Punty's Early Mail
For all of Punty's tips for Gosford, head to https://punty.ai/tips/gosford-2026-11-05
Rightio Degenerates, Gosford is a Soft 6 with 9mm in the last 24 hours and 14mm over the week, so the ground is well and truly into the heavy side of soft. The rail's at +3m Entire, the sky's overcast, and the card runs from a 1100m sprint to a 2030m Class 1 staying test. Speed is scarce on most of these maps, so the racing comes down to who gets a soft trip and who gets stuck wide.
MEET SNAPSHOT
Track: Gosford, 1100m to 2030m card
Rail: +3m Entire
Official going: Soft 6 (9mm last 24 hours, 14mm last 7 days)
Weather: Overcast, gusts 9.3km/h
Early lane guess: unknown pre-race, watch the first two
Tempo profile: Race 1 and Race 3 run Moderate on the maps, Races 2, 4, 5 and 6 are Slow, and Race 7 is the only Genuine Pace race, with Ballyhoo the one horse who maps to lead it. Speed is thin all day, so the sit-behind-the-pace horses are the ones with options.
Jockeys to follow:
Chad Schofield: five rides today, and he's on our Race 4 top pick Belle Chanteuse, plus Liyah's Girl in Race 6 and Chemtrail in Race 7.
Winona Costin: four rides, including Sapling, our Race 1 pick, and Ballyhoo, the only horse on the map to lead Race 7.
Tom Sherry: four rides, with Freddie Bassett in Race 6 and Scuro Star in Race 7 both getting money on them.
Stables to respect:
Matthew Smith (6 runners): six runners spread across Races 2, 5, 6 and 7, including Liyah's Girl in Race 6, who is in the quaddie.
Annabel & Rob Archibald (4 runners): Usain Boss in Race 3 and Freddie Bassett in Race 6 are both on the Big 3 and the quaddie side.
M S Minervini (4 runners): Golden Princess in Race 4 is our third pick there, and Bonjour Madame in Race 5 has been heavily backed.
Punty's take: This is a card for the sit-and-wait crowd. Race 1 has the speed on paper but nobody who really wants the lead, so Sapling from barrier 1 is the horse who has to grab it, and the map says that's a shape against him. Race 2 and Race 4 are slow-pace races where the back half has to make it happen. In Race 2 I'm on Pearl Of Dubai each way, but the map has him sitting midfield in a race where the shape works against him, so you're paying for the place as much as the win. Race 3 is the one with the cleanest genuine option, because Usain Boss is drawn barrier 10 and the map says a Moderate pace suits him. Race 7 is the wildest, with Ballyhoo the only leader and a crowd of handy runners behind him, so the speed is going to be hot and whoever sits closest to it has an edge. Scuro Star is the horse who benefits from that shape. Race 5 looks like a mess of closers with Unbridled Storm drawn barrier 1 and a Slow pace on the map. Race 6 is a Class 1 at 2030m and Freddie Bassett is the one everyone's going to have to chase.
What it means for you: Be aggressive in Race 3 and Race 7, where the shape is clearer and the favourites have something going for them. Protect your bankroll in Race 2 and Race 5, where the back-half runners need the race to fall apart and the market has priced a few of them accordingly. The quaddie is Races 4 to 7, and that's where the value lives. Keep your roughies small, because the top three on each card are where the money goes, and the outsiders are there for the kick, not the bank. If you're chasing a big day, the Big 3 multi is your main weapon, and you should be happy to take the smaller collects on the rest.
PUNTY'S BIG 3 + MULTI
These are the three bets the day leans on.
1 - Belle Chanteuse (Race 4, No.2) — $2.15
Why Blinkers stay out and the trainer has 14.7% at this track, so she's a proven winner with the right trip. She's the most likely winner on the card, and Chad Schofield is on her.
2 - Pearl Of Dubai (Race 2, No.8) — $2.90
Why Soft 4:0-2-0 and two seconds at the distance, with a close fifth at Rosehill last start that came with interference. The map doesn't love the shape, but the form says she's better than her run.
3 - Freddie Bassett (Race 6, No.2) — $2.05
Why The map has the shape helping him, he's a 2030m winner in the making on a soft track, and Tom Sherry takes the ride with the Archibalds' stable in good order.
