Punty's Early Mail
For all of Punty's tips for Belmont Park, head to https://punty.ai/tips/belmont-2026-08-22
Rightio Loose Units, Belmont Park on a Soft 5 with the rail jammed out, showers sniffing around, and everyone pretending they understand the track like it's a movie they watched twice. It's one of those meetings where the leaders get chances, but the ones who can handle the kickback and still find the line at the 100m mark are the ones that pay your petrol money.
I'm treating today like a speed versus feel kinda card. Early races look set to favour runners who can hold a position without getting stranded, and later races open right up when the tempo changes and the backmarkers start rolling forward. If it's wet enough to make the track hold its breath, you want the horses that travel, not the ones that just hope.
Now, let's get stuck into it race by race, with a Big 3 spine that I'd be building the ticket around, then you bolt on your chaos where it fits.
MEET SNAPSHOT
Track: Belmont Park, 1300-2200m card
Rail: +1m Entire
Official going: Soft 5 (expected to play Leaders with a closing edge)
Weather: Shower or two, 16°C, humidity 57%, wind 22km/h ENE (watch for Rain risk 40%+ chance at 14:00)
Early lane guess: Fences to the outside will matter, expect some to get trapped and others to run on from midpack.
Tempo profile: Hot early, then it softens into a tactical middle, with a few finishing bursts in the longer races.
Jockeys to follow:
William Pike: He's got the "win or eye-watering place" profile today, and a couple of your big map horses line up for him.
Clint Johnston-Porter: Keeps landing with the right horse at the right time, especially when they're set up to travel.
Steven Parnham: When the pace is there, he rides like he knows where the gap is.
Stables to respect:
Mitchell Pateman (2 runners): You'll see blinkers and confidence coming through, and they're not afraid to send early.
C & M Gangemi (2 runners): Their horses tend to handle the ground, and they often come with a late push when it's messy.
N D Parnham (2 runners): They're big on getting a horse to the right spot in the race, not just showing up.
Punty's take:
Race 1 is a straight up little speed barbecue. So Si God (No.6) is the sort of horse that gets you through on a Soft 5 when the tempo stays honest, and he's been backed like he's got a script. Around him, Sunset Session (No.3) looks like the right "keep going" type if the leaders snag each other, while Spanish Armada (No.7) is the classic early speed that can still be there late if the race shape holds.
Race 2 is about who stays on the right side of the chaos. Eternal Wine (No.6) looks like the one they want to have the race under control, and she's got the sort of profile that can slide into the lane and not get shoved out. Then Niccimota (No.1) is the market's front foot, if the wide run turns into a wide win, you'll cop it. Either way, I'm not overthinking it, I'm backing the ones that look like they'll get their chance.
Race 3 to 4 is where you earn your money back, or you lose it heroically. With Discretion (No.2) sets up as a bully in a slow staying race, and Chollima (No.3) is the one that can hit the frame in a heartbeat because she finishes, she doesn't just participate. Then in Race 4, Heaven Specified (No.3) has the kind of track and jockey setup where, if they're on-song early, they can basically salute without drama.
What it means for you:
My aggression is aimed at the Big 3 spine. Those horses give you the best mix of pace suitability, market intent, and Soft track go. You don't need to chase long shots in every race, you need to pick the moments where the race shape lines up.
For the lanes, think Skinny when the races are tight and the map supports the favourites. When it turns to open legs, you spread, but you do it smart, not with some random scattergun. And with showers lurking, watch for horses that can still hold their action late, the ones that don't pull up like they've been asked to do extra work for free.
Finally, if you're trying to be clever, be clever after the jump. Until then, stick to your spine, and let the universe do the rest.
PUNTY'S BIG 3 + MULTI
These are the three bets the day leans on.
1 - King Of Light (Race 7, No.9) — $1.55
Why He's got the inside track style today, and the way this race maps, he can press without getting bullied.
