Punty's Early Mail
For all of Punty's tips for Kalgoorlie, head to https://punty.ai/tips/kalgoorlie-2026-08-23
Rightio Loose Units, Kalgoorlie on a Good 4 with the sky doing that "maybe, maybe not" thing, 4.2mm already dropped since 9am. If you buy a ticket today, you better be ready to watch a few blokes get pantsed in the run to the line.
This is the type of meeting where the front end tells the story early, and the smart money keeps circling the same few horses like legends in an underground boxing gym. The rail is +3m entire, so expect the track to be playing a touch fair, but if the showers keep creeping in, you might see a little extra chop in the kickback and a few finishing bursts turn into hold-on-and-hope affairs.
My spine today is simple. Vivalda kicks off Race 1, Stylin' sets the tone in Race 2, and Just Sublime brings it home in Race 8. Between those, I'm betting the track maps and those "get positioned early" jockey decisions are going to matter more than fancy dreams. Now let's crack in.
MEET SNAPSHOT
Track: Kalgoorlie, 1100-1600m card
Rail: +3m Entire
Official going: Soft 5 (updated from Good 4) (expected to play speed to midfield, with a bias to runners who can hold their position)
Weather: Shower or two, 11C, humidity 99%, wind 11km/h SSE (watch for late showers, rain risk 40%+ at 02:00)
Early lane guess: Mid lanes early, outside you go later only if the leader line stays honest
Tempo profile: Moderate pace early, but with enough pressure to make mid-pack runners earn their keep
Jockeys to follow:
Jason Li: Usually settles smart and can pop when the gap appears, he knows when to pounce.
Jefferson Tsang: Big on pace positions, he tends to get a run through the race without overworking.
Brayden Gaerth: Strong when the race strings out, watch for him to hit the line in a straight run home.
Stables to respect:
P J Fernie (multiple runners): Consistent intent, lots of them are set up to run their race on the day.
D & B Pearce (multiple runners): When they're bringing gear and tactical plans, these aren't throwaways.
Mack Hall (multiple runners): Fitter, sharper, and not scared of the pocket late in the race.
Punty's take: This track is Good 4 right now, but the air's wet and the surface's still getting fiddled with. That usually means two things. One, the speed is still real, but two, the "nice run" turns into "survive the run" for anyone who gets stuck behind traffic or too far back. So I'm riding the pace rails in my head, even when I'm betting a midpack horse.
Races 1 to 4 are your early quaddie playground, and I want you to pay attention to who maps cleanly rather than who just looks good on paper. Vivalda in Race 1 is the sort of favourite that doesn't need theatrics, she just keeps rolling into the finish. Then Race 2, Stylin' is the leader in a field that's happy to sprint and then sweat it out, so I'm backing the front end to keep honest work.
By the time we get to Race 6 and Race 7, the benchmark grade usually turns into a chess game. Treble Maker and Tacito types, if they get clear, can make the race look simple. And Race 8? Just Sublime is exactly the kind of horse that turns "safe" into "too late to hold."
What it means for you: Be aggressive where the map sets up. That means on the leaders and the stalking horses, especially where the barrier is giving you a nice position without needing heroics. Where I'm taking value, it's because these races have a pattern, not because I'm chasing fairy dust.
If you're spreading, keep it sensible. Your strongest aggression zones are Race 1, Race 2, and Race 8. For the rest, use the Top 3 structure to cover the obvious dangers, then keep your roughie bets to one per race so you don't go broke playing roulette with your own wallet.
Alright, enough talk. Let's do the business.
PUNTY'S BIG 3 + MULTI
1 - Vivalda (Race 1, No.7) — $1.91
Why She's built for this tempo, and she's the kind of favourite that can win without getting lost in the field.
2 - Stylin' (Race 2, No.3) — $2.51
Why Pace setup is right in the pocket, and when she finds her rhythm she grinds past them.
3 - Just Sublime (Race 8, No.3) — $3.40
Why Blinkers first time, market support, and she's got the run style to hit the line hard.
