Punty's Punts
Race type: MAIDEN HCP, 1600m
Map & tempo: Slow Pace, leaders favoured but a mishap costs ground at 1600m.
Punty read: This is a "where do you get running room" race. Emirate Star (No.3) is the obvious start-point, drawn close enough to sit in the fight. Flying Arabesque (No.1) is the danger because even when luck goes missing, the shape says she can bounce back and find the right gap. Stay Quiet (No.7) has blinkers first time, which tells me connections want her switched on earlier, but this is still maiden territory, so I'm not getting too cute with stakes.
Top 3 + Roughie ($10.00 pool)
1. EMIRATE STAR (No.3) — $3.50 / $1.50 🏆 2ND
Bet $10.00 Each Way ($5.00W + $5.00P) — Cashed, net -$2.50
Prob 19.9% | Place: 46.9% | Value: 0.89x
Why Big market favourite, drawn to hold a midfield position and she looks the best "stable plan" in a slow tempo maiden.
2. STAY QUIET (No.7) — $5.00 / $1.75 🏆 9TH
Bet Tracked
Prob 16.8% | Place: 40.2% | Value: 1.29x
Why The top pick's each-way already covers the place angle here — doubling up is paying twice for the same insurance. Tracked instead.
3. FLYING ARABESQUE (No.1) — $4.40 / $1.65 🏆 WINNER
Bet Tracked
Prob 16.7% | Place: 34.1% | Value: 1.25x
Why Held up last start is a real excuse, and she's the sort that can run on through the gaps once she gets clear.
Roughie: MY CARTOUCHE (No.5) — $12.00 / $3.00 🏆 4TH
Bet Tracked
Prob 9.6% | Place: 21.7% | Value: 1.22x
Why She's the "if the race goes wrong, she's there" type, but the tote has no romance for me today.
Race type: MAIDEN, 1000m
Map & tempo: Genuine Pace, the speed is real and the kick happens fast.
Punty read: This is a sprint where the early pattern matters more than your hopes and prayers. Rhythm of the Rein (No.8) is the cleanest map fit to get the right run, and Lady Talea (No.5) is the "on pace" menace from a gate that lets her have a go. THAT'SALLSHEWROTE (No.11) has the sort of profile that can slot in and grab a piece. I'm with Rhythm for place protection, and I'll respect Lady Talea as the alternate.
Top 3 + Roughie ($24.00 pool)
1. RHYTHM OF THE REIN (No.8) — $3.22 / $1.50 🏆 WINNER
Bet $20.00 Win — ✓ Won, net +$44.40
Prob 21.5% | Place: 65.4% | Value: 0.96x
Why The leaders are genuine, and this mare can stalk without getting bottled up, then run straight to the line.
2. LADY TALEA (No.5) — $4.15 / $1.62 🏆 5TH
Bet $4.00 Place — ✗ Lost, net -$4.00
Prob 20.9% | Place: 57.2% | Value: 0.80x
Why On pace with a forward draw, and the finish usually suits her style when the tempo stays honest.
3. THAT’SALLSHEWROTE (No.11) — $4.40 / $1.65 🏆 3RD
Bet Tracked
Prob 19.4% | Place: 61.0% | Value: 0.98x
Why If the speed splits, she can grab the third spot, but I'm not forcing it.
Roughie: CHATAIGNE (No.9) — $9.00 / $2.60 🏆 8TH
Bet Tracked
Prob 8.0% | Place: 28.1% | Value: 0.56x
Why Roughie path is real only if she holds her ground through the scramble, but I'm not paying for hope.
Race type: MAIDEN, 1200m
Map & tempo: Slow Pace, so positioning and a clean run to the straight matter.
Punty read: Schumacher (No.4) is the one with the "everything clicks" vibe, and she's drawn to be close enough to use the pace without needing magic. Andarna (No.11) is the danger if the inside holds and she gets a run through. Ho Aloha (No.13) is thereabouts too, but it's Schumacher's race to win unless she stumbles at the wrong time. That's why I'm treating this like a controlled burn.
Top 3 + Roughie ($24.00 pool)
1. SCHUMACHER (No.4) — $2.75 / $1.37 🏆 WINNER
Bet $20.00 Win — ✓ Won, net +$35.00
Prob 24.9% | Place: 67.6% | Value: 0.93x
Why Pace advantage helps her settle, gear gets her sharp, and at 1200m you want the horse that can hit the straight with options.
