Punty's Punts
Race type: Open, 1215m
Map & tempo: Slow Pace, ON-PACE leaders can steal the show
Punty read:
This is a small field, which means the "wrong run" story is usually traffic, not tactics. Spellbound (No.2) is the one that should get an easy run into the first bend, because everything about his profile screams he wants to be doing something, not saving something. He's drawn okay and the betting has teeth, with firming on a horse that already looks suited to Soft without needing a miracle.
Rhaena (No.8) is the danger in a "slow race, then sprint it out" kind of finish. If the front group walks, she can run on and pick up lengths late. Delete Delete (No.4) is the kind of runner who can be there for a slice, but with the market not backing him hard, I'd treat him more like a minor upset piece than the main event. Sir Richie (No.3) has an excuse in the last run, but with this being a small field, excuses get tougher to cash in.
Top 3 + Roughie ($12.00 pool)
★ PUNTY'S PICK 1. Spellbound (No.2) — $2.80 / $1.50 🏆 WINNER
Bet $12.00 Win — ✓ Won, net +$21.60
Prob 39.8% | Place: 2.2% | Value: 1.10x
Why ON-PACE profile in a slow tempo, Soft win form on the page, and he's getting market respect.
2. Rhaena (No.8) — $5.50 / $2.35 🏆 4TH
Bet Tracked
Prob 26.1% | Place: 2.2% | Value: 1.32x
Why A real chance — but at $2.35 the place the numbers don't give me enough edge to insure with. Watching, not betting.
3. Delete Delete (No.4) — $2.55 / $2.15 🏆 3RD
Bet Tracked
Prob 23.4% | Place: 2.2% | Value: 0.68x
Why Could run a cheeky race, but the value doesn't back him for Win only.
Roughie: Sir Richie (No.3) — $12.00 / $3.40 🏆 2ND
Bet Tracked
Prob 10.7% | Place: 2.2% | Value: 1.11x
Why Interference excuse is fair, but against three other proven runners at Arawa Park, he needs everything to go right.
Race type: Benchmark 65, 1215m
Map & tempo: Genuine Pace, leaders in motion
Punty read:
This has the vibe of a race where the front two will try to run the rest into the ground, and that's why I'm watching who can sit close without getting shuffled. Oberon leads in the wider picture, but today I'm all about Le Jacques Cartier (No.2). If they're genuinely rolling, a horse that's on-pacing and already within range can hit the line without needing the whole track to fall apart.
Luminance (No.8) is the value tease. She's the type who can be involved late if the speed holds its nerve and she gets a clean crack. State Secret (No.11) is another one that can run a solid race, and Sant Maurici looks like one for the exotics if you're chasing chaos. But for Win, I'm not paying for chaos when No.2 is the cleanest story.
Top 3 + Roughie ($7.00 pool)
1. Le Jacques Cartier (No.2) — $5.50 / $1.90 🏆 WINNER
Bet $7.00 Each Way ($3.50W + $3.50P) — ✓ Won, net +$18.90
Prob 14.4% | Place: 38.9% | Value: 1.03x
Why On-pace in a genuine tempo, and he looks like he'll get a real crack at the finish without being hunted early.
2. Luminance (No.8) — $8.50 / $2.80 🏆 UNPLACED
Bet Tracked
Prob 14.1% | Place: 38.9% | Value: 1.38x
Why The top pick's each-way already covers the place angle here — doubling up is paying twice for the same insurance. Tracked instead.
3. State Secret (No.11) — $6.50 / $2.40 🏆 UNPLACED
Bet Tracked
Prob 13.0% | Place: 38.8% | Value: 0.93x
Why She can run into it, just not the right one to add on top of the EW main.
Roughie: Pollyisacracker (No.9) — $19.00 / $3.70 🏆 UNPLACED
Bet Tracked
Prob 4.0% | Place: 17.8% | Value: 0.98x
Why If the speed collapses she swoops, but with a genuine tempo, you want the late runners only if the race shapes up kindly.
Race type: Maiden, 1400m
Map & tempo: Slow Pace, midfield chances to grind
Punty read:
Maiden 1400m on Soft 7, slow tempo, and a bunch of horses that will all have their little "today's the day" moments. I'm siding with Concurrence (No.12) because she's the one the race structure supports, and she looks like she can hit the line with enough punch when the pace is controlled. On a slow-run maiden, you want the horse that can sit around midfield and still be finding something.
