Rightio Sickos, Gawler is a Good 4 with the rail out +3m Entire and seven races from 1100m to 2112m, and the maps are telling a story. Speed is thin on the card, three races look like they'll go slow, and the Big 3 has a bit of everything in it: a red-hot short-priced favourite, a sprinter who can hit the line, and a bloke coming back from interference. Let's get into it.

MEET SNAPSHOT

Track: Gawler, 1100m to 2112m card
Rail: +3m Entire
Official going: Good 4 (Nil last 24hrs, 15mm last 7 days)
Weather: Cloud clearing, 19°C, humidity 40%, wind 18km/h WSW, gusts 29.6km/h
Early lane guess: unknown pre-race, watch the first two
Tempo profile: Genuine pace in Races 1, 3, 5 and 7, Slow pace in Races 2 and 4, Moderate pace in Race 6. The only real speed on the card sits in the first few races, so the smart money is on horses that can dictate or sit handy when the field goes slow.
Jockeys to follow:
Ms Lauren Stojakovic: five rides today, the most on the card. She's on Tan Tat Gold, Wild Is The Wind, Elegant Lilly, Madam Jeanette and Dodd.
Jake Toeroek: three rides, including Green Summer in Race 4. His J-HOT tag is 19.0% over his last 100 rides, so he's in form.
Jason Holder: three rides, including Maysoonfly in Race 3 at a 13.8% strike rate at this track (926/6693).
Stables to respect:
Shane & Cassie Oxlade (4 runners): Elegant Lilly, Madam Jeanette, The Punk Rocker and Dodd. Four bites of the cherry and the best of them is Madam Jeanette on the lead in Race 5.
Kristi Evans (3 runners): Whoops A Daisy, Mr Ribtickler and Camooweal Girl. Whoops A Daisy is one of my Big 3 and a stable with three chances today.
S P Gower (2 runners): Super Choice and Green Summer. Green Summer is the second leg of my Big 3 and the best-priced winner on this card.

Punty's take: The speed map on this card is short on pure pace, which means the races are going to be decided by who can settle, not who can sprint. Race 1 is the banker. Nunya is the only leader on the map and nobody else in that field wants the front, so he'll get to dictate on his own terms even with the expected pace against him. Race 2 is a Slow Pace race with Artful Maximus and Fear The Zou the likeliest to find the lead. That's a race where a midfield runner who can finish fast in a slow race becomes dangerous. Race 4 is the other slow one, and Caer Ibormeith on the speed is the only horse the shape really helps up front. Green Summer, sitting back, is the horse that gets the most out of a pace that sits still. Race 6 is the ratbag race: Moderate pace, nine runners on the speed or handy, and the field is open enough that I'd be shocked if it went to the lone leader. The stables count here too. Oxlade has four runners and a Madam Jeanette who looks a real leader in Race 5.

What it means for you: Be aggressive where the shape is clear. Race 1 is a tight ticket if you want one, and Race 4 is the best bet of the day with the shape and the form lining up for Green Summer. Protect yourself in the chaos races: Race 2 and Race 6 are open, so keep your stakes in the places where the value sits and don't chase a parade of short-priced favourites. Race 5 is where you should put the most thought. Whoops A Daisy is the one I'm backing and the map says the shape is against him, but his Gawler form and sectional record say he can win it anyway.

PUNTY'S BIG 3 + MULTI

These are the three bets the day leans on.

1 - Nunya (Race 1, No.4) — $1.60
Why The only leader on the map from barrier 4, no pressure from anything worth worrying about and two seconds from his last two starts. The map has the pace against him, but it's his race to lose.
2 - Green Summer (Race 4, No.1) — $1.83
Why Slow pace in a 2112m race and the map says the shape helps the backmarker. Ran third at Gawler 1700m last time out beaten 1.2L, and Jake Toeroek has been hot on him.
3 - Whoops A Daisy (Race 5, No.5) — $2.72
Why Gawler form is the reason. He ran second at Gawler 1100m beaten 0.7L and his sectional data reads fastest on time. Handy from barrier 1 and the shape is against him, but the form is strong enough to beat it.

