Punty's Early Mail
For all of Punty's tips for Rosehill, head to https://punty.ai/tips/rosehill-2026-06-27
Rightio Loose Units, Rosehill on a Soft 6 with the rail out 6m is the sort of card where the map matters more than the marketing hype. The breeze has a bit of a face to it straight up the chute, so horses rolling forward and stalking the speed should get first crack while the swoopers need the race to fall apart like a bad sequel.
MEET SNAPSHOT
Track: Rosehill, 1100m to 2400m card
Rail: +6m Entire
Official going: Soft 6 (expected to play on-pace friendly, with closers needing luck)
Weather: Showers, 10°C, humid as hell, with a light westy and a bit of a sting in the straight
Early lane guess: Inside to middle is the sane spot; handy runners with cover should get their chance
Tempo profile: Plenty of genuine tempos, but not a full-blown demolition derby every race. The sprints should sting, the mid-race stuff looks tactical, and the staying race should give the grinders a shot.
Jockeys to follow:
Kerrin McEvoy — keeps landing on the right horses in the right races and knows how to nurse a soft-track tempo.
Adam Hyeronimus — gets a stack of the live rides and is deadly when the map and class line up.
Regan Bayliss — plenty of useful mounts across the card; if one of his gets a soft run, keep your eyes peeled.
Stables to respect:
C J Waller — the yard has a heap of live chances and keeps turning up with the right sort of horse for these Rosehill tests.
Bjorn Baker — always dangerous when the market gets behind one, and he’s got a few that map nicely.
Annabel & Rob Archibald — their team has a couple of honest, on-speed types that suit this exact sort of card.
Punty's take:
This is not a day for getting all romantic with the backmarkers and dreaming of a swooping miracle like you're in the final scene of Top Gun. Rosehill on a Soft 6 with the rail out usually rewards horses that travel and can tack onto the right wheel. The leaders can pinch it if they get away with murder, but the handy ones with a bit of intent are the sweet spot.
The card’s got a proper spread of shapes too — a few races look like bar fights, a few look like they’ve got a banker shape, and a few are pure chaos where the bookies would happily write you any ticket you want. The market’s been active on a pile of runners, but not every plunge is gospel. Some are genuine smoke signals, some are just punters having a dig before the first coffee.
What it means for you:
Keep your balls in the car and don’t try to force every race. The best way to attack this meeting is to lean into the races where the map and the market are both singing the same song, then keep the chaos races to the pre-built lanes and nothing more. That means you can be firmer in races like Race 6, Race 8 and Race 9, where the class and shape line up nicely, while treating the messy sprints and Highway as “get in, get out” territory.
You’re better off taking place angles and each-way value than trying to bludgeon every favourite into a win-only bet. The soft track and the rail position should let handy horses camp on speed and kick, but the headwind in the straight means the late swoopers won’t always sustain it. If a horse is short and the map looks ugly, let the bookies wear that pain. If a horse is drifting but still has the right run, that’s where the sneaky value lives.
PUNTY'S BIG 3 + MULTI
These are the three bets the day leans on.
1 - King Pedro (Race 6, No.9) — $2.25
Why He’s the class act in the staying feature and the market has already started leaning his way. Even with the tempo working against the back-end types, he’s the one who can absorb it and still put them away when the pinch comes.
2 - Golden Path (Race 8, No.1) — $5.75
Why Back to a softer setup after finding it too sharp previously, and the soft track with a handy run gives him every chance to lob and finish like a horse that’s ready to fire.
3 - Exit Fee (Race 9, No.15) — $7.00
Why Maps to get the right kind of run in a race where a few want to over-race and a few are better suited late. Honest type, fit enough, and the setup looks made for him to stalk and pounce.
Multi (all three to win): $10 x ~90.56 = ~$905.63 collect
Race 1 – The opener's a headache
Race type: Midway (Bm72), 1300m
Map & tempo: Genuine pace with Mafia leading, Cold Brew and Mother Goose advantaged on the map, and a few others needing luck from wider gates.
