Punty's Early Mail
PUNTY EARLY MAIL, Port Lincoln (2026-11-04)
For all of Punty's tips for Port Lincoln, head to https://punty.ai/tips/port-lincoln-2026-11-04
Rightio Degenerates, nine races on a Soft 5 at Port Lincoln with a card running 1000m to 1350m, and the rail's out so every bit of ground matters. Most of this card has a moderate pace on paper, so the horses who can get a soft sit will be the ones cashing. Grab a coffee, have a squiz at the maps, and let's get into it.
MEET SNAPSHOT
Track: Port Lincoln, 1000m to 1350m card
Rail: +2m 1000m - 800m, +2.5m 800m - 550m, +3m 550m - 350m, True Remainder
Official going: Soft 5 (Nil last 24 hours, 33.5mm last 7 days)
Weather: TBC, live gusts 27.8km/h
Early lane guess: unknown pre-race, watch the first two
Tempo profile: Eight of nine races are rated Moderate on the maps and Race 1 is Slow. Race 5 is the only Genuine pace on the card, with Chiaro the lone leader. Most of the early speed is spread out, so nobody's getting an easy lead.
Jockeys to follow:
Ms Rochelle Milnes: Nine rides, the most on the card, and she's on Pick 'n' Mix in R3 and Kublai in R4.
Connor Murtagh: Eight rides, including Utah in R7 and Skating On By in R5.
Ms Brooke King: Eight rides, with the Wirrulla Boy in R3 and Bending Away in R4 among them.
Stables to respect:
J Dunn & K Bishop (37 runners): Biggest operation on the card by a mile, with Utah in R7 and Trade Game in R6 both in the mix.
Trent & Laura Allen (16 runners): Gerace and Sauntering in R2, plus Catalina Blue and Master Charlie in R4.
Byron J Cozamanis (5 runners): Wirrulla Boy in R3 is the one to respect, with Vasilias in R6.
Punty's take: This is a card for the punters who read the maps. R1 is the only Slow pace race, and the speed is shared around, so the fight for the front in that race is wide open. R2 and R4 both have two leaders contesting the lead, which means the back half gets a chance to run them down. R3 is the one with the cleanest shape. The Wirrulla Boy sits handy behind two leaders and the map favours him, so that's the race that looks like the banker of the day. R5 is the Genuine pace race where Chiaro goes straight to the front and everything else has to chase. The Hass is the one I'm sweating on there because the shape works against him, but his last start was a win at Port Lincoln and the market has drifted on him. R7 and R9 are the messy ones. There's a lot of runners who could catch a bad trip, and the value sits further down the card than the favourites.
What it means for you: Keep your exposure tight in R3 and R8 because the shape is kind to the sitters and both pick-ups are right in the frame. Be aggressive in the chaos races where there are real prices on offer, but don't go mad on the wide tickets. The early and main sequences are built around the open races. Protect the bank in the banker-heavy legs and spend the rest on the wide bunch where the odds do the work. Check your numbers before the jump, because the lane guess is unknown pre-race and the first two into the turn will tell the story.
PUNTY'S BIG 3 + MULTI
These are the three bets the day leans on.
1 - The Wirrulla Boy (Race 3, No.4) — $2.20
Why He sits handy behind two leaders in a moderate pace, he's won at this trip on soft before, and he's the shortest price in the field for a reason.
2 - Over Yonder (Race 9, No.1) — $2.10
Why Barrier 1 and a rated sitter on a card where the leaders are scattered, and he's been placed on soft and at the trip.
3 - Raikoke (Race 8, No.2) — $2.65
Why Third last start at Port Lincoln 1350m, second-up record is strong, and he's the one to beat in a race that's shaping up as a sitter's race.
