Punty's Punts
Race type: Maiden, 1200m
Map & tempo: Genuine Pace, leaders on pace, Pulsating and friends should be travelling handily
Punty read:
Small field, so the race is basically a chessboard with legs. Little Khan (No.5) is the appointed leader type, but the real danger is Pulsating, she's got the on-pace map and she's been hitting the mark in shorter bursts. Soft 6 also makes "getting a run" matter more, because traction issues punish horses stuck too far back. Proviseur (No.4) has the right kind of form profile to slot in, but with only two place-paying slots, I'm focused on the one who can win from the right part of the track.
Top 3 + Roughie ($15.00 pool)
★ PUNTY'S PICK 1. Pulsating (No.3) — $2.15 / $1.22 🏆 2ND
Bet $15.00 Win — ✗ Lost, net -$15.00
Prob 56.1% | Place: 70.0% | Value: 1.62x
Why On-pace map, clean run style for Soft 6, and she's the one that looks like she can keep the momentum.
2. Proviseur (No.4) — $3.20 / $1.62 🏆 WINNER
Bet Tracked
Prob 20.5% | Place: 46.1% | Value: 0.66x
Why Only two places paid in a field this size, and skinny place divvies make savers a mug's game — this is a win-only race. Tracked, not staked.
3. Little Khan (No.5) — $3.10 / $1.60 🏆 4TH
Bet Tracked
Prob 16.2% | Place: 46.1% | Value: 0.51x
Why Hard to go past Pulsating if he runs his race, and there's not enough "place cushion" in this one.
Roughie: Mean Magic (No.9) — $23.00 / $4.50 🏆 UNPLACED
Bet Tracked
Prob 3.5% | Place: 16.7% | Value: 0.82x
Why Roughie path is real only if the pace collapses and she lands a dream run, in a 6-runner setup that's a big ask.
Race type: Maiden, 1100m
Map & tempo: Moderate Pace, midfield shooters need luck, Radomir's in a spot to control it
Punty read:
This one's about who can keep the momentum through the first half and not get stuck in the soft patches. Radomir is the clear "do something now" runner, and his market confidence says he's the one they want near the action. Bettor reality check, Soft 6 sprints can turn into a slip-n-slide where a few bad positions equal dead chances, so I'm keeping the base on the runner with the cleanest tactical route and then respecting that the second tier can run you into a good exacta or trifecta if the favourite drifts late.
Top 3 + Roughie ($15.00 pool)
★ PUNTY'S PICK 1. Radomir (No.3) — $2.45 / $1.22 🏆 5TH
Bet $15.00 Win — ✗ Lost, net -$15.00
Prob 40.5% | Place: 70.0% | Value: 1.16x
Why He's the class engine in a sprint, and the map has him set to be in the right part of the race early.
2. Wheeler Dealer (No.5) — $4.80 / $1.72 🏆 2ND
Bet Tracked
Prob 14.2% | Place: 53.6% | Value: 0.82x
Why A real chance — but at $1.72 the place the numbers don't give me enough edge to insure with. Watching, not betting.
3. Betty's Boy (No.2) — $5.50 / $1.72 🏆 7TH
Bet Tracked
Prob 11.2% | Place: 46.1% | Value: 0.41x
Why Gear change helps, but at this stage she's more "value saver" than "proper play" for me.
Roughie: Rattlesnakewhiskey (No.4) — $9.60 / $2.45 🏆 3RD
Bet Tracked
Prob 8.2% | Place: 34.1% | Value: 0.67x
Why If she finds a sweet lane from midfield and the leaders skid, she can run on, but she's not the one I want carrying my whole day.
Race type: Open, 1200m
Map & tempo: Genuine Pace, small field, Metalcraft and Saraqael likely in the mix early
Punty read:
Four runners is small enough that excuses become expensive. Metalcraft is the headline, but here's the thing, in a small Open field on Soft 6, the leader or the near-leader usually gets every chance to keep control. Metalcraft has the leader map and he's been putting wins together on wet surfaces. Saraqael is the danger for boxing runners, she's been doing the right things in softer conditions too. Tizso Fab and Sir Rocket both need the race to fall their way, and on a Soft track you can get run-on chaos, sure, but you still need position.
