For all of Punty's tips for Port Hedland, head to https://punty.ai/tips/port-hedland-2026-06-20

Rightio Loose Units, Port Hedland is serving up a fair dinkum Good-track grinder: rail true, sunshine on the deck, and a chilly SE breeze that’ll keep the tempo honest without turning it into a trackwork trial. This one’s got a proper mix of "go forward and hang on" races and a few open-bunch headaches where one bad ride has you reaching for the inhaler.

MEET SNAPSHOT

Track: Port Hedland, 1200m-1600m card
Rail: True
Official going: Good (expected to play fair, with a handy/on-pace lean)
Weather: Sunny, 12°C, humidity 46%, wind 16km/h SE (watch for the cold breeze and a bit of sting in the straight)
Early lane guess: Fair-to-on-pace; if you can sit handy or land in the first four without burning petrol, you’re in the right postcode
Tempo profile: Moderate on paper, but the quaddie legs are proper open-bunch races - one bad map and you’re cooked
Jockeys to follow:
Jason Li(a3/49kg) — light claim, tactical nous, and a knack for landing on horses that can stalk the speed without doing extra work.
Ms Sharni Webster(a2/51.5kg) — gets plenty of live rides and the claim helps in these scratchy little handicaps.
Rocky Cheung(a1.5/50kg) — featherweight setup, dangerous when the map gives him a soft trail or an uncontested lead.
Stables to respect:
Brett Pope (26 runners) — has half the meeting in the chute and enough live chances to make this card a proper Pope-a-thon.
Timothy Pike (7 runners) — a few of his map up beautifully and they’re not here for decoration.
T N Pike (7 runners) — another yard with a couple of key darts; when the right one rolls up, they can pinch a race.

Punty's take:

This is a Port Hedland card where the horses that can hold a spot early are worth their weight in sausages. The true rail on a Good deck usually means you don’t want to be blazing a trail from the car park unless you’re the absolute bunny-hugger of the race; handy types get first crack and the rest need luck, tempo, or a miracle from the racing gods.

Race 1 is a proper maiden squeeze job: My Tea looks the right sort of favourite, not because she’s a superstar, but because she’s the one with the blinkers first time and the map to keep knocking on the door. Race 2 and Race 3 are tactical enough to hurt mug punters who try to get too clever, while Races 4, 5 and 6 are where the day turns into a bit of a Netflix thriller - plenty of runners, plenty of angles, and a few drifters that’ll test your religion.

The market’s already had a nibble at a few of them too - Ray’s Sauce, Holdout, Missile Girl, Bartime, Reel Serenity - so there’s enough smoke to make you look twice. Some of that money makes sense, some of it’s just punters sniffing a story. Don’t chase every drift, and don’t marry every firmed-up runner either. That’s how blokes end up explaining to the missus why the “certainty” got beat by a horse that looked like it’d been assembled at Bunnings.

What it means for you:

Keep the aggression for the races where the map and the price line up. The place money is your best mate today - this meeting has enough open shapes that trying to knock over every race on the nose is a fast track to therapy.

If you want to get paid, lean into the horses that can sit handy, get cover, and get their chance without needing ten things to go right. That’s why the maidens and the open-bunch handicaps are different beasts: in the maidens you want the horse who keeps finding, and in the handicaps you want the one that can travel and sprint when the gaps appear. The roughies aren’t where you go full Hollywood; they’re the cheeky adds, not the whole script.

PUNTY'S BIG 3 + MULTI

These are the three bets the day leans on.

1 - My Tea (Race 1, No.1) — $3.30
Why Blinkers first time and enough exposed form to suggest she’s the one they all have to get past in a race where the map matters more than bravado.

2 - Galaxy Affair (Race 4, No.1) — $5.70
Why He’s drifting a touch, but the class is there and he maps to get the right sort of run in a race where plenty of them are trying to bluff their way through.

3 - Wing It (Race 2, No.2) — $4.70
Why Barrier 1, light claim, and a profile that says he can sit in the right spot and have every chance to gobble them up late.

