Punty's Punts
Race type: Class 5, 1200m
Map & tempo: Genuine Pace, leaders look set for the jump, Happy Action has the pace edge
Punty read: This is chaos handled as a handicap, and the trick is not getting hypnotised by the "easy" names. Thousand Cups looks like he'll try to lead or at least be involved, but the real danger is the horse that can sit midfield, then slide into the lane as the leaders tire. Jolly Companion maps beautifully to be in play, and if the race stays genuine, he gets every chance to hit the line like he means it. Flying Sniper has excuses written all over him too, so if traffic buggers clear up, he's the one who can jump up and steal a slice of the finish.
Top 3 + Roughie ($10.50 pool)
1. Jolly Companion (No.4) — $5.60 / $2.70 🏆 11TH
Bet $10.50 Each Way ($5.25W + $5.25P) — ✗ Lost, net -$10.50
Prob 17.9% | Place: 48.2% | Value: 1.13x
Why He's fav for a reason, he sits on the right kind of trip, and he's got that "I'll be there, no drama" vibe late.
2. Thousand Cups (No.12) — $21.00 / $4.50 🏆 5TH
Bet Tracked
Prob 10.8% | Place: 27.8% | Value: 2.53x
Why The top pick's each-way already covers the place angle here — doubling up is paying twice for the same insurance. Tracked instead.
3. Happy Action (No.10) — $11.00 / $3.30 🏆 8TH
Bet Tracked
Prob 9.4% | Place: 31.9% | Value: 1.27x
Why Pace advantage points, plus he's one that can keep chipping away through the line if they go forward early.
Roughie: Flying Sniper (No.1) — $11.00 / $3.20 🏆 9TH
Bet Tracked
Prob 8.6% | Place: 27.4% | Value: 1.09x
Why He's got legitimate "held up" excuses, if he gets clear air this time, he can ping a finish.
Race type: Class 5, 1000m
Map & tempo: Moderate Pace, Topspin King and Dash both rate handy early
Punty read: Short sprint, so it's basically survival of the fastest. Sunny Q looks like she can tuck in and still be in the fight, and Spicy Spangle gives you that early pressure. If the pace is moderate like the map suggests, those box-seat runners are the ones who'll sprint cleanly late without needing a miracle. Verbier is your roughie roulette ticket, because when he hits the right spot, he can run over the top of a tired field.
Top 3 + Roughie ($15.00 pool)
1. Sunny Q (No.1) — $7.60 / $2.80 🏆 WINNER
Bet $15.00 Each Way ($7.50W + $7.50P) — ✓ Won, net +$63.00
Prob 15.9% | Place: 54.5% | Value: 1.35x
Why The map says midfield, but at 1000m that's gold if you don't get stuck, she's the type that can work into a winning run.
2. Spicy Spangle (No.4) — $6.50 / $2.30 🏆 5TH
Bet Tracked
Prob 15.4% | Place: 46.2% | Value: 1.15x
Why The top pick's each-way already covers the place angle here — doubling up is paying twice for the same insurance. Tracked instead.
3. Autumn Vibes (No.2) — $5.40 / $2.50 🏆 3RD
Bet Tracked
Prob 13.5% | Place: 49.9% | Value: 0.81x
Why Even if he's not the value, he can still be in the mix if the leaders don't sprint away and leave him stranded.
Roughie: Verbier (No.6) — $17.00 / $4.20 🏆 11TH
Bet Tracked
Prob 9.0% | Place: 35.3% | Value: 1.81x
Why Big price, but if the pace holds together longer than expected, he's got the right structure to lift late and surprise.
Race type: Class 4, 1200m
Map & tempo: Moderate Pace, Call Me Sparkle and Lucky Doctor are the likely influences early
Punty read: This one's a proper "who gets the right run" race. Crossborderdude and Call Me Sparkle both profile as ON-PACE types, so you're likely going to see them fighting for position while others try to find cover and unwind late. Call Me Sparkle has blinkers on first time and the barrier lines up nicely, that's a classic "new gear, fresh intent" combo. Crossborderdude gives the stable a consistent case, but if the speed doesn't collapse, Warriors Dream and Holmes A Court are the ones who can sneak into the numbers without needing the leaders to fall apart.
Top 3 + Roughie ($10.50 pool)
1. Call Me Sparkle (No.2) — $5.30 / $1.90 🏆 2ND
Bet $10.50 Each Way ($5.25W + $5.25P) — Cashed, net -$0.53
Prob 15.6% | Place: 45.6% | Value: 1.00x
Why New blinkers can sharpen him up, and on an even tempo he's the one who can hold the speed and keep running at the line.
