Punty's Punts
Race type: Maiden, 1200m
Map & tempo: Slow pace, on-pace runners get the run, leaders should hold up late
Punty read: Coronation Day is drawn barrier 1 and has the on-pace map. In a slow tempo maiden, that's huge, because leaders get to choose the timing and everyone else ends up making ground late from awkward spots. Bel Song's had excuses, but she's still a backmarker type, and today you want the horse that does the work early, not one that has to beg for room late like it's trying to squeeze into a packed pub toilet line.
Top 3 + Roughie ($15.00 pool)
★ PUNTY'S PICK 1. Coronation Day (No.3) — $2.40 🏆 2ND
Bet $15.00 Win — ✗ Lost, net -$15.00
Prob 40.1% | Place: 55.0% | Value: 0.96x
Why Barrier 1 plus on-pace speed is the combo you want on a slow 1200m, and the betting is all-in.
2. Fyansford Flyer (No.4) — $2.85 🏆 4TH
Bet Tracked
Prob 28.3% | Place: 46.1% | Value: 0.81x
Why Only two places paid in a field this size, and skinny place divvies make savers a mug's game — this is a win-only race. Tracked, not staked.
3. Graphien (No.5) — $5.50 🏆 3RD
Bet Tracked
Prob 13.8% | Place: 32.4% | Value: 0.76x
Why Has the sectionals to be involved, just needs the race to stay honest enough for midfield to cash up.
Roughie: Miss Anchor (No.8) — $18.00 / $4.40 🏆 6TH
Bet Tracked
Prob 3.1% | Place: 9.2% | Value: 0.68x
Why The path is real if the tote lights up and the speed collapses, but she's more "sneaky place in a chaos world" than a win mission.
Race type: Benchmark 65, 1000m
Map & tempo: Moderate pace, sprint pressure, best chance comes from sitting close early
Punty read: Boomroux is the on-pacer who gets the perfect job. In these 1000m benchmarks, if you're near the speed early you get to control the run, and if you're too far back you're basically playing darts blindfolded. Highground and Salt Lake Betty look like they can run their way into the quinella money, but I'm trusting Boomroux as the main engine because it's the one that does not need luck to be competitive.
Top 3 + Roughie ($11.64 pool)
1. Boomroux (No.3) — $3.40 🏆 WINNER
Bet $11.64 Win — ✓ Won, net +$27.94
Prob 28.2% | Place: 34.1% | Value: 0.96x
Why On-pace profile and built for a quick sprint where leaders set it up and others struggle to pass.
2. Betta Than Presley (No.2) — $3.80 / $2.05 🏆 4TH
Bet Tracked
Prob 19.4% | Place: 32.9% | Value: 0.97x
Why Only two places paid in a field this size, and skinny place divvies make savers a mug's game — this is a win-only race. Tracked, not staked.
3. Salt Lake Betty (No.5) — $5.00 🏆 5TH
Bet Tracked
Prob 13.1% | Place: 24.1% | Value: 0.66x
Why Interference last time and draws are always tricky in 1000m sprints, so she's more for minor money.
Roughie: Highground (No.4) — $15.62 🏆 7TH
Bet Tracked
Prob 6.2% | Place: 16.7% | Value: 0.82x
Why He can sneak in underneath if the pace frays, but he's not my main storyline for win.
Race type: Class 3, 1000m
Map & tempo: Moderate pace with Saltclay advantaged, but Royalify can still own the front-end jump
Punty read: Royalify is the short price for a reason. He has that leader profile, and at 1000m the horse who sees the race first usually wins the argument at the line. Noble Intent can run into it late if the speed turns into a slow-motion car chase, and Tell Us Toll is the sort who can benefit from a messy race, but I'm not looking for a fairytale, I'm looking for the obvious to land.
Top 3 + Roughie ($12.67 pool)
1. Royalify (No.3) — $1.97 / $1.25 🏆 2ND
Bet $12.67 Win — ✗ Lost, net -$12.67
Prob 33.6% | Place: 46.1% | Value: 0.82x
Why Speed map says leader energy, and C3 form in this sprint setup usually rewards the on-top runner.
2. Noble Intent (No.1) — $3.00 🏆 UNPLACED
Bet Tracked
Prob 20.4% | Place: 32.7% | Value: 1.06x
Why Only two places paid in a field this size, and skinny place divvies make savers a mug's game — this is a win-only race. Tracked, not staked.
3. Tell Us Toll (No.7) — $9.20 / $3.70 🏆 4TH
Bet Tracked
Prob 12.5% | Place: 22.3% | Value: 1.43x
Why Big price value if the run turns into a sprint for home and the leaders wobble.
Roughie: Oakland Raider (No.2) — $7.00 🏆 UNPLACED
Bet Tracked
Prob 10.4% | Place: 22.3% | Value: 0.73x
Why Barrier extension can be the make-or-break, if he puts it together he's a live saver option.
