Punty's Punts
Race type: Handicap, 1200m
Map & tempo: Slow pace, small field, so it's position plus straight-line dash
Punty read: This is a straight-up "who gets the best run" race. With it being a slow 1200m and only three real chances, you don't get to run around hoping for luck. Avgas at No.4 is the key, he's got the more reliable profile and the market price says everyone's already clocked it.
Top 3 + Roughie ($10.50 pool)
1. Avgas (No.4) — $2.13 / $1.38 🏆 3RD
Bet $10.50 Win — ✗ Lost, net -$10.50
Prob 43.4% | Place: 69.0% | Value: 1.04x
Why Expected to get the right spot early, and the field size means fewer excuses when the sprint hits.
2. Doubtwilly (No.3) — $2.71 / $1.57 🏆 2ND
Bet Tracked
Prob 28.9% | Place: 69.0% | Value: 0.93x
Why Field's too small to pay places, so there's no saver to have — win bet on top or nothing. Tracked.
Roughie: Jungle Rhythm (No.2) — $3.50 / $1.83 🏆 WINNER
Bet Tracked
Prob 25.0% | Place: 61.4% | Value: 0.98x
Why The bumped last run is forgiven, but without place leverage here, it's win-only and you cap the exposure.
Race type: Maiden Hcp, 1050m
Map & tempo: Slow sprint, so barrier and early placement decide everything
Punty read: 1050m maidens on Good 4 are about being in the right pocket early. In Three Dee at No.4 has the class edge and should get a run that allows a proper sprint late. Boom Chika Wow is the main threat, especially with the blinkers first time, and Balkan Melody is the value when the race stays slow enough for it to hit the line.
Top 3 + Roughie ($22.50 pool)
1. In Three Dee (No.4) — $2.46 / $1.13 🏆 5TH
Bet $17.50 Win — ✗ Lost, net -$17.50
Prob 37.1% | Place: 69.0% | Value: 1.06x
Why This horse maps to get into the right striking zone, and the price is giving you a genuine chance at a clean return.
2. Boom Chika Wow (No.2) — $3.05 / $1.25 🏆 3RD
Bet Tracked
Prob 28.3% | Place: 69.0% | Value: 1.10x
Why A real chance — but at $1.25 the place he's not a saver, he's a punt, and that's not a price I insure at. Watching, not betting.
3. Balkan Melody (No.10) — $4.20 / $1.45 🏆 4TH
Bet $5.00 Place — ✗ Lost, net -$5.00
Prob 15.5% | Place: 69.0% | Value: 1.21x
Why The drift suggests the market's having a moment, but the type can still get into the placings when the pace is slow.
Roughie: Anders Kiss (No.12) — $12.50 / $2.85 🏆 WINNER
Bet Tracked
Prob 6.1% | Place: 32.9% | Value: 0.85x
Why Outsider path is to get a clean trip from midfield, but it has to beat horses that are already set up better in this race.
Race type: Maiden Hcp, 1400m
Map & tempo: Moderate pace, so lane timing matters late
Punty read: This is 1400m maiden handicap stuff, aka the "wait for the room" race. All Banged Up at No.1 is the model pick, and you can see why, it's positioned to be involved when the gaps start to show. British Navy is right there, but Mr Democrat is your place leverage guy, the sort that can turn up late if the race doesn't boil too hard.
Top 3 + Roughie ($19.50 pool)
1. All Banged Up (No.1) — $2.68 / $1.20 🏆 3RD
Bet $7.50 Win — ✗ Lost, net -$7.50
Prob 30.4% | Place: 69.0% | Value: 0.98x
Why Gets the trip without needing a miracle, and it's built for the late pick-up.
2. British Navy (No.2) — $4.60 / $1.55 🏆 2ND
Bet $7.00 Place — ✓ Won, net +$4.90
Prob 18.6% | Place: 69.0% | Value: 1.15x
Why Strong value on the place side, and it should get a midfield run that keeps it in the race at the line.