Multi (all three to win): $10 × 12.24 = $122.40
Race 1 – The Elliston Hotel Mdn Plate
Race type: Maiden, 1350m
Map & tempo: Slow pace on paper with nobody mapping to lead, but Defiant Caesour from barrier 2 and Fomenter from barrier 4 are the likeliest to find the front. Those two are fighting for the same spot, so the early tempo gets set by who gets to the front first. Initially is a midfield runner from barrier 7 and the shape isn't kind to him, but he has the class to get through it. The backmarkers Aquafox and Crimson Waltz are drawn wide and need luck to get cover.
Punty read: Initially is the bet and I'm happy to back him at $3.70 with the place price giving you something back. He finished second last start at Port Lincoln 1350m, beaten 0.5L, and his form is the strongest on the card for a maiden. The danger is Bouzy's Babe, who runs on well and sits near the speed, but the place price on him doesn't stack up. Velocity Rose and Makenzie are the ones to watch if the sprint at the front falls over.
Top 3 + Roughie ($8.50 pool)
1. Initially (No.5) — $3.70 / $1.65
Bet $8.50 Win, return $31.45
Prob 18.7% | Place: 46.1% | Value: 0.69x Steady since tip
Why Second last start at Port Lincoln 1350m beaten 0.5L, and he's got the most consistent maiden profile on the card. Sits midfield from barrier 7, so he needs a nice trip, but I'll take the price.
2. Bouzy's Babe (No.7) — $4.60 / $1.90
Bet Tracked
Prob 17.6% | Place: 46.1% | Value: 0.81x Steady since tip
Why A real chance — but at $1.90 the place the numbers don't give me enough edge to insure with. Watching, not betting.
3. Velocity Rose (No.10) — $5.00 / $1.95
Bet Tracked
Prob 15.0% | Place: 38.9% | Value: 0.75x Steady since tip
Why Sits midfield from barrier 5 in a race with a soft pace, and she's been running on the last two starts.
Roughie: Aquafox (No.1) — $10.00 / $3.00
Bet Tracked
Prob 9.5% | Place: 32.7% | Value: 0.95x Steady since tip
Why If the speed collapses and the midfield gets home, a big-price runner from a wide draw can catch the field napping. She's a sitter from barrier 10, so she needs the pace to fall apart.
Race 2 – Vinarchy Wines Mdn Hcp
Race type: Maiden, 1210m
Map & tempo: Slow pace with Trapeze Queen from barrier 4 and Gerace from barrier 2 the likeliest leaders. The shape favours the midfield runners and the back half gets a chance to run them down. Hammertime is drawn wide from barrier 10 and has to come off the back, but the map suits that style.
Punty read: Hammertime is the bet at $3.20 and he's the one with the closing style for this shape. He ran fifth at Port Lincoln 1000m last start, was bumped at Kembla Grange earlier, and the map helps him. Uncommon Mind is the value danger with a good soft record, and Offa's Dyke is the sitter who can get the job done if the leaders are slow.
Top 3 + Roughie ($13.00 pool)
1. Hammertime (No.8) — $3.20 / $1.55
Bet $13.00 Win, return $41.60
Prob 24.8% | Place: 70.0% | Value: 0.79x Steady since tip
Why He's the form horse with the closing style on this shape, and the map helps the back-runners. Bumped last start at Kembla Grange, so the run's got an excuse behind it.
2. Uncommon Mind (No.3) — $4.20 / $1.80
Bet Tracked
Prob 16.8% | Place: 53.5% | Value: 0.71x Steady since tip
Why A real chance — but at $1.80 the place the numbers don't give me enough edge to insure with. Watching, not betting.
3. Offa's Dyke (No.1) — $3.50 / $1.62
Bet Tracked
Prob 14.9% | Place: 53.2% | Value: 0.52x Steady since tip
Why Second last start at Port Lincoln 1000m and he's been placed a few times on the track. Good chance to sit in the top three.
Roughie: Princess Of Smiles (No.10) — $12.00 / $3.60
Bet Tracked
Prob 6.8% | Place: 32.7% | Value: 0.82x Steady since tip
Why Midfield runner from a wide draw, but if the speed holds up at the front she's got the late kick to pick up a placing at a big price.