Punty read: This is a proper Rosehill ambush race. Cold Brew has the right setup after a strong return, Mafia has been tougher than a $2 steak and can give a sight, and Just In Time is the sneaky one resuming off a break with the fresh legs and a map that could pan out better than it looks. If the speed gets cooking early, the race can turn into a late scramble.
Top 3 + Roughie ($13.00 pool)
1. Cold Brew (No.2) — $5.60 / $2.15
Bet $13.00 Each Way ($6.50W + $6.50P), return $36.40 (wins) / $13.97 (places)
Prob 14.8% | Place: 65.5% | Value: 1.12x
Why He’s got the right horse profile for this sort of soft-track Midway and his first-up run said there’s plenty left in the tank. If he lands somewhere near the speed and gets clear air, he’ll be right in the fight.
2. Mafia (No.1) — $8.20 / $2.75
Bet Tracked
Prob 12.0% | Place: 43.3% | Value: 1.34x
Why Big drift, but don’t throw the baby out with the bathwater — he’s been racing honestly and has the map to be in the thick of it again if he bounces out and rolls.
3. Just In Time (No.3) — $9.40 / $3.30
Bet Tracked
Prob 12.0% | Place: 43.3% | Value: 1.53x
Why Fresh horse with a history of going well first-up, and if the tempo gets hot enough he can be finishing over the top of a few tired legs.
Roughie: Thames (No.6) — $10.30 / $3.80
Bet Tracked
Prob 9.8% | Place: 43.3% | Value: 1.37x
Why The gear tinkering says the stable is having a crack, but this bloke needs the race to unfold perfectly to put his best foot forward.
Race 2 – Highway bar fight
Race type: TAB Highway Hcp (C3), 1500m
Map & tempo: Moderate pace with Navy Buoy the map horse, while a stack of runners are buried wide or coming from the rear.
Punty read: This is one of those Highway jobs where half the field looks like they’ve got claims and the other half look like they were entered by accident. Navy Buoy gets the first nod because the map is kind enough and the stable/jockey combo has history with him. Giapponese is the late closer with the cleanest pathway to a cheque, while Portofino has the right sort of on-speed profile but the last bit at 1500m is the query. Olington Lane is the roughie lurking with a wet sail if the race melts down.
Top 3 + Roughie ($0.00 pool)
1. Navy Buoy (No.2) — $12.00 / $3.80
Bet $15.00 Each Way ($7.50W + $7.50P), return $90.00 (wins) / $28.50 (places)
Prob 9.6% | Place: 43.3% | Value: 1.59x
Why He’s got the right kind of speed to hold a position and the soft track doesn’t look like a problem. If he crosses cleanly, he can make them chase.
2. Giapponese (No.5) — $10.00 / $3.30
Bet Tracked
Prob 9.6% | Place: 58.7% | Value: 1.33x
Why The backmarker style is annoying, but the recent run said he’s bouncing. If the pace is honest, he’s the one flying late.
3. Portofino (No.6) — $7.00 / $2.50
Bet Tracked
Prob 9.6% | Place: 39.9% | Value: 0.93x
Why The new gear could sharpen him up and he maps like a horse who can sit in the first half and have his chance.
Roughie: Olington Lane (No.21) — $12.00 / $3.80
Bet Tracked
Prob 9.6% | Place: 43.3% | Value: 1.59x
Why Lightly raced and still learning the job, but he’s got the price and the map edge to land a blow if the race gets messy.
Race 3 – Speed merchants and swoopers
Race type: Kia Ora Bloodlines To Headlines (Bm72), 1100m
Map & tempo: Genuine pace with Performance leading; Benevac, Lull and Sneaky Pee Cee are the ones getting the softer map run.
Punty read: This is a proper 1100m burn-up. The leaders should make a tempo, but Rosehill on a Soft 6 can still punish the over-cooks if they go at it like a Travis Scott set. Benevac has the class and the right tactical run, Jarrito is the honest speed type who can keep giving, and Lady Invictus is the one who can stalk the speed and be there when the whips are cracking. Gilette is the roughie that could lob late if the race turns into a lung-buster.
