Punty's Punts
Race type: Maiden, 1200m
Map & tempo: Genuine pace, Double Vision setting the rhythm
Punty read:
Double Vision is the early controller and likely tries to make the race pay to keep up. Love Story has the best blend of map and market support for a maiden on Soft, and the gear tweak (ear muffs only pre-race) isn't screaming for attention. Mystical and Movie Star are your "park and pounce" threats, but this is the kind of short sprint where being a touch too far off can cost you a length you can't get back in the last 100m.
Top 3 + Roughie ($15.00 pool)
★ PUNTY'S PICK 1. Love Story (No.2) — $2.92 / $1.40 🏆 2ND
Bet $15.00 Win — ✗ Lost, net -$15.00
Prob 32.0% | Place: 70.0% | Value: 0.97x
Why The map fits the tempo, and with the market getting behind it, it's not just a "show up" runner.
2. Mystical (No.7) — $6.75 / $2.25 🏆 5TH
Bet Tracked
Prob 13.7% | Place: 46.1% | Value: 0.70x
Why A real chance — but at $2.25 the place the numbers don't give me enough edge to insure with. Watching, not betting.
3. Double Vision (No.1) — $6.75 / $1.95 🏆 4TH
Bet Tracked
Prob 13.2% | Place: 46.1% | Value: 0.55x
Why Leading types can be gold at Soft 5, but at this price it's more "dangerous runner" than "best value".
Roughie: Shahaameh (No.9) — $12.25 / $2.75 🏆 3RD
Bet Tracked
Prob 9.2% | Place: 36.3% | Value: 1.16x
Why Needs the right race shape, but if the leaders kick and stall, it's the sort of one who can sneak into it off a patient run.
Race type: Handicap (Bm68), 1200m
Map & tempo: Genuine pace, Blessed Eagle a leading force
Punty read:
Blessed Eagle looks like the pace glue, and if it gets a clear run early, it can set the standard. Peyton is live enough but the value sits with the ones that can keep their ground and not get buried as the field scrambles in the wet. Reachin' Out and Harrybegood are the classic "get a good sit" threats, while Sky Deck and Phillip Island are the ones who can make it a race if they jump cleanly and stay in rhythm.
Top 3 + Roughie ($12.50 pool)
1. Blessed Eagle (No.3) — $6.10 / $2.25 🏆 WINNER
Bet $12.50 Each Way ($6.25W + $6.25P) — ✓ Won, net +$39.69
Prob 26.5% | Place: 70.0% | Value: 1.61x
Why Market likes it for a reason, and the tempo fit is about as clean as you'll get on a short Soft 5 sprint.
2. Peyton (No.6) — $2.35 / $1.30 SCR
Bet Tracked
Prob 16.0% | Place: 46.1% | Value: 0.43x
Why The top pick's each-way already covers the place angle here — doubling up is paying twice for the same insurance. Tracked instead.
3. Reachin' Out (No.7) — $7.05 / $2.20 🏆 4TH
Bet Tracked
Prob 13.2% | Place: 46.1% | Value: 1.08x
Why Gets into the right rhythm under a genuine pace, and if traffic opens it can pop.
Roughie: Harrybegood (No.10) — $10.10 / $3.10 🏆 3RD
Bet Tracked
Prob 8.6% | Place: 32.7% | Value: 1.12x
Why Big place chances with upside if the race breaks late. If it gets rolling at the right time, it's not just collecting.
Race type: Handicap, 2140m
Map & tempo: Slow pace, tactical formation
Punty read:
This is the kind of staying race where nobody wants to be the idiot doing the work for free. Grafton Street is the one with the "keep grinding and hit through the gaps" profile, and Pierro Lad sits in the exact zone where it can be awkward late if they're still strung out.
My Charm is a threat if it's given a run to build momentum, and Supreme Sovereign is the steady sort that can surprise in these windless, slow-tempo races. Lugarno is your "sneaky for a slice" type when the race turns into a patience test.
