Punty's Punts
Race type: Benchmark 75, 2100m
Map & tempo: Genuine Pace, Gate Crashers out to set the tone
Punty read: This is a "who controls the mud" race. No.3 Gate Crashers looks like the kind of leader that turns a genuine pace into a weapon, and if they get over to the front clean, the race becomes a long slow walk for the others. Meanwhile, No.8 Allaces is sitting nicely for a stalking role, and on Soft 5 at Te Rapa, stalking is basically a cheat code when the leaders are willing to run. The danger is anyone getting forced wide early, because 2100m is enough distance for one ugly moment to cost your finish.
Top 3 + Roughie ($4.00 pool)
1. Allaces (No.8) — $5.50 / $2.15 🏆 UNPLACED
Bet $4.00 Win — ✗ Lost, net -$4.00
Prob 12.1% | Place: 34.2% | Value: 0.91x
Why She profiles as the right kind of grinder on Soft 5, and the market's been leaning in for a reason.
2. Vito (No.6) — $6.00 / $2.25 🏆 UNPLACED
Bet Tracked
Prob 17.9% | Place: 46.1% | Value: 1.35x
Why A real chance — but at $2.25 the place the numbers don't give me enough edge to insure with. Watching, not betting.
3. Gate Crashers (No.3) — $5.50 / $2.10 🏆 WINNER
Bet Tracked
Prob 23.1% | Place: 46.1% | Value: 1.07x

Roughie: Skymax (No.2) — $13.00 / $3.80 🏆 UNPLACED
Bet Tracked
Prob 6.4% | Place: 24.1% | Value: 1.05x
Why If the speed drops off or the field gets stretched, he can swoop into the placings and pick up the pieces.
Race type: Maiden, 1400m
Map & tempo: Moderate Pace, plenty of midfield pressure
Punty read: Maiden racing on Soft 5 is always a chaos oven, but this one still has a shape. No.7 Kalgarry Ally is likely to be near the action, and No.8 Lofty Manuel has the kind of profile that can run on if they don't overcook it. The wildcard is how the early tempo sorts out the stamina, because at 1400m, Soft can steal the sprint response. Still, I like the runners with clear racing intent, not the ones that look like they're waiting for permission.
Top 3 + Roughie ($9.00 pool)
1. Russian Prime (No.15) — $3.70 / $1.65 🏆 3RD
Bet $9.00 Win — ✗ Lost, net -$9.00
Prob 28.4% | Place: 54.3% | Value: 1.07x
Why Big race feel in the Soft, and the pace picture makes it hard to bury him late.
2. Kalgarry Ally (No.7) — $4.40 / $1.85 🏆 UNPLACED

Roughie: Bunker Hill (No.2) — $15.00 / $3.80 🏆 WINNER
Bet Tracked
Prob 3.7% | Place: 17.8% | Value: 0.58x
Why His path is simple, get a midfield trip and hope the race opens up late.
Race type: Maiden, 1400m
Map & tempo: Genuine Pace, Ghost In Th'castle pushing the tempo
Punty read: This is pace up front, with the question being who can keep their feet. No.16 Ellendale is the best "stays in it" type here, and when a maiden shapes up with a genuine leader, the ones that can match speed early and still sprint last are the ones that win. The Frenchman and Top Marks look like they'll be in the mix, but Soft 5 at 1400m usually punishes anything that has to go hunting for room late. Ellendale is drawn to get into a rhythm, which is what you want.
Top 3 + Roughie ($13.00 pool)
1. Ellendale (No.16) — $2.50 / $1.37 🏆 WINNER
Bet $13.00 Win — ✓ Won, net +$19.50
Prob 35.6% | Place: 61.5% | Value: 1.01x