Top 3 + Roughie ($16.00 pool)
1. Benevac (No.3) — $4.60 / $1.95
Bet $9.50 Each Way ($4.75W + $4.75P), return $21.85 (wins) / $9.26 (places)
Prob 13.8% | Place: 35.0% | Value: 0.85x
Why He’s been knocking on the door and this is the sort of setup where a good horse with a handy run gets every chance to put the race to bed.
2. Jarrito (No.7) — $6.20 / $2.25
Bet Tracked
Prob 13.8% | Place: 43.3% | Value: 1.15x
Why He’ll likely roll forward and stick on. If the leaders are working too hard early, he’s the one that can still be there at the end.
3. Lady Invictus (No.11) — $6.95 / $2.40
Bet $6.50 Place, return $15.60
Prob 13.8% | Place: 59.7% | Value: 1.29x
Why Honest filly, maps to sit in the right place, and that place profile says she’s the sort you want in the exotics even if she’s not the punter’s favourite dish.
Roughie: Gilette (No.10) — $21.75 / $5.50
Bet Tracked
Prob 3.6% | Place: 56.0% | Value: 1.07x
Why New gear can sharpen him up, and if the speed collapses after a full-pelt 1100, he’s the type to be booming late.
Race 4 – Mid-race muddle
Race type: Irresistible Pools And Spas (Bm72), 1400m
Map & tempo: Moderate pace with Damien and Virgil's Gift advantaged on the map, while Big Papa and Tarzing are likely to be right up there early.
Punty read: Big Papa and Tarzing are the obvious ones to go forward and try to control the rhythm, but this has the look of a race where the first horse to get a breather could nick a break. The drifts on Damien and Cherish Me are loud enough to make you raise an eyebrow, but the right answer is usually to respect the live money and the stable intent. Royal Flare is the underappreciated one who could get every chance if the race opens up.
Top 3 + Roughie ($18.00 pool)
1. Big Papa (No.5) — $3.48 / $1.65
Bet $11.50 Each Way ($5.75W + $5.75P), return $20.01 (wins) / $9.49 (places)
Prob 17.8% | Place: 63.7% | Value: 0.79x
Why He maps to be in the firing line and has been running honest enough to trust, even if the price says the public has already found him.
2. Tarzing (No.6) — $3.85 / $1.72
Bet Tracked
Prob 15.7% | Place: 54.9% | Value: 0.77x
Why The drift-to-firm move is the sort of thing that makes ears prick up. He’s got the speed to be on the bunny or just off it, which is gold at Rosehill when the track’s riding kind.
3. Royal Flare (No.4) — $15.25 / $4.80
Bet $6.50 Place, return $31.20
Prob 5.3% | Place: 63.7% | Value: 1.04x
Why Gets the rise in trip and should land a sweet midfield run. If the speed gets a touch sticky, he’s the one who can grind into the frame.
Roughie: Cherish Me (No.3) — $15.00 / $4.00
Bet Tracked
Prob 5.4% | Place: 58.7% | Value: 1.02x
Why The market has had a proper crack at her at some point, and if she gets the right trail she can stick on better than the price suggests.
Race 5 – The drag race
Race type: Find Your Eternal Warrior @ The Chase (Bm78), 1400m
Map & tempo: Moderate pace with Miss Hades, Laurel Hill and Virgil's Gift advantaged on the map, while Sequista is the one fighting the pattern.
Punty read: Surf's Up is the one they’ve hammered in the market, but the drift says the public isn’t exactly drunk on him. Bella Corazon and Sequista are the ones with the sweetest blend of form and map for this sort of 1400m stitch-up. Flying Embers is the genuine late threat if the race gets honest, and Aye Aye Captain is the roughie who maps well enough to cause a stink if the leaders don’t get it right.
Top 3 + Roughie ($18.00 pool)
1. Surf's Up (No.1) — $3.18 / $1.57
Bet $11.50 Each Way ($5.75W + $5.75P), return $18.29 (wins) / $9.03 (places)
Prob 13.6% | Place: 54.9% | Value: 0.57x
Why The drift is a concern, no sugar-coating it, but the horse has a decent enough engine and the inside draw gives him a shot to save ground and finish off.
