Punty's Early Mail
For all of Punty's tips for Nowra, head to https://punty.ai/tips/nowra-2026-10-18
Rightio Loose Units, Nowra on a Soft 7 where speed gets to the line first and the rest come home like they owe somebody money. This is one of those meetings where the right horse on the right part of the track does all the work for you, and one or two stinkers get rolled by a simple race shape. If you're chasing the chaos, chase it with a plan.
MEET SNAPSHOT
Track: Nowra, 1100-1400m card
Rail: +1m 1200m, 800m, +4m 800m, 350m, True remainder
Official going: Soft 7 (expected to play Speed to Stamina, with plenty of running room early)
Weather: Overcast (watch for gusts and hold-up trouble in the middle)
Early lane guess: Quieter inside saves, then you want a horse that can still peel wide on the turn
Tempo profile: Slow to moderate tempo early, so the leaders can afford to be patient, then go hunting late.
Jockeys to follow:
Alysha Collett: heaps of rides, and she lands in the money a lot
Damon Budler: consistent in these local circuits, usually ready for the job
Keagan Latham: often picks the right moment to shift gears, handles tricky races
Stables to respect:
Matthew Smith (5 runners): tends to have them primed for local conditions
Paul Murray (4 runners): shows up with live chances in country grades
Warren Ganderton (4 runners): when his horses are short, you better listen
Punty's take:
Nowra Soft 7 can turn races into a tactical chess match, but today the tempo is set up so the fast starters can keep their heads. You watch for horses that are mapped to hold position early, because once the track gets heavy, finding clean air is basically the hardest skill in racing.
I've got a clean spine for the day too. Race 1 is basically a pick-your-path sprint to the front, Race 5 is a two horse fight with a value angle, and Race 7 is the one where the favourite is a proper racehorse, not a social media post. From there, you either buy the right lanes, or you cop the chaos tax.
Stakes wise, I'm not trying to be a hero every race. I'll have you covered where the speed is right, then I'll throw one roughie at a price where the run is there if the race shape lines up. That's the Punty way, beer in one hand, ticket in the other, and zero patience for dead money.
What it means for you:
Your game plan is simple. Be aggressive in the races where the map has the leader or the stalker in the perfect spot, and in the two cases where the market is firming on something that already looks suited to Soft 7, back it like you mean it.
Race 2 is a "who's really been training" contest. I like the runner that can either hold up near the pace or sprint off it, because the tempo is moderate and the field will shuffle. Don't overreach past the front half of the field unless you're on a proper run into the race.
For the quaddie, you're going to need one open leg somewhere, but I've built it so you're not doing something stupid like spreading to the moon. This is a "skinny but sneaky" kind of day, with a bit of entertainment sprinkled on top for the degenerates.
PUNTY'S BIG 3 + MULTI
1 - Lady Mariana (Race 1, No.8) — $2.20
Why She's the classier baby in the race with the best finishing profile on Soft 7.
2 - Duck For Cover (Race 5, No.5) — $2.65
Why Proven to handle this sort of footing, and he gets a run from the right part of the map.
3 - Scoop The Pool (Race 7, No.6) — $2.15
Why The speed profile suits and he's the horse they want in the straight.
Multi (all three to win): $10 × ~13.00 = ~$130.00 collect
Race 1 – Michael 'Mick' Locke Memorial Country Boosted Mdn Plate
Race type: Maiden, 1100m
Map & tempo: Slow Pace, pace is at a premium, inside pressure helps
Punty read: Slow tempo means barrier and positioning matter more than people think. Lady Mariana (No.8) is the one I keep coming back to, she's drawn in the pocket and should be able to hold enough ground to sprint through the soft part of the track. Rebel Terra (No.6) is coming off a debut type run profile and the speed is there, so if she gets a comfortable run, she's dangerous. Cool As Ted (No.1) looks like the "gets a clear crack" horse, and on Soft 7 that's a real weapon.
