For all of Punty's tips for Gundagai, head to https://punty.ai/tips/gundagai-2026-06-27

Rightio Loose Units, Gundagai's serving up a Heavy 10 with the rail true, and that means a proper old-school mud wrestle - the kind where the fence can be gold early, then starts chewing like a lawnmower in a paddock after lunch.

MEET SNAPSHOT

Track: Gundagai, 1000m to 1700m card
Rail: True
Official going: Heavy 10 (expected to play a touch leader-friendly early, then get progressively more honest as the day wears on)
Weather: Mostly sunny, 4°C, humidity 85%, wind 11km/h ESE (watch for icy mornings and a track that can tighten up quickly before the chop arrives)
Early lane guess: True rail should be fine early, but the best footing may drift off the fence once a few races have chewed it up
Tempo profile: A mixed bag - a couple of honest burn-ups, a few crawl-and-sprint grinders, and one or two tactical maulings where map position is everything
Jockeys to follow:
Pierre Boudvillain — keeps landing in the right spot on the map and knows how to nurse one through the muck
Quayde Krogh — tactical rider, and on a day like this you want a bloke who doesn't panic when it turns into trench warfare
Damon Budler — solid in the wet, especially when the race becomes a patience test rather than a drag race
Stables to respect:
J Rolfe (7 runners) — plenty of live darts across the card, including a few with gear tweaks and market interest
Shilleagh Meyervale (4 runners) — the market has been sniffing around this yard and for good reason
Michael Travers (4 runners) — a couple of runners with the right setups if the track gets messy and honest

Punty's take: This is not a day to act like a hero and start firing at every roughie in sight like you’re at Crown after three schooners. Heavy 10s at Gundagai are the great equaliser - they bring the good horses back to the pack, but they also expose the pretenders who hate getting their toes dirty. The sprints have enough speed to sort the men from the boys, while the middle-distance stuff is more about who can hold position and keep finding under pressure.

The market already has a sniff of the right ones in a few races - Cascata Spritz, Tea Or Coffee, Simone's Choice and Dubai Fountain all have got some love - but the real story is the gear changes and the map. If a horse can land handy, handle the slop, and take a run when it appears, it’s got a proper live chance today. If it wants a soft track and a picnic, it’s going to be stone motherless.

What it means for you: Be selective and be a bit ruthless. This is a day where the place punting mindset makes a lot of sense, because a lot of these races are going to be won by the horse that simply handles the conditions and gets the cleaner run. You want to lean into the banker-type maps in Races 1, 4 and 5, then treat Race 6 like a chaotic pub brawl where you need coverage rather than bravado.

The value is sitting in the right horses, not the fanciest story. If the market keeps hammering the right types and the map agrees, get on. If a horse is drifting and the form doesn’t scream, let it go and save the ammo. Gundagai on a Heavy 10 is no place for mug punting - it’s a day for clean logic, a bit of wet-track nous, and not getting seduced by every smoky that winks at you from the fence line.

PUNTY'S BIG 3 + MULTI

1 - No.5 Cascata Spritz (Race 1, No.5) — $1.91
Why The one they all have to beat. Maps sweetly, gets the right run in a race that looks genuine enough early, and the market has already done the hard yards for us.
2 - No.6 Tea Or Coffee (Race 4, No.6) — $6.75
Why Fits the Heavy 10 map beautifully, can camp handy, and looks the sort of hard-nosed runner that keeps gritting away when others start paddling.
3 - No.9 Simone's Choice (Race 5, No.9) — $7.20
Why The one with the nice blend of form, map and market push - if it gets the run it deserves, it can absolutely pin its ears back and finish the job.
Multi (all three to win): $10 x ~92.83 = ~$928.30 collect

Race 1 - Maiden mudslide

Race type: Maiden Plate, 1180m
Map & tempo: Genuine speed with Western Lights likely kicking up the road; that should make it a proper test for the leaders and give the right midfield horse the last crack
Punty read: This is a straight-up speed-vs-stamina ding-dong. Cascata Spritz is the horse the market has latched onto and it makes sense - the stable's got support, the map is manageable, and this isn't a race where you want to be too cute. Larkin is the honest old bugger in the midfield who keeps landing in the money without quite sticking the knife in. Thesandmancan has had excuses and the money's been sneaking around it, while Blackbird is the roughie with a bit of pinch-me support but still has a few questions to answer.

