Punty's Punts
Race type: Maiden, 1550m
Map & tempo: Slow Pace, Savvy Nights and Misil Beauty advantaged early, Lady Colonist is the pocket rocket near midfield
Punty read:
This feels like a two-lane race, midfield first, then the finish starts getting real in the last stretch. Lady Colonist (No.6) is the one I want, because even if the pace is slow, she's not a "hope and pray" type. She maps to work through traffic without needing to win the race at the start, and her recent sectionals style tells me she'll be running on rather than just doing laps.
Meet The Prince (No.10) is next up in the pecking order, mainly because he can get into that handy spot and has the sort of preparation pattern where you see a sharp improvement when the right conditions line up. Misil Beauty (No.7) has the blinkers on first time today, and that's the sort of gear change that can flip a maiden race from "show up" to "get serious".
Top 3 + Roughie ($13.00 pool)
1. Lady Colonist (No.6) — $2.76 / $1.37 🏆 7TH
Bet $13.00 Win — ✗ Lost, net -$13.00
Prob 25.6% | Place: 70.0% | Value: 1.37x
Why Market support and a clean run profile, midfield map with finishing ability, this is her race to lose.
2. Meet The Prince (No.10) — $4.60 / $1.62 🏆 2ND
Bet Tracked
Prob 20.7% | Place: 54.2% | Value: 1.21x
Why A real chance — but at $1.62 the place the numbers don't give me enough edge to insure with. Watching, not betting.
3. Misil Beauty (No.7) — $4.50 🏆 WINNER
Bet Tracked
Prob 14.5% | Place: 46.1% | Value: 0.65x
Why Blinkers first time is the key, but I'm not in love enough to put the house on it.
Roughie: An Poitin Still (No.1) — $8.50 🏆 9TH
Bet Tracked
Prob 6.9% | Place: 29.3% | Value: 0.59x
Why If the race collapses late, he can swoop, but he's too far down the ladder to be a main bet today.
Race type: Maiden, 1175m
Map & tempo: Moderate Pace, Iron Stupa and Wombat likely to be positioned early
Punty read:
Short 1100-ish races at Manangatang are all about being switched on from the jump. Iron Stupa (No.2) looks like the one who can sit in the right part of the field without getting stuck too far back, and the tempo being moderate helps her stay in range.
Wombat (No.3) is the danger if there's any hesitation, because she's got the style to move up and hold ground. Minty (No.10) is there as a third option, but this is one of those races where you want the horse that gets the trip. I'm not trying to beat the map.
Top 3 + Roughie ($15.00 pool)
1. Iron Stupa (No.2) — $3.40 🏆 3RD
Bet $15.00 Win — ✗ Lost, net -$15.00
Prob 30.1% | Place: 70.0% | Value: 1.02x
Why Close enough to strike, and the short course means you don't need to be a magician, just be in the right spot.
2. Wombat (No.3) — $5.50 🏆 UNPLACED
Bet Tracked
Prob 14.9% | Place: 46.1% | Value: 0.82x
Why A real chance — but at that price the place the numbers don't give me enough edge to insure with. Watching, not betting.
3. Minty (No.10) — $7.00 / $2.35 🏆 UNPLACED
Bet Tracked
Prob 10.4% | Place: 38.8% | Value: 0.88x
Why Could improve, but she's not the one I want leading into the thick of it.
Roughie: Whata Stretch (No.11) — $13.00 🏆 4TH
Bet Tracked
Prob 7.6% | Place: 29.3% | Value: 0.98x
Why Long shot upside, but you're chasing chaos in a race that rewards positioning.
Race type: BM52, 1175m
Map & tempo: Genuine Pace, Ponte Arcobaleno and Yaki Ishi likely pressing in midfield, Zamora around the leaders
Punty read:
Genuine pace on, so the race becomes about who can keep the tempo and not pay for it late. Ponte Arcobaleno (No.2) is getting the attention for a reason, she can stalk the right part of the race and still have something left at the business end.
Yaki Ishi (No.5) is a massive show if the leaders give each other space, because she's in that on-pace sweet spot where she can lift without needing to go super wide. Zamora (No.3) is the leader type, but with winkers off today, you're watching for the "settle and go" rather than a flat-out sprint.