2 - So Si God (Race 1, No.6) — $2.30
Why Hot tempo suits, Soft 5 looks fine, and he's built to be the one that's still rolling at the line.
3 - With Discretion (Race 3, No.2) — $2.25
Why Slow staying races reward the runner who can get room late, and this one looks made for that timing.
Multi (all three to win): $10 × ~8 = ~${8.00} collect
Race 1 – TABtouch - Westspeed Platinum
Race type: Handicap, 1000m
Map & tempo: Hot pace, leaders likely to set the tone, pressure comes early.
Punty read: This is a proper "who's got the engine early" sprint. So Si God (No.6) is the one I want sitting right around midfield with cover, because on a Soft 5 at 1000m, you can be the hero or the victim by 1 unlucky stride. Sunset Session (No.3) goes in well if the leaders get too brave, Spanish Armada (No.7) is the out-and-forward danger if the pace stays honest and nobody clips heels.
Top 3 + Roughie ($11.50 pool)
1. So Si God (No.6) — $2.30 / $1.25
Bet $9.50 Win, return $21.85
Prob 40.4% | Place: 59.5% | Value: 1.15x
Why He's set up to handle the Soft sprint, and he's the one who can stay in play when the pace gets rough.
2. Sunset Session (No.3) — $3.50 / $1.40
Bet $2.00 Place, return $2.80
Prob 19.9% | Place: 57.3% | Value: 0.87x
Why If the leaders do the heavy lifting, she's the type that grinds through and sneaks into the top three late.
3. Spanish Armada (No.7) — $5.00 / $1.65
Bet Tracked
Prob 14.3% | Place: 40.7% | Value: 0.89x
Why He's a speed threat, but this is one where you want the price to be forgiving for a place, not a stiff hit-and-hope.
Roughie: Sesh (No.2) — $11.00 / $2.60
Bet Tracked
Prob 6.3% | Place: 19.2% | Value: 0.86x
Why If the favourite scenario folds, he's the one swooping into the gap because he's been finishing too well recently.
Race 2 – Ted Martinovich – 2026 WA Spirit Of Racing Winner (Bm66+)
Race type: Handicap, 1000m
Map & tempo: Genuine pace, early speed is real.
Punty read: This one's all about who can be on the speed without burning their wick. Eternal Wine (No.6) looks like she's got the perfect rail to follow, she's got that "park in the right spot, then lift" feel. Niccimota (No.1) is the market's signal, and if she gets a clean run, she'll give you a tough contest. Excess Baggage (No.3) is the late threat, especially if the leaders start to compromise each other.
Top 3 + Roughie ($12.00 pool)
1. Eternal Wine (No.6) — $3.80 / $1.50
Bet $12.00 Win, return $45.60
Prob 29.2% | Place: 57.0% | Value: 1.38x
Why She's got the Soft sprint profile, and she looks the sort to strike early while still finding more late.
2. Niccimota (No.1) — $2.55 / $1.17
Bet Tracked
Prob 22.6% | Place: 51.6% | Value: 0.71x
Why A real chance — but at $1.17 the place he's not a saver, he's a punt, and that's not a price I insure at. Watching, not betting.
3. Excess Baggage (No.3) — $4.80 / $1.65
Bet Tracked
Prob 22.1% | Place: 53.5% | Value: 1.31x
Why She's got the punch to hit the trifecta zone, but the betting plan is already carrying enough cover elsewhere.
Roughie: Cannykev (No.2) — $10.00 / $2.60
Bet Tracked
Prob 5.8% | Place: 17.3% | Value: 0.72x
Why He's got a go, but this is a tight early battle and I want my money on the horses that look to get the cleaner run.
Race 3 – Paddy Ward - 2026 WA Racing Hall Of Fame Inductee (Bm66+)
Race type: Handicap, 2200m
Map & tempo: Slow pace, staying race, patience wins.
