Punty's Early Mail
For all of Punty's tips for Rosehill, head to https://punty.ai/tips/rosehill-2026-08-29
Rightio Loose Units, Rosehill on a Soft 5 with the rail out at 3m is the kind of day where the leaders can keep breathing, but the wide lads are still gonna make you sweat like it's the last episode of a Netflix thriller.
Ten races, filthy number of runners, and the track's sitting there like, "c'mon then… test me." Soft 5 at Rosehill usually means you want horses with actual class, actual sectionals, and enough gas to keep pulling through the mud and the momentum. Big speed matters early, because once the tempo gets rolling, the finish turns into a conveyor belt.
And yeah, I've got a spine today. Three horses look like they're built for this exact sort of meeting, and if the race shapes play fair, we can bully the day. If not, well… we'll at least do it with style, tickets in hand, and a mild sense of financial regret.
MEET SNAPSHOT
Track: Rosehill, Metro, 1800-1200mm card
Rail: 3m Entire
Official going: Soft 5 (expected to play Leaders and On-pace, with some sticky closers in the mix)
Weather: Partly cloudy, 11°C, humidity 91%, light crosswind WNW (watch for wide-runner resistance and a few runners getting held up in the heavier lanes)
Early lane guess: Middle to On-pace early, wideners need to go early or they'll be trapped in the mud
Tempo profile: Tempo is generally genuine, so expect the front to set up the race, then the handbrake is nowhere near the finish
Jockeys to follow:
Tommy Berry: the king of timing races on wet-ish tracks, and he'll ride like he's got a plan
Zac Lloyd: shows up when the race shape matters, and he doesn't panic when it gets awkward
Kerrin McEvoy: gets value rides, loves a grind, and rarely wastes a sprint
Stables to respect:
John Thompson (3 runners): shows up across multiple classes, and his horses handle these conditions
C J Waller (3 runners): serious metro prep machine, and his speed types are always live
Bjorn Baker (2 runners): tends to get them ready when the pace is legit, and the late fitness holds up
Punty's take:
Soft 5 at Rosehill is a funny beast. The rail out at 3m helps, so the obvious "move off the fence and save ground" strategy still works, but it's not like a dry track where you can lob anywhere and still cruise. The crosswind is light, but it'll still tug at your rhythm if you're wide, and in a big field that can cost a length just by being a bit too bloody brave too soon.
Race 3 to 6 is where I'm gonna be nosy. That stretch is where the pace maps are doing the most heavy lifting, and where you either ride to the shape or you end up watching them sail over the top while you're chasing your own tail. I like the way the early tempo holds together, because it means the on-pacers and leaders don't get swallowed early, and the finish stays competitive.
The market's telling little stories too. There are a couple of firmers that scream "we like this", and a few drifters that scream "handle with care." For example, Avista shortening in Race 4 is worth respecting, and in Race 7, the Savagram-Plagiarism style of setup looks like the market knows where the danger is meant to come from.
What it means for you:
You want to be aggressive where the racing makes sense. That's why the Big 3 is the spine, because all three of them have a clean lane into the finish, either through being on-speed, or having enough class to overcome a messy journey.
For your bet plan: lean into the win conviction where it's pre-set, but don't be scared to play the place side too. On Soft 5, a horse can travel well and still get bogged for a stride or two, so places become your safety rail. If there's one thing I'm backing today, it's that the races with genuine tempo will reward horses that are positioned to grab the moment, not the ones stuck in traffic.
And if you're building exotics, keep it tight. The biggest returns usually come when you catch one chaos piece at the right moment, not when you spread yourself thin over every runner with a pulse.
PUNTY'S BIG 3 + MULTI
These are the three bets the day leans on.
1 - Aethelwulf (Race 3, No.3) — $1.48
Why Maps to a genuine pace race, and the finish is where she earns it.
2 - Blue Door (Race 8, No.6) — $2.29
Why On-speed and hard to run down, especially when the tempo keeps moving.
