Punty's Early Mail
For all of Punty's tips for Moree, head to https://punty.ai/tips/moree-2026-05-23
Rightio Loose Units, Moree's serving up a proper little speed puzzle today: a couple of 950m dash jobs where the early burners can nick a break, a mile race that looks like a tactical chess match, and a few picnic Cup scrambles where the map is half the battle and the other half is nerves.
MEET SNAPSHOT
Track: Moree, 950m-1600m card
Rail: True
Official going: Good 4 (expected to play fair but with on-pace runners getting their chance)
Weather: Sunny, 21°C, humidity 50%, wind 18km/h ESE (watch for a bit of a headwind and late pressure on swoopers)
Early lane guess: Inside lanes should hold up okay early; leaders and leaders-with-cover look the safe play
Tempo profile: Short-course sprints look sharp and honest, Race 3 is a genuine tempo, Race 4 and Race 6 should be more tactical than hectic
Jockeys to follow:
Ashley Boyd — she's landed on a stack of live rides and is the sort of hoop who can turn a handy map into a payday without making a song and dance about it.
Leandro Ribeiro — keeps popping up on runners with a genuine chance, and in these Moree races that can be the difference between a photo and a headache.
Amber Collins — has a few key seats in the right races, especially where tempo and positioning matter more than flash form.
Stables to respect:
Connie Greig (4 runners) — she's got runners spread through the card and a couple that can seriously threaten if the map falls their way.
Stephanie Sixtus (3 runners) — a few honest types here, and the gear changes on the fresh ones say they mean business.
W Oakenfull (2 runners) — not many bullets, but the ones that matter are mapping well enough to make you sit up.
Punty's take:
This is the sort of Moree card where the first 200 metres can make or break your day. The 950m races are basically "get out clean or get wrecked", especially with the rail true and a Good 4 surface that should reward horses sitting handy rather than back-half loafers waiting for miracles. In the maiden and the class race, the horses with a bit of tactical toe are the ones you want to be near, because this isn't Flemington on a Saturday where you can drift back and pretend you're in a movie montage.
Then you've got Race 3 and Race 4 doing the old "speed vs patience" dance. Race 3 looks like a proper open mile where the genuine tempo should sort the boys from the toys, while Race 4 is one of those small-field knife fights where a soft run in transit is worth its weight in cold beer. Race 5 and Race 6? That's where the loose units can get a bit rowdy. One or two of those prices are screaming "look at me", but the model's keeping the wallet disciplined, which is usually a good sign we're not here to play roulette at the pub.
What it means for you:
Keep the aggression for the horses with map help and sane price tags, and don't go chasing every shiny roughie that blinks at you. The cleanest play on the card is the short-course runners that can hold a position without burning petrol, while the open races want a bit more protection through the place lanes or a small win lean rather than a full-on ego punt.
Race 1 and Race 2 are the sort of races where a good jump and a clean map can do most of the work for you. Race 4 has the best "bet the race, not the horse" feel about it, because the shape is simple and the return on the right one is tidy. Race 5 is the gotcha race; plenty of people will talk themselves into a long shot, but the smarter move is to respect the shape and not try to be the hero in the final scene of an action flick.
PUNTY'S BIG 3 + MULTI
These are the three bets the day leans on.
1 - Barrieanna (Race 1, No.6) — $2.88
Why Maps to the right part of the race and looks the one they all have to catch if she holds the spot; in a thin maiden, that kind of tactical advantage is gold.
2 - Airfield (Race 2, No.1) — $4.08
Why The last run had excuses, and from the right draw in a sprint where position matters, she's the sort that can bounce back and make them chase.
3 - Bobotov (Race 4, No.4) — $5.03
Why Small field, soft map, and enough upside to make the price look a bit rude; if he gets the run the race shape hands him, he'll be right in it.
