For all of Punty's tips for Quirindi, head to https://punty.ai/tips/quirindi-2026-08-22

Rightio Loose Units, Quirindi's giving me that "early favourites get tested, then still win anyway" sort of vibe, with showers creeping in like your mate who swears he'll be at the pub on time. Good 4, true rail, and the tempo looks like it'll be readable, as long as you don't get held up in the wrong spot like a bloke stuck in traffic on game day.

MEET SNAPSHOT

Track: Quirindi, 1100-1600m card
Rail: True
Official going: Heavy 10 (updated from Good 4) (expected to play a speed-and-stay-on profile)
Weather: Showers easing, cool and damp-feeling, rain risk high later (watch for legs getting sticky)
Early lane guess: True rail will make the railside sit handy, but the outside run still works if the speed honest
Tempo profile: Races 3 to 6 look like they've got enough pace for on-pacers to not die, with a couple of midfield sit-and-swoop chances
Jockeys to follow:
Daniel Northey (late alt in R1, and he knows how to extract a bit of value when the market overshoots)
Jake Pracey-Holmes (key midfield pressure in the short stuff, and he tends to get horses to the right spot)
Clayton Gallagher (he's in a few of the "get a run, get home" scenarios across the card)
Stables to respect:
Brett Thompson (7+ runners across the card, and he has a knack for getting maiden types to jump clean and run honest)
Holly Williams (multiple chances, and she's effective when the map lines up, especially with horses that can work through)
Nikki Pollock (sprinkled through the key races, and when her prices shorten she usually isn't bluffing)

Punty's take: This meeting smells like a plan. Not a complicated, over-engineered plan, more like the "get in the game early, then don't panic when the rain clouds do their bullshit" plan. Good 4 with showers coming means horses that can hold position and keep their rhythm are the ones that slice through, and the ones that need a perfect run might get filleted by traffic.

Race 1 is the warm-up villain. Strasbelle is the clear anchor, and with blinkers going on, she's the sort to turn up and do her job without needing heroics. Tamieka Warrior is the interesting miss if you want a place-driven game, and Redaluca Girl has those "interference excuse" runs that can turn into a cheeky breakthrough if the lane opens.

Then races 3 to 6 are where I get a bit feral. Race 3 has a proper speed angle, and Royal And Ready is the best bet to hit the line first. Race 4 is a Benchmark 50 where the leaders might get bothered, so I'm leaning into the horses that can either sit close or swing wider without losing all their momentum. Race 5 is chaos-ish, open enough for a value swing, and Race 6 is the full send, short sharp 1000m where the best-balanced run wins.

What it means for you: My game plan is simple: be brave with the Big 3 spine (Strasbelle, Royal And Ready, Zou Big Boy). Then in each race, use the Top 3 to protect, and the roughie to get paid if the pace breaks nicely or the market gets distracted.

If you're only backing once, back those three. If you're building a card, let Race 3 and Race 6 do most of the heavy lifting for your exotics, because they're the best mix of "winnable" and "horses that can actually hold up the chaos". For quaddies, I'm keeping it tight where the favourites are real, and spreading where the open races can turn into a phone screenshot moment.

Quick reminder, because the conditions are whippy later, don't ignore barrier and getting a run in the right pocket. A horse that gets held up for 2 strides at the wrong time at Quirindi is basically paying rent on a dead end.

PUNTY'S BIG 3 + MULTI

These are the three bets the day leans on.

1 - Strasbelle (Race 1, No.6) — $1.65
Why Blinkers on, and she's the one that looks set to do the "sit handy and hit the front" work.

2 - Royal And Ready (Race 3, No.1) — $3.40
Why Drawn well enough to hold the right spot, plus the gear change suggests they're serious.

3 - Zou Big Boy (Race 2, No.1) — $3.70
Why The pace should suit him and he's the sort to keep finding enough to hold the line.