Top 3 + Roughie ($10.50 pool)
★ PUNTY'S PICK 1. Metalcraft (No.4) — $1.60 🏆 WINNER
Bet $10.50 Win — ✓ Won, net +$6.30
Prob 58.6% | Place: 2.2% | Value: 1.12x
Why He's built for this, Soft 6 form and a leader's map in a tiny field, that combination is usually death.
2. Saraqael (No.6) — $2.60 🏆 2ND
Bet Tracked
Prob 30.7% | Place: 2.2% | Value: 0.95x
Why A real chance — but at that price the place the numbers don't give me enough edge to insure with. Watching, not betting.
3. Tizso Fab (No.3) — $10.00 🏆 4TH
Bet Tracked
Prob 5.6% | Place: 2.2% | Value: 0.66x
Why Needs a massive turn of events, and I'll pass with my win exposure capped.
Roughie: Sir Rocket (No.5) — $14.00 🏆 3RD
Bet Tracked
Prob 5.1% | Place: 2.2% | Value: 1.25x
Why Roughie path is if the softer conditions and a clean run let him hit the line hard, but the field just isn't big enough for fantasy.
Race type: Class 2, 1600m
Map & tempo: Slow Pace, grinders suited, Remember The Boys should stalk with control
Punty read:
Slow 1600s on Soft 6 are where bad horses go to sleep and good ones start stroking the middle stages. Remember The Boys has the on-pace map and should get the cushy run, which means he can attack late without burning the tyres early. Red Feathers is the one I'd be nervous about, she's had the right form to run into placings when the race turns into a tactical slog. Out Of Aces is a live top four contender too, but for me, the race is built around whoever gets the best position through the slow tempo, and that's Remember The Boys.
Top 3 + Roughie ($15.00 pool)
★ PUNTY'S PICK 1. Remember The Boys (No.3) — $1.60 / $1.04 🏆 WINNER
Bet $15.00 Win — ✓ Won, net +$9.00
Prob 47.8% | Place: 70.0% | Value: 0.91x
Why Slow tempo keeps them together, and he's the sort who can win when he gets a clean, controlled run.
2. Red Feathers (No.6) — $4.40 / $1.70 🏆 4TH
Bet Tracked
Prob 22.2% | Place: 46.1% | Value: 1.15x
Why Only two places paid in a field this size, and skinny place divvies make savers a mug's game — this is a win-only race. Tracked, not staked.
3. Out Of Aces (No.1) — $4.40 / $1.70 🏆 2ND
Bet Tracked
Prob 17.4% | Place: 46.1% | Value: 0.92x
Why Could run a cheeky race, but Remember The Boys looks like the one who's built to dictate the finish.
Roughie: I Want It All (No.4) — $6.50 / $2.30 🏆 3RD
Bet Tracked
Prob 12.1% | Place: 32.7% | Value: 0.98x
Why She's got a chance if the race strings out and she finds the right lane, but I'm not leaning into that chaos with this setup.
Race type: Benchmark 65, 1050m
Map & tempo: Genuine Pace, quick formation, Triple Triple looks like the value place trigger
Punty read:
This is a speed race in Soft 6 clothing. On a wet 1050, positioning is king, and if you're trapped too far back you might still run third, but winning becomes harder because every stride costs more. Triple Triple is drawn with every chance to get involved and the gear changes suggest they're trying to solve whatever held him back last time. Thee Creek is the other one who can keep going, and Shipping Lane is a dangerous on-pace presence in this kind of race too.
Top 3 + Roughie ($15.00 pool)
1. Thee Creek (No.4) — $4.40 / $1.65 🏆 WINNER
Bet $15.00 Each Way ($7.50W + $7.50P) — ✓ Won, net +$30.38
Prob 23.9% | Place: 61.7% | Value: 1.28x
Why On pace and has shown he can hang on through the muddy 1050 grind.
