For all of Punty's tips for Doomben, head to https://punty.ai/tips/doomben-2026-10-31

Rightio Degenerates, Doomben is sitting on a Heavy 8 after 96mm in the last seven days, so this is a card for people who can read a mud map and not just a price list. Half the field has never won on a wet track, the speed is spread across the card like cheap sunscreen, and the favourites are shorter than my patience. Grab a coffee, get comfortable, and let's go through it.

MEET SNAPSHOT

Track: Doomben, 1050m to 2020m card
Rail: +3m Entire Course
Official going: Heavy 8 (96mm last 7 days, nil last 24hrs)
Weather: Fine, live gusts 18.5km/h
Early lane guess: unknown pre-race, watch the first two

Tempo profile: Mostly genuine or slow, with the speed concentrated in a handful of races. Race 1, 2 and 5 are slow-pace affairs where the back half can be a problem. Race 3, 7 and 9 have a moderate or genuine tempo that rewards the handy runners. Race 4, 6, 8 and 10 are genuine with a single leader or two at the head of the pack, so the shape is set up for the sitters and closers.
Jockeys to follow:
Ben E Thompson: Ten rides, including Ghost Gum, Win Star, Thinkhardandfast, Cardonette, Groening and Toro Strike. His last 100 rides here are running at 27% (J-HOT), so he's the one most likely to be riding in the right spots today.
Daniel Moor: Eight rides, including Kickup Rocky, So Fortunate and Don'tcha Think. His last 100 rides here sit at 17% (J-HOT), and Kickup Rocky is the one I'm most keen to see him on.
Bella Youngberry: Nine rides, including Ten Deep, Zoufani and Wootton You Know. She's teamed with T J Gollan for a combo of 30.5% (25 from 82) on Ten Deep, which is a stat worth remembering.
Stables to respect:
T J Gollan (14 runners): The biggest stable on the card by a mile. Ten Deep, Duke Of Camden, Hell and Now Is The Hour are all out of the same yard, and the Ten Deep and Duke Of Camden tickets lean on it.
R L Heathcote (5 runners): Fabulantes, Celestial Blaze, Carbonara, Amuseantes and Ser Joh. Five runners across the card and two of them are in the Race 10 mix.
M J Dunn (4 runners): Millennium Blade, Another Cashie and Sparkling Betty are the stable's best chances, and Millennium Blade is the roughie to watch in Race 4.

Punty's take: Doomben is a bit of a head-scratcher today. The sprints from Race 1 through 5 are where the pace puzzles live, and Race 1 is the one where the front is up for grabs. Better Be Done is the only runner the map sees finding the lead, and drawn wide at barrier 8 it has to earn it. Race 2 is the Win Star show with a NTD field, and Race 3 is the one where Thinkhardandfast sits handy and the shape is in its corner. Race 4 is chaos with a capital C. Cardonette is the favourite at $2.30 but the shape works against it, so I'll keep an eye on how the ones in the middle run. Race 5 is the Kickup Rocky story, a horse that has won three straight and is being asked to come from the back in a slow-pace race, which is a fair question. The later races, 6 through 10, are the real meat of the card. Race 7 is the cleanest banker-type race on the card with Toro Strike and Duke Of Camden, and Race 8 and 10 are the ones where the favourite is short and the chance is wide open. Race 9 is where the genuine pace and the wide draws set up a fun trip for Fleetwood.

What it means for you: Be aggressive in Race 1 and Race 3 where the shape gives the staked picks a fair go, and keep your powder dry in Race 4 and Race 8 where the favourite is in trouble on the map. Race 2 is a banker-style race built around Win Star, but the price is short, so the value is in the place bets rather than chasing the win. The early quaddie and the main quaddie both have a lot of open legs, so the tickets are built to be wide and cheap per combo. I'd rather spread a little more and keep the bigger swings in the sequences than blow the whole budget on one race.

PUNTY'S BIG 3 + MULTI

These are the three bets the day leans on.