2. Crossborderdude (No.1) — $5.10 / $2.00 🏆 8TH
Bet Tracked
Prob 14.6% | Place: 36.5% | Value: 0.88x
Why The top pick's each-way already covers the place angle here — doubling up is paying twice for the same insurance. Tracked instead.
3. Warriors Dream (No.10) — $26.00 / $4.20 🏆 6TH
Bet Tracked
Prob 10.1% | Place: 32.0% | Value: 3.00x
Why Big odds means value if the field falls into chaos, and he's built for that late surge run.
Roughie: Holmes A Court (No.6) — $39.00 / $4.60 🏆 12TH
Bet Tracked
Prob 9.9% | Place: 31.1% | Value: 4.24x
Why If the pace doesn't drag the backmarkers too far, he can get into the finish with a slingshot run.
Race type: Class 3, 1200m
Map & tempo: Hot Pace, Lucy In The Sky and Sky Cap looking to set it up
Punty read: Hot tempo at 1200 on a Good track makes it a fast runway, not a slow dance. Bustling City is the obvious point-of-call from the speed, he's the one who can keep rolling and force others to sprint harder. But Kempes and Together We Value are the two I'm watching because they can sit just off the speed and then pounce when the early effort starts taking rent. Sky Cap's thereabouts too, and Cala Dei Mori is the type that can make a mockery of your "form is form" chat if the price turns out wrong.
Top 3 + Roughie ($7.00 pool)
1. Bustling City (No.2) — $1.40 / $1.10 🏆 2ND
Bet $7.00 Win — ✗ Lost, net -$7.00
Prob 23.3% | Place: 62.4% | Value: 0.37x
Why He's built to lead or press, and in a hot tempo race, being up front is everything.
2. Kempes (No.8) — $11.00 / $2.30 🏆 WINNER
Bet Tracked
Prob 17.3% | Place: 49.5% | Value: 1.95x
Why A real chance — but at $2.30 the place the numbers don't give me enough edge to insure with. Watching, not betting.
3. Together We Value (No.7) — $14.00 / $2.30 🏆 5TH
Bet Tracked
Prob 16.9% | Place: 53.3% | Value: 2.77x
Why He's right in that box-seat lane, and if the speed is genuine, he gets the perfect timing for the finish.
Roughie: Lucy In The Sky (No.1) — $9.50 / $2.05 🏆 3RD
Bet Tracked
Prob 14.1% | Place: 45.6% | Value: 1.88x
Why If she's allowed to control, she'll keep running, and at this track, leading types usually do not just fold.
Race type: Class 4, 1200m
Map & tempo: Moderate Pace, Tactical Ace is the tactical influence
Punty read: This is a "tempo-dependent" race. With a moderate pace, you want runners that can build into the race rather than be too far away too early. Mega Captain is the market anchor but you can see why the others are dangerous. Armour War Eagle's got that punchy profile, and Giant Leap and Somelovefromabove are built for a straight run into the finish. Juicy Dragon can be awkward because he's prone to needing a clear lane to do his best work.
Top 3 + Roughie ($8.50 pool)
1. Mega Captain (No.2) — $2.70 / $1.10 🏆 4TH
Bet $8.50 Win — ✗ Lost, net -$8.50
Prob 14.9% | Place: 44.7% | Value: 0.46x
Why This is the sort of race where a well-measured run can win early, and Purton should get him in the right spot.
2. Armour War Eagle (No.6) — $9.60 / $3.10 🏆 WINNER
Bet Tracked
Prob 13.7% | Place: 32.2% | Value: 1.50x
Why A real chance — but at $3.10 the place the numbers don't give me enough edge to insure with. Watching, not betting.
3. Giant Leap (No.8) — $12.00 / $3.40 🏆 2ND
Bet Tracked
Prob 11.2% | Place: 33.6% | Value: 1.70x
Why He's one of those "count me in" runners, especially if cover comes cheaply.
Roughie: Grouper (No.9) — $11.00 / $3.20 🏆 12TH
Bet Tracked
Prob 11.4% | Place: 34.9% | Value: 1.50x
Why He'll be in the pocket, and if traffic opens late, he's got the kind of finish that grabs a cheque.
Race type: Class 4, 1200m
Map & tempo: Moderate Pace, Stanley Express is pace-disadvantaged, Gallant Design and Enjoy Golf are the key
Punty read: This is the race where you want the one that looks like he can actually do the job, Gallant Design. He's midfield but the way the map factors it, he's not going to be stuck too deep, which matters heaps at 1200. Enjoy Golf is the value for place and Noble Superior is a sneaky alternative if the race breaks right. Stanley Express is the roughie that can pop into the trifecta if he gets a cleaner run through the middle.
