For all of Punty's tips for Kalgoorlie, head to https://punty.ai/tips/kalgoorlie-2026-10-18
Rightio Loose Units, Kalgoorlie's Good 4 and the rail's sitting +9m, so expect that classic WA "run straight and hope you've got enough in the tank" vibe. This card's a speed story early, then it turns into a keep-bag-open at the finish job in the back end.
First thing I'm doing is clocking where the races want to go, because with a Fine day and no rain, there's no excuse for a soft tempo that lets everything roll into the straight like it's a movie montage. Race 3 is the genuine pace cooker, Race 4 looks like a proper long-form grind at 1638, and by Race 6 you'll be watching a bunch of blokes go "too soon" then regret it.
My spine for today is three winners you can actually build a day around, then we spread the risk in the sequences because this track loves to punish anyone who tries to be too clever with one runner.
Gamble Responsibly.
MEET SNAPSHOT
Track: Good 4, 6 race card
Rail: +9m Entire
Official going: Good 4 (expected to play Fair early speed, keep it simple late)
Weather: Fine, watch for gusts 13km/h (small wind, can tweak straight-line finishing)
Early lane guess: Leaning inside-mid runners, but the leaders still get every chance on a Good 4
Tempo profile: Early races shaped by on-pace types, then the middle distance hunts the line
Jockeys to follow:
Austin Galati: Gets them in the right spot early, and he's active enough to capitalise when the pace is genuine.
Lucy F Fiore: Comes with finish when the rail and ground are kind, great for the on-pace profiles.
Chanel Cooper: Best when she can find rhythm mid-race and then reel them in late.
Stables to respect:
P J Fernie (18 runners): They send out plenty of chances, and they back their judgement with consistent map profiles.
P D Tapper (8 runners): Strong when there's something to press or a race sets up for forward movement.
Brett Drury (6 runners): The longer-term performers and distance-fit types are usually worth a look when he's involved.
Punty's take:
Kalgoorlie today is the sort of meeting where the "on-pace" horses get a cheeky unfair advantage, because the ground is tidy and everyone's moving pretty evenly early. Race 3 screams genuine pace with Whatyoutalkinbout to roll forward, so I'm thinking the leaders set it up and the rest just make it a survival show.
Up at 1638 in Race 4, Lanta looks like the class mover and Peanut Butter looks like the value closer type who can get into the right spot if the speed holds its honesty. Then Race 5 is one of those Heat races where the in-form metro-ish types tend to show up, especially when the leaders keep getting clear enough for their style.
Finally Race 6 at 1400 is a real "which bloke times the kick" race. Stylin' is the short-price magnet, but I'm more interested in More Likely as the value play if the tempo doesn't get too frantic, and Tacito is the kind of runner that can snatch a place if the front end goes too hard.
What it means for you:
If you're betting smart today, you're backing the correct map animals early, then you're buying your value where the race shape supports it. Race 3 and Race 5 are where I'd most want to have your eyes up, because those are the legs where a jockey decision or positioning can flip outcomes.
For the betting plan, we go aggressive around the Big 3 spine, then we widen just enough with a roughie in the races where the value is hiding behind a plausible excuse. The sequences are mainly there so we're not one bad barrier bounce away from staring at a dead ticket.
PUNTY'S BIG 3 + MULTI
These are the three bets the day leans on.
1 - Budino (Race 1, No.3) — $2.35
Why Looks like the maiden money horse, and the latest run excuse is stronger than it looks.
2 - Hello Veneta (Race 2, No.2) — $2.25
Why On-pace profile that should get a fair crack with the track playing honest.
3 - Door Buster (Race 5, No.3) — $3.40
Why Heat race set-up suits a runner who can strike early and then keep finding.
Multi (all three to win): $10 × ~18 = ~$180 collect
Race 1 – Esperance Bay Turf Club Mdn
Race type: Maiden, 1200m
Map & tempo: Slow Pace, with Budino and Filling With Water pencilled midfield to on-pace
Punty read:
This is a proper "first real test" maiden, and with the pace slow, you want a horse that can either punch early or be ready when the field bunches. Budino has the best mix of recent form and right kind of run style for a short 1200 on a Good 4. Filling With Water has the sharper tactical angle for place and can make it hard if the leaders shorten up early. Carbarlott's the one that's got enough going on to grab a top-three spot, while Hard To Top needs the ride to not get stuffed wide again.
Top 3 + Roughie ($12.00 pool)
1. Budino (No.3) — $2.40 / $1.40
Bet $12.00 Win, return $28.80
Prob 35.4% | Place: 46.1% | Value: 1.02x Steady since tip
Why Latest run was more traffic than failure, and the 1200 map doesn't ask him to do the impossible.
2. Filling With Water (No.5) — $3.10 / $1.62
Bet Tracked
Prob 25.8% | Place: 46.1% | Value: 1.14x Steady since tip
Why Only two places paid in a field this size, and skinny place divvies make savers a mug's game — this is a win-only race. Tracked, not staked.
