PUNTY EARLY MAIL, Hawera (2026-11-04)
For all of Punty's tips for Hawera, head to https://punty.ai/tips/hawera-2026-11-04

Rightio Degenerates, Hawera is sitting on a Soft 5 with eight races and 79 runners, so the form book has to work overtime today. Half the card wants to go slow, a few horses want to lead, and the rest of us just want to find the one who gets home. Grab a coffee, the stables are lining up.

MEET SNAPSHOT

Track: Hawera, 1200m to 2100m card
Rail: True
Official going: Soft 5
Weather: Cloudy
Early lane guess: unknown pre-race, watch the first two
Tempo profile: Mostly slow to moderate on the card. R3, R5 and R8 are genuine pace with a clear leader in each, and R1 and R2 have nobody mapping to lead.
Jockeys to follow:
Bruno Queiroz: Seven rides on the card, including Legacy in R1, Valentino in R3, Dashing in R6 and Luckytobehere in R8. He's the most-used rider on the day, so watch where he sends his books.
Masahiro Hashizume: Six rides, with Almighty Kick in R3 and Vittorio Veneto in R7 among them. Celtic Echo in R1 is his strongest chance on paper.
Craig Grylls: Five rides, with Passiflora in R7 the standout and Miss Canto in R2 right behind it on the card.
Stables to respect:
Ms L Latta (7 runners): Sir Mikki and Identikit in R1, Miss Canto and Crime Of Passion in R2, Dark Deluxe in R4, Roco Kate in R5 and Sax Appeal in R6. Seven starters is a serious team, and the data doesn't have them as a one-horse show.
G A & D G Rogerson & Clint Isdale (5 runners): Rockocoko in R2, Andarna in R3, Tuscan Grace in R5, Bella Fino in R6 and Luckytobehere in R8. Five runners across the card, spread out enough to keep you honest.
Kevin & Stephen Gray (5 runners): Valentino and Andarna in R3, Cover Story in R3, Sovereign Belt in R5 and Exaggeration in R7. The Grays have a bit of everything, so check each one carefully.

Punty's take: Hawera gives you a card with some real shape to it. The speed is the story in the middle of the day, because R3 has Valentino as the only true leader from barrier 7 and R8 has Highly Lethal sitting alone out front from barrier 10. R5 has Boudicia's Revenge in the same boat, pressured by Bivabelle and Bobbin Lady from the inside. Early on, R1 is the banker-looking race with Atavus at the head of the market, and R2 is a maiden that doesn't have a single runner mapping to lead, which means the sit and the trail will decide it. R6 has Queen Of France and Lord Gusto in the top two of my numbers, and that's where you'll see some value. R7 is the chaos race, with six runners all sitting in the same ON-PACE group, so the front-runners will be fighting each other for the first 800m. Nobody needs a degree to see that. Read the first two horses home in each race because the lane is unknown and that is worth more than any gut feel I can give you.

What it means for you: The early races are where you slow down and let the market sort itself out. R1 is the biggest single bet of the day on Atavus, and I'm happy to back him at $2.22 because the other runners in that field have less ability on the form. R4 and R5 are where I'm chasing a bit more of a return, with Luminance and Russian Prime carrying the staking. Keep the Each Way on Luminance and the win on Russian Prime, and don't overthink the place bets that aren't in the lineup. R8 is the race that pays the bills if the pace collapses, and Maryrose plus Da Ace are the bets I'd like you to focus on. Protect your bank in the chaos races and let the favourites do the talking in the bankers.

Race 1 – On Track (Bm75)

Race type: Benchmark 75, 2100m
Map & tempo: Slow pace on paper, with nobody mapping to lead and Sir Mikki the likeliest to find the front from barrier 2. Atavus settles midfield from barrier 1, which gives him the chance to sit in the pack and pick his way through. Brave Rebel from barrier 6 and Legacy from barrier 5 are the back-half runners who need cover or luck.
Punty read: Atavus is my number one, and he's the bet on the card for this race. He's a 2-2-1 horse from eight starts, goes 1-2-1 on soft, and his sectionals are the fastest on the line. The market has him at $2.22, which is short, but he's the one who wins from the sit in this shape. Celtic Echo has the form to be a threat, with 3 wins from 26 starts and a strong soft record, but the price isn't making me jump. Legacy has the best sectionals support behind Atavus, so he's the one to watch if the slow pace helps the closers. Brave Rebel is my roughie, at a price that makes him worth a look if the leaders get caught.