Multi (all three to win): $10 × ~88.43 = ~$884.30 collect

Race 1 – Maiden Mayo

Race type: MAIDEN, 1300m
Map & tempo: Moderate pace; My Tea, Ray's Sauce, Take The Field and Minozza all map to get a fair say
Punty read: This is a proper "who wants it most" maiden. My Tea is the anchor - blinkers first time is a classic sharpen-up move and she’s been knocking at the door often enough to justify favouritism. Ray's Sauce was wide last time and the money’s come for him, so the market’s telling you he’s a real player if he can settle closer. Minozza is the one on the map with a bit of tactical zip, and if he controls his corner of the race he’s right in the finish. Cocoon Girl is the sneaky exotics filly - not in the locked top three, but she’s the sort who can clunk into a place if they overdo it up front.

Top 3 + Roughie ($16.50 pool)

1. My Tea (No.1) — $3.30 / $1.77
Bet $6.50 Win, return $21.45
Prob 17.4% | Place: 65.5% | Value: 0.64x
Why She’s the one with the strongest case in a messy maiden - blinkers first time and a map that keeps her in the hunt without needing a miracle.

2. Ray's Sauce (No.2) — $4.20 / $2.07
Bet $7.00 Place, return $14.49
Prob 15.3% | Place: 63.7% | Value: 0.89x
Why He was caught wide last start and the money says the yard expects a much cleaner run this time; if he gets a sit, he’ll be right there.

3. Minozza (No.4) — $4.40 / $2.13
Bet $3.00 Place, return $6.39
Prob 17.3% | Place: 65.5% | Value: 1.66x
Why On-pace type in a maiden where track position matters; if he kicks up and gets control, he can hold the lot of them at bay.

Roughie: Stoptheprospector (No.10) — $17.50 / $6.50
Bet Tracked
Prob 3.8% | Place: 35.0% | Value: 0.68x
Why Needs a few things to fall over, but if the speed gets muddled he’s the sort that can grab a cheque at a price.

Race 2 – C1 Clash

Race type: HANDICAP, 1400m
Map & tempo: Moderate pace; Wing It, Chantilly Girl, Hope To Admire and Puddin 'n' Pie should be close enough to make it interesting
Punty read: This is a proper map race. Wing It from barrier 1 with the claim is the one I want to be with - he gets the cheap run and has already shown he can finish it off. Chantilly Girl is the class horse but the price is skinny enough that you’re not forced into the saver nonsense. Hope To Admire keeps finding a way to run a race and the place side is the sensible angle. Holdout has been smashed in, but this is one of those "market knows something" jobs where the form still has to back up the whisper.

Top 3 + Roughie ($17.50 pool)

1. Wing It (No.2) — $4.70 / $2.23
Bet $13.50 Each Way ($6.75W + $6.75P), return $31.73 (wins) / $15.05 (places)
Prob 17.5% | Place: 65.5% | Value: 0.99x
Why Barrier 1, a light claim and a proven winning profile - he gets the run of the race if he jumps cleanly.

2. Chantilly Girl (No.4) — $3.90 / $1.97
Bet Tracked
Prob 17.5% | Place: 65.5% | Value: 0.85x
Why Honest enough, but the price has gone short enough that she’s more a watch-and-learn runner than a bankroll builder.

3. Hope To Admire (No.1) — $4.40 / $2.13
Bet $4.00 Place, return $8.52
Prob 16.9% | Place: 63.7% | Value: 0.89x
Why Consistent enough to keep turning up, and the 1400m shape plus the map should let him grind into the finish.

Roughie: Holdout (No.7) — $9.60 / $3.87
Bet Tracked
Prob 6.1% | Place: 63.7% | Value: 0.93x
Why The money’s there, but this is more "interesting market watch" than "load the truck and send it".

Race 3 – Tempo Trap

Race type: HANDICAP, 1300m
Map & tempo: Slow pace; Torqued Up, Tassort We Want, Magnasonic and Magic Shot are all better off if they’re not forced to chase a crawl
Punty read: This is the race where the slow tempo can make blokes look stupid. Torqued Up is the top pick because he’s got the right blend of form and tactical speed, but the weight is a little niggle. Tassort We Want gets the map and the stable intent, so he’s a live chance if they dawdle and sprint. Missile Girl is the one I’d be watching like a hawk - the market move is serious, the gear tweak is tidy, and if she lands the right run she can absolutely swat them. Magic Shot is the roughie with a sneaky profile for the exotics, but the stake is already spoken for.

