Punty's Punts
Race type: Open, 1000m
Map & tempo: Slow Pace, sprint shape where positioning matters more than it looks
Punty read: This is a two-horse sort of story early, then the Soft 5 turns it into a test of who can keep rhythm. Venus Invicta (No.2) is the one who jumps into the race proper and makes the others chase her feet. Highwire Queen (No.1) is the danger because she can sit close and get the run through at the finish, even if she's a little more exposed in odds drift.
Top 3 + Roughie ($15.00 pool)
★ PUNTY'S PICK 1. Venus Invicta (No.2) — $1.54 / $1.42 🏆 WINNER
Bet $15.00 Win — ✓ Won, net +$8.10
Prob 43.6% | Place: 70.0% | Value: 0.74x
Why Straightforward sprint setup, market support, and she's basically built to keep coming on Soft 5.
2. Highwire Queen (No.1) — $3.30 / $1.09 🏆 3RD
Bet Tracked
Prob 31.6% | Place: 61.5% | Value: 1.16x
Why Only two places paid in a field this size, and skinny place divvies make savers a mug's game — this is a win-only race. Tracked, not staked.
3. Mishani Kimitsu (No.5) — $17.00 / $2.60 🏆 4TH
Bet Tracked
Prob 5.6% | Place: 20.7% | Value: 0.93x
Why Price is big, and she needs everything to fall perfectly, no second chances here.
Roughie: Miss Kobi (No.7) — $20.00 / $2.75 🏆 6TH
Bet Tracked
Prob 5.4% | Place: 17.8% | Value: 1.36x
Why Roughie path is simple, if the pace wobbles, she's the swooper that gets the right moment.
Race type: Benchmark 78, 1400m
Map & tempo: Moderate Pace, pace advantage should shape the middle distance grind
Punty read: Bat Out Of Hell (No.5) looks like he's getting every chance to sit on pace and go again late. But the Soft 5 factor means you can't just assume the front holds on, you need the horse who can keep accelerating without burning. Metaphorically (No.1) is the one who can slide into the race and make it messy, and Superalloy (No.6) has the right profile to be right there when the tempo changes.
Top 3 + Roughie ($10.50 pool)
1. Bat Out Of Hell (No.5) — $3.20 / $1.40 🏆 WINNER
Bet $10.50 Win — ✓ Won, net +$23.10
Prob 25.6% | Place: 59.9% | Value: 0.93x