1 - Win Star (Race 2, No.1) — $1.67
Why Win Star has won at this track and has the sharpest sectional figures in the field, with fastest times across the last 600 and 400 metres. The price is short, but it's the strongest single chance I can see on the card.

2 - Ghost Gum (Race 1, No.1) — $3.00
Why Ben E Thompson is on a horse that ran third at Eagle Farm last start on a heavy 9, and the sectionals show the fastest last 400 metres. It's a slow-pace race where the draw and the shape suit a runner that doesn't need to lead.

3 - Kickup Rocky (Race 5, No.1) — $3.00
Why Three straight wins going into this, including the Eagle Farm 1300m last start, and Daniel Moor is riding. The shape is against it from barrier 8, but the form is the best on the card at this level and I'm happy to take the risk.

Multi (all three to win): $10 × 15.03 = $150.30

Race 1 – Ladbrokes Spring Racing Carnival Hcp

Race type: Open, 1050m
Map & tempo: Slow pace on paper, and Better Be Done is the horse most likely to take the front from barrier 8, which means it has to work to cross. Ghost Gum sits back from barrier 2 and the shape helps it (map factor 1.08), so it can ride a nice trip without being asked to lead. The early speed is limited, so the race will be decided by who comes off the pace when the tempo drops.
Punty read: Ghost Gum is the bet, and the case is simple. It's a good horse on a heavy track with a third at Eagle Farm last start, a fast closing sectional, and a jockey who is running hot. The 2kg weight rise is the one question mark. Katsuko and La Bella Queen are the danger runners, with La Bella Queen having ear muffs on for the first time today. Crescendoed is the roughie and I like it at a bigger price on the place, because the place chance is far better than the win chance.

Top 3 + Roughie ($12.50 pool)

1. Ghost Gum (No.1) — $3.00 / $1.25
Bet $12.50 Win, return $37.50
Prob 37.3% | Place: 70.0% | Value: 1.12x Steady since tip
Why Heavy 9 third at Eagle Farm last start, and the sectionals are as good as they come. A back-half runner in a slow race is exactly where he wants to be, and Ben E Thompson is one of the hottest riders on the card.
2. Katsuko (No.2) — $3.40 / $1.37
Bet Tracked
Prob 15.9% | Place: 46.1% | Value: 0.54x Steady since tip
Why A real chance — but at $1.37 the place the numbers don't give me enough edge to insure with. Watching, not betting.
3. La Bella Queen (No.7) — $4.00 / $1.50
Bet Tracked
Prob 14.4% | Place: 46.1% | Value: 0.58x Steady since tip
Why Her last start was a 1st at Dalby, and she's got ear muffs on for the first time today. That's enough to make her a danger, not a bet.

Roughie: Crescendoed (No.5) — $10.00 / $2.55
Bet Tracked
Prob 11.8% | Place: 46.1% | Value: 1.17x Steady since tip
Why If the speed sits up front and the race becomes a sprint for the line, Crescendoed can run on from midfield. The place is the play, and the price on the place is the reason for the bet.

Race 2 – Drinkwise Hcp

Race type: Open, 2020m
Map & tempo: Slow pace, with So Fortunate from barrier 1 and Webinar from barrier 6 likely to fight for the front. Win Star sits back from barrier 2 and the shape helps it (map factor 1.08), and May The Force, from the midfield, gets a sweet run without being asked to go forward. Your Attitude and Tisani James are the back-half runners the shape doesn't help.
Punty read: Win Star is the horse I'd back to win this, and it's a short price for good reason. Three wins from the last 10 at this distance, a 1600m win last start, and the fastest closing sectional in the field. The 6kg rise is the only real question, and the record at lighter weights is the answer. Your Attitude is the danger on form but the shape is against it, and So Fortunate is the roughie with blinkers on for the first time.