Top 3 + Roughie ($18.00 pool)

1. Torqued Up (No.1) — $5.20 / $2.40
Bet $12.00 Each Way ($6.00W + $6.00P), return $31.20 (wins) / $14.40 (places)
Prob 16.3% | Place: 65.5% | Value: 1.07x
Why He maps to be right in the engine room and if the race turns into a tactical crawl, he’s the one who can pounce first.

2. Tassort We Want (No.2) — $5.00 / $2.33
Bet Tracked
Prob 16.3% | Place: 65.5% | Value: 1.03x
Why The right kind of runner for a slow-run 1300 - can sit where he wants and won’t be asking for a miracle.

3. Missile Girl (No.4) — $7.40 / $3.13
Bet $6.00 Place, return $18.78
Prob 9.4% | Place: 58.7% | Value: 1.06x
Why The money’s spoken loud and clear, and the race shape plus the gear tweak says she’s got a real shot to land right in the thick of it.

Roughie: Magic Shot (No.10) — $9.20 / $3.73
Bet Tracked
Prob 5.7% | Place: 43.3% | Value: 0.78x
Why If the race gets messy or the tempo falls apart, he’s the sort that can roll into the frame late.

Race 4 – The Coasty Cup

Race type: HANDICAP, 1200m
Map & tempo: Moderate pace; Galaxy Affair and Fameux get the pace boost, while Dynamic One is the one with the map knock
Punty read: This is a classic short-course chess match. Galaxy Affair is drifting, which makes a few punters itchy, but the horse still has the class and the map to be right there if he gets into a rhythm from midfield. Bartime has been heavily backed like he’s hiding the crown jewels, but from barrier 5 he’ll need to do some work to justify the squeeze. Dynamic One is the favourite, but the map is a bit of a banana peel - barrier 8 and an on-pace style in a race where position matters is not exactly a picnic. Royalzel and Catalpa are the sneaky exotics types if you want to get brave in the wider bets.

Top 3 + Roughie ($19.00 pool)

1. Galaxy Affair (No.1) — $5.70 / $2.57
Bet $14.00 Each Way ($7.00W + $7.00P), return $39.90 (wins) / $17.99 (places)
Prob 16.4% | Place: 65.5% | Value: 1.17x
Why Classy enough to absorb the drift and still be the one they have to beat if he gets the run of the race.

2. Bartime (No.6) — $3.50 / $1.83
Bet Tracked
Prob 17.5% | Place: 63.7% | Value: 0.78x
Why The money says someone’s keen, but at this price you’re paying for the excitement already.

3. Dynamic One (No.3) — $3.40 / $1.80
Bet $5.00 Place, return $9.00
Prob 17.6% | Place: 65.5% | Value: 0.77x
Why He’s the obvious horse, but barrier 8 and an on-pace profile means he’s got less room for error than the market would like.

Roughie: Border Control (No.2) — $18.00 / $6.67
Bet Tracked
Prob 3.9% | Place: 58.7% | Value: 1.24x
Why The place case is more interesting than the win angle; if the speed gets hot, he can clunk into the frame.

Race 5 – Open Bunch Brawl

Race type: HANDICAP, 1200m
Map & tempo: Genuine pace; Calathinite leads, with Hit The Jackpot, Star Power and She Is God all getting the right sort of tow
Punty read: This is the race that can make or break the day. They’re going to run this at a proper clip, and that puts the handy runners right in the firing line. Hit The Jackpot is the one I want in the book - he’s the right each-way play because the map suits and he can finish the job if the leaders go too hard. Star Power looks the sort of favourite the public falls in love with, but the price is already tidy enough and the setup isn’t screaming certainty. La Signora Dane is the grubby little place bet I like - honest, well set up, and the return is the kind that keeps the wallet from melting. Leading Taddy is the roughie if the race turns into a late scramble, but we’re not overcommitting.

Top 3 + Roughie ($19.50 pool)

1. Hit The Jackpot (No.1) — $7.40 / $3.13
Bet $12.00 Each Way ($6.00W + $6.00P), return $44.40 (wins) / $18.78 (places)
Prob 13.4% | Place: 58.7% | Value: 1.22x
Why Genuine pace plus a handy map - exactly the sort of setup where this bloke can stop the leaders from nicking the race.

