Punty's Punts
Race type: Maiden, 1000m
Map & tempo: Moderate pace, leaders are in play (Better Rein It In, Asternal Love), and the early speed isn't slow-motion
Punty read: This is the kind of maiden where the winner usually looks like they're already switched on at the 200m mark. Our Brave Boy has the pace presence to park near the action, and with the gear adjustments, he's set up to translate that speed into a clean finish. Czech Out's had excuses, but he's the one I'm watching for a big improvement after the slow start story. If the inside speed holds, Our Brave Boy's the one that keeps everyone honest, kind of like a lead character in a thriller movie, refusing to get knocked off early.
Top 3 + Roughie ($15.00 pool)
★ PUNTY'S PICK 1. Our Brave Boy (No.7) — $2.20 / $1.30 🏆 3RD
Bet $15.00 Win — ✗ Lost, net -$15.00
Prob 46.8% | Place: 70.0% | Value: 1.13x
Why He's built to sit close, and the gear combo says they want him in rhythm, not getting stuck thinking about it.
2. Czech Out (No.2) — $5.00 / $2.00 🏆 WINNER
Bet Tracked
Prob 11.7% | Place: 46.1% | Value: 0.48x
Why A real chance — but at $2.00 the place the numbers don't give me enough edge to insure with. Watching, not betting.
3. Stage Coach (No.9) — $9.50 / $3.10 🏆 5TH
Bet Tracked
Prob 6.9% | Place: 32.7% | Value: 1.03x
Why He can run on for a place, but I'm not loving it enough to splash on winside when the pace is map-friendly.
Roughie: Asternal Love (No.16) — $11.00 / $3.00 🏆 4TH
Bet Tracked
Prob 8.1% | Place: 34.1% | Value: 1.10x
Why If the speed gets messy he can creep into the finish, but he's more for exotics than paying for disappointment straight up.
Race type: Class 2, 1200m
Map & tempo: Moderate pace, Golden Cloud and Tripod Terror are the style types for the tempo
Punty read: Purfect Line looks like the one they've kept aimed for this, and the race shape suits a horse that can stalk without needing a miracle. Golden Cloud is the favourite for a reason but the market might be a touch ahead of itself if she gets trapped. Obucci has a blinkers first time and can jump a notch. This feels like a race where you want to be on the right horse early, not the right horse after 600m.
Top 3 + Roughie ($10.50 pool)
1. Purfect Line (No.3) — $5.00 / $1.95 🏆 5TH
Bet $10.50 Each Way ($5.25W + $5.25P) — ✗ Lost, net -$10.50
Prob 20.7% | Place: 46.1% | Value: 1.27x
Why The stalking profile fits, and the market support for this stable vibe is loud without needing smoke.
2. Golden Cloud (No.9) — $4.80 / $1.95 🏆 WINNER
Bet Tracked
Prob 16.1% | Place: 46.1% | Value: 0.89x
Why The top pick's each-way already covers the place angle here — doubling up is paying twice for the same insurance. Tracked instead.
3. Obucci (No.5) — $5.00 / $2.00 🏆 9TH
Bet Tracked
Prob 15.2% | Place: 46.1% | Value: 1.03x
Why Blinkers first time can help, but I'm keeping the cash on Purfect Line as the main character.
Roughie: Brimarvi Rosemarie (No.10) — $10.00 / $3.30 🏆 2ND
Bet Tracked
Prob 7.4% | Place: 28.6% | Value: 0.91x
Why She can run into the trifecta conversation if she finds a clear lane, but that's not guaranteed with this field shape.
Race type: Benchmark 68, 1200m
Map & tempo: Genuine pace, From The Block is the leader, so midfield pressure is real
Punty read: This is speed vs finish. From The Block is setting up as the honest leader, and horses that can sit within striking distance are the danger. Halliwell and Mostly For Show both look like they can jump into the race when the front pair start to sweat, and the bounce-back angles make them sneaky. Surprise Coming is the one that could pop up because she runs her race style even when others get chewed up. If you're chasing one winner, I'd rather be on the ones that can be in the right spot at the 400m than the ones waiting to "see what happens".
Top 3 + Roughie ($10.50 pool)
1. From The Block (No.4) — $3.90 / $1.72 🏆 WINNER
Bet $10.50 Win — ✓ Won, net +$30.45
Prob 17.1% | Place: 46.1% | Value: 0.78x
Why He maps to lead, and even if the race gets spicy, he's the horse that gives you a fighting chance of staying in front long enough.
2. Riche D'amour (No.9) — $4.80 / $1.95 🏆 3RD
Bet Tracked
Prob 12.8% | Place: 46.1% | Value: 0.87x
Why A real chance — but at $1.95 the place the numbers don't give me enough edge to insure with. Watching, not betting.