Multi (all three to win): $10 × 12.78 = $127.80
Race 1 – Paul Finn Memorial Midway Hcp
Race type: Class 1, 1200m
Map & tempo: Moderate pace on paper, but nobody on the card is a true leader, so Sapling from barrier 1 is the likeliest to find the front with Coyote and Prince De Vega fighting for it from barriers 4 and 2. Sun To Me from barrier 8 has to make up ground, and the shape suits the midfield runners while hurting the handy ones. That's a headache for Sapling, who needs to stay in front without being run down.
Punty read: Sapling is the one with money on him, a Win bet at $12.50, and the reason is the barrier and the trainer. He's drawn barrier 1 and Nacim Dilmi's team has a strike rate of 16.7% at this track. The shape is against him, and I'm happy to back him anyway because he has the best chance of getting an uncontested lead. Sun To Me is the one I'd keep an eye on, because his last three runs are all in the placings and he's sitting midfield where the pace helps. Prince De Vega has blinkers on first time, and his map says he's sitting handy in a race where the shape works against him. Firework is the roughie, but his first-up record is the reason he's on the list.
Top 3 + Roughie ($12.50 pool)
1. Sapling (No.3) — $2.00 / $1.09
Bet $12.50 Win, return $25.00
Prob 29.9% | Place: 70.0% | Value: 0.60x Steady since tip
Why He's the horse most likely to take the front from barrier 1 and the trainer and track numbers back his chances. The shape doesn't suit him, but a lead at barrier 1 is hard to deny.
2. Sun To Me (No.1) — $5.00 / $1.62
Bet Tracked
Prob 18.5% | Place: 62.4% | Value: 0.93x Steady since tip
Why A real chance — but at $1.62 the place the numbers don't give me enough edge to insure with. Watching, not betting.
3. Prince De Vega (No.7) — $5.50 / $1.70
Bet Tracked
Prob 15.6% | Place: 46.1% | Value: 0.86x Steady since tip
Why Blinkers go on first time, and he's been placed in his last three starts. The shape works against him from handy, so he needs the pace to be honest.
Roughie: Firework (No.6) — $11.00 / $2.60
Bet Tracked
Prob 7.3% | Place: 32.7% | Value: 0.80x Steady since tip
Why 85 days off and a first-up record of 5:1-2-0 gives him a chance if the front pair blows up. The shape suits midfield runners, and his Gosford second over 1200m shows he can handle the ground.
Race 2 – Central Coast Community News Super Mdn Plate
Race type: Maiden, 1200m
Map & tempo: Slow pace on the map with nobody mapping to lead or sit handy, so this is a race where the back half needs cover and luck. Titan Of Fury and Nights Like This are drawn wide, and the shape suits the back half, with Tennant Creek the best-placed on the map. Pearl Of Dubai is the one with the form but the map says the shape is against him, so the race will come down to whether a fast finish is on offer.
Punty read: Pearl Of Dubai is the top pick and the each-way bet is $15.00, with $7.50 win and $7.50 place. She's the best horse on the form, with a strong run at Randwick last start and a placed record on soft. Stonecrest and Thyme To Go are the others in the place frame, with Thyme To Go's recent wins at Muswellbrook and Scone making him dangerous. Titan Of Fury has the gear changes, but his form isn't backing him up at this price, so he's one for the list rather than the bet.
Top 3 + Roughie ($15.00 pool)
1. Pearl Of Dubai (No.8) — $2.90 / $1.22
Bet $15.00 Each Way ($7.50W + $7.50P), collects $30.90 if it wins ($21.75 win + $9.15 place), $9.15 if it only places
Prob 35.4% | Place: 70.0% | Value: 1.03x Steady since tip
Why Randwick 1050m winner last start with a close fifth at Rosehill before that, and a soft 4:0-2-0 record. Interference cost her at Rosehill, so the bounce back is the reason I'm on. The shape is against her, but she can still finish the race.
2. Stonecrest (No.5) — $2.35 / $1.13
Bet Tracked
Prob 24.2% | Place: 70.0% | Value: 0.57x Steady since tip
Why The top pick's each-way already covers the place angle here — doubling up is paying twice for the same insurance. Tracked instead.