Race 3 – Streaky Bay Hotel (Bm70)
Race type: Benchmark 70, 1000m
Map & tempo: Moderate pace with two leaders, Our Divinyl from barrier 3 and Spiritual Gal from barrier 8. The Wirrulla Boy sits handy from barrier 7 behind them, which is the best spot on the card for a horse that wants to be close. Pick 'n' Mix is on the speed too, so this is a race where the sitters can wait.
Punty read: The Wirrulla Boy is the bet at $2.20, and I'm happy to put money on the favourite because the shape helps him. He won at Port Lincoln 1000m last start and the sectional on that run was the fastest. The danger is Pick 'n' Mix, who has the speed to sit just behind the leaders and run through the line.
Top 3 + Roughie ($15.00 pool)
1. The Wirrulla Boy (No.4) — $2.25 / $1.15
Bet $15.00 Win, return $33.75
Prob 35.8% | Place: 70.0% | Value: 0.81x Steady since tip
Why Sits handy behind two leaders in a moderate pace, and his last start was a win at Port Lincoln 1000m. Weight form isn't pretty, but the shape does the heavy lifting here.
2. Pick 'n' Mix (No.2) — $4.50 / $1.65
Bet Tracked
Prob 23.0% | Place: 69.0% | Value: 1.04x Steady since tip
Why A real chance — but at $1.65 the place the numbers don't give me enough edge to insure with. Watching, not betting.
3. Charka (No.5) — $3.80 / $1.55
Bet Tracked
Prob 18.5% | Place: 70.0% | Value: 0.70x Steady since tip
Why Won at Port Lincoln 1210m last start and sits on the speed, so he's a runner who can run into the first three.
Roughie: Tydeus (No.1) — $13.00 / $3.00
Bet Tracked
Prob 4.9% | Place: 24.4% | Value: 0.63x Steady since tip
Why He's been unlucky with bumps in recent runs and he runs his best races at this trip. If the leaders go too hard, he can run home at a huge price.
Race 4 – The Kimba Hotel Hcp (54)
Race type: Handicap, 1000m
Map & tempo: Moderate pace, with Broadway Lane from barrier 2 and Kublai from barrier 4 the two leaders. Lapilli is drawn wide from barrier 9 and has to work to get across, so the shape is against him. Catalina Blue sits back from barrier 6 and wants the leaders to stop.
Punty read: Lapilli is the bet at $4.80 each way and I'm backing him because the class and the market support both sit with him. His form is strong, but he was bumped and slow-starting last time out so the excuse is there for him. Tornado's Sister is the danger from the back of the leaders, and Kublai sits in the pack if the speed holds up.
Top 3 + Roughie ($15.00 pool)
1. Lapilli (No.3) — $4.80 / $1.80
Bet $15.00 Each Way ($7.50W + $7.50P), collects $49.50 if it wins ($36.00 win + $13.50 place), $13.50 if it only places
Prob 21.1% | Place: 46.1% | Value: 1.01x Steady since tip
Why Bumped and slow-starting last run, so the form isn't the whole story. He's well-tried on soft and his first-up record is solid, so he's the one to back at a fair price.
2. Tornado's Sister (No.4) — $3.60 / $1.60
Bet Tracked
Prob 18.2% | Place: 49.3% | Value: 0.66x Steady since tip
Why The top pick's each-way already covers the place angle here — doubling up is paying twice for the same insurance. Tracked instead.
3. Kublai (No.2) — $4.20 / $1.65
Bet Tracked
Prob 16.0% | Place: 46.1% | Value: 0.67x Steady since tip
Why Sprint leaders with a good record on the track, and he'll be in the finish if the pace holds up.
