19x
Why She's positioned to get into the action late, and if the leaders get tested, she's the one grabbing the gaps.
3. Weekend Artist (No.1) — $5.20 / $1.75 🏆 WINNER
Bet Tracked
Prob 17.4% | Place: 53.8% | Value: 1.23x
Why Strong value on paper, but she needs a very specific trip and timing to run into the top three.
Roughie: Chayse 'n' Penny (No.3) — $9.60 / $3.00 🏆 UNPLACED
Bet Tracked
Prob 7.8% | Place: 28.6% | Value: 1.02x
Why If she gets clear early and the whole race turns into a scramble, she's got enough about her to run over the top of tired runners.
Race type: Open; 1400m
Map & tempo: Moderate Pace with some early leaders, but midfield runners can still get involved
Punty read:
Slippin' Jimmy (No.1) has the look of the "do not overthink it" horse. He's been productive at this kind of level, and with the track expected to stay mostly Good 4, it suits runners who can keep grinding. Deep Respect (No.3) is the danger if he can bypass the worst of the traffic. Flying Bat (No.5) is the value because she can sit closer to the front and pick off those who spend too much early energy.
Top 3 + Roughie ($15.00 pool)
★ PUNTY'S PICK 1. Slippin' Jimmy (No.1) — $2.15 / $1.35 🏆 UNPLACED
Bet $15.00 Win — ✗ Lost, net -$15.00
Prob 36.4% | Place: 66.3% | Value: 1.05x
Why Midfield means he avoids the early burn, then he comes with a proper run. This is how you cash when the wind starts squeezing late.
2. Deep Respect (No.3) — $3.55 / $1.95 🏆 2ND
Bet Tracked
Prob 21.1% | Place: 56.2% | Value: 1.00x
Why Only two places paid in a field this size, and skinny place divvies make savers a mug's game — this is a win-only race. Tracked, not staked.
3. Flying Bat (No.5) — $6.00 / $2.90 🏆 3RD
Bet Tracked
Prob 13.8% | Place: 32.8% | Value: 1.11x
Why She's in the right speed zone and can kick on. Needs the leaders to set it up instead of running away with it.
Roughie: Fort William (No.6) — $11.00 / $4.00 🏆 UNPLACED
Bet Tracked
Prob 5.6% | Place: 16.3% | Value: 0.82x
Why You're hoping for a couple of the right horses to land in traffic. Then he's the one that can nick a cheeky finish.
Race type: Restricted 58; 1200m
Map & tempo: Hot Pace, leaders get first crack, but the straight decides who's still got fuel
Punty read:
This is a sprint where the front two to three are going to be dangerous, because 1200m is where you run out of time. La Profecia (No.5) is the pocket rocket at a price that feels like value for a classier run. Homeric (No.7) is the other on-pace type that can hang on if the tempo stays honest. But if you want the real multi-coverage vibe, Purosangue (No.1) is the one I want on the place side.
Top 3 + Roughie ($10.50 pool)
1. La Profecia (No.5) — $3.50 / $1.55 🏆 3RD
Bet $10.50 Each Way ($5.25W + $5.25P) — Cashed, net -$2.36
Prob 20.1% | Place: 69.0% | Value: 0.94x
Why The market has her where she should be, and she's got the speed to be right there when the straight wind starts sucking the legs.
2. Purosangue (No.1) — $6.00 / $2.25 🏆 6TH
Bet Tracked
Prob 18.0% | Place: 36.6% | Value: 1.44x
Why The top pick's each-way already covers the place angle here — doubling up is paying twice for the same insurance. Tracked instead.
3. Homeric (No.7) — $3.60 / $1.55 🏆 4TH
Bet Tracked
Prob 17.6% | Place: 55.0% | Value: 0.84x
Why She's in the mix, but the price is too tight for me to go chasing place value here.
Roughie: The Opportunist (No.8) — $11.00 / $2.85 🏆 9TH
Bet Tracked
Prob 9.1% | Place: 29.3% | Value: 1.33x
Why If the pace clips and he gets the right lane, he's the snag. Otherwise he's one for the "next time" list.