Race type: Open Handicap, 1200m
Map & tempo: Moderate pace, speed advantage with Scorched Land and I Am Good At This but Peninsula looks safest
Punty read: Peninsula is the class of the picture here. He's been set up for this kind of straight 1200m role, and on Good, the early rhythm usually sticks around long enough for the better horse to separate. I'm Zac is the danger if he gets a clean run and can kick off the turn, while Scorched Land is right there as the genuine "if you blink, he's gone" type.
Top 3 + Roughie ($15.00 pool)
★ PUNTY'S PICK 1. Peninsula (No.3) — $1.90 🏆 4TH
Bet $15.00 Win — ✗ Lost, net -$15.00
Prob 40.8% | Place: 53.5% | Value: 0.78x
Why Pace map fits, he's the one that should get the trip with momentum, and he's not asking for favours.
2. I'm Zac (No.5) — $2.90 / $1.62 🏆 3RD
Bet Tracked
Prob 20.8% | Place: 46.1% | Value: 0.75x
Why Only two places paid in a field this size, and skinny place divvies make savers a mug's game — this is a win-only race. Tracked, not staked.
3. Scorched Land (No.2) — $6.00 🏆 2ND
Bet Tracked
Prob 14.5% | Place: 27.8% | Value: 0.87x
Why Midfield to the front in a handbreak race, just needs timing and room.
Roughie: I Am Good At This (No.4) — $15.00 / $4.20 🏆 6TH
Bet Tracked
Prob 7.0% | Place: 20.7% | Value: 1.31x
Why Big price if he turns it into a sprint battle, he has the class to clunk a place and maybe pinch a win.
Race type: Class 5, 1300m
Map & tempo: Moderate pace with Yes Larry getting a tempo edge, but the back end only needs one crack
Punty read: This is a "leaders get every chance" 1300m, Yes Larry is the one with the map to keep things rolling. But it is also the kind of race where the right runner can swoop if they avoid getting shuffled back too far. Regal Judgement and Deferential look like they're there to pick off the tired ones, but I'm backing the one with the speed map and job description.
Top 3 + Roughie ($13.00 pool)
1. Yes Larry (No.8) — $2.85 🏆 2ND
Bet $13.00 Win — ✗ Lost, net -$13.00
Prob 29.4% | Place: 63.4% | Value: 0.84x
Why Backmarker-ish style name, but speed-map says he's closer than you think and he's hard to run down if he hits the line with momentum.
2. Schmoozer (No.4) — $4.50 / $1.72 🏆 WINNER
Bet Tracked
Prob 16.2% | Place: 51.1% | Value: 0.98x
Why A real chance — but at $1.72 the place the numbers don't give me enough edge to insure with. Watching, not betting.
3. Regal Judgement (No.3) — $4.60 🏆 3RD
Bet Tracked
Prob 14.7% | Place: 46.1% | Value: 0.68x
Why Often there for the money, but I'm not outrunning the odds at the price.
Roughie: You Kay Squeeze (No.9) — $9.00 / $2.55 🏆 UNPLACED
Bet Tracked
Prob 9.8% | Place: 34.5% | Value: 1.19x
Why The path is pressure and chaos late, if they bunch up he can slice through.
Race type: Benchmark 50, 1200m
Map & tempo: Genuine pace, pace advantage around the spread, and the leaders should set it up
Punty read: Valiant Joan is the one I want on top in a real pace race. With so many runners that can keep pressure on, you want the horse that still holds position and doesn't get bullied in the first half. Straya Pride is your second heartbeat, and Run Freda Run is the roughie type that can sneak into the finish if the pace spills.
Top 3 + Roughie ($10.50 pool)
1. Valiant Joan (No.11) — $4.40 🏆 WINNER
Bet $10.50 Each Way ($5.25W + $5.25P) — ✓ Won, net +$25.20
Prob 21.8% | Place: 70.0% | Value: 0.96x
Why Pace race suits her style, and the place value here is massive if the tempo turns into a long grind.
2. Straya Pride (No.13) — $4.20 🏆 4TH
Bet Tracked
Prob 15.8% | Place: 53.7% | Value: 0.66x
Why The top pick's each-way already covers the place angle here — doubling up is paying twice for the same insurance. Tracked instead.
3. Holy Holy Holy (No.5) — $4.20 / $1.72 🏆 2ND
Bet Tracked
Prob 12.4% | Place: 46.1% | Value: 0.65x
Why Blinkers first time might help, but at this price she's more of a place punch than win artillery.
Roughie: Run Freda Run (No.9) — $14.00 / $3.90 🏆 UNPLACED
Bet Tracked
Prob 7.4% | Place: 33.3% | Value: 1.30x
Why If the leaders burn themselves out, he's the type who can come from midfield and hit the line running.
