For all of Punty's tips for Trentham, head to https://punty.ai/tips/trentham-2026-10-25

Rightio Ratbags, Trentham is sitting on a Soft 5 with the rail out 6m, the sky's overcast and the gusts are up around 24km/h, so nobody's getting a free ride on the grass today. Eight races, 97 runners, and the early speed is thin in the first two races, so the lane and the pace are where this card gets won or lost. Grab a coffee, pull up a stool, and let's go through it.

MEET SNAPSHOT

Track: Trentham, 1000m to 2400m card
Rail: Out 6m
Official going: Soft 5 (rainfall not given in the data)
Weather: Overcast, gusts 24.1km/h. Rain risk 60%+ at 11:00, 14:00, 17:00, 20:00 and 23:00
Early lane guess: unknown pre-race, watch the first two
Tempo profile: Race 1 slow, Race 2 moderate, Race 3 slow, Race 4 moderate, Race 5 hot (four mapped leaders), Race 6 moderate, Race 7 genuine with Cluedo Lane the only mapped leader, Race 8 genuine with Highly Lethal the only mapped leader
Jockeys to follow:
Floor Moerman (6): six rides, including Pleasing on the lead in Race 4 and Amend, also mapped to lead, in Race 5.
Craig Grylls (5): High Rock in Race 1, Puzzle in Race 2, Identikit in Race 3, Gossip in Race 6 and Belles Beau in Race 7.
Joe Doyle (5): Thunder In Motion in Race 1, Jachimo in Race 2, Azeezle in Race 5, Monologue in Race 7 and Perfect Habit in Race 8.
Stables to respect:
Ms L Latta (8 runners): the biggest team on the card, with Sir Mikki and Identikit in Race 3 and Coulthard, Hoorah Henry and Love Janie in Race 8. Eight runners is a lot of shots on goal.
C W Cole (5 runners): Proboy in Race 3, Bradley in Race 6, Miss Jones in Race 5, Jachimo in Race 2 and Paddy The Farmer in Race 8. Miss Jones and Bradley are the two that matter most.
G A & D G Rogerson & Clint Isdale (5 runners): Sharp 'n' Smart and Knights Realm in Race 7, Domain Ace in Race 4, Play in Race 6 and Lowry Queen in Race 2.

Punty's take:

The speed on this card is light at the top and heavy in the middle. Races 1 and 3 are slow-pace affairs where the mapped leaders can get a sit, while Race 5 has four horses mapped to lead over a sprint, so that one is a proper fight up front and a good spot for the horses sitting just off it. Race 2 and Race 4 look like thinner, messier fields where the runners have to find their own way, and Race 4 has two leaders in Pleasing and Bee Precious sharing the early ground. Races 7 and 8 are the big-field handicap and Benchmark 75 races where one leader gives you the shape, so the pace there is worth watching as the market settles.

The bankers, if you want to call any of them that, are Race 1 and Race 6, where the market has put a clear price on one horse. Race 2 is the chaos race, a maiden with Top Marks at $1.50 and a lot of sprinkled horses behind him. The Soft 5 going cuts both ways, so respect the horses with genuine soft form and be careful with the ones whose soft record is thin or empty.

What it means for you:

Be aggressive on Race 5 and Race 6 where the shape and the market are both reading the same way. Miss Jones at $2.20 is the short-price anchor of the sprint and Bradley at $2.90 sits at the head of the staying race, so those are the two I'm putting real money behind. Keep the stakes tight in Race 1, where it's a four-runner field and the place tote is the only place price on the menu.

Race 2 is where you protect. Top Marks at $1.50 is the only bet in that race and the rest is watching. Race 4 is the one to stay patient in, where Sibling Rivalry is the only horse with a stake on him and the rest of the field is danger rather than bet.

The value is spread out. Pleasing at $16.00 is the roughie in the sprint and Early One's at $14.00 is the roughie in the mile-and-a-half race, both long shots with a path if the pace collapses in front of them. Be honest with yourself about how much you're putting on those tickets.

PUNTY'S BIG 3 + MULTI

No pre-calculated Big 3 multi was supplied with today's data, so there's no Big 3 section this run.