Top 3 + Roughie ($15.00 pool)

1. Cascata Spritz (No.5) — $1.91 / $1.25
Bet $15.00 Win, return $28.65
Prob 31.6% | Place: 58.7% | Value: 1.12x
Why The one they all have to find. Has the map edge, the stable support, and looks the cleanest fit for a genuine tempo on a track that will reward toughness.
2. Larkin (No.2) — $3.55 / $1.60
Bet $5.00 Place, return $8.00
Prob 21.6% | Place: 63.7% | Value: 0.77x
Why Honest as day and maps to get a soft enough run, but this is a win-only sort of assignment in a thin field - he'll be thereabouts without necessarily being the man.
3. Thesandmancan (No.3) — $9.40 / $3.40
Bet Tracked
Prob 13.6% | Place: 33.9% | Value: 1.62x
Why Forgive the recent runs and you can squint a winner's path - the market's had a nibble and if the speed gets hotter than expected, he can be the one who keeps finishing.
Roughie: Blackbird (No.4) — $9.40 / $3.50
Bet Tracked
Prob 11.4% | Place: 43.3% | Value: 0.91x
Why The roughie with a bit of on-pace muscle, but the price isn't a gift and the stable setup is still asking a fair few questions.

Race 2 - Slow-burn grinder

Race type: Benchmark 50, 1700m
Map & tempo: Slow tempo and a likely tactical crawl - the sort of race where everyone wants to be last on the fence until the sprint turns into a deadset mess
Punty read: This one’s a patience test. Evokes will be hoping the class edge and track record carry the day, but the map says it could get ugly if the pace stays sleepy. Bomerton has had a squeeze out in the market and the drift says the ring isn’t exactly buying the fairy tale. Tillman is the sort of horse that can look dangerous if the race turns into a sit-and-sprint, while Mayfair Hotel is the sneaky one the market likes and the run map suits better than it first looks.

Top 3 + Roughie ($8.50 pool)

1. Evokes (No.1) — $4.70 / $1.80
Bet $8.50 Each Way ($4.25W + $4.25P), return $19.98 (wins) / $7.65 (places)
Prob 13.5% | Place: 28.4% | Value: 0.81x
Why Has the right enough profile for the journey and knows the track, but this is more a solid each-way anchor than a bolt-in banker.
2. Bomerton (No.2) — $7.20 / $2.30
Bet Tracked
Prob 13.5% | Place: 28.4% | Value: 1.23x
Why The drift is a concern, but the map can still hand it a shot if the tempo stays sleepy and the better horses spend too long biding their time.
3. Tillman (No.5) — $5.10 / $1.95
Bet Tracked
Prob 13.5% | Place: 28.9% | Value: 0.87x
Why Can get into the race late, but the tempo has to be just right and the market hasn't exactly fallen over itself to nail it on the nose.
Roughie: Kockibitoo (No.7) — $28.00 / $5.50
Bet Tracked
Prob 3.3% | Place: 28.4% | Value: 1.17x
Why Absolute roughie territory - if the race melts into a brawl and the soft map turns weird, it can clatter into the frame, but that's a very narrow path to glory.

Race 3 - Sprint blender

Race type: Maiden Handicap, 1000m
Map & tempo: Genuine speed with Eighteen Months likely rolling along; this is a proper pressure race where one bad jump can ruin your afternoon
Punty read: Now we’re cooking. This is the kind of Heavy 10 sprint where the race can be gone in a heartbeat if you don't jump clean. Her Name Is Lola is the one the market has pegged as the obvious play, but the gear changes on Eighteen Months scream that the stable is trying to get the old engine firing again. Aquilino is the honest type who keeps showing up, and Yes Red/Fervi are the wildcards with some market love and fresh tricks in the locker. Reds Express is the roughie, but the drift says the market has seen enough.