Multi (all three to win): $10 × ~59.10 = ~$591.05 collect
Race 1 – The 950m Maiden Scrap
Race type: Mdn Plate, 950m
Map & tempo: Moderate tempo, with No.3 Midnight Rabble and No.4 Pub Feed both wanting to be handy, while No.6 Barrieanna has the cleanest map of the bunch
Punty read: This is a straight-up "get on your horse and hope the bunny doesn't bolt" kind of maiden. Barrieanna's the one with the best overall profile, but Midnight Rabble has enough map to run a place and Pub Feed is one of those honest battlers who'll keep sticking on if the others start looking at each other rather than the line.
Top 3 + Roughie ($25 pool)
1. Barrieanna (No.6) — $2.88 / $1.63
Bet $15.00 Win, return $43.20
Prob 35.7% | Place: 69.9% | Value: 0.94x
Why She's the one mapping to control the race without doing too much work, and on a day where the sprints should reward position, that's the sort of edge punters should respect.
2. Midnight Rabble (No.3) — $6.67 / $2.89
Bet Tracked
Prob 18.9% | Place: 43.8% | Value: 1.14x
Why Last-start trouble can be forgiven here, and from barrier 3 with the likely on-speed setup, he's the kind who can sneak into the frame if the favourite isn't fully wound up.
3. Pub Feed (No.4) — $7.75 / $3.25
Bet Tracked
Prob 15.2% | Place: 36.2% | Value: 1.06x
Why Honest enough and the map is fine, but the 8kg weight swing screams "best left to fill the minors if the race gets messy".
Roughie: Yes Kiss (No.9) — $10.53 / $4.18
Bet Tracked
Prob 13.9% | Place: 33.3% | Value: 1.34x
Why If the front-end pair go at each other like Bunnings dads over the last sausage sizzle, she can be the one clattering home into the placings.
Race 2 – The 950m Speed Burn-Up
Race type: Hcp (Cl b), 950m
Map & tempo: Moderate tempo, with No.3 You Count and No.1 Airfield likely to be in the firing line and No.2 Irish Arthur getting the kinder map to stalk
Punty read: This is one of those races where the fence is your best mate if you're on the right horse. Airfield gets the nod because the last run had excuses and this map should let the horse settle into the job early. You Count has the sharp form line but the price is no gift, and Irish Arthur is the sort of place play that saves your skin when the favourite gets all the attention.
Top 3 + Roughie ($25 pool)
1. Airfield (No.1) — $4.08 / $2.03
Bet $15.00 Win, return $61.20
Prob 24.3% | Place: 52.9% | Value: 0.99x
Why Slow start last time can be tossed in the bin, and from barrier 2 in a sprint this tight, a clean getaway puts him right where the race is being won.
2. You Count (No.3) — $3.34 / $1.78
Bet $10.00 Place, return $17.80
Prob 23.7% | Place: 51.8% | Value: 0.79x
Why He looks the class shape horse, but the market's not exactly throwing confetti at him, so the sensible play is letting him do his best work without needing him to punch through the ceiling.
3. Irish Arthur (No.2) — $6.10 / $2.70
Bet Tracked
Prob 19.0% | Place: 43.2% | Value: 1.16x
Why The map suits, the track/distance profile is decent, and if the leaders go too hard, he's the sort who can be running on into the money late.
Roughie: Western Eagle (No.6) — $8.40 / $3.30
Bet Tracked
Prob 15.2% | Place: 35.4% | Value: 1.27x
Race 3 – The Open Mile Chess Match
Race type: Trophy Hcp, 1600m
Map & tempo: Genuine pace, with Himeros likely to roll forward and give the race some shape, while The Bentley gets a softer stalking run
Punty read: Proper race this. Not a sit-and-sprint trash fire, but a genuine tempo where positioning, fitness and the right ride matter. The Bentley gets the nod because he's the type to sit in the right lane and finish the job, Himeros is the obvious danger if he gets away with murder in front, and Shooting Firm is the smoky who can clunk into a place if the pace turns the race into a test rather than a jog.