3. Halliwell (No.12) — $8.50 / $2.85 🏆 UNPLACED
Bet Tracked
Prob 12.5% | Place: 38.9% | Value: 1.31x
Why The value is there, and she's the type that can storm into the finish if the pace doesn't flatten.
Roughie: Mostly For Show (No.6) — $10.00 / $3.10 🏆 UNPLACED
Bet Tracked
Prob 7.4% | Place: 28.0% | Value: 0.90x
Why If traffic and timing fall her way, she's the "why is that thing cruising?" runner.
Race type: Restricted 64, 1600m
Map & tempo: Moderate pace, and the on-pacers have a fair line
Punty read: Longer Route is the horse you want to be forgiving on, because he doesn't need to do everything, just needs to be in the right part of the track and then let the distance do the rest. Uptown Monk is backed for a reason but I don't mind having the main money on the horse that looks like he's set up to control the outcome without getting dragged into a death march. Blackjack and Asal are the danger runners because they've both got enough tactical speed to be in the finish if they get an economical run.
Top 3 + Roughie ($13.00 pool)
1. Longer Route (No.1) — $5.00 / $2.00 🏆 4TH
Bet $13.00 Each Way ($6.50W + $6.50P) — ✗ Lost, net -$13.00
Prob 24.4% | Place: 46.1% | Value: 1.20x
Why He's bred for this sort of work, and the on-pace profile at 1600m usually means less chaos.
2. Blackjack (No.8) — $9.50 / $3.10 🏆 WINNER
Bet Tracked
Prob 12.0% | Place: 32.7% | Value: 1.32x
Why The top pick's each-way already covers the place angle here — doubling up is paying twice for the same insurance. Tracked instead.
3. Asal (No.5) — $8.50 / $2.90 🏆 5TH
Bet Tracked
Prob 11.7% | Place: 32.7% | Value: 1.29x
Why Value is solid and his sectionals type suits, but I want the cash anchored to the main trip-maker.
Roughie: Hysterical Lady (No.13) — $11.00 / $3.50 🏆 12TH
Bet Tracked
Prob 5.9% | Place: 24.1% | Value: 0.79x
Why She's a place chance if the race opens up late, but she's got to dodge the pocket drama.
Race type: Benchmark 74, 2500m
Map & tempo: Moderate pace, staying race where position matters early
Punty read: Staying races are where punters either get religion or get cooked. Nottolook is the one I want because he's short enough to reflect his real chance, but he's also got the staying profile to keep running when the others start parking. Suit Of Wands is the classic "he's there until he's not" danger, and Princess Painton can run on if she gets a cleaner passage than the back markers usually do. This is a race where the leaders might still be there at 600m, but at 200m it's about who still has gas.
Top 3 + Roughie ($10.50 pool)
1. Nottolook (No.6) — $2.10 / $1.25 🏆 WINNER
Bet $10.50 Win — ✓ Won, net +$11.55
Prob 28.8% | Place: 63.2% | Value: 0.74x
Why The staying profile plus tactical practicality, he's the easiest win justification on the card.
2. Haaland (No.5) — $8.00 / $2.75 🏆 7TH
Bet Tracked
Prob 13.1% | Place: 46.1% | Value: 0.89x
Why A real chance — but at $2.75 the place the numbers don't give me enough edge to insure with. Watching, not betting.
3. Suit Of Wands (No.10) — $11.00 / $3.40 🏆 4TH
Bet Tracked
Prob 10.5% | Place: 34.1% | Value: 1.42x
Why The upside is there if the pace doesn't collapse, he's the one who can turn a quiet run into a finish.
Roughie: Geetee Forty (No.13) — $16.00 / $4.20 🏆 5TH
Bet Tracked
Prob 8.5% | Place: 32.7% | Value: 1.67x
Why If the staying race turns into a speed fight, she's the one that can tack on for a rude return.
Race type: Restricted 68, 1400m
Map & tempo: Moderate pace, on-pacers still get every chance
Punty read: Florey in this spot is my favourite style because he's the sort of runner who doesn't need the perfect run, just a reasonable trip and the right moment. Chipson and Extinguish are the tactical threats, and Dirty Deal can sneak into the finish if traffic breaks late. This race screams "be on the right part of the track early", because 1400m at Murray Bridge can punish anyone who settles too deep with no cover.
Top 3 + Roughie ($10.00 pool)
1. Florey (No.9) — $5.00 / $2.00 🏆 3RD
Bet $10.00 Win — ✗ Lost, net -$10.00
Prob 16.9% | Place: 38.8% | Value: 1.27x
Why The class and map combo makes him a proper chance, and he looks like he'll be hitting the line rather than just warming up.