3. Mr Democrat (No.7) — $6.20 / $1.82 🏆 WINNER
Bet $5.00 Place — ✓ Won, net +$4.50
Prob 16.4% | Place: 63.7% | Value: 1.26x
Why The best "late lumber in" profile for 1400m, and it's exactly the kind of horse that sneaks into the top three when they spread out.
Roughie: Bestov (No.4) — $24.00 / $3.80 🏆 4TH
Bet Tracked
Prob 2.8% | Place: 13.9% | Value: 0.69x
Why Needs everything to go its way, then it still has to outfinish the more reliable runners who are closer to the tempo.
Race type: Benchmark 65, 1050m
Map & tempo: Genuine pace, so on pace is king
Punty read: 1050m and genuine pace means the race is decided in the first half, then the finish is just survival of the quickest. Cryoseisms at No.4 is the danger because it's got the right sort of profile to keep coming, and Italian Dancer at No.2 is right there with it. Krackacan is the wildcard for exact value but needs the run to land perfectly.
Top 3 + Roughie ($15.00 pool)
1. Cryoseisms (No.4) — $3.52 / $1.65 🏆 3RD
Bet $15.00 Win — ✗ Lost, net -$15.00
Prob 28.6% | Place: 56.2% | Value: 1.22x
Why Pace suits it, and it looks built to handle the chop in a fast 1050m.
2. Italian Dancer (No.2) — $3.80 / $1.80 🏆 WINNER
Bet Tracked
Prob 26.4% | Place: 56.2% | Value: 1.22x
Why Only two places paid in a field this size, and skinny place divvies make savers a mug's game — this is a win-only race. Tracked, not staked.
3. Krackacan (No.3) — $3.95 / $1.72 🏆 5TH
Bet Tracked
Prob 18.4% | Place: 40.3% | Value: 0.99x
Why Short field, two places, thin divvies — the pool stays on the two bets that earn it. He's on the watch list.
Roughie: Idhana (No.6) — $9.35 / $3.30 🏆 2ND
Bet Tracked
Prob 8.1% | Place: 19.1% | Value: 0.91x
Why Needs a miracle in the sprint, because it's priced like it's coming from another universe.
Race type: Handicap, 1200m
Map & tempo: Slow 1200m, so midrace position and clean lane at the end
Punty read: This is a race where the straight-line matters, and you want the horse that's actually in the hunt before the final 200m. Belvedere Miss at No.5 is the clear value play, and Luxor Prince at No.6 is the one that looks like a favourite, but we're not paying for "looks". Spitzberg gives you a place chance without going fully roughie.
Top 3 + Roughie ($15.00 pool)
1. Belvedere Miss (No.5) — $4.15 / $1.95 🏆 2ND
Bet $15.00 Win — ✗ Lost, net -$15.00
Prob 29.9% | Place: 55.2% | Value: 1.54x
Why It's the right type for this tempo, and the market is treating it like more of a threat than it's priced to be.
2. Luxor Prince (No.6) — $2.84 / $1.62 🏆 3RD
Bet Tracked
Prob 16.2% | Place: 34.1% | Value: 0.63x
Why Only two places paid in a field this size, and skinny place divvies make savers a mug's game — this is a win-only race. Tracked, not staked.
3. Spitzberg (No.9) — $4.60 / $2.05 🏆 WINNER
Bet Tracked
Prob 15.8% | Place: 34.1% | Value: 0.96x
Why Short field, two places, thin divvies — the pool stays on the two bets that earn it. He's on the watch list.
Roughie: Bolla Bolla Babe (No.2) — $20.50 / $4.80 🏆 7TH
Bet Tracked
Prob 5.1% | Place: 12.2% | Value: 1.29x
Why It's got the potential to run on and surprise, but you're not rebuilding the whole race around that swing.
Race type: Handicap, 1200m
Map & tempo: Moderate pace, so travelling power and late acceleration win the argument
Punty read: This one's set up for I Can Help types, but the market price can play games. The model loves I Can Help at No.4, and Miss Funny Honey at No.3 is your place bet. Autumn Gale at No.7 has strong upside if it gets the gaps, and it's the kind of horse that makes you grin when it hits the line.
