Punty's Early Mail
For all of Punty's tips for Muswellbrook, head to https://punty.ai/tips/muswellbrook-2026-11-01
Rightio Loose Units, it's a Soft 5 at Muswellbrook with seven races, 101 runners and six scratchings, so this is a day for sharp eyes and short tempers. The speed is thin in the first race and the third, moderate everywhere else, and the big priced horses are going to make a few of us look like geniuses while the rest of us tip our hats and go back to the bar.
MEET SNAPSHOT
Track: Muswellbrook, 1000m to 1750m card
Rail: 4m from 1000m - 300m where cutaway applies
Official going: Soft 5 (Rainfall: Nil last 24hrs, 3mm last 7 days)
Weather: Fine, gusts 20.4km/h, 55%+ chance of rain at 17:00 and 20:00
Early lane guess: unknown pre-race, watch the first two
Tempo profile: Races 1 and 3 are slow on paper, with nobody mapping to lead in the first and the lone front-runner in the third. Races 2, 4, 5, 6 and 7 are all moderate, and the fights for the front in Races 4 and 5 are where the early running gets interesting.
Jockeys to follow:
Braith Nock: rides seven today, with Kenisis in Race 1 the one I'm watching closest and Tacitly in Race 3 right behind it
Aaron Bullock: six rides, including Supido Star in Race 4 and Whoopi Do in Race 3, so he's not short of chances
Ms Mikayla Weir: six rides, with Fearn Trick in Race 6 and Share Our Secret in Race 3 the ones that can change a race's shape
Stables to respect:
Annabel & Rob Archibald (6): Usain Boss and Incremental in Race 2 give them two shots in the one race, and Tacitly in Race 3 is the one that needs a look
P Messara & L Gavranich (4): Costa Del Sol and Imelda both run in Race 7, and that stable gets a quaddie leg each with its own mind
Brett & Georgie Cavanough (5): Modernist and Big Brad in Race 2 and Currumbin Alley in Race 7 mean they've got a few cards in the hand
Punty's take: Right, here's where the speed is, and it's not where the crowd thinks. Race 1 is a slow-speed affair with nobody mapping to lead or sit handy, so whoever gets a clean run from the back on that one has to earn it. Race 2 is moderate with Wan Lost, Reylegado and Incremental all wanting the front, and that puts Usain Boss in the awkward spot of sitting midfield from barrier 9 and trying to get into the race late. Race 3 is the slow one where Share Our Secret is the lone forward runner, so the back-markers have to be hard on the bit to get involved. Race 4 has Mr Cornstar and Eezitosort contesting the lead from barriers 7 and 1, which is a proper scrap and a good shape for the handy sorts. Race 5 is the one I'd screenshot: Blue Dane gets the front cheap from barrier 6 while Shoutaboutit has to work over from barrier 13, which hands The Magic Man a lovely sit behind them. Race 6 has Fearn Trick as the forward runner in a moderate pace, Chamber Of Secrets from barrier 3 is the one to be on, and Race 7 is the Costa Del Sol and Imelda show with the moderate pace leaving the sprint-like shape open for the pair to be drawn into the mix.
What it means for you: Be aggressive in Race 5 and Race 6 where the speed is set up for the horses I'm backing, because the shape doesn't run against the stake for The Magic Man and Chamber Of Secrets. Protect your bankroll in Race 1 and Race 3, where the slow pace turns both races into a coin toss between the handy and the back-markers. Race 2 and Race 4 are the chaos races, with Usain Boss and Magic Storm having to fight the shape to get a result, so keep the stakes sensible there. The banker-ish race is Race 7, where Costa Del Sol is the favourite and the one that has to be respected. The value sits with the bigger roughies, but I'm only keeping stakes on the locked picks, so anything else is entertainment, not a bet. Keep the bets consistent with what's locked below and don't go chasing.
PUNTY'S BIG 3 + MULTI
These are the three bets the day leans on.
1 - Costa Del Sol (Race 7, No.7) — $3.10
Why Favourite in a moderate-pace race with the shape against him, but he's won last start at Muswellbrook 1280m and his stable's numbers at this track are the best on the card.
2 - Kenisis (Race 1, No.9) — $3.10
Why Slow pace and a wide draw for a horse who's fresh and got a sectional fastest 400m last start at Tamworth, which shows he finishes off.
3 - Chamber Of Secrets (Race 6, No.8) — $2.70
Why Barrier 3 gives him a clean run from midfield in a race where the shape is neutral, and his last-start excuse was a bad trip, not a bad horse.
