Punty's Early Mail
For all of Punty's tips for Albany, head to https://punty.ai/tips/albany-2026-11-01
Rightio Loose Units, Albany is a Good 4 with fine weather, seven races from 1000m to 1500m, 63 runners and not a single scratching, so there's no excuse for anyone to get caught with a dud ticket. The speed is the story today, and the bloke who reads the map before he reads the form gets the cheapest winners on the card.
MEET SNAPSHOT
Track: Albany, 1000m to 1500m card
Rail: +2m Entire
Official going: Good 4 (Rainfall: Nil last 24hrs, 23mm last 7 days)
Weather: Fine. 0.4mm rain since 9am, gusts 13km/h. Rain risk 55%+ at 02:00, 05:00, 11:00 and 14:00.
Early lane guess: Unknown pre-race, watch the first two.
Tempo profile: Six of seven races are rated Moderate Pace on the speed map, with Race 4 the only Moderate Pace race and Race 7 the one Hot Pace race. Race 7 has three horses wanting the lead, so that's where the fireworks are.
Jockeys to follow:
Patrick Carbery: Seven rides on the day, including Brave Wasp in Race 4 and Manavendra in Race 6, so he's the one in the most races.
Ms Tash Faithfull: Six rides, including Beyond A Doubt in Race 2 and Desert Ora in Race 6, with a 40% combo strike rate alongside Michelle Hagley at this track.
Austin Galati: Five rides, with Capricious Ruler in Race 7 and Looks in Race 5 the two to tag.
Stables to respect:
Roy Rogers (10 runners): Ten runners is the biggest stable on the card, with Caladan in Race 3 and Heaps True Aye in Race 4 the ones I'd be chasing.
S J Wolfe (8 runners): Sign Of The Times in Race 1 and Hey True Blue in Race 5 both come from this yard, and they're the two I'm most interested in.
Samantha Faithfull (7 runners): Nailed'em in Race 4 is the standout ride from this stable, and Blinding Luck in Race 1 is the other one worth a look.
Punty's take: Mate, the speed on this card is all over the shop, but it isn't everywhere, and that's where the money is. Race 1 is a genuine pace on paper with Blinding Luck the only leader, so the front-runners can't just sit on the bit and roll. Sign Of The Times comes from the back, which is a nervous place to be in a maiden with a 2.00 favourite tag, but his trial numbers are the fastest sectionals in the field and he won at Albany over 600m last start. Race 2 is the one where I reckon the market has it right. Beyond A Doubt is the shortest price on the day, but the bloke's been running on at the finish and sits midfield in a race where the shape is against him. Race 4 is the only Moderate Pace race and Nailed'em has to lead from barrier 8, so that's a fight for the front with Heaps True Aye, and it's the one race where the leader might have to earn it. Race 7 is the chaos race with three leaders in a Hot Pace, and any horse that gets dragged into a fast tempo from the wrong spot is going to be cooked by the bell.
What it means for you: Be aggressive in Race 2 and Race 6, where the top picks have the best shape and the strongest numbers behind them. Race 4 needs respect because the pace is contested, so don't go too hard on the leaders unless you like the price. Race 7 is where you protect your bank: the shape is against our top pick, so keep the stakes sensible and take a few cheap looks at the trail runners. Race 1 is where the value sits, with Sign Of The Times at a fair price for a horse who hasn't got a lot of starts yet but has the sectional speed. The quaddie is built on Nailed'em, Hey True Blue, Desert Ora and Smart Energy, so the card is pretty tight at the front and loose in the middle.
PUNTY'S BIG 3 + MULTI
These are the three bets the day leans on.
1 - Beyond A Doubt (Race 2, No.4) — $1.45
Why Midfield in a race where the shape hurts him, but he's the most likely winner on the card and Ms Tash Faithfull and Michelle Hagley have a 40% combo strike rate together at Albany.
2 - Desert Ora (Race 6, No.9) — $2.00
Why The shape suits him from midfield, and he drops 5kg from his last start, so the weight is in his favour too.
3 - Nailed'em (Race 4, No.2) — $2.65
Why He's the one that wants the lead in a Moderate Pace race, and Natasha Faithfull's rides have a hot strike rate at Albany lately.