Roughie: Catalina Blue (No.9) — $13.00 / $3.20
Bet Tracked
Prob 7.8% | Place: 32.7% | Value: 1.01x Steady since tip
Why Backmarker with a good record in sprints. If the leaders go too hard in front of him, he can run down the field from a long way back.
Race 5 – Asahi Publican's Day Hcp (54)
Race type: Handicap, 1000m
Map & tempo: Genuine pace with Chiaro the only leader from barrier 4, so the front is his if he wants it. The chasers come from barrier 3 to barrier 10, which means a lot of runners in a bunch behind him. The Hass is the most dangerous of the chasers from barrier 1, and he doesn't get a clear run if the pack bunches up.
Punty read: The Hass is the bet at $3.90 and I'm backing him because his last start was a win at Port Lincoln 1210m and the form is the best on the card. The shape is against him from barrier 1, and the market has drifted from $3.10 to $3.90. Prescient and Skating On By are the danger from the midfield, and Bulls On Parade is one to watch if the leader gets run down.
Top 3 + Roughie ($15.00 pool)
1. The Hass (No.1) — $4.20 / $1.65
Bet $15.00 Win, return $63.00
Prob 25.7% | Place: 70.0% | Value: 1.08x Steady since tip
Why Won last start at Port Lincoln 1210m and he's won twice on soft. The shape works against him from barrier 1, but the class and the form cover it.
2. Prescient (No.2) — $5.00 / $1.80
Bet Tracked
Prob 18.3% | Place: 58.6% | Value: 0.92x Steady since tip
Why A real chance — but at $1.80 the place the numbers don't give me enough edge to insure with. Watching, not betting.
3. Skating On By (No.3) — $4.50 / $1.75
Bet Tracked
Prob 15.5% | Place: 48.3% | Value: 0.70x Steady since tip
Why Sectional on the last run was among the fastest in the field, and he sits on the speed with a decent placing record on the track.
Roughie: Ze Birds'n'zebees (No.5) — $11.00 / $3.10
Bet Tracked
Prob 5.6% | Place: 24.4% | Value: 0.62x Steady since tip
Why Back from a 230 day spell, but the first-up record is 3:0-0-1. If the Genuine pace bunches the field up and the leader cracks, he's a long-shot that can close late.
Race 6 – The Pier Hotel Hcp (C1)
Race type: Handicap, 1000m
Map & tempo: Moderate pace, and nobody maps to lead, so there are lots of runners who could find the front. Lyra Star is the only forward runner who maps to get a clean sit. Fashizlemanizle sits midfield from barrier 8 and the shape is against him, which makes him a question mark on the card.
Punty read: Fashizlemanizle is the bet at $3.70 and I'm backing him because the class and the form still work. His last start was eighth at Naracoorte, he was raced wide, and his sectional was the fastest in the field. Trade Game and Russian Bobshark are the others to fancy, with Equine Headline the danger at a bigger price.
Top 3 + Roughie ($10.00 pool)
1. Fashizlemanizle (No.5) — $3.70 / $1.65
Bet $10.00 Win, return $37.00
Prob 19.0% | Place: 46.1% | Value: 0.70x Steady since tip
Why Raced wide last start, which is the excuse, and his sectional on that run was among the fastest. He's a class runner with a sprint record that suits this trip, but the shape is against him.
2. Trade Game (No.1) — $6.50 / $2.25
Bet Tracked
Prob 13.9% | Place: 38.9% | Value: 0.90x Steady since tip
Why A real chance — but at $2.25 the place the numbers don't give me enough edge to insure with. Watching, not betting.
3. Russian Bobshark (No.3) — $7.50 / $2.50
Bet Tracked
Prob 11.7% | Place: 32.7% | Value: 0.88x Steady since tip
Why Fast sectional on the last run and he's been placed on soft before.
Roughie: Queenoftheair (No.11) — $12.00 / $3.30
Bet Tracked
Prob 7.9% | Place: 29.3% | Value: 0.95x Steady since tip
Why Sits on the speed from barrier 12, so a fast trip with a wide draw costs her ground. If the leaders go hard and the pack gets stretched, she can close late.
