2026 Keeneland September Yearling Sale (Bm64)
1200m · HANDICAP · 13:35
✗ MISS -$15 Final

Race type: Handicap, 1200m
Map & tempo: Genuine Pace, Blessed Eagle leads early
Punty read: This one's for people who like watching horses actually do the job early. With a genuine pace and the rail in play, you want those sitting close enough to take the first invitation at the 100m mark. Blessed Eagle (No.1) is the established leader type, but Bring Me Chocolate (No.5) looks like the better "stays in the race" option, sitting near the speed and able to keep grinding. Sequinned (No.7) is the sort that can sneak into the trifecta if the front line does the usual short-circuit and tires slightly early.

Top 3 + Roughie ($15.00 pool)

1. Bring Me Chocolate (No.5) — $4.45 / $1.75 🏆 UNPLACED
Bet $15.00 Win — ✗ Lost, net -$15.00
Prob 25.4% | Place: 40.3% | Value: 1.27x
Why On-pace without needing to lead, and the Good 4 makes that grinding style deadly, especially when the leaders set it up.

2. Blessed Eagle (No.1) — $3.20 / $1.50 🏆 3RD
Bet Tracked
Prob 26.1% | Place: 54.3% | Value: 0.87x
Why Only two places paid in a field this size, and skinny place divvies make savers a mug's game — this is a win-only race. Tracked, not staked.

3. Saffron Veil (No.8) — $4.30 / $1.90 🏆 2ND
Bet Tracked
Prob 25.4% | Place: 53.8% | Value: 1.14x

Roughie: Katoto (No.2) — $5.75 / $2.20 🏆 4TH
Bet Tracked
Prob 14.2% | Place: 29.0% | Value: 0.92x
Why He's the sort that can lift late if the speed collapses, but in this market shape, he needs everything to go right.

✓ WON +$23 Final

Race type: Maiden Handicap, 1400m
Map & tempo: Slow Pace, backmarkers disadvantaged
Punty read: This is a "get from A to B without spilling the bucket" race. Slow early means the whole field is going to bunch up just far enough for the better movers to find clear air late. Sing Your Song (No.12) is the one who looks built for that scenario, sitting in a spot to pounce. Wonka (No.10) and Albert Palais (No.2) are both lurking danger with the kind of place profiles that can cash if you're patient.

Top 3 + Roughie ($13.00 pool)

1. Sing Your Song (No.12) — $2.79 / $1.30 🏆 WINNER
Bet $13.00 Win — ✓ Won, net +$23.27
Prob 37.2% | Place: 69.0% | Value: 1.29x
Why Slow pace suits him perfectly, and the market is locked in, which usually means the rider's plan is a simple one.

2. Wonka (No.10) — $9.05 / $2.65 🏆 3RD
Bet Tracked
Prob 9.9% | Place: 35.8% | Value: 1.16x
Why A real chance — but at $2.65 the place he's not a saver, he's a punt, and that's not a price I insure at. Watching, not betting.

3. Albert Palais (No.2) — $9.15 / $2.65 🏆 UNPLACED
Bet Tracked
Prob 9.4% | Place: 34.1% | Value: 1.15x
Why Third line of the market is where place bets go to die slowly — the ledger says so at every price. He carries the exotics and the watch list, not the bankroll.

Roughie: Iron Age (No.7) — $13.75 / $3.50 🏆 UNPLACED
Bet Tracked
Prob 8.0% | Place: 29.0% | Value: 1.37x
Why If the tempo stays slow and gaps appear late, he's got enough punch to slot in, but he's still the secondary chance.

✓ WON +$11 Final

Race type: Handicap, 2200m
Map & tempo: Slow Pace, big distance but calm early
Punty read: 2200 on Good 4 and slow tempo means the race shape is everything. Appeared (No.1) is the standout because he can be on the speed, avoid getting stuck mid-pack, and then keep taking chunks out of the field late. Forbidden Riff (No.2) is the biggest main threat, because he's the sort who can travel into the race without being forced to do extra early. Proxima Centauri (No.7) is the value closer if the leaders start to wobble, but he'll need real running room.

Top 3 + Roughie ($12.00 pool)

1. Appeared (No.1) — $1.88 / $1.15 🏆 WINNER
Bet $12.00 Win — ✓ Won, net +$10.56
Prob 30.1% | Place: 59.3% | Value: 0.68x
Why Slow pace gives him time to get organised, and at 2200 on Good 4, the horse that stays in rhythm usually wins.

