R1
Catanach's Jewellers Mdn Plate
1400m · Maiden; · 14:20
✓ WON +$9 Final

Race type: Maiden, 1400m
Map & tempo: Genuine Pace, Love Story is the leader (early) with Iommi also on pace, wind helps late runners keep going
Punty read: This one's set up for a front-runner story with genuine pace, so the cheap thrills are deserved early. Love Story looks like the most prepared runner to dictate the tempo, and the first-time tongue tie says they want him switched on and balanced from the jump. The Soft 7 plus wind up the straight usually drags leaders along just enough, then turns it into a battle for who can keep their engine alive late. Klocke is your "if the favourite has to work" danger, while Iommi is a live on-pacer who can steal a spot if the race strings out.

Top 3 + Roughie ($13.00 pool)

★ PUNTY'S PICK 1. Love Story (No.2) — $1.72 / $1.09 🏆 WINNER
Bet $13.00 Win — ✓ Won, net +$9.36
Prob 56.8% | Place: 70.0% | Value: 1.28x
Why Tongue tie first time to help him handle Randwick pressure, plus he's built for a lead-and-keep-breathing run on Soft 7.

2. Klocke (No.6) — $4.20 / $1.60 🏆 4TH
Bet Tracked
Prob 22.7% | Place: 70.0% | Value: 0.94x
Why A real chance — but at $1.60 the place the numbers don't give me enough edge to insure with. Watching, not betting.

3. Iommi (No.5) — $7.00 / $2.05 🏆 5TH
Bet Tracked
Prob 10.1% | Place: 55.0% | Value: 0.69x
Why Theon-pacer angle is real, but for me he needs a bit more than this to win, especially with the favourite setting up.

Roughie: Iminastate (No.4) — $19.00 / $2.65 🏆 2ND
Bet Tracked
Prob 3.6% | Place: 29.3% | Value: 0.47x
Why He's the classic "if it falls apart" type, but I'm not burning cash on a perfect storm in a maiden.

✓ WON +$22 Final

Race type: Benchmark 64, 1250m
Map & tempo: Moderate Pace with Sky Deck and Sphere disadvantaged on map, Punxsutawney Phil MIDFIELD
Punty read: This is a race where you want the horse that can get the right position without getting dragged into doing too much early. Punxsutawney Phil looks the safest on the map, and when a horse can win on Soft without needing a hero ride, that's the boring money you actually need. Blitzgal is your alternate if the race opens up, Rumdabar is there to run on smartly, and Sphere is the one that can grind up if the inside lane gives him the right bounce.

Top 3 + Roughie ($15.00 pool)

★ PUNTY'S PICK 1. Punxsutawney Phil (No.4) — $2.45 / $1.37 🏆 WINNER
Bet $15.00 Win — ✓ Won, net +$21.75
Prob 37.3% | Place: 58.9% | Value: 0.99x
Why He's got the best "trip guarantee" vibe here, can handle Soft, and the price is still fair enough to back confidently.

2. Blitzgal (No.5) — $5.50 / $2.15 🏆 UNPLACED
Bet Tracked
Prob 21.6% | Place: 46.1% | Value: 1.10x
Why Only two places paid in a field this size, and skinny place divvies make savers a mug's game — this is a win-only race. Tracked, not staked.

3. Rumdabar (No.9) — $7.50 / $2.60 🏆 4TH
Bet Tracked
Prob 12.2% | Place: 32.7% | Value: 0.96x
Why He can sneak into it late, but I'm respecting how thin place dividends get with only two places paid.

Roughie: Sky Deck (No.7) — $13.00 / $3.80 🏆 3RD
Bet Tracked
Prob 6.4% | Place: 21.0% | Value: 1.01x
Why It's a bounce-back or nothing type, and the bet plan is already covering the smarter lanes.

