Punty's Early Mail
For all of Punty's tips for Coffs Harbour, head to https://punty.ai/tips/coffs-harbour-2026-10-31
Rightio Ticket Munchers, Coffs Harbour is a Heavy 8 with a bit of wind in the gusts (16.7km/h) and the rail out 2m from the 1600m to 1000m and 7m from 1000m to 350m, so this is a card for sensible punters, not heroes. Five races, 43 runners, and the day is packed with first-up horses, blinker changes and a couple of maidens that have never been asked a proper question. I've got three bets with money on them, two races with no selections at all, and one sequence I can't build a ticket for because the data doesn't hand me one. Let's get into it.
MEET SNAPSHOT
Track: Coffs Harbour, 800m to 1600m card
Rail: +2m 1600m-1000m, +7m 1000m-350m, true remainder
Official going: Heavy 8 (Nil rainfall last 24hrs, 49mm last 7 days)
Weather: Fine, live gusts 16.7km/h
Early lane guess: unknown pre-race, watch the first two
Tempo profile: Race 1 and Race 2 are both built around one clear front-runner or a soft pace. Race 3 and Race 4 are slow-pace races with nobody obviously wanting the lead. Race 5 is the only one with two genuine leaders in Spills and Bianco Nero, and that one could get messy.
Jockeys to follow:
Ben Looker: five rides today, including La Regina in Race 1, the horse I'm putting money on.
Luke Rolls: five rides today, including Youwroteuponit in Race 3, my Big 3 Win bet, and Sweet Enchantress on the lead in Race 2.
Courtney Bellamy: four rides today, including G'day Ausbred in Race 1 and Raised By Wolves in Race 4, the horse at the top of my numbers in that race.
Stables to respect:
Aiden St Vincent (6 runners): Two in Race 1 (La Regina and Sea Turtle) and the one that matters most is La Regina, backed each way. Also has Glowing Mist and Girton in Race 2, plus Introducing and Dancing Tilda.
D L Matts (4 runners): Hear The Wolf Cry and Monsieur Wolf, then City Of Tears in Race 3 and Raised By Wolves in Race 4, the stable's best chance on my numbers.
Samantha McGuren (3 runners): Too Hard To Find in Race 1, Rockin' Red in Race 2 and Benriach in Race 3, where the price has firmed from $7.00 to $6.00.
Punty's take: Coffs has given me a meeting that rewards reading the early race shape rather than just chasing the market. Race 1 is the one with the most shape to it, and that's where the first thing I need you to understand comes in. The Moderate Pace label sounds calm, but G'day Ausbred from barrier 8 and La Regina from barrier 9 both have to work to get across, and G'day Ausbred is the one the expected pace actually suits. La Regina is still my each-way bet because he has the sectionals and the class to run a place, even though the shape is against him. Race 2 is the one I'd call a sprint with a single leader in Sweet Enchantress, and whoever is sitting on her back is going to have a clearer run than anyone else. Morebar is the Race 2 bet because his sectionals are the quickest in the field, and the expected pace is not kind to him, so that's a bet on his quality. Race 3 is slow pace on paper, and that's a headache for Youwroteuponit, who sits midfield from barrier 1. He's my Big 3 Win bet anyway because his last two starts are the best form in the race and his finishing sectional is the fastest in the field. Race 4 is slow pace, a 1600m with Mammoth Mountain as the only likely leader, and I have no price to back anyone yet. Race 5 is the one I'd leave alone until the market speaks, two leaders contest the lead and the shape favours the back half, so the price will do the talking.
What it means for you: The sharp play is to stick with the three bets on the card, keep the stakes where they are, and resist the urge to add more. Race 1 is the most complicated, so treat La Regina each way as the bet that might need luck, not the one that rides easy. G'day Ausbred is the horse most of the market has backed in, but he's not in my staked bets, so he's a danger, not a pick. Race 2 and Race 3 are the easiest to read and where the Big 3 bets are coming from. Morebar and Youwroteuponit both carry strong recent form into a day where the expected shape is against them, and that's the kind of value the market keeps undervaluing. Races 4 and 5 are your protect races for today. No selections, no prices yet, and if the market moves in after scratchings or prices settle, I'll be the first to tell you. The Big 3 multi is the headline, and the Race 1 each-way is the bet that lets it pay if the rest of the card cooperates.