Top 3 + Roughie ($15.00 pool)

1. Atavus (No.1) — $2.22 / place tote
Bet $15.00 Win, return $33.30
Prob 53.6% | Place: 61.4% | Value: 1.19x
Why Most consistent horse in the race, with the fastest sectionals on the line and a soft record that says he goes well here. He sits midfield from barrier 1 and that gives him every chance to find a run.
2. Celtic Echo (No.5) — $11.00 / place tote
Bet Tracked
Prob 15.2% | Place: 46.1% | Value: 1.67x
Why Only two places paid in a field this size, and skinny place divvies make savers a mug's game — this is a win-only race. Tracked, not staked.
3. Legacy (No.6) — $6.21 / place tote
Bet Tracked
Prob 14.2% | Place: 33.1% | Value: 0.88x
Why Time rank 2 on the sectionals line and Queiroz is a strong rider on this track. The trip could suit a horse coming from midfield.

Roughie: Brave Rebel (No.4) — $11.49 / place tote
Bet Tracked
Prob 6.9% | Place: 20.8% | Value: 0.79x
Why From barrier 6 he has to cross, but if the slow pace hands the race to the closers and the leaders stall, he's the one who can get into the finish. Soft 9:1-2-0 gives him a real case on this going.

Race 2 – Green Thumb Gardeners Mdn

Race type: Maiden, 1200m
Map & tempo: Slow pace, nobody maps to lead, and Noverre Belle and Miss Canto are the likeliest to find the front from barriers 4 and 6. Noverre Belle settles handy from barrier 4, which puts her in the right spot to pounce if the pace drops off. Crime Of Passion sits midfield from barrier 3 and needs the speed to be held up.
Punty read: Noverre Belle is the one I'm putting money on, and the reason is simple. She sits handy from barrier 4 in a race where the front is shared out and nobody is dragging the pace along. She's a 0-1-0 maiden from one start on soft, so she has a placing already. Miss Canto is the danger, with a fastest-sectionals line from barrier 6 and the leaders' pace suiting her. Crime Of Passion has been placed in her only start, so she's worth a close look at her price. Me Gustas Tu is the roughie with the back-marker tag, and in a slow race he needs the leaders to fall over, so keep expectations in check.

Top 3 + Roughie ($20.00 pool)

1. Noverre Belle (No.4) — $2.54 / place tote
Bet $15.00 Win, return $38.10
Prob 35.0% | Place: 61.5% | Value: 0.89x
Why Sits handy from barrier 4 and is trained by C W Cole, who has three runners on the card. She's already placed on soft and has the right draw to get a run.
2. Miss Canto (No.8) — $19.00 / place tote
Bet $5.00 Place, pays the tote place dividend
Prob 22.1% | Place: 53.6% | Value: 4.20x
Why Sectionals time fastest on the card line and Craig Grylls rides. She's the one who can run down a slow pace if the front-runners don't quicken.
3. Crime Of Passion (No.5) — $10.00 / place tote
Bet Tracked
Prob 17.6% | Place: 46.1% | Value: 1.76x
Why Placed in her only start and Chris Dell rides. Midfield from barrier 3 gives her a sit behind the leaders.

Roughie: Me Gustas Tu (No.7) — $23.00 / place tote
Bet Tracked
Prob 9.3% | Place: 33.0% | Value: 2.14x
Why The back-marker path is narrow in a slow race, but if the pair up front cook each other the closer from barrier 2 can come late.

Race 3 – Super Liquor Mdn

Race type: Maiden, 1200m
Map & tempo: Genuine pace with Valentino the only leader from barrier 7, and nearest pressure coming from Poise from barrier 10 and Merrylees from barrier 9. Those two wide runners have to work to cross, which hands Valentino a free run on the front. Almighty Kick settles midfield from barrier 4, and that means she's inside the pressure once the leader gets going.
Punty read: Almighty Kick is the staked horse here, and I'm backing her to get into the finish from the midfield. She's winless from 15 starts, which is the honest bit you need to know, but her sectionals line is the best on the card in that race and Hashizume's jockey rating is hot right now. Poise is the next runner I like with a good sit behind a genuine pace. Overtaking is the one who can close, though her trainer's record here isn't flattering. Merrylees at $37.04 is the outsider the wide draw helps. Going Public is a dual acceptor who's booked in another race, so check his jockey before you chase him.