3 - Amazing Eagle (Race 10, No.12) — $1.93
Why The sort of profile that wins when others are surviving.
Multi (all three to win): $10 × ~7.00 = ~$70.00 collect
Race 1 – Mixed Medium Mayhem
Race type: Midway (Bm72), 1800m
Map & tempo: Genuine pace, Doradus sets the tone, then it gets crowded late
Punty read:
Rosehill 1800 on Soft 5, rail out, and the tempo's meant to be genuine. That usually means Doradus and Proxima Dea are going to do the heavy lifting early, with the midfield searching for positions like they're playing hide and seek. The big danger? Horses that were hampered last start that get clear run here. Wet tracks punish traffic, but when you get a clean lane, they can absolutely punch through.
Proxima Dea looks like she's built for this exact tempo profile, and on Soft 5 I love runners who can stick close enough to avoid the chaos. Doradus is the type to be in the fight, but you've gotta respect that slow starts and wide trips can still shuffle the deck. The Iron Star's gear change matters too, because blinkers and visors first time can tighten up concentration when the ground goes soft and the race gets scrappy.
As for Channelling, she's your rougher-style "if it falls apart" player. If the inside collapses the way Soft tracks sometimes do, she can sneak into the frame and make your day spicy.
Top 3 + Roughie ($10.00 pool)
1. Proxima Dea (No.10) — $3.58 / $1.62
Bet $10.00 Win, return $35.75
Prob 25.9% | Place: 62.3% | Value: 1.19x
Why Sticks on the pace and handles Soft 5 shapes, the sort of runner that doesn't waste a run. Market's backing her with intent too.
2. Doradus (No.3) — $3.70 / $1.65
Bet $5.00 Place, return $8.25
Prob 20.9% | Place: 59.8% | Value: 1.00x
Why Doradus should get the race to her advantage. Last run excuses cover a slow start, and with genuine pace on, she can be right there turning it.
3. The Iron Star (No.8) — $6.75 / $2.40
Bet Tracked
Prob 10.8% | Place: 36.6% | Value: 0.94x
Why Gear change gives her a chance to sharpen, but the value isn't there for a place line in this exact setup.
Roughie: Channelling (No.13) — $12.50 / $3.80
Bet Tracked
Prob 5.8% | Place: 19.2% | Value: 0.94x
Why If she's going to hit, she needs the race to break the right way, and she's more a "hold onto your hat" story than a straight place angle.
Race 2 – Buy Your Kosciuszko Tickets
Race type: Buy Your Kosciuszko Tickets At TAB Highway Hcp (C2), 1400m
Map & tempo: Moderate pace, Condone is advantaged early, Xtreme looks like she wants to race handy
Punty read:
This is the classic open 1400 where everyone's got a reason, and the straight-line manners of your fav decide your mood for the day. Xtreme looks like the best blend of speed and class on a Soft track profile, and she should be able to hold a spot without getting too deep in the slog.
Zalique is dangerous if he finds a clean run, but the way the market has been behaving suggests there's a bit of uncertainty around him. Zou Force and Whateley both have claims, and I'm not ruling them out, because open handies are basically chaos machines with blinkers and a starting gate.
But the main story is: Xtreme is the most logical anchor and the each way value makes sense in this sort of race where the pace doesn't fully stop.
Top 3 + Roughie ($10.50 pool)
1. Xtreme (No.5) — $5.25 / $2.15
Bet $10.50 Each Way ($5.25W + $5.25P), return $27.56 (wins) / $11.29 (places)
Prob 18.1% | Place: 47.0% | Value: 1.25x
Why Strong on-pacer profile, and in a race like this, a smooth trip means you're in the finish. Market supports the runner.
2. Zalique (No.6) — $4.55 / $1.85
Bet Tracked
Prob 15.2% | Place: 47.0% | Value: 0.91x
Why Place option is there, but the way the value lines up, it's better to let others do the work.