Race 1 – Thefracclub.com 3yo

Race type: Open, 1400m
Map & tempo: Slow Pace. Old Fashioned is mapped ON-PACE, High Rock is BACKMARKER, and Singletary and Thunder In Motion are both MIDFIELD. Nobody's mapped to lead.
Punty read: Old Fashioned is the only bet in this race at $14.00 win, and that's the call. He's the one who sits near the front in a slow-paced race and doesn't need the ground to break his way. He's 2kg up from his last start, and the data says he's best at lighter weights, which is the one thing I'd be watching. He's 2 wins from 2 on soft and was a last-start winner at Hastings over 1400m. High Rock is the danger, a backmarker who ran 5th at Hastings with a slow start and held up, so if he gets clear with a run he's a threat. Thunder In Motion has the fastest sectional time in the field from his last run, which makes him one to watch in the finish. This is a four-runner field, so the place tote is all you've got.

Top 3 + Roughie ($14.00 pool)

1. Old Fashioned (No.1) — $1.65 / place tote
Bet $14.00 Win, return $23.10
Prob 52.2% | Place: 2.2% | Value: 0.86x Steady since tip
Why He's the horse in front in a slow race and the data says he's a winner on soft. The 2kg rise is the only knock, and the market agrees with me.
2. High Rock (No.3) — $5.00 / place tote
Bet Tracked
Prob 21.1% | Place: 2.2% | Value: 1.06x Steady since tip
Why A real chance — but at that price the place the numbers don't give me enough edge to insure with. Watching, not betting.
3. Thunder In Motion (No.5) — $6.00 / place tote
Bet Tracked
Prob 14.6% | Place: 2.2% | Value: 0.88x Steady since tip
Why Mapped midfield with the fastest sectional from his last run. Good closing time, but he needs the race to fall right.

Roughie: Singletary (No.4) — $6.50 / place tote
Bet Tracked
Prob 12.7% | Place: 2.2% | Value: 0.83x Steady since tip
Why He's the last of the four and the one with the biggest bad-luck story, bumped and hampered at Hastings and held up at Hastings again. If the front-runner gets run down and the field gets messy, he's a live tickler.

Race 2 – Rat Tat (He's 26) Mdn

Race type: Maiden, 1400m
Map & tempo: Moderate Pace. Dolindo and Jachimo are both ON-PACE, Top Marks is MIDFIELD, and Puzzle, Captain Ardie, Fort Knox and Sax Appeal are BACKMARKER. Nobody in this field is mapped as a leader.
Punty read: Top Marks is the one I'm backing at $1.50, $13.00 to win, return $19.50. He's the market favourite and the data shows only one start on the books, a second at Te Rapa over 1400m, so he's unproven in the sense that matters, but everything else in the field is either first-up or thinly raced. The place price is $1.12, which tells you how much the market loves him. Dolindo is the danger: ON-PACE, 2 seconds from his last 3 and 2nd at Woodville 1400m last start, and Puzzle is the horse I'd be watching at the finish with a 3rd at Waverley over 1400m last start. Jachimo is the roughie with a 171-day spell and a first-up record of 1:0-0-0 to overcome.

Top 3 + Roughie ($13.00 pool)

1. Top Marks (No.11) — $1.55 / $1.12
Bet $13.00 Win, return $20.15
Prob 39.1% | Place: 70.0% | Value: 0.61x Steady since tip
Why Market favourite with a second from his only start, and a Soft record of 1:0-1-0. He's the one to beat even if the price is short.
2. Puzzle (No.13) — $9.50 / $2.85
Bet Tracked
Prob 10.4% | Place: 29.3% | Value: 0.99x Steady since tip
Why A real chance — but at $2.85 the place the numbers don't give me enough edge to insure with. Watching, not betting.
3. Dolindo (No.1) — $12.00 / $3.20
Bet Tracked
Prob 10.3% | Place: 27.8% | Value: 1.24x Steady since tip
Why Two seconds from his last three and ON-PACE, so he's close enough to pounce. The price is long enough to make you think, but the place price is too thin to bother with.

Roughie: Jachimo (No.3) — $12.00 / $3.20
Bet Tracked
Prob 7.3% | Place: 27.9% | Value: 0.87x Steady since tip
Why Off a 171-day spell with a first-up record of 1:0-0-0, so the path is a fresh horse sitting just behind a lead that might not come. Needs the fitness to show.

