Catanach's Jewellers MRC150 Partner (Bm74)
1100m · Benchmark 74; · 12:25
✗ MISS -$15 Final

Race type: Benchmark 74, 1100m
Map & tempo: Hot pace with leaders going hard, expect pressure and a short sprint finish
Punty read: This is a "leaders won't stop" kind of 1100m. Educated is the likely pick, but the soft track at Caulfield means you can get those sneaky runners who sit closer than you think and suddenly they're in range on the line. Savoyard is the value play because he's the sort that can run a cheeky place even if the speed goes harder than planned. Behaviour is the other danger, that's a typical "slow away, then hit the line late" story that plays nice for each-way punters.

Top 3 + Roughie ($15.00 pool)

1. Educated (No.9) — $2.92 / $1.40 🏆 2ND
Bet $15.00 Win — ✗ Lost, net -$15.00
Prob 25.7% | Place: 69.0% | Value: 0.88x
Why Clean win profile in a short sprint where speed is sticky, and the on-pace map gives it every chance to hit the line.

2. Savoyard (No.12) — $7.30 / $2.50 🏆 7TH
Bet Tracked
Prob 15.6% | Place: 68.0% | Value: 1.33x
Why A real chance — but at $2.50 the place he's not a saver, he's a punt, and that's not a price I insure at. Watching, not betting.

3. Behaviour (No.4) — $7.85 / $2.55 🏆 3RD
Bet Tracked
Prob 13.8% | Place: 47.0% | Value: 1.26x
Why Slow away last time but got into it, on a Soft 7 that can be enough to ping late and pick up a place.

Roughie: Fundamental Nature (No.10) — $9.10 / $2.75 🏆 WINNER

Remembering Diatribe (Bm78)
2000m · Benchmark 78; · 13:00
✗ MISS -$15 Final

Race type: Benchmark 78, 2000m
Map & tempo: Moderate pace, so the game becomes timing and position on Soft
Punty read: This one is about who can sit close without burning matches. Simurgh is the favourite for a reason, but it's still a chaos handicap because you get leaders that can survive a long way and challengers that improve out of the mud. Amleto is the value play because the draw and on-pace style gives you a realistic shot at being in the first few without needing a miracle. Federer is the one I treat as a pass, because the price is doing too much and I'd rather have the lanes that keep paying you back.

Top 3 + Roughie ($15.00 pool)

1. Simurgh (No.4) — $3.70 / $1.60 🏆 10TH
Bet $10.00 Win — ✗ Lost, net -$10.00
Prob 26.4% | Place: 69.0% | Value: 1.16x
Why The on-pace map makes sense in Soft 2000m, and Craig Williams types usually don't miss when it's their race.

2. Amleto (No.2) — $4.75 / $1.90 🏆 6TH
Bet $5.00 Place — ✗ Lost, net -$5.00
Prob 19.7% | Place: 47.0% | Value: 1.11x
Why If it's within striking distance turning, it should keep chewing through the straight.

3. Federer (No.6) — $5.25 / $1.95 🏆 8TH
Bet Tracked
Prob 13.2% | Place: 47.0% | Value: 0.82x
Why Looks like it'll be competitive, but value's missing and the place price isn't doing it for me.

Roughie: Leonchroi (No.17) — $11.25 / $3.50 🏆 11TH

Prob 9.2% | Place: 29.0% | Value: 1.23x

R3
Brian Markovic Memorial (Bm78)
1400m · Benchmark 78; · 13:35
✗ MISS -$10 Final

Race type: Benchmark 78, 1400m
Map & tempo: Moderate pace, this turns into a "run on and keep using the legs" race
Punty read: Silent Shares is the one I want, because it's the sort that can sit in range and just keep rolling, especially on soft where the ground can steal late bursts but not honest runs. Butternut Princess has the right runner vibe too, it's likely to be running on rather than sprinting once and done. Missapprehend is the value-or-bust kind, but if it's going to win, it's got to be sharp early.

Top 3 + Roughie ($10.50 pool)

1. Silent Shares (No.1) — $5.10 / $1.95 🏆 9TH
Bet $10.50 Win — ✗ Lost, net -$10.50
Prob 24.5% | Place: 69.0% | Value: 1.48x
Why Softer tracks make it harder for big closers, Silent Shares has the class and the positioning to stay involved.