3. Zou Force (No.7) — $6.20 / $2.25
Bet Tracked
Prob 13.8% | Place: 43.2% | Value: 1.13x
Why Rank-3 place watchlist, no profitable place band for this exact ticket angle.
Roughie: Whateley (No.4) — $13.00 / $4.00
Bet Tracked
Prob 4.9% | Place: 17.3% | Value: 0.83x
Why Needs a more chaos-y race shape to land in the right spot, and today I'm keeping the stake concentrated.
Race 3 – Merrylands RSL Mayhem
Race type: Merrylands RSL (Bm78), 2000m
Map & tempo: Moderate pace, Appeared is positioned to go forward, Aethelwulf is the backmarker threat
Punty read:
2000m on Soft 5 is all about sustain, not quick miracles. This race has enough tempo to keep runners honest, and that favours a horse who can either stalk into the race or sit just off the grind and keep drawing more out of the tank.
Aethelwulf is the clear story as the main speed-to-finish profile, even though she's listed as backmarker. On wet tracks, backmarkers can look dead, then suddenly become the only ones still moving when the rest are fading. That's the kind of "wait for it" race I live for.
Anthracite is the value angle for the place lane, and Appeared looks like she'll get a run with the leaders because the pace is meant to be moderate and not completely collapse.
Top 3 + Roughie ($7.00 pool)
1. Aethelwulf (No.3) — $1.48 / $1.03
Bet $7.00 Win, return $10.36
Prob 35.5% | Place: 69.0% | Value: 0.65x
Why Doesn't need to win early, just needs to stay in touch and come with momentum through the middle stages.
2. Anthracite (No.6) — $8.60 / $2.05
Bet $6.00 Place, return $12.30
Prob 14.5% | Place: 47.0% | Value: 1.54x
Why Wet-track friendly type who can keep finding. If the leaders tire, she's there to pick up the crumbs.
3. Appeared (No.7) — $9.75 / $2.35
Bet Tracked
Prob 11.9% | Place: 40.3% | Value: 1.44x
Why Place band isn't paying enough for the way this ticket's built, even though she's live.
Roughie: Kenmare Bay (No.5) — $13.00 / $2.65
Bet Tracked
Prob 8.8% | Place: 34.1% | Value: 1.43x
Why Can sneak a top three with the right run, but it's a "needs luck and pace collapse" sort of effort.
Race 4 – Mounties Group Battle Royale
Race type: Mounties Group (Bm78), 1500m
Map & tempo: Slow pace, so sprinting lanes and positioning matter a lot
Punty read:
Slow 1500 on Soft 5 is where the race can turn into a raffle. When it's not flying early, the ones who are supposed to sprint can still sprint, but the problem is they might be stuck behind the wrong horse at the wrong time.
Avista looks like the best blend of class and ability to handle the tempo. Transcend is right there as the danger for a place, because when the pace doesn't burn off, stalkers can get to their spots easier. Scripted is another that looks competitive, but the value on her place angle is more restrained.
Red Rags To Bulls as the roughie? Yeah, if the race becomes a mess late and the inside opens up, he can show enough to get a look. But he's not the type I want leading the ticket.
Top 3 + Roughie ($14.00 pool)
1. Avista (No.5) — $3.40 / $1.40
Bet $14.00 Win, return $47.60
Prob 26.4% | Place: 69.0% | Value: 1.08x
Why The best "slow pace, still finishes" horse. Synthetic hoof filler first time can tighten things up on the Soft.
2. Transcend (No.6) — $4.05 / $1.57
Bet $5.00 Place, return $7.85
Prob 22.4% | Place: 65.3% | Value: 1.09x
Why Stalks well and is built for a grind. The visor first time angle helps if the wet track sharpens her focus.
3. Scripted (No.4) — $4.70 / $1.70
Bet Tracked
Prob 19.7% | Place: 59.8% | Value: 1.11x
Why She's competitive, but the place band is too tight for this exact ticket style.