Multi (all three to win): $10 × ~ $21.00 = ~ $210.00 collect

Race 1 – Krakatini Transport Mdn Plate

Race type: Maiden, 1450m
Map & tempo: Slow pace, on-pacers need to get their position early and survive the midfield shuffle
Punty read: This is a proper slow-burn maiden where the winner usually comes from the spot that gets to relax just enough, then accelerate without getting boxed. Strasbelle has the class signal and the blinkers first time, so she's the one I want close without getting stuck. Tamieka Warrior looks like the other one who can keep working forward and not get buried. The danger is the usual maiden crap, someone races wide or gets shuffled then suddenly finds a lane late. I've kept the roughie to a backmarker, because if this pace falls apart, those lanes appear like magic.

Top 3 + Roughie ($21.00 pool)

1. Strasbelle (No.6) — $1.65 / $1.05
Bet $17.00 Win, return $28.05
Prob 49.7% | Place: 69.0% | Value: 1.55x
Why Blinkers on for a reason, and she maps to be right where she can pounce, not where she has to find traffic-free perfection.

2. Tamieka Warrior (No.8) — $3.90 / $1.45
Bet $4.00 Place, return $5.80
Prob 19.1% | Place: 69.0% | Value: 0.90x
Why If the speed is soft, she's the one to keep peeling off the back of the leaders and take the place lane.

3. Redaluca Girl (No.4) — $8.00 / $2.05
Bet Tracked
Prob 9.4% | Place: 47.0% | Value: 0.98x
Why She's had some legit excuses and keeps flashing "should be closer" vibes, but this is one of those where the place price just isn't doing enough for me.

Roughie: Rock'n On Uptown (No.5) — $12.00 / $2.65
Bet Tracked
Prob 6.1% | Place: 34.1% | Value: 0.86x
Why If the pace collapses and the field fragments, he can be flying late down the outside. Roughie path is basically "everyone rides into trouble, then he inherits a lane".

Race 2 – Gowings Toyota (Bm50)

Race type: Benchmark 50, 1450m
Map & tempo: Moderate pace, expect pressure up front, winners usually take advantage of being on the speed rather than chasing shadows
Punty read: This one is a classic BM50 where the front runners don't necessarily get run down, they get out-finished. Zou Big Boy is the main driver of the tempo, and even with the weight bump, he looks like the type to keep rolling. Extreme Merger and Luke Skywalker sit in that "stays in the race" bracket too. Stolen Show is the mid-odds chaos piece, but you don't want him too far back unless the leaders go mad. I like the Trio shape here, protect with the on-pacers, and don't overthink it.

Top 3 + Roughie ($22.00 pool)

1. Zou Big Boy (No.1) — $3.70 / $1.60
Bet $17.00 Win, return $62.90
Prob 21.2% | Place: 60.1% | Value: 1.00x
Why Likely leads or sits on top of the leaders, and this track and trip combo tends to reward that exact role.

2. Extreme Merger (No.2) — $4.80 / $1.75
Bet $5.00 Place, return $8.75
Prob 21.0% | Place: 67.1% | Value: 1.29x
Why Better than his last run suggests, and he looks set to be competitive if the pace stays honest.

3. Luke Skywalker (No.3) — $4.60 / $1.72
Bet Tracked
Prob 20.3% | Place: 68.1% | Value: 1.19x
Why He has the speed to be there, but the place band isn't offering me value at this rank.

Roughie: Stolen Show (No.5) — $14.00 / $3.30
Bet Tracked
Prob 7.0% | Place: 26.8% | Value: 1.25x
Why If he gets an easy lead-in and the race doesn't stretch him, he can cash a slice of the exacta trifecta.

Race 3 – The Plains Pantry Mdn Hcp

Race type: Maiden, 1100m
Map & tempo: Moderate pace, fast lanes matter, and the lead or just behind it is the lane that usually pays
Punty read: This is a sprint where the winner usually lands in that sweet spot, not too far back, not doing too much early. Royal And Ready draws in the right area and has blinkers off first time, which screams "we're fixing the concentration". Long Time Lovers is right there too, and he looks like he can keep working forward late. Rufus Atticus is the other one with "gets there and holds" energy. The gear changes across the field are wild enough that you can see why the market might overreact, but I'm sticking with the ones that fit the map.

