Rightio Ratbags, seven races on a Soft 5 at Murray Bridge with the rail at +11m Entire and a gusty overcast afternoon waiting. Three races have a lone leader or three crowding the front, which means the pace is the story. Grab a coffee, grab a pen, and don't go near the Race 1 favourite without reading this first.

MEET SNAPSHOT

Track: Murray Bridge GH, 1000m to 1800m card
Rail: +11m Entire
Official going: Soft 5 (Nil rain last 24hrs, 16mm last 7 days)
Weather: Overcast, gusts 33.3km/h
Early lane guess: unknown pre-race, watch the first two
Tempo profile: Race 1 is a Hot Pace with three leaders, Race 2 is Genuine Pace with Nunya on her own in front, Race 3 is Moderate, Race 4 is Genuine Pace with Kailee's Boy alone on the lead, Race 5 is Moderate with nobody on the lead, Race 6 is Hot Pace with three leaders and Race 7 is Genuine Pace with Holder Maid alone in front.
Jockeys to follow:
Alysha Warren: seven rides today, the most on the card, with Dedset Magic in Race 1, Kailee's Boy in Race 4 and Refreshing in Race 6 all worth a look.
Noel Callow: five rides, including Empire Ruler in Race 2 and Flying Ace in Race 6, and Flying Ace has a J@trk of 15.4% (604/3926) to back him up.
Jason Holder: four rides, including Aloha Blue in Race 5 and Nostryia in Race 7, two runners that sit midfield on the map and could run on late.
Stables to respect:
Aaron Bain & Ned Taylor (5 runners): Nunya, Shogun Chikara, Starscream, Nosie By Nature and Black Sea across Races 2, 3, 5 and 6, so they have a wide spread of chances.
M J Seyers (5 runners): Pretty Morsel, Secret Owl and Steely Miss in Race 3, plus Kailee's Boy in Race 4 and Let It Ride in Race 6, a stable with runners in the front half of the card.
Grant Young (4 runners): Dedset Magic in Race 1, The Tank in Race 4, and Shalhavmusik and Refreshing in Race 6, so they have a runner in the market and a second chance in the same race.

Punty's take: Right, let's talk about where the speed is, because that's the whole game at Murray Bridge today. Race 1 is a hot pace with three leaders in Katrina's Legacy, Champagne Ladies and Gartmorn's Girl all wanting the front, and that's a mad scramble that should soften up anything sitting handy. Race 2 is the opposite, with Nunya the only horse who wants to lead, which means she'll get a soft lead and the backmarkers have to earn their way into it. Race 3 is a moderate affair with Ashen Glow and Shogun Chikara the two leaders, and it's a proper jumble of midfielders with Pocket Pyro sitting in the thick of it. Race 4 is the one where Kailee's Boy has the front to himself, and the backmarkers who can get a clear run are the ones I'm watching. Race 5 has no leader on the card, so it's all about who settles and who doesn't. Race 6 is another hot pace with Enterprise Lassie, Flying Ace and Immortal Spirit all lining up to lead, which is a proper car crash in waiting. Race 7 has Holder Maid on her own in front, and that's a leader with no company, which is where the value might be hiding.

What it means for you: Be aggressive in Race 1 with Katrina's Legacy, because the price is short but the sectionals rate her and the market has backed her in. Race 2 is the one I'd be happy to get on at a bit of a price, with Empire Ruler sitting off the lone leader and a second last start, third last start second placings in her last three runs. Race 3 is a chaos race, so keep the stakes sensible and let Pocket Pyro do the heavy lifting. Race 4 is where I'm putting real money down on Oui Oui Ma Cherie, but the price is short and the weight jump is a warning. Race 5 is wide open so the stake there stays small. Race 6 is where Flying Ace earns his spot, and Race 7 is the most open race on the card, so it's the one where you protect yourself and let the each-way do its job.

PUNTY'S BIG 3 + MULTI

These are the three bets the day leans on.