Multi (all three to win): $10 × 7.96 = $79.60

Race 1 – Gawler & Barossa Mdn Plate

Race type: Maiden, 1706m
Map & tempo: Genuine pace on paper, but Nunya is the only leader from barrier 4 and Ateyate from barrier 6 is the nearest pressure. Ateyate sits handy and gets the trail, while Majestic Moshe in barrier 7 is drawn wide and needs cover. The expected pace is against Nunya, so he has to win it from the front on his own strength.
Punty read: Nunya is the bet and I'm happy to put $14 on him. He has no wins from four starts, but he's run three seconds and two of those came last start at Murray Bridge (2nd, beaten 1.8L) and before that at Halidon (2nd, beaten 0.7L). The map has the expected pace against him, but he's the only leader on the card in this race and Jackson Murphy has a 8.3% strike rate at this track that he'll be happy to use. Ateyate is the danger: he's ridden by Connor Murtagh and his last three runs (5th, 5th, 3rd) show he's close without the win. Mizzen Jib is a horse to watch from the back if the leader gets too much rope. Majestic Moshe at $51.00 is one for the cheap seats.

Top 3 + Roughie ($14.00 pool)

1. Nunya (No.4) — $1.60 / $1.07
Bet $14.00 Win, return $22.40
Prob 58.2% | Place: 54.1% | Value: 0.93x ▼3% since tip
Why The only leader and the best winning chance on the card. The shape doesn't suit him but he's got the class and the middle-distance maiden form to win it anyway.
2. Mizzen Jib (No.3) — $6.40 / $1.95
Bet Tracked
Prob 14.4% | Place: 32.7% | Value: 0.92x ▲10% since tip
Why Only two places paid in a field this size, and skinny place divvies make savers a mug's game — this is a win-only race. Tracked, not staked.
3. Ateyate (No.1) — $6.60 / $2.35
Bet Tracked
Prob 12.4% | Place: 32.7% | Value: 0.82x ▼8% since tip
Why Sits handy, sectional data shows his last 600 metres as third-fastest, and Stephen Theodore runs him well. The problem is his last three starts all finished 5th, 5th and 3rd.

Roughie: Mohatu (No.5) — $12.00 / $3.00
Bet Tracked
Prob 6.9% | Place: 22.3% | Value: 0.83x ▲5% since tip
Why Blinkers are back on (again) and a tongue tie goes on for the first time. If Nunya gets run down by the chasers, Mohatu from the back has the sectional kick to get a place.

Race 2 – Contract Engineering Mdn Plate

Race type: Maiden, 1200m
Map & tempo: Slow pace with nobody mapping to lead. Artful Maximus from barrier 14 and Fear The Zou from barrier 1 are the likeliest to find the front, and Artful Maximus has to work from the outside to get there. Khorasan settles midfield from barrier 2 and the expected pace is against him, so he needs to find a gear from the middle of the pack. Little Rocket and Stella's Charm are drawn wide and need cover.
Punty read: Khorasan is the bet, $15.00 each way. His sectional data is the best on the card (fastest on last 600, last 400 and time) and his 10 starts include two seconds and a third. He's midfield in a slow race which is not the ideal spot, but a horse with that sectional speed doesn't need the lead to finish. Artful Maximus is the one I'd respect most in the market: blinkers off for the first time, winkers back on (again), and he's on the speed in a race where the front is up for grabs. Little Rocket is my value play at $5.80, with the second-fastest last 600 metres on the card and a 50% combo with Jake's old trainer on the track.

Top 3 + Roughie ($15.00 pool)

1. Khorasan (No.10) — $4.50 / $1.75
Bet $15.00 Each Way ($7.50W + $7.50P), collects $46.88 if it wins ($33.75 win + $13.13 place), $13.13 if it only places
Prob 21.9% | Place: 70.0% | Value: 0.99x Steady since tip
Why Fastest in the sectionals on last 600, last 400 and time, and he's been close in his 10 starts. The slow pace puts him midfield, which is not ideal, but his sectional speed means he can win from there.
2. Artful Maximus (No.1) — $3.40 / $1.55
Bet Tracked
Prob 21.8% | Place: 70.0% | Value: 0.74x Steady since tip
Why The top pick's each-way already covers the place angle here — doubling up is paying twice for the same insurance. Tracked instead.
3. Little Rocket (No.5) — $5.80 / $2.10
Bet Tracked
Prob 13.8% | Place: 53.8% | Value: 0.80x Steady since tip
Why Ran second at Gawler 1100m last time out beaten 0.2L and has a record of 0-2-3 from 12 starts. He sits midfield from barrier 11 and needs cover, but the sectional kick is there.