Roughie: Red Rags To Bulls (No.10) — $12.00 / $2.90
Bet Tracked
Prob 5.7% | Place: 21.2% | Value: 0.82x
Why Too many things have to line up late for him, so I'm not salting the top line with him.
Race 5 – Bankstown Sports Sticky Finish
Race type: Bankstown Sports (Bm78), 1500m
Map & tempo: Moderate pace, Steel Strike is advantaged, Mr Miller is the on-pacer anchor
Punty read:
1500 at Rosehill is where the "who's actually racing?" question gets answered. Mr Miller is the standout on-pace profile and should be able to park close enough to keep exerting pressure right through.
Puntin is the value place angle. If she can maintain contact without being stuck too far back, she's the type to hit the line hard late and get into the top three. Botanical Boy is live underneath too, but the place line for him is more of a watch and hope situation.
Stagnum is your sneaky one for a late swipe, but today Puntin is the one I'm treating like a cash machine for the place line.
Top 3 + Roughie ($10.50 pool)
1. Mr Miller (No.2) — $1.93 / $1.14
Bet $10.50 Win, return $20.27
Prob 29.1% | Place: 69.0% | Value: 0.70x
Why Speed map says stay near the action, and with this sort of tempo, it wins often enough.
2. Puntin (No.3) — $6.95 / $2.20
Bet Tracked
Prob 16.5% | Place: 48.1% | Value: 1.42x
Why Not taking it at this exact price band, I'd rather keep the ticket cleaner.
3. Botanical Boy (No.8) — $9.20 / $2.65
Bet Tracked
Prob 11.8% | Place: 36.6% | Value: 1.35x
Why Good horse, wrong angle for this specific ticket style.
Roughie: Stagnum (No.11) — $9.00 / $2.50
Bet Tracked
Prob 9.9% | Place: 34.1% | Value: 1.11x
Why Place chance is there, but needs the race to tighten up and the inside to open.
Race 6 – Campbelltown Catholic Club Shootout
Race type: Campbelltown Catholic Club (Bm78), 1100m
Map & tempo: Genuine pace, Oh Arthur and Lull press, Street Artist is in the midfield mix
Punty read:
1100 on Soft 5 is fast chaos. This is one of those races where your horse has to be in the correct "working position" and not just "coming from off the speed" in theory.
She's An Artist is the pick because she's got the right profile to turn the race into a grind, plus the early tempo helps her style. Street Artist is the big threat for the small margins, but I like the way She's An Artist holds her own on Soft.
Oh Arthur is the roughie price if you want a punt on a runner who can get brave early and not get eaten alive late.
Top 3 + Roughie ($20.00 pool)
1. She's An Artist (No.1) — $3.60 / $1.65
Bet $20.00 Win, return $72.00
Prob 24.1% | Place: 56.4% | Value: 1.08x
Why On the right side of the tempo and built for a Soft-track sprint grind. Blinkers on first time adds sharper focus.
2. Street Artist (No.7) — $3.35 / $1.52
Bet $4.00 Place, return $6.08
Prob 21.5% | Place: 60.4% | Value: 0.89x
Why Street Artist's speed map keeps her in the contest, and if the leaders get tested, she's right there.
3. Kimberley Secrets (No.4) — $5.60 / $2.05
Bet Tracked
Prob 13.8% | Place: 45.4% | Value: 0.96x
Why She's competitive, but not the best place angle for this ticket.
Roughie: Oh Arthur (No.12) — $10.80 / $3.40
Bet Tracked
Prob 8.2% | Place: 28.5% | Value: 1.10x
Why If he gets a genuine lead, he can hang on. If not, he's just spending energy early.
Race 7 – Canterbury-Hurlstone Park Up And Coming Stakes
Race type: Up And Coming Stakes (Open), 1300m
Map & tempo: Genuine pace, Plagiarism is the leader, and it's a race for the stalking lanes
Punty read:
Open 1300 where the pace is meant to be genuine, so the front isn't getting cleared by default. On Soft-ish trips, that matters because it stops the race turning into a walk for the leaders.