Multi (all three to win): $10 × 25.95 = $259.50
Race 1 – A Corp Computers Country Boosted Mdn Hcp
Race type: MAIDEN, 1500m
Map & tempo: Slow pace on paper and nobody wants the front, so the early running is going to be tidy and the race gets decided up the straight. The wide barriers are the problem for the back-half runners, with Bosca Bullet, Sorted, Kenisis and Irish Accolade all drawn out and needing cover. Kenisis is the one I'm watching, because he sits midfield from barrier 10 and has to work across to get a trip, which is a bit against the shape.
Punty read: Kenisis is the bet here, and it's the one I'm keenest on. He's been running on in the last few starts at Tamworth, has a sectional fastest 400m last start, and Braith Nock on him is the best of the combinations in this race. Prima Vecchio gets a bit of attention because he's got the ear muffs on first time and a tidy 5th last start at Muswellbrook, but I'm not putting money on him at this price. Moongleam from the back is the one with the most support in the market, and that's worth respecting, but the place price doesn't pay enough to back him. Dynamic Diva has visors on first time and is a danger if the pace collapses and the race turns into a sprint late.
Top 3 + Roughie ($13.00 pool)
1. Kenisis (No.9) — $3.10 / $1.45
Bet $13.00 Win, return $40.30
Prob 23.4% | Place: 60.0% | Value: 0.73x Steady since tip
Why Seven starts with a placing in most of them, sectional fastest 400m last start, and the best combo on the card with Braith Nock. Shape is against him from barrier 10, but he's shown he can finish.
2. Prima Vecchio (No.2) — $4.20 / $1.65
Bet Tracked
Prob 17.8% | Place: 54.0% | Value: 0.75x Steady since tip
Why A real chance — but at $1.65 the place the numbers don't give me enough edge to insure with. Watching, not betting.
3. Moongleam (No.6) — $7.50 / $2.40
Bet Tracked
Prob 16.5% | Place: 46.1% | Value: 1.24x Steady since tip
Why Market's been hammering him from $10.00 to $7.50, and he ran a 5th at Muswellbrook 1280m last start. He's a back-marker, so he needs the pace to fall apart up front to do anything.
Roughie: Rothfield (No.3) — $34.00 / $4.50
Bet Tracked
Prob 1.7% | Place: 8.7% | Value: 0.56x Steady since tip
Why Ran second at Mudgee 1400m last start and was third-fastest on sectional time, so if the shape stays slow and the front runners stop, he's the one who could run them down from the back.
Race 2 – Muswellbrook & District Workers Club Mdn Plate
Race type: MAIDEN, 1280m
Map & tempo: Moderate pace, and this one's a bunch fight at the front with Wan Lost, Reylegado and Incremental all likely to want the lead. The forward runners are drawn out, with Incremental from barrier 20 and Ready Made Heir from barrier 19 both having to work across, which helps Wan Lost from barrier 6 get the trail. Usain Boss is the awkward one sitting midfield from barrier 9, so he needs the speed to collapse up front.
Punty read: Usain Boss is the bet and I'm happy with that because he's got a bit of class in the form, placed in most of his starts, and blinkers go on first time which can sharpen a horse who's been running hard and finishing 2nd or 3rd. His trainer has the T-HOT record at this track, so that's a flag I'm happy to ride. Incremental from barrier 20 is the danger in the front, and if he gets the fight he can be one that's better than the price. Ready Made Heir with blinkers on first time from the wide draw is the one to watch once the pace settles. Wan Lost is the roughie with the path to win: he's been on the speed at this track before and if the leaders hit a wall, he's the one who can run on.
Top 3 + Roughie ($7.50 pool)
1. Usain Boss (No.3) — $4.00 / $1.75
Bet $7.50 Win, return $30.00
Prob 19.2% | Place: 46.1% | Value: 0.77x Steady since tip
Why Yet to win from 10 starts but has three seconds and a third, and blinkers go on first time today. Trainer is hot at this track, and he's one of the few who can rate off the pace in this field.
2. Incremental (No.1) — $5.50 / $2.15
Bet Tracked
Prob 11.9% | Place: 38.9% | Value: 0.65x Steady since tip
Why A real chance — but at $2.15 the place the numbers don't give me enough edge to insure with. Watching, not betting.
3. Ready Made Heir (No.11) — $7.50 / $2.65
Bet Tracked
Prob 10.8% | Place: 34.1% | Value: 0.81x Steady since tip
Why Blinkers on first time and a 2nd at Port Macquarie 1200m last start. The wide draw is a worry, but if the pace is steady he'll be in the finish.
