1700m · Benchmark 80; · 12:15
✗ MISS -$10 Final

Race type: Benchmark 80, 1700m
Map & tempo: Genuine Pace, with Just Desserts the LEADER and others settling off it
Punty read:
This is a "who gets to breathe" race. You've got the leaders pencilled in, but the headwind later means if you're stuck finding a gap you're losing. Veyepee (No.6) is the market anchor for a reason, she's quick early and this track shape suits her. In'kantosstar (No.9) is the danger because she's drawn like a missile (barrier 1) and she can work into the race without being forced too far back, which matters when the straightwind's chasing you.

Top 3 + Roughie ($10.50 pool)

1. Veyepee (No.6) — $2.80 / $1.40 🏆 6TH
Bet $10.50 Win — ✗ Lost, net -$10.50
Prob 28.9% | Place: 70.0% | Value: 0.86x
Why She's on the pace profile and the run is set up for a horse that can keep rolling early. When the tempo is genuine, short prices earn their keep.

2. In'kantosstar (No.9) — $4.20 / $1.72 🏆 WINNER
Bet Tracked
Prob 25.1% | Place: 62.6% | Value: 1.14x
Why A real chance — but at $1.72 the place the numbers don't give me enough edge to insure with. Watching, not betting.

3. Just Desserts (No.10) — $4.80 / $1.80 🏆 3RD
Bet Tracked
Prob 19.0% | Place: 54.0% | Value: 0.98x
Why If she gets her trip as a genuine leader, she can hang on through the wind. That's the whole deal at Caulfield.

Roughie: Classic Gem (No.8) — $15.00 / $2.85 🏆 5TH
Bet Tracked
Prob 4.4% | Place: 22.3% | Value: 0.68x
Why She's the "if it goes pear-shaped, then maybe" runner, but you're not forcing it with a stiff roughie when the leaders look set to run.

✓ WON +$38 Final

Race type: Open, 1200m
Map & tempo: Genuine Pace, Roseatic is the LEADER, others press mid
Punty read:
This looks like a real 1200m sprint where positioning is everything, and it's got that hot-pulse feel where one misstep costs you. Sequinned (No.5) has the speed to sit closer and the finish to keep going, and the market's backing her anyway. Roseatic (No.10) is a live leader type, but you know how it goes on Caulfield short courses, if she's doing it too long she can fade under the last grind.

Top 3 + Roughie ($15.00 pool)

1. Sequinned (No.5) — $3.50 / $1.45 🏆 WINNER
Bet $15.00 Win — ✓ Won, net +$37.50
Prob 27.4% | Place: 70.0% | Value: 1.02x

Bet Tracked
Prob 12.7% | Place: 46.1% | Value: 1.19x
Why She's a value leader type, and in a hot tempo, leaders can still bank a chunk of the finish.

Roughie: Jacaranda (No.4) — $9.40 / $2.45 🏆 3RD
Bet Tracked
Prob 9.9% | Place: 38.8% | Value: 0.96x
Why She can be there late if she avoids a slow start, but this is a tight sprint where midfield runs get messy.

✗ MISS -$2 Final

Race type: Open, 1600m
Map & tempo: Moderate Pace, Savitri and Surfin' Bird are ON-PACE, others midfield
Punty read:
1600 on turf at Caulfield is where you want a horse that can hold its ground through the middle and still reel something in late. Savitri (No.9) is the one I'm circling, drawn to run her sort, and her map screams "do not give her a sit-and-suffocate run." Surfin' Bird (No.1) is right there too, the sort who makes it a contest by staying up in the race.

Moonlight Circus (No.12) is your roughie because this is where drifting prices often mean "she wasn't offered too hard yet," then suddenly the gaps appear and she's running.