Top 3 + Roughie ($10.50 pool)
1. Ponte Arcobaleno (No.2) — $4.40 🏆 WINNER
Bet $10.50 Each Way ($5.25W + $5.25P) — ✓ Won, net +$21.52
Prob 25.4% | Place: 62.7% | Value: 1.12x
Why Pace is on, she's mapped to be involved without doing too much, and she should still be there when others start thinning.
2. Yaki Ishi (No.5) — $4.90 / $1.75 🏆 8TH
Bet Tracked
Prob 25.1% | Place: 61.5% | Value: 1.49x
Why The top pick's each-way already covers the place angle here — doubling up is paying twice for the same insurance. Tracked instead.
3. Zamora (No.3) — $3.20 / $1.50 🏆 7TH
Bet Tracked
Prob 12.6% | Place: 38.9% | Value: 0.49x
Why She has the lead profile, but the value isn't there for me when I've got better upside on the place targets.
Roughie: Attaboom (No.6) — $7.50 🏆 3RD
Bet Tracked
Prob 7.6% | Place: 32.7% | Value: 0.57x
Why If the pace cracks, he can push through, but this is still a touch too hard to bank.
Race type: BM52, 1175m
Map & tempo: Moderate Pace, American Russ and the leaders get first crack, but it's a short grind
Punty read:
Short course, BM52, and everyone's chasing that "I'm close enough to win at the jump-in phase" position. Sports Choice (No.10) has the right profile for this, and the race shape looks like it sets up for an honest horse to keep finding.
American Russ (No.3) can absolutely be there at the finish, because that leader map is the one that gets paid at this track when tempo is on. The Mount (No.2) is the one I'm watching for the "late challenge after a patient run" angle.
Top 3 + Roughie ($10.50 pool)
1. Sports Choice (No.10) — $4.80 / $1.72 🏆 2ND
Bet $10.50 Each Way ($5.25W + $5.25P) — Cashed, net -$1.47
Prob 24.7% | Place: 46.1% | Value: 1.47x
Why The pace setup suits him, and he should get every chance to hit the line strong without getting swallowed.
2. American Russ (No.3) — $4.80 🏆 3RD
Bet Tracked
Prob 16.7% | Place: 46.1% | Value: 0.80x
Why The top pick's each-way already covers the place angle here — doubling up is paying twice for the same insurance. Tracked instead.
3. The Mount (No.2) — $4.98 / $1.82 🏆 WINNER
Bet Tracked
Prob 13.7% | Place: 51.5% | Value: 0.84x
Why He's in the right mix, but I prefer to protect the stake around the sharper price.
Roughie: Winds Of March (No.4) — $18.00 / $3.70 🏆 UNPLACED
Bet Tracked
Prob 5.2% | Place: 24.1% | Value: 1.00x
Why Needs everything to line up, and with short distance, it can be all or nothing.
Race type: BM56, 1175m
Map & tempo: Genuine Pace, Sir Loyne on-pace and Kikkuli and Popthebubbly can press through
Punty read:
This is the kind of BM56 where leaders set it up and the rest have to prove they can sustain. Sir Loyne (No.1) draws where he can get involved early without needing a miracle. And with this pace being genuine, the horses that can stay honest through the middle stages are the ones that finish the story.
Chosen Venture (No.5) has the look of a stalking type, Popthebubbly (No.9) can get into the race with the right run, and Charleston Lane (No.11) is the flashy each-way-ish roughie type if the race breaks wide.
Top 3 + Roughie ($10.50 pool)
1. Sir Loyne (No.1) — $3.50 🏆 WINNER
Bet $10.50 Win — ✓ Won, net +$26.25
Prob 20.8% | Place: 51.6% | Value: 0.73x
Why Mapped to be on the job, and the genuine pace means he can keep doing what he does without getting pinned in.
2. Chosen Venture (No.5) — $4.80 🏆 5TH
Bet Tracked
Prob 13.7% | Place: 45.9% | Value: 0.66x
Why A real chance — but at that price the place the numbers don't give me enough edge to insure with. Watching, not betting.
3. Popthebubbly (No.9) — $6.40 / $2.20 🏆 4TH
Bet Tracked
Prob 13.2% | Place: 46.1% | Value: 1.02x
Why I like the way she can press, but I'm not forcing it when there's a strong win anchor.