Roughie: Wan Lost (No.4) — $9.00 / $3.00
Bet Tracked
Prob 7.6% | Place: 28.0% | Value: 0.68x Steady since tip
Why Jockey strike rate at this track is one of the better ones in the field and he's been on the speed before. Medical issue cost him last start at Newcastle, so if the front runners stop, he's the one to rally.
Race 3 – Power FM Plate (C1)
Race type: CLASS 1, 1750m
Map & tempo: Slow pace on paper, with Share Our Secret the only horse who wants the front from barrier 9. That means the race is set up for a bit of a fight from the back, and Purple Haze from barrier 10 is going to have to settle back and wait. The wide draws of Famahan, Ghayoor, Mission Strike and Feelen Corny all work against them.
Punty read: Purple Haze is the bet, and it's a each way on a horse that has form in the book. He ran first at Taree 1600m last start, and he's the one with the class edge in this grade. The shape is against him because he's a back-marker in a slow race, but he's been running on, and if Share Our Secret goes too slow he'll find himself with the room. Tacitly from barrier 3 is the one that can get a cheap sit and is the danger, and Grafology is backed in from $10.00 to $7.00, which tells me something's going on there. Kurithea is the roughie with a path to win through the place, because he's run well over this trip and is the one to find the gaps.
Top 3 + Roughie ($18.50 pool)
1. Purple Haze (No.2) — $5.50 / $1.95
Bet $6.00 Each Way ($3.00W + $3.00P), collects $22.35 if it wins ($16.50 win + $5.85 place), $5.85 if it only places
Prob 22.0% | Place: 54.2% | Value: 1.21x Steady since tip
Why First up at Taree last start, a class 1 winner before, and the jockey and trainer combo has been strong. The shape is against him from barrier 10, but he's won at this grade and I'm happy to take the each way on that.
2. Tacitly (No.3) — $2.00 / $1.22
Bet Tracked
Prob 17.0% | Place: 46.1% | Value: 0.34x Steady since tip
Why The top pick's each-way already covers the place angle here — doubling up is paying twice for the same insurance. Tracked instead.
3. Grafology (No.4) — $8.00 / $2.50
Bet Tracked
Prob 13.6% | Place: 46.1% | Value: 1.09x Steady since tip
Why Market's backed him from $10.00 to $7.00, and he ran first at Tamworth 1600m before a 4th at Orange last start. The back-marker role makes him a shape risk.
Roughie: Kurithea (No.6) — $9.00 / $2.80
Bet $12.50 Place, return $35.00
Prob 12.8% | Place: 40.4% | Value: 1.15x Steady since tip
Why Place bet is the play here, because the horse has been second and third in his career and the place price is better than the win. He's been held up and bumped in recent starts, so if the traffic opens late, he's the one to run through the middle.
Race 4 – Saunders Motor Group Hcp (C1)
Race type: CLASS 1, 1000m
Map & tempo: Moderate pace with two leaders, Mr Cornstar from barrier 7 and Eezitosort from barrier 1, and they're going to fight it out early. Mr Cornstar is advantaged by the shape, and Sir Herridah sits handy and gets the trail. Magic Storm from barrier 4 sits midfield, which is the shape against him, but a 1000m sprint on a soft track rewards the horse who can get the trip and find the line.
Punty read: Magic Storm is the staked pick and it's the each way I'm happiest with. He's coming off a win at Tamworth 1000m, the market's been backing him from $6.50 to $5.50, and a sprinter who's won over the trip is one to be on. The shape is against him from midfield, but the two leaders might cook each other and leave him the trail. Eezitosort is the danger from barrier 1 who'll get out and take them on. Song For Rosie has the tongue tie on first time and is an each way chance from midfield if the leaders stop. City Gold Speed is the roughie with the sectional speed, but he's in the 0-for-6 weight warning, so the odds have to be right.
Top 3 + Roughie ($15.00 pool)
1. Magic Storm (No.11) — $5.50 / $2.15
Bet $15.00 Each Way ($7.50W + $7.50P), collects $57.38 if it wins ($41.25 win + $16.13 place), $16.13 if it only places
Prob 19.0% | Place: 46.1% | Value: 1.04x Steady since tip
Why Won at Tamworth 1000m last start and the market's moving his way. Shape is against him from midfield, but the front-runners are both in the one race, so the sprint could come back to him.
2. Eezitosort (No.5) — $6.00 / $2.25
Bet Tracked
Prob 13.2% | Place: 46.1% | Value: 0.79x Steady since tip
Why The top pick's each-way already covers the place angle here — doubling up is paying twice for the same insurance. Tracked instead.