✓ WON +$27 Final

Race type: Benchmark 78, 1400m
Map & tempo: Moderate Pace, Alabama Fox is MIDFIELD with early pressure up front, Beside The Ocean is BACKMARKER
Punty read: This is a Benchmark 78 where the speed might be on, but the finish is still a full-contact sport. Alabama Fox has the draw to get involved and the form reads like he's close enough to win with the right timing. Beside The Ocean looks like a legitimate threat if he gets room late, and Maluku is the sort that can slot in and keep plugging away. I'm leaving the longshots alone unless the race completely collapses into chaos.

Top 3 + Roughie ($15.00 pool)

1. Alabama Fox (No.3) — $2.80 / $1.35 🏆 WINNER
Bet $15.00 Win — ✓ Won, net +$27.00
Prob 31.1% | Place: 46.1% | Value: 1.12x
Why He's got that "can hit the line" profile and the way this race is paced, he should get the right chance to wind up.

2. Beside The Ocean (No.2) — $3.30 / $1.65 🏆 6TH
Bet Tracked
Prob 27.5% | Place: 46.1% | Value: 1.09x

Prob 1.6% | Place: 5.0% | Value: 0.95x

✗ MISS -$1 Final

Race type: Benchmark 72, 1800m
Map & tempo: Moderate Pace with a classic grind, Leica Storm and Standard Deviation are on pace types
Punty read: On Soft 7 at 1800m, this is where you can feel the race settle into rhythm, then get nasty late. Botanical Boy has the class signal and he maps to get into the race, even if it's from behind early. Leica Storm is right there with the on pace gear, and Standard Deviation sits mid-pack looking like the type who can press once others do the hard work. The danger is sneaky, it's Sneaky Choice, and if you're watching the clock, you'll see why.

Top 3 + Roughie ($7.50 pool)

1. Botanical Boy (No.1) — $4.80 / $1.82 🏆 3RD
Bet $7.50 Each Way ($3.75W + $3.75P) — Cashed, net -$0.67
Prob 28.3% | Place: 70.0% | Value: 1.28x
Why He looks built for this Soft 7 stamina test, and the way he's finishing says he's not turning up just to make up the numbers.

2. Standard Deviation (No.6) — $3.70 / $1.62 🏆 4TH
Bet Tracked
Prob 19.4% | Place: 60.0% | Value: 0.81x
Why The top pick's each-way already covers the place angle here — doubling up is paying twice for the same insurance. Tracked instead.

3. Leica Storm (No.4) — $4.40 / $1.72 🏆 2ND
Bet Tracked
Prob 18.2% | Place: 70.0% | Value: 0.94x

Prob 5.7% | Place: 25.3% | Value: 0.66x

✗ MISS -$12 Final

Race type: Benchmark 78, 1250m
Map & tempo: Moderate Pace, Uzziah and Lightning Glory can lead, Money Team is midfield, Monte Kate is on pace
Punty read: Sprinting into a Soft 7 at 1250m is all about who controls the breathing and who stays balanced under pressure. Lightning Glory is the speed anchor and Monte Kate is the value-looking on-pacer who gets into the right spot without getting swallowed. Money Team is there for the exact reason you back good types in wet: he's got the form to keep grinding. If Who But Roo has a big run in him, he's going to need the entire race to fall open like a movie plot twist.

Top 3 + Roughie ($12.00 pool)

1. Monte Kate (No.1) — $5.50 / $2.05 🏆 UNPLACED
Bet $12.00 Win — ✗ Lost, net -$12.00
Prob 26.3% | Place: 46.1% | Value: 1.39x

✓ WON +$38 Final

Race type: Benchmark 78, 1400m
Map & tempo: Moderate Pace with Agent Zero and True To Form on pace, Anythink Goes in midfield
Punty read: This is where you want the horse that can sit in the right rhythm, then let the wind help your late kick. True To Form looks like he's done the work to win at this level, and the synthetic hoof filler first time is the sort of move that says connections want them to handle the surface and go longer. Agent Zero can be a menace if he gets rolling early, and Octa De Lago is the one to fear late when he finds clear air.