2. Star Power (No.2) — $5.20 / $2.40
Bet Tracked
Prob 13.4% | Place: 58.7% | Value: 0.89x
Why Solid enough type, but the price has been trimmed enough that you’re not getting any free lunch.

3. La Signora Dane (No.5) — $6.40 / $2.80
Bet $7.50 Place, return $21.00
Prob 13.4% | Place: 66.7% | Value: 1.07x
Why She gets the kind of run that can turn into a cheque with very little drama if the leaders go too hard.

Roughie: Leading Taddy (No.3) — $9.00 / $3.67
Bet Tracked
Prob 10.9% | Place: 54.9% | Value: 1.23x
Why If the speed melts and they start dropping anchors late, he’s the sort who can sweep into the finish like a mate who turned up after the beers were already cold.

Race 6 – Stayers' Poker

Race type: HANDICAP, 1600m
Map & tempo: Moderate pace; Another Nephew, Tousled Crown, Whispering Pharaoh, Hundred Yards and Oscar Winner all get a look in
Punty read: This is the most honest middle-distance puzzle on the card. Another Nephew is the horse to beat - reliable, well placed, and the one the market has parked at the top for a reason. Tousled Crown is the danger with the better map than the price suggests, and Whispering Pharaoh is the sneaky place chance who can turn a decent run into a result. Hundred Yards is the roughie with real upside if the tempo is honest, and the market move on Reel Serenity is worth a sniff if you’re widening exotics, but in the locked play we’re staying disciplined.

Top 3 + Roughie ($18.00 pool)

1. Another Nephew (No.3) — $3.40 / $1.80
Bet $11.50 Each Way ($5.75W + $5.75P), return $19.55 (wins) / $10.35 (places)
Prob 16.5% | Place: 65.5% | Value: 0.80x
Why He’s the reliable type who should get the run to keep himself in the race all the way to the business end.

2. Tousled Crown (No.2) — $5.20 / $2.40
Bet Tracked
Prob 16.0% | Place: 65.5% | Value: 1.11x
Why The map is his friend and he’s the sort who can sit in the box seat without getting dragged into a brawl.

3. Whispering Pharaoh (No.6) — $5.40 / $2.47
Bet $6.50 Place, return $16.05
Prob 11.9% | Place: 65.5% | Value: 1.06x
Why The drift is a little eyebrow-raiser, but the profile says he can bounce back and run into a place with the right trip.

Roughie: Hundred Yards (No.7) — $9.60 / $3.87
Bet Tracked
Prob 5.0% | Place: 43.3% | Value: 0.69x
Why If this turns into a proper rolling mile and the leaders don’t overcook it, he’s the one that can come charging late and blow up the exotics.

SEQUENCE LANES — SINGLE OPTIMISED TICKET

Quaddie (R3-R6)

Smart: 2,1,4,10 / 1,3,6,2 / 1,5,2,3 / 3,2,6,7 (256 combos x $0.31 = $80.00) -- 31% flexi
Four open legs make this a proper quaddie test, but the anchors are sensible and the flexi keeps it playable without going full loose-cannon mode.

NUGGETS FROM THE TRACK

1 - Brett Pope's army
Brett Pope has 26 runners across the card, which is a fair old handful. The trick isn’t backing the logo - it’s finding the ones with the right map, because a few of his are genuine chances and a few are there to fill the fields.

2 - True rail, handy horses
With the rail true on a Good deck, the horses that can sit handy and get a crack without burning petrol are the ones to trust most. Backmarkers can still win, but they need tempo, luck, or a bit of black magic.

3 - The sneaky wildcards
Cocoon Girl in Race 1, Royalzel in Race 4 and Hundred Yards in Race 6 are the sort of runners that can turn the exotics into a nice little day saver if the race shape falls their way. Not banker material, but absolutely the type that can make you look like a genius in the pub.

THE DEGEN DEN

This is the sort of card where the bloke who thinks he’s found a certainty usually ends up buying the coffees. Keep it tight, back the map, and let the place money do the heavy lifting while the win bets do the bragging. Gamble Responsibly.
