Punty's Punts
Race type: Benchmark 64, 1250m
Map & tempo: Genuine Pace, expect real pressure, on-pace does favours with the headwind
Punty read: Mafee and Chicago Blues should take turns doing the lead-work, and that's where you want to be today. The danger is everyone trying to play catch-up into a headwind, so I'm backing the on-pacer who's drawn close enough to get first crack at the finish.
Top 3 + Roughie ($13.00 pool)
1. Chicago Blues (No.3) — $4.00 / $1.57 🏆 WINNER
Bet $13.00 Win — ✓ Won, net +$39.00
Prob 27.8% | Place: 69.0% | Value: 1.33x
Why Wide draw not an issue here, she's positioned to be in the fight and this track shape suits a quick turn of foot.
2. Bohemian Angel (No.4) — $4.40 / $1.65 🏆 3RD
Bet Tracked
Prob 19.1% | Place: 64.6% | Value: 0.98x
Why A real chance — but at $1.65 the place the numbers don't give me enough edge to insure with. Watching, not betting.
3. Miss Mahjong (No.1) — $5.00 / $1.70 🏆 2ND
Bet Tracked
Prob 17.6% | Place: 57.7% | Value: 1.08x
Why Her bounce-back angle is there, plus the track and distance look workable, but I'll keep the main stake on the cleaner pace.
Roughie: Cork Harbour (No.5) — $15.00 / $3.40 🏆 4TH
Bet Tracked
Prob 7.6% | Place: 29.0% | Value: 1.39x
Why If the speed collapses even a touch, this is the type that can swipe a place and maybe more.
Race type: Maiden, 1250m
Map & tempo: Genuine pace, but in maidens the leaders can still get run down if the field stacks
Punty read: This is a race where you want the horse that can hold a position without being hunted early. Bilk and Cosmic Shower are the two that look like they can keep their rhythm, and in a Good 4 with wind, rhythm is everything.
Top 3 + Roughie ($13.00 pool)
1. Bilk (No.5) — $3.95 / $1.65 🏆 2ND
Bet $13.00 Each Way ($6.50W + $6.50P) — Cashed, net -$2.28
Prob 24.5% | Place: 69.0% | Value: 0.84x
Why He's drawn to sit in the real work zone, and that place chance is the sweet spot in this kind of maiden.
2. Cosmic Shower (No.6) — $3.45 / $1.57 🏆 WINNER
Bet Tracked
Prob 23.4% | Place: 69.0% | Value: 0.67x
Why The top pick's each-way already covers the place angle here — doubling up is paying twice for the same insurance. Tracked instead.
3. The Black Harp (No.4) — $7.30 / $2.15 🏆 4TH
Bet Tracked
Prob 12.2% | Place: 55.8% | Value: 1.02x
Why Lugging bit first time plus debut-style education, I'm viewing it as a depth runner for the place end.
Roughie: Goldeni (No.11) — $16.75 / $3.50 🏆 10TH
Bet Tracked
Prob 6.5% | Place: 25.2% | Value: 1.24x
Why If one of the fancied ones overdoes it early, Goldeni's the kind of price that can muscle into third.
Race type: Benchmark 78, 1250m
Map & tempo: Slow pace, so you want a class animal who can lift when the pack tightens
Punty read: Slow tempo at 1250 means the race turns into a timing contest. The Cosmic One and Light The Night are both set up to pounce late, but this is where I'm picking The Cosmic One to take control when the field springs. If they go a touch too slowly, he'll make them pay.
Top 3 + Roughie ($15.00 pool)
1. The Cosmic One (No.1) — $3.55 / $1.80 🏆 WINNER
Bet $15.00 Win — ✓ Won, net +$38.25
Prob 34.1% | Place: 58.5% | Value: 1.39x
Why The on-pace style matches a slow race, and he's got the kind of profile that sits in the right lane and attacks.
2. Light The Night (No.6) — $2.45 / $1.45 🏆 2ND
Bet Tracked
Prob 33.1% | Place: 69.0% | Value: 0.87x
Why Only two places paid in a field this size, and skinny place divvies make savers a mug's game — this is a win-only race. Tracked, not staked.