Multi (all three to win): $10 × ~16.00 = ~${160.00} collect
Race 1 – Liquor City Kalgoorlie Maiden 1200m
Race type: MAIDEN, 1200m
Map & tempo: Moderate pace, Billy The Boss and Miss Bickmore are the early goers, Vivalda sits handy and sneaks into the lane.
Punty read: This looks like a maiden where the race shape matters more than who's "due". Vivalda (No.7) is the one I want around the money because she's showing the clean sort of speed profile to get involved early and keep going late. Billy The Boss (No.2) is the other key: he maps on-pace and the market's had a good long look at him, which usually means he's not just along for the scenery.
Gold Lilly is drifting and backmarkers in maidens can get stuck if they don't find clear air, so her value is more about finishing bursts than leading changes.
Top 3 + Roughie ($15.00 pool)
1. Vivalda (No.7) — $1.91 / $1.20
Bet $15.00 Win, return $28.65
Prob 38.5% | Place: 69.0% | Value: 0.94x
Why She's the polished operator here, and the pace scenario gives her every chance to stick the landing.
2. Billy The Boss (No.2) — $8.15 / $2.75
Bet Tracked
Prob 7.7% | Place: 38.9% | Value: 0.89x
Why A real chance — but at $2.75 the place he's not a saver, he's a punt, and that's not a price I insure at. Watching, not betting.
3. Miss Bickmore (No.12) — $5.10 / $1.95
Bet Tracked
Prob 11.1% | Place: 53.9% | Value: 0.97x
Why Third line of the market is where place bets go to die slowly — the ledger says so at every price. He carries the exotics and the watch list, not the bankroll.
Roughie: Gold Lilly (No.8) — $9.60 / $3.20
Bet Tracked
Prob 8.6% | Place: 40.6% | Value: 0.84x
Why If she swoops, it's because traffic gives her a late clear lane, otherwise she's a long way back.
Race 2 – EBM Insurance & Risk Goldfields Bm58+ 1100m
Race type: HANDICAP, 1100m
Map & tempo: Moderate pace, Stylin' and Art Session press the leaders, Dancewithme is the one who can fill gaps if it stays honest.
Punty read: Sprint handicap in Kalgoorlie land means you either own the position or you get mugged for it. Stylin' (No.3) is the standout map wise. She's the sort that can control the tempo without needing to fly from the stratosphere, and once she hits a clear spot she's got that straight run home.
Art Session (No.1) is another one to respect, especially with her record when the market has looked twice. Dancewithme (No.4) is a value angle, but she needs things to break her way, because wide or messy is where she can pay the price.
Top 3 + Roughie ($19.00 pool)
1. Stylin' (No.3) — $2.51 / $1.20
Bet $14.00 Win, return $35.14
Prob 33.8% | Place: 69.0% | Value: 0.98x
Why She's the key to the race shape, and she's got the speed to keep taking ground late.
2. Art Session (No.1) — $3.30 / $1.37
Bet $5.00 Place, return $6.85
Prob 25.6% | Place: 69.0% | Value: 1.17x
Why Bumped last time into traffic luck and still got through, this track rewards a clean trip.
3. Dancewithme (No.4) — $5.95 / $1.75
Bet Tracked
Prob 9.9% | Place: 47.0% | Value: 0.86x
Why Third line of the market is where place bets go to die slowly — the ledger says so at every price. He carries the exotics and the watch list, not the bankroll.
Roughie: Twist Of Gold (No.5) — $10.30 / $2.75
Bet Tracked
Prob 6.1% | Place: 29.0% | Value: 0.98x
Why Her run is about finding that held-up gap early in the straight, if it appears she can surprise.
Race 3 – Metres Down Under Hcp (C2) 1100m
Race type: HANDICAP, 1100m
Map & tempo: Moderate pace, White Hot and Alebrije are on, Morf and Slippery Fish can lead to pressure up front.
Punty read: This is a "front half decides it" 1100. White Hot (No.5) has the blinkers upgrade and the profile to handle a quick turn of foot. Alebrije (No.2) is right in the mix and looks like the sort who can improve position and keep popping at the right time.