Top 3 + Roughie ($24.00 pool)

1. Royal And Ready (No.1) — $3.40 / $1.52
Bet $20.00 Win, return $68.00
Prob 24.6% | Place: 69.0% | Value: 1.37x
Why Blinkers off, barrier helps, and his run style is built for a 1100m where tempo does most of the hard work.

2. Long Time Lovers (No.9) — $4.50 / $1.72
Bet $4.00 Place, return $6.88
Prob 19.7% | Place: 61.0% | Value: 1.50x
Why He's the type to get rolling when others are still travelling, and he has the right profile for the late cut-off.

3. Rufus Atticus (No.10) — $4.60 / $1.72
Bet Tracked
Prob 18.1% | Place: 57.4% | Value: 1.46x
Why He's live, but I'm not paying that place price for a rank 3 saver in a field like this.

Roughie: Jukebox Edition (No.8) — $13.00 / $3.20
Bet Tracked
Prob 4.8% | Place: 17.3% | Value: 0.60x
Why If the inside lanes die a bit and the outside runners pop, he can sprint past tired traffic and grab a slice.

Race 4 – Graze At Willow Tree Inn Willow Tree Cup (Bm50)

Race type: Benchmark 50, 1600m
Map & tempo: Genuine pace, middle distance where stalking beats chasing and staying balanced matters
Punty read: This is a race where the leaders set it up for the closers and the middle of the track decides the finish. Ropewalker should try to control things, but at 1600m the question is always, does he get the run he wants, or does he get surrounded and pinned in? Big Short and Bill Peyto are the main "stay in range and strike" types. Compadre is an intriguing runner if the pace collapses a touch and the wider lane appears. Griffinstown Girl is the one to watch for value, but I'm not overselling it, I'm just respecting the market move and her pace ability.

Top 3 + Roughie ($13.00 pool)

1. Big Short (No.1) — $4.60 / $1.80
Bet $13.00 Each Way ($6.50W + $6.50P), return $29.90 (wins) / $11.70 (places)
Prob 16.6% | Place: 61.5% | Value: 0.98x
Why He's built for this sort of pace scenario, and he's been close enough to be dangerous when the race opens up late.

2. Bill Peyto (No.2) — $4.80 / $1.85
Bet Tracked
Prob 16.3% | Place: 47.0% | Value: 1.01x
Why The top pick's each-way already covers the place angle here — doubling up is paying twice for the same insurance. Tracked instead.

3. Compadre (No.9) — $5.50 / $2.10
Bet Tracked
Prob 11.7% | Place: 40.3% | Value: 0.83x
Why Real chance to run into the exotics if the race shapes, but I'm not chasing his place profile for this price.

Roughie: Bit Of A Step (No.7) — $11.00 / $3.10
Bet Tracked
Prob 6.4% | Place: 21.7% | Value: 0.91x
Why He's the type that can run a cheeky mid-race position, then grind out late if the leaders tire.

Race 5 – Elders Killara Feedlot (Bm50)

Race type: Benchmark 50, 1200m
Map & tempo: Genuine pace, short sprint where the winner is often the one who keeps working after the corner
Punty read: Chaos handicap, yeah, but it's not total guesswork. Winged is right there with a rhythm that suits a 1200m, and he's likely to get a position that's not too far back. Hit Song is a known speed pressure, Archaic Force is the "don't ignore me" runner, and Poised is the market favourite vibe that can either win or ruin your day, depending on how the track plays. For a roughie, Injair is the sort who can pick up a lane and finish harder than his price says. If the rain risk starts to tighten up the middle, that late kick becomes gold.

Top 3 + Roughie ($12.00 pool)

1. Winged (No.1) — $5.50 / $2.15
Bet $12.00 Each Way ($6.00W + $6.00P), return $33.00 (wins) / $12.90 (places)
Prob 19.8% | Place: 69.0% | Value: 1.40x
Why He's in the action, and his style gives you the best chance of being there at the finish when the pace starts to flatten.