1 - Katrina's Legacy (Race 1, No.2) — $1.60
Why The most likely winner on the card, the sectionals rate her fastest, and she ran 3rd at Balaklava 1000m last start. The hot pace is the worry, but the price says the market agrees with me.
2 - Empire Ruler (Race 2, No.2) — $1.80
Why Second at Strathalbyn, Gawler and Balaklava in her last three starts, and she sits behind the lone leader Nunya in a genuine pace race she should be suited by.
3 - Oui Oui Ma Cherie (Race 4, No.3) — $2.75
Why She's a backmarker with the pace advantage in a race where Kailee's Boy has the front to himself. Her last start was 6th at Morphettville 1200m, but she won at Morphettville Parks 1000m before that, and the 6kg jump is the one thing I'd watch.
Multi (all three to win): $10 × 7.92 = $79.20

Race 1 – Norma & Bushman's Tanks Mdn Plate

Race type: Maiden, 1000m
Map & tempo: Hot Pace. Leaders: Katrina's Legacy (No.2, LEADER), Champagne Ladies (No.5, LEADER), Gartmorn's Girl (No.6, LEADER). ON-PACE: Dedset Magic (No.1), Mr Kimble (No.3), Out Ontario (No.7). MIDFIELD: Reward Drawer (No.8). Map unknown for Powder Guy (No.4), so I'm not claiming a position for him.
Punty read: Katrina's Legacy is the bet, $15.00 win at $1.60, and the way I read it she's the horse to beat even with the hot pace working against her with a 0.79 map factor. The pace map says she has to get through two other leaders to win, which is a real ask, but her sectionals rate her fastest and she's been 3rd at Balaklava 1000m last start. Mr Kimble is the one sitting on the speed behind the leaders with a 5th at Murray Bridge GH 1200m last start with the excuse of wide running and a slow start, so he's the danger if the leaders blow up. Champagne Ladies has the 11th at Ballarat Synthetic where she raced wide, and she's a leader in a hot pace, which is a bit of a risk. Out Ontario is one to watch on the back of a 4th at Balaklava 1050m with a slow start, and Blinkers go on first time.

Top 3 + Roughie ($15.00 pool)

1. Katrina's Legacy (No.2) — $1.60 / $1.01
Bet $15.00 Win, return $24.00
Prob 53.6% | Place: 70.0% | Value: 0.86x Steady since tip
Why Short, but she's the class horse on the card and the sectionals rate her fastest. Ear muffs go on first time today, so keep an eye on that.
2. Mr Kimble (No.3) — $3.30 / $1.17
Bet Tracked
Prob 20.1% | Place: 70.0% | Value: 0.66x Steady since tip
Why A real chance — but at $1.17 the place the numbers don't give me enough edge to insure with. Watching, not betting.
3. Powder Guy (No.4) — $10.00 / $2.20
Bet Tracked
Prob 8.6% | Place: 45.9% | Value: 0.86x Steady since tip
Why No map position in the data, so I can't say where he sits, but he's a longer price with a jockey on the card who has a combo of 20% at this track on a small sample.

Roughie: Out Ontario (No.7) — $11.00 / $2.35
Bet Tracked
Prob 6.7% | Place: 34.4% | Value: 0.74x Steady since tip
Why Blinkers go on first time and he's been held up by slow starts and interference at Murray Bridge. If the hot pace takes the leaders apart, a horse on the speed can pick up the pieces.

Race 2 – Coonara Mdn Plate

Race type: Maiden, 1800m
Map & tempo: Genuine Pace. Leader: Nunya (No.5, LEADER). ON-PACE: Ateyate (No.1), Swan Dance (No.11). BACKMARKER: Empire Ruler (No.2), Majestic Moshe (No.4), Ochre Spirit (No.6), Taajwar (No.7), Emberance (No.8), In Private (No.9). MIDFIELD: If You Don't Mind (No.3), Majestic Glow (No.10).
Punty read: Empire Ruler is the bet, $10.50 win at $1.80. He's a backmarker in a race where Nunya is on her own in front, so the pace map sets up for a closer with a bit of stamina. Empire Ruler has finished second in each of his last three starts at Strathalbyn, Gawler and Balaklava, which is the sort of form you can build a bet around. Ateyate is the one most likely to sit handy behind the leader and the roughie I've picked, while Swan Dance sits on the speed with a 3rd at Balaklava 1300m last start. Nunya is the danger on the front, but a horse on her own in front at 1800m in a maiden with a 0.79 map factor is a horse I'd rather not chase.