Celebrate Now (No.4) is the other live one. Royce (No.11) is the sort of contender who can hang on for a piece, while Rakonui (No.6) is the value roughie profile if the race opens up late. But for the main stake, Concurrence is the cleanest way to attack.
Top 3 + Roughie ($9.00 pool)
1. Concurrence (No.12) — $3.50 / $1.62 🏆 WINNER
Bet $9.00 Win — ✓ Won, net +$22.50
Prob 21.8% | Place: 46.1% | Value: 1.17x
Why Maiden, but her profile fits the slow tempo, and she should get enough cover to measure them.
2. Celebrate Now (No.4) — $4.20 / $1.80 🏆 3RD
Bet Tracked
Prob 17.1% | Place: 45.9% | Value: 0.72x
Why A real chance — but at $1.80 the place the numbers don't give me enough edge to insure with. Watching, not betting.
3. Royce (No.11) — $4.80 / $1.95 🏆 UNPLACED
Bet Tracked
Prob 16.0% | Place: 38.9% | Value: 0.77x
Why Can place, but for Win only I want a clearer edge.
Roughie: Assassina (No.7) — $13.00 / $3.90 🏆 UNPLACED
Bet Tracked
Prob 6.3% | Place: 24.1% | Value: 0.91x
Why Big field energy might help her, but she's chasing a slice, not a procession.
Race type: Benchmark 65, 1400m
Map & tempo: Genuine Pace, no slow walk today
Punty read:
This one's a proper Bm65 battle, and under Soft 7 the genuine pace just makes it more about getting into the right lane early. Bethany Dee (No.4) is my key. She's got the class profile and the race map suits her to be in the mix, not stuck watching leaders turn the race into a train.
Our Solana (No.11) and Savvy Donna (No.5) are the dangers if Bethany Dee finds traffic at the wrong time. Hell Island (No.3) is the roughie type if the backmarkers are allowed to keep momentum and the front group tows itself into trouble. But honestly, if Bethany Dee gets a comfortable run, she's the one most likely to keep extending rather than getting swallowed late.
Top 3 + Roughie ($10.50 pool)
1. Bethany Dee (No.4) — $3.00 / $1.50
Bet $10.50 Win — ⊘ Abandoned · bet voided (stake refunded)
Prob 31.9% | Place: 58.9% | Value: 1.23x
Why Soft-track performer with the right barrier to race into it, and the market's got the "she's the one" vibe.
2. Our Solana (No.11) — $4.80 / $1.95
Bet Tracked
Prob 13.5% | Place: 38.8% | Value: 0.90x
Why Looks competitive, but I'm not adding risk when Bethany Dee is the right anchor.
3. Savvy Donna (No.5) — $7.00 / $2.50
Bet Tracked
Prob 12.1% | Place: 34.4% | Value: 1.05x
Why She's live for a place run, but the value line isn't screaming for a Win add-on.
Roughie: Hell Island (No.3) — $10.00 / $3.30
Bet Tracked
Prob 7.3% | Place: 24.4% | Value: 0.92x
Why She's got a path if the race turns messy, but she needs more luck than I want at this price.
Race type: Benchmark 65, 1950m
Map & tempo: Genuine Pace, classic grind
Punty read:
1950m in Soft is where the race can feel long and then suddenly short at the same time. You want a horse that can travel without burning matches, because the last part is wet-ground arithmetic. Steadfast (No.1) is drawn in a way that lets him get a tow into the race, and the whole profile screams he's not just "there", he's there to keep giving you an honest run.
Sonoran (No.2) and Cosmic Pursuit (No.4) are the main threats if they find a better run through the middle. Mr Blackjack (No.7) is the value roughie if the gaps appear late and he's off the bit at the right moment. But for the stake, Steadfast is the cleanest.
Top 3 + Roughie ($3.50 pool)
1. Sonoran (No.2) — $7.00 / $2.50
Bet $3.50 Win — ⊘ Abandoned · bet voided (stake refunded)
Prob 13.3% | Place: 34.1% | Value: 1.13x
Why Value's decent, but not enough edge to split the stake.
2. Steadfast (No.1) — $6.00 / $2.25
Bet Tracked
Prob 13.2% | Place: 34.1% | Value: 0.95x
Why Keeps it simple, Soft suits the stayable style, and he should get every chance without doing too much early.
