Punty's Early Mail
For all of Punty's tips for Woodville, head to https://punty.ai/tips/woodville-2026-11-01
Rightio Degenerates, Woodville on a Good 4 with the rail out 2m from the winning post to the 1550m mark, and a card that runs from 1200m to 2100m. Plenty of pace on paper in a couple of places, a few maidens where the form is thin as a wet paper bag, and a clear plan for every race if you read the maps properly.
MEET SNAPSHOT
Track: Woodville, 1200m to 2100m card
Rail: Out 2m from WP to 1550, remainder True
Official going: Good 4
Weather: Fine, gusts 31.5km/h
Early lane guess: unknown pre-race, watch the first two
Tempo profile: Mostly Moderate and Slow paces on the maps, with Race 2 the only Genuine Pace race on the card for the sprinters and Race 6 the other speed-heavy sprint. Races 1, 3, 4, 5, 7 and 8 all have a settled look about them, so the front-runners will be running their own race in most of them.
Jockeys to follow:
Jonathan Riddell: Seven rides on the card, including All On Red in Race 3, our Race 3 win bet. His rides at Woodville have a strike rate of 11.1% (541/4893).
Lily Sutherland: Seven rides, with Possess in Race 5 and Vanbrugh Belle in Race 6 on the speed. Her rides at Woodville are at 9.2% (184/2001), so she is a solid rider rather than a hero.
Masahiro Hashizume: Seven rides, including Wailea in Race 6 and Sevenayes in Race 5. He runs at 9.1% (324/3560) at Woodville, so the bigger angle is on the horses he rides rather than the man himself.
Stables to respect:
Ms L Latta (10 runners): Ten runners is a serious army. All On Red in Race 3 is their best chance on the card, and they have a couple of tickets in the mid-range that deserve a second look.
Kevin & Stephen Gray (8 runners): Jungle Jane in Race 7 is the roughie from this barn, and Zetel and Exaggeration both bring something to the table.
K T Myers (7 runners): Wingman is not theirs, but Possess in Race 5, Steadfast in Race 8 and Time After Time in Race 4 all come from this yard, and the trainer's Woodville numbers are sound.
Punty's take: Race 5 is the one that stands out on the sheet. Wingman has form that barely needs explaining, a clear edge on the numbers, and a jockey who knows the track. It is the banker of the day in my book, and the only race where I'm happy to tell you the market has it about right. Race 3 is more of a tangled mess, with a slow tempo and a field of fifteen where the back half gets to pick its spots. All On Red has the best of the form, but he is drawn wide and needs to be ridden well from the back.
The speed in Race 2 is all in one place. Just A Prize is the only leader, and Stylish, our pick, sits back from barrier 1, so the pace setup depends on whether the leader can go off and hold them out. Race 6 is similar, with No Love Lost the only leader and Wailea sitting handy. Race 8 gives you two leaders in Tukituki and Charlunga, so that one can get messy up front. Race 1 is a maiden at 2100m with a slow tempo, which is exactly the sort of race where the closers can get rolled.
What it means for you: Be aggressive on Wingman in Race 5, it is the cleanest bet of the day and the one I'm most comfortable with. Keep the stakes tight in the chaos races, Races 1, 3 and 4, where the favourites have their own issues. Race 7 is a moderate-pace benchmark with Blue Jeanie carrying the most solid profile, but the field is competitive enough that I'm not in a hurry to load up. Protect yourself on the roughies, keep them small, and let the bigger stakes sit on the races where the map and the market agree.
PUNTY'S BIG 3 + MULTI
These are the three bets the day leans on.
The Big 3 multi figures were not supplied for this meeting, so there is no Big 3 spine in this mail. The race-by-race locked selections below are the bets to follow.
Race 1 – JWB Construction Mdn
Race type: Maiden, 2100m
Map & tempo: Slow pace on the map, with nobody mapping to lead outright. Tukipo from barrier 5 is the likeliest to find the front, and the back half of the field, Borrowed Time, Basilthegreek and Rose Du Jeu, are all drawn wide and need cover. Sicarius settles back from barrier 8, so the shape suits a horse that can get a clear run late. The one to take notice of is Tukipo, because if nobody else wants the front, the race is his to shape.