2. Shipping Lane (No.8) — $5.00 / $1.80 🏆 4TH
Bet Tracked
Prob 19.5% | Place: 56.8% | Value: 1.20x
Why The top pick's each-way already covers the place angle here — doubling up is paying twice for the same insurance. Tracked instead.
3. Triple Triple (No.6) — $6.40 / $1.82 🏆 UNPLACED
Bet Tracked
Prob 18.8% | Place: 54.4% | Value: 1.44x
Why This is your upside place angle, value looks better here than chasing the win-only gamble.
Roughie: Better Than Words (No.10) — $23.00 / $3.80 🏆 UNPLACED
Bet Tracked
Prob 2.5% | Place: 16.7% | Value: 0.70x
Why He needs a miracle run and a split-second timing, and I'm saving my money for runners with a clearer path in the mud.
Race type: Restricted 55, 1050m
Map & tempo: Genuine Pace, Senzora and Barbarian King likely to be prominent, August Joe the value runner
Punty read:
This is where Soft 6 punishes overconfidence. Senzora's the market anchor and the map has her in the action, so she's the one who can win if the track holds her together. Barbarian King is a proper "stay in the hunt" type and could still run a bold race if the leaders get tired. August Joe is the one I like for value and place leverage, he's drawn to get into it without needing fairy dust.
Top 3 + Roughie ($15.00 pool)
1. Senzora (No.2) — $1.95 / $1.13 🏆 UNPLACED
Bet $15.00 Win — ✗ Lost, net -$15.00
Prob 29.9% | Place: 70.0% | Value: 0.72x
Why On-pace on Soft 6 is a great spot, and the gear changes scream "go time", not "let's learn".
2. Barbarian King (No.7) — $6.00 / $1.95 🏆 2ND
Bet Tracked
Prob 20.9% | Place: 53.6% | Value: 1.54x
Why A real chance — but at $1.95 the place the numbers don't give me enough edge to insure with. Watching, not betting.
3. August Joe (No.5) — $6.00 / $1.95 🏆 WINNER
Bet Tracked
Prob 17.2% | Place: 54.9% | Value: 1.26x
Why Price offers something, but the win exposure is already locked where I want it.
Roughie: Rum Rumble (No.1) — $11.00 / $2.80 🏆 UNPLACED
Bet Tracked
Prob 5.2% | Place: 24.4% | Value: 0.96x
Why Roughie path is a forward run and a leader wobble, but it's still a lot to ask from mid-field.
Race type: Benchmark 55, 1300m
Map & tempo: Slow Pace, placement and position matter, Next Stop Jupiter looks the main menace
Punty read:
Slow 1300s on Soft 6 are like a boring movie until the last ten minutes, then it all explodes. Next Stop Jupiter should be right there, and his on-pace map says he won't be struggling to find his rhythm. Bonewood has the map edge on paper too, but I'm taking the price and the race story with Next Stop Jupiter, because when tempo is slow, the horses with easy action and good position usually pay dividends. Adranos is the value place and might sneak into the finish if the leaders start to check.
Top 3 + Roughie ($10.50 pool)
1. Next Stop Jupiter (No.5) — $3.10 / $1.50 🏆 WINNER
Bet $10.50 Each Way ($5.25W + $5.25P) — ✓ Won, net +$13.65
Prob 33.8% | Place: 70.0% | Value: 1.30x
Why On-pace in a slow race is exactly where Soft 6 money likes to sit, and he's got the look of a genuine grinder.
2. Bonewood (No.4) — $2.55 / $1.32 🏆 5TH
Bet Tracked
Prob 24.7% | Place: 59.8% | Value: 0.79x
Why The top pick's each-way already covers the place angle here — doubling up is paying twice for the same insurance. Tracked instead.
3. Adranos (No.3) — $6.60 / $1.82 🏆 2ND
Bet Tracked
Prob 15.4% | Place: 46.1% | Value: 1.23x
Why Value is there for a place, but the main ticket is already doing the job.
