Punty's take:

Heavy 8 at Mudgee is a proper slow grind, so I'm prioritising horses that can either control the tempo, or at least sit close enough to pounce when rivals start dropping stitches. If you're too far back you're basically hoping for a movie ending with a horse you can't see, and the sequel never pays.

The day's got a couple of races where the leaders look like they'll get first dibs, but also a bunch where the "run-on at the finish" horses are your bread and butter. If you've been burned by backmarkers on wet tracks before, relax, today I'm steering us toward ones that actually get a realistic shot.

And listen, when you've got a Big 3 made up of horses that map to the right spots, you stop overthinking and you back it like you mean it. No hero worship, just good racing.

I'm making the punting game plan simple.
Race 1 and Race 3 are where I want to be confident and not playing scared. Race 2 is a classic "wait for the leader to soften" job, and I reckon the favourite does the heavy lifting. The late-race chaos still exists though, so roughies are there for a reason, not for vibes.

Vondel is drawn to be in the right spot, and when the tempo is slow, being on pace is money. Green Pineapple looks like the classic "run on and upset your margins" type too.