2. Final Countdown (No.15) — $7.00 / $2.50 🏆 WINNER
Bet Tracked
Prob 13.9% | Place: 38.9% | Value: 1.21x
Why A real chance — but at $2.50 the place the numbers don't give me enough edge to insure with. Watching, not betting.
3. Chipson (No.4) — $9.00 / $3.00 🏆 11TH
Bet Tracked
Prob 10.4% | Place: 34.1% | Value: 1.17x
Why Place chance looks strong, but I'm not forcing winside when Florey is the main event.
Roughie: Extinguish (No.8) — $9.00 / $3.00 🏆 7TH
Bet Tracked
Prob 9.9% | Place: 32.7% | Value: 1.24x
Why If he lands a good position early and the rail isn't eating lanes, he can blitz late.
Race type: Restricted 64, 1100m
Map & tempo: Genuine pace, with Simply Mac's speed pattern driving the race
Punty read: Heart Of The Med looks like the one who can take advantage of the pace without getting dragged into the fight too early. Blanc Visage and Royal Turf are the on-paper threats for the finish, and Meg's Magic can run on like she's got unfinished business. This is the sort of 1100 where barriers and timing matter, because if you're stuck behind the wrong horse at the wrong moment, you're stuffed.
Top 3 + Roughie ($6.50 pool)
1. Heart Of The Med (No.10) — $5.00 / $2.00 🏆 WINNER
Bet $6.50 Win — ✓ Won, net +$26.00
Prob 20.5% | Place: 46.1% | Value: 1.07x
Why Pace helps, and she's the type to hit the line with intent, not just follow along hoping.
2. Royal Turf (No.12) — $5.00 / $2.00 🏆 9TH
Bet Tracked
Prob 15.5% | Place: 46.1% | Value: 0.96x
Why A real chance — but at $2.00 the place the numbers don't give me enough edge to insure with. Watching, not betting.
3. Blanc Visage (No.7) — $6.00 / $2.25 🏆 2ND
Bet Tracked
Prob 13.6% | Place: 46.1% | Value: 1.01x
Why Could place cleanly, but I'm not paying for a near miss when Heart Of The Med looks more direct.
Roughie: Simply Mac (No.9) — $12.00 / $3.80 🏆 6TH
Bet Tracked
Prob 7.9% | Place: 29.3% | Value: 0.99x
Why If the leaders split and she gets a run through the middle, she's the surprise packet.
Race type: Benchmark 74, 1000m
Map & tempo: Hot pace, and the pressure makes it a knife fight early
Punty read: Never Ordinary is the one I want because she's sitting in the pocket where hot 1000m races usually reward you, not punish you. Omaha Dawn is a genuine threat for the win if the pace doesn't collapse, and Daisydoo is the one to watch for place runs if lanes open. This is a race where tempo does the talking, the speed is real, so you want horses that can hold composure and not overcook.
Top 3 + Roughie ($10.00 pool)
1. Never Ordinary (No.16) — $6.00 / $2.25 🏆 15TH
Bet $10.00 Each Way ($5.00W + $5.00P) — ✗ Lost, net -$10.00
Prob 19.4% | Place: 46.1% | Value: 1.43x
Why In a hot run, she's built to keep rolling, and the value is screaming if she runs her style.
2. Omaha Dawn (No.9) — $5.50 / $2.15 🏆 14TH
Bet Tracked
Prob 17.7% | Place: 46.1% | Value: 1.30x
Why The top pick's each-way already covers the place angle here — doubling up is paying twice for the same insurance. Tracked instead.
3. Daisydoo (No.14) — $5.50 / $2.15 🏆 8TH
Bet Tracked
Prob 11.5% | Place: 38.9% | Value: 0.59x
Why She's short, but I'm not chasing a win when the value and edge sit elsewhere.
Roughie: Up The Den (No.18) — $11.00 / $3.50 🏆 WINNER
Bet Tracked
Prob 8.0% | Place: 29.3% | Value: 1.08x
Why If the tempo kicks and there's late room, he can sneak into the finish for a cheeky place.
Race type: Benchmark 74, 1600m
Map & tempo: Moderate pace, where midfield timing can turn into a sprint lane
Punty read: Snoopy Now is the on-pace anchor you want for a 1600m prelude, because he's consistent, and he's set up to arrive close enough to pounce. Fast Tempo is the type who can lead into the finish but he's not as secure in the value department today. Freedom Flame and Hard Prince are the danger runners if the race splits late, and Mellifluent is the one that can run on if you get a clear run and a patient ride.
