Punty's Early Mail
For all of Punty's tips for Kununurra, head to https://punty.ai/tips/kununurra-2026-08-22
Rightio Degenerates, Kununurra looks like one of those meetings where the rail is doing all the talking, and the leaders get first dibs on the fun. Good 4, no rain, true rail, and a pace setup that screams winners are going to be either right on the speed, or stealing it late with a bit of cheek. Let's go.
MEET SNAPSHOT
Track: Good 4, 1100-1600m card
Rail: True
Official going: Good 4 (expected to play speed-favours, rail-friendly)
Weather: Partly cloudy, 18°C, humidity 89%, wind 0km/h N (watch for no-weather shenanigans, no late wet-track excuses)
Early lane guess: The inside and the handy spots, especially mid-race leaders
Tempo profile: Genuine to slow depending on race, but the theme is clear, if you're on the speed you'll be hard to run down
Jockeys to follow:
Ms Kyra Yuill: gets on the right horses early, usually lets them do their job
Aaron Sweeney: fearless with position, good at getting horses into the race when it's tight
Ms Hannah Le Blanc: reliable around the parks, often pops up when others get buried
Stables to respect:
D Leech (11 runners): consistently puts them in the right spots and they go where they're aimed
K L Moore (3 runners): strong with locals and knows the kickback angles
D Leech, Ms C Godden? (you'll see it on repeat): the kind of trainer who has a plan for the pace map, not a prayer
Punty's take:
Alright, legends, this card is built on two things, pace that's actually honest, and horses that don't need a conspiracy theory to win. Race 1 is a "leaders have it" type of affair, with No.4 Entrapment sitting right where it usually wants to be, cruising in front and waiting for the kick. No.3 Dummy Spit is the danger because in these Good 4 scenarios, you get one bloke who always runs on, wide or not, and that's where it can sting the shorties.
Race 2 is slower, and that's when you start respecting the inside runner who's got options. I'm all over the spine of this meeting, Entrapment to start the engine, Leveraged Buyout to keep it rolling, then Texture to close it out in the quick sprints where you either win with speed or you die trying. If you've been bitten by the "everyone else thinks it's favourite day" bug before, today's the one where you lean into the races that look like they'll play the same way every punter can see.
What it means for you:
Be aggressive where the pace is set, particularly Race 1 and Race 7. That's where you want your money doing laps, not sitting in the car park. Race 4 and Race 6 are where you watch for traffic, because slow tempos can turn "maybe" into "absolutely nowhere" if the run's not there.
My game plan is simple. Get your boots on early with the big two, then build the Multi around the three most likely winners on the card: Entrapment, Leveraged Buyout, Texture. Everything else is about saving your arse in races that can go sideways with interference and blocked runs, so you don't turn one bad trip into a full-blown donation.
PUNTY'S BIG 3 + MULTI
These are the three bets the day leans on.
1 - Entrapment (Race 1, No.4) — $1.86
Why Pace advantage horse, sits on the rails of the race and grinds them down.
2 - Leveraged Buyout (Race 2, No.1) — $2.35
Why Best fit for the slow setup, has the right profile to ping at the right time.
3 - Texture (Race 7, No.3) — $2.62
Why Sprint speed on a Good 4, and she's the kind that makes "late" not late enough.
Multi (all three to win): $10 × ~11 = ~${110} collect
Race 1 – IGA Local Grocer (Bm56+)
Race type: Handicap, 1350m
Map & tempo: Genuine Pace, Entrapment leads, speed stays honest
Punty read: Entrapment (No.4) is the main character. On a rail-friendly Good 4 with genuine tempo, the leader doesn't just need to be "good", they need to be comfortable. This one should control the race, then kick away at the finish like it owes you money.
Top 3 + Roughie ($12.00 pool)
1. Entrapment (No.4) — $1.86 / $1.13
Bet $12.00 Win, return $22.32
Prob 47.9% | Place: 69.0% | Value: 1.10x
Why Genuine leader, maps to the speed line, and the market's not wasting your time.
2. Dummy Spit (No.3) — $5.10 / $2.10
Bet Tracked
Prob 18.7% | Place: 34.4% | Value: 1.18x
Why Only two places paid in a field this size, and skinny place divvies make savers a mug's game — this is a win-only race. Tracked, not staked.
3. Our Couver (No.1) — $3.75 / $1.65
Bet Tracked
Prob 17.9% | Place: 47.0% | Value: 0.83x
Why She can hit the line, but the value angle isn't paying for the risk here.
Roughie: Percussion Prince (No.5) — $9.60 / $3.20
Bet Tracked
Prob 7.3% | Place: 19.1% | Value: 0.87x
Why Needs chaos in the speed section, otherwise she's running for minor awards at best.
Race 2 – Keep Farm Cotton (Bm62+)
Race type: BenchMark 62+, 1600m
Map & tempo: Slow Pace, Oscar Winner advantaged, backmarkers have a say
Punty read: This is a slow one, so whoever's got the most efficient run will get the cheque. Leveraged Buyout (No.1) is drawn well enough to get cover, and the tempo means she gets to unleash late instead of racing to keep up early. Bon's Your Back (No.2) is the main threat, especially if she can find clear air and run on past those trapped in the middle.