3. Carbarlott (No.4) — $5.00 / $2.30
Bet Tracked
Prob 14.5% | Place: 32.7% | Value: 1.01x Steady since tip
Why Capable type, just not enough to justify a bigger slice when the pace stays slow.
Roughie: Vivalda (No.2) — $5.00 / $2.30
Bet Tracked
Prob 13.2% | Place: 29.3% | Value: 0.77x Steady since tip
Why Blinkers on help, but you still need a lot to go right at the right time.
Race 2 – Magic Millions Digital Hcp (C2)
Race type: Class 2, 1300m
Map & tempo: Moderate Pace, on-pace advantage style
Punty read:
This looks like Hello Veneta's race if she's allowed to keep breathing in the clear. She's the leader-type and the price is tight because she's the one they keep bringing back for a reason. Couldabeenahandbag is the value swing if the race doesn't turn into a straight sprint. Gold Lilly can pop into the trifecta picture if she gets the right pocket, but Spank Appeal's more of a confidence watch unless the field string up earlier than expected.
Top 3 + Roughie ($12.00 pool)
1. Hello Veneta (No.2) — $2.25 / $1.40
Bet $12.00 Win, return $27.00
Prob 34.9% | Place: 46.1% | Value: 1.03x Steady since tip
Why On-pace, drawn in the right lane to control the tempo, and the stable angle reads like intent.

Bet Tracked
Prob 22.8% | Place: 38.9% | Value: 1.26x Steady since tip

Prob 18.6% | Place: 38.9% | Value: 1.03x Steady since tip
Why Can run on, just not the main play in a race where the leader gets first dibs.
Roughie: Shimari (No.5) — $11.00 / $3.60
Bet Tracked
Prob 6.5% | Place: 17.8% | Value: 0.94x Steady since tip
Why Needs a full chaos script to land the finish, and today looks too structured for that.
Race 3 – Goldfields Industrial Solutions Hcp (C2)
Race type: Class 2, 1100m
Map & tempo: Genuine Pace, with Whatyoutalkinbout leading the charge
Punty read:
1100 at Kal is basically a sprint where everyone pretends they're patient. Whatyoutalkinbout wants to roll forward and take the race by the throat, and that sets up Alotofbanter and Sovereign Crust perfectly to stalk the tempo. Offshore is the grinder who can pick up pieces if the pace goes hard, while Fiendish is your wildcard for chaos, but you're kidding yourself if you're expecting him to win from the back in a sharp heat.
Top 3 + Roughie ($11.40 pool)
1. Alotofbanter (No.4) — $3.40 / $1.75
Bet $11.40 Win, return $38.76
Prob 24.4% | Place: 34.1% | Value: 1.09x Steady since tip
Why The pace suits, and he looks like the type that gets the right trip while others fight for air.
2. Whatyoutalkinbout (No.2) — $3.10 / $1.65
Bet Tracked
Prob 21.9% | Place: 34.1% | Value: 0.89x Steady since tip

3. Sovereign Crust (No.3) — $5.00 / $2.35
Bet Tracked
Prob 18.7% | Place: 24.4% | Value: 1.23x Steady since tip
Why Big gear change is interesting and the value profile is there, but we're backing the pace setup.
Roughie: Fiendish (No.7) — $51.00 / $12.00
Bet Tracked
Prob 1.1% | Place: 2.2% | Value: 0.78x Steady since tip
Why Backmarker roulette, you're only sweating him for a miracle run.
Race 4 – Force By Emeco Ray McGee Memorial Hcp (C2)
Race type: Class 2, 1638m
Map & tempo: Genuine Pace, with Lanta mapped to be on the go
Punty read:
This is the "staying power meets tactical positioning" race. 1638 on a Good 4 is where you separate the ones with real gears from the ones that just look pretty at the 400m mark. The Candy Kid can lead, but I'm not sold on him getting it done with that weight bump. Lanta is the likely live threat, and Peanut Butter at barrier 8 is the kind of runner who can still work into the fight if the pace doesn't collapse. Luminous Lady is your upset chance if she finds a clear lane to finish.
Top 3 + Roughie ($10.50 pool)
1. Lanta (No.2) — $2.90 / $1.37
Bet $10.50 Win, return $30.45
Prob 24.2% | Place: 61.5% | Value: 0.96x Steady since tip
Why On-pace profile and the run looks set up for him to keep eating into the line.
2. Peanut Butter (No.3) — $4.60 / $1.72
Bet Tracked
Prob 23.0% | Place: 46.1% | Value: 1.44x Steady since tip
Why A real chance — but at $1.72 the place the numbers don't give me enough edge to insure with. Watching, not betting.
3. The Candy Kid (No.1) — $4.00 / $1.60
Bet Tracked
Prob 11.6% | Place: 38.8% | Value: 0.63x Steady since tip
Why Likely to take them along, but the value isn't there for win.
