Rightio Ticket Munchers, Nowra is on a Good 4 and the sky is fine, but the radar has a 55%+ chance of rain at 17:00 and 20:00, so keep one eye on the weather. Seven races, 82 runners, nine scratchings, and a card that runs from a 1100m maiden to a 2200m Class 1. There's no speed-on-speed carnage on paper, just a few spots where the front gets fought over and a couple of races where the back of the field is the place to be.

MEET SNAPSHOT

Track: Nowra, 1100m to 2200m card
Rail: +1m for 1200m to 800m, +4m for 800m to 350m, true remainder
Official going: Good 4 (Nil rainfall last 24hrs, 15mm last 7 days)
Weather: Fine, gusts 25.9km/h, 55%+ chance of rain at 17:00 and 20:00
Early lane guess: unknown pre-race, watch the first two
Tempo profile: R1 Moderate, R2 Slow, R3 Moderate, R4 Genuine, R5 Genuine, R6 Moderate, R7 Moderate. Only the Genuine races have a true leader on the card, and R4 and R5 are where the speed is most obvious.
Jockeys to follow:
Brodie Loy: Four rides, and two of them are locked picks in the mail, Cool As Ted in Race 1 and Abstruse in Race 6.
Keagan Latham: Four rides, including Powerful Prayer in Race 2 and Diamond Dice in Race 5, both locked picks.
Damon Budler: Five rides, the most of any jockey on the card, including Aerion in Race 4 and Capdiva in Race 5.
Stables to respect:
Paul Murray (6 runners): The biggest stable on the card, with Cold Mist in Race 4 and three runners in Race 5 including Song For Lilly and Burnt Fingers.
Mitchell Beer & George Carpenter (5 runners): Ponzi Scheme in Race 5 and Girls Weekend in Race 6 are both locked picks, with Coco Dior, Lego Master and Perchance in Race 7.
Ms A Turner (5 runners): So Superior leads the Genuine pace in Race 4 and Viva Viva is our second pick in the same race, with Mochima, Swagger and Battle Warrior also in the mix.

Punty's take: Nowra is a card where the speed is mapped in just two places. Race 4 and Race 5 both have a genuine pace, and So Superior in Race 4 gets an uncontested lead from barrier 9, which makes everyone else in that race a chaser. Race 5 has Nicolosi as the only leader from barrier 8, and the Genuine pace is going to test the wide draws. The other races are moderate or slow, and that's where the sprint finishers and back-markers get their chance. Race 2 is the slow one, and nobody on the map sits handy, so the first bend will decide how the race is run.

Race 1 is the banker race on the card if you believe the numbers, with Cool As Ted at $1.65 the standout and nothing else really close in the market. Race 3 has a bit more meat in it, with Johntialjo at $3.50 leading the way. Race 4 is the chaos race. Fourteen runners, no runner above 15% probability, and the market's been moving around all over the place. Race 7 is a mid-price race with some interesting value through the back half. It's the sort of meeting where a few sharp calls can pay for the rest of the card.

What it means for you: Be aggressive in Race 2 and Race 3 with the win bets, because the form and the map support the pick in both. Protect your bankroll in Race 1 by keeping the stake sensible on a short-priced favourite, and don't go mad on the Cool As Ted win bet just because it looks easy. Race 4 and Race 5 are where the each-way bets live, because the speed is shared and the wide draws make the place a sensible way in. Race 6 and Race 7 are the value races, with Abstruse and Rebel Terra as the two bets with the best racing logic behind them.

The locked bets are the spine of the day, and the quaddie is wide open through Races 4 to 7, so the ticket is built to take the chaos rather than fight it. Don't chase the big number with extra bets, because the races that matter most are Race 2 and Race 3.

PUNTY'S BIG 3 + MULTI

These are the three bets the day leans on.

1 - Cool As Ted (Race 1, No.2) — $1.65
Why Second at Nowra over 1100m last start on the same trip today, sectionals rank 2 and rank 3 at the business end, and he's coming off 13 days rest. Shape is a touch against him, but he's the horse the rest of this race has to chase.

2 - Powerful Prayer (Race 2, No.1) — $2.30
Why The best form in a slow race, with a third at Illawarra Grange 2000m last start and a 1-1-5 record from 16 starts. He's settling back from a wide draw, but he has the sprint to finish off a slow pace.

3 - Johntialjo (Race 3, No.3) — $3.50
Why Third at Moruya 1200m last start, second at Moruya 1650m before that, and the shape helps him sitting midfield in a moderate pace. Brodie Loy is on, and the price is still fat enough to justify the bet.