2. ANDARNA (No.11) — $5.30 / $2.10 🏆 8TH
Bet $4.00 Place — ✗ Lost, net -$4.00
Prob 15.1% | Place: 44.5% | Value: 0.72x
Why Back end of the race always gets packed, and her style suits taking a share when the leaders flatten.
3. Ho Aloha (No.13) — $6.35 / $2.25 🏆 2ND
Bet Tracked
Prob 11.5% | Place: 33.2% | Value: 0.92x
Why She's got claims, but I'd rather back the horses with the map and draw doing the legwork.
Roughie: Ancestral (No.12) — $9.80 / $2.80 🏆 6TH
Bet Tracked
Prob 9.4% | Place: 29.0% | Value: 1.18x
Why Roughie if she bursts late, but I'm not banking on late fireworks tonight.
Race type: CLASS 1, 1500m
Map & tempo: Slow Pace, more than speed, it's about who can sustain and keep balanced.
Punty read: Philatelic (No.3) looks the one they want to keep landing in the money. Orange Tsunami (No.2) is the value horse here, she's closer to the action and keeps finding. Velia (No.7) is the one to watch for a place if the race breaks up. I'm thinking this is a two-horse story for the win, with Velia and Iceford chasing the minor money depending on how the gap opens.
Top 3 + Roughie ($12.00 pool)
1. PHILATELIC (No.3) — $2.05 / $1.25 🏆 3RD
Bet $12.00 Win — ✗ Lost, net -$12.00
Prob 33.2% | Place: 68.0% | Value: 0.85x
Why She's the class backbone, and with a slow tempo she's got time to let her acceleration do the work.
2. ORANGE TSUNAMI (No.2) — $3.10 / $1.60 🏆 WINNER
Bet Tracked
Prob 31.6% | Place: 68.5% | Value: 1.23x
Why Only two places paid in a field this size, and skinny place divvies make savers a mug's game — this is a win-only race. Tracked, not staked.
3. VELIA (No.7) — $6.50 / $2.65 🏆 4TH
Bet Tracked
Prob 13.2% | Place: 47.0% | Value: 1.08x
Why Could run into a place if the leaders get too tired, but win is a tougher ask.
Roughie: DECOTA (No.8) — $17.50 / $4.50 🏆 5TH
Bet Tracked
Prob 6.0% | Place: 17.3% | Value: 1.32x
Why Needs everything to go right and the gaps to appear like a magician's trick.
Race type: MAIDEN, 1400m
Map & tempo: Genuine Pace, which means backmarkers can still get squeezed.
Punty read: Hitch (No.11) and Stitzer (No.10) are the two you build the race around, and I'm not getting cute. Hitch looks like the one who can put herself in the right spot and then keep going, Stitzer is the grinder who can pick up through traffic. Cotoleta Cut (No.8) is the value rough chance if the pace softens late. This is one of those races where a clean run beats a clever run.
Top 3 + Roughie ($10.00 pool)
1. HITCH (No.11) — $2.08 / $1.14 🏆 WINNER
Bet $10.00 Win — ✓ Won, net +$10.80
Prob 33.6% | Place: 60.2% | Value: 1.18x
Why Front speed helps on this profile, and she's got the most reliable finishing line setup.
2. STITZER (No.10) — $2.80 / $1.30 🏆 11TH
Bet Tracked
Prob 32.4% | Place: 60.2% | Value: 1.14x
Why A real chance — but at $1.30 the place he's not a saver, he's a punt, and that's not a price I insure at. Watching, not betting.
3. COTOLETTA CUT (No.8) — $10.00 / $2.65 🏆 3RD
Bet Tracked
Prob 10.3% | Place: 21.0% | Value: 1.26x
Why Value is real, but you'd need the race to run exactly right for her to hit the line first.
Roughie: Unbridled Storm (No.15) — $10.10 / $2.80 🏆 2ND
Bet Tracked
Prob 7.2% | Place: 21.7% | Value: 1.24x
Why Roughie route is a tempo collapse and an inside run that springs her, otherwise she's got too much to do.
Race type: BENCHMARK 64, 1200m
Map & tempo: Slow Pace, but this one is a place-leverage grind.