Punty read: Slow tempo at 2200m is where a jockey makes decisions, not where your luck swings at random. With Discretion (No.2) is sitting right in the sweet spot here, he can bide his time and then take the room when it arrives. Chollima (No.3) is the danger as she finishes strongly from the back if the race unfolds like it should. Rommeo (No.4) can absolutely grab a place if the leaders get too tactical and start waiting for late runs.
Top 3 + Roughie ($16.50 pool)
1. With Discretion (No.2) — $2.25 / $1.14
Bet $9.00 Win, return $20.25
Prob 33.9% | Place: 69.0% | Value: 0.95x
Why Slow pace, big field of runners who need luck, and he looks set to get it late without doing extra work.
2. Chollima (No.3) — $6.50 / $1.90
Bet $7.50 Place, return $14.25
Prob 16.6% | Place: 40.3% | Value: 1.34x
Why If there's any traffic or hesitation, she's got that late kick that can carve a slot right at the line.
3. Rommeo (No.4) — $7.50 / $2.15
Bet Tracked
Prob 11.5% | Place: 48.5% | Value: 1.07x
Why He's live for a run-on third, but this race wants someone who hits the line harder, not just grinds on.
Roughie: Be Bardot (No.1) — $9.00 / $2.45
Bet Tracked
Prob 9.0% | Place: 30.5% | Value: 1.00x
Why When this thing is slow, you want a specific move, and she's the one that could grab pieces if the others mis-time it.
Race 4 – Robert Holmes A Court – 2026 WA Racing Hall Of Fame Inductee (Rs1mw)
Race type: Handicap, 1600m
Map & tempo: Slow pace, middle distance where positioning matters.
Punty read: This is a race where you can't just throw money at the shortest price and hope. Heaven Specified (No.3) is the one I think gets the run of the race and then lifts, because this tempo doesn't suit overworked runs. Cinque Stelle (No.2) is the main danger if she jumps and lands in the right spot, and Vexatious Rose (No.8) is the outsider that can hit the board if the leaders go a bit too hard early.
Top 3 + Roughie ($10.50 pool)
1. Heaven Specified (No.3) — $3.70 / $1.45
Bet $10.50 Win, return $38.85
Prob 33.1% | Place: 69.0% | Value: 1.53x
Why Blink, you miss it races on Soft, and she's the type that can sustain the dash without losing action.
2. Cinque Stelle (No.2) — $1.85 / $1.09
Bet Tracked
Prob 32.6% | Place: 69.0% | Value: 0.75x
Why A real chance — but at $1.09 the place he's not a saver, he's a punt, and that's not a price I insure at. Watching, not betting.
3. Vexatious Rose (No.8) — $8.00 / $2.20
Bet Tracked
Prob 9.9% | Place: 43.2% | Value: 0.98x
Why She's got the form to pop into the placings, but I'm not paying for it unless the price is kinder.
Roughie: Supido Express (No.5) — $11.00 / $2.65
Bet Tracked
Prob 7.7% | Place: 29.0% | Value: 1.05x
Why If it turns into a positioning battle, he can swoop because he's got enough speed to make a late lane.
Race 5 – Carbine Club Of WA Race Day Plate
Race type: Open, 1200m
Map & tempo: Genuine pace, the front end matters but so does the carry.
Punty read: This is a classic 1200m where you want to know where the leaders are, because Soft 5 makes every stumble cost you. Manhattan Squeeze (No.9) looks like the one that can stalk and pounce, and she's the value play that makes sense without needing miracles. Gaintree (No.10) is the danger if he can settle near the front, while Burning Bridges (No.4) has the speed to be there a long way but might get overrun if the finish is strong.
Top 3 + Roughie ($10.50 pool)
1. Gaintree (No.10) — $2.15 / $1.17
Bet $10.50 Win, return $22.57
Prob 22.6% | Place: 68.6% | Value: 0.61x
Why The map says he's got every chance to be in the speed zone, and the market has him marked as a must-have.