Multi (all three to win): $10 × 13.28 = $132.80

Race 1 – Country Motor Company Country Boosted Mdn Plate

Race type: Maiden, 1100m
Map & tempo: Moderate pace, and nobody on the map is a clear leader, so the front will be fought over between Cape Ex from barrier 5, Cool As Ted from barrier 1 and Roselily from barrier 7. Cool As Ted from the rail gets the first sit at the front and has the best chance to pick his spot inside. The shape is a touch against him, and Loujen Francaise from the back is the one hurt most by a slow tempo.
Punty read: Cool As Ted is the one I'm putting $14 on and he's the stand-out in the race. He ran second at Nowra over 1100m last start, has sectionals that stack up, and the market has him firming from $1.85 to $1.65 which tells you the money agrees. Jenni Moo Moo is the danger, a third at Albury last start with Damon Budler on board. Cape Ex has had three starts without a placing, so I'm not convinced by him at $4.40. Roselily is a sit-handy runner from a wide draw who could find a trail if the front pair go at each other.

Top 3 + Roughie ($14.00 pool)

1. Cool As Ted (No.2) — $1.65 / $1.12
Bet $14.00 Win, return $23.10
Prob 49.0% | Place: 46.2% | Value: 0.81x Steady since tip
Why Second at Nowra over 1100m last start on the same trip, sectionals that stack up and 13 days since his last run. He's the horse that has to be beaten and the market is backing him in.
2. Jenni Moo Moo (No.5) — $3.20 / $1.57
Bet Tracked
Prob 23.9% | Place: 38.8% | Value: 0.76x Steady since tip
Why Only two places paid in a field this size, and skinny place divvies make savers a mug's game — this is a win-only race. Tracked, not staked.
3. Cape Ex (No.1) — $4.60 / $1.90
Bet Tracked
Prob 16.2% | Place: 34.1% | Value: 0.75x Steady since tip
Why Fourth at Goulburn 1200m last start with three career starts and no placings yet. Barrier 5 gives him the chance to be on the speed, but he's the one I'm least sold on at the price.

Roughie: Roselily (No.7) — $13.00 / $3.70
Bet Tracked
Prob 8.0% | Place: 20.7% | Value: 1.04x Steady since tip
Why She sits handy from a wide draw, so she has to work across to get a trail. If Cool As Ted and Cape Ex go hard at each other from barrier 1 and barrier 5, she can sneak through the middle of them.

Race 2 – South Coast Butchers Pantry Plate (C1)

Race type: Class 1, 2200m
Map & tempo: Slow pace on the map and nobody sits handy, so the race will be run from the back. The Ultimate Star from barrier 8 and Powerful Prayer from barrier 7 both need cover from the wide draws, and the shape hands the back half the advantage. Powerful Prayer has the sprint to finish off a slow tempo, but he has to be sharp to get through a crowded straight.
Punty read: Powerful Prayer is the bet at $10.50 win and I'm backing his best form in the race. He ran third at Illawarra Grange 2000m last start and has run in the places in his last few. The shape is against him from barrier 7, so he needs a clean run and a jockey who can find him an opening late. Liyah's Girl is the danger, a drifter from $2.15 to $2.75 with Pierre Boudvillain on board, and Babyfaced Assassin has been close without winning.

Top 3 + Roughie ($10.50 pool)

1. Powerful Prayer (No.1) — $2.30 / $1.10
Bet $10.50 Win, return $24.15
Prob 34.4% | Place: 70.0% | Value: 0.79x Steady since tip
Why One win and one second from 16 starts, third at Illawarra Grange 2000m last start and the sectionals are the best on the card. Keagan Latham rides and the shape is against him, so he needs the race to come to him.
2. Liyah's Girl (No.2) — $3.20 / $1.15
Bet Tracked
Prob 31.9% | Place: 70.0% | Value: 1.02x Steady since tip
Why A real chance — but at $1.15 the place the numbers don't give me enough edge to insure with. Watching, not betting.
3. Babyfaced Assassin (No.5) — $6.00 / $1.72
Bet Tracked
Prob 15.2% | Place: 46.1% | Value: 0.91x Steady since tip
Why Third at Canberra 2000m last start, and the shape hurts him as a back-marker in a slow race. Winona Costin rides and he's the one for the place if the leaders hold on.

