Rightio Degenerates, Belmont Park is cooked up on a Soft 5 with showers through the day and seven races on the card, so the speed map is going to decide who gets paid. There are 66 runners and no scratchings, which means the form is all live and nobody gets a free walk-over.

MEET SNAPSHOT

Track: Belmont Park, 1000m to 1400m card
Rail: +3m Entire
Official going: Soft 5 (Rainfall: 9.5mm last 24 hrs, 14mm last 7 days)
Weather: Showers, live gusts 24.1km/h
Early lane guess: unknown pre-race, watch the first two
Tempo profile: Genuine Pace in R1 and R5, Moderate Pace in R3, R4, R6 and R7, and a Slow Pace in R2. R2 is the only one where the front end is missing, so the backmarkers have to earn it.
Jockeys to follow:
Chris Parnham: 5 rides today, including Official Business in R1 and Gentle Touch in R3. His Belmont Park record is 1368 wins from 8773 rides, so he knows the track.
Lucy F Fiore: 4 rides today, including Chixfromthestix in R1, Encroaching in R2 and Budino in R3. She is the one to watch in the midfield on this surface.
Natika Riordan: 4 rides today, including Artie's Storm in R3, Jolson Al in R4, Harbour Rise in R5 and Nickelplay in R6. Jolson Al is the leader to watch in R4.
Stables to respect:
N D Parnham (8 runners): Official Business in R1 is the biggest name here, with Scully and Strideaway in R7 and Nickelplay in R6 on top of that. Eight runners is a lot of ammunition across the card.
S & J Casey (6 runners): One Last Resort and Clear Assault in R1, Artie's Storm in R3, Super Sentai in R4 and Jolson Al and Jackpot Bingo in R4 and R6. They are spread across the card, so they are a dangerous stable to ignore.
G C Ballantyne (4 runners): Bosisto in R5, Centre Bond in R6, and Jelly Can Run and Romming Danger in R7. Their runners are at the back of the pack on the speed maps, so they need a bit of luck to get them into the finish.

Punty's take:

R1 is where the speed is. Clear Assault is the only LEADER in the race, and it is drawn wide at barrier 8, so the question is whether anyone comes to make a race of it. Official Business, Fast Break, Supersmash and Chixfromthestix are all ON-PACE behind him, so there is no shortage of horses that want to be near the front. Chixfromthestix gets the pace advantage on the map, which makes him the roughie to watch.

R2 is the Slow Pace one. There is no leader on the map and most of the field are BACKMARKERS, which means the midfield runners (Encroaching and Lacey Marie) are the ones to be on if the pace stays slow. The price on the favourite is $3.00 and the backmarkers are paying for the wrong pace.

R3 is a Moderate Pace race with the speed spread across Intimidation Time, Artie's Storm, Algadon Storm and Greyt Ruby. Gentle Touch is the only BACKMARKER in the field and has the map working against him, so his bet is a stretch that needs the front runners to come back to him. Artie's Storm is the one who gets the early pace advantage on the way round, and the market is already moving to him.

R4 is a Moderate Pace race with Jolson Al and Sharamoosh as the two LEADERS. Super Sentai is the only runner the pace works against, which keeps the leaders honest. Levati Dimezzo is in the midfield at a good price for the each way, and the Ballantyne and Parnham stables both have useful runners.

R5 is a Genuine Pace race where Star Martini is the only LEADER and the ON-PACE group behind him is deep. That sets up a race where the leader has to be tested by a lot of horses, which is why he is the big question of the day. Reginetta gets the pace advantage on the map and is the danger to watch.

R6 is the open one. Two LEADERS in King Of The Town and Polyvanova, and a midfield of seven horses that all look like they could pull up the rest. No locked selections here, so keep your money in your pocket for this one.

R7 is also a Moderate Pace race with no leader on the map. Scully and Wicked Venom get the pace advantage, and Strideaway is the midfielder with the big ceiling if the speed collapses. No locked selections in this one either.

What it means for you:

Build your day around R1, R4 and R5. Official Business gets the each way call in R1, Levati Dimezzo gets the each way in R4, and Star Martini gets the win in R5. Those three are the Big 3 for the day, and they are the bets to be aggressive on.

R3 is where you need to be careful. Gentle Touch is backed to win, but the map has him at the back in a Moderate Pace race, so keep the stake where it is and don't chase him up.

R2, R6 and R7 are the ones to sit on your hands for. The prices are either missing or the data does not back a bet, so those races are for the watching brief. If you have a spare dollar in R6 or R7, it is entertainment money, not a bet.

PUNTY'S BIG 3 + MULTI

These are the three bets the day leans on.