Top 3 + Roughie ($19.00 pool)
1. I Can Help (No.4) — $3.05 / $1.40 🏆 8TH
Bet $9.00 Win — ✗ Lost, net -$9.00
Prob 24.4% | Place: 57.0% | Value: 0.95x
Why It's got the speed to be in the right zone, and the race shape suits it to run straight through.
2. Miss Funny Honey (No.3) — $4.55 / $1.70 🏆 WINNER
Bet $10.00 Place — ✓ Won, net +$7.00
Prob 18.3% | Place: 47.0% | Value: 1.07x
Why Place value is solid, and it's the sort that gets rolling when others are half spent.
3. Autumn Gale (No.7) — $5.95 / $2.10 🏆 4TH
Bet Tracked
Prob 19.3% | Place: 56.2% | Value: 1.24x
Why The numbers say he's more show than certainty at this level — not enough collect chance to earn a stake. On the watch list.
Roughie: Bitter Spirit (No.2) — $9.35 / $2.70 🏆 5TH
Bet Tracked
Prob 8.3% | Place: 27.9% | Value: 0.99x
Why Needs a clear run and the right split, and with the pack on pace, it's a tougher road than the top three.
Race type: Open Handicap, 1200m
Map & tempo: Moderate pace, so position and tempo judgement decide the finish
Punty read: Heartoni at No.1 is the standout on the day's pace story, and the rail and map say it should get every chance. Parade Ground at No.7 can absolutely run into the mix, but the ticket is all about Heartoni as the anchor, then taking the place side on the more value-driven ones.
Top 3 + Roughie ($25.00 pool)
1. Heartoni (No.1) — $4.30 / $1.65 🏆 WINNER
Bet $15.50 Win — ✓ Won, net +$51.15
Prob 27.4% | Place: 65.7% | Value: 1.48x
Why Strong value with the right profile, and it should get a trip that lets it sprint without getting trapped.
2. Parade Ground (No.7) — $4.45 / $1.65 🏆 2ND
Bet $9.50 Place — ✓ Won, net +$14.25
Prob 16.2% | Place: 56.2% | Value: 0.90x
Why Place is the sweet spot, it has the form to hold position and then pick up again late.
3. Red Hot Lizzie (No.2) — $4.25 / $1.60 🏆 5TH
Bet Tracked
Prob 11.1% | Place: 35.4% | Value: 0.74x
Why The numbers say he's more show than certainty at this level — not enough collect chance to earn a stake. On the watch list.
Roughie: Heroic Miss (No.9) — $9.80 / $2.75 🏆 7TH
Bet Tracked
Prob 8.0% | Place: 26.8% | Value: 0.98x
Why It's a sneaky finisher, but you want a cleaner trip path than the one it likely faces from where it sits.
Race type: Benchmark 65, 1400m
Map & tempo: Slow pace, so midfield travel and late lane opens up
Punty read: 1400m slow tempo is where horses that can hold the line come into it. Ask Me Mate at No.3 is the win bet, because it has the profile to turn it into a tactical affair. King's Duty at No.7 is your place-value play, and Hou Long Gwai at No.8 is the each-way flavour on paper, but the odds shape has you on the place lane.
Top 3 + Roughie ($22.00 pool)
1. Ask Me Mate (No.3) — $2.37 / $1.25 🏆 3RD
Bet $12.00 Win — ✗ Lost, net -$12.00
Prob 27.7% | Place: 69.0% | Value: 0.83x
Why The race should suit its run style, and at 1400m it gets the chance to hit the line with space.
2. Hou Long Gwai (No.8) — $5.45 / $2.00 🏆 11TH
Bet $10.00 Place — ✗ Lost, net -$10.00
Prob 12.7% | Place: 58.8% | Value: 0.88x
Why Place is where it's strongest, and it should be able to capitalise late if the tempo stays slow.
Roughie: Got Gumption (No.4) — $9.90 / $2.85 🏆 WINNER
Bet Tracked
Prob 10.3% | Place: 55.2% | Value: 1.29x
Why It can run on, but the race shape likely asks for a cleaner trip than it'll get.