3. Jacks On Ice (No.4) — $6.60 / $2.55 🏆 UNPLACED
Bet Tracked
Prob 14.8% | Place: 34.1% | Value: 1.12x
Why This one can run on for a place if the race flow suits, especially with a slow build.
Roughie: Teardrop Rotation (No.7) — $11.50 / $4.00 🏆 4TH
Bet Tracked
Prob 4.8% | Place: 12.2% | Value: 0.81x
Why Roughie path is chaos late, interference or a pace wobble, then he sneaks into the finish.
Race type: Class 2 Handicap, 1000m
Map & tempo: Moderate pace, sprint pressure, get across early or you're paying for it late
Punty read: At 1000 on a Good 4 with the rail in, you want the horses that can hold a prime spot and not get checked. Tennessee Spirit and Madam Jeanette look like the main on-pace battlers, with Codename ready to take any gaps that appear.
Top 3 + Roughie ($15.00 pool)
1. Tennessee Spirit (No.3) — $3.90 / $1.62 🏆 WINNER
Bet $15.00 Win — ✓ Won, net +$43.50
Prob 29.9% | Place: 60.9% | Value: 1.07x
Why Maps to control the tempo in a sprint, and when the race stays honest he's the one to salute.
2. Madam Jeanette (No.8) — $4.25 / $1.80 🏆 2ND
Bet Tracked
Prob 24.6% | Place: 54.1% | Value: 1.17x
Why Only two places paid in a field this size, and skinny place divvies make savers a mug's game — this is a win-only race. Tracked, not staked.
3. Codename (No.2) — $5.35 / $1.95 🏆 5TH
Bet Tracked
Prob 15.6% | Place: 34.1% | Value: 0.94x
Why Good enough to run into the trifecta mix, but sprint class battles are savage and value is thin.
Roughie: Flirt (No.6) — $11.75 / $3.60 🏆 3RD
Bet Tracked
Prob 6.8% | Place: 17.3% | Value: 0.89x
Why Roughie works if the top two get tied up and she gets the run at the right moment.
Race type: Benchmark 78, 1956m
Map & tempo: Moderate pace into a longer grind, so you need a horse that can sustain
Punty read: This is where the fake staying races die. Cradle Of Jazz is the one I want in a longer journey, because the pace pressure profile suits and she can keep digging late. Guru Warrior is the main threat, especially if the speed softens.
Top 3 + Roughie ($10.50 pool)
1. Cradle Of Jazz (No.4) — $3.40 / $1.40 🏆 5TH
Bet $10.50 Win — ✗ Lost, net -$10.50
Prob 32.9% | Place: 69.0% | Value: 1.14x
Why She's the genuine runner in the set, drawn in where she can travel, and she should be there when the race gets serious.
2. Guru Warrior (No.2) — $4.15 / $1.57 🏆 3RD
Bet Tracked
Prob 23.8% | Place: 69.0% | Value: 1.25x
Why A real chance — but at $1.57 the place the numbers don't give me enough edge to insure with. Watching, not betting.
3. Giggenbach (No.6) — $3.55 / $1.45 🏆 WINNER
Bet Tracked
Prob 19.3% | Place: 66.4% | Value: 0.83x
Why Can fill a place if things fall his way, but value is off relative to what he's likely to do.
Roughie: Oxford Blue (No.3) — $9.20 / $2.45 🏆 9TH
Bet Tracked
Prob 6.4% | Place: 25.4% | Value: 0.81x
Why Roughie chance is a pace wobble, then he sneaks onto the back of the leaders and grinds through.
Race type: Restricted 64 Handicap, 1400m
Map & tempo: Moderate pace, so the speed is alive but you need class to keep it honest
Punty read: Bargain Boy at $2.81 is the sort of price where the map actually matters, not just faith. Zestiman and Expecto Patronum are the ones who can tack on for third, but if Bargain Boy holds his position, he'll be there at the line arguing like it owes someone money.
Top 3 + Roughie ($13.00 pool)
1. Bargain Boy (No.2) — $3.80 / $1.62 🏆 2ND
Bet $13.00 Win — ✗ Lost, net -$13.00
Prob 33.2% | Place: 69.0% | Value: 1.10x
Why Pace-friendly race, and he's the kind of runner that doesn't need luck to be competitive.