Race type: Class 3; 1800m
Map & tempo: Slow Pace, so it's a timing race, not a pure sprint race
Punty read:
This one's set up for horses who can stalk with purpose. Mishani Witness (No.2) is the key, Power Reece (No.11) is the one that might keep grinding on, and Brain Wave (No.7) is the wildcard type that can chew up the line if the tempo stays uneven. The rain risk can make the finish a bit more "bob into the clear and go," so keep an eye on who finds clean ground.
Top 3 + Roughie ($19.00 pool)
1. Mishani Witness (No.2) — $2.90 / $1.32 🏆 2ND
Bet $14.00 Win — ✗ Lost, net -$14.00
Prob 28.9% | Place: 69.0% | Value: 1.14x
Why She's got enough tactical intent to keep within striking distance, and when the tempo is slow, that matters a hell of a lot.
2. Power Reece (No.11) — $3.00 / $1.35 🏆 UNPLACED
Bet $5.00 Place — ✗ Lost, net -$5.00
Prob 24.6% | Place: 69.0% | Value: 1.01x
Why On the speed side of the race, and the straight wind makes "still going" more valuable than "promising at the 400m."
3. Brain Wave (No.7) — $3.50 / $1.45 🏆 WINNER
Bet Tracked
Prob 19.0% | Place: 63.4% | Value: 0.91x
Why She can run, but the place pricing is too tight for me to lean on.
Roughie: Solidude (No.4) — $14.00 / $3.50 🏆 UNPLACED
Bet Tracked
Prob 4.0% | Place: 17.3% | Value: 0.77x
Why Needs the race to break and for the in-form types to get bogged. If that happens, he's in the right frame to grab a piece.
Race type: Class 1; 1400m
Map & tempo: Moderate Pace, this is a positioning war, not a sprint and pray
Punty read:
Artistic Endeavour (No.1) is the one I keep coming back to. Mythology (No.10) is flying under the radar for value, and Welcome Advice (No.14) is the sneaky type who can hit the line hard if the race loses its shape. Smashing Nova (No.3) is your chaos ace for minor money if things go wrong for the top two.
Top 3 + Roughie ($22.00 pool)
1. Artistic Endeavour (No.1) — $3.30 / $1.40 🏆 WINNER
Bet $17.00 Win — ✓ Won, net +$39.10
Prob 30.5% | Place: 64.9% | Value: 1.31x
Why He's the one that looks set to be in the right spot and keeps picking his way, even if rain shows up and the track turns into a bit of a punch-up.
2. Mythology (No.10) — $3.20 / $1.40 🏆 2ND
Bet $5.00 Place — ✓ Won, net +$2.00
Prob 27.3% | Place: 69.0% | Value: 1.14x
Why On pace and drawn to get going. If the favourites start doing that "almost" thing, she grabs the lead run.
3. Welcome Advice (No.14) — $4.20 / $1.62 🏆 4TH
Bet Tracked
Prob 13.0% | Place: 56.2% | Value: 0.71x
Why Needs the tempo to fall apart and for him to find a lane at the right moment.
Roughie: Ready To Drink (No.12) — $20.00 / $3.80 🏆 UNPLACED
Bet Tracked
Prob 3.6% | Place: 17.3% | Value: 0.95x
Why You're hoping for a late sprint miracle when the field bunches up late in the race.
Race type: Benchmark 65; 1200m
Map & tempo: Genuine pace, this is a speed test into the straight wind
Punty read:
Impact Zone (No.10) looks like the "right behind the speed" weapon. Lumens Lenny (No.5) sets the tempo and can take a run at it, but if the wind bites, staying in front becomes harder. Flying Vento (No.9) is the other one who can be hard to stop if he gets the right trip, while River Ribble and Sum Invictus are more for the "someone's got to get trapped" scenario.
Top 3 + Roughie ($15.00 pool)
1. Impact Zone (No.10) — $2.65 / $1.60 🏆 2ND
Bet $15.00 Win — ✗ Lost, net -$15.00
Prob 33.1% | Place: 69.0% | Value: 1.13x
Why On pace, good gate for the rhythm, and he should keep kicking while the straight wind is doing its worst.