Top 3 + Roughie ($15.00 pool)

★ PUNTY'S PICK 1. True To Form (No.2) — $3.50 / $1.52 🏆 WINNER
Bet $15.00 Win — ✓ Won, net +$37.50
Prob 35.5% | Place: 46.1% | Value: 1.14x
Why Pace profile fits, gear change is a surface-helper, and he's the one I want on my side when the straight starts swinging.

2. Octa De Lago (No.4) — $5.00 / $1.75 🏆 4TH
Bet Tracked
Prob 20.6% | Place: 46.1% | Value: 0.80x

Bet Tracked
Prob 10.0% | Place: 24.4% | Value: 1.15x

✗ MISS -$10 Final

Race type: Benchmark 72, 1250m
Map & tempo: Moderate Pace, Our Huntress is pace advantaged but is a big drift risk, Scenic Point midfields in the run map
Punty read: This is a speed and position race in the wet where the straight breeze can make midfield runners look like they were waiting their whole lives to sprint. Scenic Point maps well enough to get the right trip, and the price says the market is treating him like a likely also-ran. Island Dec is the one for a forward punch if the tempo isn't too hot, Shotgun Bella is in the mix too with on pace intent. Reflect is the sort that can run on, but you're paying for the promise.

Top 3 + Roughie ($10.50 pool)

Punty's Early Mail

Rightio Loose Units, Randwick on a Soft 7 with a wind swing strong enough to make your car's GPS cry, plus a heap of scratchings. If you love a race where the straight decides who's heart rate is still normal, you're in the right joint.

MEET SNAPSHOT

Track: Randwick-Kensington, Middle Distance card
Rail: True
Official going: Soft 7 (expected to play closer than you'd think, with runners able to sustain late bursts)
Weather: Shower or two. Becoming windy, 17°C, humidity 49%, wind 31km/h SSW (watch for gusts up around 46km/h, it can turn a race into a finish-line brawl)
Early lane guess: Midfield to outside, then hunt the last 200m hard
Tempo profile: Genuine to moderate across the day, wind helps closers hold their run, but leaders still get their say on the right lanes
Jockeys to follow:
Adam Hyeronimus: big boots, and he's got key rides sitting right on the map in the best races
James Mc Donald: smooth operator with a couple of chances where you want a timing ride
Chad Schofield: shows up when the race sets up for them, especially when they can get breathing room early
Stables to respect:
C J Waller (8 runners): he's throwing plenty at the wall today, and he's got the type that can win without needing a miracle
Brad Widdup (3 runners): watch his horses when the tempo settles, they often do their best work once the race starts making sense
J G Sargent (3 runners): can find a place finish in tricky conditions, and sometimes turns that into more than a place pot

Punty's take:

This meeting's got Soft 7 vibes, but it's not a mud bath slog. The wind is the real story. With a tailwind up the straight, horses that can keep finding running late are way closer to the winners than they usually are. So yeah, you still want to be near the speed early, but you do not want to be trapped in a sticky pocket when the straight hits, because the finish is getting cooked.

In Race 1 it's a maiden where the pace is genuine and the front runner types can make it expensive. Love Story looks like the "get it done early, then keep breathing" type with first time tongue tie doing the job. Around it, Klocke and Iommi are the ones that can pick up the pieces if the favourite runs into traffic or just gets done for a moment.

By Race 6, we're into a proper Benchmark 78 where the race shape usually rewards class plus a clean trip. True To Form looks like the one that can sit in the right rhythm and pounce when others are still trying to work out what they're doing.

What it means for you:

You're not here to overthink Soft 7. You're here to back the horses that get the right run, then take the price that offers the cleanest path. I'm playing a "big three win-or-bust, then multi spine" approach today, because the straight with this wind is where the roulette wheel spins hardest.