Roughie: Mochima (No.6) — $15.00 / $3.00
Bet Tracked
Prob 5.2% | Place: 27.8% | Value: 0.78x Steady since tip
Why The money has come for him from $23.00 to $15.00, which is a signal worth noticing. He sits midfield, so he needs the race to break up in the straight and Molly Bourke to find a run.

Race 3 – Greenwell Point Bowling Club Country Boosted (Bm58)

Race type: Benchmark 58, 1400m
Map & tempo: Moderate pace with the lead up for grabs between Sure Intentions from barrier 8, Melodia Perfecta from barrier 2 and Cloud Of Dust from barrier 3. Sure Intentions has to work hard from the wide gate to cross, which could leave the two on the inside to set up the race. Johntialjo sits midfield from barrier 7 and the shape helps him, so his trip is well placed.
Punty read: Johntialjo at $3.50 is the bet and the best value in the race. He has finished third, second and second over the last three starts, has sectionals fastest over 400m and a 1-5-3 career, and the market is still generous enough at $3.50. Angel In The Wind is the danger from barrier 6 in midfield, with Damon Budler on board and 2kg up on last start. Melodia Perfecta is the one who can get on the speed from barrier 2, and Kendalia is a back-marker that the shape hurts.

Top 3 + Roughie ($13.00 pool)

1. Johntialjo (No.3) — $3.70 / $1.60
Bet $13.00 Win, return $48.10
Prob 28.3% | Place: 62.1% | Value: 1.05x Steady since tip
Why Third at Moruya 1200m last start and second at Moruya 1650m before that, with a strong sectional at the finish. Brodie Loy on board and the shape helps him sitting midfield in a moderate tempo.
2. Angel In The Wind (No.5) — $4.60 / $1.70
Bet Tracked
Prob 17.5% | Place: 50.9% | Value: 0.80x Steady since tip
Why A real chance — but at $1.70 the place the numbers don't give me enough edge to insure with. Watching, not betting.
3. Melodia Perfecta (No.8) — $7.50 / $2.45
Bet Tracked
Prob 13.8% | Place: 46.1% | Value: 1.04x Steady since tip
Why Second at Queanbeyan 1200m last start, and he's on the speed from barrier 2 which gives him a lead of his own if the front is quiet.

Roughie: Bound To Fire (No.7) — $9.00 / $2.75
Bet Tracked
Prob 7.5% | Place: 32.7% | Value: 0.68x Steady since tip
Why Fifth at Queanbeyan 1600m last start with the race wide, so the excuse is there. He has to get through a wide draw from barrier 9 and then find the late gears in a race the shape isn't built for.

Race 4 – Crookhaven Rokk Oysters Maiden Plate

Race type: Maiden, 1400m
Map & tempo: Genuine pace with So Superior the only leader from barrier 9, and Aerostern Bro from barrier 11 is the only runner who can press him. Aerion, Captain Smoker and Fierce Critic are the back-half runners the pace suits, while Invasion sits midfield from barrier 10 and the shape is against him. Invasion needs the leaders to tire and the race to come to him.
Punty read: Invasion is the each-way bet at $7.50 / $2.65 and the trainer and jockey are both running hot over the last 100 rides. He's third at Orange last start and his sectionals and place price make the each-way the sensible way in. Gianluca is firming from $6.00 to $5.00 and is a danger, placed third at Nowra 1200m last start. Adaptation is the one to watch with the blinkers coming off for the first time and synthetic hoof filler on.

Top 3 + Roughie ($10.00 pool)

1. Invasion (No.10) — $7.50 / $2.65
Bet $10.00 Each Way ($5.00W + $5.00P), collects $50.75 if it wins ($37.50 win + $13.25 place), $13.25 if it only places
Prob 13.6% | Place: 45.2% | Value: 1.02x Steady since tip
Why Third at Orange 1300m last start and the jockey and trainer are both hot over the last 100 rides. The shape is against him from midfield, so the each-way is the way to bet him with the place as the safety net.
2. Viva Viva (No.12) — $6.00 / $2.25
Bet Tracked
Prob 13.4% | Place: 46.1% | Value: 0.80x Steady since tip
Why The top pick's each-way already covers the place angle here — doubling up is paying twice for the same insurance. Tracked instead.
3. Gianluca (No.7) — $5.00 / $2.00
Bet Tracked
Prob 13.2% | Place: 46.1% | Value: 0.66x Steady since tip
Why Third at Nowra 1200m last start and the market is backing him in from $6.00 to $5.00. Chad Lever rides and he's midfield with the trip to suit.