2. Lumens Lenny (No.5) — $4.50 / $2.25 🏆 WINNER
Bet Tracked
Prob 24.5% | Place: 48.6% | Value: 1.42x
Why Only two places paid in a field this size, and skinny place divvies make savers a mug's game — this is a win-only race. Tracked, not staked.
3. Flying Vento (No.9) — $4.10 / $1.90 🏆 UNPLACED
Bet Tracked
Prob 18.5% | Place: 40.4% | Value: 0.97x
Why Very live if he's positioned well, but I'm backing the two with the cleanest maps.
Roughie: Chilliwack (No.6) — $15.25 / $4.20 🏆 3RD
Bet Tracked
Prob 4.1% | Place: 12.2% | Value: 0.80x
Why Needs a bit of fall of the cards, and then he can pick up pieces late when everyone's gassed.
That's the ticket as I struck it — the legs below are exactly what ran, no rewriting history.
Smart: 2,3,6,1 / 5,7,4,2,8 / 2,7,1,3 / 1,3,5 (240 combos x $0.15 = $35.00) -- 15% flexi
That's the ticket as I struck it — the legs below are exactly what ran, no rewriting history.

The day's multi leans on three win legs across the card.

3 - Impact Zone (Race 8, No.10)✗ — $2.65
Meeting Stats
Selections
Punty's Early Mail
Rightio Loose Units, Gold Coast's throwing showers at us, rail's helping the early blokes, and the tempo looks like a slow cooker that'll suddenly boil late. That wind up the straight and the rain risk means the "strong through the line" types get paid, while the closers have to earn their dinner.
MEET SNAPSHOT
Track: Good 4, 1400m to 1200m jumps between, 8 races, many chances to get the right run style
Rail: +8m 1000m to winning post, +4m remainder
Official going: Good 4 (expected to play On Pace bias, with late value if the track nicks wet)
Weather: Shower or two, 20°C, moderate SSE with straight wind (watch for 45%+ rain late)
Early lane guess: Quaddie brains will want to stay on-pace through Races 5 to 8
Tempo profile: Slow to moderate early heat, then the straight wind will punish anything too far back
Jockeys to follow:
Jasper Franklin: grabs plenty of chances and tends to be right when the market's right
Brandon Lerena: often lands in the right spot, and when there's speed, he makes it count
Georgina Cartwright: can win ugly, especially when the race shapes up for her positioning
Stables to respect:
Michael Freedman (0 runners): they're putting gear on brand-new gallopers and aiming to improve first-up
T J Gollan (4 runners): likes landing with the well-supported sprinters, and the 1x2x3 combos look alive
Jeff Dunn (1 runners): old mate fires up when the target race lines up and he gets the right pace scenario
Punty's take:
Gold Coast today is giving me "early speed survives, but value comes from the ones that still work when the clouds drop." With that headwind up the straight, you do not want to be stuck in traffic, and you definitely do not want your horse waiting for a clear run at the 200m mark. This is the sort of day where the on-pace crews are bowling first, then the last 100m decides whether the closers get a cheeky look in.
The pace map is doing the heavy lifting all day. In the short races, it's mostly about gate speed and who settles without getting smothered. In the longer one at 1730m, it becomes more "park the right horse and let it tip into the finish," because slow tempo races can turn into a straight-out sprint when the rain hits and the surface gets tacky.
Now for the meat, the Big 3 spine is pretty obvious, and I'm building lanes that survive some chaos without going full degenerate roulette.
What it means for you:
Start confident in the earlier lanes where the speed bias looks clean, especially in Races 2 and 4. If you're going to be aggressive today, do it with the horses that are drawn to either lead or sit right behind the wheel. Don't fall for the "big late finish" story unless the horse is already travelling and can hit the straight with momentum.
For the value plays, I'm leaning into setups where the market firms on the day or where the gear and map say "this one has to improve." Where there's rain risk, I want horses that can handle pressure and still lift. The roughies are there for if the race shape breaks, so don't ignore them, just don't marry them.