Punty read: Seven Days (No.9) is short in the place sense, Denial (No.6) is your value place lever, and Me Me (No.10) can run into the money if she's not blocked. I'm treating this like a "pick the one that pays for being there" race, because win prices are tricky in provincial benchmarks when the field bunches.
Top 3 + Roughie ($8.50 pool)
1. SEVEN DAYS (No.9) — $2.80 / $1.32 🏆 2ND
Bet $8.50 Win — ✗ Lost, net -$8.50
Prob 17.9% | Place: 56.2% | Value: 0.63x
Why Clear pace positioning helps him survive the slow tempo, and he's got enough speed to keep close.
2. DENIAL (No.6) — $8.00 / $2.40 🏆 6TH
Bet Tracked
Prob 16.3% | Place: 40.3% | Value: 1.64x
Why A real chance — but at $2.40 the place he's not a saver, he's a punt, and that's not a price I insure at. Watching, not betting.
3. ME ME (No.10) — $3.70 / $1.55 🏆 WINNER
Bet Tracked
Prob 15.9% | Place: 55.0% | Value: 0.74x
Why Respect her, but I'm not overcommitting into a race that can bottle horses up.
Roughie: COMMANDING BELLE (No.2) — $9.00 / $2.55 🏆 8TH
Bet Tracked
Prob 7.9% | Place: 26.8% | Value: 0.89x
Why Needs a clean section to show up, but she can run on into the money if the field fans.
Race type: BENCHMARK 68, 1600m
Map & tempo: Moderate Pace, staying in the race early matters.
Punty read: Southerly Buster (No.2) is the one I want, she's the right profile for a 1600 where the fight starts mid-race. TavoLo (No.10) is the value squeeze runner, and Natural Ruler (No.1) is the danger if he gets too cosy early. This is a "don't let the big favourite look too unbeatable" race, so I'm landing on Southerly as the best blend of map and price.
Top 3 + Roughie ($13.00 pool)
1. SOUTHERLY BUSTER (No.2) — $3.90 / $1.72 🏆 2ND
Bet $13.00 Win — ✗ Lost, net -$13.00
Prob 23.5% | Place: 47.3% | Value: 1.21x
Why Perfect for a moderate pace, she can sit within striking distance and keep running, especially if the field doesn't blow out.
2. TAVOLO (No.10) — $9.20 / $3.00 🏆 UNPLACED
Bet Tracked
Prob 10.5% | Place: 37.2% | Value: 1.28x
Why A real chance — but at $3.00 the place he's not a saver, he's a punt, and that's not a price I insure at. Watching, not betting.
3. NATURAL RULER (No.1) — $3.80 / $1.70 🏆 WINNER
Bet Tracked
Prob 9.2% | Place: 21.4% | Value: 0.46x
Why He's got a chance, but the win price shape isn't paying for me today.
Roughie: ETCHED IN TIME (No.3) — $12.00 / $3.50 🏆 UNPLACED
Bet Tracked
Prob 7.2% | Place: 21.7% | Value: 1.15x
Why Roughie wins if he lands forward enough to avoid getting swamped, otherwise he's chasing gaps late.
Race type: BENCHMARK 64, 1000m
Map & tempo: Hot Pace, speed does the heavy lifting.
Punty read: This is a sprint where BORJNORD (No.7) has the best "I can go and be effective" story. At Her Mercy (No.5) is the classic on-pace threat but she's got to survive the scramble and the bumps in the first half. Misty Veil (No.8) is the place chance if the leaders start trading taps late. Aegipan (No.10) is the value chaos option, and Big Day Out (No.6) is always around late if the pace holds together.
Top 3 + Roughie ($10.50 pool)
1. BORJNORD (No.7) — $5.50 / $1.95 🏆 10TH
Bet $10.50 Each Way ($5.25W + $5.25P) — ✗ Lost, net -$10.50
Prob 20.3% | Place: 50.2% | Value: 1.39x
Why Pace works in her favour, and she's the type to keep a straight path through the front half and not get swallowed.
2. AT HER MERCY (No.5) — $3.42 / $1.55 🏆 7TH
Bet Tracked
Prob 16.5% | Place: 47.0% | Value: 0.70x
Why The top pick's each-way already covers the place angle here — doubling up is paying twice for the same insurance. Tracked instead.
3. MISTY VEIL (No.8) — $4.80 / $1.82 🏆 4TH
Bet Tracked
Prob 12.7% | Place: 47.0% | Value: 0.76x
Why Can run a cheeky race for the minors, but the place band isn't screaming value.