3. Thyme To Go (No.9) — $3.10 / $1.25
Bet Tracked
Prob 23.5% | Place: 70.0% | Value: 0.73x Steady since tip
Why Muswellbrook and Scone winner in his last two starts, soft 5:0-2-1 and his sectionals are fastest at the 400m mark.
Roughie: North Counsel (No.4) — $12.00 / $2.60
Bet Tracked
Prob 8.3% | Place: 38.8% | Value: 0.99x Steady since tip
Why Lugging bit goes on first time and he was third at Rosehill over 900m last start. Map is unknown so I won't claim a position, but a placed run at a sprint is worth a look at this price.
Race 3 – Creightons Funeral Service Mdn Hcp
Race type: Maiden, 1100m
Map & tempo: Moderate pace with Hy from barrier 9 and Elska from barrier 4 the likeliest to find the front, and Prince Of Poetry pushing from barrier 6. Lions Eyes from barrier 12 and Usain Boss from barrier 10 both have to come from the back half, and the shape suits midfield runners, so Usain Boss is the one who gets the trip he needs.
Punty read: Usain Boss is the top pick and a $15.00 win bet. He has three seconds from ten starts and the map has the shape helping him. Blinkers go on first time and he's been running second and third at Tamworth. Hy and Lions Eyes are the next two, both with place form, and Navy Rose is the roughie if the market gets it wrong.
Top 3 + Roughie ($15.00 pool)
1. Usain Boss (No.14) — $3.70 / $1.65
Bet $15.00 Win, return $55.50
Prob 24.4% | Place: 56.3% | Value: 0.90x Steady since tip
Why Blinkers on first time, a Tamworth second last start and a Tuncurry third before that. The map has the shape helping midfield runners, and he's drawn wide but the pace should give him a run.
2. Hy (No.2) — $4.60 / $1.85
Bet Tracked
Prob 15.6% | Place: 46.1% | Value: 0.72x Steady since tip
Why A real chance — but at $1.85 the place the numbers don't give me enough edge to insure with. Watching, not betting.
3. Lions Eyes (No.1) — $5.50 / $2.10
Bet Tracked
Prob 14.4% | Place: 38.9% | Value: 0.79x Steady since tip
Why Warwick Farm 798m fifth last start, and he's two from two on good ground with two placings.
Roughie: Navy Rose (No.5) — $12.00 / $3.30
Bet Tracked
Prob 7.1% | Place: 28.0% | Value: 0.86x Steady since tip
Why Blinkers go on first time and he's drawn barrier 2, so the start is his best chance. The map is unknown, so I'd expect him to be somewhere in the field at the finish if the front pair blows up.
Race 4 – The Grand Saddles Provincial Mdn Hcp
Race type: Maiden, 1600m
Map & tempo: Slow pace with What A Gent from barrier 5 the likeliest to find the front. Belle Chanteuse, Circus Girl and Crispy Leaves are all drawn wide and have to work from the back. The shape suits Audacity and Royal And Ready, while Cool Summer Nights is the one who gets hurt by it. This is a race where the back half needs cover, so the one who can get a clean run will win it.
Punty read: Belle Chanteuse is the top pick, and the $13.00 win bet is the biggest call of the day in my book. Her form is solid and she's the one that gets a clean run from barrier 10 if the front pair wants a slow tempo. Cool Summer Nights and Golden Princess are the next two and both have value in the market. What A Gent is the roughie, because he leads or sits handy in a slow race where nobody else wants the front.
Top 3 + Roughie ($13.00 pool)
1. Belle Chanteuse (No.2) — $2.15 / $1.15
Bet $13.00 Win, return $27.95
Prob 39.0% | Place: 70.0% | Value: 0.84x Steady since tip
Why Third at Warwick Farm over 1300m last start, first at Warwick Farm over 816m before that, and she's a Good 2:0-0-1 performer. Chad Schofield on board with a 15.6% combo strike rate. She's up 3kg from last start, and the shape is against her, but she has the class to get the job done.
2. Cool Summer Nights (No.1) — $4.80 / $1.65
Bet Tracked
Prob 18.1% | Place: 57.0% | Value: 0.87x Steady since tip
Why A real chance — but at $1.65 the place the numbers don't give me enough edge to insure with. Watching, not betting.