1 - Official Business (Race 1, No.1) — $2.70
Why He is ON-PACE behind a single leader, won his last start at Ascot 1200m, and has the best track jockey on the card in the saddle.
2 - Star Martini (Race 5, No.7) — $3.20
Why The only LEADER in a Genuine Pace race, rated the fastest early speed in the field, and he has run second twice at Belmont Park 1000m before winning last start at Northam.
3 - Levati Dimezzo (Race 4, No.6) — $2.90
Why Three seconds in his last three starts and a good record on a good track. The win is the only thing missing from his record, and a moderate pace race suits him in the midfield.

Multi (all three to win): $10 × 25.06 = $250.60

Race 1 – Reliable Asset Maintenance

Race type: Rst 0 Met Win-LY, 1200m
Map & tempo: Genuine Pace. Clear Assault is the LEADER from barrier 8. ON-PACE: Official Business, Fast Break, Supersmash and Chixfromthestix. MIDFIELD: Countersunk and One Last Resort. Do The Math is UNKNOWN. Chixfromthestix has the pace advantage on the map.
Punty read: Official Business gets the each way call. He sits in the ON-PACE group, has a win and a second at 1200m, and won at Ascot 1200m last start over 12 runners. Chris Parnham is aboard, and the market has him at $2.70 with a place price of $1.20. The danger is One Last Resort at $2.10, who has run second in each of his last two starts at Northam and Belmont Park. Clear Assault leads from barrier 8 with the winkers off for the first time, so he is the one to watch if the pace gets hot early.

Top 3 + Roughie ($15.00 pool)

1. Official Business (No.1) — $2.70 / $1.20
Bet $15.00 Each Way ($7.50W + $7.50P), collects $29.25 if it wins ($20.25 win + $9.00 place), $9.00 if it only places
Prob 35.6% | Place: 70.0% | Value: 0.96x Steady since tip
Why He won at Ascot last start, is ON-PACE with a clear path to the front half, and has the best track jockey in the race on him.
2. One Last Resort (No.3) — $2.10 / $1.10
Bet Tracked
Prob 27.5% | Place: 70.0% | Value: 0.58x Steady since tip
Why The top pick's each-way already covers the place angle here — doubling up is paying twice for the same insurance. Tracked instead.
3. Fast Break (No.5) — $7.00 / $1.82
Bet Tracked
Prob 10.7% | Place: 38.9% | Value: 0.75x Steady since tip
Why ON-PACE with a second last start at Lark Hill, but the form is thin and the price doesn't do enough to get a bet.

Roughie: Chixfromthestix (No.7) — $11.00 / $2.55
Bet Tracked
Prob 7.9% | Place: 38.9% | Value: 0.87x Steady since tip
Why He has the pace advantage on the map and was held up by interference twice in his last starts. If the speed collapses and he gets a run, he is the one who can run down a Genuine Pace field from the ON-PACE group.

Race 2 – SENTurf Mdn

Race type: Maiden, 1400m
Map & tempo: Slow Pace. No LEADER on the map. BACKMARKER: Adroit, Novalie, Birdiebirdie, Bella Roccia and Radar Love. MIDFIELD: Encroaching and Lacey Marie. UNKNOWN: Broda, Everlasting Light, Angel Craft and Venetian Gem. Adroit and Lacey Marie have the pace advantage.
Punty read: Encroaching is the bet. He is MIDFIELD in a Slow Pace race, so he is in the spot where the pace suits him. He finished 4th at Belmont Park 1000m twice and had interference at Bunbury last start, which is a good sign for a horse who has been unlucky. Lucy Fiore is up and the market has him at $3.00. Lacey Marie is the danger at $3.80, third at Belmont Park 1200m last start, and Birdiebirdie is firming in the market from $5.00 to $4.20 with no data line I can use to explain it.

Top 3 + Roughie ($13.00 pool)

1. Encroaching (No.2) — $3.00 / $1.45
Bet $13.00 Win, return $39.00
Prob 27.4% | Place: 59.2% | Value: 0.82x Steady since tip
Why He is the MIDFIELD runner in a Slow Pace race and his last start was a bumped 6th at Bunbury with a 3.7 length margin. Lucy Fiore has the combo strike at this track with D L Morton.
2. Lacey Marie (No.3) — $3.80 / $1.65
Bet Tracked
Prob 22.7% | Place: 53.8% | Value: 0.86x Steady since tip
Why A real chance — but at $1.65 the place the numbers don't give me enough edge to insure with. Watching, not betting.
3. Birdiebirdie (No.5) — $4.40 / $1.72
Bet Tracked
Prob 13.6% | Place: 46.1% | Value: 0.60x Steady since tip
Why BACKMARKER in a Slow Pace race, which is the wrong spot for him. The money is coming, but I can't see the reason.