3. Song For Rosie (No.3) — $9.50 / $2.85
Bet Tracked
Prob 12.6% | Place: 46.1% | Value: 1.20x Steady since tip
Why On the speed from barrier 3 with the tongue tie on first time, and he was 5th at Beaumont 800m last start. He's the one who can sit handy and pounce late.
Roughie: City Gold Speed (No.12) — $17.00 / $4.00
Bet Tracked
Prob 4.7% | Place: 22.3% | Value: 0.79x Steady since tip
Why Sectional fastest 600m and fastest on time, so if the two leaders go hard and the field fold up, he's the one with the closing kick. Weight warning says he's struggled at these weights, so I'm not backing him.
Race 5 – Scone Rural Supplies CRT (Bm58)
Race type: CLASS 2, 1000m
Map & tempo: Moderate pace with two proper leaders, Blue Dane from barrier 6 and Shoutaboutit from barrier 13. Blue Dane gets the front cheap, and Shoutaboutit has to work over from the wide draw, so the race is set up for a horse to sit handy and wait. The Magic Man from barrier 3 is that horse, and the shape helps him.
Punty read: The Magic Man is the bet, and he's the one who gets the perfect trip. He sits handy, his trip is a pace advantage, and he's been hampered in his last start at Port Macquarie 1000m, which is a legit excuse for a horse with a good record. The market has him at $4.50, and I'm happy to have the win on him at that price. Blue Dane is the danger, leading from a good draw, and he'll fight anyone who wants to get past him. Shoutaboutit's wide draw is his problem, but he's got the speed to hang on if Blue Dane backs up. Movin' Denman is the roughie: he's strong at this track, has the blinkers back on, and if the leaders go too hard he can run home.
Top 3 + Roughie ($13.50 pool)
1. The Magic Man (No.2) — $4.60 / $1.90
Bet $13.50 Win, return $62.10
Prob 19.5% | Place: 46.1% | Value: 0.90x Steady since tip
Why Sits handy from barrier 3 in a race where the shape suits the forward runners. He was hampered at Port Macquarie last start, and he's been placed in several of his 1000m runs.
2. Blue Dane (No.8) — $4.60 / $1.90
Bet Tracked
Prob 18.2% | Place: 46.1% | Value: 0.84x Steady since tip
Why A real chance — but at $1.90 the place the numbers don't give me enough edge to insure with. Watching, not betting.
3. Shoutaboutit (No.6) — $5.50 / $2.15
Bet Tracked
Prob 16.7% | Place: 46.1% | Value: 0.92x Steady since tip
Why Leads, but from barrier 13 he has to work across, so he might not get the front he wants. Second at Beaumont 800m last start is a sign he's sharp.
Roughie: Movin' Denman (No.4) — $13.00 / $3.80
Bet Tracked
Prob 8.3% | Place: 32.7% | Value: 1.08x Steady since tip
Why The market's been backing him from $23.00 to $13.00 and he's a proper track horse, with a strong record at this track. Blinkers go on again and the tongue tie comes off, which might suit if he gets a run on the rails.
Race 6 – The Remington Muswellbrook Country Boosted (Bm58)
Race type: BENCHMARK 58, 1280m
Map & tempo: Moderate pace, and Fearn Trick is the forward runner who is helped most by the shape from barrier 11. Steely Girl from barrier 13 and Snitzenegger from barrier 4 are the other two up front, which means the early pace is set. Chamber Of Secrets from barrier 3 sits midfield and the shape is neutral for him, so he can settle into the race and pick his spot.
Punty read: Chamber Of Secrets is the bet, and he's the one who gets the cleanest run at the price. He's been on the bit with his form at this track, the trainer and jockey combo is solid, and his last start was a 5th at Port Macquarie where he was raced wide and bumped. The shape is neutral, so that's a plus. Fearn Trick is the danger from the front and has the best sprint numbers in the race, so if he gets the speed, he's going to be hard to run down. Laizabout has the back-marker role but has a jockey who has been hot, and the market is backing him from $4.60 to $3.70. Sigsaly is the roughie: he's in the market support and ran a 4th at Scone last start.
Top 3 + Roughie ($10.50 pool)
1. Chamber Of Secrets (No.8) — $2.70 / $1.40
Bet $10.50 Win, return $28.35
Prob 22.6% | Place: 61.5% | Value: 0.61x Steady since tip
Why Sits midfield from barrier 3 in a race where the shape is neutral. Last start 5th at Port Macquarie was a bad trip, raced wide and bumped, and he's the one who can run a clean race today.