Roughie: Luminous Lady (No.7) — $11.00 / $2.75
Bet Tracked
Prob 10.5% | Place: 38.8% | Value: 1.43x Steady since tip
Why Needs the race to set up for a late run, but if it does, she's the type that flashes home.
Race 5 – TABtouch Regional Championship Series Heat (Rs0mw)
Race type: Rest 0 Metro Wins, 1200m
Map & tempo: Moderate Pace, Chipilly-style pressure
Punty read:
This heat is a "who's actually switched on" race. Door Buster has the kind of profile where, if she gets into the flow early, she can keep travelling and then put the sword away in the straight. Morf is the leader-type and she's dangerous because she can build her own momentum, while Just Famous is the one who keeps running and collects the right gaps. Chipilly's the other leader, and if she gets the exact run she wants, she's a live danger.
Top 3 + Roughie ($10.50 pool)
1. Door Buster (No.3) — $3.40 / $1.40
Bet $10.50 Each Way ($5.25W + $5.25P), return $17.85 (wins) / $7.35 (places)
Prob 26.0% | Place: 60.2% | Value: 1.20x Steady since tip
Why Value plus forward movement, she's the one that can either lead or stalk and still finish.
2. Morf (No.2) — $3.60 / $1.40
Bet Tracked
Prob 25.0% | Place: 58.5% | Value: 1.21x Steady since tip
Why The top pick's each-way already covers the place angle here — doubling up is paying twice for the same insurance. Tracked instead.
3. Just Famous (No.1) — $3.00 / $1.25
Bet Tracked
Prob 24.0% | Place: 62.6% | Value: 0.98x Steady since tip
Why Deserves respect, but it's the value play that gets the money.
Roughie: Spangledstar (No.5) — $10.00 / $2.55
Bet Tracked
Prob 8.5% | Place: 33.3% | Value: 1.15x Steady since tip
Why Backmarker swing, you need the leaders to go hard enough for her to swoop.
Race 6 – Tonkin Newmarket (Bm58+)
Race type: BenchMark 58+, 1400m
Map & tempo: Genuine Pace, with Please Mizter and Lendanear both pressuring
Punty read:
1400 is where you want the right balance, not just speed. Stylin' is the market's centre of gravity, but I like More Likely for the value angle, because if the tempo is genuine, it can set up the runner who holds a line and doesn't panic. Tacito is the upside for the exact trifecta type of finish if the on-pace runners fight. Please Mizter is there to run a race in front, but the odds say he's already done the hard work in the public market's head.
Top 3 + Roughie ($13.00 pool)
1. Stylin' (No.2) — $2.90 / $1.40
Bet $13.00 Win, return $37.70
Prob 25.6% | Place: 62.8% | Value: 1.01x Steady since tip
Why Smart price, handy from midfield, and on a Good 4 she should get the run that turns into a finish.
2. Please Mizter (No.4) — $3.30 / $1.50
Bet Tracked
Prob 18.0% | Place: 59.5% | Value: 0.81x Steady since tip
Why A real chance — but at $1.50 the place the numbers don't give me enough edge to insure with. Watching, not betting.
3. More Likely (No.1) — $5.50 / $1.95
Bet Tracked
Prob 16.4% | Place: 46.1% | Value: 1.22x Steady since tip
Why The value is there, and the profile is solid, but the win focus is on Stylin'.
Roughie: Ideally (No.7) — $11.00 / $3.00
Bet Tracked
Prob 7.1% | Place: 29.3% | Value: 1.06x Steady since tip
Why Needs a trip, but if she gets it, she can earn a last-minute pay packet.
NUGGETS FROM THE TRACK
1 - The "Slow Early" Trick in Race 1
With a slow pace on a Good 4, maiden winners often come from horses that can handle a bunch, Budino's the type that gets that clean run.
2 - Value hides where the place divs get stingy
Race 2's value in Couldabeenahandbag is real, but today's structure makes win-only thinking sharper than trying to force a saver.
3 - Race 4 is a tactical long-grind, not a lottery
When it's 1638 and the tempo is genuine, Lanta's the kind of runner that keeps making the same run the whole way, which is what you want when the field starts to stretch.
SEQUENCE LANES
Early Quaddie not provided. Quaddie and Big 6 are the play, so here's the lane.
QUADDIE (R3–R6)
Smart: 2,4,3 / 2,3,7,1 / 1,3,2,5 / 2,4,1,7 (192 combos x $0.18 = $35.00) -- 18% flexi
Punty's take: Race 3 and 5 are nicely shaped for your quaddie life, but Race 6 is where you swing for the fences with a slightly wider leg, so it's entertainment with teeth.
FINAL WORD FROM THE SICKO SANCTUARY
This card's got enough on-pace shape to make the shorts feel right, but it's also the sort of meeting where one late-lane runner can still nick a slice of your soul. I'll take the Big 3 spine, then let the quaddie lanes do the grown-up gambling work. Gamble Responsibly.
