Punty's Punts
Race type: Open, 1000m
Map & tempo: Slow pace, likely tight footy in the first 200m, then sprinting for room
Punty read: This is a little "who's got the best engine" deal on soft ground at the sprint trip. No.7 All That Class has the sharpest profile for winning on the day, and she should be right in the mix early. No.8 Malastar is too short to ignore and is the obvious benchmark. No.4 Ochre can absolutely run through his gears late if the track isn't getting any worse, but the value is in the top side of the market today.
Top 3 + Roughie ($10.50 pool)
1. All That Class (No.7) — $5.20 / $1.75 🏆 3RD
Bet $10.50 Each Way ($5.25W + $5.25P) — Cashed, net -$1.31
Prob 28.1% | Place: 46.1% | Value: 1.63x
Why She's the pick of the speed profile, and with a soft deck it usually suits horses that can hold their momentum. Market support backs it up.
2. Malastar (No.8) — $2.36 / $1.22 🏆 2ND
Bet Tracked
Prob 28.1% | Place: 46.1% | Value: 0.75x
Why The top pick's each-way already covers the place angle here — doubling up is paying twice for the same insurance. Tracked instead.
3. Ochre (No.4) — $8.00 / $2.30 🏆 UNPLACED
Bet Tracked
Prob 14.8% | Place: 36.2% | Value: 1.28x
Why He's got value, but you're already covering the places in the main bet and the line gets crowded.
Roughie: Masquerade Man (No.3) — $10.00 / $2.65 🏆 UNPLACED
Bet Tracked
Prob 7.5% | Place: 24.1% | Value: 1.21x
Why Roughie path is there if a few jump poorly and the pace stays soft, but I'm not overloading the ticket.
Race type: HANDICAP, 2200m
Map & tempo: Slow pace, backmarkers can lurk and still have a crack
Punty read: This is a stayers race where the wrong trip costs you, and soft ground makes the finish more savage. No.5 Abissi is the one I want up in the winning photo, because the tempo should give him time to find clear air and then run on. No.7 Dark Looks is live if he can sit mid and not get trapped in wet traffic, and No.2 Miss Veuve is the type that can bounce off a troubled run, but I'll be leaning away from dutch courage on her win price.
Top 3 + Roughie ($15.00 pool)
1. Abissi (No.5) — $2.84 / $1.60 🏆 WINNER
Bet $15.00 Win — ✓ Won, net +$27.60
Prob 33.1% | Place: 58.6% | Value: 1.10x
Why He should get a solid sit in a race that won't sprint early, then hit the line with enough gas. The grade looks manageable.
2. Dark Looks (No.7) — $5.00 / $2.35 🏆 3RD
Bet Tracked
Prob 18.9% | Place: 34.1% | Value: 1.11x
Why Only two places paid in a field this size, and skinny place divvies make savers a mug's game — this is a win-only race. Tracked, not staked.
3. Miss Veuve (No.2) — $5.00 / $2.25 🏆 4TH
Bet Tracked
Prob 17.6% | Place: 38.9% | Value: 1.03x
Why She can run on, but the win price isn't screaming value and the ticket is already got a plan.
Roughie: Bondi Star (No.6) — $13.00 / $3.60 🏆 UNPLACED
Bet Tracked
Prob 8.4% | Place: 24.1% | Value: 1.18x
Why If the speed collapses you can dream, but on a slow 2200m you need luck too.
Race type: HANDICAP, 1100m
Map & tempo: Moderate pace, on-pacers get the best chances early
Punty read: This is a sprint handicap where the leaders don't have to do anything heroic, just keep rolling. No.2 Fantaxtic should be on the speed and take the sting out of the race. No.3 Diamond Dancer and No.4 Espresso Time are the classic "show up and fight it out" types, especially if the track is holding together. The rough chance is Rise To Glory, but she's more of a value dream if they shuffle back early.
Top 3 + Roughie ($7.50 pool)
1. Fantaxtic (No.2) — $5.00 / $1.95 🏆 10TH
Bet $7.50 Win — ✗ Lost, net -$7.50
Prob 19.5% | Place: 38.8% | Value: 1.17x
Why She's got the right blend of pace and recent form, soft tracks can help her quick action late.
2. Diamond Dancer (No.3) — $5.70 / $2.15 🏆 8TH
Bet Tracked
Prob 15.3% | Place: 35.7% | Value: 1.03x
Why A real chance — but at $2.15 the place the numbers don't give me enough edge to insure with. Watching, not betting.
3. Espresso Time (No.4) — $6.60 / $2.20 🏆 6TH
Bet Tracked
Prob 14.2% | Place: 34.1% | Value: 1.08x
Why She can run, but the ticket is pointed at the best win spot.