Top 3 + Roughie ($12.00 pool)
1. Lady Mariana (No.8) — $2.20 / $1.12
Bet $12.00 Win, return $26.40
Prob 28.7% | Place: 70.0% | Value: 0.80x Steady since tip
Why Drawn to stalk, and she's the likeliest to run straight and hit the line hard.
2. Rebel Terra (No.6) — $3.40 / $1.35
Bet Tracked
Prob 25.9% | Place: 70.0% | Value: 0.96x Steady since tip
Why A real chance — but at $1.35 the place the numbers don't give me enough edge to insure with. Watching, not betting.
3. Cool As Ted (No.1) — $6.00 / $1.75
Bet Tracked
Prob 15.2% | Place: 46.1% | Value: 0.69x Steady since tip
Why If the race stays slow, his late sectionals and on pace map can pinch a place.
Roughie: Steffiewah (No.2) — $10.00 / $2.50
Bet Tracked
Prob 7.8% | Place: 33.3% | Value: 0.62x Steady since tip
Why Big price for a reason, but if she gets through the bumps clean, she can still weave into the finish.
Race 2 – AIS Certifiers Eddie Latta Memorial Country Boosted Hcp (C1)
Race type: Class 1, 1200m
Map & tempo: Moderate Pace, pace battle but softened by country tactics
Punty read: This is a classic 1200m "who travels and who gets stuck" race on Soft 7. Regor (No.2) is the on pace answer, and he's the sort of horse that can keep running without needing everything to go his way. Bound To Fire (No.9) is my value call, because he has the look of a horse that can sit on and then go again late, especially if the pack bunches up. Bold Conquer (No.6) has the leader map, so if he shows up early, he can hold on for the placings.
Top 3 + Roughie ($15.00 pool)
1. Regor (No.2) — $2.75 / $1.35
Bet $15.00 Win, return $41.25
Prob 23.4% | Place: 59.1% | Value: 0.83x Steady since tip
Why On pace map and the stable pattern makes him hard to ignore in a Class 1.
2. Bound To Fire (No.9) — $7.50 / $2.35
Bet Tracked
Prob 15.6% | Place: 46.1% | Value: 1.52x Steady since tip
Why A real chance — but at $2.35 the place the numbers don't give me enough edge to insure with. Watching, not betting.
3. Bold Conquer (No.6) — $5.00 / $1.80
Bet Tracked
Prob 15.0% | Place: 46.1% | Value: 0.97x Steady since tip
Why Leader type that can take a position, and that often pays in country 1200m.
Roughie: Jimmy's Ready (No.8) — $13.00 / $3.20
Bet Tracked
Prob 8.1% | Place: 29.8% | Value: 1.36x Steady since tip
Why The market drifting worries me a bit, but if he nails the run and the leaders tire, he's a real swooper option.
Race 3 – Kevin & Dawn Robinson Memorial (Bm58)
Race type: Benchmark 58, 1400m
Map & tempo: Genuine Pace, track asks for speed then endurance
Punty read: This is a proper race shape contest. Kool Kade (No.1) maps to be on pace and has the backbone to keep going, so she is your first swing for the win. Ciao Bella Mia (No.3) is the danger, he has the classier finish look and Soft 7 suits his run style. Perchance (No.9) is my third, because he can be in the right spot without needing to lead, and at 1400m that's gold.
Top 3 + Roughie ($10.50 pool)
1. Kool Kade (No.1) — $2.90 / $1.45
Bet $10.50 Win, return $30.45
Prob 23.8% | Place: 57.5% | Value: 0.91x Steady since tip
Why On pace, handles Soft, and the pace being genuine means he gets an honest run.
2. Ciao Bella Mia (No.3) — $5.50 / $1.90
Bet Tracked
Prob 19.3% | Place: 46.1% | Value: 1.39x Steady since tip
Why A real chance — but at $1.90 the place the numbers don't give me enough edge to insure with. Watching, not betting.
3. Perchance (No.9) — $5.50 / $2.05
Bet Tracked
Prob 16.3% | Place: 46.1% | Value: 1.17x Steady since tip
Why His recent pattern says he's thereabouts, and the 1400m is the sweet spot for him.