Top 3 + Roughie ($15.00 pool)

1. Win Star (No.1) — $1.67 / $1.07
Bet $15.00 Win, return $25.05
Prob 51.5% | Place: 70.0% | Value: 0.86x Steady since tip
Why Fastest last 600 and 400 metres, the 1600m win last start, and the handy draw. The best horse on the card, and the price shows it.
2. Your Attitude (No.2) — $3.55 / $1.55
Bet Tracked
Prob 26.0% | Place: 59.9% | Value: 0.92x Steady since tip
Why Only two places paid in a field this size, and skinny place divvies make savers a mug's game — this is a win-only race. Tracked, not staked.
3. May The Force (No.5) — $5.70 / $2.15
Bet Tracked
Prob 12.0% | Place: 34.1% | Value: 0.68x Steady since tip
Why Second at Doomben last start and a ticket-puncher in this field, but the field is too small to justify another stake.

Roughie: So Fortunate (No.6) — $12.00 / $3.40
Bet Tracked
Prob 7.1% | Place: 24.1% | Value: 0.86x Steady since tip
Why Blinkers on for the first time and a 1st at Grafton last start. If the front pair go too hard, the sitting handy spot might find a crack.

Race 3 – XXXX (Bm85)

Race type: Benchmark 85, 2020m
Map & tempo: Moderate pace with four or more runners in the mix for the lead, so the front is contested. Thinkhardandfast sits handy from barrier 1 and the shape helps it (map factor 1.17), and Our Anchorage and Ring Bearer have the same shape. Beau Dazzler and Malecon are midfield runners the shape hurts, and Awaygoesthebunny and Becamo are the back-half runners that need cover.
Punty read: Thinkhardandfast is the bet. Four wins from 19 starts, a 1st-up record of 1-2-1 from 5, and a dist record of 1-0-0 at 2020m. The jockey is hot and the market is firming, with the price down from $6.00 to $4.50. The weight warning is real (0/6 winning at 54-58kg), and that's the one thing that makes this a bet and not a banker. Becamo and Awaygoesthebunny are the danger runners at the bigger end, and Beau Dazzler from the roughie spot gets a tongue tie back on.

Top 3 + Roughie ($7.50 pool)

1. Thinkhardandfast (No.9) — $4.60 / $1.75
Bet $7.50 Win, return $34.50
Prob 20.7% | Place: 46.1% | Value: 0.95x Steady since tip
Why Handy from barrier 1, the shape helps, Ben E Thompson is riding and the market has backed him in from $6.00.
2. Becamo (No.7) — $5.00 / $1.85
Bet Tracked
Prob 14.2% | Place: 46.1% | Value: 0.71x Steady since tip
Why A real chance — but at $1.85 the place the numbers don't give me enough edge to insure with. Watching, not betting.
3. Awaygoesthebunny (No.6) — $6.00 / $2.00
Bet Tracked
Prob 13.8% | Place: 46.1% | Value: 0.83x Steady since tip
Why Won at Gold Coast 1800m last start off a 1st-up record of 0-0-1. The shape is against him from the back, and the price is too short to back.

Roughie: Beau Dazzler (No.4) — $11.00 / $3.00
Bet Tracked
Prob 7.7% | Place: 29.3% | Value: 0.84x Steady since tip
Why Tongue tie on again and a heavy-track record of 1 win from 6. He needs the front pair to tire, so he's the one to watch if the race gets messy.

Race 4 – Civilpipes Hcp (65)

Race type: Restricted 65, 1200m
Map & tempo: Genuine pace with Hello Lovely as the only leader, and the back-half runners need the race to break up. Mercatello, Rose Of Shiraz and Carbonara are the handy runners the shape helps, and Cardonette is the back-half runner the shape works against. Another Cashie and Il Fratello sit midfield and the shape helps them.
Punty read: Cardonette is the favourite at $2.30 and I'm backing him to win, because the form is too strong to ignore. Two wins and a 2nd at Doomben from the last three, a 1st-up record of 1-2-0, and jockey Ben E Thompson is hot. The shape is against him from the back, so the winning path is a messy race where the leaders come back to him. Il Fratello and Another Cashie are the danger runners, with Il Fratello firming from $8.00 to $6.50. Millennium Blade is the roughie.