PUNTY'S BIG 3 + MULTI
These are the three bets the day leans on.
1 - Youwroteuponit (Race 3, No.2) — $1.75
Why Third at Port Macquarie over 1100m last start, third at Coffs over 1200m before that, and winner-placed form in heavy going with a 1-1-0 record from 1 start on heavy. He's a midfield runner in a slow race, which is a worry, but the finishing sectional is the best in the field and the jockey and trainer combo has been running at a 14.1% strike rate together at Coffs.
2 - Morebar (Race 2, No.2) — $2.25
Why Fastest sectionals in the field over 600m and 400m, second at Coffs over 1014m back in June, and he's held up or bumped in his last two runs. The expected pace doesn't help him, but his first-up record is 2-0-1-0 and the race has only one leader, so the early dash won't kill him.
3 - La Regina (Race 1, No.6) — $3.40
Why Ranked second for last 600m, last 400m and time in the field, and both his last-start excuses were bumped or hampered runs at Grafton and Coffs. The shape is against him from barrier 9, but he's the most consistent horse in a race where nobody else is doing much.
Multi (all three to win): $10 × 13.39 = $133.90
Race 1 – Geoff King Motors & Watsons Caravans Mdn Plate
Race type: Maiden, 1200m
Map & tempo: Moderate pace with no sure leader. Colorado Tycoon from barrier 1 and G'day Ausbred from barrier 8 are the likeliest to take the front, and G'day Ausbred has to work across from barrier 8 to do it. La Regina from barrier 9 and Too Hard To Find from barrier 6 sit handy, and the expected pace suits the forward runners, not the ones sitting just off them. That makes this a race for the horses that can get to the speed without spending too much, and La Regina has to be one of them.
Punty read: La Regina is the each-way bet because he's the one who can win this off the speed while being just close enough to pick up a place. The shape works against him, and he's drawn wide at barrier 9. What saves him is the sectional form (second for last 600m, last 400m and time) and both his last starts ended with bumps or interference rather than being outclassed. Ben Looker is running at a 17% strike rate over his last 100 rides, which is handy. Watch G'day Ausbred at $2.80, the shortest price on the card, with the fastest sectionals in the field and a bumped run at Coffs. Too Hard To Find has been winless in four first-up starts, but his track form is steady and Luke Rolls is a good rider. Colorado Tycoon from barrier 1 is the roughie that might lead. Hear The Wolf Cry has pacifiers on first time and Omaha Bart has a tongue tie on first time, so watch those two in the market.
Top 3 + Roughie (Total stake $12.00)
1. La Regina (No.6) — $3.60 / $1.45
Bet $12.00 Each Way ($6.00W + $6.00P), collects $30.30 if it wins ($21.60 win + $8.70 place), $8.70 if it only places
Prob 22.7% | Place: 46.1% | Value: 0.82x Steady since tip
Why Sectional leader of the group and the best-looking closer in a race that could be slow to settle. Two bumped or hampered starts recently, and the shape is against him, so this is an each-way bet, not a win-only shot.
2. G'day Ausbred (No.2) — $2.80 / $1.32
Bet Tracked
Prob 22.6% | Place: 46.1% | Value: 0.63x Steady since tip
Why The top pick's each-way already covers the place angle here — doubling up is paying twice for the same insurance. Tracked instead.
3. Too Hard To Find (No.8) — $5.00 / $1.72
Bet Tracked
Prob 19.9% | Place: 38.9% | Value: 0.99x Steady since tip
Why Ranked third for sectionals and has had a bumped-free run of late. Winless first-up in four starts, so he's a watch-only runner.
Roughie: Colorado Tycoon (No.1) — $13.00 / $3.00
Bet Tracked
Prob 6.3% | Place: 24.1% | Value: 0.82x Steady since tip
Why Barrier 1 gives him the best chance of getting the lead without a fight. Raced wide last start at Taree and has a 3-0-1-0 record on heavy.
