Port Macquarie today is built for tactical riding. Soft 6 means the kick can be shorter, so if you're stuck three deep and still asking, you're doing extra work for the privilege. That's why the early races feel leader-driven, and why later we shift to horses that can keep themselves within striking distance.
Race 1 is a front-runner trap in the best way. Cheating Lilibet and Miss Trump both look like they've got the map advantage, with Miss Trump priced like she's already done her job. That said, soft track maidens can get messy around the 600m mark, so I'm not sweating the place angle on the top picks, they should be there.
Race 4 and 5 are where the meeting starts coughing up value. Canal is the class of the speed picture, and Parker's Paradise is the sort that can slide into the perfect run, hit the gap, and suddenly the race is over. Then Race 5 is all about horses that can handle tight turns and still run through the line, because if they're doing their best work late, you want it at the prices.