2. Bella Corazon (No.9) — $6.75 / $2.65
Bet Tracked
Prob 13.6% | Place: 43.3% | Value: 1.21x
Why She’s been firmed like a horse somebody wants to be on, and the soft track plus a midfield run gives her a genuine winning path.
3. Sequista (No.10) — $7.75 / $2.65
Bet $6.50 Place, return $17.22
Prob 11.1% | Place: 58.7% | Value: 1.13x
Why The map isn’t ideal, but she’s one of the more reliable finishers in the race and should be steaming home when others are gasping.
Roughie: Aye Aye Captain (No.6) — $10.30 / $3.70
Bet Tracked
Prob 10.5% | Place: 58.7% | Value: 1.43x
Why Honest horse, good recent form, and if he lands the right midfield spot he can punch into the placings without anyone blinking.
Race 6 – The stayers' test
Race type: Ranvet Stayers Cup (Bm90), 2400m
Map & tempo: Genuine pace with Black Run leading, while Go Daddy and Belle Detelle are the ones the pattern may punish if they’re too far back.
Punty read: This is a proper staying test, and the class horse King Pedro is the one the day leans on. Black Run should give a sight from the front after drawing the fence and coming back fitter, while Casual Connection is the place angle that screams “solid and sane”. Sounds Unusual is the roughie with enough staying honesty to run into the frame if the pace is hot and the leaders get leg-weary.
Top 3 + Roughie ($16.50 pool)
1. King Pedro (No.9) — $2.25 / $1.25
Bet $7.50 Win, return $16.88
Prob 15.8% | Place: 43.3% | Value: 0.44x
Why The market has shoved him in for a reason. He’s the one with the class edge and the right kind of staying profile to make the others earn every metre.
2. Black Run (No.2) — $8.20 / $2.35
Bet Tracked
Prob 14.0% | Place: 54.9% | Value: 1.43x
Why Back in form and fitter now, he can roll along from the inside and make a proper staying race of it.
3. Casual Connection (No.8) — $17.50 / $4.20
Bet $9.00 Place, return $37.80
Prob 4.8% | Place: 43.3% | Value: 1.04x
Why He’s the sort who can keep grinding while others are pulling the pin. If the tempo is genuine, he’ll be in the money late.
Roughie: Sounds Unusual (No.5) — $12.75 / $3.60
Bet Tracked
Prob 11.1% | Place: 60.0% | Value: 1.76x
Why This is the sneaky one for the exotics because he’ll relish a proper test and has the soft-track staying grunt to hang on.
Race 7 – The grinder
Race type: Rosehill Bowling Club (Bm78), 1800m
Map & tempo: Moderate pace with Stylebender advantaged, while Boys Night Out and Kapakiri look to be the ones fighting the shape.
Punty read: Congressman is the sort of horse punters love to overthink, and then he just keeps turning up. Perfect Play has the right sort of map to tuck in and do no more than needed early, while Hovland is the horse you keep safe because he’s genuine even if the prices are a touch skinny for the job. Inquiring Minds is the roughie with real late interest, but the day says not to overdo it and chase the sexy price if the race doesn’t unfold perfectly.
Top 3 + Roughie ($10.50 pool)
1. Congressman (No.15) — $5.40 / $2.15
Bet $10.50 Each Way ($5.25W + $5.25P), return $28.35 (wins) / $11.29 (places)
Prob 14.0% | Place: 43.3% | Value: 0.99x
Why Honest, hard-fit, and the sort of horse that can keep rolling even when the tempo’s not exactly doing him favours.
2. Perfect Play (No.8) — $6.75 / $2.40
Bet Tracked
Prob 11.3% | Place: 33.9% | Value: 1.01x
Why He’s got the right set-up to stalk the speed and peel out late. If the track is favouring the handy runners, he’ll be right in the mix.