Top 3 + Roughie ($4.50 pool)

1. Cardonette (No.11) — $2.45 / $1.32
Bet $4.50 Win, return $11.03
Prob 22.3% | Place: 53.8% | Value: 0.55x Steady since tip
Why Two wins from the last three, his last start was a 2nd at Doomben 1110m, and the shape against him is the reason the price is short. He wins it if the leaders go too hard, and that's a fair chance at a Restricted 65.
2. Il Fratello (No.10) — $6.50 / $2.40
Bet Tracked
Prob 13.9% | Place: 46.1% | Value: 0.90x Steady since tip
Why A real chance — but at $2.40 the place the numbers don't give me enough edge to insure with. Watching, not betting.
3. Another Cashie (No.9) — $6.50 / $2.40
Bet Tracked
Prob 9.4% | Place: 36.8% | Value: 0.61x Steady since tip
Why Ear muffs on for the first time, and a midfield runner the shape helps. He's a danger, but not a bet.

Roughie: Millennium Blade (No.5) — $9.50 / $3.10
Bet Tracked
Prob 9.0% | Place: 32.7% | Value: 0.86x Steady since tip
Why The market is firming and the sectional is fastest, which is a real thing to note. He's on the speed in a genuine pace race, so if Hello Lovely gets run down he can run on.

Race 5 – Sky Racing Hcp

Race type: Open, 1350m
Map & tempo: Slow pace with Ever So Ready and Wootton You Know likely to fight for the front. Groening, Amourette and Sparkling Betty sit midfield and the shape helps them, while Kickup Rocky is the back-half runner the shape works against. Duke Of Albemarle is the backmarker who can run on if the front fight falls apart.
Punty read: Kickup Rocky is the bet. Three straight wins going into this, a Class 6 record of 2-0-0, and Daniel Moor riding with a hot run at the track. The shape is against him from barrier 8, so the path to a win is a genuine run in the straight from the back, and the form says he has the turn of foot to do it. Groening is the danger from midfield, and Duke Of Albemarle can sneak in. Wootton You Know is the roughie with a 1st-up record of 1-3-0.

Top 3 + Roughie ($15.00 pool)

1. Kickup Rocky (No.1) — $3.10 / $1.37
Bet $15.00 Win, return $46.50
Prob 30.1% | Place: 61.5% | Value: 0.93x Steady since tip
Why Three straight wins including the Eagle Farm 1300m last start, and the Class 6 record is 2 wins from 2. He's the form horse and the shape is the only worry.
2. Groening (No.7) — $3.60 / $1.50
Bet Tracked
Prob 17.0% | Place: 46.1% | Value: 0.61x Steady since tip
Why A real chance — but at $1.50 the place the numbers don't give me enough edge to insure with. Watching, not betting.
3. Duke Of Albemarle (No.3) — $5.20 / $1.72
Bet Tracked
Prob 15.5% | Place: 46.1% | Value: 0.81x Steady since tip
Why A backmarker in a slow race is exactly where the shape helps him. The place price doesn't justify a bet.

Roughie: Wootton You Know (No.5) — $14.00 / $3.30
Bet Tracked
Prob 9.4% | Place: 34.1% | Value: 1.32x Steady since tip
Why Sits on the speed and the jockey is hot. If Ever So Ready and the leaders hold on for the first half, he can hang in there.

Race 6 – Canadian Club (Rs0mw)

Race type: Rest 0 Metro Wins, 1200m
Map & tempo: Genuine pace with Zoufani as the only leader and True Amor on the speed from barrier 11. Scheherazade settles midfield from barrier 8 and the shape helps it (map factor 1.25), so it gets a nice trip without having to be asked to go forward. Midnight Spirit and Champagne Lane have the same shape, and Lion Class is the back-half runner the shape doesn't help.
Punty read: Scheherazade is the bet, each way. The form is a 1st at Gold Coast 1000m last start, a Good record of 2-1-1 from five, and Dylan Turner is on board with a combo with Stephen McLean of 36.4% (4 from 11). The price is short at $4.80 but the shape is in its favour from midfield. Champagne Lane is the danger with blinkers on for the first time, and Abender is the one who can sneak in from the back with the best place value on the card. True Amor is the roughie.