3. Golden Princess (No.7) — $5.00 / $1.72
Bet Tracked
Prob 17.5% | Place: 53.2% | Value: 0.88x Steady since tip
Why Bumped and hampered at Wyong last start, and she's a sprint specialist on the sectionals. A fair run in the trip would see her in the finish.
Roughie: What A Gent (No.10) — $10.00 / $2.65
Bet Tracked
Prob 6.1% | Place: 29.3% | Value: 0.61x Steady since tip
Why Soft 10:0-3-4 with three seconds and a Taree second last start. He's the likeliest to find the front in a race nobody else wants to lead, so a slow tempo is what he needs.
Race 5 – Central Coast NSW Legacy (Bm64)
Race type: Benchmark 64, 1600m
Map & tempo: Slow pace with Pentagon from barrier 6 and Okami Star from barrier 7 the likeliest to find the front. Okami Star is drawn wide and has to work to cross. Mediaro from barrier 8 needs cover. The shape suits Showmara, Mediaro and Okami Star, and it hurts Federal Reserve. Unbridled Storm is drawn barrier 1 and settles back, so the shape is against him, which makes the race a tactical puzzle.
Punty read: Unbridled Storm is the top pick and the $10.50 win bet is the pick of the card's back half. He's drawn barrier 1 and the map has him sitting back, so he needs a late burst, and his last start Warwick Farm third shows he's still running well. Showmara and Federal Reserve are the next two, and Kingston Charm is the roughie if the front runners go flat.
Top 3 + Roughie ($10.50 pool)
1. Unbridled Storm (No.5) — $2.45 / $1.22
Bet $10.50 Win, return $25.73
Prob 28.4% | Place: 70.0% | Value: 0.70x Steady since tip
Why Warwick Farm 1600m third last start and a Hawkesbury 1400m win before that. Soft 2:0-0-1 and a Jason Collett ride with a 10% combo strike rate. The shape is against him, but a closer on soft at this distance can still win.
2. Showmara (No.4) — $6.00 / $1.72
Bet Tracked
Prob 18.7% | Place: 58.7% | Value: 1.12x Steady since tip
Why A real chance — but at $1.72 the place the numbers don't give me enough edge to insure with. Watching, not betting.
3. Federal Reserve (No.1) — $4.40 / $1.60
Bet Tracked
Prob 18.2% | Place: 46.1% | Value: 0.80x Steady since tip
Why Three wins from fourteen starts with a 3-1-2 career and a Wyong fourth last start. The shape is against him from midfield, but his soft record is sound.
Roughie: Kingston Charm (No.3) — $13.00 / $2.80
Bet Tracked
Prob 5.7% | Place: 24.4% | Value: 0.75x Steady since tip
Why Career 47: 5-4-7 with 22 starts over this distance for three wins. He's a backmarker, so the front pair has to tire for him to be a factor, and the sectionals show a fastest 600m.
Race 6 – The Ary, Toukley Plate (C1)
Race type: Class 1, 2030m
Map & tempo: Slow pace with nobody mapping to lead or sit handy. Don's Party, Queen Tavane and Mission Strike are drawn wide and need cover or luck, and the shape suits Freddie Bassett, who sits midfield from barrier 5. This is a staying race where the midfield pair will have the pace to work with, so the track position is an advantage.
Punty read: Freddie Bassett is the top pick and a $7.50 win bet. He's been running well at Newcastle, and his map has the shape helping him sitting midfield. Liyah's Girl and Scoish Maloish are the next two, and Isotropic is the roughie in a race where the market has drifted him out from $8.00 to $14.00.
Top 3 + Roughie ($7.50 pool)
1. Freddie Bassett (No.2) — $2.05 / $1.14
Bet $7.50 Win, return $15.38
Prob 34.0% | Place: 70.0% | Value: 0.70x Steady since tip
Why Blinkers go on again, and he's been placed at Newcastle over 1900m last start. Tom Sherry is on board with the Archibalds' stable in form, and the shape helps him.
2. Liyah's Girl (No.3) — $3.90 / $1.60
Bet Tracked
Prob 22.5% | Place: 70.0% | Value: 0.88x Steady since tip
Why A real chance — but at $1.60 the place the numbers don't give me enough edge to insure with. Watching, not betting.