That's the ticket as I struck it — the legs below are exactly what ran, no rewriting history.
Smart: 4,3,2 / 4,2,10,12 / 1,2,7 / 4,6,2 (108 combos x $0.19 = $20.16) -- 19% flexi

Selections
Punty's Early Mail
Rightio Loose Units, Rockhampton on a Good 4 with the rail +5m and bugger all rain, so the track should race fair. This is one of those days where the speed gets away, then the rest of them go into cruise control, and a couple of nice chances sneak through like they've got an Uber waiting out the front.
You can feel the tempo coming too. Race 1 looks like a slow 1200m where being "kinda there" is worth gold, Race 4 and 5 are sharp sprints where the on pace runners get first crack, and by the time we hit the late stuff it's all about who can travel and who turns up at the finish like they actually wanted to be there. The rail is a touch of a tax, but with it +5m, you still get lanes, you just gotta pick them like you're choosing seats at a sold-out footy final.
Alright degens, here's the spine for the day, then we walk it race-by-race. Place will be doing a bit of heavy lifting, and the quaddies and Big 6 lanes are built for entertainment, not prayer.
MEET SNAPSHOT
Track: Good 4, 1050m-1400m card
Rail: +5m Entire
Official going: Good 4 (expected to play On pace to midfield runners, with clean trips)
Weather: Partly cloudy, 20°C, gusty, no rain, watch for the wind tipping tempo into chaos
Early lane guess: Inside for the leaders, then middle to outside for the finishers
Tempo profile: Slow to moderate early, so you want horses that can hold position early and then sprint late, not ones that need a miracle.
Jockeys to follow:
Ryan Wiggins: Gets horses into workable spots, and when he's on a runner with map intent, they tend to do the job.
Ms Steph Tierney(a2/50.5kg): She keeps ending up on the right ones, especially when the stable is planning gear and intent.
Raul Silvera Olivera: One of those "quietly everywhere" riders, and on this rail +5, travelling matters.
Stables to respect:
L F Birchley (1 runners): Jungle Rhythm and that bumped excuse has teeth in a tight race.
S W Kendrick (3 runners): Multiple runners across the day, and when they hit with first gear changes, you gotta take them seriously.
Kevin Miller (2 runners): He brings runners that can sit midfield and then find something, even when the market goes a bit weird.
Punty's take:
Race day at Rocko feels like a "who's in the right gear, on the right run line" kind of meet. With the rail +5m and no rain, the best horses should get every chance, but the wind can make pace collapse and reload, so don't be shocked if one that looks too far back sneaks into the placings.
My big focus early is the way the meeting sets up for the on pace brigade. Race 1 is a small field 1200m handicap, and it's basically speed versus excuses: Avgas looks like the one who gets the right run and goes through, while Jungle Rhythm and Doubtwilly both come with legitimate "that wasn't the real run" stories. If you're looking for where the day's first profit is hiding, it's in that simple top end.
Then we roll into Race 2, where the maiden sprint 1050m is the classic tight-spot puzzle. In Three Dee and Boom Chika Wow are your two anchors, and Balkan Melody is the one that gives you value without being an absolute flog in a roughie coat. After that, Race 3 is a maiden 1400m where the better-placed contenders get to pick their lanes late, and Mr Democrat is the type that can park and pounce.
What it means for you:
Be aggressive in the races where the model's strongest lanes are coming from, and it's mostly about being on the right horses with the right position. My rule tonight is simple: if the horse is set up to get a proper trip, back it with confidence. If it's a wide-drifty sort, you're using place logic or you're skipping it.
In practical terms, Race 1 and Race 2 are your "don't overthink it" battles. Race 4 and Race 6 are where the on pace runners can pinch it if they're travelling, while Race 7 and Race 8 are where you protect the bigger price outcomes with place bets, because Rocko can easily turn into a late dash where one jockey gets the perfect run corridor.
Do it like a legend, not like a mug punter, and chase the spine multi idea for the day's main jolt.