Race 3 – Pukerua Heights (Bm75)

Race type: Benchmark 75, 2400m
Map & tempo: Slow Pace. Proboy and Piper's Son and Keepitinyourwallet are MIDFIELD, Sir Mikki and Weneedashock are ON-PACE, and Hi Yo Fox Rox, Identikit, Poetic Justice and Wind Talker are BACKMARKER.
Punty read: Proboy at $3.30, $7.50 win, return $24.75, is the bet. He's the one who matters over the 2400m trip, with 3 wins and 5 seconds from 20 starts, and he's a soft specialist with 2 wins from 7. Trainer C W Cole has Proboy in good nick and he carries 7kg more than last start, which I'm happy with at the trip. The danger is Hi Yo Fox Rox, a backmarker with the fastest sectional time in the field and a last-start excuse, bumped and hampered at New Plymouth. Identikit is the one who should be better for the trip, held up and bumped at Hastings last start. The slow pace in front suits the backmarkers if they can get a run home.

Top 3 + Roughie ($7.50 pool)

1. Proboy (No.1) — $3.30 / $1.45
Bet $7.50 Win, return $24.75
Prob 26.9% | Place: 51.6% | Value: 0.89x Steady since tip
Why He's the horse with the most consistent record at the trip in the field, and the trainer has him hot. The 7kg rise is a knock but he's still the one to beat.
2. Hi Yo Fox Rox (No.3) — $3.30 / $1.45
Bet Tracked
Prob 19.4% | Place: 46.1% | Value: 0.64x Steady since tip
Why A real chance — but at $1.45 the place the numbers don't give me enough edge to insure with. Watching, not betting.
3. Identikit (No.4) — $4.40 / $1.65
Bet Tracked
Prob 17.2% | Place: 46.1% | Value: 0.76x Steady since tip
Why Trip-capable, 1 win and 3 seconds from 25 starts, and he was held up and bumped last start. He's a fair chance if he gets clear.

Roughie: Wind Talker (No.7) — $11.00 / $2.85
Bet Tracked
Prob 6.6% | Place: 24.4% | Value: 0.72x Steady since tip
Why The data flags him with a warning, 0/4 winning at 56-66kg, so he's a bigger price with a real weight problem. If he gets the lead and the field stops, the 2nd at Woodville over 2100m last start shows he can run the trip.

Race 4 – Jennian Homes (Bm65)

Race type: Benchmark 65, 1000m
Map & tempo: Moderate Pace. Pleasing and Bee Precious are both LEADER, Sibling Rivalry, Ka Ying Lucky, Sierra Leone, Falcrests Belle, Domain Ace, Bodacious Kate and Thorax are ON-PACE, and Massive Prince and Marotiri Marsta are MIDFIELD and BACKMARKER respectively.
Punty read: Sibling Rivalry at $3.90, $9.50 win, return $37.05, is the bet. She's a soft type with 2 wins from 5 on soft, she's trained by Mark Walker and Sam Bergerson (trainer running at 27% over the last 100), and Hayley Hassman is riding. The 8kg rise from her last start is a knock, but the market has her as a strong chance and so do I. Thorax is the danger, ON-PACE with a tight race record at this track, and his last start was an 8th at Tauranga with a slow start. Pleasing has three interference excuses in his recent starts, so if he gets a clean run from the lead, he's the one who could steal it.

Top 3 + Roughie ($9.50 pool)

1. Sibling Rivalry (No.6) — $4.00 / $1.72
Bet $9.50 Win, return $38.00
Prob 17.1% | Place: 46.1% | Value: 0.68x Steady since tip
Why Soft winner with 2 wins from 5 and a trainer running hot. The 8kg rise is the only knock, and she's the one I'd be on.
2. Thorax (No.1) — $6.00 / $2.25
Bet Tracked
Prob 15.7% | Place: 38.9% | Value: 0.94x Steady since tip
Why A real chance — but at $2.25 the place the numbers don't give me enough edge to insure with. Watching, not betting.
3. Bee Precious (No.10) — $4.00 / $1.72
Bet Tracked
Prob 12.7% | Place: 34.1% | Value: 0.51x Steady since tip
Why Mapped LEADER with a soft record of 2 starts, 0 wins, 1 third. The sprint suits a speed horse, but the leader's spot is shared with Pleasing.