Race type: Open Handicap, 1600m
Map & tempo: Slow pace, so positioning and finishing power decide it, not raw sprint speed
Punty read: This is the big staying hustle, slow tempo means the race doesn't open up early, so you want a horse that can find a spot, then make one strong move. Green Shadows looks like the best blend of class and finish, Little Cointreau is the inside speed danger, and Testator Silens can win if the run comes to him late and the jockey times the switch.
Top 3 + Roughie ($13.00 pool)
1. Green Shadows (No.2) — $5.78 🏆 WINNER
Bet $13.00 Each Way ($6.50W + $6.50P) — ✓ Won, net +$40.17
Prob 21.4% | Place: 46.1% | Value: 1.49x
Why Slow 1600m suits her if she gets a stalking run, and the place value here is screaming.
2. Little Cointreau (No.5) — $2.90 / $1.40 🏆 UNPLACED
Bet Tracked
Prob 18.7% | Place: 50.4% | Value: 0.68x
Why The top pick's each-way already covers the place angle here — doubling up is paying twice for the same insurance. Tracked instead.
3. Testator Silens (No.1) — $4.60 🏆 2ND
Bet Tracked
Prob 14.8% | Place: 53.9% | Value: 0.68x
Why If the pace stays slow and he gets cover, he can pop out and grab a slice of the action.
Roughie: Victory Bay (No.4) — $10.50 / $3.10 🏆 4TH
Bet Tracked
Prob 7.2% | Place: 29.3% | Value: 0.96x
Why He's got the type of finish that can benefit from a compact field and a late run opening.
That's the ticket as I struck it — the legs below are exactly what ran, no rewriting history.
Smart: 3,5,2 / 8,4,3,9 / 11,13,5,9 / 1,5,2,4 (192 combos x $0.26 = $50.00) -- 26% flexi
The day's multi leans on three win legs across the card.
1 - Coronation Day (Race 1, No.3)✗ — $2.32
2 - Royalify (Race 3, No.3)✗ — $1.97
3 - Peninsula (Race 4, No.3)✗ — $2.50

Punty's Early Mail
Rightio Loose Units, Longreach on Good is the kind of track where the early dashers get first crack at the money, then everyone else spends the last 300m trying to make a mountain out of a molehill. It is a 1200m to 1600m kinda card, rail True, pace profile looks lively early in a few races, and the betting markets are giving us plenty of "too short" and "what the hell happened" moments.
This meeting has that classic Longreach vibe where the leaders can run a clean trip and the value is in the ones who either sit just behind them, or have the right gear to turn a midfield shuffle into a straight run at the line. We've got a spine of three standouts across the card, then a couple of races where I want coverage because the tempo and class mix can turn winners into "almost legends" real quick.
MEET SNAPSHOT
Track: Longreach, sprint to middle distance 1000-1600m card
Rail: True
Official going: Good (expected to play Fast and decisive, leaders hold value)
Weather: Mostly sunny, 28°C, humidity 31%, watch for gusty pockets (conditions look dry, no mud excuses)
Early lane guess: Inside to mid, with rail True, the swoopers still need luck
Tempo profile: A few moderate to genuine speed races early, then handbrakes off through the middle distances
Jockeys to follow:
John Rudd: Gets them into the right spot and keeps it rolling when the leaders flatten out
Raul Silvera Olivera: Often turns a "parked and praying" run into a straight sprint at the line
Paul Hamblin: One of those blokes who makes a plan, then makes the horse execute it
Stables to respect:
P W O'Toole (8 runners): Shows up in the finishes, especially when gear changes sharpen them
H C Forster (5 runners): Loves Good ground, and his horses are usually ready to travel first time up
Richard Simpson (3 runners): When the market moves and the trip maps, he's the one to fear
Punty's take:
If you're chasing clean racing and you like horses that go where the map says, you're in the right state of mind today. The tempo is set for a couple of front-running scripts, and that means the "oh yeah, they'll just run on" types need to actually get into the race early, otherwise they're doing the long walk home while everyone else hits the line.
Race 1 is a textbook Longreach maiden where one horse is likely to control things, then the others fight for that second run through the line. Race 3 has the clear "one stands out" vibe, but don't sleep on the mid market value because the backmarker types can get a run if leaders get too brave.
Then Race 4 is where I'm building the spine, Peninsula just looks like the sort who gets the trip with confidence. From there, we've got a couple of races where the short priced crowd might be missing the danger, especially when markets have that weird "heavy support, why" feel.
What it means for you:
Back the ones that suit the track shape, and don't overthink it when the race is built for pace. In the sprint races, barriers and early position matter more than usual, so your bets should be anchored around horses that can land close without needing a miracle.
For the value punts, I'm leaning into the runners with a path to win through either gear, a cleaner trip, or a genuine chance to run down leaders as they tire. But when the bookies are getting hammered and shortening hard, I'm treating those as "respect" not "touch everything".
So, game plan: build around the Big 3 winners for the day's rhythm, then use Roughies and lanes for the chaos tax. You get paid when you're right, you learn when you're cooked. Either way, you're at the pub.