2. Metaphorically (No.1) — $4.40 / $1.65 SCR
Bet Tracked
Prob 18.2% | Place: 46.1% | Value: 0.89x
Why A real chance — but at $1.65 the place the numbers don't give me enough edge to insure with. Watching, not betting.
3. Superalloy (No.6) — $5.50 / $1.75 🏆 3RD
Bet Tracked
Prob 16.3% | Place: 54.5% | Value: 1.00x
Why He's live for a placing run, just not enough edge to go full send.
Roughie: Kingdom Undersiege (No.8) — $7.00 / $2.10 🏆 8TH
Bet Tracked
Prob 8.6% | Place: 32.7% | Value: 0.89x
Why If the tempo stutters, he can do the "run on at the end" thing and sneak a show.
Race type: Class 3, 1200m
Map & tempo: Slow Pace, speed helps but the finish still matters
Punty read: Dr Farthing (No.5) is my kind of horse in a Class 3 sprint, steady, balanced, and not needing a miracle to put himself in the finish. Dark Arts (No.4) is the one who looks ready to pounce if there's any gap, while Puff 'n' Harry (No.1) is the likely early presence that can hold a position before the run to the line.
Top 3 + Roughie ($15.00 pool)
1. Dr Farthing (No.5) — $3.90 / $1.72 🏆 8TH
Bet $15.00 Win — ✗ Lost, net -$15.00
Prob 28.8% | Place: 70.0% | Value: 1.31x
Why Strong win profile, and Soft 5 makes that late push even more dangerous for the rest.
2. Dark Arts (No.4) — $3.50 / $1.60 🏆 3RD
Bet Tracked
Prob 20.6% | Place: 58.5% | Value: 0.81x
Why A real chance — but at $1.60 the place the numbers don't give me enough edge to insure with. Watching, not betting.
3. Champagne Lane (No.6) — $5.50 / $2.10 🏆 6TH
Bet Tracked
Prob 15.9% | Place: 59.0% | Value: 1.01x
Why Can be in the fight, but he needs the right run and a clean straight.
Roughie: Vanessi (No.10) — $15.50 / $3.20 🏆 WINNER
Bet Tracked
Prob 4.0% | Place: 22.3% | Value: 0.69x
Why Roughie win path is a late swoop with everything else going wrong for the favourites.
Race type: Open, 1300m
Map & tempo: Slow Pace, this is a "who stays switched on through the grind" race
Punty read: Ashkirk (No.1) is the class of the map, and Kickup Rocky (No.2) is the one who looks like he can keep applying pressure late without getting swallowed. Graffitude (No.6) is in the mix if the race runs even enough for her to stay in touch.
Top 3 + Roughie ($15.00 pool)
1. Ashkirk (No.1) — $4.20 / $1.70 🏆 2ND
Bet $15.00 Each Way ($7.50W + $7.50P) — Cashed, net -$2.25
Prob 21.1% | Place: 54.2% | Value: 1.04x
Why Soft 5 suits her stamina, and she maps well enough to take the race into the straight.
2. Kickup Rocky (No.2) — $6.50 / $2.30 🏆 WINNER
Bet Tracked
Prob 18.7% | Place: 51.5% | Value: 1.33x
Why The top pick's each-way already covers the place angle here — doubling up is paying twice for the same insurance. Tracked instead.
3. Graffitude (No.6) — $4.40 / $1.75 🏆 3RD
Bet Tracked
Prob 18.3% | Place: 58.6% | Value: 0.94x
Why Solid, but the win value is a little meh versus the better value in the top pair.
Roughie: Unloading (No.4) — $12.00 / $3.10 🏆 6TH
Bet Tracked
Prob 5.8% | Place: 24.4% | Value: 0.70x
Why Needs a crack late, but if the field bunches, he can slide into one of those spots.
Race type: Benchmark 78, 1800m
Map & tempo: Moderate Pace, classic distance where movement matters
Punty read: Barbray (No.3) and Galway Flyer (No.12) are the duo I want on my side in this 1800. Soft 5 over classic trip means you can get lapped by momentum, so it's not just about speed, it's about staying balanced through the middle stages. Mirra Impact (No.5) is there for the ride, especially if the race doesn't get too frantic.
Top 3 + Roughie ($7.50 pool)
1. Barbray (No.3) — $5.00 / $1.90 🏆 4TH
Bet $7.50 Each Way ($3.75W + $3.75P) — ✗ Lost, net -$7.50
Prob 23.4% | Place: 63.0% | Value: 1.25x

Bet Tracked
Prob 22.4% | Place: 70.0% | Value: 0.71x

3. Galway Flyer (No.12) — $7.00 / $2.50 🏆 UNPLACED
Bet Tracked
Prob 19.9% | Place: 58.4% | Value: 1.56x
Why She's got the kind of profile that can run through the pack in Soft 5 if the tempo sets up.
Roughie: Becamo (No.4) — $14.50 / $2.80 🏆 3RD
Bet Tracked
Prob 6.9% | Place: 31.5% | Value: 1.12x
Why If the race breaks a touch, roughies like this can be the "I told you so" late runner.
Race type: Benchmark 78, 1000m
Map & tempo: Moderate Pace, 1000m chaos but with predictable pressure points
Punty read: Get Ready Lass (No.8) is the kind of sprinter who can keep her mind on the job, and the pace scenario should help her. King Of Pop (No.3) is the natural challenger with the kind of early zip that forces others into decisions. Bonded Affair (No.6) is the one who can keep plugging if the leaders get a bit too cozy behind the Soft 5.
Top 3 + Roughie ($11.50 pool)
1. Get Ready Lass (No.8) — $3.55 / $1.60 🏆 2ND
Bet $11.50 Win — ✗ Lost, net -$11.50
Prob 31.1% | Place: 46.1% | Value: 1.23x