Roughie: Rise To Glory (No.7) — $13.50 / $3.40 🏆 11TH
Bet Tracked
Prob 5.2% | Place: 17.8% | Value: 0.80x
Why If the speed is honest, she's the one that can slice through and surprise, but I'm keeping stakes tight.
Race type: HANDICAP, 1400m
Map & tempo: Moderate pace, on-pacers get a better map than the deep closers
Punty read: Here's your mid-distance battle where the start matters. No.6 So Si God is the key, he should get a trip that lets him roll into the race properly. No.3 Street Band can be a value place play if the race breaks up, and No.13 Vampi Queen is the sort that can sneak a top three if the tempo stays fair. The chaos angle is wide, but we're not going full ratbag, we're taking the sensible chaos.
Top 3 + Roughie ($10.50 pool)
1. So Si God (No.6) — $3.00 / $1.45 🏆 2ND
Bet $10.50 Win — ✗ Lost, net -$10.50
Prob 28.8% | Place: 63.5% | Value: 1.07x
Why Soft ground suits horses who can keep running through the middle stages, and his map fits the pattern.
2. Street Band (No.3) — $8.00 / $2.65 🏆 3RD
Bet Tracked
Prob 14.9% | Place: 46.1% | Value: 1.43x
Why A real chance — but at $2.65 the place the numbers don't give me enough edge to insure with. Watching, not betting.
3. Vampi Queen (No.13) — $6.00 / $2.25 🏆 UNPLACED
Bet Tracked
Prob 11.7% | Place: 46.1% | Value: 0.83x
Why She's got ability, but the value on the day is not there for me.
Roughie: Mind Field (No.7) — $7.00 / $2.50 🏆 UNPLACED
Bet Tracked
Prob 8.4% | Place: 32.7% | Value: 1.05x
Why Needs a bit of chaos and a clean run, and with 16 runners on Soft 5, that's never guaranteed.
Race type: HANDICAP, 1400m
Map & tempo: Genuine pace, leaders honest and the race sets up for genuine run-ons
Punty read: This one is built for horses that can handle pressure, because the leaders should go. No.7 Aberdeen Flyer is the right kind of weapon, he's going to be prominent enough without doing silly work. No.9 Pond Master can run into the finish if there's a crack, and No.1 Multinational has the class but may need everything to fall right. Speed Dream is your roughie if the race turns into a footy brawl at the 400m.
Top 3 + Roughie ($10.50 pool)
★ PUNTY'S PICK 1. Aberdeen Flyer (No.7) — $2.66 / $1.25 🏆 2ND
Bet $10.50 Win — ✗ Lost, net -$10.50
Prob 38.0% | Place: 70.0% | Value: 1.17x
Why With genuine pace, the horse who can keep finding under pressure gets home, and he's got the profile to do it.
2. Pond Master (No.9) — $5.70 / $1.85 🏆 9TH
Bet Tracked
Prob 14.4% | Place: 46.1% | Value: 0.94x
Why A real chance — but at $1.85 the place the numbers don't give me enough edge to insure with. Watching, not betting.
3. Multinational (No.1) — $6.50 / $2.05 🏆 4TH
Bet Tracked
Prob 12.5% | Place: 46.1% | Value: 0.90x
Why Big race runner, but today I'd rather be on the better-shaped main pick.
Roughie: Speed Dream (No.6) — $18.00 / $3.40 🏆 8TH
Bet Tracked
Prob 4.8% | Place: 24.1% | Value: 0.83x
Why If the speed collapses late, she can swoop and ruin the party. Otherwise, it's a tough ask.
Race type: HANDICAP, 1000m
Map & tempo: Moderate pace, sprint pattern, positioning is everything
Punty read: Sprint on Soft 5 is chaos by default, and this one has two clear characters that want to run through the finish. No.8 Bassett Hound is my pick, he's doing it consistently and should get a proper go at the line. No.9 Like Clockwork is the other one, dangerous if the race stays together. For the rest, they need everything to line up and then some.
Top 3 + Roughie ($12.00 pool)
★ PUNTY'S PICK 1. Bassett Hound (No.8) — $2.54 / $1.15 🏆 WINNER
Bet $12.00 Each Way ($6.00W + $6.00P) — ✓ Won, net +$10.14
Prob 37.6% | Place: 52.1% | Value: 1.12x
Why Straight up sprinter profile with current form that actually backs it, and the draw is workable in a sprint.
2. Like Clockwork (No.9) — $2.20 / $1.13 🏆 2ND
Bet Tracked
Prob 25.6% | Place: 52.1% | Value: 0.63x
Why The top pick's each-way already covers the place angle here — doubling up is paying twice for the same insurance. Tracked instead.