2. Expecto Patronum (No.3) — $7.75 / $2.40 🏆 4TH
Bet Tracked
Prob 12.8% | Place: 32.8% | Value: 1.16x
Why A real chance — but at $2.40 the place the numbers don't give me enough edge to insure with. Watching, not betting.
3. Zestiman (No.5) — $7.00 / $2.40 🏆 UNPLACED
Bet Tracked
Prob 11.8% | Place: 40.8% | Value: 1.15x
Why Can run on, but the priority is to bank the win side with Bargain Boy.
Roughie: Prestige Zerprise (No.9) — $9.50 / $2.65 🏆 WINNER
Bet Tracked
Prob 7.8% | Place: 28.4% | Value: 0.88x
Why If he gets a clean enough sit and the leaders hook up, he can be a value place swing.
Race type: Restricted 68 Handicap, 1556m
Map & tempo: Genuine Pace, this should be a proper run race with no room for dawdling
Punty read: Place leverage race means we take the winners who also look like they'll hit the money even if they don't win. Somewhere Soon should be right there, and Flying Brant is the other one that keeps running when the rest are slowing down.
Top 3 + Roughie ($10.50 pool)
1. Somewhere Soon (No.5) — $5.10 / $1.82 🏆 WINNER
Bet $10.50 Each Way ($5.25W + $5.25P) — ✓ Won, net +$25.83
Prob 25.3% | Place: 69.0% | Value: 1.17x
Why In a genuine run, he's got every chance to be in the contest early and keep that momentum late.
2. Flying Brant (No.1) — $5.05 / $1.72 🏆 4TH
Bet Tracked
Prob 19.9% | Place: 47.0% | Value: 1.18x
Why The top pick's each-way already covers the place angle here — doubling up is paying twice for the same insurance. Tracked instead.
3. Regal Ripper (No.3) — $3.05 / $1.40 🏆 UNPLACED
Bet Tracked
Prob 19.3% | Place: 69.0% | Value: 0.84x
Why Blinkers first time for him is the right move, but he's more of a saver runner than the anchor.
Roughie: No Mans Land (No.8) — $9.30 / $2.60 🏆 2ND
Bet Tracked
Prob 10.6% | Place: 36.6% | Value: 1.15x
Why If something stumbles on the way to the front, he can inherit position and get the run home for a big place.
Race type: Restricted 64 Handicap, 1400m
Map & tempo: Slow pace, so it's all about who can turn up and who can take the sit without losing momentum
Punty read: Chica Astuta is the one to build around. Even though she's on the back side profile on paper, she's class enough to hit the gaps and punch through without needing miracles. Boolcunda Dawn and Diversity fill the place and quinella roles if the race breaks a certain way.
Top 3 + Roughie ($13.00 pool)
★ PUNTY'S PICK 1. Chica Astuta (No.9) — $3.35 / $1.57 🏆 2ND
Bet $13.00 Win — ✗ Lost, net -$13.00
Prob 35.4% | Place: 69.0% | Value: 1.13x
Why She's the most likely to take control when it matters, and this tempo suits her more than the "wait and hope" brigade.
2. Boolcunda Dawn (No.2) — $6.75 / $2.30 🏆 7TH
Bet Tracked
Prob 18.7% | Place: 56.2% | Value: 1.18x
Why A real chance — but at $2.30 the place the numbers don't give me enough edge to insure with. Watching, not betting.
3. Diversity (No.1) — $5.15 / $1.85 🏆 WINNER
Bet Tracked
Prob 16.9% | Place: 48.0% | Value: 1.05x
Why Dead-set value for the trip, but I'm keeping the money on the clearest win route.
Roughie: Trantoro (No.8) — $9.75 / $2.80 🏆 5TH
Bet Tracked
Prob 8.1% | Place: 29.0% | Value: 0.95x
Why Roughie works if the pace collapses and he can run onto the bridle.
Race type: Benchmark 72, 1400m
Map & tempo: Genuine pace, so midfield battles matter, don't overcommit to the back markers
Punty read: I'm treating this as a place-play construction because Mansiere is the value mover in the frame. Nicish can win, sure, but Mansiere has the "hit the money even if it's not perfect" profile.