Top 3 + Roughie ($10.50 pool)
1. Gallant Design (No.2) — $4.80 / $1.90 🏆 UNPLACED
Bet $10.50 Win — ✗ Lost, net -$10.50
Prob 26.7% | Place: 62.5% | Value: 1.52x
Why The best "can win without needing a miracle" type on the card, he's got the strongest blend of map fit and race shape.
2. Enjoy Golf (No.10) — $7.10 / $2.70 🏆 11TH
Bet Tracked
Prob 14.4% | Place: 37.0% | Value: 1.29x
Why A real chance — but at $2.70 the place the numbers don't give me enough edge to insure with. Watching, not betting.
3. Noble Superior (No.7) — $5.20 / $2.00 🏆 UNPLACED
Bet Tracked
Prob 10.4% | Place: 35.2% | Value: 0.68x
Why He's in that "place is the game" zone, and with this tempo he can grab a top-three finish.
Roughie: Stanley Express (No.1) — $24.00 / $3.20 🏆 7TH
Bet Tracked
Prob 6.9% | Place: 23.3% | Value: 0.90x
Why If the midfield scrambles and the speed map gives him a soft landing, he's got the gear to run on.
Race type: Class 4, 1400m
Map & tempo: Genuine Pace, Absolute Awakened is pace-advantaged
Punty read: 1400 at Sha Tin on a genuine tempo is where you can get that "I thought he was too far back" heartbreak. Storm Mirror has the right kind of "I can be in the fight without dying" profile. Absolute Awakened is the classic mid-race grinder type and can absolutely win if the leaders don't overdo it early. Tin Fook is the rough price if the pace doesn't chew the whole field into hamburger.
Top 3 + Roughie ($15.00 pool)
1. Storm Mirror (No.5) — $9.70 / $1.90 🏆 WINNER
Bet $15.00 Each Way ($7.50W + $7.50P) — ✓ Won, net +$72.00
Prob 17.0% | Place: 45.6% | Value: 1.90x
Why He's got that sweet spot where he can find space and keep grinding, and 1400 gives him time to do it properly.
2. Absolute Awakened (No.3) — $3.20 / $2.80 🏆 4TH
Bet Tracked
Prob 16.3% | Place: 48.2% | Value: 0.66x
Why The top pick's each-way already covers the place angle here — doubling up is paying twice for the same insurance. Tracked instead.
3. Tin Fook (No.10) — $8.50 / $2.90 🏆 2ND
Bet Tracked
Prob 12.1% | Place: 44.7% | Value: 1.26x
Why He's got enough early presence to be in the right lane, and if things open up he can be dangerous late.
Roughie: Lunar Dash (No.2) — $29.00 / $5.50 🏆 9TH
Bet Tracked
Prob 8.0% | Place: 29.8% | Value: 3.04x
Why Massive price, but if the speed creates chaos and the backmarkers start collecting, he's the sort of roughie that can slam in.
Race type: Class 4, 1600m
Map & tempo: Genuine Pace, Mega Mastermind is a leader influence but it's a true run
Punty read: 1600m is where you stop guessing and start picking runners who can actually handle the full story. Jolly Brilliant is map BACKMARKER but he's got place ability written all over him, and with a genuine pace he should get a chance to be finishing off strongly, not simply running for the photo. Gorgeous Victory at 3.40 is tempting but I'm using her as a "value chaos" option. Bling Bling Genius is the big price that can fly if the race becomes a pattern they can exploit.
Top 3 + Roughie ($13.00 pool)
1. Jolly Brilliant (No.1) — $5.40 / $2.70 🏆 WINNER
Bet $13.00 Each Way ($6.50W + $6.50P) — ✓ Won, net +$39.65
Prob 17.1% | Place: 53.5% | Value: 1.07x
Why If the pace is genuine, a backmarker with cover can turn it into a place machine, and today looks like it'll run fair.
2. Gorgeous Victory (No.11) — $3.80 / $1.60 🏆 3RD
Bet Tracked
Prob 13.4% | Place: 51.7% | Value: 0.56x
Why The top pick's each-way already covers the place angle here — doubling up is paying twice for the same insurance. Tracked instead.
3. Bling Bling Genius (No.9) — $17.00 / $4.20 🏆 4TH
Bet Tracked
Prob 12.4% | Place: 38.9% | Value: 2.25x
Why Big value plays like this are built for the day the race opens up late and he finds a lane.