Roughie: Pleasing (No.5) — $16.00 / $3.80
Bet Tracked
Prob 6.6% | Place: 24.1% | Value: 1.05x Steady since tip
Why LEADER from barrier 9, with three interference excuses in recent starts. If the sprint gets him out cleanly, he's the one who takes the lead and nobody wants to go past him.

Race 5 – Grant Plumbing Hcp

Race type: Open, 1000m
Map & tempo: Hot Pace. Lhasa, Ima Brazen One, Amend and Azeezle are all LEADER. Party Rocking, Legally Binding and Miss Jones are ON-PACE, and The Perfect One is MIDFIELD.
Punty read: Miss Jones at $2.20, $8.50 win, return $18.70, is the bet. She's ON-PACE in a race with four mapped leaders, so she's the one sitting just off the speed and she's got the sectional that matters, with L400 the fastest in the field. She's 1 win from 3 first-up, 4kg down from last start, and the market is backing her in. The danger is the four leaders going hard, so if they burn each other out, Legally Binding and Party Rocking are the ones to come from the pack. Azeezle is a leader with a bumped-and-hampered 13th at Te Rapa last start, so he's the one who gets run down if the pace gets too hot.

Top 3 + Roughie ($8.50 pool)

1. Miss Jones (No.7) — $2.30 / $1.14
Bet $8.50 Win, return $19.55
Prob 33.9% | Place: 60.6% | Value: 0.78x Steady since tip
Why Sits just off a hot pace with the fastest L400 in the field and a jockey running hot. She's the one I trust most in this sprint.
2. Legally Binding (No.6) — $5.00 / $1.70
Bet Tracked
Prob 15.4% | Place: 38.9% | Value: 0.77x Steady since tip
Why A real chance — but at $1.70 the place the numbers don't give me enough edge to insure with. Watching, not betting.
3. Azeezle (No.4) — $5.00 / $1.70
Bet Tracked
Prob 14.8% | Place: 46.1% | Value: 0.74x Steady since tip
Why Speed rank 1 and LEADER, so he's in the thick of the pace. A bumped-and-hampered last start is the excuse, and he's the one who could blow up in the hot pace.

Roughie: The Perfect One (No.8) — $9.00 / $2.50
Bet Tracked
Prob 8.3% | Place: 29.3% | Value: 0.75x Steady since tip
Why MIDFIELD in a race where the leaders are going to cook each other. A 3rd at Taupo last start and a strong sprint record make him the one who runs down the field.

Race 6 – Grahams Painters (Bm65)

Race type: Benchmark 65, 1600m
Map & tempo: Moderate Pace. Bradley, Valley King, Early One's, Flagship, Tik Tok Ted, Will, Kawatiri and Marge are MIDFIELD. Gossip, Say I Do, The Magician and Rich Attitude are ON-PACE, and Play is BACKMARKER.
Punty read: Bradley at $2.90, $10.50 win, return $30.45, is the bet. He's the horse with the best record at this trip and the market has him as the favourite, and the jockey and trainer are both running hot. He's had 2 wins from 20 starts and the soft record is 2:2-3-0 from 12. Valley King is the danger, a MIDFIELD horse with a 3rd at Waverley 1650m last start and a dist record of 9:3-1-1. Gossip is the ON-PACE runner with the fastest sectional from his last run, a 5th at Waverley last start, so he's the one who can run them down if the pace stays steady.

Top 3 + Roughie ($10.50 pool)

1. Bradley (No.2) — $2.90 / $1.45
Bet $10.50 Win, return $30.45
Prob 28.1% | Place: 46.1% | Value: 0.81x Steady since tip
Why Strong soft record and a trainer and jockey both running hot. He's the one I'd want on a wet track at this trip.
2. Valley King (No.1) — $4.60 / $1.80
Bet Tracked
Prob 18.8% | Place: 46.1% | Value: 0.86x Steady since tip
Why A real chance — but at $1.80 the place the numbers don't give me enough edge to insure with. Watching, not betting.
3. Gossip (No.12) — $4.00 / $1.70
Bet Tracked
Prob 13.2% | Place: 38.8% | Value: 0.53x Steady since tip
Why ON-PACE with the fastest sectional from his last run. The 5th at Waverley was a solid run and he's the danger at the finish.