Race 2 – Adam's Physio & Wellbeing Centre Coffs Mdn Plate
Race type: Maiden, 800m
Map & tempo: Genuine pace. Sweet Enchantress from barrier 1 is the only leader on the map and she's uncontested unless the others run her down. Morebar from barrier 8 and Busterboy from barrier 9 are drawn wide and must work across. The expected pace doesn't suit the handy runners, which means the leader or a hard-ridden closer is the best bet.
Punty read: Morebar is the bet, and it's a win-only bet at $2.25 for $15. The expected pace is against him, but his sectionals are the quickest in the field, and his last two starts were both held up or bumped. First-up record 2-0-1-0 and a second at Coffs over 1014m in June give him real credentials. Sweet Enchantress has the lead and the market is cooling on her from $4.40 to $3.90, so she's the danger if Morebar gets stuck wide. Ms Wicked Showgirl has been drifting from $5.00 to $6.00, a sign the market has lost interest. Girton is the roughie, and his market has been strongly backed from $23.00 to $13.00 with ear muffs and a lugging bit on first time.
Top 3 + Roughie (Total stake $15.00)
1. Morebar (No.2) — $2.30 / $1.14
Bet $15.00 Win, return $34.50
Prob 44.5% | Place: 70.0% | Value: 1.02x Steady since tip
Why Fastest sectionals in the field and the best recent form in a race with no clear pace. He was held up or bumped at Grafton and Inverell, which tells me the form is better than his last-start finishing positions.
2. Sweet Enchantress (No.10) — $3.90 / $1.55
Bet Tracked
Prob 14.9% | Place: 46.1% | Value: 0.58x Steady since tip
Why A real chance — but at $1.55 the place the numbers don't give me enough edge to insure with. Watching, not betting.
3. Ms Wicked Showgirl (No.8) — $6.00 / $1.90
Bet Tracked
Prob 11.2% | Place: 46.1% | Value: 0.67x Steady since tip
Why Drifting from $5.00 to $6.00, and her last two starts were interference and a slow start. Watch her, don't back her.
Roughie: Girton (No.7) — $13.00 / $3.00
Bet Tracked
Prob 6.2% | Place: 27.8% | Value: 0.80x Steady since tip
Why Two gear changes on first time (ear muffs and lugging bit) and a market that has been backing him in from $23.00 to $13.00. He's a long shot on one career start, so he needs the race to fall his way.
Race 3 – Bonville Plumbing Hcp (C2)
Race type: Class 2, 1300m
Map & tempo: Slow pace. Introducing from barrier 5 and City Of Tears from barrier 3 are the likeliest to find the front, but nobody is a sure leader. Youwroteuponit is midfield from barrier 1, and he's the one the expected pace is against. Benriach and Millennium Prayer are both backmarkers, and Millennium Prayer is drawn wide at barrier 6, so she needs cover and a strong run late.
Punty read: Youwroteuponit is the Win bet at $1.75, and I'm not pretending that's a generous price. The reason I'm backing him is the form: third at Port Macquarie over 1100m last start, third at Coffs over 1200m before that, and his 1st-up record is 3-2-1-0. The finishing sectional is the fastest in the field, so if the pace stays slow, he'll be the one coming late. Luke Rolls has a 14.1% strike rate with Cassandra Schmidt together. City Of Tears is the danger on the lead, with an 8th at Coffs over 808m and a 5th at Coffs over 1014m with a wide run. Benriach has firmed from $7.00 to $6.00, and he's the one the market is backing. Introducing is the roughie, with blinkers off again and a nose roll on first time. Millennium Prayer has 0 wins from 8 starts on heavy with three seconds, so she's always close but never there.
Top 3 + Roughie (Total stake $15.00)
1. Youwroteuponit (No.2) — $1.80 / $1.13
Bet $15.00 Win, return $27.00
Prob 45.9% | Place: 63.2% | Value: 0.83x Steady since tip
Why Strong recent form, a 3-2-1-0 first-up record and the fastest finishing sectional in the field. The price is short, but this is the one I'd rather back than the others in the race.