3. Cosmic Pursuit (No.4) — $7.50 / $2.65
Bet Tracked
Prob 11.5% | Place: 32.7% | Value: 0.98x
Why Might be there late, just not the one I want for Win when I've got the lead-up anchor.
Roughie: Mr Blackjack (No.7) — $12.00 / $3.80
Bet Tracked
Prob 9.9% | Place: 29.3% | Value: 1.43x
Why If the tempo holds, he can run on. If it's chaos, he's the one who benefits, but today I'm playing it tight.
Race type: Open, 1950m
Map & tempo: Genuine Pace, longer sprint into the fog
Punty read:
1950m Open is where the good horses separate themselves from the nice resumes. Levakia (No.5) is the main anchor today, even though the exact box seat might not be obvious early. She's the kind of runner who can handle Soft and keep coming when the race gets hard.
One Bold Cat (No.2) and Son Of Sun (No.6) are the obvious challengers, and they're the sort that can capitalise if Levakia gets stuck in a traffic moment. Solidify (No.11) is the roughie profile if the race opens late and he can swing wide to finish strong. Still, I'm backing the most straightforward story for the Win.
Top 3 + Roughie ($10.50 pool)
1. Levakia (No.5) — $3.20 / $1.55
Bet $10.50 Win — ⊘ Abandoned · bet voided (stake refunded)
Prob 18.3% | Place: 46.1% | Value: 0.82x
Why Soft-track profile plus a race-shape that should suit her to keep grinding, and the stable looks committed.
2. One Bold Cat (No.2) — $6.50 / $2.40
Bet Tracked
Prob 14.5% | Place: 38.8% | Value: 1.27x
Why The value angle is there, but today the main stake stays with Levakia.
3. Son Of Sun (No.6) — $6.50 / $2.40
Bet Tracked
Prob 13.2% | Place: 34.1% | Value: 1.16x
Why Can threaten the finish, just not enough to take your stake off the anchor.
Roughie: Solidify (No.11) — $10.00 / $3.30
Bet Tracked
Prob 9.6% | Place: 29.3% | Value: 1.30x
Why He's live if the pace falls apart, but I'm not spreading too wide at this stage.
Race type: Open, 1215m
Map & tempo: Moderate Pace, fast finish pressure
Punty read:
1215m Open on Soft is sprint chaos, but there's still logic underneath it. Platinum Attack (No.1) is the one I keep circling. If she gets a midfield-to-forward trip without being asked early, she can hit that finishing burst and make it look easy.
Chatelle Rose (No.9) is the main threat. She's got the on-pace profile and can absolutely run into the money if the leaders drift apart. Jaarffi (No.6) is another one for your trifecta combos if you're feeling spicy. Twain and Navigator are there for the minor damage, and Slipper Island is your roughie if the backmarkers get a fair late crack.
Top 3 + Roughie ($15.00 pool)
1. Platinum Attack (No.1) — $3.50 / $1.62
Bet $15.00 Win — ⊘ Abandoned · bet voided (stake refunded)
Prob 26.4% | Place: 52.8% | Value: 1.22x
Why Built for this sprint story, and she should get the right run without getting swallowed early.
2. Chatelle Rose (No.9) — $5.00 / $1.95
Bet Tracked
Prob 14.3% | Place: 38.9% | Value: 0.95x
Why She's live for a place run, but I'm not paying for second best when No.1 is the main act.
3. Jaarffi (No.6) — $7.00 / $2.50
Bet Tracked
Prob 11.9% | Place: 34.1% | Value: 1.10x
Why Value's tempting, but today the ticket's tight around Platinum Attack.
Roughie: Slipper Island (No.5) — $15.00 / $3.70
Bet Tracked
Prob 4.9% | Place: 21.7% | Value: 0.98x
Why If something goes wrong up front, she can fly late. If not, she's got to work harder than the map suggests.
Race type: Benchmark 75, 1400m
Map & tempo: Genuine Pace, leaders putting pressure on
Punty read:
This is the last race, so naturally it's going to be dramatic. Under Bm75 on Soft, you want a horse that can sit where the race is forming and keep finding. Confesara (No.5) is the pick because her profile matches the track demands and she's the kind of horse that can be in the right pocket early.
Tiantai (No.13) is the danger if she can land forward and then keep sticking on. War Queen (No.8) is the long-ish shot in this group and Thorax (No.17) is your roughie if the gaps appear and the pace turns into a sprint at the right time. Erin Go Bragh (No.1) is the leader type, but this feels like a "pocketed horse wins" kind of finish rather than a "pure front-runner survives" job.