Roughie: Cold Mist (No.5) — $18.00 / $4.20
Bet Tracked
Prob 4.3% | Place: 22.3% | Value: 0.78x Steady since tip
Why Five seconds and two thirds from 15 starts, so he's been close more times than you'd think. He's wide at barrier 14 and the shape is against him, so the path is the leaders tiring and him running on for the place.

Race 5 – Antax Steel Maiden Handicap

Race type: Maiden, 1200m
Map & tempo: Genuine pace with Nicolosi the only leader from barrier 8, and Cathedral Cove and Capdiva both need to work across from the wide draws. Machrihanish from barrier 14 is the one the shape helps most, but he's a long way back. Diamond Dice sits handy from barrier 9 and the shape is neutral for him, so he gets a clean trip behind the leader.
Punty read: Diamond Dice is the each-way bet at $4.40 / $1.82 and he's been good at placing. He ran third at Bathurst 1100m last start and has three thirds from four starts, with the speed rated second in the field. Keagan Latham is the jockey and the market has him on a fair price. Nicolosi is the danger on the lead from barrier 8, and Ponzi Scheme is the one to watch from barrier 5 sitting handy with Chad Lever on board.

Top 3 + Roughie ($15.00 pool)

1. Diamond Dice (No.7) — $4.40 / $1.82
Bet $15.00 Each Way ($7.50W + $7.50P), collects $46.65 if it wins ($33.00 win + $13.65 place), $13.65 if it only places
Prob 17.2% | Place: 70.0% | Value: 0.76x Steady since tip
Why Three thirds from four starts and third at Bathurst 1100m last start. Keagan Latham rides, barrier 9 gives him a clean sit behind the leader, and the place is the realistic payday.
2. Nicolosi (No.4) — $3.60 / $1.57
Bet Tracked
Prob 16.9% | Place: 58.1% | Value: 0.61x Steady since tip
Why The top pick's each-way already covers the place angle here — doubling up is paying twice for the same insurance. Tracked instead.
3. Ponzi Scheme (No.5) — $7.50 / $2.65
Bet Tracked
Prob 14.6% | Place: 38.9% | Value: 1.09x Steady since tip
Why Third at Moruya 1200m last start, sitting handy from barrier 5 with Chad Lever on board. Mitchell Beer & George Carpenter have five runners on the card, and this one has the trip to get the place.

Roughie: Cathedral Cove (No.2) — $10.00 / $3.10
Bet Tracked
Prob 7.7% | Place: 34.1% | Value: 0.77x Steady since tip
Why She won at Hawkesbury 1000m last start and visors come off for the first time. From barrier 13 she has to be sharp and cross the field early, but if the pace collapses up front she can make ground late.

Race 6 – Brundee Blooms Greenwell Point Cup (Bm66)

Race type: Benchmark 66, 1100m
Map & tempo: Moderate pace with two leaders in Girls Weekend from barrier 4 and Jazz All Knight from barrier 7. Jazz All Knight has to work across from the wide gate, and that could leave the field to settle behind a contested front. Abstruse from barrier 8 is well placed to pick up the trail, and the shape helps him as a back-marker.
Punty read: Abstruse is the each-way bet at $4.50 / $1.62 and he's the best-credentialled horse in the race. He has five wins and nine seconds from 43 starts, with the sectionals fastest at 400m and the time fastest. Brodie Loy rides and the contested lead sets up the race for him. Hey Jude is the danger from barrier 1 with the cross-over nose band off, and Girls Weekend is the one who can set the pace from barrier 4.

Top 3 + Roughie ($8.50 pool)

1. Abstruse (No.1) — $4.80 / $1.62
Bet $8.50 Each Way ($4.25W + $4.25P), collects $27.29 if it wins ($20.40 win + $6.89 place), $6.89 if it only places
Prob 21.6% | Place: 46.1% | Value: 1.04x Steady since tip
Why Second at Bathurst 1100m and second at Cootamundra 1100m in the last two starts, plus a win at Moruya 1020m before that. The shape helps him from the back and Brodie Loy knows how to ride him.
2. Hey Jude (No.4) — $2.75 / $1.25
Bet Tracked
Prob 18.5% | Place: 46.3% | Value: 0.51x Steady since tip
Why The top pick's each-way already covers the place angle here — doubling up is paying twice for the same insurance. Tracked instead.
3. Girls Weekend (No.2) — $4.20 / $1.55
Bet Tracked
Prob 16.2% | Place: 46.1% | Value: 0.68x Steady since tip
Why Three wins from 17 starts and the jockey is hot over the last 100 rides. He's the one who leads from barrier 4, but he's 146 days off and the first-up record is none from four so there's a question there.