Punty read: Sicarius is the bet and the one I'm happiest about. Last start he ran 3rd at Woodville 2100m, the same trip, and his Woodville 2100m form is what has me interested. He has a jockey with a strong strike rate at this track and a 15.2% (189/1243) figure, so he has every chance to sit in the right spot. Borrowed Time has the better record on paper, with a 4th at New Plymouth on his last start, but his barrier 11 is a long way from where he needs to be. Magical Bloom is the one I'd keep an eye on if the slow tempo gets the closers into the race.
Top 3 + Roughie ($12.00 pool)
1. Sicarius (No.3) — $9.50 / place tote
Bet $12.00 Each Way ($6.00W + $6.00P), collects $57.00 plus the tote place dividend if it wins, the tote place dividend if it only places
Prob 25.1% | Place: 46.1% | Value: 2.38x
Why Same trip last start for a 3rd at Woodville 2100m, and the jockey's strike rate at this track is better than most of this field. Settles back from barrier 8 and gets a soft run in a slow race.
2. Borrowed Time (No.1) — $5.21 / place tote
Bet Tracked
Prob 17.0% | Place: 44.2% | Value: 0.89x
Why The top pick's each-way already covers the place angle here — doubling up is paying twice for the same insurance. Tracked instead.
3. Magical Bloom (No.10) — $23.00 / place tote
Bet Tracked
Prob 11.6% | Place: 45.6% | Value: 2.67x
Why Bumped and hampered at Waverley 1650m last start, and her trainer has a 13.1% (60/459) strike rate at this track. She is a live chance if the race falls apart in the straight.
Roughie: Heavenly Blessed (No.9) — $9.35 / place tote
Bet Tracked
Prob 8.9% | Place: 29.3% | Value: 0.83x
Why Has run 2nd at Waverley 1650m on the form and was held up last start, so the run is there. Barrier 2 gives her a chance to get a clean sit on the rail if the pace is moderate.
Race 2 – Lady Of The Pack Mdn
Race type: Maiden, 1200m
Map & tempo: Genuine pace with Just A Prize the only leader from barrier 3, and Port Chalmer from barrier 4 the nearest to press. Delicate Truth and No Such Number are both drawn wide and will have to work to get cover. Stylish sits back from barrier 1, so he needs the leader to go hard and fade. The shape is a bit against the one who wants to lead but gives the closers a real chance if the speed holds.
Punty read: Stylish is the bet. He is the best-rated horse on the sheet, his probability is well clear of the field, and the jockey booking is still open, which is a bit of a worry. He ran 4th at Taupo last start and has form that puts him in the mix. Port Chalmer is the one I don't want to dismiss. He was 2nd at Woodville 1200m last start, the same trip, and is the most likely to press Just A Prize. Mr Chow has the closing run if the race turns into a sprint.
Top 3 + Roughie ($15.00 pool)
1. Stylish (No.13) — $4.20 / place tote
Bet $15.00 Win, return $63.00
Prob 29.2% | Place: 53.5% | Value: 1.23x
Why Ran 4th at Taupo 1100m last start and has the best profile on the card. Settles back from barrier 1, which means he needs a genuine pace to get his chance, and this one has it.
2. Port Chalmer (No.1) — $4.98 / place tote
Bet Tracked
Prob 18.9% | Place: 46.1% | Value: 0.94x
Why A real chance — but at that price the place the numbers don't give me enough edge to insure with. Watching, not betting.
3. Mr Chow (No.6) — $7.19 / place tote
Bet Tracked
Prob 13.6% | Place: 35.0% | Value: 0.98x
Why Ran 10th at Taupo last start, bumped and hampered, and he has form at this distance. Sits midfield so he needs the leader to crack.
Roughie: Ivy Lee (No.15) — $27.00 / place tote
Bet Tracked
Prob 4.9% | Place: 22.3% | Value: 1.33x
Why Dual acceptor, runs in Race 6 too, so the jockey is booked there. If she's in this race, the 2kg rise on the last start is the only thing you need to watch. Only worth a flutter for the bold.
Race 3 – Glengyle Angus Mdn
Race type: Maiden, 1400m
Map & tempo: Slow pace on the map. Prince Tivaci from barrier 13 and Evensong from barrier 15 are the likeliest to find the front, but both are drawn wide and have to work across. All On Red sits back from barrier 11, and Thunder Squirrel from barrier 14 is also wide. The slow tempo suits the closers if they can get clear of the traffic, and that's the bet.