Top 3 + Roughie ($10.50 pool)

1. Empire Ruler (No.2) — $1.80 / $1.09
Bet $10.50 Win, return $18.90
Prob 45.8% | Place: 70.0% | Value: 0.82x Steady since tip
Why Three seconds in his last three starts and a backmarker behind a lone leader. The stamina of 1800m is the right test for him.
2. Nunya (No.5) — $3.20 / $1.37
Bet Tracked
Prob 18.1% | Place: 70.0% | Value: 0.58x Steady since tip
Why A real chance — but at $1.37 the place the numbers don't give me enough edge to insure with. Watching, not betting.
3. Swan Dance (No.11) — $6.00 / $1.80
Bet Tracked
Prob 12.4% | Place: 48.8% | Value: 0.74x Steady since tip
Why Sits on the speed and has the cross-over nose band and tongue tie on first time. He's a danger if the lone leader stops, but the map factor says he's on the wrong end of the pace.

Roughie: Ateyate (No.1) — $9.00 / $2.45
Bet Tracked
Prob 7.3% | Place: 34.1% | Value: 0.65x Steady since tip
Why He's on the speed behind a lone leader and his excuses are a bump at Gawler 1719m and being held up at Ballarat 2600m. A place bet covers the risk of him falling just short.

Race 3 – Team Poly Tanks Mdn Plate

Race type: Maiden, 1400m
Map & tempo: Moderate Pace. Leaders: Ashen Glow (No.1, LEADER), Shogun Chikara (No.4, LEADER). ON-PACE: St Dominic (No.5), Pretty Morsel (No.11), Secret Owl (No.12), Never Pegasus (No.15). MIDFIELD: Tassoro (No.7), Grand Millesime (No.9), Ludina (No.10), Pocket Pyro (No.13). BACKMARKER: Atticusspartacus (No.2), Gingerbread Boy (No.3), Starscream (No.6), Amara Mae (No.8), Steely Miss (No.14).
Punty read: Pocket Pyro is the bet, $13.00 win at $2.40. He's a midfielder in a moderate race, so he's got room to settle and pounce when the two leaders stop running. He's firmed from $2.80 to $2.40, the market is backing him, and his last start was a 2nd at Balaklava 1300m with a time that's shown as fastest. The danger is Grand Millesime sitting midfield with his own good strike rate here, and Never Pegasus on the speed with a 2nd at Penola last start. Shogun Chikara is the one who might get tired if the moderate pace stays slow, and Tassoro is the roughie with gear changes that could help if the midfield gets racing.

Top 3 + Roughie ($13.00 pool)

1. Pocket Pyro (No.13) — $2.40 / $1.32
Bet $13.00 Win, return $31.20
Prob 21.8% | Place: 60.9% | Value: 0.52x Steady since tip
Why He's been backed from $2.80 into $2.40, a midfielder in a moderate race with a time shown as fastest. Rochelle Milnes rides with a combo of 22.2% (4/18) with Jake Stephens' stable.
2. Grand Millesime (No.9) — $6.00 / $2.20
Bet Tracked
Prob 16.8% | Place: 46.1% | Value: 1.01x Steady since tip
Why A real chance — but at $2.20 the place the numbers don't give me enough edge to insure with. Watching, not betting.
3. Shogun Chikara (No.4) — $4.40 / $1.75
Bet Tracked
Prob 15.4% | Place: 46.1% | Value: 0.68x Steady since tip
Why One of the two leaders and a 2nd at Gawler 1516m last start, so he'll set the tempo. A moderate pace helps him but the rest of the field wants to run him down.