Roughie: Bella Zephyr (No.14) — $14.00 / $3.30
Bet Tracked
Prob 5.8% | Place: 29.3% | Value: 0.81x ▲8% since tip
Why Barrier 7 and a 4th at Strathalbyn 1200m in September. If the pace stays slow and the field bunches, she can run into a place from midfield.

Race 3 – Kingsford Hotel Hcp (C1)

Race type: Handicap, 1200m
Map & tempo: Genuine pace with Sir Castleton the only leader from barrier 3. Super Choice from barrier 2 and Elegant Lilly from barrier 6 are the nearest pressure. Candy In Miami is the one who gets the most from this shape, but she's drawn wide at barrier 8. Maysoonfly sits midfield from barrier 4, so the pace is against him, but he can win from there.
Punty read: Maysoonfly is the bet, $10.50 win. He's got 11 starts for one win, three seconds and a third, and Good 10 reads 1-3-1. Last start he finished 4th at Gawler 1200m beaten 1.1L, and the excuse was interference. He's the best tempo rider on the card in a field where the leader is uncontested. Sir Castleton, the leader, is a danger if he slows the race down. Super Choice has the classy handicap form but no late sprint. Kiss And Kaboom at $10.50 is the roughie with real sectionals.

Top 3 + Roughie ($10.50 pool)

1. Maysoonfly (No.4) — $3.25 / $1.35
Bet $10.50 Win, return $34.13
Prob 24.8% | Place: 59.8% | Value: 0.81x Steady since tip
Why Sectionals say fastest on time, third on last 400 and second on last 600. Jason Holder has a strike rate of 13.8% at this track and Maysoonfly has won at 1200m.
2. Sir Castleton (No.3) — $3.65 / $1.40
Bet Tracked
Prob 21.9% | Place: 62.5% | Value: 0.80x ▼3% since tip
Why A real chance — but at $1.40 the place the numbers don't give me enough edge to insure with. Watching, not betting.
3. Super Choice (No.1) — $4.60 / $1.45
Bet Tracked
Prob 20.5% | Place: 46.1% | Value: 0.94x ▲3% since tip
Why Four placings on the Gawler and Murray Bridge circuit, with a time rank of second. Sits handy from barrier 2 and the ex-Gawler form is stronger than the price.

Roughie: Kiss And Kaboom (No.7) — $10.50 / $2.45
Bet Tracked
Prob 8.7% | Place: 33.5% | Value: 0.92x ▲5% since tip
Why Fastest on both last 600 and last 400 in the sectionals. Drawn barrier 1 and needs the leader to come back, so if Sir Castleton is run down she's the one who can swoop.

Race 4 – Gawler Self Storage Plate (C1)

Race type: Class 1, 2112m
Map & tempo: Slow pace with Caer Ibormeith and Triple Oh the likeliest to find the front. Caer Ibormeith is drawn wide at barrier 10 and has to work to cross. Green Summer sits back from barrier 6, and the shape helps him. Triora is one who needs cover from barrier 8.
Punty read: Green Summer is the bet, $10.50 win. He's the best sectional horse on the card (second on last 600, third on last 400, fastest on time) and he's a backmarker in a race where the expected shape helps him. Jake Toeroek has been hot on him over his last 100 rides. Magic Voyager is the danger from barrier 1, and his sectionals are solid, but he's on the speed in a slow race. Miami Miller has the strongest sectional kick of the back markers.

Top 3 + Roughie ($10.50 pool)

1. Green Summer (No.1) — $1.83 / $1.05
Bet $10.50 Win, return $19.22
Prob 42.2% | Place: 70.0% | Value: 0.77x ▼3% since tip
Why The shape suits a horse sitting back and his form is good: third at Gawler 1700m, third at Gawler 1516m and sixth at Morphettville Parks 1400m. Jake Toeroek has been hot on him.
2. Magic Voyager (No.5) — $4.60 / $1.45
Bet Tracked
Prob 24.4% | Place: 61.5% | Value: 1.12x Steady since tip
Why A real chance — but at $1.45 the place the numbers don't give me enough edge to insure with. Watching, not betting.
3. Miami Miller (No.6) — $7.00 / $1.70
Bet Tracked
Prob 10.3% | Place: 46.1% | Value: 0.72x ▲8% since tip
Why Sectionals say fastest on last 600 and last 400 and he's come from the back to finish fourth at Balaklava 1600m. Gawler 1719m is a win on the form sheet, and he's 4kg up from last start.