Roughie: Tsunami Sue (No.10) — $10.00 / $3.00 🏆 UNPLACED
Bet Tracked
Prob 7.4% | Place: 25.4% | Value: 0.76x
Why Needs a run that tips the race open, otherwise Soft steals her finishing burst.
Race type: Benchmark 65, 1600m
Map & tempo: Genuine Pace, Pure Bars setting the tone
Punty read: This is the "who can sit off without losing ground on Soft" race. No.10 Pure Bars is the leader type, but leaders in Soft 5 at 1600m can find themselves working overtime if the field keeps pressure. No.11 Uptown is the interesting one in the mix, because he's got that stalking profile and the price is telling you he might be the value swing against the favourite-type. Sweet Ice is well placed if she gets a fair crack, but on a wet track, the run can change quickly at the 600m mark.
Top 3 + Roughie ($6.50 pool)
1. Sweet Ice (No.1) — $4.50 / $1.90 🏆 3RD
Bet $6.50 Win — ✗ Lost, net -$6.50
Prob 17.8% | Place: 45.9% | Value: 0.91x
Why She's the class angle on her own, and Soft 5 suits a balanced runner who can keep driving.

Roughie: Yokozuna (No.6) — $9.00 / $3.00 🏆 2ND
Bet Tracked
Prob 9.9% | Place: 29.7% | Value: 1.27x
Why Roughie plan is simple, find the rail or find a pocket and keep picking up ground.
Race type: Benchmark 65, 1200m
Map & tempo: Hot Pace, Oberon and others pushing hard
Punty read: Short straight with Hot pace, this is where you either sprint or you die. No.10 Party Time maps to get involved early, and with Soft in play, a fast start is worth more than people think because it positions you before the track takes your tyres. I'm also very alive to No.1 Magic Carpet, because if he's given even a sniff of room, 1200m is long enough for a smart runner to turn chaos into points.
Top 3 + Roughie ($11.00 pool)
1. Party Time (No.10) — $3.60 / $1.65 🏆 WINNER
Bet $11.00 Each Way ($5.50W + $5.50P) — ✓ Won, net +$17.88
Prob 22.6% | Place: 46.1% | Value: 1.04x

Bet Tracked
Prob 8.1% | Place: 28.0% | Value: 1.16x
Why If the leaders get into a duel and the pack fragments, she can steam home through the gaps.
Race type: Open, 1200m
Map & tempo: Moderate Pace, With A Vengeance looking to lead
Punty read: This is the "little engine, big job" race. No.1 With A Vengeance is drawn to press forward, and on a Soft 5 1200m, controlled speed is everything. If they can use his natural toe without getting work-rushed, he's got the kind of profile that wins while everyone else is still negotiating footing. Shalabiya is short for a reason, but I like the idea of Phillyjean and The Sweetest Song getting included in trifecta land if the leader has to work.
Top 3 + Roughie ($10.50 pool)
1. With A Vengeance (No.1) — $2.80 / $1.37 🏆 4TH

Roughie: The Sweetest Song (No.7) — $9.50 / $2.65 🏆 UNPLACED
Bet Tracked
Prob 7.6% | Place: 27.8% | Value: 1.02x
Why She's got the profile to pick off tired leaders, and that's exactly how roughies get paid.
Race type: Open, 1200m
Map & tempo: Genuine Pace, Jethro Tull pushing early
Punty read: Fast straight, genuine pace, and a bunch of runners who can actually win without needing a miracle. Chatelle Rose looks like the one that can sit handy and keep switching off the rail to hold momentum. Sweet Smile is right in the race, and Ma Te Wa looks like the kind of horse that can keep going if the track is still holding together. The big danger is jockey decisions, because with Soft and pressure, one wrong check and you lose all your late acceleration.
Top 3 + Roughie ($6.00 pool)
1. Chatelle Rose (No.11) — $4.80 / $1.95 🏆 WINNER
Bet $6.00 Win — ✓ Won, net +$22.80
Prob 17.8% | Place: 46.1% | Value: 1.00x