Roughie: Tassoro (No.7) — $15.00 / $3.60
Bet Tracked
Prob 6.9% | Place: 29.3% | Value: 1.04x Steady since tip
Why Cross-over nose band goes on again and lugging bit on first time, with two excuses of bumping and raced wide last start. He's midfield in a moderate race, and if the midfield gets racing he's got the stamina to pick off the tired leaders.

Race 4 – Davey Water Hcp (C2)

Race type: Class 2, 1400m
Map & tempo: Genuine Pace. Leader: Kailee's Boy (No.7, LEADER). ON-PACE: Safe Bet (No.1), Je City (No.2), The Tank (No.9). BACKMARKER: Oui Oui Ma Cherie (No.3), Royal Muse (No.5), Lunarshot (No.8). MIDFIELD: Rocktagon (No.4), Fiorente Rules (No.6), Dodd (No.10), Togetherforever (No.11).
Punty read: Oui Oui Ma Cherie is the bet, $10.50 win at $2.75. She's a backmarker with the pace advantage, and Kailee's Boy has the front to himself, so the race is set for a closer who can run on. She won at Morphettville Parks 1000m before her 6th at Morphettville last start, and her track record of 3:1-0-1 means she's been placed here before. The 6kg jump is the one thing to watch, and the winkers and kyneton nose band go on first time. Safe Bet is the danger on the speed, with a 2nd and 3rd in his recent runs, and Fiorente Rules is the midfield horse who can run on if the leader tires.

Top 3 + Roughie ($10.50 pool)

1. Oui Oui Ma Cherie (No.3) — $2.80 / $1.45
Bet $10.50 Win, return $29.40
Prob 26.7% | Place: 58.7% | Value: 0.75x Steady since tip
Why Backmarker with the pace advantage behind a lone leader, with a track record of 3:1-0-1 at this venue. The weight jump is the question, but she's the one in the field who gets the run she wants.
2. Safe Bet (No.1) — $5.00 / $1.95
Bet Tracked
Prob 14.3% | Place: 46.1% | Value: 0.72x Steady since tip
Why A real chance — but at $1.95 the place the numbers don't give me enough edge to insure with. Watching, not betting.
3. Fiorente Rules (No.6) — $7.00 / $2.50
Bet Tracked
Prob 11.5% | Place: 38.8% | Value: 0.81x Steady since tip
Why Midfield with a 2 wins from 13 record and the sectional rank of 2 on L600 that suggests he's got a finishing kick if the leader tires.

Roughie: Lunarshot (No.8) — $10.00 / $3.00
Bet Tracked
Prob 9.8% | Place: 34.1% | Value: 0.98x Steady since tip
Why Backmarker behind a lone leader with a 2 wins from 25 record and a track record of 1 win from 3 at Murray Bridge GH. The problem is the 0/4 at 56-58kg warning, so he's a risk.

Race 5 – Vinidex & Philmac Hcp (60)

Race type: Restricted 60, 1200m
Map & tempo: Moderate Pace. No leader on the card. ON-PACE: Nosie By Nature (No.2), Shaddap (No.3), Zestiman (No.4), Taking Omaha (No.5), Greatestofease (No.13). MIDFIELD: Nicaloha (No.1), Angelic Appeal (No.6), Brazen Queen (No.8), Aloha Blue (No.9), Outpost (No.10), Sunset Prayer (No.11). BACKMARKER: Startide (No.12).
Punty read: Taking Omaha is the bet, $7.00 win at $5.00. He's on the speed in a moderate race with no leader on the card, so he'll get a nice trip sitting in the first three. The visors go on first time, and his 13th at Morphettville 1200m last start is a bad run with no excuse listed, so I'm not pretending that didn't happen. His 2nd at Morphettville Parks 1000m before that is the better form. Zestiman is the danger on the speed with a 3rd at Balaklava 1200m, and Nicaloha in the midfield has the strongest place value on the card. This is a wide-open race with nothing above 15%, so the stake stays small.