Roughie: Celestial Grace (No.6) — $14.00 / $3.60
Bet Tracked
Prob 4.5% | Place: 22.3% | Value: 0.83x Steady since tip
Why Needs a bit of luck in the run, but if the pace turns into a sprint from the turn, she can grab a slice.
Race 4 – Bede Murray Memorial (Bm58)
Race type: Benchmark 58, 1600m
Map & tempo: Moderate Pace, 1600m means positioning into the turn
Punty read: Snap Decision (No.2) has the map edge, and at 1600m on Soft 7 you want the one that can keep a rhythm without getting dragged too deep. Astrogazer (No.4) is the big live threat, and More Mischief (No.3) is the kind of horse that runs better than his price suggests when the field doesn't sprint early. Splendid Magnus (No.10) is the roughie because 1600m can create chaos late, especially when the rail keeps steering them into traffic.
Top 3 + Roughie ($10.50 pool)
1. Snap Decision (No.2) — $3.30 / $1.57
Bet $10.50 Win, return $34.65
Prob 27.3% | Place: 70.0% | Value: 1.16x Steady since tip
Why He's built for this, on the right part of the map, and he should be there when they straighten.
2. Astrogazer (No.4) — $4.80 / $1.95
Bet Tracked
Prob 20.2% | Place: 46.1% | Value: 1.25x Steady since tip
Why A real chance — but at $1.95 the place the numbers don't give me enough edge to insure with. Watching, not betting.
3. More Mischief (No.3) — $6.00 / $2.25
Bet Tracked
Prob 11.2% | Place: 46.1% | Value: 0.86x Steady since tip
Why On pace type with enough fitness to take a spot and not fold.
Roughie: Splendid Magnus (No.10) — $11.00 / $3.30
Bet Tracked
Prob 6.8% | Place: 29.5% | Value: 0.96x Steady since tip
Why If the race gets messy late, he can be the one sweeping through gaps in the soft.
Race 5 – CKB Civil Mollymook Cup (Bm66)
Race type: Benchmark 66, 1200m
Map & tempo: Slow Pace, short sprint so timing beats chasing
Punty read: This is a two horse world and the rest need something to go right. Duck For Cover (No.5) is the main speed presence, and on Soft 7 that can turn into a staying race when the field struggles to quicken. Alabama Showdown (No.4) is the obvious second, she's sharp enough and has the polish to pounce if the favourite gets a cheap run. Commanding Belle (No.2) is the third option if you want to back the midpack that can still get into clear air.
Top 3 + Roughie ($15.00 pool)
1. Duck For Cover (No.5) — $2.70 / $1.12
Bet $15.00 Each Way ($7.50W + $7.50P), return $20.25 (wins) / $8.40 (places)
Prob 35.8% | Place: 70.0% | Value: 1.23x Steady since tip
Why He's built for Soft 7, and the on pace map gives him the best chance to keep momentum.
2. Alabama Showdown (No.4) — $1.90 / $1.05
Bet Tracked
Prob 31.8% | Place: 70.0% | Value: 0.77x Steady since tip
Why The top pick's each-way already covers the place angle here — doubling up is paying twice for the same insurance. Tracked instead.
3. Commanding Belle (No.2) — $8.50 / $1.95
Bet Tracked
Prob 11.3% | Place: 46.1% | Value: 1.23x Steady since tip
Why Can sit close and surge late, and the Soft 7 does him favours.
Roughie: Nights Inferno (No.6) — $11.00 / $2.45
Bet Tracked
Prob 8.0% | Place: 34.1% | Value: 1.12x Steady since tip
Why If the leaders get bogged, he can still get into the right spot late and tag a place.
Race 6 – Broughton Landscapes Mdn Hcp
Race type: Maiden, 1200m
Map & tempo: Moderate Pace, chaotic maidens means lane matters
Punty read: Baylie's Folly (No.8) is my top pick because she looks like she can hold her ground and keep finding. Nicolosi (No.7) is the classic alternative, map says leader and that's a scary position on this track when the field is still getting used to Soft. Maccbi (No.1) is the third for value reasons, he's the kind of horse that can run into the finish if the speed doesn't completely collapse.