Roughie: Tan Tat Gold (No.3) — $10.00 / $2.20
Bet Tracked
Prob 8.1% | Place: 37.9% | Value: 0.81x ▲6% since tip
Why Won at Gawler from barrier 3 last year and sits back in the same spot as the favourite. Plenty of bad luck in his last three starts but the class is there.

Race 5 – Magain Fielke Real Estate Gawler Hcp (56)

Race type: Handicap, 1100m
Map & tempo: Genuine pace with Madam Jeanette the only leader from barrier 9. Atomic Time and Whoops A Daisy both want to be handy in the early phase, so the leader will be pressured early. Whoops A Daisy from barrier 1 is handy and the shape is against him, but the sprint is the key here. Kindra Park is on the speed and is also hurt by the expected pace.
Punty read: Whoops A Daisy is the bet, $10.50 win. The map says the shape is against him, but his Gawler form and sectional data (fastest on last 400 and time) are strong enough for a sprint at this track. He's run 2-3-0 from 25 starts and his distance record is 2-2-0 from eight. Madam Jeanette leads and is my second pick, but she's a lone leader with no finishing sprint. Prancethrulife is the first-up horse, back after 137 days, and he's in the hunt on his 1st-up record of 2:1-0-0.

Top 3 + Roughie ($10.50 pool)

1. Whoops A Daisy (No.5) — $2.72 / $1.25
Bet $10.50 Win, return $28.56
Prob 34.2% | Place: 62.8% | Value: 0.93x ▼4% since tip
Why Ran second at Gawler 1100m beaten 0.7L and has fast sectionals on last 400 and time. Kristi Evans trains him and the two Murray Bridge runs ended with interference.
2. Madam Jeanette (No.4) — $3.75 / $1.52
Bet Tracked
Prob 23.6% | Place: 50.4% | Value: 0.89x Steady since tip
Why A real chance — but at $1.52 the place the numbers don't give me enough edge to insure with. Watching, not betting.
3. Prancethrulife (No.2) — $5.90 / $1.80
Bet Tracked
Prob 13.5% | Place: 46.1% | Value: 0.80x ▲9% since tip
Why First-up after 137 days off with a 1st-up record of 2:1-0-0. Sits midfield from barrier 6 and his Gawler 1200m second was only 0.7L.

Roughie: Cosmic Interlude (No.3) — $11.00 / $2.65
Bet Tracked
Prob 7.2% | Place: 28.0% | Value: 0.79x ▲10% since tip
Why Visors and winkers both come off today for the first time. From barrier 4 with a backmarker run, she needs the leader to be run down and then a sprint from the back.

Race 6 – Sportsbet Racing Form Hcp (60)

Race type: Handicap, 1706m
Map & tempo: Moderate pace with plenty of horses that can get to the front, including Mr Ribtickler, Yarrawizardharry, Empirestateofmind, The Punk Rocker, Win To Retire and Hamner Springs. Nobody has a clear lead and the field is open, so the race comes down to who can run the best sectional last 600. Win To Retire from barrier 11 and Hamner Springs from barrier 9 are drawn wide and have to work to cross.
Punty read: Yarrawizardharry is the bet, $9.00 each way. His winkers come off for the first time and his good form from Good tracks (1-0-1 from six starts) suits. He's on the speed from barrier 1, and the shape is against him, but his time rank is second and he has hot form with both Todd Pannell and D Shepherd. Mr Ribtickler is the one who ran first at Gawler 1500m last time out, and a win in his last start is hard to ignore. Zarkana has the best sectional kick of any runner on the card at 1706m.

Top 3 + Roughie ($9.00 pool)

1. Yarrawizardharry (No.2) — $5.40 / $1.85
Bet $9.00 Each Way ($4.50W + $4.50P), collects $32.63 if it wins ($24.30 win + $8.33 place), $8.33 if it only places
Prob 19.1% | Place: 46.1% | Value: 1.03x ▼4% since tip
Why Winkers off for the first time and his time rank is second. Todd Pannell and D Shepherd make a hot combination. Good form and a moderate pace give him the chance to sit on the speed and finish.
2. Mr Ribtickler (No.1) — $7.60 / $2.40
Bet Tracked
Prob 15.4% | Place: 35.7% | Value: 1.17x Steady since tip
Why The top pick's each-way already covers the place angle here — doubling up is paying twice for the same insurance. Tracked instead.
3. Zarkana (No.9) — $4.90 / $1.80
Bet Tracked
Prob 13.7% | Place: 46.1% | Value: 0.67x Steady since tip
Why Sectionals say fastest on last 600 and last 400 and he's been running on from the back. Connor Murtagh rides and he has a 1-1-1 record from three starts at 1600m+.