2. Butternut Princess (No.3) — $9.35 / $2.90 🏆 3RD
Bet Tracked
Prob 12.1% | Place: 56.2% | Value: 1.33x
Why A real chance — but at $2.90 the place he's not a saver, he's a punt, and that's not a price I insure at. Watching, not betting.

3. Missapprehend (No.14) — $4.05 / $1.72 🏆 10TH
Bet Tracked
Prob 10.9% | Place: 47.0% | Value: 0.52x
Why Too short to back and the market's already screaming for it, so I'm just watching it do its thing.

Sportsbet More Places (Bm90)
1400m · Benchmark 90; · 14:10
✗ MISS -$10 Final

Race type: Benchmark 90, 1400m
Map & tempo: Moderate pace, so on-pace and mid-pack movers get to keep momentum
Punty read: This is a proper betting race because the map is clear. Duchess Zou should get a lovely run, and with the Soft 7, the on-pace runners can keep their legs moving instead of fading into a swamp. Elouyou looks like the classic "stays in play" type, and Boltsaver is the wildcard who can spring a place dividend if it keeps finding enough when asked.

Top 3 + Roughie ($10.50 pool)

1. Duchess Zou (No.2) — $3.70 / $1.57 🏆 8TH
Bet $10.50 Win — ✗ Lost, net -$10.50
Prob 30.7% | Place: 69.0% | Value: 1.31x
Why In-form mare with the on-pace style that suits Soft 7 at 1400m, and the race shape screams "don't get cute".

2. Elouyou (No.6) — $6.55 / $2.20 🏆 5TH
Bet Tracked
Prob 16.5% | Place: 58.8% | Value: 1.25x

3. Ten Commandments (No.4) — $4.50 / $1.65 🏆 WINNER
Bet Tracked
Prob 12.4% | Place: 29.0% | Value: 0.64x
Why Pace map is okay, but you're buying a price that doesn't pay enough if it only grabs a slice.

Tobin Brothers Vain Stakes
1100m · Open; · 14:45
✗ MISS -$18 Final

Race type: Open, 1100m
Map & tempo: Hot pace, leaders get the best ride, this is sprint map territory
Punty read: Closer To Free is the kind of horse that wins races by being in charge of the tempo, and on Soft 7 you still want to be doing that, because a sloppy track punishes the ones who are forced to make up ground late. Tornado Valley is the value route because if the favourite does the lead job properly, the second-placers get juicy. Hard Kick is the "could be good" leader, but the best bet is still to respect the map and go with the better lane.

Top 3 + Roughie ($18.50 pool)

1. Closer To Free (No.2) — $2.70 / $1.22 🏆 5TH
Bet $12.00 Win — ✗ Lost, net -$12.00
Prob 33.6% | Place: 69.0% | Value: 1.03x
Why Drawn to hold it together, on-pace speed and a Soft 1100 makes "lead and keep going" the winning play.

2. Tornado Valley (No.1) — $6.20 / $1.90 🏆 7TH
Bet $6.50 Place — ✗ Lost, net -$6.50
Prob 19.5% | Place: 59.0% | Value: 1.38x

✓ WON +$36 Final

Race type: Open, 1100m
Map & tempo: Moderate pace, on-pace horses should get first run at the finish
Punty read: Natural Fling is short-ish but not the one I love at $2.71 in a chaotic open sprint, because Soft 7 can turn the race into a timing lottery. Lara Antipova is the danger because it's unbeaten-ish and the gear intro makes sense for the debut-style readiness. Riverina Lulu is a value place with the right style.

Top 3 + Roughie ($19.50 pool)

1. Natural Fling (No.5) — $2.71 / $1.40 🏆 WINNER
Bet $12.00 Win — ✓ Won, net +$20.52
Prob 23.9% | Place: 69.0% | Value: 0.78x

✗ MISS -$15 Final

Race type: Open, 1400m
Map & tempo: Moderate tempo, on-pace runners get a chance to set it up and still finish
Punty read: Private Eye and Cosmic Crusader are the "they're hard to keep out" types, but Evaporate is the value swing because it has the run-on profile and it's coming in with momentum. This is where you can bet on the right speed map and not get dragged into the deep end of the market. Coeur Volante is the roughie I keep for the upset storyline.