Punty read: All On Red is the bet and the horse I think the market has right. He ran 2nd at Waverley 1400m on his last start and has the best form of anyone in the field. Jonathan Riddell rides him, and the trainer is running 10 horses, so the stable is in form. Thunder Squirrel has the pace style to be near the front and gets a sit if the speed is slow. Evensong is a closer with a nice record, but the draw makes it hard.
Top 3 + Roughie ($18.00 pool)
1. All On Red (No.1) — $6.50 / place tote
Bet $13.00 Win, return $84.50
Prob 36.8% | Place: 61.3% | Value: 2.39x
Why Last start 2nd at Waverley 1400m, and was raced wide on the 5th before that. Has the best closing form in the race and a jockey who knows how to ride a closer.
2. Thunder Squirrel (No.2) — $6.50 / place tote
Bet $5.00 Place, pays the tote place dividend
Prob 17.1% | Place: 53.2% | Value: 1.11x
Why 4th at Woodville 1200m last start, and the jockey's recent form is hot. Barrier 14 is a problem, but the slow tempo helps a horse with this speed.
3. Evensong (No.9) — $7.87 / place tote
Bet Tracked
Prob 11.7% | Place: 34.1% | Value: 0.92x
Why 3rd at Waverley 1400m last start, and the form is solid. The barrier 15 draw is the problem, and it is the reason the price is generous.
Roughie: Tifosi (No.10) — $10.64 / place tote
Bet Tracked
Prob 8.2% | Place: 29.3% | Value: 0.87x
Why Returns off a 231 day break and has run 2nd at Woodville before. The first-up record is 2:0-0-1, so he is not a complete mug, and the slow tempo could help him settle.
Race 4 – Doo You Want Me Syndicate Mdn
Race type: Maiden, 1400m
Map & tempo: Moderate pace with Zetel from barrier 16, Inthemickoftime from barrier 15 and Hangup from barrier 11 the likeliest to go forward. The two widest runners have to work hard to get across. Time After Time sits back and needs the speed to collapse. Port Chalmer is a dual acceptor and is not booked in this race, so I'm treating the price as the number to watch and nothing else.
Punty read: Port Chalmer is the bet, and he is the horse to beat on the numbers. His win probability is clear of the field, and the form is genuine, with a 2nd at Woodville 1200m last start. The jockey column shows no rider booked in this race, which is the one question mark. Time After Time is the one who can run into a place if the speed holds up at the front. May Wirth has the trainer in form and the pace sits right for a back-marker.
Top 3 + Roughie ($18.00 pool)
1. Port Chalmer (No.19) — $4.50 / place tote
Bet $13.00 Win, return $58.50
Prob 33.2% | Place: 70.0% | Value: 1.49x
Why Has the best form in the race and a 2nd at Woodville 1200m last start. Has to be respected even at a short price, and the place chance is the reason I'm on him.
2. Time After Time (No.10) — $9.00 / place tote
Bet $5.00 Place, pays the tote place dividend
Prob 16.7% | Place: 43.3% | Value: 1.50x
Why 7th at Waverley 1650m last start and bumped at Te Aroha before that. The moderate pace is what he wants, and his trainer is hot at this track.
3. Inthemickoftime (No.3) — $12.00 / place tote
Bet Tracked
Prob 7.5% | Place: 32.7% | Value: 0.90x
Why Bumped and hampered at Woodville 1100m last start, and the first-up record is 2:0-0-0. Her price is generous if the moderate pace suits, but she needs luck.
Roughie: May Wirth (No.13) — $15.38 / place tote
Bet Tracked
Prob 5.6% | Place: 24.1% | Value: 0.86x
Why Has the trainer's strike rate behind him, and the trainer is hot at 16.1%. Barrier 1 gives him a sit on the rail if the pace is moderate, and the price makes him a bold roughie.
Race 5 – Jones Brothers Painting (Bm75)
Race type: Benchmark 75, 1400m
Map & tempo: Moderate pace. Possess from barrier 6 is the most likely to find the front, with Meglio Di Falcrest from barrier 4 and Red Lady from barrier 2 pressing. Wingman sits midfield from barrier 5, which is the right spot. The shape suits a horse sitting handy, and Wingman has the trip and the form to win from there.
Punty read: Wingman is the bet and the one I'm most confident about on the card. He has a 4:1-0-4 profile in the record at this distance and the sectional time on his last start was the fastest in the race. At 2.74 he is short, but the edge is real and the place is also strong. Sevenayes is the one I'd want if Wingman gets squeezed. Meglio Di Falcrest has the speed and a strong profile at this distance, but his race record in the weights is a warning.