2. Forbidden Riff (No.2) — $4.05 / $1.80 🏆 2ND
Bet Tracked
Prob 30.1% | Place: 59.6% | Value: 1.17x

✗ MISS -$22 Final

Race type: Handicap, 1600m
Map & tempo: Slow Pace, on-pace set for a sit and sprint
Punty read: This is a "controlled" 1600. Leica Storm (No.3) is the horse that looks like he'll get first run at them when the tempo is slow and the field isn't stretching early. Think Itz You (No.7) is the natural main threat for the place and the quinella chance if the winner does it the hard way. Savoonga (No.11) is on the map as a midfield type and can run into it, but I'm less excited about the odds when the top two are right there.

Top 3 + Roughie ($22.00 pool)

1. Leica Storm (No.3) — $3.62 / $1.52 🏆 4TH
Bet $17.00 Win — ✗ Lost, net -$17.00
Prob 27.2% | Place: 64.5% | Value: 1.22x
Why Slow pace means he can set up, then use that finish when others are still catching their breath.

2. Think Itz You (No.7) — $4.05 / $1.60 🏆 5TH
Bet $5.00 Place — ✗ Lost, net -$5.00
Prob 19.2% | Place: 56.5% | Value: 0.95x

3. Savoonga (No.11) — $6.00 / $2.00 🏆 9TH
Bet Tracked
Prob 14.9% | Place: 47.0% | Value: 0.98x

Roughie: Natural Ruler (No.2) — $10.80 / $3.00 🏆 8TH
Bet Tracked
Prob 7.2% | Place: 23.4% | Value: 0.95x

✓ WON +$20 Final

Race type: Handicap, 1400m
Map & tempo: Moderate Pace, value comes from patience
Punty read: This is a tricky 1400 where the winner is probably the one who times the turn, not the one who panics early. Queen's Gamble (No.11) has the "should run a race" profile and he's heavily regarded, but Kwirky Smile (No.14) is the place leverage play, and Samarelle (No.3) is the value curveball with the right type of run. Lunaite (No.6) can also be involved if the race shape allows that mid-to-late transition.

Top 3 + Roughie ($13.00 pool)

1. Queen's Gamble (No.11) — $2.55 / $1.25 🏆 WINNER
Bet $13.00 Win — ✓ Won, net +$20.15
Prob 24.6% | Place: 65.8% | Value: 0.77x
Why Short price for a reason, he's got the consistency for this tempo and should be in the finish frame.

2. Kwirky Smile (No.14) — $7.50 / $2.55 🏆 UNPLACED
Bet Tracked
Prob 16.9% | Place: 53.8% | Value: 1.49x
Why A real chance — but at $2.55 the place he's not a saver, he's a punt, and that's not a price I insure at. Watching, not betting.

✗ MISS -$13 Final

Race type: Handicap, 1400m
Map & tempo: Slow Pace, value is in the place run
Punty read: With slow tempo, you want someone who can sit close without being grabbed by the pack. Gus The Great (No.6) is the on-race type and looks like he'll be hard to hold out in the place zones. The big price/value swing is Waerea (No.10), who fits the profile for a strong late surge. Cavalry (No.3) is the other danger for the trifecta and can sneak into the top three if the favourites do it the wrong way.

Top 3 + Roughie ($13.00 pool)

1. Gus The Great (No.6) — $3.35 / $1.52 🏆 2ND
Bet $13.00 Win — ✗ Lost, net -$13.00
Prob 22.0% | Place: 66.0% | Value: 0.92x
Why Slow pace keeps everything together, and he's got the style to keep finding without needing a miracle.

2. Waerea (No.10) — $8.15 / $2.60 🏆 UNPLACED
Bet Tracked
Prob 9.4% | Place: 29.0% | Value: 1.53x
Why A real chance — but at $2.60 the place he's not a saver, he's a punt, and that's not a price I insure at. Watching, not betting.

Prob 7.5% | Place: 23.4% | Value: 1.01x

Race type: Handicap, 1000m
Map & tempo: Genuine Pace, sprint speed battle
Punty read: Welcome to the chaos sprint, 1000m where everything is compressed and excuses don't travel. Manukau (No.7) and She's Extra (No.11) are both on-pace enough to take advantage if they get a decent run, while Action King (No.2) is the one I want for a value line through the first part of the race. Beau Bandit (No.14) is a live outsider if the speed is properly contested early, but the danger is you get a straight race and then the midfield folks get fried.