Top 3 + Roughie ($15.00 pool)

✗ MISS -$10 Final

Race type: Open, 1200m
Map & tempo: Moderate pace, but with 1200m the stalkers and on-pace runners should get first crack at the line
Punty read: This is a real open bunch, but Arkansaw Kid and Warnie are the ones I circle because they can give you a real race from the start. Recommendation looks like the danger because it's been on the speed and keeps showing up, but you can get caught overthinking at 1200m, just pick the ones with the most stable run patterns. Asakura is there for the chaos if the race falls apart.

Top 3 + Roughie ($10.50 pool)

1. Arkansaw Kid (No.1) — $6.60 / $2.25 🏆 UNPLACED

✗ MISS -$10 Final

Race type: Benchmark 100, 1600m
Map & tempo: Moderate pace, so the best 1600m runner is the one that can stay efficient in the first half
Punty read: Light Infantry Man is a standout, it's the right sort of profile for this track. Machine Gun Gracie can absolutely run into the trifecta picture if it gets its run, but I'm comfortable going with the clear lead-in winner and a couple of sensible place protectors. Darkbonee is short enough that it can be a trap, but its profile does back the claims.

Top 3 + Roughie ($10.50 pool)

Punty's Early Mail

Rightio Loose Units, Caulfield on a Soft 7 with the rail jammed True Entire Circuit, where speed will survive but only the real ones, the finish straight breeze is a bit of a bully, and the whole day smells like "place in the right spot or get smoked".

There's a theme today, you can feel it in your bones, the on-pace runners are getting first dibs because the wind is helping sprinters in the run-in and punishing late swoopers. It's the classic Caulfield thing, rail true so you can't go chasing rainbows wide for fun unless you've got a map that says you can. Watch the leaders, watch them again, and if the market backs one with intent, I'm leaning in like it owes me money.

My Big 3 spine is built for this exact sort of meeting. Race 4 has the class and the rhythm, Race 5 is where the sprint specialists rack up the hits, and Race 9 is a proper "turn the key, here comes the engine" job. If you nail those, the rest of the card turns into profit-flavoured chaos.

MEET SNAPSHOT

Track: Soft 7, 1100-1600m card
Rail: True Entire Circuit
Official going: Soft 7 (expected to play Early Speed biased)
Weather: Partly cloudy, 12°C, wind 13km/h S, light headwind up the straight (watch for Speed holds, less for late closers)
Early lane guess: Leaders and stalkers hold the keys early, especially in the shorter races
Tempo profile: Hot sprints early pressure, then the middle distance tends to turn into a long sprint, on-pace gives you the best shot
Jockeys to follow:
Damian Lane: rides to the map and keeps horses working, especially around turning races on soft.
Blake Shinn: gets them to the right part of the track and times it like he's late for a footy match.
Ethan Brown: consistent with on-pace positioning, handy in fields where timing matters.
Stables to respect:
C Maher (7 runners): repeatedly shows up with the "this is our race" types, especially at Caulfield distances.
L & T Corstens & W Larkin (2 runners): their horses are often ready to roll, and they don't waste trips in the wet.
Ben, Will & Jd Hayes (3 runners): sharp preps and gear tweaks that line up with the race shape.

Punty's take:

Caulfield Soft 7 with a light breeze straight up, it's a "don't get lost" track. If you're off the speed, you're relying on the leaders to collapse like a bad sitcom plot twist. Most of the day is built on speed maps and where horses are forced to race. I want runners who can hold position, then they can keep going when the wind comes into play.

Race 1 is a bunch of value chaos around a couple of leaders, but the real danger is the close-in group that can hit the line through traffic. Race 2 is a classic chaos handicap where the favourite is dangerous, but the best plays are the ones with the pace to keep things simple. Race 4 and Race 5 are where you can actually be bold, the on-pacers look like they'll get the run they need.

Race 8 is a proper open bunch, and that's where punters either clean up or donate to the TAB gods. Race 9 is the one I'd sleep better backing, because the favourite profile is real, and the "staying power" types should earn their keep without needing a miracle.

What it means for you:

My game plan today is aggression early in the races that suit it, especially Race 4, 5, and 9. I'm backing leaders, or horses that can stalk without getting trapped in the mud. If a horse is drawn awkward but has the speed profile, I'll still consider it, because Soft 7 at Caulfield can turn into a position sprint, not a pure slog.

For your bet management: don't overreact to the drifters in the short races. If the speed profile says they can hold, they can still run a place. But if the horse is a confirmed finisher and the map makes them work off the bridle, the finish straight wind will bully them. Keep your roughies honest, they need either a pace collapse or a perfect run, not vibes.