Savagram is your main win player. She can be near enough to the action and still have the finishing burst when the field starts to sort itself out. Plagiarism is the other big name, and Outspan isn't far behind, but the way the race shape reads, Savagram looks like she gets the better run into the final furlong.
Southend is roughie-ish, but he's the sort that needs the race to keep going so he can finish hard rather than get stranded.
Top 3 + Roughie ($20.00 pool)
1. Savagram (No.9) — $4.75 / $1.82
Bet $20.00 Win, return $95.00
Prob 22.9% | Place: 69.0% | Value: 1.32x

Bet $4.00 Place, return $7.20
Prob 18.5% | Place: 56.2% | Value: 1.05x
Why The leader vibe, and on a day where tempo stays honest, leaders can keep winning.
3. Outspan (No.4) — $9.80 / $2.90
Bet Tracked
Prob 10.1% | Place: 34.1% | Value: 1.20x
Why Place band isn't paying enough for this ticket shape, even though he's a live runner.
Roughie: Southend (No.3) — $9.45 / $2.80
Bet Tracked
Prob 9.2% | Place: 29.2% | Value: 1.06x
Why Needs the race to stay competitive late, but he's got the right profile to run on.
Race 8 – Smithfield San Domenico Stakes
Race type: Smithfield RSL San Domenico Stakes (Open), 1100m
Map & tempo: Genuine pace, Blue Door is leading, then it's a tight finish battle
Punty read:
1100 stakes races can be brutal because the split second matters more than the grand narrative. Blue Door is the main story because she's positioned to lead and keep controlling, and on a Soft 5, control is everything.
Guest House is the best of the rest, and Warwoven can absolutely knock on the door if the race stays honest. Revengeance is a roughie if you want the upset angle, but I'm not blowing my load there because Blue Door looks like she's already doing the hard work before the rest catch their breath.
Top 3 + Roughie ($6.50 pool)
1. Blue Door (No.6) — $2.29 / $1.13
Bet $6.50 Win, return $14.85
Prob 35.4% | Place: 58.2% | Value: 0.96x
Why Leads with authority and on Soft 5 she should be hard to run down. It's the kind of race where controlling position is winning position.
2. Guest House (No.1) — $5.15 / $1.65
Bet $2.00 Place, return $3.30
Prob 18.7% | Place: 47.0% | Value: 1.14x
Why Stays in range and looks like she'll finish the job for a place. The rail-out helps her line too.
3. Warwoven (No.4) — $6.75 / $1.90
Bet Tracked
Prob 14.6% | Place: 36.6% | Value: 1.17x
Why She's talented, but this ticket doesn't pay enough to justify the risk.
Roughie: Revengeance (No.5) — $10.50 / $2.60
Bet Tracked
Prob 6.6% | Place: 19.1% | Value: 0.82x
Why Needs a late window, and the leaders usually don't hand out windows for free.
Race 9 – Wests Group Macarthur Madness
Race type: Wests Group Macarthur (Bm100), 1500m
Map & tempo: Hot pace, Fully Lit leads the threat, Run Harry Run is also in the speed mix
Punty read:
Hot 1500 means the race can look simple until you realise the finish still has to happen. Fully Lit is the one that looks like she can handle the pressure and still keep going. Althoff is the speed danger, but he's more of the hedge than the main gun at his current price vibe.
Run Harry Run is the value runner in the race, because even if he doesn't win, the tempo could keep the race honest enough for him to pinch a place. Rolling Magic is the kind that can run on if the pace starts to flatten, but I'd need a touch more help than what's on offer.