Top 3 + Roughie ($25 pool)
1. The Bentley (No.1) — $5.10 / $2.37
Bet $15.00 Win, return $76.50
Prob 20.4% | Place: 35.6% | Value: 1.04x
Why He maps to get the right run behind the speed and his recent form says he's right in the zone for this sort of open-mile bruiser.
2. Himeros (No.2) — $3.26 / $1.75
Bet $10.00 Place, return $17.50
Prob 19.2% | Place: 33.9% | Value: 0.63x
Why The leader's the leader for a reason, and if he gets a breather mid-race he can absolutely make this bunch chase shadows for a long way.
3. Shooting Firm (No.5) — $11.49 / $4.50
Bet Tracked
Prob 16.4% | Place: 29.6% | Value: 1.89x
Why The price is the lure, and if the genuine tempo exposes a few flat spots in the favourite brigade, this bloke can be the one finishing like a steam train.
Roughie: More Cash (No.3) — $12.82 / $4.94
Bet Tracked
Prob 13.9% | Place: 25.4% | Value: 1.78x
Why He's the blowout horse if the race gets ugly late; not the prettiest recent ledger, but the map and price mean you can't completely toss him in the swamp.
Race 4 – The Small-Field Tactical Scrap
Race type: Trophy Hcp, 1200m
Map & tempo: Slow tempo, with No.4 Bobotov and No.5 Maryland Bridge both wanting forward positions while No.3 Trifecta Ruby is forced to play the patience game
Punty read: This is the one where the bloke on the right horse should look like a genius. Bobotov gets the soft map and the model has sniffed value there, while Trifecta Ruby is the one with the best straight form line if she lands the right stalking run. Maryland Bridge is rock-hard honest but the price is tighter than a crow's ass in a storm.
Top 3 + Roughie ($25 pool)
1. Bobotov (No.4) — $5.03 / $2.34
Bet $10.00 Win, return $50.30
Prob 34.9% | Place: 67.9% | Value: 1.76x
Why He gets the cheap run in the race and the tempo looks like it will hand him every chance to hit the line with something left.
2. Trifecta Ruby (No.3) — $2.58 / $1.53
Bet $10.00 Win, return $25.80
Prob 33.2% | Place: 65.9% | Value: 0.86x
Why Honest as a monk and tough enough to keep grinding, but the map isn't giving her a free ride, so she has to do a bit more work than the top elect.
3. Maryland Bridge (No.5) — $2.42 / $1.47
Bet $4.50 Win, return $10.89
Prob 31.9% | Place: 64.1% | Value: 0.77x
Why He'll be around the money because he's bloody reliable, but the setup says he's more the grinder than the value play.
Roughie: None
Why Three-horse race, no real hiding place, and the outsider is still pretty short - that's not roughie territory, that's just a tactical scrap.Race 5 – The Picnic Cup Brawl
Race type: Picnic Cup, 950m
Map & tempo: Moderate tempo, with No.4 On Hold and No.2 Voigner the two maps that actually make sense, while No.8 Pyromania and the others wait for the chaos to sort itself out
Punty read: This is a proper loose-unit race. On Hold is the big price horse with the best shape, but the model's not coughing up a stack there because it doesn't want to be mugged by the market. Voigner is the cleaner play for the place because the map and freshness angle are both handy, and Connewarre is the sort of honest traveller who can bob up if the front end gets silly.
Top 3 + Roughie ($10 pool)
1. On Hold (No.4) — $17.24 / $6.41
Bet $15.00 Each Way ($7.50W + $7.50P), return $129.30 (wins) / $48.08 (places)
Prob 17.5% | Place: 38.5% | Value: 2.29x
Why Great map, nice shape, and exactly the kind of runner that can make a race look easy if the others overcook it in front.
2. Voigner (No.2) — $16.39 / $6.13
Bet Tracked
Prob 16.3% | Place: 36.2% | Value: 2.03x
Why Fresh enough, maps well enough, and in a race like this the sensible money is often on the horse who can lob into the right part of the field without needing miracles.