3. Thermosphere Lad (No.4) — $18.50 / $3.00 🏆 9TH
Bet Tracked
Prob 6.8% | Place: 24.4% | Value: 1.43x
Why Big price dream, but it's not the best value play to add on top of the EW.
Roughie: Snitzalatte (No.6) — $9.00 / $2.20 🏆 8TH
Bet Tracked
Prob 6.2% | Place: 24.1% | Value: 0.86x
Why Has to find the right run and hope the leaders do a little more than survive.
Race type: HANDICAP, 1600m
Map & tempo: Genuine pace, midfield turns it into a staying sprint
Punty read: This is a 1600 where you want someone who can sit near enough to the action without getting stranded. No.7 Streamlined looks like the one with the best blend of map and run profile. No.10 Vexatious Rose can pop up in the quinella conversation if the tempo isn't too brutal. No.1 Back To Bondi is a real "overachiever" type, but I'm not swapping the main pick. Roughie I'm Nipote is value if they open up in the straight.
Top 3 + Roughie ($10.50 pool)
1. Streamlined (No.7) — $4.00 / $1.72 🏆 WINNER
Bet $10.50 Win — ✓ Won, net +$31.50
Prob 22.4% | Place: 55.4% | Value: 1.01x
Why He's built to take advantage when the leaders go, and the track should reward runners who can keep momentum.
2. Vexatious Rose (No.10) — $8.40 / $2.75 🏆 3RD
Bet Tracked
Prob 15.5% | Place: 46.1% | Value: 1.49x
Why A real chance — but at $2.75 the place the numbers don't give me enough edge to insure with. Watching, not betting.
3. Back To Bondi (No.1) — $6.00 / $2.20 🏆 UNPLACED
Bet Tracked
Prob 13.4% | Place: 38.9% | Value: 0.93x
Why Solid enough, but the top pick has the better route into the straight.
Roughie: I'm Nipote (No.9) — $9.60 / $2.80 🏆 2ND
Bet Tracked
Prob 9.5% | Place: 32.7% | Value: 1.03x
Why Needs the right setup and a bit of luck, but if he finds clear air he can make it spicy.
Race type: HANDICAP, 1400m
Map & tempo: Moderate pace, middle of the track gets a crack at them
Punty read: 1400 on Soft 5 is about balance, and it's rarely a "fly up and win" race. No.11 Truly Loyal has the class and the profile to be there when it matters. No.9 Streak Of God is the one with the value win angle if the race turns into a sprint in the straight. No.8 Snow God can place if the pace is steady, but I'm not chasing him to win at that number.
Top 3 + Roughie ($10.50 pool)
1. Truly Loyal (No.11) — $2.46 / $1.32 🏆 WINNER
Bet $10.50 Win — ✓ Won, net +$15.33
Prob 27.1% | Place: 70.0% | Value: 0.79x
Why He maps well enough to be in the mix and can wear them down late, Soft 5 suits his grind.
2. Streak Of God (No.9) — $9.40 / $2.70 🏆 UNPLACED
Bet Tracked
Prob 14.1% | Place: 38.9% | Value: 1.57x
Why A real chance — but at $2.70 the place the numbers don't give me enough edge to insure with. Watching, not betting.
3. Snow God (No.8) — $4.60 / $1.75 🏆 UNPLACED
Bet Tracked
Prob 13.8% | Place: 46.1% | Value: 0.74x
Why Price and value don't line up on the win bet.
Roughie: Memory Parade (No.1) — $13.50 / $3.10 🏆 UNPLACED
Bet Tracked
Prob 8.3% | Place: 32.7% | Value: 1.27x
Why If you get a scramble late, he can pick off pieces. Otherwise he's a bit of a lottery ticket.
Race type: Open, 1000m
Map & tempo: Hot pace, speed contest, early position is king
Punty read: This is a marquee 1000 where the first 150m decides everything. No.6 Aurum Belle is the benchmark speed, and with a hot tempo he gets every chance to run his race. No.1 Afireofgidgeecoals can pressure and peel off, and No.2 Maria Lucia is a real contender if she finds clear air early. Roughie Big Red Zoom is for the punters who enjoy sweating through their shirt.
Top 3 + Roughie ($10.50 pool)
1. Aurum Belle (No.6) — $2.70 / $1.40 🏆 UNPLACED
Bet $10.50 Win — ✗ Lost, net -$10.50
Prob 26.7% | Place: 61.5% | Value: 0.87x
Why Speed on Speed 5, that's the script. If he jumps clean, the race is built for him to finish strong.