Top 3 + Roughie ($10.50 pool)
1. Fully Lit (No.3) — $4.65 / $1.57
Bet $10.50 Win, return $48.83
Prob 27.7% | Place: 69.0% | Value: 1.55x

Bet Tracked
Prob 26.6% | Place: 69.0% | Value: 0.66x

Bet Tracked
Prob 16.9% | Place: 56.2% | Value: 1.26x

Roughie: I'mintowin (No.6) — $12.25 / $2.75
Bet Tracked
Prob 7.0% | Place: 25.2% | Value: 1.04x
Why Needs tempo to suit, but the win value isn't enough to justify him over the main two.
Race 10 – ClubsNSW Class Closer
Race type: ClubsNSW (Bm94), 1200m
Map & tempo: Moderate pace, Monte Kate is advantaged, Amazing Eagle is the best finishing style
Punty read:
1200 on a Soft-ish track is all about finishing and not losing position early. Amazing Eagle is the spine horse today, because she's got the profile to sit handy and hit the line. Grand Impact is the big value place angle and the one I'd lean on if the race gets tight late.
Cosmic Fire is the interesting one in the exotics world, but I'm happy enough with the win call being locked into the obvious finishing type. Monte Kate is roughie territory if she gets a run and the tempo doesn't overrun her.
If you're only betting one of the last two, make it this one, because the track shape suits the winner type.
Top 3 + Roughie ($9.50 pool)
1. Amazing Eagle (No.12) — $1.93 / $1.08
Bet $9.50 Win, return $18.34
Prob 36.0% | Place: 69.0% | Value: 0.85x
Why Finishes too strong for this grade on Soft 5, and she's the kind that keeps winning when others are merely surviving.

Bet $2.00 Place, return $2.90
Prob 28.5% | Place: 69.0% | Value: 1.32x
Why Place angle lines up, and the race shape should allow him to gather late.
3. Cosmic Fire (No.4) — $8.50 / $2.15
Bet Tracked
Prob 9.4% | Place: 40.3% | Value: 0.98x
Why Risk is too high for the place lane in this ticket structure.
Roughie: Monte Kate (No.11) — $15.25 / $3.40
Bet Tracked
Prob 5.6% | Place: 23.4% | Value: 1.05x
Why Needs a major shake-up and the right gap, so I'm letting the winner types do the heavy lifting.
SEQUENCE LANES
EARLY QUADDIE (R3–R6)
Smart: 3,6,7,5 / 5,10,6,1 / 2,3,8,11 / 1,12,4,5 (256 combos x $0.20 = $50.00) -- 20% flexi
Punty's take: Two middle legs are tighter, R5 and R6 are where the chaos rides, it's entertainment with a purpose.
QUADDIE (R7–R10)
Smart: 9,3,11 / 6,5,1 / 3,6,7 / 12,11,2 (81 combos x $0.25 = $20.00) -- 25% flexi
Punty's take: Four legs, but the winner types are stacked in each, still a bit spicy because late races punish wide margins.
BIG 6 (R5–R10)
Smart: 2,3,8,11 / 1,12,4,7 / 9,3,6,11 / 6,5,1,4 / 3,6,7,1 / 12,11,2,4 (4096 combos x $0.00 = $5.00) -- 0% flexi
Punty's take: Too many moving parts, this is for the sickos who want a lottery sweat. Tiny outlay, big dream.
NUGGETS FROM THE TRACK
1 - Rail out, but don't kid yourself
3m Entire helps the straight-line run, but Soft 5 still punishes horses forced wider for momentum, so the best rides are the ones that get position without wasting sprinting early.
2 - Blinkers and visors are money talk today
The gear switches are spread across the card, and when they're paired with on-pace or stalking map profiles, it often tightens focus when the track gets sticky, which is exactly when races get decided.
3 - The Soft 5 tempo trap
On genuine tempo races, the leaders stay dangerous longer than you expect. If you're backing off-the-speed only, you're basically asking for a Hollywood ending every time.
FINAL WORD FROM THE SICKO SANCTUARY
Alright legends, I'm backing the day to reward runners that don't get lost in the mud and the momentum. If you're placing bets, do it with confidence, and if you miss, at least make it a fun one. Gamble Responsibly.