Bet Tracked
Prob 12.2% | Place: 32.7% | Value: 1.42x
Why Big enough threat for the placings, but the value stack isn't perfect on the win line.
Roughie: Port Erin (No.10) — $13.50 / $2.85 🏆 4TH
Bet Tracked
Prob 10.3% | Place: 28.0% | Value: 1.48x
Why Needs the right gap and a bit of bunching, then he can nick a slice late.
Race type: Open, 1000m
Map & tempo: Hot Pace, leaders everywhere, and the straight decides who survives
Punty read: Lucky Pat (No.1) is the early engine, and this race is screaming for a horse who can use that pace without getting tired. Flaressence (No.11) and Pierantes (No.12) are the ones that can capitalise if the front runners start paying Soft 5 fees. Olivoni (No.6) looks like a threat if she can secure the right spot early and hold on for the finish.
Top 3 + Roughie ($5.50 pool)
1. Lucky Pat (No.1) — $5.00 / $1.90 🏆 2ND
Bet $5.50 Win — ✗ Lost, net -$5.50

Bet Tracked
Prob 13.4% | Place: 34.1% | Value: 1.16x

3. Olivoni (No.6) — $6.40 / $2.25 🏆 UNPLACED
Bet Tracked
Prob 11.2% | Place: 28.5% | Value: 0.81x
Why Still capable, but I'm not paying for her when the top value's sharper elsewhere.
Roughie: Flaressence (No.11) — $9.00 / $2.90 🏆 3RD
Bet Tracked
Prob 9.3% | Place: 24.4% | Value: 1.18x
Why Roughie win route is staying power through the sprint grind, she can land in the fight.
Race type: Class 6, 1600m
Map & tempo: Genuine Pace, but Soft 5 drags it out and changes the last turn
Punty read: Sir Winnie (No.9) is the one with the finish, and he's got the right kind of presence to keep running through the straight. Dusty Bay (No.6) is the late grinder threat, the sort who can take over when others fluff a gear. Bluepinot (No.4) is a danger if the race stays even and she gets a clear path to run on.
Top 3 + Roughie ($10.50 pool)
1. Sir Winnie (No.9) — $3.40 / $1.52 🏆 UNPLACED
Bet $10.50 Win — ✗ Lost, net -$10.50

3. Dusty Bay (No.6) — $6.50 / $2.05 🏆 WINNER
Bet Tracked
Prob 16.0% | Place: 46.1% | Value: 1.16x
Why Place chance is solid, and she's the exact type to keep running while the leaders tire.
Roughie: Rock Hard Love (No.5) — $12.00 / $3.20 🏆 UNPLACED
Bet Tracked
Prob 5.3% | Place: 24.1% | Value: 0.76x
Why Roughie path is simple, if the race goes a bit messy, he's the one with the price to pay.
Race type: Open, 2400m
Map & tempo: Slow Pace, stayers and stamina, the real last-turn test
Punty read: Amplify (No.3) and Chillaxing (No.6) are the key two, and this isn't a race for flukes, it's for horses that keep their mind and legs together. Felix The Scat (No.4) can be the one that sneaks into the finish if the run turns into a staying race where everyone has to dig. Soft 5 at 2400m is where good travellers get paid.
Top 3 + Roughie ($15.00 pool)
1. Amplify (No.3) — $3.30 / $1.55 🏆 3RD
Bet $15.00 Win — ✗ Lost, net -$15.00

Bet Tracked
Prob 14.6% | Place: 46.1% | Value: 0.95x

Roughie: Prince Levi (No.5) — $14.00 / $3.70 🏆 UNPLACED
Bet Tracked
Prob 4.2% | Place: 22.3% | Value: 0.79x
Why If everything goes right and the gaps appear late, he's the price swing.
Race type: Open, 1400m
Map & tempo: Genuine Pace, this one decides itself in the first half and the straight
Punty read: Esjay (No.1) has the kind of profile that thrives when the race is run with intent, then he can keep grinding. Fukubana (No.2) is the main threat and will take his shot early, while Fabulantes (No.9) is the value reminder that class always finds a lane if it's there to be had.
Top 3 + Roughie ($15.00 pool)

Bet Tracked
Prob 7.6% | Place: 31.5% | Value: 0.93x
Why Roughie wins when the front runners tire and he picks up the pieces in the run home.