Top 3 + Roughie ($2.50 pool)

1. Scheherazade (No.6) — $4.80 / $1.95
Bet $2.50 Each Way ($1.25W + $1.25P), collects $8.44 if it wins ($6.00 win + $2.44 place), $2.44 if it only places
Prob 16.6% | Place: 46.1% | Value: 0.80x Steady since tip
Why A Gold Coast 1st last start, a midfield runner the shape helps, and a Good track record that stands up. The each way covers the place risk.
2. Champagne Lane (No.11) — $4.20 / $1.80
Bet Tracked
Prob 16.6% | Place: 46.1% | Value: 0.70x Steady since tip
Why The top pick's each-way already covers the place angle here — doubling up is paying twice for the same insurance. Tracked instead.
3. Abender (No.8) — $6.00 / $2.25
Bet Tracked
Prob 16.0% | Place: 46.1% | Value: 0.96x Steady since tip
Why A 3rd at Eagle Farm last start from the back, and the place value is strong. He's a danger the place market is underrating.

Roughie: True Amor (No.1) — $9.00 / $2.90
Bet Tracked
Prob 9.1% | Place: 32.7% | Value: 0.82x Steady since tip
Why Ryan Maloney rides a horse with a Class 4 record of 3-0-0 and wins at this distance. He's on the speed from a wide draw, so he has to get the early running right.

Race 7 – Century Pools (Bm70)

Race type: Benchmark 70, 1615m
Map & tempo: Moderate pace with Celestial Blaze, Don'tcha Think and Duke Of Camden all in the lead fight. Duke Of Camden is the one the shape helps (1.17), and Toro Strike settles midfield from barrier 11 with the shape working against it. Streak Of Winning, The Catch and Toro Strike are the back-half runners that need the race to break up.
Punty read: Toro Strike is the bet. The form is a 3rd at Doomben 1600m last start, a 1st at Doomben 1660m the start before, and Ben E Thompson is riding a jockey-trainer combo with Jack Bruce that runs at 24.4% (50 from 205) with a last 100 rate of 32%. The shape is against him from midfield, and the weight warning (1/6 at 54-57kg) is the thing to watch. Duke Of Camden is the danger on the speed with the best map position, and Headhunter is the one who can run on from midfield.

Top 3 + Roughie ($7.50 pool)

1. Toro Strike (No.9) — $3.60 / $1.62
Bet $7.50 Win, return $27.00
Prob 22.2% | Place: 52.4% | Value: 0.80x Steady since tip
Why Doomben 1660m 1st, a 3rd last start, and the Ben E Thompson combo has been on fire. He's the one the shape works against, and that's the reason the price is short, not the form.
2. Duke Of Camden (No.8) — $3.80 / $1.65
Bet Tracked
Prob 21.0% | Place: 46.1% | Value: 0.80x Steady since tip
Why A real chance — but at $1.65 the place the numbers don't give me enough edge to insure with. Watching, not betting.
3. Headhunter (No.11) — $6.50 / $2.40
Bet Tracked
Prob 12.8% | Place: 45.6% | Value: 0.83x Steady since tip
Why Placed at Doomben three times in the last four. A good horse at the track, but the place price is too short.

Roughie: Celestial Blaze (No.6) — $11.00 / $3.20
Bet Tracked
Prob 5.9% | Place: 24.2% | Value: 0.65x Steady since tip
Why Sectional time rank 2 and an 8-10 win-place record on the track. If the early speed goes too hard he's the one to roll through the field.

Race 8 – Higgins Coatings Hcp (C6)

Race type: Class 6, 1615m
Map & tempo: Genuine pace with Atmosphere the only leader from barrier 3, and Blazen Boots is the handy runner the shape helps. Atmosphere is the one the shape works against, and the back-half runners need cover from Fabulantes, Last Command and Worthy Enuff.
Punty read: Atmosphere is the bet on the speed, and the price is short because the form is strong. Two 2nd-placed runs at Eagle Farm from the last three, a heavy-track record of 1-3-1 from six, and Ron Stewart is riding on a horse with a T-HOT trainer behind it. The shape is the risk, but the leaders are rarely caught in a Class 6 when the track is heavy. Fabulantes is the danger from the back, and Last Command is the one with cross-over nose band on for the first time.