Top 3 + Roughie ($18.00 pool)

1. Her Name Is Lola (No.10) — $4.30 / $1.80
Bet $13.50 Each Way ($6.75W + $6.75P), return $29.02 (wins) / $12.15 (places)
Prob 16.5% | Place: 58.7% | Value: 0.93x
Why Drawn to do no work and gets every chance if the pace is honest. The market's made it favourite for a reason - it's got the shape of a proper contender.
2. Eighteen Months (No.3) — $5.10 / $2.00
Bet Tracked
Prob 16.0% | Place: 65.5% | Value: 0.67x
Why The gear shuffle is interesting and the excuses have been there - if the stable has fixed the little issues, it can absolutely lift and go close.
3. Aquilino (No.5) — $5.60 / $2.10
Bet $4.50 Place, return $9.45
Prob 14.6% | Place: 60.0% | Value: 0.80x
Why The reliable grinder. Not a flashy bloke, but he's the sort who keeps finding and can nick a cheque when others start over-cooking it on the speed.
Roughie: Reds Express (No.11) — $17.25 / $4.60
Bet Tracked
Prob 4.9% | Place: 43.3% | Value: 0.68x
Why The rough path is obvious - if the leaders turn the 1000m into a demolition derby and the fence gets chopped up, it can clatter into the frame late.

Race 4 - Heavy-10 zip line

Race type: Benchmark 50, 1000m
Map & tempo: Moderate tempo with Densetsu and King Lesong the likely pace pushers; the key is who gets the clean first crack when the pressure comes on
Punty read: This is a sneaky little speed race dressed up in a winter coat. Anthracia is the best horse in the room on paper and the one the model wants on top, but Tea Or Coffee is the value anchor - good map, handy position, and the sort of horse that can keep poking its nose into the fight. Dita Von is the sneaky one from a kinder gate, while Insane Volt is the rougher on-speed player if the track keeps playing fair. I Am Mamwaazel and Bold Tee are the kind of runners that can get you thinking about a saver and then remind you why savers exist.

Top 3 + Roughie ($16.00 pool)

1. Anthracia (No.3) — $3.25 / $1.37
Bet $9.50 Each Way ($4.75W + $4.75P), return $15.44 (wins) / $6.51 (places)
Prob 22.4% | Place: 66.7% | Value: 0.94x
Why The class act in the sprint and the one with enough map and wet-track know-how to make the others work bloody hard.
2. Densetsu (No.2) — $5.10 / $1.85
Bet Tracked
Prob 14.1% | Place: 60.0% | Value: 0.94x
Why Stays in the game through the run and can be right there if the speed battle gets messy, but the staking plan is already leaning elsewhere.
3. Tea Or Coffee (No.6) — $6.75 / $2.25
Bet $6.50 Place, return $14.62
Prob 14.1% | Place: 58.7% | Value: 1.24x
Why The value horse. Maps well, handles the grind, and if the leaders start coughing in the slop it’ll be there to pick up the crumbs.
Roughie: Insane Volt (No.5) — $9.40 / $2.90
Bet Tracked
Prob 9.3% | Place: 66.7% | Value: 1.13x
Why Can lob up near the speed and make life interesting, but it needs the race to unfold just right to shove its way into the finish.

Race 5 - Class 1 scrap

Race type: Class 1, 1100m
Map & tempo: Moderate speed with Simone's Choice and My Inspiration expected to make life interesting; if Kathleen's Prayer jumps clean, this turns into a proper tactical puzzle
Punty read: This is a very Punty race - the market has piled into Bifurcation, but the real cheek might sit a touch wider. Kathleen's Prayer is the unknown quantity, but the way it's set up says the yard thinks it can run a race straight away. Simone's Choice is the one that screams value to me: good map, market action, and enough form to make the bookies sweat. My Inspiration is the smoky with the gear change, and that sort of thing can either look genius or leave you washing the car with your tears.