Multi (all three to win): $10 × 7.68 = $76.80
Race 1 – Country Comfort Mdn
Race type: MAIDEN, 1000m
Map & tempo: Genuine pace on paper, with Blinding Luck the only leader from barrier 6 and nobody really pushing him for the front. Menomonee Brave and Luz Del Sol will be handy and get the soft sit, while God'll Getya has to come off the speed from barrier 8 and work across. Sign Of The Times is the one that gets caught wide and needs luck from the back, and the shape is against him. The two on the speed will hand the race to whoever's got the most turn of foot.
Punty read: Sign Of The Times is the bet here, and the reason is the sectional speed. He's the fastest on the card for L600, L400 and time, and he won at Albany over 600m last start. He's backing into a lead that's uncontested, so he won't get the easy time in front but he doesn't need it either. God'll Getya sits on the speed and is the danger, Blinding Luck is the one who'll try to dictate, and Luz Del Sol's price has been cut from $9.00 to $7.00 with the money coming in.
Top 3 + Roughie ($15.00 pool)
1. Sign Of The Times (No.7) — $2.00 / $1.10
Bet $15.00 Win, return $30.00
Prob 34.3% | Place: 70.0% | Value: 0.69x Steady since tip
Why The fastest sectionals on the card and a Albany 600m win last start. He's from the back, and the shape is against him, but a horse with that kind of speed doesn't need the pace to be stacked.
2. God'll Getya (No.1) — $4.80 / $1.62
Bet Tracked
Prob 17.2% | Place: 46.1% | Value: 0.83x Steady since tip
Why A real chance — but at $1.62 the place the numbers don't give me enough edge to insure with. Watching, not betting.
3. Dundeemicky (No.3) — $4.60 / $1.60
Bet Tracked
Prob 16.1% | Place: 46.1% | Value: 0.74x Steady since tip
Why Blinkers go on first time and he's been off for 209 days, so he's a bit of a mystery. The jockey and trainer are both decent at this track, but I'd want to see him settle before I'd trust him.
Roughie: American Que Tee (No.5) — $13.00 / $2.80
Bet Tracked
Prob 5.6% | Place: 24.4% | Value: 0.73x Steady since tip
Why Bar plates come off first time and he was held up last start at Albany over 1100m, so he's got a case to bounce back. If the front two go hard, he's the one who can run on at a big price.
Race 2 – Wellington & Reeves Mdn
Race type: MAIDEN, 1230m
Map & tempo: Genuine pace with On The Fence the only leader from barrier 9, so he has to go wide to get to the front. No Comebacks and Token King will be handy from the inside, and Beyond A Doubt sits midfield from barrier 3 where the shape hurts him. The back of the field has a bit of traffic to get through, with Tasman Queen from barrier 11 the one who needs luck.
Punty read: Beyond A Doubt is the staked horse and the reason is simple: he's the most likely winner in this field and the market knows it. He's been running on in his last two starts, and Ms Tash Faithfull and Michelle Hagley are a good combo at Albany. The shape is against him from midfield, but he's stronger than the rest. Ravin' Ava and Zesty Zoom are the ones to watch, and No Comebacks is the one who's been unlucky.
Top 3 + Roughie ($13.00 pool)
1. Beyond A Doubt (No.4) — $1.45 / $1.04
Bet $13.00 Win, return $18.85
Prob 52.8% | Place: 70.0% | Value: 0.77x Steady since tip
Why First-up he's 3 from 3 runs with a placing in each of the last two starts, and the 40% combo with Ms Tash Faithfull and Michelle Hagley is strong. The shape is against him, but the market is right about him.
2. Ravin' Ava (No.8) — $6.00 / $1.82
Bet Tracked
Prob 14.1% | Place: 54.1% | Value: 0.85x Steady since tip
Why A real chance — but at $1.82 the place the numbers don't give me enough edge to insure with. Watching, not betting.
3. Zesty Zoom (No.9) — $7.00 / $2.00
Bet Tracked
Prob 8.2% | Place: 46.1% | Value: 0.57x Steady since tip
Why Lugging bit goes on first time and he's been a sprinter at Albany, so he needs the shape to come right. He's a backmarker with an L600 rank of 2 and an L400 fastest, so he can finish fast if the race sets up.