Roughie: Charleston Lane (No.11) — $9.60 / $2.75 🏆 7TH
Bet Tracked
Prob 8.3% | Place: 32.7% | Value: 0.95x
Why If the leaders wobble, she can carve through, but she's a "one of those" for me today.
Race type: BM52, 1550m
Map & tempo: Slow Pace, Anchor Down advantaged, and Bower Boy looks set to track the right tempo
Punty read:
1550m in slow tempo is where you want the horse that travels into the race and doesn't get stuck making up ground on tired legs. Bower Boy (No.2) is the one for me. He's set up to keep a rhythm, and when it's slow, the ability to be right there matters more than flash.
Anchor Down (No.5) has the pace-advantaged profile, so if the rail run is kind, she can pick up late. Shal Exceed (No.11) is a bit of a value look too, but I'd rather back the one I trust to be in range.
Top 3 + Roughie ($13.00 pool)
1. Bower Boy (No.2) — $4.60 / $1.75 🏆 2ND
Bet $13.00 Win — ✗ Lost, net -$13.00
Prob 21.1% | Place: 57.2% | Value: 1.19x
Why Slow pace means trips win, and he's the type to get the run and keep finding in the run home.
2. Anchor Down (No.5) — $5.00 / $1.82 🏆 UNPLACED
Bet Tracked
Prob 18.4% | Place: 53.2% | Value: 1.13x
Why A real chance — but at $1.82 the place the numbers don't give me enough edge to insure with. Watching, not betting.
3. Shal Exceed (No.11) — $4.20 🏆 UNPLACED
Bet Tracked
Prob 15.2% | Place: 46.1% | Value: 0.64x
Why Could place, but I want my win at the better-fit price.
Roughie: Bannerton (No.1) — $9.60 / $2.80 🏆 UNPLACED
Bet Tracked
Prob 6.9% | Place: 28.0% | Value: 0.83x
Why Needs a run to open, but with slow tempo, those gaps can appear fast.
Race type: Open, 2000m
Map & tempo: Slow Pace, Isalot and Dartboard can press midfield, Tyusix is the clear class in the map
Punty read:
This is a 2000m open where the pace being slow means the race turns tactical. Tyusix (No.3) is the one I can see doing the smart stuff, not the frantic stuff. The map suits, and at his price, he's not just a favourite, he's the favourite that can actually win without getting dragged into chaos.
Dartboard (No.4) is the value pivot because he can get into the right position and still have punch late. Miracle Spin (No.1) is another one who can grind away, and Saxon Blood (No.7) is always live if the race turns into a proper staying scrap.
Top 3 + Roughie ($7.50 pool)
★ PUNTY'S PICK 1. Tyusix (No.3) — $2.00 🏆 4TH
Bet $7.50 Win — ✗ Lost, net -$7.50
Prob 44.2% | Place: 70.0% | Value: 0.88x
Why Tactical race, slow tempo, and he's got the legs and positioning to keep control at the business end.
2. Dartboard (No.4) — $8.40 / $2.10 🏆 3RD
Bet Tracked
Prob 15.6% | Place: 46.1% | Value: 1.60x
Why A real chance — but at $2.10 the place the numbers don't give me enough edge to insure with. Watching, not betting.
3. Miracle Spin (No.1) — $5.00 🏆 WINNER
Bet Tracked
Prob 10.8% | Place: 46.1% | Value: 0.54x
Why Can run a big one, but today I'm sticking to the main win lane.
Roughie: Isalot (No.12) — $20.00 / $3.50 🏆 5TH
Bet Tracked
Prob 4.7% | Place: 24.3% | Value: 1.14x
Why Needs everything to break his way, but if it does, it turns into a movie finish.
Race type: BM52, 2000m
Map & tempo: Hot Pace, leaders lining up, and it becomes a real test of who can run the middle section clean
Punty read:
Hot 2000m usually sorts the pretenders from the fighters. Ginger Sweet (No.9) is the one I want Each Way. At this distance, the kick matters, but more importantly, the ability to keep switching lanes and not lose momentum off the turn matters.
Sandastan (No.2) is a short-priced type on paper, Pendante (No.7) can run into the finish if she gets a clean path, and The Stock Route (No.5) is a danger if the leaders go too hard and stop early.