Top 3 + Roughie ($4.50 pool)

1. Atmosphere (No.3) — $4.20 / $1.75
Bet $4.50 Win, return $18.90
Prob 18.5% | Place: 46.1% | Value: 0.78x Steady since tip
Why The only leader in a race where the front is uncontested, and the heavy record is 1-3-1 from six. The shape works against him, but the form and the stable make the bet.
2. Fabulantes (No.2) — $5.20 / $2.00
Bet Tracked
Prob 17.6% | Place: 46.1% | Value: 0.92x Steady since tip
Why A real chance — but at $2.00 the place the numbers don't give me enough edge to insure with. Watching, not betting.
3. Last Command (No.5) — $5.70 / $2.15
Bet Tracked
Prob 12.8% | Place: 38.6% | Value: 0.73x Steady since tip
Why A 2nd at Eagle Farm last start and a jockey who runs hot. The visors are off again, so he's a danger but not a bet.

Roughie: Worthy Enuff (No.9) — $13.00 / $3.60
Bet Tracked
Prob 7.9% | Place: 29.3% | Value: 1.03x Steady since tip
Why Placed three times from 16 starts and a T-HOT trainer behind him. He's the back-half runner that gets the trip if the pace is genuine.

Race 9 – Cricks Highway Hcp

Race type: Open, 1110m
Map & tempo: Genuine pace with Now Is The Hour the only leader from barrier 8. Fleetwood sits midfield from barrier 11 and the shape helps it (map factor 1.16), while About To Explode and Bring Me Kash also get a sweet spot in midfield. Flying Destiny and Blitzburg are the handy runners that need the front to hold up.
Punty read: Fleetwood is the bet, each way. A 2nd at Eagle Farm last start from the same barrier range, and a heavy-track record of 2-1-0 from three. The shape helps him from midfield and the market has backed him from $7.50 to $5.00. The weight warning (0/5 at 58-60kg) is the one red flag and I'm taking the risk. About To Explode is the danger with a 1st at Doomben last start, and Now Is The Hour is the leader who can hang on.

Top 3 + Roughie ($15.00 pool)

1. Fleetwood (No.3) — $5.50 / $1.95
Bet $15.00 Each Way ($7.50W + $7.50P), collects $55.88 if it wins ($41.25 win + $14.63 place), $14.63 if it only places
Prob 20.5% | Place: 46.1% | Value: 1.13x Steady since tip
Why A 2nd at Eagle Farm last start from barrier 11, the shape helps him, and the market is backing him in. The each way covers the place chance well.
2. About To Explode (No.2) — $5.50 / $2.10
Bet Tracked
Prob 18.9% | Place: 46.1% | Value: 1.04x Steady since tip
Why The top pick's each-way already covers the place angle here — doubling up is paying twice for the same insurance. Tracked instead.
3. Now Is The Hour (No.10) — $3.30 / $1.57
Bet Tracked
Prob 14.9% | Place: 46.1% | Value: 0.49x Steady since tip
Why The only leader on the card and a T-HOT trainer behind him. He's a danger if the race sets up for the front.

Roughie: Bring Me Kash (No.8) — $13.00 / $3.30
Bet Tracked
Prob 9.4% | Place: 33.2% | Value: 1.22x Steady since tip
Why A 1st at Eagle Farm last start and the market is backing him, with a heavy-track record of one win from one start. The sectionals are the bit to watch, and he's a roughie with a real path.