Top 3 + Roughie ($15.00 pool)
1. Wingman (No.1) — $2.74 / place tote
Bet $15.00 Win, return $41.10
Prob 43.9% | Place: 59.1% | Value: 1.20x
Why Fastest sectional on the last start, and a 3rd at Otaki 1400m last start. The distance record is strong and his jockey is at home in the moderate tempo.
2. Sevenayes (No.4) — $5.50 / place tote
Bet Tracked
Prob 19.6% | Place: 38.8% | Value: 1.08x
Why Only two places paid in a field this size, and skinny place divvies make savers a mug's game — this is a win-only race. Tracked, not staked.
3. Meglio Di Falcrest (No.8) — $8.13 / place tote
Bet Tracked
Prob 12.2% | Place: 27.8% | Value: 0.99x
Why 57 starts, a stack of form at this distance, and sits on the speed. Has been raced wide and interfered with recently, so the run is there to be made up.
Roughie: Red Lady (No.9) — $15.38 / place tote
Bet Tracked
Prob 4.5% | Place: 16.6% | Value: 0.70x
Why Two wins at Awapuni Synthetic in the last few months, and the trainer is hot at 13.1%. He sits on the speed, so if Possess and Meglio Di Falcrest go hard, he can run on.
Race 6 – BWAG Best Windows & Glass (Bm65)
Race type: Benchmark 65, 1200m
Map & tempo: Genuine pace with No Love Lost the only leader from barrier 4, and Rubirosa, Miss Fireball, Wailea and Littleredcorvette all pressing from the outside. Wailea sits handy from barrier 8, which is the right place to be if No Love Lost gets pressed. Portrush, Savachi Boy and Ivy Lee are all drawn wide and need cover, so the closers have to be patient.
Punty read: Wailea is the bet. He ran 6th at Ellerslie last start but won at Waverley 1200m earlier in the spring, and the sectional times on the card are the fastest in the race. Jonathan Riddell and the trainer are a good combo, and the jockey is booked on his best horse. No Love Lost is the one to watch if the front-running is genuine, and Miss Fireball can run into a place if the leader is pressed.
Top 3 + Roughie ($8.50 pool)
1. Wailea (No.9) — $5.00 / place tote
Bet $8.50 Win, return $42.50
Prob 18.5% | Place: 46.1% | Value: 0.93x
Why Won at Waverley 1200m earlier this year and has the sectional times to back it up. Sits handy from barrier 8, which is about right for a genuine pace.
2. No Love Lost (No.8) — $6.29 / place tote
Bet Tracked
Prob 15.9% | Place: 38.9% | Value: 1.00x
Why A real chance — but at that price the place the numbers don't give me enough edge to insure with. Watching, not betting.
3. Miss Fireball (No.6) — $6.94 / place tote
Bet Tracked
Prob 14.9% | Place: 42.7% | Value: 1.03x
Why 3rd at Waverley 1200m last start and 3rd at Hawera 1200m before that. She has the closing form and the pace setup that helps.
Roughie: Savachi Boy (No.4) — $10.00 / place tote
Bet Tracked
Prob 14.1% | Place: 38.8% | Value: 1.41x
Why Won at Woodville 1400m last start and has been held up and raced wide in recent runs. Barrier 11 is a problem, but the sectionals are good and the price is generous.
Race 7 – Entain/NZB Insurance Pearl Series (Bm65)
Race type: Benchmark 65, 1400m
Map & tempo: Moderate pace with six runners able to lead. Blue Jeanie from barrier 7 and Pinky Pie from barrier 8 are the wide runners that have to work to cross. Aim To Miss from barrier 3 and Sight Unseen from barrier 6 are the ones who can take the trail, so the shape suits a horse on or near the speed. Blue Jeanie is the horse who needs the pace to be fair.
Punty read: Blue Jeanie is the bet. He has the sectional time that stands out, and the win chance is the highest on the card. He was 6th at Wanganui last start and got held up, so there is an excuse. The price is the question, but I'm on him because the form is good enough at this trip. Aim To Miss is the one to watch, with a 1st at Otaki 1400m last start and the jockey hot at this track.