Top 3 + Roughie ($13.00 pool)
1. Nicish (No.2) — $3.05 / $1.45 🏆 UNPLACED
Bet $13.00 Win — ✗ Lost, net -$13.00
Prob 29.5% | Place: 69.0% | Value: 0.96x
Why He's got the best overall engine in a race where speed should hold, and he's drawn close enough to factor.
2. Mansiere (No.8) — $5.35 / $1.95 🏆 3RD
Bet Tracked
Prob 17.3% | Place: 53.8% | Value: 1.44x
Why A real chance — but at $1.95 the place the numbers don't give me enough edge to insure with. Watching, not betting.
3. Dirty Old Town (No.4) — $5.60 / $1.90 🏆 WINNER
Bet Tracked
Prob 16.4% | Place: 53.8% | Value: 0.97x
Why Solid run-on type, but I'm not letting him steal the whole ticket when he's a bit more "good run" than "win".
Roughie: Hard Prince (No.5) — $10.50 / $2.80 🏆 UNPLACED
Bet Tracked
Prob 7.2% | Place: 25.7% | Value: 1.05x
Why Roughie path is a pace burn, then he comes at the right time with a clear lane.
That's the ticket as I struck it — the legs below are exactly what ran, no rewriting history.
Smart: 6,5,4,11 / 6,1,4 / 3,8,2 / 4,2,6,5 (144 combos x $0.14 = $20.00) -- 14% flexi

Selections
Punty's Early Mail
Rightio Loose Units, Morphettville Parks under a Sunny sky, Good 4, rail tucked in a touch, and that 21km/h headwind up the straight. Translation, if you're bolted on pace you'll be tough to run down, and if you're a late swooper you better hope your horse has fireworks, not just vibes. Let's print some tickets, stop overthinking, and go a decent bit of stupid.
MEET SNAPSHOT
Track: Morphettville Parks, 1200-1956m card
Rail: 3m 1000m, Winning Post
Official going: Good 4 (expected to play Speed vs Stamina showdown)
Weather: Sunny, 24°C, gusts around 29.6km/h, watch for wind cutting up the straight like it's got beef with your finishing burst
Early lane guess: Lock in leaders early, then protect any runner that can stalk without getting mown down
Tempo profile: Pace genuine to moderate, with on-pace runners getting first crack and closers needing a clean lane
Jockeys to follow:
Jordyn Weatherley: flies under the radar when she gets a clean run, and she's on key pace horses all day
Todd Pannell: the kind of rider who can save ground, then pounce when everyone else is still thinking
Alysha Warren: sharp, economical, and when she jumps on a live horse at Morphettville Parks, they usually mean business
Stables to respect:
Stephen Theodore (3 runners): can turn up winners when the map suits and the market starts talking
S P Gower (2 runners): gets them travelling, then lets them do the finishing when there's pace on
Phillip & Tommy Stokes (3 runners): consistent at this level, and they know how to have runners ready without drama
Punty's take:
Today's track is Good 4, the rail's in, and the wind is doing everyone's head in up the straight. So the script is pretty simple. If you're on pace, you're doing all the work early, then you've got the right to hang on for the win. If you're off the speed, you need two things, real acceleration and a rider who gets clear in time. Anyone planning to "hope" late in this headwind is basically writing fan fiction.
My spine of the day is built around the obvious engines, but I'm not pretending every favourite is value. Race 3 and Race 6 have that "right horse, wrong price" energy, Race 8 looks like the front-runner model of the universe, and Race 1 has enough chaos that you can play the in-form pace horse without turning it into a prayer. We're hunting clean lanes, not fireworks for the sake of it.
What it means for you:
Bet like the wind is real, because it is. That means backing leaders and stalkers more often than you usually would, and paying attention to gear that sharpens the mind, blinkers, winkers, bits that help them concentrate. If you're going wide in exotics, do it because you've got a reason, not because you're bored on the couch.
Aggression plan is simple. Go hard on the Big 3 winners across the card, then in the race previews below you'll see where I'd spread a bit wider in the Roughie slot, and where I'd keep it tight and let the race shape do the heavy lifting. If one horse gets stuck wide, or gets held up, that's your cue to respect the others that were always going to get a run.