Top 3 + Roughie ($12.00 pool)
1. Leveraged Buyout (No.1) — $2.35 / $1.32
Bet $12.00 Win, return $28.20
Prob 33.6% | Place: 49.6% | Value: 0.97x
Why Perfect "slow tempo" profile, should get the right trip, and the market price is close enough to be playable.
2. Bon's Your Back (No.2) — $3.45 / $1.65
Bet Tracked
Prob 27.8% | Place: 40.3% | Value: 1.19x
Why Only two places paid in a field this size, and skinny place divvies make savers a mug's game — this is a win-only race. Tracked, not staked.
3. Magarten (No.3) — $4.10 / $1.80
Bet Tracked
Prob 17.6% | Place: 29.0% | Value: 0.89x
Why Class is competitive, but you want more than "hoping she finds it" from here.
Roughie: Oscar Winner (No.5) — $6.50 / $2.50
Bet Tracked
Prob 11.6% | Place: 19.2% | Value: 0.93x
Why Needs the race to open up for her, and slow races rarely hand out free lanes.
Race 3 – Doon Doon Roadhouse & KMG (Bm56+)
Race type: Handicap, 1600m
Map & tempo: Moderate Pace, multiple pace pressure up front
Punty read: Magnaburma (No.1) looks like the right kind of forward runner for this tempo, the sort that keeps finding the line while others have to chase their own tail. Anphina (No.4) is the one I'd watch for the jump forward, especially if the leaders start taking the scenic route. Miracoli (No.3) is the "if you're desperate, she might repay you" play, but she's not the one I'm building my afternoon on.
Top 3 + Roughie ($12.00 pool)
1. Magnaburma (No.1) — $3.05 / $1.65
Bet $12.00 Win, return $36.60
Prob 28.1% | Place: 35.3% | Value: 1.07x
Why Pace-friendly, consistent Good 4 profile, and should get a trip where she can sustain.
2. Faberge Tzar (No.2) — $3.40 / $1.72
Bet Tracked
Prob 19.9% | Place: 34.1% | Value: 0.85x
Why Only two places paid in a field this size, and skinny place divvies make savers a mug's game — this is a win-only race. Tracked, not staked.
3. Anphina (No.4) — $5.00 / $2.25
Bet Tracked
Prob 19.2% | Place: 32.8% | Value: 1.21x
Why Strong price-value, but if the pace holds true, she might be running on in the "almost" zone.
Roughie: Miracoli (No.3) — $5.00 / $2.25
Bet Tracked
Prob 13.9% | Place: 21.7% | Value: 0.87x
Why She's live enough to place, but win-only in this type of div setup makes it hard.
Race 4 – Ladies Bracelet (Bm56+)
Race type: BenchMark 56+, 1200m
Map & tempo: Slow Pace, Cable Boy and Flying Gentry have the race-shaping speed
Punty read: This is a short race where being trapped is poison. Flying Gentry (No.4) is right there near the speed but the price doesn't scream value. The Final Word (No.3) is the one I'd want around the marker because she's got the profile to pounce when runners around her stop. Throw At Da Stumps (No.2) can sneak in if the gaps appear, and Punty loves a race that gives you a reason to believe in a middle pick.
Top 3 + Roughie ($12.00 pool)
1. The Final Word (No.3) — $3.80 / $1.90
Bet $12.00 Win, return $45.60
Prob 22.4% | Place: 41.3% | Value: 1.06x
Why Short-form sprint where she can win off the right run, and the race doesn't look too chaotic.
2. Flying Gentry (No.4) — $3.45 / $1.80
Bet Tracked
Prob 20.8% | Place: 40.3% | Value: 0.90x
Why Only two places paid in a field this size, and skinny place divvies make savers a mug's game — this is a win-only race. Tracked, not staked.
3. Throw At Da Stumps (No.2) — $4.60 / $2.15
Bet Tracked
Prob 17.8% | Place: 29.0% | Value: 1.03x
Why Include her in your head, just not your wallet, today.
Roughie: If I Din Havadime (No.5) — $10.10 / $3.60
Bet Tracked
Prob 5.0% | Place: 12.2% | Value: 0.63x
Why Needs a miracle lane at 1200m, which is doable, but you'll pay for it with regret.
Race 5 – MRB Plumbing (Bm48+)
Race type: Handicap, 1100m
Map & tempo: Moderate Pace, speed backed early, Warrego is the class in a short burst
Punty read: This one is about who can stay in the right rhythm over 1100m. Warrego (No.1) is the obvious banker flavour if the race stays moderately honest, because she can be in it without needing a perfect miracle. Arrogant Miss (No.8) is the spicy value on the place side, and Punty likes a place bet when the race isn't rewarding long-shot win dreams.
Top 3 + Roughie ($19.00 pool)
1. Warrego (No.1) — $3.00 / $1.35
Bet $14.00 Win, return $42.00
Prob 28.8% | Place: 69.0% | Value: 1.10x
Why Short sprint, strong place profile, and she looks like she can keep going through the line.