Roughie: Early One's (No.3) — $14.00 / $3.80
Bet Tracked
Prob 5.9% | Place: 23.9% | Value: 0.83x Steady since tip
Why 161 days off with a 2nd at Otaki 2200m last start. The fitness is the question, but the soft record is 1:3-2-1 from 6 and he's a stayer at a mile-and-a-half if he finds the rhythm.

Race 7 – Gee & Hickton Thompson Hcp

Race type: Open, 1600m
Map & tempo: Genuine Pace. Cluedo Lane is the only horse mapped LEADER. Crouch, Enrico, The Scunner, Herbert and Sharp 'n' Smart (no, Sharp 'n' Smart is MIDFIELD), the ON-PACE group is Riverplate, Herbert, Crouch, Enrico, The Scunner, Knights Realm and What You Wish For (MIDFIELD). Belles Beau, Astoria Brooke, Tisse, Afterglo and Tolstoy are BACKMARKER.
Punty read: No selection is locked for this race and no prices have been posted in the data I've got, so I'm not putting a number on any horse. Cluedo Lane is the only mapped leader, so if he gets an uncontested lead the speed is going to be on the bottom line. That's a big field of twenty with a lot of horses sitting midfield, so the race is going to come down to who sits in the right spot when the pace lifts. Belles Beau has the soft and trip record to be dangerous from the back, and Riverplate, ON-PACE with 6 wins from 23 soft starts, is the one I'd be watching for the staying trip if the price comes in. Wait for the market to post before making any call.

Top 3 + Roughie

No selections locked for this race. No prices posted yet in my data, so no Top 3 and no roughie today.

Race 8 – Upper Hutt Car Sales (Bm75)

Race type: Benchmark 75, 1400m
Map & tempo: Genuine Pace. Highly Lethal is the only horse mapped LEADER. Belles Boom, Za Spirit, Surround Sound and Meglio Di Falcrest are ON-PACE. Coulthard, Hoorah Henry, Kosta, Country Salon and the rest of the midfield group are MIDFIELD, and Hoorah Henry is BACKMARKER on the map.
Punty read: No selection is locked for this race and no prices have been posted in the data, so I'm not putting a number on anything here. Highly Lethal is the only mapped leader and he's a soft runner with a trip record that's thin, so if he gets an uncontested lead, he sets the tempo. Belles Boom is the ON-PACE horse with a 1st at Hawera 1400m last start and a soft record of 1:2-1 from 5, so he's the one who sits closest to the lead. Coulthard is the midfield horse with the best track record and a 2nd at Trentham last start, and he's the one I'd check the price on first.

Top 3 + Roughie

No selections locked for this race. No prices posted yet in my data, so no Top 3 and no roughie today.

SEQUENCE LANES

No pre-built Early Quaddie, Quaddie or Big 6 tickets were supplied with today's data, so there are no sequence lanes this run.

NUGGETS FROM THE TRACK

1 - The weight that worries me
Old Fashioned is 2kg up from his last start and the data says he's best at lighter weights. He's the Race 1 bet and the one to watch on the scales.

2 - Keepitinyourwallet is the unluckiest horse on the card
His last-start excuses read bumped and hampered at Hastings, bumped and hampered at Awapuni Synthetic, and a medical or physical issue at Otaki. He's not in my picks, but if you want a horse with a story to tell, he's the one.

3 - Three interference excuses and still a leader
Pleasing has three interference excuses in his last few starts, including 6th at Waverley and 4th at Wanganui. If the sprint lets him get clear from barrier 9, he's the one who wins the argument over who gets the lead.

THE LOOSE UNIT LOUNGE

Miss Jones at $2.20 is the bet I'd take to the bar, and Pleasing is the one I'd write in the margin for the sprint. Ride the favourite with your head and the roughies with your heart, and I'll see you at the rail.