Morf (No.1) and Slippery Fish (No.3) are both in the danger zone if the track stays slick and the leaders keep going, because one tired step can end your story. Lovesexy (No.8) is your roughie for when the speed collapses, she can slice through if there's space.
Top 3 + Roughie ($10.50 pool)
1. White Hot (No.5) — $4.65 / $1.90
Bet $10.50 Each Way ($5.25W + $5.25P), return $24.41 (wins) / $9.97 (places)
Prob 18.4% | Place: 64.2% | Value: 1.11x
Why Blinkers first time at the sprint distance, and she's got the place-friendly profile if it gets tight late.
2. Alebrije (No.2) — $4.75 / $1.90
Bet Tracked
Prob 16.6% | Place: 59.3% | Value: 1.02x
Why The top pick's each-way already covers the place angle here — doubling up is paying twice for the same insurance. Tracked instead.
3. Morf (No.1) — $5.35 / $2.00
Bet Tracked
Prob 15.7% | Place: 56.6% | Value: 1.09x
Why Third line of the market is where place bets go to die slowly — the ledger says so at every price. He carries the exotics and the watch list, not the bankroll.
Roughie: Lovesexy (No.8) — $9.60 / $3.20
Bet Tracked
Prob 6.1% | Place: 23.4% | Value: 0.84x
Why If they duel too hard and then slow, she's the one who can pick up the pieces.
Race 4 – Frank Turich Memorial Bm58+ 1300m
Race type: HANDICAP, 1300m
Map & tempo: Moderate pace, Gibraltar Gold and Dreamers Never Die are the main hope to control the first part.
Punty read: 1300m at Kalgoorlie is where you want runners who can keep their momentum without getting swallowed. Gibraltar Gold (No.7) is the class of the field on the way it maps, and the market's been chewing on it for a reason.
Dreamers Never Die (No.1) is the other line I like. If he jumps well and finds a stalking spot, he'll keep grinding through the middle stages. Spangledstar (No.5) is a bit of a "could run a race" type, but the value side isn't there on the win approach.
Top 3 + Roughie ($22.00 pool)
1. Gibraltar Gold (No.7) — $3.40 / $1.57
Bet $17.00 Win, return $57.80
Prob 21.7% | Place: 69.0% | Value: 0.91x
Why He's got the right tactical position, and once he sees daylight he makes it tough for the stalkers.
2. Dreamers Never Die (No.1) — $4.05 / $1.72
Bet $5.00 Place, return $8.60
Prob 20.8% | Place: 69.0% | Value: 1.11x
Why If the track stays fair, he's built to hit the line with a sustained effort.
3. Spangledstar (No.5) — $8.40 / $2.90
Bet Tracked
Prob 9.3% | Place: 40.3% | Value: 1.01x
Why Third line of the market is where place bets go to die slowly — the ledger says so at every price. He carries the exotics and the watch list, not the bankroll.
Roughie: More Likely (No.2) — $10.10 / $3.30
Bet Tracked
Prob 6.0% | Place: 27.9% | Value: 0.94x
Why She needs the right race flow and a clean run into the final straight.
Race 5 – George Thomas Memorial Hcp (C1) 1400m
Race type: HANDICAP, 1400m
Map & tempo: Moderate pace, Eightyseven Lad is on the speed map, Alotta Fighting is midfield but can get into the race.
Punty read: This is an open-ish 1400 where the "saved ground" theory can win you your bet. Eightyseven Lad (No.1) is fav because he keeps showing enough to take the right position and be there when the gaps appear.
Alotta Fighting (No.6) is the value angle in the middle, and Simply Royalty (No.5) is a rough top-line threat if she gets a clean run and doesn't get caught too far back.
Viresha (No.8) is the roughie for when the back half of the field gets its chance, but it's not a "guaranteed lane" sort of profile.
Top 3 + Roughie ($13.00 pool)
1. Eightyseven Lad (No.1) — $3.85 / $1.65
Bet $13.00 Each Way ($6.50W + $6.50P), return $25.03 (wins) / $10.72 (places)
Prob 20.3% | Place: 69.0% | Value: 1.06x
Why You want stability in chaos, and he's the kind who can be near the action and not panic.