Roughie: No Comebacks (No.1) — $9.00 / $2.40
Bet Tracked
Prob 7.0% | Place: 34.1% | Value: 0.63x Steady since tip
Why He's been unlucky in his last two starts, with interference at Belmont Park and being held up at Albany. He's on the speed from barrier 7, which is good, and if Beyond A Doubt gets rolled, he could be the one.
Race 3 – Solomons Floorings (Bm58+)
Race type: HANDICAP, 1100m
Map & tempo: Genuine pace with Niccy's Affair the only leader from barrier 4, so he'll be able to settle without much pressure. Fantaxtic and Caladan will be handy from the inside, and Diablo Lad sits on the speed from barrier 5. Shooting Spirit and My Lovely Pet are wide, so they need cover or luck. Caladan sits handy from barrier 1 and the shape helps him.
Punty read: Caladan is the bet and the reason is the shape. He sits handy from barrier 1, the speed map has him in front of the crowd, and his sectionals are the fastest in the field for time with an L400 rank of 2. He ran 10th last start at Murray Bridge with a medical or physical issue, so there's an excuse there. Fantaxtic and Diablo Lad are the danger, and Niccy's Affair will be the one trying to make all.
Top 3 + Roughie ($12.00 pool)
1. Caladan (No.2) — $2.50 / place tote
Bet $12.00 Win, return $30.00
Prob 29.3% | Place: 38.8% | Value: 0.73x Steady since tip
Why He's the horse with the best combination of speed and shape in this race, and his time is the fastest on the card for this grade. The last start was a medical or physical issue, so he's a bounce-back chance.
2. Diablo Lad (No.6) — $4.50 / $2.15
Bet Tracked
Prob 18.9% | Place: 32.7% | Value: 0.85x Steady since tip
Why Only two places paid in a field this size, and skinny place divvies make savers a mug's game — this is a win-only race. Tracked, not staked.
3. Niccy's Affair (No.3) — $5.50 / place tote
Bet Tracked
Prob 16.6% | Place: 32.7% | Value: 0.91x Steady since tip
Why He's the only leader in a race with a lot of forward runners, and he won at Albany over 600m last start. Cross-over nose band goes on first time, so watch the market on him.
Roughie: My Lovely Pet (No.7) — $10.00 / $3.70
Bet Tracked
Prob 8.5% | Place: 17.8% | Value: 0.85x Steady since tip
Why He's wide from barrier 7 and has a fast L600 and L400, so if the front pair go too fast he can run down a few horses late. He needs a clear run and a bit of luck, but the sectionals are there.
Race 4 – Graham Manley Auto Repairs Hcp (C1)
Race type: HANDICAP, 1000m
Map & tempo: Moderate pace with two to lead, Nailed'em from barrier 8 and Heaps True Aye from barrier 6. The two of them will be fighting for the front, so the one who wins that fight gets the run. Longtimebeliever and Great Deal will be handy from the inside, and Brave Wasp sits midfield from barrier 4 with the sectionals to finish. The shape is against Nailed'em, so he needs to be the one who works out the fight.
Punty read: Nailed'em is the staked horse and the reason is the leader's chance. He's a Natasha Faithfull ride with a hot strike rate on the rails, and he won at Albany last start with his 1st-up record. The map says Heaps True Aye is the one to fight him for the lead, and Brave Wasp is the danger from the middle. Brazen Bid has been running on, so he's a threat to the top two.
Top 3 + Roughie ($10.50 pool)
1. Nailed'em (No.2) — $2.70 / $1.22
Bet $10.50 Win, return $28.35
Prob 35.0% | Place: 70.0% | Value: 0.94x Steady since tip
Why He's the horse that wants the lead in a race where it's contested, and his 2nd-up record is 2 from 2 with one win. Natasha Faithfull is hot on the speed lately, and he's the one most likely to be in front at the bell.
2. Brave Wasp (No.1) — $2.70 / $1.22
Bet Tracked
Prob 25.5% | Place: 70.0% | Value: 0.69x Steady since tip
Why A real chance — but at $1.22 the place the numbers don't give me enough edge to insure with. Watching, not betting.