Top 3 + Roughie ($15.00 pool)

1. Almighty Kick (No.1) — $3.30 / place tote
Bet $15.00 Win, return $49.50
Prob 33.1% | Place: 59.3% | Value: 1.09x
Why Sits midfield from barrier 4 in a race where the leader is alone on the front. Fastest sectionals on the line with Hashizume riding a hot hand.
2. Poise (No.4) — $4.74 / place tote
Bet Tracked
Prob 21.4% | Place: 46.1% | Value: 1.01x
Why A real chance — but at that price the place the numbers don't give me enough edge to insure with. Watching, not betting.
3. Overtaking (No.5) — $19.00 / place tote
Bet Tracked
Prob 20.5% | Place: 59.2% | Value: 3.89x
Why Time fastest on the sectionals line and placed in her career. Midfield from barrier 3 gives her the right spot to pick up the pieces.

Roughie: Merrylees (No.10) — $37.04 / place tote
Bet Tracked
Prob 2.1% | Place: 9.8% | Value: 0.77x
Why Wide from barrier 9 with a genuine pace in front of her, so she has to be patient. If the leader gets hunted down she can come home late.

Race 4 – Wanganui Insurance Brokers Hcp (60)

Race type: Restricted 60, 1400m
Map & tempo: Moderate pace, and seven runners could find the front, so the speed will be shared. Luminance settles handy from barrier 9, which is a wide start but a nice sit behind the leaders. Queen Of France is drawn wide from barrier 11 and has to work to cross, while Gold Card from barrier 8 is in the same ON-PACE group.
Punty read: Luminance is the bet here, and I'm putting an each-way on him. He's 1-5-2 from 27 starts, with a soft record of 8 starts for 0 wins and 1 second, and his jockey strike rate is hot. The market has him at $4.41, which is the price I'm happy to back at. Queen Of France is the danger, with the sectionals fastest on the card line and a placing already. Gold Card is the one who finishes well over distance. Mateara is the roughie, midfield from barrier 4 with Ashlee Strawbridge up, and she needs the pace to collapse for a crack at it.

Top 3 + Roughie ($10.50 pool)

1. Luminance (No.4) — $8.50 / place tote
Bet $10.50 Each Way ($5.25W + $5.25P), collects $44.63 plus the tote place dividend if it wins, the tote place dividend if it only places
Prob 26.4% | Place: 48.3% | Value: 2.24x
Why Sits handy from barrier 9 and has placed on soft plenty of times. A-Lawson Carroll rides and the combo with K A Pertab has been strong.
2. Queen Of France (No.8) — $3.56 / place tote
Bet Tracked
Prob 23.2% | Place: 46.1% | Value: 0.83x
Why The top pick's each-way already covers the place angle here — doubling up is paying twice for the same insurance. Tracked instead.
3. Gold Card (No.5) — $8.50 / place tote
Bet Tracked
Prob 19.3% | Place: 46.1% | Value: 1.64x
Why Closes well over the trip and has placed on soft. Lynsey Satherley gives him the ride.

Roughie: Mateara (No.10) — $15.00 / place tote
Bet Tracked
Prob 7.0% | Place: 24.4% | Value: 1.05x
Why Midfield from barrier 4 in a moderate pace puts her in the right place to run on if the front-runners tire. Ashlee Strawbridge is the rider.

Race 5 – Entain/NZB Insurance Pearl Series Mdn

Race type: Maiden, 1400m
Map & tempo: Genuine pace with Boudicia's Revenge the only leader, but she's drawn wide from barrier 12 and has to work to cross. Bivabelle from barrier 3 and Bobbin Lady from barrier 2 are the pressure, and Russian Prime sits handy from barrier 7. The leader being wide means she'll need the race to go her way.
Punty read: Russian Prime is the bet, and he's the most likely to win from the sit. He's 0-2-1 from four starts on soft and his sectionals are time rank 2. Joe Doyle rides him and the market has him at $2.32, which is short but justified. Boudicia's Revenge is the danger, and I have her second on the numbers, though the draw makes her a tricky ride. Mateara is the place bet, a dual acceptor with no rider booked here, so you'll want to confirm the jockey before the jump. Bebeherb is the roughie from the back of the field, and he needs the speed to collapse.