2. Alotta Fighting (No.6) — $5.60 / $2.15
Bet Tracked
Prob 11.3% | Place: 47.0% | Value: 0.76x
Why The top pick's each-way already covers the place angle here — doubling up is paying twice for the same insurance. Tracked instead.
3. Simply Royalty (No.5) — $10.10 / $3.50
Bet Tracked
Prob 8.2% | Place: 34.1% | Value: 1.17x
Why Third line of the market is where place bets go to die slowly — the ledger says so at every price. He carries the exotics and the watch list, not the bankroll.
Roughie: Viresha (No.8) — $9.40 / $3.30
Bet Tracked
Prob 6.5% | Place: 28.0% | Value: 0.87x
Why If she slides into traffic and finds a late lane, she can pop over the top.
Race 6 – Palace Hotel The Gold Rush Bm70+ 1200m
Race type: BenchMark 70+, 1200m
Map & tempo: Genuine pace, Treble Maker and Tacito are in the right range to keep improving, close to the action.
Punty read: 1200m at benchmark level is where you see class rise and ego fall. Treble Maker (No.8) has the best "do the job" profile, and the way the race is set up suggests she can make her run without needing a miracle.
Tacito (No.7) is a place threat, especially if the pace stays strong enough to stretch them early. Queen Of Hawks (No.10) is the other for the trifecta dreamers, but you need her to produce late in a straight.
Debonnaire (No.4) is a roughie for value if the race breaks in her favour, she's got that steady build.
Top 3 + Roughie ($10.50 pool)
1. Treble Maker (No.8) — $4.05 / $1.72
Bet $10.50 Each Way ($5.25W + $5.25P), return $21.26 (wins) / $9.03 (places)
Prob 19.7% | Place: 69.0% | Value: 1.05x
Why The race pace suits her, and she's got the strike profile to grab a placing with confidence.
2. Tacito (No.7) — $5.45 / $2.15
Bet Tracked
Prob 13.3% | Place: 56.2% | Value: 1.10x
Why The top pick's each-way already covers the place angle here — doubling up is paying twice for the same insurance. Tracked instead.
3. Queen Of Hawks (No.10) — $6.20 / $2.25
Bet Tracked
Prob 12.7% | Place: 55.3% | Value: 1.02x
Why Third line of the market is where place bets go to die slowly — the ledger says so at every price. He carries the exotics and the watch list, not the bankroll.
Roughie: Debonnaire (No.4) — $10.30 / $3.20
Bet Tracked
Prob 6.9% | Place: 29.0% | Value: 1.05x
Why If she gets a clean run through midfield, she'll be a menace late.
Race 7 – Specialised Engineering Goldfields Tattersalls Cup 1600m
Race type: Open, 1600m
Map & tempo: Moderate pace, Monty Zoomer and Prophet And Power are the main speed anchors, The Jester's Son is midfield pressure.
Punty read: 1600m open class means the race can turn into a slow crawl early, then a sprint-finish betrayal. Monty Zoomer (No.3) is the type that keeps finding enough, and he's right in the sweet spot for this setup.
Friar's Legacy (No.9) can be deadly if the pace isn't too brutal, and Prophet And Power (No.4) is a classic "if they let him run, he's hard to stop" leader.
Crunchy Nut (No.5) is the roughie, she's the sort who can find another gear if the field stings itself.
Top 3 + Roughie ($22.00 pool)
1. Monty Zoomer (No.3) — $4.55 / $1.82
Bet $17.00 Win, return $77.35
Prob 19.6% | Place: 69.0% | Value: 1.08x
Why He maps well, he stays in the race, and when they go again he's got the engine to match.
2. Friar's Legacy (No.9) — $3.25 / $1.55
Bet $5.00 Place, return $7.75
Prob 20.1% | Place: 69.0% | Value: 0.85x
Why Close enough to the pace to take advantage, and he's built for a long finishing burst.