2. Fearn Trick (No.3) — $6.00 / $2.10
Bet Tracked
Prob 20.0% | Place: 46.4% | Value: 1.20x Steady since tip
Why A real chance — but at $2.10 the place the numbers don't give me enough edge to insure with. Watching, not betting.
3. Laizabout (No.5) — $3.70 / $1.65
Bet Tracked
Prob 18.6% | Place: 46.1% | Value: 0.69x Steady since tip
Why Back-marker from barrier 5 who has been firming in the market. Luke Rolls is the jockey, and his strike rate at this track has been hot, so he's the one to keep an eye on.
Roughie: Sigsaly (No.11) — $14.00 / $3.70
Bet Tracked
Prob 6.8% | Place: 28.0% | Value: 0.95x Steady since tip
Why Market has been heavy on him from $23.00 to $14.00, and he ran a 4th at Scone last start. If the front runners tire, he's one that can run on from midfield.
Race 7 – Mangoola Coal (Bm66)
Race type: BENCHMARK 66, 1500m
Map & tempo: Moderate pace with Currumbin Alley from the wide barrier 13, Jason Darren from barrier 5 and Costa Del Sol from barrier 11 all in the mix for the early lead. Currumbin Alley and Jason Darren are the forward runners who suit the shape, while Costa Del Sol has to work from the wide draw and the shape is against him.
Punty read: Costa Del Sol is the bet and he's the one everyone's chasing, which is fine by me. He won at Muswellbrook 1280m last start, he's the favourite for good reason, and the trainer's numbers at this track are the best on the card. The shape is against him from barrier 11, so he'll need to settle handy and find a gap. Imelda is the stablemate and has come off a win at Muswellbrook 1500m last start, so she's the one who can run into the place. Vltava from midfield is the one who's been firming and has the jockey hot at this track. Currumbin Alley is the roughie: the market's firming on him and he's won two from five on soft.
Top 3 + Roughie ($10.50 pool)
1. Costa Del Sol (No.7) — $3.20 / $1.52
Bet $10.50 Win, return $33.60
Prob 26.1% | Place: 61.7% | Value: 0.84x Steady since tip
Why Won at Muswellbrook 1280m last start and the trainer's numbers at this track are the best on the card. Shape is against him from barrier 11, but he's the one with the stable and the form.
2. Imelda (No.8) — $4.00 / $1.65
Bet Tracked
Prob 21.1% | Place: 58.6% | Value: 0.84x Steady since tip
Why A real chance — but at $1.65 the place the numbers don't give me enough edge to insure with. Watching, not betting.
3. Vltava (No.4) — $7.00 / $2.45
Bet Tracked
Prob 13.6% | Place: 46.1% | Value: 0.95x Steady since tip
Why Won at Muswellbrook 1280m two starts back, and the market's firming from $8.50 to $7.00. Luke Rolls has been hot at this track, so he's the one to watch.
Roughie: Currumbin Alley (No.3) — $9.00 / $2.70
Bet Tracked
Prob 7.3% | Place: 29.3% | Value: 0.66x Steady since tip
Why Pace advantage and the market is firming on him, and he's won two from five on soft. If the leaders go steady, he can sit forward and pick up the place.
SEQUENCE LANES
QUADDIE (R4–R7)
Smart: 5,11,3 / 6,8,2,4 / 8,3,5 / 7,8,4,3 (144 combos x $0.3472 = $50.00) -- 34.7% flexi
Punty's take: All four legs are open races, so there's no banker to hang the ticket on, and this is a wide, expensive play with the 30% minimum flexi covering the risk. Race 6 is the tightest leg at three runners, with the other three legs open enough that a short-priced winner won't pay the ticket, so it needs a $5 to $10 winner in one of the legs to pay well. Honestly, it's an entertainment ticket with a bit of value in it, so don't chase it.
NUGGETS FROM THE TRACK
1 - Blinkers go on first time
Usain Boss and Ready Made Heir both have blinkers on first time today, and Usain Boss is the locked Race 2 pick, so the market move there is worth watching.
2 - Movin' Denman's home track record
Track 13:1-5-1 is what he's got at Muswellbrook, 13 starts with one win, five seconds and a third, and the market has backed him from $23.00 to $13.00 for Race 5.
3 - 101 runners and six scratchings
Seven races, 101 runners and six scratchings is a card that's a lot more fun than the weather forecast, which says fine but gives a 55% chance of rain at 17:00 and 20:00.
FINAL WORD FROM THE SICKO SANCTUARY
Back the form, not the feeling, and keep your bankroll on a short leash on a day like this. Soft 5 tracks are the place where the tips look stupid for three races and then bring you home with a fistful, so stay sharp and enjoy the ride.