Roughie: Venetian Gem (No.11) — $11.00 / $3.10
Bet Tracked
Prob 7.5% | Place: 29.3% | Value: 0.82x Steady since tip
Why Third at Lark Hill 1050m last start, with William Pike on board and a good record with Pike at this track. If the slow pace is slow enough for the midfielders to sit on, he can sneak into the frame.

Race 3 – MC Equine Surfaces Hcp (C1)

Race type: Class 1, 1200m
Map & tempo: Moderate Pace. ON-PACE: Intimidation Time, Artie's Storm, Algadon Storm and Greyt Ruby. MIDFIELD: Budino, She's A Splinter and Luna Ascending. BACKMARKER: Gentle Touch. Artie's Storm, She's A Splinter and Luna Ascending have the pace advantage on the map. Gentle Touch is the one the pace works against.
Punty read: Gentle Touch is the bet, and I'm backing him to win knowing the map has him at the back. His form is the reason. He won at Belmont Park 1200m in July on soft ground, and has been running on the last two starts at 6th and 7th. Chris Parnham is aboard and the market has him at $2.45. Artie's Storm is the danger, a market mover from $4.40 to $3.80, with the blinkers off for the first time and a good 2nd-up record. She's A Splinter came in 5th last start with a medical issue and held up, so she is one to watch.

Top 3 + Roughie ($15.00 pool)

1. Gentle Touch (No.6) — $2.50 / $1.17
Bet $15.00 Win, return $37.50
Prob 27.4% | Place: 70.0% | Value: 0.68x Steady since tip
Why He won at Belmont Park 1200m in July on soft and has form at this distance. The map is against him, so the bet relies on the front runners coming back to him.
2. Artie's Storm (No.2) — $3.80 / $1.45
Bet Tracked
Prob 24.6% | Place: 70.0% | Value: 0.93x Steady since tip
Why A real chance — but at $1.45 the place the numbers don't give me enough edge to insure with. Watching, not betting.
3. She's A Splinter (No.4) — $3.10 / $1.32
Bet Tracked
Prob 24.2% | Place: 70.0% | Value: 0.75x Steady since tip
Why Held up with a physical issue last start, but the Belmont Park sectionals are good and the form is there.

Roughie: Budino (No.3) — $9.50 / $2.50
Bet Tracked
Prob 7.1% | Place: 32.7% | Value: 0.68x Steady since tip
Why He won at Kalgoorlie 1200m last start, is MIDFIELD, and gets the pace advantage on the map. If the front runners go too hard, he is the one who can sit three wide and run them down.

Race 4 – Drummond Golf Hcp (C1)

Race type: Class 1, 1200m
Map & tempo: Moderate Pace. LEADERS: Jolson Al and Sharamoosh. ON-PACE: Quokka Rocka, Super Sentai, Excelindeed and I'm A Soulman. MIDFIELD: Consignment and Levati Dimezzo. Super Sentai is the only one the pace works against.
Punty read: Levati Dimezzo gets the each way. He has run second in each of his last three starts, which is a horse that is knocking on the door. Brad Parnham is aboard and the market has him at $2.90 with a place price of $1.35. Consignment is a danger at $2.75, a winner at Belmont Park 850m last start, and the market has him as a strong second. Jolson Al leads, with the blinkers off and ear muffs on for the first time, and his last start was a raced wide interference. Excelindeed is the one to watch with the cross-over nose band off for the first time.

Top 3 + Roughie ($15.00 pool)

1. Levati Dimezzo (No.6) — $2.90 / $1.35
Bet $15.00 Each Way ($7.50W + $7.50P), collects $31.88 if it wins ($21.75 win + $10.13 place), $10.13 if it only places
Prob 29.5% | Place: 70.0% | Value: 0.86x Steady since tip
Why Second three times in a row and a good record on good ground. The win is the only thing missing from his record.
2. Consignment (No.4) — $2.90 / $1.25
Bet Tracked
Prob 21.5% | Place: 70.0% | Value: 0.62x Steady since tip
Why The top pick's each-way already covers the place angle here — doubling up is paying twice for the same insurance. Tracked instead.
3. Quokka Rocka (No.1) — $5.00 / $1.70
Bet Tracked
Prob 15.2% | Place: 46.1% | Value: 0.76x Steady since tip
Why ON-PACE with a 2nd and 3rd in his last two starts at Belmont Park 1000m. He is the one I'm watching, not one I'm backing.

Roughie: Super Sentai (No.3) — $20.00 / $3.70
Bet Tracked
Prob 3.3% | Place: 17.9% | Value: 0.65x Steady since tip
Why He is the one the pace works against, so the only path is the two leaders getting run off their feet early. A moderate pace says that's not the plan, but Chris Parnham can ride a race and he has won at Northam 1100m.