Roughie: Master Trillion (No.3) — $10.00 / $3.30 🏆 9TH
Bet Tracked
Prob 9.3% | Place: 34.3% | Value: 1.14x
Why He can position midstream and if the tempo holds, he's one that can nick a top-three spot.
Race type: Class 3, 1200m
Map & tempo: Hot Pace, Elite Golf and Megastar Heart likely to be prominent
Punty read: Hot pace 1200 is where you can get a weird result, the leaders set it up and then get nailed by the one that's been quietly travelling. Happy Index is the key, he's ON-PACE and he looks like he can keep running. Elite Golf gives you a different angle, LEADER profile, and Swift Ascend is your "if they soften late, he's the one" runner. Galactic Voyage has that backmarker structure, and if it truly goes hard early, it's the sort of race where a backmarker can still hit the top three.
Top 3 + Roughie ($10.50 pool)
1. Happy Index (No.3) — $4.30 / $1.80 🏆 3RD
Bet $10.50 Win — ✗ Lost, net -$10.50
Prob 17.5% | Place: 50.0% | Value: 0.93x
Why He's the most likely to stay in the right rhythm, and at 1200 that means everything.
2. Elite Golf (No.6) — $11.00 / $3.30 🏆 9TH
Bet Tracked
Prob 12.2% | Place: 35.7% | Value: 1.46x
Why A real chance — but at $3.30 the place the numbers don't give me enough edge to insure with. Watching, not betting.
3. Swift Ascend (No.1) — $11.00 / $2.40 🏆 2ND
Bet Tracked
Prob 11.2% | Place: 33.0% | Value: 1.24x
Why Backmarkers can win on hot tempo 1200 if the leaders sprint themselves into trouble, and he's built for that.
Roughie: Galactic Voyage (No.2) — $10.00 / $3.20 🏆 5TH
Bet Tracked
Prob 7.0% | Place: 23.0% | Value: 0.88x
Why If the run turns into a sprint-chase, this backmarker can sneak into the finish with the right run through.
Race type: Class 3, 1400m
Map & tempo: Genuine Pace, Do Your Part is the leader influence
Punty read: This is a race where you've got leaders around and it can get messy. Titan Pegasus has the class angle and he's in the midfield, but he needs the tempo to keep giving him cover and space. Do Your Part is the one setting the tempo and can be hard to run down if he gets it right. Fit For Beauty is the up-close type and Everyone's Star is the big outsider that can hit if the race collapses late into a sprint.
Top 3 + Roughie ($13.00 pool)
1. Titan Pegasus (No.2) — $4.40 / $1.90 🏆 5TH
Bet $13.00 Win — ✗ Lost, net -$13.00
Prob 15.1% | Place: 42.2% | Value: 0.82x
Why He's got the profile to be in the fight early enough, and at 1400 you want that kind of control.
2. Do Your Part (No.10) — $5.80 / $1.90 🏆 7TH
Bet Tracked
Prob 13.3% | Place: 38.7% | Value: 0.96x
Why A real chance — but at $1.90 the place the numbers don't give me enough edge to insure with. Watching, not betting.
3. Fit For Beauty (No.3) — $9.80 / $3.20 🏆 9TH
Bet Tracked
Prob 11.3% | Place: 38.7% | Value: 1.29x
Why He's a clean "position and pounce" type, and a Genuine Pace race usually rewards that style.
Roughie: Everyone's Star (No.4) — $20.00 / $4.20 🏆 4TH
Bet Tracked
Prob 10.3% | Place: 36.8% | Value: 3.37x
Why Big price roughie only, but if the race shape breaks and the field opens, he can still sweep a slice.
Race type: Class 2, 1200m
Map & tempo: Hot Pace, Rising Force and Turquoise Velocity are leading influences
Punty read: Class 2 on a hot tempo at 1200 is ruthless. The front runners don't get a free pass, but they also don't get bullied easily. Rising Force looks the most natural fit, and Turquoise Velocity gives you a direct speed threat. Blazing Wind is the value wild card, because if the pace gets uneven, he can go past horses that look like they were in front a moment ago. Jumbo Treasure is the other one who can be dangerous if the track ride goes his way.
Top 3 + Roughie ($15.00 pool)
1. Rising Force (No.2) — $9.20 / $1.90 🏆 3RD
Bet $15.00 Each Way ($7.50W + $7.50P) — Cashed, net -$0.75
Prob 17.2% | Place: 46.7% | Value: 1.57x
Why He's got the pace presence, and the way Class 2 runs at Sha Tin, the one who's in the rhythm wins more often than the one chasing last.