Race 10 – Ladbrokes Tote In +10% In October (Bm85)

Race type: Benchmark 85, 1350m
Map & tempo: Genuine pace with Hell the only leader from barrier 7. Ten Deep sits handy from barrier 5 and the shape is against him (map factor 0.87), while Amuseantes and Tonneofgrit come from the back. Chief In Charge is the midfield runner the shape doesn't help but who can run on from the back of the field.
Punty read: Ten Deep is the bet, and the favourite is short because the form is strong. A 2nd at Doomben 1350m last start, a Good track record of 3-3-2 from 12, and the combo with T J Gollan is a 30.5% strike rate. The shape is against him from handy, so the path to winning is a race where Hell is run down and Ten Deep is on the bit late. Amuseantes is the danger at a bigger price, and Chief In Charge is the value runner that can get the trip. Ser Joh is the roughie with a 1st-up record of 0-4-1.

Top 3 + Roughie ($15.00 pool)

1. Ten Deep (No.7) — $2.90 / $1.45
Bet $15.00 Win, return $43.50
Prob 19.3% | Place: 53.7% | Value: 0.56x Steady since tip
Why A 2nd at Doomben 1350m last start on the same track and distance. The shape is against him from handy, but the form and the stable make a strong case.
2. Amuseantes (No.12) — $5.50 / $2.10

Prob 15.9% | Place: 46.1% | Value: 0.87x Steady since tip
Why A real chance — but at $2.10 the place the numbers don't give me enough edge to insure with. Watching, not betting.
3. Chief In Charge (No.11) — $7.00 / $2.50
Bet Tracked
Prob 15.2% | Place: 45.1% | Value: 1.06x Steady since tip
Why Four wins from 15 starts and a Class 1 record of 0-0-1. A value runner in midfield, but the place price doesn't justify a bet.

Roughie: Ser Joh (No.6) — $9.50 / $2.85
Bet Tracked
Prob 9.7% | Place: 33.3% | Value: 0.92x Steady since tip
Why Sits on the speed and Ben E Thompson is riding. If the leaders go too hard, the back of the pack gets a chance to grab a place.

SEQUENCE LANES

EARLY QUADDIE (R3–R6)

Smart: 6,9,7,4 / 11,10,9,5 / 1,7,3 / 8,11,6,1 (192 combos x $0.33854 = $65.00) -- 33.9% flexi
Punty's take: Race 5 is the tight leg with Kickup Rocky and Groening, and Race 4 is the open one with Cardonette at the top of the list. The overall risk is high, and the flexi is 33.9%, so a smart winner or two can make it pay well. It's a wide ticket built for the chaos legs.

QUADDIE (R7–R10)

Smart: 9,8,11 / 2,3,5,9 / 3,2,10,8 / 7,12,11,6 (192 combos x $0.33854 = $65.00) -- 33.9% flexi
Punty's take: Race 7 is the tightest leg with Toro Strike, Duke Of Camden and Headhunter, while Races 8 and 10 are open. The risk is high and the flexi is 33.9%, which is a solid play for a card that's chaotic in the back half.

BIG 6 (R5–R10)

Smart: 1,7,3,5 / 8,11,6,1 / 9,8,11,6 / 2,3,5,9 / 3,2,10,8 / 7,12,11,6 (4096 combos x $0.00122 = $5.00) -- 0.12% flexi
Punty's take: Entertainment only. Five open legs out of six and a flexi of 0.12% means this ticket is a lottery, so keep the stake at the level you'd spend on a sausage roll.

NUGGETS FROM THE TRACK

1 - Northern Decree goes blinkers off and winkers on
Northern Decree in Race 7 has blinkers removed for the first time and winkers put on for the first time. It's a rare double change, so the market can tell you more than I can.

2 - Super Duck is back from 181 days off with bandages on
Super Duck in Race 9 is first-up after 181 days and has a first-up record of 6:1-0-0. Bandages on the hind legs are on for the first time, so the trainer is clearly trying something.

3 - Kaizad is the write-your-own-ticket runner
Kaizad is at $126.00 in Race 10, which is a price that says the bookies have written off any chance. If you're chasing a long shot at the back end of the card, that's your roughie to laugh at.

THE DEGEN DEN

Heavy 8 is a mud pit and the speed is a shambles, so it's the card where a sharp read beats a fat wallet. Mark your ticket, back the staked picks, and enjoy the chaos of the back half. See you at the rail.