2. Manhattan Squeeze (No.9) — $6.50 / $2.15
Bet Tracked
Prob 21.1% | Place: 47.0% | Value: 1.73x
Why A real chance — but at $2.15 the place he's not a saver, he's a punt, and that's not a price I insure at. Watching, not betting.
3. Properata (No.2) — $6.50 / $2.15
Bet Tracked
Prob 12.9% | Place: 47.8% | Value: 1.06x
Why He's capable of sticking around for third, but this is where you protect your bank from overpaying for second best.
Roughie: Burning Bridges (No.4) — $12.00 / $3.10
Bet Tracked
Prob 11.0% | Place: 36.6% | Value: 1.66x
Why If he gets an easier lead than expected, he can last, and that makes him the sneaky "front-runner can pay" type.
Race 6 – Black Heart Bart - 2026 WA Racing Hall Of Fame Inductee (Bm72+)
Race type: Handicap, 1200m
Map & tempo: Moderate pace, but you still need to be in the first half.
Punty read: This one's about the right blend of speed and survivability. Asif (No.5) is the sensible choice if you want a horse that can step in and keep responding. Lord Shiva (No.3) is the classic leader that makes the rest work, and King Adviso (No.6) is the value wildcard that can sneak into the finish if the pace doesn't snuff him out early.
Top 3 + Roughie ($24.00 pool)
1. Asif (No.5) — $2.75 / $1.25
Bet $20.00 Win, return $55.00
Prob 27.3% | Place: 69.0% | Value: 0.94x
Why He has the profile to be in range early and still have something left, which is what you need on Soft 5 at 1200m.
2. Lord Shiva (No.3) — $3.30 / $1.40
Bet $4.00 Place, return $5.60
Prob 23.2% | Place: 69.0% | Value: 0.96x
Why He's got the speed to dictate, and if the race is even, he's hard to run down.
3. King Adviso (No.6) — $4.80 / $1.65
Bet Tracked
Prob 20.2% | Place: 53.8% | Value: 1.21x
Why He's got the run to be in the finish, but the exact place value route is a bit awkward today.
Roughie: Sunny Honey (No.4) — $10.00 / $2.60
Bet Tracked
Prob 7.3% | Place: 28.6% | Value: 0.92x
Why She can put herself into the race, and if the leaders soften, she's a late threat with juice.
Race 7 – Idyllic Prince Stakes
Race type: Open, 1300m
Map & tempo: Moderate pace, inside speed horses get chances.
Punty read: This looks like a two-horse storyline at the top, with Fluro Neuro ready to take a slice if the race breaks wrong. King Of Light (No.9) is the one I trust to keep showing up, Snowdome (No.2) is the obvious danger because he can make his own luck up front, and Fluro Neuro (No.4) is value pressure if the leaders go too hard and still have to hold on.
Top 3 + Roughie ($24.00 pool)
1. King Of Light (No.9) — $1.55 / $1.03
Bet $20.00 Win, return $31.00
Prob 50.5% | Place: 69.0% | Value: 0.98x
Why Short price for a reason, he sits in the right spot for a 1300m race that can get tricky and still stays competitive.
2. Snowdome (No.2) — $4.00 / $1.35
Bet $4.00 Place, return $5.40
Prob 25.4% | Place: 69.0% | Value: 1.27x
Why He's a front-runner with Soft credentials, and if he gets to the turn still in control, he can't be ignored.
3. Fluro Neuro (No.4) — $7.50 / $1.85
Bet Tracked
Prob 9.1% | Place: 59.6% | Value: 0.85x
Why She can run a cheeky race, but this is a race that might reward the simplest speed and the best positioning.
Roughie: Final Siren (No.6) — $15.00 / $2.80
Bet Tracked
Prob 4.8% | Place: 27.9% | Value: 0.89x
Why If the pace dulls and he gets a late lane, he can pick up pieces, but you're not betting him like he's the plan.