Top 3 + Roughie ($10.50 pool)

1. Manukau (No.7) — $4.35 / $1.80
Bet $10.50 Each Way ($5.25W + $5.25P)
Prob 20.0% | Place: 47.4% | Value: 1.10x
Why He's right in the speed mix and should be there when the line arrives, sprinting on a Good 4 with a fair lane.

2. She's Extra (No.11) — $5.15 / $1.95
Bet Tracked
Prob 15.1% | Place: 47.0% | Value: 0.97x
Why The top pick's each-way already covers the place angle here — doubling up is paying twice for the same insurance. Tracked instead.

Bet Tracked
Prob 12.8% | Place: 40.3% | Value: 1.35x

Why If the tempo drags and the race strings out late, he's capable of snatching a spot, but he needs things to unfold.

Punty's Early Mail

Rightio Loose Units, Warwick Farm on a Good 4 with the rail +3m and bugger all rain, meaning the track should play fair, pacy, and a bit unforgiving to anyone who parks too deep and prays.

If you're chasing the day's best storyline, it's simple. You want races where horses can get into a rhythm, then keep finding when others get swallowed up by the sprint-to-the-line effect. The opening and the middle legs of the quaddie are where the sane money goes, but I'm eyeing a couple of value landmines because the form is there, the map is there, and the market just hasn't caught up in full.

And yeah, I'm going to put a spine on it. The Big 3 is doing the heavy lifting, then we go multi for a bite of the pie. Think of it like three mates walking into the pub and ordering the same thing, and you're the one degenerate cashing in when it actually works.

MEET SNAPSHOT

Track: Warwick Farm, short-middle gallops m card
Rail: +3m Entire
Official going: Good 4 (expected to play Forward, on-pace and mid-field closers)
Weather: Mostly sunny, 26°C, humidity 36%, wind 16km/h NW (watch for gusty starts, no rain so expect clean footing)
Early lane guess: Inside to midfield, just don't let it turn into a "too far back" karaoke
Tempo profile: Genuine to moderate early, then races start to sort themselves out in the run home
Jockeys to follow:
James McDonald: gets the right trips early, and he doesn't waste chances when the market's watching.
Tommy Berry: when he's got one in the race shape, he'll be right there at the finish line handshake.
Kerrin McEvoy: reliable in these conditions, especially when the tempo is calm and the horse can work.
Stables to respect:
C J Waller (10 runners): pattern of putting horses in position and getting them home with one kick.
John Thompson (6 runners): clean prep, smart ride plans, and they don't mind a tactical sit on good ground.
C Maher (4 runners): when they're live in the market, it's usually because it's go-time, not theory.

Punty's take:

This is a Good 4 day where you can't be too cute. You'll see it early in Race 1, where the pace is "genuine" and the rail +3m means those on-speed horses are getting first look at the line. If you're backing a backmarker in a sprinty 1200, you better have a monster finish plan, because the leaders will be draining the race like a leaky bucket.

Then Race 2 through Race 4 is where the meeting turns into a proper contest of class and position. Race 2 has a clear vibe of a front end settling job, with Sing Your Song sitting right in the right spot in a field that's probably going to crawl early. Race 3 is the staying angle, and this is where the on-pace types that can keep their momentum are the danger, because 2200 on a Good 4 punishes the ones stuck doing extra work.

And Race 4 is your "tight and tidy" leg of the day. Leica Storm maps to control the race story, and when a horse is firming with that sort of market attention, you don't get clever unless you've got a genuine reason.

What it means for you:

My game plan is to take the spine races seriously. Race 2, Race 3, Race 4. That's your Big 3 + Multi layer. I'm not trying to reinvent the wheel, I'm trying to make money when the favourites should behave like favourites, and the main dangers are still in range.

For the rest of the card, I'm selectively aggressive on the places where the market is stuffing about, or where the horse profile and gear says "this prep matters". Race 5 is a classic "watch for the closer with a better lane" race, Race 6 is the value place angle, and Race 7 is a sprint where the speed can get dragged across you, so I'm taking one run at it with a main hopes and then a value swing.