2. City Of Tears (No.4) — $3.60 / $1.65
Bet Tracked
Prob 19.2% | Place: 46.1% | Value: 0.69x Steady since tip
Why Only two places paid in a field this size, and skinny place divvies make savers a mug's game — this is a win-only race. Tracked, not staked.
3. Benriach (No.6) — $6.00 / $2.40
Bet Tracked
Prob 16.8% | Place: 38.9% | Value: 1.01x Steady since tip
Why Heavy 4:0-0-0 and sectionals ranked second for last 600m and 400m. Still no win on heavy in four starts, so the number isn't enough for a bet here.
Roughie: Introducing (No.3) — $19.00 / $4.20
Bet Tracked
Prob 2.4% | Place: 7.8% | Value: 0.46x Steady since tip
Why If the race sets up for a lead-and-hold, Introducing from barrier 5 has the speed to get the trip. Blinkers off again, nose roll on first time, and the price has drifted from $19.00 onward.
Race 4 – Coffs Harbour Bearing Centre (Bm50)
Race type: Benchmark 50, 1600m
Map & tempo: Slow pace. Mammoth Mountain from barrier 1 is the only one the map puts up front, and he'll be the one setting the speed if nobody else wants it. Raised By Wolves and Class Revolution both sit at the back from barriers 3 and 6, and Class Revolution needs cover at barrier 6. Cats Quarters from barrier 5 is also drawn wide and needs to be ridden out of trouble. Dancing Tilda is the one the expected pace hurts most.
Punty read: No selections in this race. Prices are not up yet and I'm not putting money on a race with no market yet. Mammoth Mountain is the one to watch from the front. He has three wins from 18 starts at this distance, so his trip is proven, and he's the danger if the race stays slow. Raised By Wolves tops my numbers at 24.3%, and he's the horse I'll look at once the prices settle. Class Revolution has the fastest last-600 and last-400 sectionals in the field, which is the sort of thing that wins a slow race late. Cats Quarters has 0 wins from 2 starts at 57 to 57kg, so the weight history is a warning sign.
Top 3 + Roughie (Total stake $0.00)
No picks this race. Bet: No Bet, No active runners.
Race 5 – Coffs Harbour Hardwoods (Bm50)
Race type: Benchmark 50, 1000m
Map & tempo: Moderate pace with two leaders. Spills from barrier 4 and Bianco Nero from barrier 5 are both on the lead and will fight for it. Havieron from barrier 9 has to work wide and Nakama from barrier 10 is last at the start. The expected pace suits the runners settling further back, while the two on the lead are hurt by it. This is a race for the closers if the leaders go hard.
Punty read: No selections in this race. Watch She's A Wild One, who is at the top of my numbers at 26.6% and sits handy from barrier 3 with Ben Looker riding. Spills and Not So Dubious both have blinkers off first time, and Spills is 15kg up from last start, which is a big jump in weight for a horse coming off a spell. Nakama has blinkers off again and was bumped in his last run at Taree. Prices aren't up yet, so this race is a wait-and-see.
Top 3 + Roughie (Total stake $0.00)
No picks this race. Bet: No Bet, No active runners.
NUGGETS FROM THE TRACK
1 - Girton's gear and market
Ear muffs and a lugging bit go on for the first time, and the market has backed him from $23.00 to $13.00. That's a horse that someone has been told something about, or at least someone thinks the change will work.
2 - The first-up record that matters
Morebar's first-up record is 2-0-1-0 and Youwroteuponit's is 3-2-1-0. Both are fitness and form horses first-up, so the race shape is the only thing standing between them and a day of winning.
3 - Millennium Prayer's heavy problem
She has 0 wins from 8 starts on heavy, with three seconds and a third, and she's drifted from $34.00 to $41.00 this week. She's a horse who finishes close and never quite gets there, the racing equivalent of the bloke who always gets second in the office quiz.
FINAL WORD FROM THE SICKO SANCTUARY
Today is a day for patience and a clear head. Back the three bets, leave the rest alone, and let the card come to you. If Race 4 and Race 5 are still quiet at the jump, that's the card telling you to sit on your hands.