2. Hit Song (No.3) — $5.00 / $2.00
Bet Tracked
Prob 14.7% | Place: 60.8% | Value: 0.95x
Why The top pick's each-way already covers the place angle here — doubling up is paying twice for the same insurance. Tracked instead.

3. Archaic Force (No.2) — $6.00 / $2.25
Bet Tracked
Prob 13.4% | Place: 60.6% | Value: 1.03x
Why He can hit the line, but I'm not paying the place tax on him from rank 3.

Roughie: Injair (No.7) — $10.00 / $3.00
Bet Tracked
Prob 9.3% | Place: 40.3% | Value: 1.19x
Why If the speed stays genuine, he can stalk and then run through tired horses, especially with the outside lanes opening a touch.

Race 6 – Sipple Contracting (Bm50)

Race type: Benchmark 50, 1000m
Map & tempo: Genuine pace, 1000m is about who gets a clean run, quick acceleration, and a smooth rhythm into the straight
Punty read: This is the race that decides whether your Saturday is a win lap or a drive home with regret snacks. Midnight Rabble is in the pocket, Rivaldo has the "gets there and takes a bite" profile, and Brighella can run up near midfield and still be there at the line. At Quirindi, 1000m under pressure means you want horses that can keep working without getting shuffled into the worst part of the pack. The market support for Midnight Rabble and Rivaldo tells me they're not just cheap prices, they're actually live chances. Ring My Bell is the one to mention as the roughie type if the pace gets weird.

Top 3 + Roughie ($10.50 pool)

1. Midnight Rabble (No.4) — $5.00 / $2.00
Bet $10.50 Each Way ($5.25W + $5.25P), return $26.25 (wins) / $10.50 (places)
Prob 18.6% | Place: 53.8% | Value: 1.21x
Why He looks like he can sit in the midfield pressure zone and still deliver late, which is exactly what you want at 1000m.

2. Rivaldo (No.7) — $6.50 / $2.40
Bet Tracked
Prob 16.7% | Place: 47.0% | Value: 1.40x
Why The top pick's each-way already covers the place angle here — doubling up is paying twice for the same insurance. Tracked instead.

3. Brighella (No.3) — $6.50 / $2.40
Bet Tracked
Prob 13.2% | Place: 47.0% | Value: 1.11x
Why Capable of running a big race, but rank 3 place money isn't where I want to splash.

Roughie: Ring My Bell (No.10) — $9.50 / $3.10
Bet Tracked
Prob 9.6% | Place: 34.1% | Value: 1.19x
Why If the leaders get boxed and the pack stretches, he can swoop late and snag a spot in the finishing five-finger shuffle.

SEQUENCE LANES

Quaddie (R3-R6)

Smart: 1,9,10 / 1,2,9,7 / 1,3,2,7 / 4,3,7,10 (192 combos x $0.34 = $65.00) -- 34% flexi
One-line commentary: Three open legs in the middle, gotta respect the chaos. R3 and R4 tighten the decisions, but R5 and R6 are where you earn it, or learn humility.

NUGGETS FROM THE TRACK

1 - The wet-weather trap in disguise
With rain risk ticking higher later, late-running lanes that look "too far back" on paper turn into the money run if the leaders get stuck in the heavy-ish ground patches forming from the showers.

2 - Quirindi speed is king, but not all speed
Leaders are fine, but horses that can sit just off them and avoid getting boxed on the rail are the ones that make the straight look shorter.

3 - Gear changes aren't fluff today
Blinkers first time in Race 1 and Race 3 are the sort of changes that actually show intent, if the market shortens around those types, I'm listening with my wallet, not my ego.

FINAL WORD FROM THE SICKO SANCTUARY

Alright legends, this card is built for smart aggression. Back the spine early, let the open legs breathe, and if one roughie gets a clear lane, you'll hear me screaming from the couch like it's the final scene of a blockbuster. Gamble Responsibly.