Top 3 + Roughie ($10.50 pool)
1. Ginger Sweet (No.9) — $4.20 🏆 2ND
Bet $10.50 Each Way ($5.25W + $5.25P) — Cashed, net -$1.58
Prob 25.8% | Place: 54.0% | Value: 1.08x
Why Each Way shape in a hot race, she can land in that perfect pocket and hit the line when it counts.
2. Sandastan (No.2) — $3.00 / $1.40 🏆 WINNER
Bet Tracked
Prob 21.7% | Place: 56.6% | Value: 0.83x
Why The top pick's each-way already covers the place angle here — doubling up is paying twice for the same insurance. Tracked instead.
3. Pendante (No.7) — $8.00 / $2.45 🏆 3RD
Bet Tracked
Prob 11.2% | Place: 34.1% | Value: 1.11x
Why Can hit the frame, but I'm not buying extra chaos on top of the EW anchor.
Roughie: Dusty's Deel (No.3) — $8.00 🏆 4TH
Bet Tracked
Prob 6.4% | Place: 24.4% | Value: 0.51x
Why If the race collapses late, sure, but in a hot tempo you usually need more luck than you want.

Punty's Early Mail
Rightio Loose Units, Manangatang's a Good 4 with the rail True and the wind doing that annoying little howl, so we're betting for clean runs and smart positioning. It's one of those cards where the speed settles early, the backmarkers need luck, and the prices get you only if you've got the nerve to trust the right profile.
You've got a clear spine through the middle of the card. Race 2 starts the party with Iron Stupa, then we roll into the big weekender story in Race 7 with Tyusix. Finish the day with Ginger Sweet in Race 8, where the Each Way play looks like the kind of bet you make when you can see the whole turn of foot from the stands.
Let's get into it, no fluff, just the racing.
MEET SNAPSHOT
Track: Manangatang, 1175-2000m card
Rail: True Entire Circuit
Official going: Good 4 (expected to play Speed vs Stamina)
Weather: Cloudy, 19°C, humidity 47%, wind 27km/h, gusts around 38.9km/h (watch for the chill that can sharpen pace early)
Early lane guess: Inside to midfield keeps you out of trouble
Tempo profile: Slow to moderate early, then it heats up in the back half of the card
Jockeys to follow:
Jack Martin: 8 rides, and he keeps landing when the form says go
Ms Chelsea Taylor: 8 rides, plenty of chances to turn up at the right end of the race
Lachlan King: 6 rides, good hands on a clean trip
Stables to respect:
Andrew Bobbin (5 runners): He's got enough runners here to be live in multiple races
Ben Brisbourne (5 runners): His horses are usually ready to run, and today screams "fit and firing"
Heath Chalmers (4 runners): Gets them into the race with intent, especially where pace is manageable
Punty's take:
This is a Good 4 where the rail being True Entire Circuit usually means the leaders get every chance to hold a line, but it's the midfield that wins you money if they time their run. When pace is slow, it's often a "one bad step and you're in the shadow realm" situation, so I'm liking horses drawn to get a trip, and ones with gear that helps them concentrate.
I've also got a massive soft spot for the market when it's supported late, but I'm not blindly following it. If the price firms and the horse fits the pace map, that's when I get interested. When something drifts hard, I get suspicious, even if the form looks okay on paper. The card's not forgiving, so we're picking our moments.
The other thing, Race 7 and Race 8 are where you win the day. Race 7 is the kind of open class where one horse gets through clean, but the value comes from the runner that can slot in and pounce. Race 8 turns into a proper BM52 grind, and the Each Way horse there is screaming "pay me for being reasonable".
What it means for you:
Bet aggressive early where the story's clean, then get surgical as the fields get tougher. In Race 1 I'm locking a strong profile, but I'm not chasing everything at once, because maiden races at this track can be chaotic. Keep your powder dry for the races where the pace map matters more.
Your practical game plan is simple:
- Get the spine: Iron Stupa, Tyusix, Ginger Sweet.
- Use place leverage as insurance in the mid to late races, because the tempo and rail profile can leave winners late.
- Don't overcomplicate the exotics if you want dividends, keep it tight around the top chances and one roughie if the price makes sense.
Now grab your ticket, and don't let the wind talk you into dumb decisions.