3. Hovland (No.9) — $5.75 / $2.25
Bet Tracked
Prob 11.3% | Place: 39.9% | Value: 0.86x
Why Solid enough horse, but the price has him doing a bit too much of the heavy lifting for the amount of confidence on offer.
Roughie: Inquiring Minds (No.3) — $11.10 / $3.80
Bet Tracked
Prob 9.1% | Place: 43.3% | Value: 1.33x
Why If the tempo is honest and he gets the right tow into it, he’s the one that can whack the line like he’s got something to prove.
Race 8 – The Cup of truth
Race type: TAB W J McKell Cup, 2000m
Map & tempo: Moderate pace with Glory Daze advantaged, while Sky Lab is the one likely to be snookered at the back.
Punty read: Golden Path gets the nod because the soft setup and softer track should let him travel and finish properly. Know Thyself is the genuine danger if he sees out the 2000m, and God’s Window is the class horse but is too short for the way we’re playing the race. Maison Louis is the roughie with the blinkers on, and if the race becomes a bit of a slog, he’s the one that can run on and ruin the party.
Top 3 + Roughie ($7.50 pool)
1. Golden Path (No.1) — $5.75 / $1.95
Bet $7.50 Each Way ($3.75W + $3.75P), return $21.56 (wins) / $7.31 (places)
Prob 17.2% | Place: 43.3% | Value: 1.23x
Why Found the track too firm last time and now gets the setup he wants. If he gets a clean run, he’s right there at the business end.
2. Know Thyself (No.2) — $5.55 / $1.80
Bet Tracked
Prob 17.2% | Place: 66.7% | Value: 1.19x
Why Honest mare, maps well enough, and the stable has clearly got her ticking along for this trip.
3. God's Window (No.4) — $2.79 / $1.25
Bet Tracked
Prob 16.6% | Place: 43.3% | Value: 0.57x
Why She’s the talent, no doubt, but at that price she’s got no room for error and the map isn’t a picnic.
Roughie: Maison Louis (No.3) — $11.50 / $2.90
Bet Tracked
Prob 12.1% | Place: 65.5% | Value: 1.73x
Why Blinkers on and a soft enough map mean he can surprise a few if the more fancied pair get stuck in a wrestling match.
Race 9 – Back half brawl
Race type: Schweppes (Bm78), 1200m
Map & tempo: Moderate pace with Memoria advantaged, and the backmarkers Stagnum and First Landing relying on the race getting strong enough.
Punty read: This one has a lovely shape for the right sort of swooper if the front end gets busy. Exit Fee is the one I want because he should get the right run in transit and has enough fitness to finish the job. Stagnum has been backed like a horse they’re trying to get onside, Stardeel loves the wet, and Snack Bar is the roughie with the gear changes and a sneaky late pattern. Sanctified is the favourite, but I’m not keen on paying top dollar when the value lives elsewhere.
Top 3 + Roughie ($16.00 pool)
1. Exit Fee (No.15) — $7.00 / $2.50
Bet $10.00 Each Way ($5.00W + $5.00P), return $35.00 (wins) / $12.50 (places)
Prob 14.1% | Place: 43.3% | Value: 1.36x
Why Right kind of horse for this shape of race - fit, honest, and likely to get the sit he needs before peeling out when it matters.
2. Stagnum (No.16) — $8.00 / $2.75
Bet Tracked
Prob 14.1% | Place: 54.9% | Value: 1.56x
Why He’s the one the market has sniffed too, and if the leaders overdo it he’ll be storming home.
3. Stardeel (No.6) — $9.00 / $3.00
Bet $6.00 Place, return $18.00
Prob 11.5% | Place: 63.7% | Value: 1.43x
Why Loves the wet, has the form, and should get a crack at them late from the right kind of stalking position.
Roughie: Snack Bar (No.10) — $12.00 / $3.70
Bet Tracked
Prob 8.9% | Place: 46.3% | Value: 1.49x
Why Blinkers and the tongue tie can wake him up enough to ping a late placing if the race turns into a scramble.