3. Connewarre (No.3) — $8.47 / $3.49
Bet Tracked
Prob 16.2% | Place: 35.9% | Value: 1.04x
Why The gear changes are interesting and the right rider can make a mess of this sort of field, but the wallet doesn't need to fight every battle.
Roughie: Pyromania (No.8) — $13.33 / $5.11
Bet Tracked
Prob 12.3% | Place: 28.0% | Value: 1.24x
Why If the leaders turn it into a bar fight and start missing punches, this one can be the late arrival that sneaks into the exotics.
Race 6 – The Late-Day Minefield
Race type: Moree Picnic Cup, 1400m
Map & tempo: Slow tempo, with No.1 I'm Scarlett advantaged on the map, but No.3 Shut Eye still the horse Punty's willing to lean on because the race shape could get ugly for the back end
Punty read: This is the sort of race where everyone thinks they've found the answer until the last 200 metres says otherwise. I'm Scarlett has the best map, but the model is more interested in the value of Shut Eye doing the donkey work and hanging on for the finish, while Saint Loft is the roughie who can run a cheeky race if the leaders go to sleep.
Top 3 + Roughie ($13 pool)
1. Shut Eye (No.3) — $7.94 / $3.31
Bet $13.00 Each Way ($6.50W + $6.50P), return $51.61 (wins) / $21.52 (places)
Prob 16.1% | Place: 26.9% | Value: 1.16x
Why The gear tweak and the profile say they're looking for a sharper effort, and the each-way play makes sense in a race where the tempo may not be honest enough to hand the swoopers everything on a plate.
2. I'm Scarlett (No.1) — $4.41 / $2.14
Bet Tracked
Prob 15.7% | Place: 26.3% | Value: 0.62x
Why Best map in the race, no argument, but the price is too short to keep stacking on top of the main play.
3. Lesgo Don (No.2) — $8.20 / $3.40
Bet Tracked
Prob 13.1% | Place: 22.8% | Value: 0.97x
Why He can settle in the right sort of lane, but the job is harder than the market thinks and the place lane isn't juicy enough to justify extra wallet damage.
Roughie: Saint Loft (No.7) — $15.87 / $5.96
Bet Tracked
Prob 12.0% | Place: 21.3% | Value: 1.72x
Why Fresh horse with a hint of upside, but this is more the sort of runner you keep in mind for exotics if the race falls to bits late.
SEQUENCE LANES — SINGLE OPTIMISED TICKET
QUADDIE (R3-R6)
Smart: 1, 2, 5 / 4, 3, 5 / 4, 2, 3 / 3, 1, 2, 7 (108 combos x $0.74 = $80) — 74% flexi
Three open-ish legs and one proper tactical scrap, so this is a live ticket but it's not for the faint-hearted. Bobotov anchors it nicely, but Race 5 and Race 6 are the sort of legs that can mug you if you start daydreaming about the payout before the tape goes up.
NUGGETS FROM THE TRACK
1 - Moree 950m is all about the first tick of the stopwatch
On a Good 4 with the rail true, the short-course races are really about who settles near the front without burning too much juice. That's why Barrieanna, Airfield and Voigner all make sense on the map.
2 - The model's not buying every roughie story today
The $20-plus fairy tales are usually where punters go to die, and this card has a few shiny prices that look better in the bar than on paper. The smarter darts are the ones with shape, not just a large number next to their name.
3 - Connie Greig has a real hand in the meeting
She's got runners in multiple races and a few of them are positioned to make noise if the map cooperates. That's the sort of stable you keep on your radar when Moree turns tactical rather than chaotic.
FINAL WORD FROM THE SICKO SANCTUARY
This is a meeting where the smart money lives in the map, not the ego. If the leaders control the shorties, the place lane can be the cleanest way through the chaos, and if one of the longer-priced anchors lands the right run, the whole day can get very interesting very quickly. Gamble Responsibly.