Top 3 + Roughie ($16.00 pool)

1. Bifurcation (No.2) — $3.35 / $1.37
Bet $9.50 Each Way ($4.75W + $4.75P), return $15.91 (wins) / $6.51 (places)
Prob 16.5% | Place: 65.5% | Value: 0.72x
Why The market has shoved it in and it maps well enough to be a major player, but this is more about being the solid launchpad than the sexy value play.
2. Kathleen's Prayer (No.6) — $6.20 / $2.10
Bet Tracked
Prob 16.0% | Place: 95.0% | Value: 1.28x
Why The place profile is enormous and the heavy track debut profile says the stable knows how to have one ready, but the staking plan says sit tight and let the other one do the lifting.
3. Simone's Choice (No.9) — $7.20 / $2.25
Bet $6.50 Place, return $14.62
Prob 16.0% | Place: 63.7% | Value: 1.49x
Why This is the one I want in my pocket. The map is kind, the market has woken up to it, and on a day like this that combination is worth its weight in schooners.
Roughie: My Inspiration (No.10) — $11.50 / $3.40
Bet Tracked
Prob 9.4% | Place: 43.3% | Value: 1.40x
Why The gear changes give it a sneaky little chance if the stable has sharpened the knives, but it's a roughie only if the race turns into a rough-and-tumble and the map goes sideways.

Race 6 - Chaos finale

Race type: Benchmark 50, 1400m
Map & tempo: Moderate speed, but with a heap of horses wanting a piece of the action; that usually means a muddling run where the clean trip is worth a fortune
Punty read: Last race, biggest headache. Dubai Fountain heads the market spine and gets the right enough run if it can sit handy and stay balanced. Sunday is the one the model likes as the danger, but the trainer form says don't get too carried away with the romance. Fleet Destination is a lovely place play if the race gets stretched out and the leaders overdo it, while Sundrop is the bomb on a drift - not the sort of horse you blindly marry, but if the inside gets chewed up and the race turns ugly, it can absolutely punch a hole in the finish.

Top 3 + Roughie ($18.00 pool)

1. Dubai Fountain (No.7) — $5.25 / $1.95
Bet $12.00 Each Way ($6.00W + $6.00P), return $31.50 (wins) / $11.70 (places)
Prob 14.5% | Place: 43.3% | Value: 1.09x
Why The tidy map horse in a messy race. If it lands where it wants to, it can soak up the pressure and get first crack at the finish.
2. Sunday (No.2) — $6.70 / $2.25
Bet Tracked
Prob 11.8% | Place: 39.9% | Value: 1.14x
Why Capable of being right there if the race turns tactical, but the trainer numbers aren't screaming, so it stays in the frame without getting the chequebook treatment.
3. Fleet Destination (No.13) — $8.45 / $2.90
Bet $6.00 Place, return $17.40
Prob 9.5% | Place: 28.4% | Value: 1.15x
Why The place horse in the chaos leg. If they go too hard and the track starts to punish the leaders, this one can come over the top and make the frame.
Roughie: Sundrop (No.4) — $9.35 / $3.10
Bet Tracked
Prob 9.4% | Place: 43.3% | Value: 1.26x
Why The roughie with a real path if the race falls apart and the drift is just market noise. If not, it’s a brave man’s lunch order.

SEQUENCE LANES — SINGLE OPTIMISED TICKET

QUADDIE (R3-R6)

Smart: 10,3,5,6 / 3,2,6,5 / 6,2,9,10 / 7,2,4,3 (256 combos x $0.25 = $65.00) -- 25% flexi
Three open legs and one proper trio make this a full-contact quaddie, not a soft little cuddle. Worth a play if you want a crack, but it’s definitely more entertainment than comfort food.

NUGGETS FROM THE TRACK

1 - Shilleagh Meyervale is the yard to watch
The stable has multiple runners with market heat and live maps, especially Cascata Spritz, Blackbird and Western Lights. When this mob gets support on a Heavy 10, don’t be the bloke trying to prove how clever he is by fighting it.

2 - The sprint races are about clean beginnings, not fairy tales
Gundagai's 1000m and 1180m races are the kind where one slow start or one bad line can kill you. That’s why the horses with early positioning, gear tweaks and market confidence are the ones to respect - the wet track punishes passengers.

3 - Ripping Missile's drift is a proper eyebrow-raiser
When a horse blows out like that in Race 6, the ring is usually telling you something. On a day like this, a big drift is often code for "something's not quite right", and you don't need to be a detective to treat it with caution.

THE DEGEN DEN

This card's a mud-soaked pub scrap with a few clean bankers hiding in the smoke. Stick to the spine, keep your nerve in the chaos legs, and don't go chasing every drifter like you're auditioning for The Wolf of Wall Street. Gamble Responsibly.