Top 3 + Roughie ($13.00 pool)
1. Blue Jeanie (No.1) — $7.50 / place tote
Bet $13.00 Win, return $97.50
Prob 24.3% | Place: 46.1% | Value: 1.82x
Why Fastest sectional on the card and was unlucky at Wanganui 2040m last start. Settles handy from barrier 7 in a race where the speed is there to be shared.
2. Aim To Miss (No.9) — $4.93 / place tote
Bet Tracked
Prob 22.1% | Place: 46.1% | Value: 1.09x
Why A real chance — but at that price the place the numbers don't give me enough edge to insure with. Watching, not betting.
3. Piccolino (No.2) — $5.46 / place tote
Bet Tracked
Prob 19.1% | Place: 46.1% | Value: 1.04x
Why Ran 3rd at Tauherenikau 1600m earlier in the year and has the best record at good tracks on this card. Held up last start and can be a big chance if he gets the run.
Roughie: Jungle Jane (No.5) — $12.20 / place tote
Bet Tracked
Prob 9.7% | Place: 32.7% | Value: 1.18x
Why Ran 5th at Waverley 1200m last start and was interfered with before that. Sits on the speed from barrier 1 and the trainer is at 13.1%, so the price is fair if the race is run fast enough.
Race 8 – PGG Wrightson Dannevirke (Bm65)
Race type: Benchmark 65, 1600m
Map & tempo: Moderate pace with Tukituki from barrier 7 and Charlunga from barrier 6 both mapping to lead, so the lead is contested. Loose Jewels sits midfield from barrier 4, which is the right spot for a closer. Steadfast, Beyond Me and Riomosa are all drawn wide and need cover. The shape suits the horses who can sit off the speed, and that's the way to read it.
Punty read: Loose Jewels is the bet. He has the best win and place chance on the card, and the trainer has a strong record at this track. He was 7th at Ellerslie last start but was raced wide and bumped, so the run is there. Tukituki is the one who can take the front and lead the race from barrier 7. Altezza is the value pick with a place bet in the mix, and his place price is the reason we're playing him.
Top 3 + Roughie ($23.50 pool)
1. Loose Jewels (No.6) — $3.94 / place tote
Bet $8.50 Win, return $33.49
Prob 27.6% | Place: 46.6% | Value: 1.09x
Why The best win and place chance on the card, and was 7th at Ellerslie 2100m with a bump and wide run. Sits midfield from barrier 4 and the trainer has a 23.1% strike rate at this track.
2. Tukituki (No.2) — $10.00 / place tote
Bet $5.00 Place, pays the tote place dividend
Prob 20.4% | Place: 46.1% | Value: 2.04x
Why Leads from barrier 7 and has the sectionals to back up the front-running. Ran 7th at Hastings 2200m last start but was bumped, so the form is good enough at this trip.
3. Altezza (No.11) — $14.29 / place tote
Bet $10.00 Place, pays the tote place dividend
Prob 9.8% | Place: 32.7% | Value: 1.40x
Why Fastest sectional on the card and a 3rd at Waverley 2200m last start earlier in the spring. The place value is strong, and the play is on the place rather than the win.
Roughie: Charlunga (No.4) — $11.63 / place tote
Bet Tracked
Prob 9.2% | Place: 30.2% | Value: 1.07x
Why Leads from barrier 6 and won at Wanganui 1600m last start. If Tukituki and Charlunga go hard and the field stays in, Charlunga can hold on for a place.
SEQUENCE LANES
The pre-built sequence tickets were not supplied for this meeting, so no Early Quaddie, Quaddie or Big 6 tickets are printed here.
NUGGETS FROM THE TRACK
1 - Sicarius is back at the trip he ran 3rd at
Sicarius ran 3rd at Woodville 2100m last start, the same trip he meets again in Race 1. The jockey is 15.2% at this track, so the ride is not the worry.
2 - Pinky Pie carries a weight warning
Pinky Pie is flagged 1/3 at 54-54kg against 0/7 at heavier weights. Riomosa in Race 8 carries a similar flag at 0/4 at 58-59kg, so it's worth a look at the weights before the market moves.
3 - Stylish has only run once
Stylish is a one-start maiden with a 4th at Taupo on the sheet, and he is $3.22 in Race 2. Anyone who can tell you the price doesn't match the run has a chance to win a few quid on the day.
FINAL WORD FROM THE SICKO SANCTUARY
Back Wingman with a clear head, keep the roughies small, and remember the rail is out and nobody knows which lane is on song until the first two have done their work. Good luck, you Ratbags.