Top 3 + Roughie ($6.50 pool)
1. Confesara (No.5) — $3.50 / $1.62
Bet $6.50 Win — ⊘ Abandoned · bet voided (stake refunded)
Prob 24.9% | Place: 46.1% | Value: 1.26x
Why She's got the race-shape fit for a wet 1400, and Confesara looks like the one that keeps responding when asked.
2. Tiantai (No.13) — $3.80 / $1.70
Bet Tracked
Prob 20.8% | Place: 46.1% | Value: 1.11x
Why Solid, but I'm not double-dipping on Win when Confesara is the better anchor.
3. War Queen (No.8) — $3.70 / $1.65
Bet Tracked
Prob 11.2% | Place: 33.3% | Value: 0.58x
Why Price is fine, but the value line isn't backing her for a straight Win add.
Roughie: Thorax (No.17) — $10.00 / $3.30
Bet Tracked
Prob 7.1% | Place: 24.4% | Value: 1.05x
Why She's got a path if the leaders get chewed up, but she's still chasing a top end finish.

Punty's Early Mail
Rightio Sickos, Arawa Park is running Soft 7 with showers hanging around like a drunk bloke who wont go home. Slow pace in the early races means your "good" horses need to keep breathing, and your roughies need a bit of chaos to do the heavy lifting. Get ready for front runners to get first pick of the road, and for the ones stuck wide to pay rent.
Today is one of those meetings where you can feel the track having an opinion. True rail, wet patches, and plenty of field sizes that make traffic jams more common than people pretending they read the form. I'm leaning on a spine of three that look like they can either control the tempo or just keep ticking at Arawa Park when the footing is soft and the finish comes around quicker than your mates' excuses.
If you want the quick version, here it is. Races 1, 4 and 7 are where my eyes keep getting dragged back, and where I'd want to be positioned. Then the multirace chaos ticket is there for when the track decides to laugh at everyone who backed the favourites to do the job quietly.
MEET SNAPSHOT
Track: Arawa Park, 1215m-1950m card
Rail: True
Official going: Soft 7 (expected to play Sticky, keep-it-running type races)
Weather: Showers (watch for wet interruptions, sloppy handbrakes late)
Early lane guess: Early speed holds up better than people think, especially from barriers 1-4
Tempo profile: Slow to moderate early, then the later races look more "genuine pace", less crawl
Jockeys to follow:
George Rooke: gets on well, and he's riding like he's trying to catch up to a lost ticket
Lily Sutherland: clean execution, often puts the horse where it can actually strike
Hayley Hassman: knows how to keep a car moving through a soft section without panicking
Stables to respect:
S B Marsh (7 runners): often drops them in the right spots, and they handle this surface vibe
R James & R Wellwood (3 runners): lots of handy type work, and their debuts and resumers feel intentional
S B Marsh (7 runners): yeah, I'm saying it twice because this stable's everywhere today, like the smell of chips near the birdcage
Punty's take:
Races 1 to 4 are the money lanes for me. The early tempo is slow, which means leaders and on-pacers get a dream run, but it also means one wrong step inside the first 200 can ruin your whole day. In Race 1 (3yo Open), Spellbound looks like the speed map is basically escorting him to the front, and with the market tightening on him, I'm not overthinking it. Rhaena's the one I'd keep in the back pocket if things go sideways.
Race 4 is where I want to be decisive. Bethany Dee is drawn to race with confidence, and when a horse is that price and that live on Soft, I like the "put the kettle on and wait" type energy. Race 7 is the showpiece sprint, and Platinum Attack has that "if they go slow, I'll still be there" vibe. This is the sort of race where one classy punch landing early can change everything.
What it means for you:
Make your day about position and intent. Back the horses that can either lead or hold a stalking spot without getting stuck behind piles of mud-churners. For the value adds, I'm mostly letting the market moves do the talking, but I'm not blind to the fact Arawa Park under Soft 7 can turn "easy wins" into photo finishes or heartbreak.
My game plan is simple. Aggressive early through Race 1, then lock Race 4 as a key builder. After that, let Race 7 set the tone and keep the day alive. If a favourite drifts, I'll respect it, but if the on-pacer profile lines up and the horse is firming, I'm backing what looks logical under a wet, squishy finish.