Top 3 + Roughie ($7.50 pool)
1. Grafton Street (No.5) — $5.10 / $1.90 🏆 WINNER
Bet $7.50 Each Way ($3.75W + $3.75P) — ✓ Won, net +$18.75
Prob 21.6% | Place: 62.5% | Value: 1.22x
Why It's the late-run grinder that suits Soft staying conditions, and the distance is long enough for patience to pay.
2. Pierro Lad (No.2) — $4.30 / $1.75 🏆 2ND
Bet Tracked
Prob 19.8% | Place: 54.0% | Value: 1.02x
Why The top pick's each-way already covers the place angle here — doubling up is paying twice for the same insurance. Tracked instead.
3. My Charm (No.6) — $6.00 / $1.95 🏆 4TH
Bet Tracked
Prob 15.6% | Place: 46.1% | Value: 1.09x
Why Strong place credentials and the wet stamina angle helps, but not quite enough to go beyond "support".
Roughie: Lugarno (No.8) — $14.25 / $3.10 🏆 5TH
Bet Tracked
Prob 6.4% | Place: 28.0% | Value: 1.06x
Why Needs everything to fall in line, but in slow-tempo races, the one that keeps finding the line can absolutely pinch a spot.
Race type: Handicap, 1600m
Map & tempo: Moderate pace, tempo pressure with a few pace dogs
Punty read:
Samarelle looks like the main bet through the class and the map, but the interesting part is Sneaky Choice. This race type on Soft is often about who can get position and then take the right path when the leaders start to tire.
Storm Season is also right there because it's showing the right "win when the timing works" profile. Pier Pressure and Long Legs can fill a spot if the race gets a bit surgical, but Snea ky Choice feels like the value play that gives you the best odds on how the race might actually run.
Top 3 + Roughie ($10.50 pool)
1. Samarelle (No.7) — $3.15 / $1.40 🏆 WINNER
Bet $10.50 Win — ✓ Won, net +$22.57
Prob 25.3% | Place: 58.4% | Value: 0.91x
Why Strong place profile and a good chance to be in the first half of the race. This is where the better horse usually grinds.
2. Sneaky Choice (No.9) — $6.75 / $2.10 🏆 5TH
Bet Tracked
Prob 18.3% | Place: 46.1% | Value: 1.36x
Why A real chance — but at $2.10 the place the numbers don't give me enough edge to insure with. Watching, not betting.
3. Storm Season (No.4) — $5.75 / $1.80 🏆 2ND
Bet Tracked
Prob 14.2% | Place: 46.1% | Value: 0.93x
Why Can be dangerous late, but I'm leaning into the value and the stronger win profile.
Roughie: Canny Queen (No.2) — $18.00 / $3.70 🏆 7TH
Bet Tracked
Prob 2.6% | Place: 13.3% | Value: 0.47x
Why Long odds for a small win chance, but if the pace collapses and it gets momentum, it's not a total throwaway.
Race type: Handicap, 1600m
Map & tempo: Moderate pace, midfield movement with timing required
Punty read:
Botanical Boy is your main speed and class indicator, and Cobra Club is a real threat if it can settle and keep working. Cuban Cigar is the value angle that can make the race about the last 300m if it gets the right run.
Leica Storm and Stallone are the "keep an eye on them" types in a wet-track race, because 1600m Soft is where a good action and patience turns into money. If the race gets messy, a backmarker with acceleration can ruin your clean theories.
Top 3 + Roughie ($10.50 pool)
1. Botanical Boy (No.3) — $3.80 / $1.62 🏆 WINNER
Bet $10.50 Win — ✓ Won, net +$29.40
Prob 23.3% | Place: 53.7% | Value: 0.97x
Why It's the best blend of ability and trip, and the market is treating it seriously.
2. Cobra Club (No.7) — $4.65 / $1.80 🏆 UNPLACED
Bet Tracked
Prob 16.8% | Place: 46.1% | Value: 0.96x
Why A real chance — but at $1.80 the place the numbers don't give me enough edge to insure with. Watching, not betting.