Roughie: You Wish (No.7) — $9.00 / $2.45
Bet Tracked
Prob 14.1% | Place: 40.2% | Value: 1.26x Steady since tip
Why Three wins and seven seconds from 24 starts, with blinkers coming off again and the trainer hot over the last 100 rides. He's midfield from barrier 5 and if the two leaders go hard enough to set it up for the closers, he can run on.

Race 7 – Pelican Rocks Cafe Town Plate Handicap (C1)

Race type: Class 1, 1200m
Map & tempo: Moderate pace with no clear leader, and a crowded front from Lego Master, Elivina, Macaroon, Very Sirius, Perchance and Battle Warrior. Several of the leaders are drawn wide and have to work across. Rebel Terra is in midfield from barrier 12 and the shape helps the back half, so he has a trip that suits him.
Punty read: Rebel Terra is the each-way bet at $4.40 / $1.85 and he's the one I'd want in front of me. He won at Nowra 1100m on 18 October and ran second at Wagga 1200m last start, with sectionals that are the fastest at 400m and the time. Winona Costin rides and the market has him firming from $5.50 to $4.40, which tells you the money agrees. Coco Dior is the danger with blinkers on for the first time and Jean Van Overmeire on board. Cosmic Eagle is the one from barrier 3 who has won two of his last three starts.

Top 3 + Roughie ($10.50 pool)

1. Rebel Terra (No.8) — $4.40 / $1.85
Bet $10.50 Each Way ($5.25W + $5.25P), collects $32.81 if it wins ($23.10 win + $9.71 place), $9.71 if it only places
Prob 17.5% | Place: 70.0% | Value: 0.77x Steady since tip
Why Second at Wagga 1200m last start and he has won at Nowra before. He's a midfield runner the shape suits, and Winona Costin is in the saddle for a horse that's been close on his last two starts.
2. Coco Dior (No.5) — $8.00 / $2.60
Bet Tracked
Prob 14.2% | Place: 38.9% | Value: 1.14x Steady since tip
Why The top pick's each-way already covers the place angle here — doubling up is paying twice for the same insurance. Tracked instead.
3. Cosmic Eagle (No.3) — $3.10 / $1.52
Bet Tracked
Prob 13.9% | Place: 53.7% | Value: 0.43x Steady since tip
Why First at Newcastle 1250m last start and first at Rosehill 900m before that. Keagan Latham rides and he's the one with the most recent winning form in the race.

Roughie: Perchance (No.10) — $13.00 / $3.20
Bet Tracked
Prob 6.1% | Place: 29.7% | Value: 0.80x Steady since tip
Why He's shaped as a handy runner the shape doesn't favour, so his path is the front pair going at each other and him holding on. Seventh at Kembla Grange 1400m was an interference run and Pierre Boudvillain rides, so the excuse is there.

SEQUENCE LANES

QUADDIE (R4–R7)

Smart: 7,12,10,1 / 7,4,5,2 / 4,1,2,7 / 8,3,5 (192 combos x $0.33854 = $65.00) -- 33.9% flexi
Punty's take: Every leg is open, so this is a wide ticket with an $80 outlay and a 31.2% flexi, which meets the 30% floor. Race 4 and Race 5 are the chaos legs, so don't expect a short-priced winner to carry it. It's a quaddie that needs a $5 to $10 winner somewhere to pay well, and it's a play you take on the bet's own merits rather than a banker.

NUGGETS FROM THE TRACK

1 - Lego Master's blinkers are coming on
Blinkers go on for the first time in Race 7 and he's finished seventh at Kembla Grange and Newcastle in his last two runs. Watch the market and see if the blinkers change his race.

2 - Ulysses Blue's winkers are new
Winkers go on for the first time in Race 3 and he's two wins from six first-up starts. The price has him at $12.00 so the market's not overly excited, but the first-up record is worth a look.

3 - Dubai Centre has seen it all
The veteran in Race 3 has 68 starts and seven wins, and he's drifting from $23.00 to $29.00. He's the kind of horse you'd want to watch if you like a long-career type at a long price, and he's a Dubai Centre who's been around longer than most of the field has been alive.

FINAL WORD FROM THE SICKO SANCTUARY

Nowra has the bones of a proper country meeting, with the speed in the right spots and a few races that'll punish anyone who's lazy about the draw. Back the locked bets, respect the chaos races, and don't let a single bad run in Race 1 make you chase Race 4 like a drongo.