3. Brazen Bid (No.3) — $4.80 / $1.65
Bet Tracked
Prob 19.3% | Place: 52.2% | Value: 0.93x Steady since tip
Why He's on the speed, has a track record of placing, and has been off for 219 days but is 1 from 5 at first-up. The jockey has a 11.6% combo strike rate with Roy Rogers, so he's worth respect.
Roughie: Longtimebeliever (No.4) — $18.00 / $3.50
Bet Tracked
Prob 3.9% | Place: 22.3% | Value: 0.70x Steady since tip
Why He's been handy in a race that's set up for the forward runners, and the shape helps him. If the front two cancel each other out, he's the horse who can sneak through on the rail.
Race 5 – Statewide Horse Transport (Bm58+)
Race type: HANDICAP, 1500m
Map & tempo: Genuine pace with Looks the only leader from barrier 5. Warralea Lass and Hot Chatter will be on the speed, and the back of the field has a lot of wide runners who need cover, including Apparatus and Bondi Express. Nobody is clearly suited by the expected pace, so the one who settles best is the one who wins.
Punty read: Hey True Blue is the Each Way bet, and the reason is that he's the one who's been running well over 1500m with a time that's the fastest in the field. He's midfield from barrier 1 and the shape is against him, but a horse with his sectionals can run down the leader. Looks is the danger in front, and Apparatus from the back is the one who could get a dream run.
Top 3 + Roughie ($13.00 pool)
1. Hey True Blue (No.3) — $3.20 / $1.40
Bet $13.00 Each Way ($6.50W + $6.50P), collects $29.90 if it wins ($20.80 win + $9.10 place), $9.10 if it only places
Prob 30.4% | Place: 63.0% | Value: 0.97x Steady since tip
Why His sectional time is the fastest in the field, and he's been placed in his second-up record. He's carrying 58 to 61kg in his last starts, which is a warning, but the form is there.
2. Looks (No.4) — $3.00 / $1.40
Bet Tracked
Prob 17.2% | Place: 49.2% | Value: 0.52x Steady since tip
Why The top pick's each-way already covers the place angle here — doubling up is paying twice for the same insurance. Tracked instead.
3. Apparatus (No.6) — $7.00 / $2.30
Bet Tracked
Prob 14.5% | Place: 35.8% | Value: 1.01x Steady since tip
Why He's been held up in his last start and has sectionals that rank 2 for L600 and 3 for L400. He's from the back, but the shape is against him, so he needs the front to be hot, which it might not be.
Roughie: Cherokee Miss (No.8) — $10.00 / $2.75
Bet Tracked
Prob 8.8% | Place: 33.5% | Value: 0.88x Steady since tip
Why She's won at Albany before and was 1 win from 4 runs in the Track record, so she's a lively chance if the race sets up for the closers.
Race 6 – Albany Scaffold Hire (Bm70+)
Race type: HANDICAP, 1000m
Map & tempo: Genuine pace with What A Prince the only leader from barrier 4. Gift Of The Heart and Desert Ora are the ones who suit the expected pace, with Gift Of The Heart from barrier 1 handy and Desert Ora midfield from barrier 6. Meat Pie Artie and Manavendra are wide from barrier 9 and 8, so they need to work across. The shape helps Desert Ora.
Punty read: Desert Ora is the bet and the reason is the shape. He's midfield from barrier 6, the expected pace helps him, and he drops 5kg from his last start, which is good for a horse who's better at heavier weights. He's a 2 from 5 on good and has sectionals that rank fastest for L600 and L400. Meat Pie Artie and Flick The Switch are the ones to watch, but I'm not going to chase them at these prices.
Top 3 + Roughie ($10.50 pool)
1. Desert Ora (No.9) — $2.00 / $1.13
Bet $10.50 Win, return $21.00
Prob 36.1% | Place: 70.0% | Value: 0.72x Steady since tip
Why He's the most likely winner in this race and the shape is right for him. The jockey is a hot strike rate at Albany with a 40% combo alongside Michelle Hagley, so he's a horse to trust.
2. Meat Pie Artie (No.6) — $4.40 / $1.57
Bet Tracked
Prob 18.2% | Place: 46.1% | Value: 0.80x Steady since tip
Why A real chance — but at $1.57 the place the numbers don't give me enough edge to insure with. Watching, not betting.