Race 8 – William Pike – 2026 WA Racing Hall Of Fame Inductee (Rs1mw)
Race type: Handicap, 1300m
Map & tempo: Hot pace, outside runners need luck, and the finish line matters.
Punty read: This is the kind of 1300m where you can watch the race happen and then realise you backed the wrong side of the track bias. Refemme No Angel (No.6) has the chance to get a fair run in the middle and still sprint, Searchin' Times (No.2) is the wider option who can improve if she keeps getting a lane, and Cleanemup (No.10) is the late value type if the leaders start to churn up in the soft sections.
Top 3 + Roughie ($19.00 pool)
1. Refemme No Angel (No.6) — $2.80 / $1.45
Bet $14.00 Win, return $39.20
Prob 27.3% | Place: 69.0% | Value: 0.95x
Why She's got the competitive profile and the sort of run style that survives a fast early tempo on Soft.
2. Searchin' Times (No.2) — $5.50 / $2.10
Bet $5.00 Place, return $10.50
Prob 13.7% | Place: 64.7% | Value: 0.94x
Why Big race at 1300m needs patience, and if she dodges the early crowd, she can fill a spot late.
3. Common Touch (No.1) — $5.00 / $1.95
Bet Tracked
Prob 13.5% | Place: 43.8% | Value: 0.84x
Why She can lead early, but with the hot pace and Soft kickback, it can turn into a sticky sit-and-go.
Roughie: Deel Her In (No.3) — $11.00 / $3.20
Bet Tracked
Prob 6.2% | Place: 23.4% | Value: 0.86x
Why She's in the right category to run on and pinch a placing if traffic issues happen in the middle stages.
SEQUENCE LANES
EARLY QUADDIE (R1–R4)
Smart: 6,3,7,2 / 6,3,1,2 / 2,4,6,3 / 2,3,8,5 (256 combos x $0.08 = $20.00) -- 8% flexi
One-line commentary: All four legs are tight banker shapes, so you're mostly paying for the odd near miss, not a full roulette-wheel.
Punty's take: 4x4x4x4 looks roomy in theory, but with the early speed locked in, it stays "Skinny-ish" for an early quaddie.
QUADDIE (R5–R8)
Smart: 10,2,9,4 / 3,5,6,4 / 9,2,4 / 6,2,1,3 (192 combos x $0.11 = $21.00) -- 11% flexi
One-line commentary: Race 5 is a wide-ish TRIO, Race 6 and 8 open, and Race 7 is the anchor, so this is a "balanced entertainment" quad.
Punty's take: Three open legs means you need at least one surprise to break your way, but the short-pick anchor keeps it from being pure chaos.
BIG 6 (R3–R8)
Smart: 2 / 3 / 10 / 5 / 9 / 6 (1 combos x $2.00 = $2.00) -- 200% flexi
One-line commentary: It's a mostly-short-pick script, but any one leg misses and it turns into a sad walk to the bar.
Punty's take: This is the "faith ticket". It's skinny to the bone, and it's here for legends with good nerves.
NUGGETS FROM THE TRACK
1 - Soft 5 and sprint chaos is real
At 1000m today, if the leaders start braking for each other, the best finishers aren't necessarily the shortest prices, they're the ones sitting with cover. That's why So Si God is the centre of my plan.
2 - Watch for Value Place traps
Some of the big names are too short in the place market, meaning you can win a lot of races without getting paid properly. That's why I'm pushing the win bet routes on the "right price" horses instead of stuffing around with skinny place odds.
3 - 1300m is a positioning drama
By Race 7 and 8, it's less about who has the best engine and more about who gets a clean run when the pace stack tightens. King Of Light and Refemme No Angel are built for that type of race shape.
FINAL WORD FROM THE SICKO SANCTUARY
Belmont today is a bit like the final act of a heist movie, everyone thinks they know the exit, and then the soft ground changes the timing. Stick to the spine, respect the pace, and if you're gonna dream, dream with a plan, not a whim. Gamble Responsibly.