Prob 4.0% | Place: 17.8% | Value: 0.81x
Why Roughie route is chaotic, but if the pace melts and he finds clear air, he can pop into it.
Race type: Open, 1500m
Map & tempo: Genuine Pace, Cluedo Lane up front
Punty read: 1500m on Soft 5 is a different beast to 1200m, you get more time for the race to sort itself out. Cluedo Lane will look dangerous early, but the real money is in who can track that speed and keep their engine from overheating. What You Wish For has the profile to sit midfield and then run a straight line late, and that's what you want when the rail is out 8m and the track is taking hold.
Top 3 + Roughie ($15.00 pool)
1. What You Wish For (No.5) — $6.00 / $2.25 🏆 2ND

Why If he holds onto the speed longer than expected, he can pinch it while others are winding down.
Race type: Benchmark 75, 1400m
Map & tempo: Moderate Pace, Origin Of Love handy early
Punty read: This is a quality handicap with a clean pace picture, and that usually makes it a punter's friend. Origin Of Love is drawn for a reason, and if he can hold a position without getting trapped deep, he should keep doing the job at the finish. Bolli Belle is the big value threat, Pulsatilla is the right type for Soft, and Paddy The Farmer is the wildcard that can make the race turn into a proper fight.

Punty's Early Mail
Rightio Loose Units, Te Rapa is set up like a bogan house party in winter, Soft 5, rail out 8m, and rain sitting there thinking about ruining your exacta plans. It's the sort of day where the early speed earns its keep, and the ones who get clear run in the first 200m get to keep their dignity right through to the line.
2 things I'm watching like a hawk with a mortgage:
First, the pace is "genuine" in a bunch of these races, so if a horse maps to be up there, I'm treating them like they've got a VIP wristband. Second, with rain risk sitting over the meeting, any runner that settles close and keeps rolling will get rewarded, because Soft 5 at Te Rapa can turn into a late-swerve slaughter.
MEET SNAPSHOT
Track: Te Rapa, 1200-2100m card
Rail: Out 8m
Official going: Soft 5 (expected to play Fair-ish speed, with runners who can keep momentum)
Weather: Overcast (watch for wet track progression, especially later races if the clouds go full Tim Allen)
Early lane guess: On speed and close handy
Tempo profile: Multiple races look like genuine pace, with a bias towards leaders or stalking positions surviving the mud
Jockeys to follow:
Sam McNab: He's popping up all over the on-pace and leader maps, and on Soft, the guys who control tempo cash in.
Lynsey Satherley: Persistent presence across the cards, and she tends to put horses in the right spot when rain does its thing.
Tom Wigram: When his runners are midfield but have a clean closing run, they're usually not there for moral support.
Stables to respect:
Mark Walker & Sam Bergerson (8 runners): Consistent Te Rapa profile, they get them fit, they get them there, and they often improve on the map.
S B Marsh (7 runners): Loads of strong placements across this list, especially where the race shape suits.
S Ritchie & C Murray (6 runners): They're not afraid to back early speed, and in Soft 5, that intent matters.
Punty's take:
Te Rapa on Soft 5 is a racecourse where you can get away with mistakes, as long as you do them early. Miss the break, get shuffled, and suddenly you're sprinting through treacle. So I want horses that can either grab a position early or sit right behind it, because when the rain hits properly, it turns every run into a "hold your line" test.
The day's basically Speed vs Soil. In the early races, you've got enough pace that leaders and stalkers can actually keep winning, and once you get to the open handicap stuff, the Soft track magnifies class and jockey management. That's why I'm leaning heavy on the ones with race-shaping jobs, rather than the ones just hoping for a gap to appear like it's part of the magic show.
What it means for you:
Be aggressive in races where the leaders have a job and the barriers allow them to hold their spot. If a horse is drawn awkward but has to be wide, I'm not "throwing the baby out with the bathwater", I'm just downgrading the win hope and keeping them in the place and exotics lane.
For value, I'm keen on the runners the market is ignoring or underplaying, but I'm also not married to longshots. The backbone of the day is made for place pressure and win at the top end, because Soft 5 tends to reward horses that keep trucking when everyone else is slowing down, mid-race and into the last 200.