Race 10 – The late card pinch
Race type: Petaluma (Bm88), 1500m
Map & tempo: Genuine pace with No Drama leading; Mawjood, No Drama and The Creator are the ones the shape wants to help.
Punty read: Spione is the one that has come up like a horse the stable means business with. The blinkers first time and the firming are worth paying attention to. Hollywood Hero is the sort of honest gelding that can sit in the first half and finish off properly, while Mawjood is the market says “keep safe” horse even if he’s not screaming value. The roughie Elliptical has the sort of horror price that makes you want to check if the decimal point is broken, but he’s more a watch-list job than a wallet job.
Top 3 + Roughie ($0.00 pool)
1. Spione (No.12) — $8.45 / $2.90
Bet $15.00 Each Way ($7.50W + $7.50P), return $63.37 (wins) / $21.75 (places)
Prob 14.2% | Place: 54.9% | Value: 1.72x
Why First-up with blinkers on and the market has already started sniffing around. If he jumps cleanly and lands a spot, he’s got the gears to make a mess of them.
2. Hollywood Hero (No.2) — $7.45 / $2.65
Bet Tracked
Prob 11.5% | Place: 43.3% | Value: 1.23x
Why Honest type who can handle the track and should get the right sort of run from a decent gate.
3. Mawjood (No.9) — $5.95 / $2.15
Bet Tracked
Prob 11.5% | Place: 39.9% | Value: 0.98x
Why Not flashy, but he’s fit enough and if the pace gets hotter than expected he can be there to pick up the pieces.
Roughie: Elliptical (No.1) — $25.50 / $6.00
Bet Tracked
Prob 3.6% | Place: 34.5% | Value: 1.34x
Why Massive price and a bit of a lottery ticket, but if the race goes completely pear-shaped he’s the one that can clatter into the frame.
SEQUENCE LANES — SINGLE OPTIMISED TICKET
EARLY QUADDIE (R3-R6)
Smart: 7,11,3,1 / 5,6,4,3 / 1,9,10,6 / 9,2,5,14 (256 combos x $0.31 = $80.00) -- 31% flexi
Four open legs, so this is a proper sicko ticket rather than a cuddle blanket. It’s wide enough to survive the chaos, but you’re still relying on the right horses to handle the soft track and the tempo.
QUADDIE (R7-R10)
Smart: 15,9,8,3 / 1,2,4,3 / 15,16,6,10 / 12,2,9,7 (256 combos x $0.31 = $80.00) -- 31% flexi
This is a full-send lane with four open races and no room for dreaming. Good fun, but if you’re looking for a clean investment story, this one’s more popcorn than pension.
BIG 6 (R5-R10)
Smart: 1 / 9 / 15 / 1 / 15 / 12 (1 combos x $2.00 = $2.00) -- 200% flexi
Single-shot theatre, nothing more. If it lands, you’re a hero; if it doesn’t, you’ve just donated to the racing gods and they probably needed it.
NUGGETS FROM THE TRACK
1 - Soft 6 plus rail +6m is a handy-runner’s day
The straight has a bit of a face on it, so horses with tactical speed and a bit of cover are in the sweet spot. Leaders can still win, but only if they’re not going too hard and burning themselves to the ground.
2 - The market has been loud on a few, but not all of it is gospel
Cold Brew, Stagnum, Seven's and Spione have been the money horses, and that’s worth respecting. But big drifts like Mafia, Surf's Up, Black Run and No Drama are the warning lights - if you’re backing them, make sure the racing reason is stronger than the price move.
3 - The rails-journey types are the ones to keep close
C J Waller, Bjorn Baker and Annabel & Rob Archibald have the sort of runners that can keep you honest all afternoon. It’s a bit like a well-cast heist movie - if the key players get the script right, the punter left holding the wrong ticket is the one doing the sweating.
THE LOOSE UNIT LOUNGE
This is one of those Rosehill cards where the smart money goes into the races with shape, not the ones with vibes. Keep it tidy, trust the map, and don’t go full goblin just because a roughie is bouncing in the betting. If the day goes pear-shaped, at least go down swinging with the right reasons behind you. Gamble Responsibly.