Top 3 + Roughie ($13.00 pool)

1. Savitri (No.9) — $4.50 / $1.75 🏆 2ND
Bet $13.00 Each Way ($6.50W + $6.50P) — Cashed, net -$1.62

Bet Tracked
Prob 12.4% | Place: 46.1% | Value: 0.62x

Map & tempo: Genuine Pace, Future History as LEADER, danger is backmarkers if pace isn't taxing
Punty read:
2400 at Caulfield is a slow-burner, but today the pace map says it's still genuine enough that the race doesn't turn into a procession. Future History (No.3) is the market anchor for a reason, he likes being on with a mission, but I've got a soft spot for runners who can keep momentum without being asked to do too much.

Pinhole (No.12) is the short-ish price for the staying crew and Zakouma (No.4) is the value pocket. Machine Gun Gracie (No.9) is your roughie, because when these bigger fields stretch out, the right backmarker can slam home.

Top 3 + Roughie ($7.00 pool)

1. Pinhole (No.12) — $4.10 / $1.65 🏆 WINNER
Bet $7.00 Win — ✓ Won, net +$21.70

✗ MISS -$15 Final

Race type: Open, 1200m
Map & tempo: Hot Pace, Bridal Waltz and Point Barrow are in the mix up front
Punty read:
This is the type of 1200 where the first 300m decides your life. Bridal Waltz (No.7) is the best balance of gate, pace and finish, and the market has her pinned at the right level. Point Barrow (No.2) is dangerous because she's built to run on, and when a hot tempo happens, the "last one standing" gets a big payday for being in the right spot.

I'm not overcomplicating it, you want to be on the horses that can handle a hot race shape.

Top 3 + Roughie ($15.00 pool)

Race type: Open, 1100m
Map & tempo: Genuine Pace, Jigsaw is the LEADER, Flying For Fun midfield pressure
Punty read:
1100 at Caulfield is a sprint-bout, if you're on the front and you can manage the straight, you're hard to run down. Jigsaw (No.1) maps to lead and keep breathing, and this is the exact type of race where "being first" turns into "being last" for everyone else. Rey Magnerio (No.2) is the class threat, and Flying For Fun (No.8) is the value runner that can hit the line like a rocket if the inside holds.

This race's vibe is basically like the opening scene of Mad Max, everybody's revving, and Jigsaw is the one grabbing the wheel.

Top 3 + Roughie ($15.00 pool)

Race type: Open, 2000m
Map & tempo: Slow Pace, Sheza Alibi is MIDFIELD and can stalk without being chased
Punty read:
Slow 2000s can be tricky, because the race can feel like it's going nowhere. But Sheza Alibi (No.6) is the kind of horse that turns slow into dangerous, she's the one that can sit in the right spot and still run past them when it finally matters.

Birdman (No.1) is the obvious alternate, but he's got to time it, and on Caulfield wind, timing gets everything harder for the ones coming late. Treasurethe Moment is a value sprinkle only because it's thin on the place side for roughies.

Top 3 + Roughie ($15.00 pool)

★ PUNTY'S PICK 1. Sheza Alibi (No.6) — $1.43 / $1.01 🏆 2ND
Bet $15.00 Win — ✗ Lost, net -$15.00
Prob 65.0% | Place: 70.0% | Value: 0.98x

Map & tempo: Slow Pace, Warwoven on the map pressure with Blind Raise and others
Punty read:
Classic Caulfield Guineas stuff, it can get tactical, then it gets fast when everyone realises the gate's already shut. Warwoven (No.2) is the main play because the pace suits, and she's got the kind of profile that can sit just off things. Blind Raise (No.5) is the hard-knocker on the speed, and Tron Bolt (No.4) is the value you use when the big names are likely to collide.

I'm not going wild here, this is a race you respect. Pick the ones that look like they can hit the line without needing a miracle gap.

This is a 1600 where you can't just guess the winner by vibes. Lady Shenandoah (No.2) is the clean chance, drawn well enough and she has a run style that can sit in a pocket and then show up. Evaporate (No.1) is the on-pace threat who's built to go the distance, and Changing Colours (No.13) has the kind of profile that can get into the mix if the race gets crowded.

The roughie is Sabaj (No.8), because sometimes the blinkers-on type comes back in a flash when people stop looking mid-race.