Top 3 + Roughie ($7.00 pool)

1. Taking Omaha (No.5) — $5.00 / $2.00
Bet $7.00 Win, return $35.00
Prob 14.8% | Place: 46.1% | Value: 0.74x Steady since tip
Why On the speed in a moderate race with visors going on first time. His last start was poor but the run before it was a 2nd at Morphettville Parks, so there's a bit of form to chase.
2. Zestiman (No.4) — $5.00 / $2.00
Bet Tracked
Prob 13.6% | Place: 46.1% | Value: 0.68x Steady since tip
Why A real chance — but at $2.00 the place the numbers don't give me enough edge to insure with. Watching, not betting.
3. Nicaloha (No.1) — $8.00 / $2.75
Bet Tracked
Prob 11.7% | Place: 28.1% | Value: 0.94x Steady since tip
Why Midfield with a 1st and a 3rd at Mt Gambier 1200m in his last two starts, and his weight jump of 4kg is a question.

Roughie: Angelic Appeal (No.6) — $11.00 / $3.10
Bet Tracked
Prob 6.4% | Place: 24.4% | Value: 0.71x Steady since tip
Why Winkers go off first time and she's a midfielder in a moderate race with a 1st-up record of 3:0-1-1. She's been out for 255 days, so she's a cold chance, but the midfield in a moderate race gives her a sniff.

Race 6 – DAB Pumps (Bm58)

Race type: Benchmark 58, 1400m
Map & tempo: Hot Pace. Leaders: Enterprise Lassie (No.2, LEADER), Flying Ace (No.3, LEADER), Immortal Spirit (No.5, LEADER). ON-PACE: Let It Ride (No.6), Refreshing (No.11). MIDFIELD: Frontpoint (No.4), Black Sea (No.7), Saint Boom (No.8), Shalhavmusik (No.9), Deficit (No.10), Cowley's Creek (No.12). BACKMARKER: Demiquaver (No.1).
Punty read: Flying Ace is the bet, $10.50 win at $4.20. He's one of three leaders in a hot pace, so he'll have to be good, and the 0.85 map factor says the pace works against him. What he has is form: a 1st at Morphettville Parks 1000m and a 6th at Gawler last start, and he has won 4 from 38 starts with a track record of 6 placings at 1400m and beyond. Shalhavmusik is the midfielder who should run on through the leaders if they go too hard. Frontpoint has a 1st at Strathalbyn 1350m two starts back and a 4th last start with a raced wide excuse. Saint Boom is the advantaged midfielder, but his weight warning of 0/2 at 60kg is a question.

Top 3 + Roughie ($10.50 pool)

1. Flying Ace (No.3) — $4.20 / $1.80
Bet $10.50 Win, return $44.10
Prob 23.5% | Place: 61.5% | Value: 0.99x Steady since tip
Why One of three leaders in a hot pace, which is a risk, but his 4 wins from 38 starts and six placings at this distance are the best of the group. Noel Callow rides him with a J@trk of 15.4% (604/3926).
2. Frontpoint (No.4) — $4.40 / $1.85
Bet Tracked
Prob 15.6% | Place: 45.1% | Value: 0.69x Steady since tip
Why A real chance — but at $1.85 the place the numbers don't give me enough edge to insure with. Watching, not betting.
3. Shalhavmusik (No.9) — $4.50 / $1.85
Bet Tracked
Prob 12.3% | Place: 46.1% | Value: 0.55x Steady since tip
Why Midfield in a hot pace, with a 1st at Gawler 1516m last start and the sectional rank of 2 on L600 and L400. He's the one who runs on if the leaders collapse.

Roughie: Immortal Spirit (No.5) — $9.00 / $2.90
Bet Tracked
Prob 8.7% | Place: 32.7% | Value: 0.78x Steady since tip
Why He's a leader in a hot pace with a 1st at Halidon 1380m and a 1st at Balaklava 1400m in his last two starts. If the other two leaders go too hard, he can finish in front on the back of his own speed.