3. Cuban Cigar (No.2) — $10.30 / $3.10 🏆 3RD
Bet Tracked
Prob 13.6% | Place: 38.9% | Value: 1.26x
Why Value is real if it's kept out of trouble early and gets the lane to run through the line.
Roughie: Stallone (No.10) — $9.75 / $2.70 🏆 UNPLACED
Bet Tracked
Prob 8.6% | Place: 32.7% | Value: 0.97x
Why Can sneak a piece if the race gets messy and the tempo opens up late.
Race type: Handicap, 1300m
Map & tempo: Moderate pace, short sprint where positions matter
Punty read:
This is the race where Alabama Fox looks like it can make the whole day feel easier. Bartolf is the one that adds real depth, and Call Me Gorgeous is the kind of favourite you respect, even if it's not my value angle.
If this turns into a quick grind, Alabama Fox's profile is perfect for it. If it turns into a tactical struggle, Bartolf is the one who can still tack onto the right moment and keep going.
Top 3 + Roughie ($10.50 pool)
1. Alabama Fox (No.11) — $3.75 / $1.65 🏆 2ND
Bet $10.50 Each Way ($5.25W + $5.25P) — Cashed, net -$1.84
Prob 31.2% | Place: 70.0% | Value: 1.27x
Why The wet-and-short profile fits like it was tailored. If it gets a clean trip, it's winning or very close.
2. Bartolf (No.4) — $5.10 / $2.00 🏆 UNPLACED
Bet Tracked
Prob 21.1% | Place: 57.7% | Value: 1.43x
Why The top pick's each-way already covers the place angle here — doubling up is paying twice for the same insurance. Tracked instead.
3. Call Me Gorgeous (No.6) — $3.25 / $1.40 🏆 UNPLACED
Bet Tracked
Prob 16.5% | Place: 46.1% | Value: 0.63x
Why Solid, but not my value, and I don't want to pay short odds when the value is sitting right next door.
Roughie: Cafe Au Lait (No.13) — $7.50 / $2.50 🏆 UNPLACED
Bet Tracked
Prob 8.9% | Place: 34.1% | Value: 0.99x
Why Needs timing and luck. If the leaders get bogged, it can run on, but it's not the safest cash.
Race type: Handicap, 1200m
Map & tempo: Genuine pace, leaders push and the straight decides
Punty read:
Pin Up Sheila is the kind of runner you back when you want the race won on the map, not after the fact. Agatha has a good profile for getting into the fight, and Little Iris is there to make sure you don't get cleaned out if the race turns into a sprint-for-places.
Maluku and Scillato are the "if it all goes wrong for the favourite, here's your chaos" options, but Pin Up Sheila and Little Iris feel like the ones who can still hold their form through the wet.
Top 3 + Roughie ($15.00 pool)
1. Pin Up Sheila (No.14) — $4.00 / $1.75 🏆 6TH
Bet $15.00 Win — ✗ Lost, net -$15.00
Prob 29.1% | Place: 70.0% | Value: 1.22x
Why Strong win profile with a track-ready action and market support. This is the type you want to be on when the pace is real.
2. Agatha (No.10) — $4.50 / $1.85 🏆 3RD
Bet Tracked
Prob 17.4% | Place: 46.1% | Value: 0.75x
Why A real chance — but at $1.85 the place the numbers don't give me enough edge to insure with. Watching, not betting.
3. Little Iris (No.6) — $7.30 / $2.35 🏆 9TH
Bet Tracked
Prob 14.9% | Place: 46.1% | Value: 1.26x
Why Real value if it finds a crack, and on Soft 5 it can keep running past tired horses.
Roughie: Maluku (No.4) — $11.50 / $3.90 🏆 WINNER
Bet Tracked
Prob 6.6% | Place: 28.0% | Value: 1.04x
Why Longer odds with a slimmer win path, but if the leaders weaken early, it can still run on for a cheeky slice.