Top 3 + Roughie ($15.00 pool)
1. Baylie's Folly (No.8) — $3.70 / $1.65
Bet $15.00 Each Way ($7.50W + $7.50P), return $27.75 (wins) / $12.38 (places)
Prob 27.0% | Place: 65.5% | Value: 1.02x Steady since tip
Why Best chance to control the tempo, and Soft 7 should help her keep stretching.
2. Nicolosi (No.7) — $3.20 / $1.52
Bet Tracked
Prob 13.8% | Place: 53.9% | Value: 0.62x Steady since tip
Why The top pick's each-way already covers the place angle here — doubling up is paying twice for the same insurance. Tracked instead.
3. Maccbi (No.1) — $7.00 / $2.50
Bet Tracked
Prob 11.2% | Place: 38.9% | Value: 0.69x Steady since tip
Why If she gets a cart across the track, she can still be there late.
Roughie: Velastra (No.14) — $9.00 / $3.00
Bet Tracked
Prob 7.5% | Place: 32.7% | Value: 0.95x Steady since tip
Why Big price if she lands close and the leaders tire on the soft, then the lane opens up.
Race 7 – Turf Co Mdn Plate
Race type: Maiden, 1400m
Map & tempo: Slow Pace, long sprint so the stalking horses get paid
Punty read: Scoop The Pool (No.6) is the one I want on top. He's the speed profile that fits the Soft 7 and the longer straight means you can ride for position without panic. Tiger Turf (No.13) is the danger because he has the momentum to arrive late, and Kiss Of Gold (No.9) is a solid place option when races don't fully collapse early. Crestwood (No.8) is the roughie, because at 1400m it only takes one little misread to turn chaos into a cheque.
Top 3 + Roughie ($13.00 pool)
1. Scoop The Pool (No.6) — $2.15 / $1.15
Bet $13.00 Win, return $27.95
Prob 40.1% | Place: 70.0% | Value: 1.10x Steady since tip
Why He's the best fit for the track and the pace, and the straight will suit.
2. Tiger Turf (No.13) — $3.60 / $1.55
Bet Tracked
Prob 26.3% | Place: 70.0% | Value: 0.96x Steady since tip
Why A real chance — but at $1.55 the place the numbers don't give me enough edge to insure with. Watching, not betting.
3. Kiss Of Gold (No.9) — $5.00 / $1.72
Bet Tracked
Prob 13.1% | Place: 53.9% | Value: 0.72x Steady since tip
Why Not the main win threat, but he can still grind into a top three finish.
Roughie: Crestwood (No.8) — $20.00 / $3.80
Bet Tracked
Prob 3.2% | Place: 22.3% | Value: 0.82x Steady since tip
Why He's got that "swing wide and hit the line" profile, if the race breaks late.
SEQUENCE LANES
Quaddie (R4–R7)
Smart: 2,4,3,10 / 5,4,2,6 / 8,7,1,14 / 6,13,9 (192 combos x $0.18 = $35.00) -- 18% flexi
Punty's take: Two legs are tight-ish with the fav structure, but Race 4 and Race 6 still leave room for the messy maidens. Entertain it, don't worship it, and pray for clean running.
NUGGETS FROM THE TRACK
1 - Soft 7 loves the pocket, not the drama
If you're locked in midfield early on Soft 7 at Nowra, you're basically choosing your own traffic jam.
2 - Country 1200m, the late sprint is king
In Race 2 and Race 5, the winners are the ones that can keep changing gears without getting held up, not the ones that just look good on paper.
3 - The best value is usually a place plan
When the favourite is short and you're not getting paid for the win, you pivot to place leverage and let the race shape do the rest.
FINAL WORD FROM THE SICKO SANCTUARY
Alright legends, lock the Big 3 spine, then sprinkle in the lanes that can actually run on Soft 7. If you chase the wrong part of the map all day, the track will punish you like it owes money. Gamble Responsibly.