3. Scoish Maloish (No.11) — $5.50 / $1.80
Bet Tracked
Prob 17.8% | Place: 59.1% | Value: 0.98x Steady since tip
Why Fourth at Hawkesbury over 1800m last start, and soft 4:0-1-1 with a 14.3% jockey strike rate at this track.
Roughie: Isotropic (No.10) — $16.00 / $3.30
Bet Tracked
Prob 5.2% | Place: 24.4% | Value: 0.83x Steady since tip
Why Fourth at Canberra over 2000m last start, with a bumped and interfered run that cost him. Soft 6:0-1-2 and a market move from $8.00 to $14.00 is the sort of drift that ends up on the wrong side of the result.
Race 7 – Mr & Mrs Duggan 44th Anniversary (Bm64)
Race type: Benchmark 64, 1100m
Map & tempo: Genuine pace with Ballyhoo the only leader from barrier 3, and Ex Wife, Navy Steel, Portico, Can't Touch This and Scuro Star all handy and pressing him. Portico is drawn wide from barrier 10 and has to work to cross. The shape helps Portico, Scuro Star and Zoukerino, and it hurts Ballyhoo, so this is a race where the pace is going to be honest and the one who sits handy gets the rewards.
Punty read: Scuro Star is the top pick and a $15.00 win bet. He sits handy from barrier 4 where the shape helps him, and he has soft form with a Hawkesbury 1100m win last start before the Randwick run. Chemtrail and Portico are the next two, and Zoukerino is the roughie because the shape suits him and his soft 14:1-1-0 record shows he's had his moments.
Top 3 + Roughie ($15.00 pool)
1. Scuro Star (No.9) — $3.00 / $1.50
Bet $15.00 Win, return $45.00
Prob 22.7% | Place: 54.0% | Value: 0.68x Steady since tip
Why Soft 2:1-1-0 and a Hawkesbury 1100m win, with a Warwick Farm second over the same trip. The map has the shape helping him from handy, and his fastest time is the sectional that sells him.
2. Chemtrail (No.3) — $4.20 / $1.72
Bet Tracked
Prob 18.4% | Place: 53.0% | Value: 0.77x Steady since tip
Why A real chance — but at $1.72 the place the numbers don't give me enough edge to insure with. Watching, not betting.
3. Portico (No.5) — $4.50 / $1.80
Bet Tracked
Prob 17.4% | Place: 52.7% | Value: 0.78x Steady since tip
Why Third at Kembla Grange 1000m last start and the shape helps a handy runner like him. He's drawn wide, so he has to work for the trip.
Roughie: Zoukerino (No.12) — $12.00 / $3.10
Bet Tracked
Prob 6.7% | Place: 27.8% | Value: 0.81x Steady since tip
Why Second at Nowra over 1200m last start, and his sectionals show the fastest 600m on the card. The shape suits midfield runners, so if the pace stays hot he runs on.
SEQUENCE LANES
QUADDIE (R4–R7)
Smart: 2,1 / 5,4,1 / 2,3,11 / 9,3,5 (54 combos x $0.3704 = $20.00) -- 37% flexi
Punty's take: Race 4 and Race 6 are the tight legs with two or three standouts, while Race 5 and Race 7 are open, so the ticket lives or dies on the back half. The flexi floor is 30% and this sits at 37%. The $20.00 outlay is a sensible play, but short-priced winners rarely pay, so the money only comes if one of the $4.80 to $5.00 chances gets up somewhere in the sequence.
NUGGETS FROM THE TRACK
1 - Blinkers go on for Usain Boss
Blinkers are on first time for No.14 Usain Boss. He has 0 wins from 10 starts with three seconds and a third, so the gear change is the thing to watch.
2 - Firework is first-up off 85 days
No.6 Firework is 85 days off with a first-up record of 5:1-2-0. The first-up tag says the spell is not a worry, and he's the roughie in Race 1 at $11.00.
3 - The $101.00 chance has never been on soft
Koritsi is priced at $101.00 and has a 0-for-5 record on soft. He's a write your own ticket runner, and if you want to back a longshot who won't pay for the trip, this is the one.
FINAL WORD FROM THE SICKO SANCTUARY
The Gosford card is soft, slow in the main, and full of horses that need a clean run. Get on the ones who get the trip, leave the rest alone, and I'll see you at the bar when the quaddie's done.