Meeting Stats
Selections
Punty's Early Mail
Rightio Loose Units, Eagle Farm on a Soft 5 with the rail true, and the whole track feeling like it's been spongified, so it's all about who can keep a grip through the hit of the race, not who just looks good at the 200m mark.
G'day Legends, this is a meeting where the speed doesn't always sprint away, it just sticks around longer.* With a light tail up the straight, closers get a fair shot, but you still want runners who can either hold a position early, or at least move up without getting cooked in the mud. If you back like a hero and the race turns into a slog, you'll get justice served in the stewards enquiry queue.
My big spine today is three horses that map into the right part of the race, at prices that don't make you feel like you've been robbed by a bloke selling knock-off headphones. After that, it's race-by-race, Top 3 for the reliability and one roughie for the sweet release of chaos.
For the record, I'll happily eat a loss if the race shape explains it. What I won't do is blindfold sprinting into Soft 5 like it's a billiard table. We're betting with a plan, not vibes.
MEET SNAPSHOT
Track: Eagle Farm, 1000m to 2400m card
Rail: True
Official going: Soft 5 (expected to play speed with a late finishing edge)
Weather: Partly cloudy, 25°C, humidity 61%, wind 14km/h NE (watch for gusty moments, closers get a lifeline up the straight)
Early lane guess: On-pace is money, but keep an eye on the runners that can run past them late
Tempo profile: Slow to moderate early, then the Soft 5 brings the "keep going" factor into play
Jockeys to follow:
Daniel Moor: the lane finder, tends to land in the right spot at the right time
Angela Jones: rides like she's got receipts, often keeps the horse balanced into the straight
Ben E Thompson: when he's on a live one, he does not waste petrol
Stables to respect:
T J Gollan (12 runners): brings them fit and ready, and loves this kind of fair chase track form
C J Waller (6 runners): handles class and condition tweaks well, expects to run a race
Donna Stanbridge (4 runners): sneaky chance setters, especially when the market tightens
Punty's take:
Eagle Farm on Soft 5 is like hosting a barbeque where the sauce is thicker than usual. The leaders can still go, they just find the footing slower and the field stays in touch for longer. So your prime real estate is either the front end, or the spot one off it where you're not forced to go wide too early.
Races 1 and 3 are classic "shape decides" sprints. In Race 1, Venus Invicta has that "jump and go, and the rest cop it" feel, while Highwire Queen is the one that can turn that into a value sweat if she gets a kinder run than the drift says. Race 3 is built for one of those Dr Farthing types, just steady and strong, like a mate who always shows up with spare bandages.
Further back, the 1000m affairs (Race 6 and 7) are where your legs pay rent. Small differences in positioning, plus the Soft 5 grind, mean horses with the cleaner run and the right headspace usually look best at the end. That's why Get Ready Lass is on my spine, and why Lucky Pat is the kind of front-running ticket you take when the track gives him a lane.
What it means for you:
If you're betting early, go hard where the pace and barrier logic lines up, not where the odds are pretty. My aggressions are the Big 3 because they're drawn into the race story properly, and they're backed for a reason in the market.
From there, treat the roughies like a controlled explosion. Miss Kobi in Race 1 is a "if the speed collapses, she's there" play. In Race 8, Rock Hard Love is the one with the price to make your night feel interesting if the race breaks a different way than you expect.
Overall, keep your bankroll anchored on the Top 3 picks for each race. Then you can afford to be brave once per race, not five times per race. Soft 5 will punish greed harder than your mates after you mention a "sure thing".