Roughie: Port River Billie (No.12) — $10.00 / $2.75 🏆 7TH
Bet Tracked
Prob 6.1% | Place: 24.4% | Value: 0.91x
Why If he can find traffic-free ground and make up late metres, he'll be dangerous, otherwise he's just chasing luck.
That's the ticket as I struck it — the legs below are exactly what ran, no rewriting history.
Smart: 3,6,1 / 4,8,6 / 2,5,7,1 / 5,4,3,12 (144 combos x $0.24 = $35.00) -- 24% flexi
The day's multi leans on three win legs across the card.
1 - Pulsating (Race 1, No.3)✗ — $1.80
2 - Metalcraft (Race 3, No.4)✓ Won — $1.40
3 - Remember The Boys (Race 4, No.3)✓ Won — $1.62
Meeting Stats
Selections
Punty's Early Mail
Rightio Loose Units, Rockhampton's Soft 6 is a proper mud bath, rail's out (+5.5m entire), and with 20 scratchings floating around like spare change, you've got to back the right sort of aggression today, not just the loudest name.
MEET SNAPSHOT
Track: Soft 6, Sprint to middle distance 1050-1300m card
Rail: +5.5m Entire
Official going: Soft 6 (expected to play Speed and Sound-ish Stayers, with slick leaders)
Weather: Shower or two, 21°C, humidity 70%, wind 18km/h SE (watch for slippery sections and late sweeps)
Early lane guess: On-pace pockets from low-ish draws, then runners saving ground on the fence when the track gets sticky
Tempo profile: Generally genuine to moderate pace, but Soft 6 turns it into "where do you get traction?" more than "who's got the fastest motor?"
Jockeys to follow:
Adam Spinks: jumps on the market's main players in the tougher spots, plus he's been getting the right horses to the right spots
Amy Graham: regular in these local races, and she's got a knack for getting into it early then hanging on
Chris Mc Iver: clean hands, usually gives them a proper crack when the race shape suits
Stables to respect:
Alisha Taylor (4 runners): keeps turning up the right sort of profiles for Soft tracks, and today she's spread across the key races
J T Wigginton (4 runners): typically has them ready to move, and when the draw and tempo line up, they're hard to beat
Tom Smith (4 runners): solid for placing pressure through the field, especially when the pace stays genuine
Punty's take:
Rockhampton on a Soft 6 with the rail at +5.5m is basically asking one question, can these horses handle the grabby footing? The pace is genuine to moderate across the card, so the answer is usually "yes" for the ones who can hold their position without getting buried in the mud. If you back a complete no-chance backmarker on a soaking day, you're just donating. Smart punishers stay with the runners that can at least be somewhere useful, then let the wet track do the chaos work.
Race 1 sets the tone with a small field, and Pulsating is the obvious centre of gravity. She's the type who just keeps finding another gear, especially when the map says "don't get too far back". Then Race 2 is where the betting gets spicy, Radomir's the class, but the day's favourite trap is when something drifts too much. I'm still lining up Radomir as the base, then using the next tier to catch the upset if the leaders get tired.
Race 3 and Race 4 are your "speed meets soft" battles. Metalcraft is the tidy, efficient weapon in Race 3. In Race 4, Remember The Boys looks like he'll be right on the bridle early and then he's hard to get past through the lane. If you want to be brave without being an idiot, that's the lane to take.
What it means for you:
My plan is pretty simple, I'm building a spine with the Big 3 and then I'm not over-complicating the Quaddie legs where it's tight. Where the card is narrow, small-field logic wins. Where the card opens up, you cover the ones that can actually deal with Soft 6 and the rail.
For action:
Aggressive zone: Race 1 (Pulsating) and Race 4 (Remember The Boys) are your "get in early" spots. If you miss them, you'll regret it in that specific kind of way that ruins your night at 11:42pm.
Chaos zone: Race 5 and Race 6, because mud saps some chances and upgrades others. That's where place leverage matters and where a single runner making a better run than last time can flip your whole day.
And if you're chasing value, don't chase it blindly. Look for the horse that maps forward and keeps improving on Soft. That's how you beat the bloke who just plonks on the headline market shortie.