3. Flick The Switch (No.7) — $5.00 / $1.70
Bet Tracked
Prob 16.0% | Place: 46.1% | Value: 0.80x Steady since tip
Why Ear muffs go on first time, and she's got a track record at Albany with 4 wins from 17 starts. She's on the speed and has an L600 rank of 3, so she's a player if the front runners get caught.
Roughie: Oracle Son (No.8) — $11.00 / $2.75
Bet Tracked
Prob 7.4% | Place: 29.3% | Value: 0.81x Steady since tip
Why He's been raced wide in his last two starts, so the excuse is there. If the race is run to suit the midfield runners and he finds a clear run, he's got the class to hit the board.
Race 7 – TABtouch Same Race Multi Hcp (C2)
Race type: HANDICAP, 1230m
Map & tempo: Hot pace with three leaders: Maxwhooshtapin from barrier 1, Whiplash from barrier 9 and Capricious Ruler from barrier 6. That's a fight for the front, and the one who gets the trail will be the one who wins. Smart Energy is handy from barrier 4 and the shape is against him, but his sectionals are the fastest in the field.
Punty read: Smart Energy is the bet and the reason is the sectionals. He's the fastest in the field for L600, L400 and time, and he's a 2 from 6 on good with the 1st-up record at 0 from 3. He's got a hard run in a fast race, but he's the most likely winner. Capricious Ruler is the danger from the front and Jellybean Jones is the one who could be the best of the trail runners.
Top 3 + Roughie ($13.00 pool)
1. Smart Energy (No.1) — $4.20 / $1.75
Bet $13.00 Win, return $54.60
Prob 23.2% | Place: 46.1% | Value: 0.97x Steady since tip
Why He's got the fastest sectionals in the field and a fresh tongue control bit on for the first time. He was interfered with last start at Ascot, so the bounce-back is there.
2. Capricious Ruler (No.5) — $4.60 / $1.90
Bet Tracked
Prob 18.0% | Place: 46.1% | Value: 0.83x Steady since tip
Why A real chance — but at $1.90 the place the numbers don't give me enough edge to insure with. Watching, not betting.
3. Jellybean Jones (No.3) — $5.50 / $2.15
Bet Tracked
Prob 13.1% | Place: 38.9% | Value: 0.72x Steady since tip
Why He's on the speed and the shape helps him, with a track record of 2 wins from 14 starts. He was raced wide last start at Belmont Park, so the excuse is there.
Roughie: Kidding Me (No.11) — $12.00 / $3.60
Bet Tracked
Prob 8.3% | Place: 32.7% | Value: 0.99x Steady since tip
Why Blinkers come off first time and cross-over nose band goes on, so there's a change of approach. He's from the back and if the three leaders go flat out, he can come from a long way back.
SEQUENCE LANES
QUADDIE (R4–R7)
Smart: 2,1,3 / 3,4,6 / 9,7,6 / 5,1,3,11 (108 combos x $0.3241 = $35.00) -- 32.4% flexi
Punty's take: Desert Ora in Race 6 is the tight leg with only two horses, while Race 4 and Race 5 are wide enough to keep the ticket alive. The quaddie is low outlay because the banker leg is tight, and the 37% flexi floor is the number to hold onto if Race 7 goes chaos.
NUGGETS FROM THE TRACK
1 - Blinkers come off for the first time for Brave Wasp
Brave Wasp has blinkers off again in Race 4 and he's been running on the sectionals, so I'd be watching how he handles the change.
2 - Desert Ora drops 5kg and the shape suits
The weight drops 5kg from last start and he's a 2 from 5 on good, so the one at the weights is the one to back here.
3 - Tasman Queen is yet to win from seven starts
She's been wide, bumped and hampered in her last few runs, and she's still winless from 7 starts. Perhaps the tongue control bit off first time is the answer.
FINAL WORD FROM THE SICKO SANCTUARY
Seven races, one card, and a fair few horses that will make you wish you'd backed them on the nose. Keep your stakes sensible, read the maps, and remember the chaos race is the one that pays for the lot. Get out there and have a bloody good day.