Roughie: Veloce Girl (No.8) — $9.60 / $2.80
Bet Tracked
Prob 8.2% | Place: 32.7% | Value: 0.79x Steady since tip
Why Sits back from barrier 12 and the sectionals say she closes hard. Needs the speed horses to fight and fall in a heap in a moderate pace race, which is what she's built for.

Race 7 – Holdfast Insurance Brokers (Bm56)

Race type: Benchmark 56, 1506m
Map & tempo: Genuine pace with Immortal Spirit the only leader from barrier 7. Showrunner and Hell's On Fire are on the speed from barrier 3 and barrier 1, and they're the ones who get hurt by the expected pace. Torrita sits midfield from barrier 15 and the shape helps him, but he needs cover from that wide draw. The Ice Cutter from barrier 11 is the closer who gets the most from this shape.
Punty read: Torrita is the bet, $13.00 win. His record is 1-3-2 from 13 starts with a track record of 1-2-1 from five and a distance record of 1-2-0 from three. He's 2kg up from last start and the weight form says he's best at similar weights. Hell's On Fire is the danger from barrier 1 on the speed and has strong place form with a 52.0% place chance. Showrunner has the tongue tie on for the first time, but he's 12th in his last start at Morphettville 1600m. The Ice Cutter is the roughie and a closer in a shape that suits closers.

Top 3 + Roughie ($13.00 pool)

1. Torrita (No.8) — $3.75 / $1.65
Bet $13.00 Win, return $48.75
Prob 18.4% | Place: 53.3% | Value: 0.69x ▼3% since tip
Why The shape helps and his form is strong: third at Gawler 1200m last start beaten 1L. Ms Alysha Warren has the ride and the track record suits.
2. Hell's On Fire (No.7) — $7.20 / $2.40
Bet Tracked
Prob 17.8% | Place: 53.3% | Value: 1.28x Steady since tip
Why A real chance — but at $2.40 the place the numbers don't give me enough edge to insure with. Watching, not betting.
3. Showrunner (No.1) — $4.80 / $1.75
Bet Tracked
Prob 14.5% | Place: 46.1% | Value: 0.70x ▼5% since tip
Why Tongue tie on for the first time and a Morphettville Parks 1250m win from his last few starts. He's on the speed from barrier 3 and needs the pace to stay honest.

Roughie: The Ice Cutter (No.10) — $21.00 / $4.20
Bet Tracked
Prob 4.1% | Place: 22.3% | Value: 0.86x Steady since tip
Why Sectionals say second on last 600 and last 400, and the shape helps closers. From barrier 11 he needs the front pair to tire and the sprint to come to him.

SEQUENCE LANES

QUADDIE (R4-R7)

Smart: 1,5 / 5,4,2 / 2,9,1,8 / 8,7,1 (72 combos x $0.3472 = $25.00) -- 34.7% flexi
Punty's take: Green Summer and Magic Voyager anchor R4, and Whoops A Daisy and Madam Jeanette hold R5 tight. R6 and R7 are the open legs with four runners each, which is where the ticket gets its chance. Minimum 30% flexi on this one and 39.1% clears it. Short-priced winners rarely pay, so the payout depends on R6 or R7 coming in with a bigger winner.

NUGGETS FROM THE TRACK

1 - Artful Maximus is changing his look
Blinkers come off for the first time and winkers go back on (again) in Race 2. He's a $3.40 chance on the speed in a slow race, so watch the first two.

2 - Two Murray Bridge excuses that matter
Whoops A Daisy finished 5th and 4th at Murray Bridge GH 1100m, both listed as interference. He's the Race 5 bet and the excuses say he's better than his last start.

3 - The bridesmaid of Gawler
Nunya has three seconds from four starts and not one win yet. Either he's a horse ready to break through or he's the Gawler equivalent of a bridesmaid who keeps catching the bouquet.

FINAL WORD FROM THE SICKO SANCTUARY

If Nunya wins at $1.60 you'll all act like you knew, and if he doesn't you'll blame the bloke writing this. Either way, get your ticket on early and let the maps do the talking.