Race 7 – The Marina Hotel Hcp (54)
Race type: Handicap, 1350m
Map & tempo: Moderate pace with nobody mapping to lead, but Utah from barrier 5 is the likeliest sitter to get a trip. The forward runners Midnight Ruler and Agreeance are drawn wide and have to work to cross. Minato is the one who gets the best shape of the sitters from barrier 6.
Punty read: Utah is the bet at $2.80 because he sits handy from barrier 5 and the shape helps him. He finished fourth last start at Port Lincoln 1350m, beaten 1.3L, and he's been placed on soft. Outcaster is the danger, and Sir Panama is the one who gets a clean run from the outside.
Top 3 + Roughie ($10.50 pool)
1. Utah (No.4) — $2.90 / $1.45
Bet $10.50 Win, return $30.45
Prob 17.1% | Place: 46.1% | Value: 0.50x Steady since tip
Why Sits handy from barrier 5 in a moderate pace, and his last start was fourth at Port Lincoln 1350m. He's the most consistent horse on the card at this trip.
2. Outcaster (No.11) — $5.50 / $2.00
Bet Tracked
Prob 14.6% | Place: 46.1% | Value: 0.80x Steady since tip
Why A real chance — but at $2.00 the place the numbers don't give me enough edge to insure with. Watching, not betting.
3. Sir Panama (No.2) — $7.00 / $2.50
Bet Tracked
Prob 9.6% | Place: 46.1% | Value: 0.67x Steady since tip
Why Sits on the speed from barrier 10 and has the class to finish near the top if the leaders fade.
Roughie: Navy Gold (No.13) — $11.00 / $3.30
Bet Tracked
Prob 9.0% | Place: 34.1% | Value: 0.99x Steady since tip
Why He's been a placegetter on the soft and the sprint leaders can wear down. He's got the speed to get in the mix if the race stays honest.
Race 8 – Wudinna Hotel (Bm68)
Race type: Benchmark 68, 1350m
Map & tempo: Moderate pace with plenty of speed, and Chef Militaire from barrier 8 and Raikoke from barrier 9 both sit close to the front. My Mate Sonny and Kokoro are on the speed too, so the field is loaded up at the front. Cleitus from barrier 11 is the one who gets pushed around if the speed is hot.
Punty read: Raikoke is the bet at $2.65 and I'm backing him because he was third at Port Lincoln 1350m last start, beaten 0.8L, and he's been second on the same track. The shape is against him from barrier 9 and I'm backing him anyway because the class is there. Chef Militaire is the danger, a race-winning sitter who was first at the same track last start.
Top 3 + Roughie ($10.50 pool)
1. Raikoke (No.2) — $2.80 / $1.40
Bet $10.50 Win, return $29.40
Prob 26.4% | Place: 63.4% | Value: 0.74x Steady since tip
Why Third last start at Port Lincoln 1350m and second on the same track the start before. Shape is against him from barrier 9, but the class covers it.
2. Chef Militaire (No.1) — $5.00 / $2.00
Bet Tracked
Prob 19.6% | Place: 61.5% | Value: 0.98x Steady since tip
Why A real chance — but at $2.00 the place the numbers don't give me enough edge to insure with. Watching, not betting.
3. My Mate Sonny (No.3) — $8.00 / $2.65
Bet Tracked
Prob 10.4% | Place: 45.6% | Value: 0.83x Steady since tip
Why Has won at this distance and he's got the closing ability to run down the leaders.
Roughie: Kokoro (No.8) — $9.00 / $2.85
Bet Tracked
Prob 10.5% | Place: 38.9% | Value: 0.94x Steady since tip
Why Sits on the speed from barrier 6 and his sectional is among the best on the card. If the leaders fight too hard, he can run home.