Roughie: AEGIPAN (No.10) — $11.00 / $3.10 🏆 2ND
Bet Tracked
Prob 9.8% | Place: 29.0% | Value: 1.34x
Why Roughie wins if she gets a good slice of clear sprint room, and the pace doesn't collapse.
That's the ticket as I struck it — the legs below are exactly what ran, no rewriting history.
Smart: 3,7,1,5 / 8,11,5,9 / 4,11,13,12 / 2,3,7 (192 combos x $0.26 = $50.40) -- 26% flexi
That's the ticket as I struck it — the legs below are exactly what ran, no rewriting history.
Smart: 11,10,15,8 / 9,10,6,2 / 2,10,3,1 / 7,5,8,10 (256 combos x $0.20 = $51.20) -- 20% flexi
That's the ticket as I struck it — the legs below are exactly what ran, no rewriting history.
Smart: 4 / 3 / 11 / 9 / 2 / 7 (1 combos x $2.00 = $2.00) -- 200% flexi
The day's multi leans on three win legs across the card.
1 - SCHUMACHER (Race 3, No.4)✓ Won — $2.75
2 - PHILATELIC (Race 4, No.3)✗ — $2.05
3 - HITCH (Race 5, No.11)✓ Won — $2.08

Punty's Early Mail
Rightio Loose Units, Kembla today is that proper "someone's getting stitched up in the run home" kind of card, rail helping a touch out wide, and the showers making everyone swing from full confidence to full panic between fences. I'm here for the chaos, I just like my chaos with a plan.
MEET SNAPSHOT
Track: Kembla Grange, 1600m-1000m card
Rail: +8m 1100m-W/Post, +5m Remainder
Official going: Good 4 (expected to play Fair speed, with leaders holding on when it matters)
Weather: Shower or two, 15°C (watch for the track gusts and late slick patch worries)
Early lane guess: Early Quaddie feels like a bomber-hunter card, Quaddie turns into a grind, Big 6 is where you either grow a moustache or lose your shirt
Tempo profile: Slow early on the first half, then it turns into a quicker sprint vibe in the back end
Jockeys to follow:
Keagan Latham: lanes to lead and a heap of trust rides in the sprints.
Jean Van Overmeire: keeps landing on the right horse at the right time, especially when the race pace is honest.
Mitchell Bell: crafty midpackers, good at getting horses home without doing anything silly.
Stables to respect:
R & L Price (2 runners): they always seem to have one ready to go, and they map like they expect a plan to work.
Matthew Smith (2 runners): steady hand on maidens and handicaps, the kind of trainer that cashes when everyone's overthinking.
Richard & Will Freedman (3 runners): they bring the engine to the party, especially when the track gives you something to work with.
Punty's take:
Kembla Grange on a Good 4 with showers is basically a "who can keep it together" test. Early races look like slow-pace setups where one slip in running room can turn a good horse into an unlucky horse. That's why I'm leaning on a couple of runners who either sit closer to the action or have gear changes that scream "prep run to performance".
Then in the middle, it turns into the classic provincial sprint shuffle. Expect horses to be barging for positions early, and the ones with the right gate and the right run style get the best of it. Race 5 is the vibe, tight-ish field, quick decisions, and I want the horse that can hold a straight line late.
Back half of the card is where the value nuggets live. Race 6 and 7 are the sort where you can go broke trying to win every race, so I'm picking spots where place leverage makes sense, then finishing with a proper chaos handicap sprint where speed and luck both do the driving.
What it means for you:
Here's the game plan in human terms. For the singles, I'm building a spine with the three strongest races on the card: Race 5 for the "just get there" maiden plate pressure, Race 4 for the class ladder that usually sorts itself, and Race 3 where the favourite profile is loud but you still back it because the pattern fits.
For your other bets, don't overreach in the wrong places. Race 1 is messy because of maiden chaos plus interference claims, so you're either with the value-ish place angle or you're watching it unfold like a Netflix episode you swear you won't binge. Race 6 is a place-leverage job, Race 7 is a value-with-pace call, and Race 8 is the "speed is king, but the bloke who gets clear is royalty" sprint.
If you want to play lanes, do Early Quaddie for the fun, Quaddie for the patience, Big 6 for the degenerates who still think they're in control. I'll be watching the tote like it owes me money.