1400 at Caulfield is a "don't be too far back, don't be too far forward" sort of puzzle. Steparty (No.5) is the play, because she's got the finish profile and can land in the right tempo without getting cooked. Harry's Yacht (No.12) is a value threat with the right map to keep momentum.

Persian Spirit (No.13) is the one that can surprise if the leaders take a narrow path to the finish, which sometimes happens when the field bunches up.

Punty's Early Mail

Rightio Loose Units, Caulfield's got that Good 4 bite, rail's True, wind's playing tug-o-war down the straight. That means if you're on the speed you're laughing, if you're sitting back you're doing the whole "please don't fade" prayer like it's a Netflix season finale.

Big picture for me today, it's a speed-versus-stamina day, with the headwind on the straight making it harder for the deep closers to pin their ears back late. So yeah, we're backing the ones that look like they can take a breath, not ones that need a miracle whistle. And we've got a clean spine for the multis, Sheza Alibi through Jigsaw to Bridal Waltz. Three horses who feel like they've been pre-drunk on confidence.

Now I'll walk you race by race, top three plus a roughie punt, then I'll chuck in the lanes, the Big 3 + Multi, and a few nuggets for your punting brain. Let's go sort it out, Legends.

MEET SNAPSHOT

Track: Good 4, 10 race card
Rail: True Entire Circuit
Official going: Good 4 (expected to play On-pace off the speed, closers struggle when the straight wind bites)
Weather: Partly cloudy, 18°C, humidity 47%, wind 24km/h WNW (watch for moderate gusts, headwind up the straight)
Early lane guess: Early Quaddie (R3-R6) looks value-shallow, Quaddie (R7-R10) gets spicy
Tempo profile: Genuine pace early, then class races that still reward the ones who can travel, not the ones who chase ghosts
Jockeys to follow:
Ethan Brown: works well through traffic and keeps options alive
Craig Williams: deadly when the race shape suits, and he's at big meetings for a reason
Mark Zahra: calm head, good hands, and he turns runs into results
Stables to respect:
C Maher (15 runners): heaps of live chances across the card, and they know how to place them on the right day
C J Waller (12 runners): when Waller brings 'em, they're usually fit and on the map
Ben, Will & Jd Hayes (5 runners): this crew keeps finding places in the big ones, even when the race looks hard

Punty's take:

Caulfield on a Good 4 with a real headwind up the straight is basically the track telling you, "Front runners, you get to keep doing what you do, fuckers." The on-pacers get a chance to ride in rhythm, and the backmarkers cop that extra sting when they try to sprint through the wind in the last bit. If you're a closer today you've gotta be classy enough to offset it, or you've gotta get a run covered with cover and a clean seam.

Race 7 to me screams one of those "short price for a reason" situations, Sheza Alibi looks tailor-made for this sort of tempo, and she's the kind of horse that turns a slow 2000 into a workmanlike hit-out. Then Race 6, Jigsaw is a freaky consistent type, and Jigsaw at Caulfield sprints is like putting the key in the ignition, you just know it starts. Race 5 is your multi glue, Bridal Waltz looks like the best mix of gate, pace and finish.

What I'm watching in the mid-meeting is value in the Open races where market confidence can get weird. Race 3's turf middle ground gives Savitri a real lane to run straight, and Race 4's staying type is often where one or two "value" horses slip into the frame when the pace isn't as hard as they thought.

What it means for you:

Be aggressive early in the card, especially Races 3 to 6. That's where you're getting the best blend of "can win" and "doesn't need chaos." For the later Quaddie legs, don't over-stretch, keep it structured. If the race map says speed, then speed wins, simple as that.

Bets-wise, I'm leaning into win confidence on the short-priced horses where the draw and running style line up, and then I'm grabbing roughies where the race shape can collapse. The day's not about gambling blind, it's about spotting when the straight wind turns the back half into a grind.

If you want the playbook: lock the Big 3, build around them for your multis, and for the Quaddie lanes keep the open races wider but don't get cute. Today rewards punters who respect the track, not punters who treat it like a coin toss.