2. Arrogant Miss (No.8) — $5.35 / $1.72
Bet $5.00 Place, return $8.60
Prob 19.4% | Place: 45.4% | Value: 1.33x
Why Big value for a place chance, and she can slot into the right finishing grind.
3. Buades (No.6) — $4.65 / $1.65
Bet Tracked
Prob 14.6% | Place: 53.8% | Value: 0.87x
Why Could be there, but doesn't look like the right number for a profitable run.
Roughie: One Last Promise (No.4) — $13.50 / $3.30
Bet Tracked
Prob 5.9% | Place: 21.4% | Value: 1.01x
Why If the race blows up, sure, she's in with a shout, otherwise she's living on luck.
Race 6 – TABtouch (Bm48+)
Race type: Handicap, 1350m
Map & tempo: Slow Pace, Envenomate and the "right trip" runners get first go at the line
Punty read: Envenomate (No.7) is the one I want when the tempo goes slow, because she should be able to finish hard without getting asked early. Working Class Girl (No.6) is a value roughie because she's got the on-pace shape and the market's seen something, while Ocean's Jen (No.2) is tempting but the price isn't doing the favour today. In No Doubt (No.3) is there, but she's more "place if luck breaks" than "win and pay the rent".
Top 3 + Roughie ($22.00 pool)
1. Envenomate (No.7) — $3.60 / $1.57
Bet $17.00 Win, return $61.20
Prob 23.3% | Place: 69.0% | Value: 1.23x
Why Slow tempo lets her pop late, and she's built for Good 4 finishing power.
2. Ocean's Jen (No.2) — $3.50 / $1.52
Bet $5.00 Place, return $7.60
Prob 15.0% | Place: 47.5% | Value: 0.77x
Why She's got the place side, but she's not the main win boss for me.
3. In No Doubt (No.3) — $6.20 / $2.15
Bet Tracked
Prob 10.8% | Place: 40.3% | Value: 0.98x
Why Place looks possible, but the number doesn't pay for the risk.
Roughie: Working Class Girl (No.6) — $9.40 / $2.75
Bet Tracked
Prob 9.6% | Place: 35.8% | Value: 1.32x
Why If she gets the right run, she can surprise, but today the money goes where the race shapes suit.
Race 7 – Argyle Engineering (Bm62+)
Race type: BenchMark 62+, 1100m
Map & tempo: Genuine Pace, speed battle, Texture is the main turn-of-foot threat
Punty read: This is a proper sprint, and sprinters are like horror movies, you can't just look at the killer, you gotta watch the whole set-up. Texture (No.3) is the one with the best sprinting rhythm and the right pace positioning to strike. Tellez (No.4) is the danger because she can keep pressure on and grab the lead or sit tight enough to run her down. Convincebility (No.1) is the "if it's a fair dinkum race" play, but I'm with the speed and the finishing acceleration.
Top 3 + Roughie ($12.00 pool)
1. Texture (No.3) — $2.62 / $1.52
Bet $12.00 Win, return $31.44
Prob 29.5% | Place: 39.8% | Value: 0.99x
Why Sprint speed on Good 4, and the race tempo suits her to put the race away early.
2. Tellez (No.4) — $3.80 / $1.90
Bet Tracked
Prob 21.5% | Place: 34.1% | Value: 1.04x
Why Only two places paid in a field this size, and skinny place divvies make savers a mug's game — this is a win-only race. Tracked, not staked.
3. Convincebility (No.1) — $4.80 / $2.20
Bet Tracked
Prob 18.2% | Place: 28.6% | Value: 1.12x
Why She can run on, but the win scenario depends on things going perfectly.
Roughie: Copycat (No.7) — $9.15 / $3.70
Bet Tracked
Prob 8.5% | Place: 17.0% | Value: 0.99x
Why Needs gaps early, then needs to sprint through them like a Saturday night getaway car.
SEQUENCE LANES
Quaddie (R4–R7)
Smart: 3,4,2 / 1,6,8,4 / 7,2,3,6 / 3,4,1 (144 combos x $0.24 = $35.10) -- 24% flexi
Punty's take: R4 is the tight one, R5 stays structured, R6 is the chaos leg where you need the wider net, and R7 is a speed-lane snap back.
NUGGETS FROM THE TRACK
1 - Entrapment's job is boring, which is why it wins.
When the pace is genuine and the rail is true, the leader can steal the race without needing heroics. Back the horse that gets to run her own race.
2 - Race 5 is place-friendly, but only if you don't overthink it.
1100m handicaps on Good 4 often turn into a straight line late, so the place value play is where the value hides, not in chasing win longshots.
3 - Texture in Race 7 is the "horror villain" you actually want.
Short sprint, genuine speed, and she's built for that moment when the rest are still finding third gear. If you like dividends, this is the one you treat like it's your mate's stag do.
FINAL WORD FROM THE SICKO SANCTUARY
If the speed shows up like it should, we'll be laughing early. If it doesn't, you still want the Multi spine sitting on the three horses most likely to keep the story simple. Now go have a crack, and if you're gonna donate, do it for the right reasons.