3. Prophet And Power (No.4) — $5.95 / $2.15
Bet Tracked
Prob 14.0% | Place: 57.5% | Value: 1.07x
Why Third line of the market is where place bets go to die slowly — the ledger says so at every price. He carries the exotics and the watch list, not the bankroll.
Roughie: Crunchy Nut (No.5) — $12.00 / $3.70
Bet Tracked
Prob 5.1% | Place: 21.7% | Value: 0.91x
Why The path is pace pressure and then a late outside swing, if it comes she can steal it.
Race 8 – Goldfields Tattersalls Social Club Hcp (C2) 1600m
Race type: HANDICAP, 1600m
Map & tempo: Moderate pace, the race likely stays grouped longer, and the back end needs the right lane.
Punty read: Race 8 is your "clean trip and then attack" job. Just Sublime (No.3) is the one I trust to produce on the big day, blinkers first time and a profile that can sit and then go bang late.
Gold Enigma (No.2) has the tactical ability to hang around and make it awkward, and Moonshine Queen (No.6) is the value-adjacent runner if the leaders start to tire.
Lendanear (No.4) is your roughie type because she's got the right pace idea, but she needs the right kind of race flow to avoid getting stranded.
Top 3 + Roughie ($13.00 pool)
1. Just Sublime (No.3) — $3.40 / $1.57
Bet $13.00 Win, return $44.20
Prob 22.1% | Place: 69.0% | Value: 1.00x
Why Blinkers go on, the run style suits, and she's got the late power for 1600m.
2. Gold Enigma (No.2) — $6.50 / $2.25
Bet Tracked
Prob 12.0% | Place: 49.0% | Value: 1.00x
Why A real chance — but at $2.25 the place he's not a saver, he's a punt, and that's not a price I insure at. Watching, not betting.
3. Moonshine Queen (No.6) — $7.50 / $2.50
Bet Tracked
Prob 12.2% | Place: 51.6% | Value: 1.20x
Why Third line of the market is where place bets go to die slowly — the ledger says so at every price. He carries the exotics and the watch list, not the bankroll.
Roughie: Lendanear (No.4) — $9.15 / $3.10
Bet Tracked
Prob 6.5% | Place: 28.5% | Value: 0.86x
Why Needs to find the pocket early and then stay grinding, otherwise she's chasing late.
SEQUENCE LANES
Early Quaddie (R1–R4)
Smart: 7,12,2,8 / 3,1,5 / 5,8,2,1 / 1,7,2,5 (192 combos x $0.18 = $34.56) -- 18% flexi
Punty's take: Two open legs in the middle keep it spicy, but the early fav structure in R1 and the 1300 split in R4 give it a decent spine.
Quaddie (R5–R8)
Smart: 1,8,4,3 / 8,4,2,10 / 3,9,5,2 / 3,4,6,8 (256 combos x $0.25 = $64.00) -- 25% flexi
Punty's take: Four open race lanes means this one's entertainment first, but you are covering the right shapes for a big hit.
Big 6 (R3–R8)
Smart: 5 / 7 / 1 / 8 / 3 / 3 (1 combos x $2.00 = $2.00) -- 200% flexi
Punty's take: Single combination, pure YOLO. If any leg wobbles, it's fireworks for someone else.
NUGGETS FROM THE TRACK
1 - Rain anxiety, but the speed still leads
With the track staying Good 4 but the air wet, expect earlier runners to keep their advantage. If the showers come late, it usually affects footing for the lane winners, not the front-end stoppers.
2 - Those "gear-up" runs are the real whispers
Blinkers and pad changes are popping up across the card, and when they do, it usually means a tactical tweak, not just a fashion statement. If you see a horse switch gear and firm in the market, that's your sign to respect the run.
3 - The rail isn't a trap, it's a guide
+3m entire makes it a touch fair, so don't automatically assume every outside run is cooked. But in the last 100m, whoever is in the right lane position will look like they're walking through molasses while everyone else is swimming.
FINAL WORD FROM THE SICKO SANCTUARY
Alright legends, if you get cute today, make sure it's with a plan, not vibes. I'll take the spine and let the chaos earn its keep around it, go on, behave yourself at the till. Gamble Responsibly.