Race 5 – Lawn Pride Australia Hcp (C3)

Race type: Class 3, 1000m
Map & tempo: Genuine Pace. LEADER: Star Martini. ON-PACE: King Brew, Bosisto, Reginetta, Favoured Son and Simply Outrageous. MIDFIELD: Harbour Rise and Invincible Ruby. Reginetta has the pace advantage. Bosisto is the one the pace works against.
Punty read: Star Martini gets the win bet. He is the only leader in a Genuine Pace race, and his last start was a win at Northam 1000m. Holly Nottle is aboard and the market has him at $3.20. He has a good record at this distance with two wins from seven starts. The danger is Reginetta at $4.50, who has won her last three starts and carries 3kg more than last start. King Brew has blinkers on for the first time and has a second-up record that suits.

Top 3 + Roughie ($11.00 pool)

1. Star Martini (No.7) — $3.20 / $1.45
Bet $11.00 Win, return $35.20
Prob 29.9% | Place: 46.1% | Value: 0.96x Steady since tip
Why The only leader in a Genuine Pace race and fastest early speed in the field. He has the distance record and won his last start.
2. Reginetta (No.4) — $4.50 / $1.70
Bet Tracked
Prob 17.3% | Place: 38.8% | Value: 0.78x Steady since tip
Why A real chance — but at $1.70 the place the numbers don't give me enough edge to insure with. Watching, not betting.
3. Harbour Rise (No.3) — $4.60 / $1.70
Bet Tracked
Prob 15.8% | Place: 38.8% | Value: 0.73x Steady since tip
Why MIDFIELD with a good track record and a win on soft ground, but the price doesn't pay enough to get a bet.

Roughie: Invincible Ruby (No.8) — $23.00 / $3.90
Bet Tracked
Prob 2.7% | Place: 9.8% | Value: 0.61x Steady since tip
Why 111 days off, so it's a first-up run for her, but she has a first-up record of 6 starts with 1 win. Blinkers on for the first time and 2 wins from 17 at this track. If the front two go too hard, she is the one to run down.

Race 6 – Glenroy Chaff Hcp (C3)

Race type: Class 3, 1400m
Map & tempo: Moderate Pace. LEADERS: King Of The Town and Polyvanova. ON-PACE: Jackpot Bingo and Nickelplay. MIDFIELD: Seven Candles, Spank Appeal, Leetron, Empire Of Rome and Mean Feat. BACKMARKER: Cavallo Red and Centre Bond. Centre Bond and Spank Appeal have the pace advantage.
Punty read: No locked selections for this race, so there is no bet here. The two leaders in King Of The Town and Polyvanova will set the tempo, and the midfield of seven will decide the result. Nickelplay has the ON-PACE run and a bad record in the disadvantage group on the map, so he is the one to watch if the leaders hold on. Cavallo Red has been a bit unlucky and has the lugging bit on for the first time, so he is one for the watching brief.

Top 3 + Roughie: No picks locked for this race. No bet.

Race 7 – Liquor Barons

Race type: Rst 0 Met Win-LY, 1200m
Map & tempo: Moderate Pace. No LEADER on the map. ON-PACE: Bannered, Saturday Sesh, Surround Me and Lieutenant Dunbar. MIDFIELD: Strideaway, Dreamers Never Die, Romming Danger and Slick. BACKMARKER: Scully, Wicked Venom, High Pressure and Jelly Can Run. Scully, Wicked Venom and Dreamers Never Die have the pace advantage.
Punty read: No locked selections for this race, so there is no bet here. Strideaway has the blinkers on for the first time from the midfield and is the one to watch in this field. Scully has the pace advantage on the map and the market has him as a sharp price, but there is no price in the data for me to bet on. Slick is first-up after 62 days off, so the freshness question is real.

Top 3 + Roughie: No picks locked for this race. No bet.

SEQUENCE LANES

The pre-built sequence ticket for the quaddie (R4 to R7) is not in the data for today, so there is no ticket to print. Leave the sequence alone and back the singles.

NUGGETS FROM THE TRACK

1 - Artie's Storm's blinkers come off
Blinkers: OFF (first time) for Artie's Storm in R3, and the market has moved from $4.40 into $3.80. Her 2nd-up record is 2 starts with 1 win, so watch the market through the day.
2 - Levati Dimezzo's near misses
Career: 4: 0-3-0 and Good: 4:0-3-0. He has run second three times in a row without a win, and the place is the bet.
3 - Reginetta's winning streak
Three straight wins, the same as a sequel nobody asked for but everyone is still watching. Jason Whiting gets the ride and she carries 3kg more than last start.

FINAL WORD FROM THE SICKO SANCTUARY

Enjoy the cold, the mud and the stats, Degenerates. Nothing in this mail is a promise, so get the tickets on your terms and keep the stakes in your pocket where they belong.