Top 3 + Roughie ($26.00 pool)

1. Russian Prime (No.10) — $2.32 / place tote
Bet $10.50 Win, return $24.36
Prob 42.7% | Place: 70.0% | Value: 0.99x
Why Sits handy from barrier 7 in a genuine pace race and is placed on soft. Sectionals time rank 2 and Joe Doyle is on him.
2. Boudicia's Revenge (No.1) — $10.00 / place tote
Bet $5.00 Place, pays the tote place dividend
Prob 24.0% | Place: 54.1% | Value: 2.40x
Why The only leader in the race and the sectionals are the fastest on the line. Wide from barrier 12, so she has to work hard early.
3. Mateara (No.7) — $15.00 / place tote
Bet $10.50 Place, pays the tote place dividend
Prob 9.5% | Place: 34.1% | Value: 1.43x
Why Midfield from barrier 8 with a placing already on soft, and the place bet gives her a safer way in.

Roughie: Bebeherb (No.2) — $22.73 / place tote
Bet Tracked
Prob 4.2% | Place: 22.3% | Value: 0.94x
Why Back of the field from barrier 11 means he needs the leaders to come back to him. If the pace is genuine and the front pair fight it out, he can get home late.

Race 6 – NZB Mega Maiden Series Mdn

Race type: Maiden, 1600m
Map & tempo: Slow pace, and Scotty is the likeliest to find the front from barrier 2. Queen Of France is listed as a dual acceptor who has been entered in Race 4 but isn't booked here, so the numbers on her start depend on the jockey. The trail positions are the key, with Lord Gusto sitting midfield from barrier 3 and Dashing wide from barrier 11 who needs cover.
Punty read: Queen Of France is the staked pick on the numbers and the market has her at $3.40. She's a dual acceptor so check her jockey before the jump, but her one start on soft has been a placing and the sectionals are time rank 2. Lord Gusto is the value of the race, with the fastest sectionals on the line and a 1.33 value in my numbers. Scotty is the one who sets the pace and is the danger if nobody else wants the lead. Sax Appeal is the roughie from the back, needing the front pair to tire.

Top 3 + Roughie ($18.00 pool)

1. Queen Of France (No.7) — $3.40 / place tote
Bet $13.00 Win, return $44.20
Prob 27.8% | Place: 56.6% | Value: 0.95x
Why Sits handy from barrier 9 and has a placing on soft. Time rank 2 on the sectionals line and a strong combo with Shaun Fannin and Hazel Fannin.
2. Lord Gusto (No.6) — $23.00 / place tote
Bet $5.00 Place, pays the tote place dividend
Prob 23.2% | Place: 46.1% | Value: 5.34x
Why Fastest sectionals on the line and the price is fat for what the numbers show. Floor Moerman rides a trainer who has a good record here.
3. Scotty (No.1) — $5.13 / place tote
Bet Tracked
Prob 19.2% | Place: 46.1% | Value: 0.98x
Why The likeliest leader from barrier 2 and a placed horse on soft. Kelly Myers rides and he's the one who will set the tempo.

Roughie: Sax Appeal (No.11) — $17.86 / place tote
Bet Tracked
Prob 5.2% | Place: 22.3% | Value: 0.93x
Why Back of the field from barrier 4 with a 5-start soft record. If the front-runners tire, the closer can run on late.

Race 7 – Grangewilliam Stud (Bm75)

Race type: Benchmark 75, 1200m
Map & tempo: Moderate pace, and six runners could find the front, so this is a sit-and-fight race with plenty of traffic. Passiflora from barrier 1 sits handy, and that's the sit I'm after. Erbys Darci is drawn wide from barrier 9 and has to work to cross. Procul Boy and Exaggeration from barriers 8 and 7 are the back-half runners who need cover.
Punty read: Passiflora is the bet, and she's the one I trust in this race. She sits handy from barrier 1 and is a 2-1-2 horse on the card, with the sectionals rank 2 and Craig Grylls on board. The market has her at $3.04 and that's short but fair. Inchigeelagh Lass is the danger, and she can finish off a moderate pace. Procul Boy has 3 wins from 5 at the trip, which makes him a serious chance at $7.30. Erbys Darci is the roughie from the wide draw, but she has the soft form to make it interesting.