That's the ticket as I struck it — the legs below are exactly what ran, no rewriting history.
Smart: 7,9,4 / 3,7,2,10 / 11,4,2,6 / 14,10,6,4 (192 combos x $0.10 = $20.00) -- 10% flexi
The day's multi leans on three win legs across the card.
1 - Love Story (Race 1, No.2)✗ — $2.39
2 - Alabama Fox (Race 6, No.11)✗ — $3.45
3 - Pin Up Sheila (Race 7, No.14)✗ — $3.62
Meeting Stats
Selections
Punty's Early Mail
Rightio Loose Units, Warwick Farm on a Soft 5 with the rail living its best life (+5m to 1000m, +3m remainder) and the rain flirting like it's got somewhere better to be. This is one of those meetings where the lead can carry, then the track goes all slippery and starts refunding confidence for free. Beautiful.
You've got genuine speed on the card early (Race 1 and Race 2 in particular), but with showers looming through the day, you want runners who handle kickback and can keep grinding when the straight turns into a bog. The lanes look clean-ish for the Quaddie, but once you get to Races 6 and 7, you'd better believe the undercooked chances get loud.
Now, here's my big spine for the day, then we'll go race-by-race like we're heckling the TV while pretending we're classy at the TAB.
MEET SNAPSHOT
Track: Soft 5, 1200m-2140m card
Rail: +5m 1000m to Winning Post, +3m Remainder
Official going: Soft 5 (expected to play Rain-Helper, Stamina-Plus, On-the-Map)
Weather: Shower or two, 19°C, humidity 80%, wind 7km/h WNW (watch for "softening turns" and late gusts)
Early lane guess: Follow the speed, but protect the runners with wet-track gears
Tempo profile: Mixed early tempo, then the staying types (Race 3) turn it into a tactical slog
Jockeys to follow:
Tim Clark: Gets them travelling and staying switched on in the wet conditions
James McDonald: If he's on a live one, they usually don't just "run", they finish off
Tommy Berry: Strong read on pace and timing, especially when the track bites
Stables to respect:
C J Waller (10 runners): Consistent with horses that need to handle give in the ground
G Waterhouse & A Bott (7 runners): Loves a speed-assisted tempo and clean positioning into the straight
Michael Freedman (4 runners): Can place their runners exactly where the race falls apart a bit
Punty's take:
Warwick Farm today feels like the type of card where the first two races tell you what the track's doing. If the early leaders hold on around the bend, you back the on-pacers and stalkers. If the rain escalates and the straight turns to treacle, you start leaning into the ones that have shown they can keep a rhythm under pressure, not just run in clean air.
Race 1 is a classic maiden where the rail + soft conditions can expose anything that lacks a real response. Love Story is getting the respect, but I still like how the race is shaping for forward movement and a smooth run. Then Race 2 is where you see if the "real class" from this meet shows up, with Blessed Eagle looking like the tempo glue.
By the time we hit the Quaddie stretch, Race 6 and Race 7 decide whether you're celebrating responsibly or quietly filing your losses under "education". Alabama Fox is the sort of horse you want on a day where the track rewards class and keeps rewarding. Then Pin Up Sheila in Race 7 is the spark plug that can still win even if the race gets messy.
What it means for you:
Be aggressive early where speed is genuine. You don't need to overcomplicate Race 1 and Race 2, you just need to pick the ones that can either control or sit parked close and not get bogged. Wet-track punting is about rhythm. If a horse is forced wide, or can't get traction on the ground, you watch it lose momentum and suddenly it's just "there", not dangerous.
For the later races, think "value via place or via proven finishing". That's why the Quaddie lane is built to include the obvious three-in-one chances in R6 and R7, while Race 4 and Race 5 stay wider because those fields are chaos machines with a stopwatch.
Now let's get stuck into the actual race-by-race, no fluff, just outcomes with a grin.