Top 3 + Roughie ($13.00 pool)
1. Snoopy Now (No.1) — $4.60 / $1.95 🏆 3RD
Bet $13.00 Each Way ($6.50W + $6.50P) — Cashed, net -$0.33
Prob 20.3% | Place: 54.1% | Value: 1.20x
Why Barrier 1, on-pace style, and at 1600m that usually means less trouble, more finish.
2. Freedom Flame (No.11) — $4.60 / $1.85 🏆 WINNER
Bet Tracked
Prob 18.8% | Place: 53.6% | Value: 1.02x
Why The top pick's each-way already covers the place angle here — doubling up is paying twice for the same insurance. Tracked instead.
3. Fast Tempo (No.5) — $3.90 / $1.70 🏆 5TH
Bet Tracked
Prob 16.5% | Place: 54.4% | Value: 0.82x
Why He can win, but the value isn't there when Snoopy Now's the better bet geometry.
Roughie: Mellifluent (No.12) — $13.00 / $3.30 🏆 9TH
Bet Tracked
Prob 6.3% | Place: 27.8% | Value: 1.02x

Punty's Early Mail
Rightio Loose Units, it's a Good 4 with showers lurking in the wings, rail's True, and the sort of day where the early leaders can get away clean… until they don't. If the heavens decide to have a little nibble mid-meeting, expect the back-half to suddenly remember they're capable of racing.
We're going in with a spine you can build your whole tote ticket around, then we sprinkle in a couple of "yeah alright, that's why you're here" roughies. Big picture, Races 1-3 are about getting positioned early, Races 4-6 are where the class filters through, and the back end (7-9) is where the map and the market usually stop lying.
Alright, let's get to it. No fluff, just fights, tactics, and which horses should be closest to the speed when the kick turns on.
MEET SNAPSHOT
Track: Murray Bridge GH, 1000-2500m card
Rail: True
Official going: Good 4 (expected to play Speed vs Stamina, with on-pacers holding the advantage)
Weather: Showers around, 16°C, rain risk 40%+ at multiple times, watch for a late cloud burst (watch for gusts and wet overlays)
Early lane guess: Speed up on the inside early, then wide running room opens late
Tempo profile: Genuine to moderate tempo early, with several races suited to stalkers if the leaders get cooked
Jockeys to follow:
Jockey to follow No. Noel Callow: Often sharp between the panels, loves putting horses in the right part of the track
Jockey to follow No. Connor Murtagh: Clean hands through traffic, big on winning positions rather than late heroics
Jockey to follow No. Todd Pannell: If the pace is on, he times the assault and doesn't waste gallops
Stables to respect:
Trainer: Phillip & Tommy Stokes (6 runners): The "place getters can win" kind of stable, especially when their runner gets a run in the race
Trainer: Garret Lynch (4 runners): Targets the right day, often shows up with a tactical plan rather than prayer
Trainer: David Jolly & Justin Potter (4 runners): Their horses keep finding the line, particularly in events where the pace is legitimate
Punty's take:
This track is a ratbag when it rains properly, because Murray Bridge can turn into "who's still rolling at the 200m" real quick. But today it's a Good 4 with shower risk, so you're basically punting the early sections, and then trusting the ones who can translate speed into a finish.
Race 1 is a classic Murray Bridge maiden, moderate pace, and the inside is still gold. Our Brave Boy looks like the horse that's going to sit handy and keep making the others work, even if he's had some bad luck in recent runs. The gear too is interesting, and when you see them fiddling with nose bands and crossovers, I pay attention, because it usually means the "get it right" knob got turned.
By Race 5 to 6, we're moving into the staying and benchmark grind where the market starts to matter more than vibes, but I'm still backing the ones that fit the shape. Nottolook in Race 5 is your "short price for a reason" job, and Longer Route in Race 4 has the profile of a horse that just needs the right trip. Then we get the late card where the faster horses can still win if the race doesn't strangle, so we're keeping our eyes on Omaha Dawn and Snoopy Now types for the finish.
What it means for you:
Your safest aggression is Place and Each Way, but your value comes when you're brave enough to back the win side when the pace and gear line up. That's why my spine is built on Our Brave Boy, Nottolook, and Longer Route. When three horses like that come up in three different races, it lets you press without going full degenerate overspread.
Strategy-wise, I'd treat the early races like a map puzzle. If you're not on speed or close enough to follow it, you're relying on luck and late room. Then in Races 6-9, you can be a bit wider, because there's usually more chaos late from traffic and timing. Still, I'm not binning the fundamentals, I'm just letting the runners with actual running style do the heavy lifting.
Now, let's go race-by-race, where I'll tell you who's doing the job early, who's waiting for the kick, and where the roughies can turn a "meh" day into a story you tell next week.