2. Afireofgidgeecoals (No.1) — $5.50 / $2.00 🏆 2ND
Bet Tracked
Prob 17.1% | Place: 54.5% | Value: 1.11x
Why A real chance — but at $2.00 the place the numbers don't give me enough edge to insure with. Watching, not betting.
3. Maria Lucia (No.2) — $7.00 / $2.50 🏆 UNPLACED
Bet Tracked
Prob 13.6% | Place: 52.0% | Value: 1.12x
Why Strong place profile, but win line isn't the play for me.
Roughie: Big Red Zoom (No.7) — $10.00 / $3.20 🏆 WINNER
Bet Tracked
Prob 10.9% | Place: 44.3% | Value: 1.38x
Why Needs some pressure up front and a clean run into the straight, classic 1000 roughie path.
Race type: HANDICAP, 1200m
Map & tempo: Moderate pace, midfield battles, smart position earns the kick
Punty read: 1200 on soft is where the "not too far back" horses eat. No.4 Fine Star is the one I want, because the map and form point to him having the best chance to run through the line. No.2 Kraken Time is the danger, especially if she can sit comfy and then peel. No.8 Cosmic Treat is value if the race turns into a sprint late. Roughie I'm Crafty is the sneaky "gets a run" type.
Top 3 + Roughie ($15.00 pool)
1. Fine Star (No.4) — $2.65 / $1.40 🏆 4TH
Bet $15.00 Win — ✗ Lost, net -$15.00

Bet Tracked
Prob 21.3% | Place: 46.1% | Value: 1.38x
Why A real chance — but at $2.15 the place the numbers don't give me enough edge to insure with. Watching, not betting.
3. Cosmic Treat (No.8) — $7.50 / $2.50 🏆 UNPLACED
Bet Tracked
Prob 13.6% | Place: 45.3% | Value: 1.17x
Why Value's massive, but the saver line says this needs to be left alone.

Bet Tracked
Prob 7.8% | Place: 29.3% | Value: 1.03x
Why Needs a good run and the straight to set up, otherwise it's just a warm-up for next time.

Meeting Stats
Selections
Punty's Early Mail
Rightio Loose Units, Ascot on a Soft 5 with the rail jammed out, that means one thing, you better be on the bit early or you'll be waddling home behind a wall of mud and bad decisions.
MEET SNAPSHOT
Track: Ascot, 1000-2200m card
Rail: True
Official going: Soft 5 (expected to play Wet and holding, with leaders fending off late swoopers)
Weather: Shower or two, 19°C, humidity 52%, wind 24km/h W (watch for a bit of chaos if the gusts crank, wide-ish runners pay for it)
Early lane guess: Sticking closer to the inside early, but don't get cute late, if you're too far off you'll feel the wind and the track
Tempo profile: Slow to genuine at the early end, then pockets of speed turn up in the later sprints
Jockeys to follow:
Chris Parnham: lots of rides, and he's the type that turns a run into a result.
Ms Holly Nottle: she's got plenty of chances and knows how to steer through messy conditions.
Ms Lucy Fiore: lots of runners, and when she gets an even cart she's hard to hold out.
Stables to respect:
N D Parnham (8 runners): normally strong at getting them ready, especially when the pace plan looks right.
S & J Casey (7 runners): they pop up in the right races, the sort that don't need a pep talk.
D & B Pearce (6 runners): watch for their horses to run much better than their "maybe" form suggests on soft tracks.
Punty's take:
Soft 5 at Ascot is the great equaliser and the great liar. Everything feels like it has a chance until you watch the speed map, then you realise who's actually getting the right trip. Early on, I'm watching for races where the tempo is slow enough that a horse can tuck in behind the speed without going backwards, those are your "plug away and hit the line" contests.
From there, the later sprint races are where you earn your cornflakes. If a runner maps near the speed, and the draw isn't a joke, you don't overthink it. Wide runners might still run a race, but with that moderate crosswind, they're doing extra work. It's like taking the long way home after a footy grand final party, you arrive sweaty and regretful.
Stables with multiple chances are going to be busy, especially N D Parnham and S & J Casey. And in the betting, I like to look for the horse that's been backed for a reason, not just because someone's had a good dream. If the form and the map line up, I'll take the shorter path to the finish.
What it means for you:
My game plan is pretty simple, be aggressive where the map says "get on with it", then protect yourself with place in the spots where traffic and wet ground can rob you of the win. In the later quarters of the card, I'm not chasing long, tangled stories unless the favourite is too short to ignore and the value swings elsewhere.
The day's spine is built around three winners that should get the right run, Abissi, Aberdeen Flyer, and Bassett Hound. After that, I'll sprinkle in the best "right race" rough chances where the value looks playable and the conditions suit.