2. Jumbo Treasure (No.11) — $3.30 / $1.55 🏆 4TH
Bet Tracked
Prob 15.5% | Place: 43.9% | Value: 0.64x
Why The top pick's each-way already covers the place angle here — doubling up is paying twice for the same insurance. Tracked instead.
3. Turquoise Velocity (No.6) — $4.40 / $2.30 🏆 2ND
Bet Tracked
Prob 14.8% | Place: 47.9% | Value: 0.79x
Why He should be right there early, but the value isn't screaming at this price, so I keep him for the exotics brain.
Roughie: Blazing Wind (No.9) — $15.00 / $3.60 🏆 11TH
Bet Tracked
Prob 10.3% | Place: 32.9% | Value: 1.82x
Why This is a classic roughie path, if the pace war creates a gap late, he can charge through and steal the numbers.
That's the ticket as I struck it — the legs below are exactly what ran, no rewriting history.
Smart: 1,11,9,3 / 3,6,1,2 / 2,10,3,4 / 6,2,11,9 (256 combos x $0.31 = $80.00) -- 31% flexi
The day's multi leans on three win legs across the card.
1 - Jolly Companion (Race 1, No.4)✗ — $6.00
2 - Bustling City (Race 4, No.2)✗ — $1.40
3 - Gallant Design (Race 6, No.2) — $4.50

Punty's Early Mail
Rightio Loose Units, Sha Tin on a GOOD track with the C rail getting a bit of cheek, it's the kind of day where the pace is king, and the wrong horse can get jumped like it owes money. I've built a spine with three thoroughbreds that look like they're built for the map, then sprinkled in the sort of roughies that make you say "fuck yeah" or "fuck me" in the span of about 2km.
This card's got that Chaos vibe in the middle races, Race 4 and Race 6 especially, where the "safe" favourite can cop a tacky upset if the leaders start flossing. Meanwhile, the late lanes, Races 8-11, are straight-up quaddie fuel, because 1600 to 1400 at Sha Tin is where one perfect run-through turns into a massive lottery ticket.
MEET SNAPSHOT
Track: Sha Tin, 1200m-1600m card
Rail: C Course (Soil 10.5%)
Official going: Good (expected to play Genuine pace types, best positioning, clean trips)
Weather: Fine, 24.3°C, wind 3km/h N (watch for nothing dramatic, it'll just be about who gets a run)
Early lane guess: Pace holds on, but you still want a horse that can box-seat, not a statue
Tempo profile: Most races have a genuine speed presence, so midfield can win if it's not trapped
Jockeys to follow:
Zac Purton: High-impact on the Good track, and he's steering a few ones that can control the race shape
Jerry Chau: Tough rider, good at navigating traffic, and he's got solid chances where holding a spot matters
Luke Ferraris: When he gets a horse that's meant to be there, he makes the run look easy
Stables to respect:
P F Yiu (10 runners): Loads of runners, so you'll get chances for runs that get into the right part of the track
C Fownes (9 runners): Always seems to have a horse live on these grades, and today the pace map helps them
C H Yip (8 runners): Their stuff tends to race with intent, if the race shape lands, they'll be in the finish
Punty's take:
Alright legends, Sha Tin today is basically "speed vs placement", and the rail in C isn't doing anyone favours. When the map says LEADER or ON-PACE, it's not a suggestion, it's a job description. You can't just throw darts, you've got to pick the horses that can either put themselves in the race early, or sit close enough to hit the gap as it opens.
Race 1 is an open chaos handicap where the market will try to steer you into the obvious lane. I'm taking the horse that's most likely to get the right run without needing luck to find it. Then Race 4 gets spicy, Class 3, hot tempo, and you're getting a proper "who's got the turn of foot" showdown. Bustling City looks like the engine, but Kempes and Together We Value are the ones who can steamroll them if the pace gets cooking.
Races 8-11, mate, that's where your quaddie dreams get sharpened. 1600 into 1200 and then 1400, those are distance swings that punish the horses that land too far back. I want runners that can either sit in the pocket or find cover, then unleash at the right time. That's how you hit something decent, not just float around hoping.
What it means for you:
Be aggressive early with Race 1 and Race 6, because those are where the map and the trainer intent line up with the price. The big idea is to back horses that are close to the speed, or at least close enough to pick up momentum when others are still warming up.
Races 4, 7, and 10 are your "protect the ticket" races. If you go too narrow, you'll get stung. If you go too wide, you'll end up donating your wallet to the track ATM. So I'm giving you a balanced lane plan: one tight spine for your money, then lanes for the quaddie style coverage.
Now let's get into it, race by race, with the Top 3 and the sneaky roughies that can turn a normal day into a legend day.