Top 3 + Roughie ($15.00 pool)

1. Passiflora (No.7) — $3.04 / place tote
Bet $15.00 Win, return $45.60
Prob 37.1% | Place: 61.7% | Value: 1.13x
Why Sits handy from barrier 1 and has a strong combo with the jockey and trainer. Time rank 2 on the sectionals line and the most likely to get the right sit.
2. Inchigeelagh Lass (No.6) — $5.50 / place tote
Bet Tracked
Prob 21.3% | Place: 46.1% | Value: 1.17x
Why A real chance — but at that price the place the numbers don't give me enough edge to insure with. Watching, not betting.
3. Procul Boy (No.1) — $9.50 / place tote
Bet Tracked
Prob 12.4% | Place: 38.9% | Value: 1.18x
Why Strong at this distance with 3 wins from 5 at the trip. Lemmy Douglas rides from barrier 8 and he's the one who can make ground late.

Roughie: Erbys Darci (No.3) — $9.01 / place tote
Bet Tracked
Prob 10.5% | Place: 34.1% | Value: 0.94x
Why Soft 6:2-0-0 and the trainer is hot. Wide from barrier 9 means she has to work, but if the front-runners dig too deep she can grab a place.

Race 8 – Weir Tours (Bm65)

Race type: Benchmark 65, 2100m
Map & tempo: Genuine pace with Highly Lethal the only leader from barrier 10, and nearest pressure from Tai, Maryrose, Luckytobehere, Our Lady Brooke and Keen On Bubbles. Highly Lethal is drawn wide and has to work to cross, which gives the sitters an edge. Maryrose settles handy from barrier 4, which puts her right in the mix behind the pressure.
Punty read: Maryrose is the one I'm backing, with a $3.00 win bet and Da Ace on the place. Maryrose has a sectionals fastest line and a 1st-up record of 5 starts for 1 win. Da Ace is the place bet from midfield, and her soft record of 7 starts with a second and a third makes her the safer leg. Highly Lethal is the danger from the front, and his draw means he has to go hard to get there. Luckytobehere is the roughie from the trail, and the pace is strong enough for him to get a run late.

Top 3 + Roughie ($8.50 pool)

1. Maryrose (No.7) — $26.00 / place tote
Bet $3.00 Win, return $78.00
Prob 17.3% | Place: 46.1% | Value: 4.50x
Why Sits handy from barrier 4 and has the fastest sectionals on the card line. Her 1st-up record is strong and Courtney Barnes gets the ride.
2. Da Ace (No.4) — $7.46 / place tote
Bet $5.50 Place, pays the tote place dividend
Prob 16.4% | Place: 45.7% | Value: 1.22x
Why Midfield from barrier 9 and placed on soft. The sectionals are time rank 3 and she's the one who can grab a spot in a genuine pace.
3. Highly Lethal (No.3) — $26.00 / place tote
Bet Tracked
Prob 13.3% | Place: 34.1% | Value: 3.46x
Why Time rank 2 on the sectionals line and a 2-1-0 soft record. He's the one who will set the pace from barrier 10, so he's dangerous if nobody wants to chase.

Roughie: Luckytobehere (No.8) — $13.70 / place tote
Bet Tracked
Prob 8.6% | Place: 27.9% | Value: 1.17x
Why Sits in the ON-PACE group from barrier 5 and has a soft record of 10 starts with a third. If Highly Lethal goes too hard, the trail runners get the chance to run on past him.

NUGGETS FROM THE TRACK

1 - The Procul Boy sweet spot
Procul Boy has 3 wins from 5 at the distance in R7, so the 1200m is where he does his best work. He's worth a close look for the place alongside Passiflora.

2 - Keen On Bubbles knows Hawera
Keen On Bubbles has 8 starts on this track for 3 seconds and 1 third in the data, which is the kind of home form worth remembering in R8.

3 - Tokyodome is the bloke who turns up to everything
26 starts, 1 win and 2 seconds. He's been to every race meeting in the state and still needs a nudge from the bookies to get a bet.

FINAL WORD FROM THE SICKO SANCTUARY

Eight races, one wet track and a heap of horses who all think they're the one. Back the ones the numbers back, let the rest go past, and don't chase your losses through the back half of the card. Catch you at the rail.