Race 9 – Great Northern Hotel (Bm60)
Race type: Benchmark 60, 1210m
Map & tempo: Moderate pace, and Over Yonder from barrier 1 is on the speed behind a field loaded with early runners. The Guava is the midfield runner who needs the leaders to tire, and Bjarne from barrier 13 is the one who has to make up ground from a long way back.
Punty read: Over Yonder is the bet at $2.10 and I'm backing him because he's been placed on the track and has a strong sectional. The shape is against him from barrier 1, but the class is there. The Guava is the danger from the midfield and Strawberry Swing sits handy if the leaders die.
Top 3 + Roughie ($10.50 pool)
1. Over Yonder (No.1) — $2.35 / $1.25
Bet $10.50 Win, return $24.68
Prob 26.5% | Place: 60.2% | Value: 0.62x Steady since tip
Why Fifth at Morphettville last start after a slow start, but he's placed on the track and his sectionals are among the best. Barrier 1 keeps him on the speed.
2. The Guava (No.6) — $5.50 / $2.15
Bet Tracked
Prob 13.5% | Place: 46.1% | Value: 0.74x Steady since tip
Why A real chance — but at $2.15 the place the numbers don't give me enough edge to insure with. Watching, not betting.
3. Strawberry Swing (No.10) — $5.00 / $1.95
Bet Tracked
Prob 12.3% | Place: 46.1% | Value: 0.62x Steady since tip
Why Won at Port Lincoln 1210m last start and sits on the speed. A good chance to run into the placings.
Roughie: Bjarne (No.2) — $10.00 / $3.10
Bet Tracked
Prob 10.8% | Place: 38.9% | Value: 1.08x Steady since tip
Why Midfield runner from barrier 13 who needs the leaders to tire. If the speed burns out, he can run home from a long way back.
SEQUENCE LANES
EARLY QUADDIE (R2–R5)
Smart: 8,3,1 / 4,5,2 / 4,2,3,9 / 1,2,3 (108 combos x $0.3241 = $35.00) -- 32.4% flexi
Punty's take: R3 is the tight leg with the Wirrulla Boy and Pick 'n' Mix, while R2, R4 and R5 are wide open with four runners each. The overall risk is high, and the ticket is built for a payout if the wide legs come in.
QUADDIE (R6–R9)
Smart: 5,1,3,11 / 11,4,2,13 / 2,1,3,8 / 1,10,6,2 (256 combos x $0.3125 = $80.00) -- 31.2% flexi
Punty's take: Every leg is open, so this is a chaos ticket. R8 is the tightest with three runners but the shape's against the lead pick, so the risk is high.
BIG 6 (R4–R9)
Smart: 4,2,3,9 / 1,2,3,5 / 5,1,3,11 / 11,4,2,13 / 2,1,3,8 / 1,10,6,2 (4096 combos x $0.00122 = $5.00) -- 0.12% flexi
Punty's take: Six open legs and a 0.12% flexi, so this is an entertainment-only ticket. Hit it for a laugh, not a living.
NUGGETS FROM THE TRACK
1 - Dead on the first-up
Ze Birds'n'zebees is 230 days off and his first-up record reads 3:0-0-1, so he's not a fresh-up cripple. He's a roughie from a long spell in R5, so watch the market.
2 - Heavy money on the wrong end
Oriedos opened at $23.00 and is now $12.00 in R7, which is HEAVY money. Lava Lad opened at $15.00 and is now $12.00 in R9, also HEAVY. Follow the money on these two, but don't chase the drift on anything else.
3 - Write your own ticket
Spreadsheets is $126.00 in R2 and Cleitus is $101.00 in R8. Those two prices are the closest thing on the card to a write-your-own-ticket bet. Fun for the sake of it, not for the bank.
FINAL WORD FROM THE SICKO SANCTUARY
Nine races, one soft track, and a shape that rewards the sitters more often than not. Back your reads, keep the wide tickets small, and remember the best punters are the ones who still have money for the next meeting.