Race 7 – Orange Pumps & AAP Industries (Bm56)

Race type: Benchmark 56, 1000m
Map & tempo: Genuine Pace. Leader: Holder Maid (No.9, LEADER). ON-PACE: Super Choice (No.2), Old Time Rock (No.4), Chilli Reaper (No.7), Magic Field (No.8), He's A Cool Cat (No.13). MIDFIELD: Nostryia (No.1), Eclair Vitality (No.3), Welcome Gypsy (No.10), Jasstar (No.11), Magna Torino (No.12), Rich Lady (No.14), Prancethrulife (No.15). BACKMARKER: Captainwackydoodle (No.6). Map unknown for Suits (No.5), so I'm not claiming a position for him.
Punty read: Chilli Reaper is the bet, $8.50 each way ($4.25W + $4.25P) at $5.50. He's on the speed behind a lone leader in Holder Maid, and the tongue tie goes on first time. He's won 2 from 11 with 2 placings, and his last start was a win at Mt Gambier 900m. Super Choice on the speed is the danger with a 4th at Gawler last start, and Eclair Vitality is the midfielder who can run on. Holder Maid has the front alone with a 0.79 map factor, so the pace is against her. Chilli Reaper is the most likely of the lot to be in the finish, which is why he's the each way.

Top 3 + Roughie ($8.50 pool)

1. Chilli Reaper (No.7) — $5.50 / $2.15
Bet $8.50 Each Way ($4.25W + $4.25P), collects $32.52 if it wins ($23.38 win + $9.14 place), $9.14 if it only places
Prob 15.8% | Place: 38.9% | Value: 0.87x Steady since tip
Why On the speed behind a lone leader, with a win last start at Mt Gambier 900m and the tongue tie going on first time. Jacob Opperman rides with a J@trk of 13.5% (390/2880).
2. Super Choice (No.2) — $4.80 / $1.90
Bet Tracked
Prob 15.0% | Place: 38.9% | Value: 0.72x Steady since tip
Why The top pick's each-way already covers the place angle here — doubling up is paying twice for the same insurance. Tracked instead.
3. Eclair Vitality (No.3) — $5.00 / $2.00
Bet Tracked
Prob 11.7% | Place: 34.1% | Value: 0.58x Steady since tip
Why Midfield with a 1st at Jamestown 1000m last start, and the sectional rank of 2 on L600 suggests she can run on in the straight.

Roughie: Suits (No.5) — $9.50 / $3.10
Bet Tracked
Prob 7.4% | Place: 27.8% | Value: 0.71x Steady since tip
Why Map position unknown, so he's a fair bit of a question mark, but his distance record of 3:3-1-0 over 10 starts and a 1st-up record of 3:0-0-0 are the two things to chase. He's a roughie for the place if the speed collapses.

SEQUENCE LANES

QUADDIE (R4–R7)

Smart: 3,1,6,8 / 4,5,1 / 3,9,4 / 2,7,3,5 (144 combos x $0.3472 = $50.00) -- 34.7% flexi
Punty's take: Race 4 and Race 5 are the wide legs with four runners each, and Race 6 and Race 7 are three runner legs that are tighter than they look. The flexi is 34.7% against a minimum of 30%, and the risk is high, so this is a sensible bet on the back of a cheap entry but the payout depends on a $5 to $10 winner somewhere in those four races.

NUGGETS FROM THE TRACK

1 - Blinkers and a tongue tie for Dedset Magic
Dedset Magic goes into blinkers and a tongue tie for the first time today, and he's 0-0-0 from three career starts. Watch the market before you touch him.
2 - Oui Oui Ma Cherie's weight and gear
Oui Oui Ma Cherie is 6kg up from last start and her record is best at lighter weights, while the winkers and kyneton nose band go on first time. The track record of 3:1-0-1 is the reason she's still the pick.
3 - Gartmorn's Girl on the market
Gartmorn's Girl has been backed from $101.00 to $51.00 in Race 1, a market move that says someone knows something. I can't see why from the data, so you can make up your own mind on the price.

FINAL WORD FROM THE SICKO SANCTUARY

Soft ground, a hot pace in two races, and a Quaddie that's wider than my patience. Be sharp with the stakes, back the horses I've named, and don't chase a loss on a Race 5 bloke who ran 13th last start.
